1984 Analysis Essay
Crafting an essay on the analysis of "1984" is no easy task. George Orwell's dystopian novel is a
complex and thought-provoking work that delves into themes of totalitarianism, surveillance,
and the manipulation of truth. Writing an essay on this topic requires a deep understanding of
the novel, as well as the ability to critically analyze its various elements.
One of the challenges lies in navigating the intricate plot and dissecting the layers of symbolism
and allegory embedded in the narrative. Exploring the characters, such as Winston Smith and
Big Brother, demands a keen insight into their motivations, actions, and the broader socio-
political context they exist in.
Additionally, the essay should address Orwell's writing style, examining the use of language and
rhetorical devices to convey the novel's themes effectively. Analyzing the historical context in
which "1984" was written and its relevance to contemporary society adds another layer of
complexity to the task.
Moreover, constructing a thesis statement that encapsulates a unique perspective on the novel's
significance and impact requires careful consideration. Balancing a coherent argument with
relevant evidence from the text is crucial to presenting a compelling analysis.
In essence, writing a comprehensive essay on the analysis of "1984" demands not only literary
acumen but also critical thinking skills and the ability to synthesize information effectively. It is a
challenging endeavor that requires time, dedication, and a deep appreciation for the nuances of
Orwell's work.

Jerry Lewis Analysis
Citric of the critic a critical thought.
In both of the articles referring to Lewis neither make very good arguments in my
opinion, which is the point/goal of many critics: to gain (or at least appeal to) an
audience that has their point of views and to establish a reputation as a writer and a
critic which develops a following and somehow makes them qualified to tell their
readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take the stance of stereotyping
cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping is a
problem in the world, something which I feel is the point of many critics but does
not sit well with me. They take the time to watch a movie and offer their view point
on the film, dissecting and diagnosing the film in ... Show more content on

As a critic and writer the author loses his reader in the first paragraph making it
difficult to want to continue reading, American Fascination with the French
critical application of Lewis. (Selig 42) Who cares what other countries critics
view films produced in other countries? If the French like Lewis let them like
Lewis, it s their choice and opinion. American critics were worried about how the
French perceived and stereotyped American s, undermine the presentation of a
unified male subject and thus the conventional Hollywood representation of
Masculinity. (Selig 46) How the French view American males during the time is
not the fault of Lewis. His work was appealing to the French (and many American
movie goers) because he was making comedies to lighten the mood of the times.
From the information in both articles an argument for or against Lewis got lost
and became more about how American critics perceived the French interpretation
of Lewis as an auteur. That is the French were more impressed with Lewis because
of his style in presenting the topics within his films. American critics seemed to be
appalled that Lewis was the French s perception of what American male life was
like. However, Is it ok that Americans think of the French as all having berets,
wearing black and white striped shirts, riding bikes with baguettes in their basket?
This is an American stereotype vs the French who may think all American males are

power quality event that occurs due to different kind of short circuit fault and the
switching of heavy load. Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is one of the most
common custom power device to compensate the voltage sags Usually DVR is

approach to compensate voltage sag by using dynamic voltage restorer base on the d

True To The Game Essay
One week removed from the movie industry pulling a Colin Kapernick on movie
theaters and taking a knee for the Labor Day weekend. Hollywood is back with a
bang, and by bang I mean fart. The Hollywood Struggle Season, also known as fall,
continues and after a record low drop in box office sales, they continue to give you
no reason to leave your house. This week we have terrible Romantic comedy
starring Reese Witherspoon, a low budget dumpster fire called True to the Game
where the vision of black success is selling drugs and shooting people a bunch, then
you have a 9/11 movie starring Charlie Sheen...nothing more needs to be said. With
the 2017 box office coming off its worst summer in 25 years, Hollywood isn t exactly

