Describes an action that started in the past and
was interrupted by another action.
Example
He was writing an e-mail when the phone rang
She was preparing dinner when father arrived.

7.4.1 Punctuation
Full Stop
• used to mark the end of a sentence. For example
• The food is sweet.
• Milk is healthy.
Capital Letters
Used at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns. Example
• Alex is coming.
• Go to the shop and buy Juma a pen.
• I was born in Kisumu.

• Identify proper nouns such as names of people, places and
features like mountains and rivers from the text below.
