War is seen as disturbing, violent, depressing and stressful. Although some may
think of it as honorable or may even welcome their own death in a war because of
the glory that can come with it, others believe in the protest against the brutal acts of
war. Several writers such as Stephen Crane, Wilfred Owen, Tim O Brien, and Kevin
Powers are especially known to protest against warthrough their forms of writing. In
order to strengthen their arguments and persuade audiences to prevent acts of war,
they use techniques such as imagery, irony and structure to reveal the disturbing

Although structure is a complex tool to use when trying to support an argument, it
can serve as one of the most impactful tools that authors can use because it is sets
up their form of writing and presents the audience with a specific style. The style
that is created from the writer s structure is what affects the reader s mindset on the
topic of the writing. For example, if a writing s structure is set up like a list, then
the reader is most likely going to believe that the author is just trying to get to each
of his or her points without trying to make the reader feel any emotion and so their
writing is going to sound dull or bland. The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien
has a structure set up just like that type of list. His list consists of the necessities
that soldiers carried to war such as P 38 can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs,

UNIX is a creation out of Bell Labs in the 1960 s, in a project headed by Stephen
Bourne. The idea was to create an operating system whose kernel (core part) was as
tiny as possible. The main driving force, the small UNIX kernel, was that the
developers were doing their work on what were considered in that day to be tiny
computers. The severe limitation on RAM resulted in a small kernel with all the
utilities implemented as separate, stand alone programs. Each was itself tiny, and
designed to accept input from the preceding program as well as provide output to
succeeding programs. This process of using output from one program as input into