If you are wondering how this stacks up to the original, the film hits all the bullet
point check marks of the original novel so you don t have to worry about the film
taking liberties here. Pennywise in this film is played straight, for the most part,
he doesn t have that campy charm that Tim Curry had years ago. When it comes to
the villain, the film takes a more modern horror approach with him. You can tell
that film was inspired by it scares but films like the Conjuring series but doesn t
pull off the scares quite as well. As for the kids in the film, they hit it out of the
park. Casting young teens in a role like this where they need to carry your film
could be a disaster, however, the cast here easily carry the weight. Smart, crass, and
sometimes extremely crude the cast here excel at what is needed for them to
relive those characters from the original. Now, this film only gives you the
perspective of the characters as kid, if you want the adult story of them coming
back to town and fighting a spider demon (possible spoilers, I dunno, the book
came out over 3 decades ago, get over it) then you have to wait for the sequel. It s
easy to forget the original IT was actually a miniseries and despite this film s 135
minute runtime, that part of the story isn t featured here. As entertaining as the cast is,
1990s Gay Culture Essay
Within the 1990s there is a persistent problem of Gay culture. Early in the 1990s it
was hard to come out and let the world know that you are gay. Within the early
1990s The Wedding Banquet (1993), although it approached the issue of Wei Tung
Gao trying to tell his parents that he is gay and still accepting as who he is.
Contrastingly within the late 1990s it becomes more acceptable to society by having
celebrities coming outlike Ellen Degeneres during her tv show Ellen. The two kinds
of media contrast as a form of whether or not to come out as a gayor not during a time
when AIDs was prominent and new. Within the early 1990s there is a rise in queer
culture that many people did not know for what it was. At first, the United States...

Within Ang Lee s The Wedding Banquet (1993) Wei Tung is pressured by his
parents to get married and have a child, but it becomes a problem because he is
gay. The narrative structure of the film was showing the conflicts and struggle to
satisfy old traditional parents and newer forms of beliefs. Within the scene
sequence of the parents arriving, but before that Simon, Wei Wei, and Wei Tung
had to redesign the house and make preparations in put on a façade for the
parents. Wei Tung s struggle to hide the cruel fact for his parents by coming out to
family of [heterosexuality] is important for lesbian and gay men s mental health and
couple relationships. (Green) Throughout the film the narrative plot and structure
revolves and we can slowly see the mental breakdown Wei Tung has with the
relationship with his partner Simon, Wei Wei and his parents. Historically this can
be understood as problematic as coming out and that it was hard to face others
especially one s own parents. This is shown that within the early 1990s it was hard to
face the public because of the treatment and dislike within the community. During the
opening sequences of the film we can see Simon taking out the trash and his friend
shows up pretending to disrespect and insult Simon by calling him a homo and
asking what he is doing
Romeo And Juliet Vs Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet go through a lot since meeting each other. They are considered
one of literature s most exciting couples because they do whatever they can to be
with each other. They also share a love that is one of the finest in all of history.
Romeo and Juliet are truly in love with each other because they value their time
together, they have constant thoughts about each other, and they are willing to
sacrifice what either of them has to be together. First of all, Romeo and Juliet truly
value their time that they have together. This is shown on page 404, line 33, where
Shakespeare states, O Romeo. Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? and on page
405 , line 66, where Shakespeare also states, With love s light wings did I o perch
these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And for what love can do that
dares love attempt. This shows that both, Romeo and Juliet, truly do value their time
together because of the way they longer for each other s presence. This also shows
how Juliet is desperate to spend time with Romeo because of how she questions
where Romeo is. And... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can first be seen on page 404, line 50, where Shakespeare puts it, Call me but
love, and I ll be new baptized; Henceforth I will never be Romeo. This shows how
Romeo is willing to sacrifice his own name just to be called Juliet s love. Also, this
shows that Romeo will do anything for Juliet as long as they are in love. Another
case where Romeo or Juliet makes a sacrifice for the other is on page 475, line 161,
where Shakespeare wrote, Go get thee hence, for I will not away. What s here? A
cup closed in my truelove s hand? . . . This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.
This clarifies how Juliet is unwilling to leave her true love, Romeo, and would rather
sacrifice her life to be with his than to live without him. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet
would be willing to do anything for each
Church s Stance On Homosexuality
As people continue to evolve, the world strives to accommodate to their ever
changing interest. The businesses and establishments that do adapt continue to be
every day components of human lives. However, well known establishments such as
the church have struggled to evolve with modern times, resulting in a decline in
members. Controversies such as the church s stance on homosexuality, abortion, and
the role of women have plagued the church for centuries, and continue to today. These
reasons among several others are the distinguishing factor in lack of millennial
interest in the church. According to the bible and those who directly follow its
teachings, homosexuality is most certainly a sin. The creation story from a... Show

So, that person requires the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ just like everybody
else, and if that person is a practicing homosexual, they are constantly living in sin,
constantly unworthy, and by the very nature of their life they are disobeying God
and preventing themselves from entering Heaven, except by way of God s mercy
and forgiveness. That is a whole lot of handle for someone who is born with a
natural affinity for the same sex: their very nature is eternally unclean and sinful
and if they continue to live the way the do they will never be able to achieve eternal
life with God. You think this concept may prevent some homosexuals from joining
the church? It is estimated that roughly 3.3% of today s US population identifies as
homosexual, with another 4% identifying as bisexual. That adds up to roughly 7% of
today s population in the United States who would never consider attending church
or becoming a believer in Jesus Christ because it is

Because they now diabetes will not just go away, they found another variety of
treatments for the pain. Analgesics will provide relief for the symptoms. In evidence
based research they found that the drug Gabapentin and sodium valproate works best
to relieve the pain.
The discussion of improving the quality of life of these patients was also a bid
discussion. Peripheral neuropathy can have a large impact on a person s day to
day activities, and disrupt sleep patterns. With this these patients are at risk for
injury, decrease mobility, and isolative behaviors (Sibbald, G. 2012). What I
learned most from this article was that there are many ways to treat the pain of this
disease, and we need to look into the best option for our patients. By doing this we
will have a greater chance of improving their quality of life.
The second research article covered a screening tool for Diabetics. This tool would
be a great way for nurses to do a quick 60 second screening to detect the high risk
diabetic foot and help prevent complications in the future (Oxman, M. 2011). The
tool is a paper that the patient and nurse to work through with yes or no questions
ranging from the history of any ulcers, to the nurse seeing any deformities (Oxman,
M. 2011). I think that this would be a great assessment tool for all diabetic patients
to start doing even before they start to have symptoms. This way if symptoms do
The Human Body System Is Not Immune For Pathological...
Our body system is not immune to pathological deficiencies. There exist numerous
identified pathologies which compromise the regular functioning of a heart, but all
heart related pathologies are narrowed to a single condition known as Acute
Coronary Syndrome (ACS). This is the term formally used in reference to the
different identified clinical entities threatening the cardiovascular system. ACS is the
result of the progressive or complete sudden blocking of the arteries or veins; this
prevents an appropriate bloodflow through the circulatory system, and as a
consequence, the body is unable to receive enough oxygen and nutrients to meet its
daily necessities.
This makes ACS a life threatening form of coronary heart disease (CHD) that ... Show

In a hospital setting, anticoagulants and antiplatelets are widely prescribed by
physicians because of their greater benefits in changing the physiological homeostasis
of the cardiovascular system. Anticoagulants and antiplatelets play a fundamental role
in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases as they are very effective at counteracting
the different symptoms cardiovascular diseases present.
Today, suggested treatments depend on patients health and type of ACS condition.
Such treatments range from invasive surgery for high risk patients to prescribed
medications for low risk patients. The medications vary in function and purpose. For
example, thrombosis is the fast forming of an abnormal blood clot in an artery or vein.
Therefore, it must be treated with a fast acting anticoagulant which could be Heparin
or Fondaparinux (Hyers, 2005). Atrial fibrillation is an abnormal heartbeat and is
frequently treated with another type of anticoagulant, Warfarin. Finally, unstable
angina is a chest discomfort caused by the lack of blood flow through the heart and in
most cases is treated with the most common antiplatelet medication, Aspirin.
Anticoagulants are given to prevent blood from clotting or prevent an existing clot
from more growing. In contrast, antiplatelets are only given to prevent blood from
clotting. Beside the advantages each treatment gives patients, none treatment
Heroism In 1984
When someone says protagonist, what does one usually think of? Generally, the
words good guy and hero come to mind first, but are those words used correctly? Is
the protagonist really a hero? In George Orwell s 1984 and Philip k. Dick s
Minority Report, two different protagonists who commit hero like acts are shown.
These acts on outside seem like they are benefiting the greater good, when in reality
they help almost no one. The side effects of their actions are avoided to make the
protagonists seem more worthy and stronger in the readers eyes, but it does nutmeat
that they do not still exist. At a glance, 1984 is a dystopian about a man named
Winston, the protagonist, who lives in a country called Oceania. It follows him

In 1984 the antagonist is known by the name O Brien and in The Minority Report his
name is Kaplan. The first instance where Winston s actions intervene with O Brien
s life is when he unknowingly gives O Brien more power through the crimes he
commits. Winston commits all sorts of thoughtcrime throughout the book but it is
not until the last part where he realizes that O Brien, someone who he thought was
going to help take Big Brother down, works for The Party. In part three O Brien
says, And there are disease, pain, death O Brien silenced him by a movement of
the hand. (Orwell 277). This quote tells readers the extent of O Brien s power,
specifically over Winston. It shows how his hidden figure type persona has
evolved into someone who is not afraid to show who he really is and is willing to
evict pain on to other people. All this is due to Winston rebellious acts against Big
Brother. All throughout the story. he breaks many of Big Brother s rules, reason
why O Brien catches Winston in the first place and has all the power he does right
now. In chapter nine Kaplan says, This is a great occasion for the Army... You ll be
glad to hear I m going to give the public a full account of the spurious change
brought against you (Dick ???). After Anderton tries to flee so he is not sent to the
joy camps, Kaplan is able to persuade the government that the whole precrime system
and the majority minority report aspect is a false way of determining if someone is
guilty. He wants the army to be back in control, specifically his team of sergeants that
retired a while back. Anderton trying to run away from the fate that the system writes
for him is the reason why Kaplan gains so much power in the first place. The
protagonists actions affect the antagonists, in the better. In addition to affecting the
antagonists for the better, the protagonists also cause the antagonists
Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift
Satire is defined as the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing,
denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.; a literary composition, in verse or prose,
in which human folly is held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule. Satire can be
humorous, but harsh. Jonathan Swift was a master of satire. He liked to tackle
very politically charged and sensitive subjects through satire. For many years,
Gulliver s Travels has been the embodiment of pure satirical genius. It has been the
standard and yardstick for almost all other satirical works. Gulliver s Travels begins
with the profile of the main character, Lemuel Gulliver. Gulliver begins as a surgeon,
but finds the profession ill fitting. He eventually becomes a sea captain and... Show

The final land Gulliver finds is the land of the Houyhnhnms. The Houyhnhnms are
wise, judicious, rational creature that look like horses. They save Gulliver from the
primitive, uncivilized Yahoos and give him shelter, food, and teach him the language.
Eventually, he is told he must leave the Houyhnhnms and return home. Once back in
England, Gulliver can no longer stand the sight or smell of humanity. He is disgusted
by even his wife and children. It is in part 4 that Swift s true disgust for humanity
comes out. His satire becomes truly harsh, critical, and merciless. Part 4 begins with
Gulliver s encounter with the Yahoos. The Yahoos are filthy, disgusting, cowardly,
ape like humanoids. One of the yahoos begins to attack Gulliver causing Gulliver to
retaliate in self defense by striking the Yahoo with the flat edge of his sword. The rest
of the Yahoos promptly begin throwing their excrement on Gulliver thus proving their
uncivilized nature. Luckily for Gulliver, the Yahoos are cowardly and are frightened
by a single Houyhnhnm. The Houyhnhnms are horse like creatures. They are
incredibly intelligent, curious, and rational. The Houyhnhnms symbolize all of the
good characteristics of humanity, while Yahoos represent man s true nature. While
Swift despises yahoos, he doesn t necessarily like the Houyhnhnms either. The
Houyhnhnms, while incredibly sensible, also lack emotions. Swift is saying that
society must be a balance of rationality and

This reduces back pressure, but can interfere with other auto parts. Let me provide
a nightmare example. On the [1970s Dodge Dart Swinger] with a 340 small block,
installing headers is difficult. Buying a complete kit designed by a Mopar
specialist for this model Dart doesn t make it easier. The first problem is you have
to lift the engine with a hoist to install them. Interference with the upper control
arms and the tie rods is yet another issue. After completing the operation, the
problems began to surface. To clear some suspension parts the headers had now
become the lowest part of the automobile. After going over a few speed bumps the
tubes that serviced the front cylinders were completely smashed closed. Instead of
increasing efficiency the end result was exactly the opposite. Reasons to Pass on
High performance Headers If reviewing the above information didn t talk you out of
installing aftermarket headers, I have a couple more issues to make clear. Classic
muscle car enthusiasts keep the automobile original to preserve the value. If you do
install aftermarket high performance parts label and save the original factory
Laws Of Voting And Its Effect On The Voting System
Measures To Establish Trust in Internet Voting
ABSTRACT
The short history of E voting is that it is a term used to define the act of voting by
means of electronic systems to cast and count votes. This article discusses about the
transparency and other measures to establish the trust in E voting. E voting can lead to
success if the voters trust in it and have full confidence on it. It also point out the
voting systems how the system is designed technically and functionally and by
which the voters can makes choices between the options and enforces rules to ensure
valid voting. It also address challenges of project which try to reach a high level of

Aggression
Introduction Prior to this study, no other research had studied the genetic and
environmental influences on reactive and proactive aggression. The purpose of this
study was to explain how much genes and (shared and non shared) environmental
factors each contribute to aggression, specifically proactive and reactive. Once a
positive correlation between the two types of aggression was determined, a sub
purpose was to find out if any correlation was due to another common factor, such as
physical aggression. And, which factors are unique to proactive aggression and
which are unique to reactive aggression. The article defines proactive aggression, or

However, there should also be non overlapping/non correlated factors contributing as
well, as reactive and proactive aggression have different predictors, associations and
temperamental and physiological correlates . With these new developments, the
researchers carried out a separate test, recalculating a correlation factoring in the
possible overlap of physical aggression.
Methods
Sample. The participants of this study were 6 year olds (N= 72.7 months) selected
from another current study, the Quebec Newborn Twinlongitudinal Study. They
initially enrolled 648 pairs of twins but the final sample size was 172 twins (55
monozygotic girls, 48 monozygotic boys, 33 dizygotic girls, and 36 dizygotic boys)
after excluding data from different sex twins and twins who were in the same class
(which might indicate exaggerated similarities between the twins if rated by the
same teacher). The children s reactive and proactive aggression levels were measured
using Dodge and Coie s (1987) assessment, using informant reporting. The informant

Infant Language Development Essay
The understanding of the world can be defined as the infant s notion of other s and
the surrounding. The question is whether infants are pre programmed with an initial
concept of the world. Many experiments conducted supported the idea that a new
born infant holds an understanding of the world. Cognitive development of a human
being begins during the prenatal period. Consequently, infants do have a
comprehension of the world. Infants are not mindless in fact they are born with the
ability to identify voices, faces, interact and perform metacognition. An infantis
preloaded with a system designed to socially develop completely. They are able to
discern their mother tongue since they have gotten a earful during the prenatal
period, similarly with their mothers voices. An experiment was performed to prove
the validity of this. Ninety one infants from French families were tested with English
and Japanese. The infants were on pacifiers that functioned to calculate the times
sucked. The French infants sucking rate when hearing English sentences were higher
than hearing Japanese sentences. Infants can identify a familiar language by listening
to the tempo the specific language. (Nazzi et al,. 1998)

The Souk Al-Manakh Stock Market Crash
Introduction
In August of 1982, an informal Kuwait stock market known as Souk al Manakh
collapsed (Rasmaroni, 2006). This happened when a female speculator presented a
post dated check for payment and it bounced ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). This relatively
small destabilising factor caused enormous losses, and the financial system was
nearly crippled with some $92 billion (Rasmaroni, 2006) from about 6,000 investors (
Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Is this event the only factor that caused the crash? And what
made the crash so huge? To reveal the answer we have to dig deeper into history.

With only about half of the Souk al Manakh companies even publishing annual
reports, most of these companies were little more than shell games with very little
in the way of assets, let alone earnings. Company fundamentals mattered very little,
however, to traders who regularly saw these same stocks rising 20 to 50 percent a
month. Eventually, the securities of fifty four real and fictitious off shore
companies were traded on the Souk al Manakh with no relation to company
performances or prospects. Most of these companies had been founded as recently as
1979 or 1980 ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.).
Adding fuel to the fire was the type of informal margin financing through the use of
post dated checks. They were accepted as a cash equivalent. This type of personal
credit didn t require a bank balance. ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.) The Kuwaiti culture
mandated that payment should be made, else you would have violated the tradition
of trust and caused a loss of face upon the entire family. This caused a big amount
of speculative capital letting the Kuwaiti stocks skyrocket. The shares increased by
an average of 63% in 1981 ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Not all transactions were made
using post dated checks. At least some of Kuwaiti merchants were willing to invest
money of the stock exchange. They

Renewable Energy Sources Of Energy
The worldwide demand of energy has been increasing considerably. Up to 2030, it
is supposed to be 60% higher than today (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). Currently, non
renewable energy sources, like coal and oil, are more commonly used, since they are
cheaper than renewable energies. In the European Union, 80% of the energy
consumption demands are covered by fossil sources (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). But, non
renewable energysources are running out and they are also very harmful for the
environment, since they generate greenhouse gases. So, it is very important to
discover more renewable ways to generate energy.
For a very long time, the only energy source that mankind had was the human
muscle. After that they discovered the fire and the animal domestication providing
them a source of heat and help from horses to plough their fields. The only other
accessible sources of energy that they could explore were wind and water. Sails
were used on ships allowing people to move across water, windmills and water
wheels were used to grind grains and pump water. At the end the 18th century
Europeans discovered the power of non renewable energy sources and started to use
fossil fuels, first coal then oil and natural gas. With these new energy sources, a lot of
new technologies were invented over the years until in 1700 and 1800 when the
industrial revolution occurred. These new technologies based in fossil fuels allowed
an exponential increase in the population and living standards. But, this increase in
Pygmies Research Paper
The two main races inhabiting Africa in early times were the Berbers of the
Mediterranean coastlands and the Negroes of equatorial Africa. The Berbers (and the
ancient Egyptians) were of Hamitic stock racially Caucasian, with European facial
characteristics. The Negroes included the small statured Pygmies. The pygmies, and a
third race the rather yellow skinned Bushmen may have been widely spread over
central and southern Africa until they were driven from the most fruitful lands by the
Negroes. The descendants of the Pygmies now inhabit the forests of central
Africa. Only small numbers of Bushmen now survive, mainly in the Kalahari desert
in the south.
Between the northern coastlands and equatorial Africa is the Sahara desert. Until ...

The paintings also show that music and dancing were important to these ancient
Africans as they are to the modern Negroes.
Between about 4000 and 2000 B.C, as the desert spread, the peoples of the Sahara
gradually emigrated to the north, east and south though some remained, learning to
live with little water: their descendants are the Berber Tuareg of the desert today
(whose men wear veils).
Those who went South settled in the western and central Sudan. (The term Sudan
relates to the wide strip of grassland stretching across Africa, south of the Sahara and
Egypt. The western Sudan is separated from the coast to the south by a belt of dense
forest.) In the Sudan the newcomers mixed with other Negro tribes to form the Bantu
speaking peoples, who gradually spread into central, eastern and southern
Africa.
In the eastern Sudan, south of Egypt, another civilisation arose, starting about 1000
B.C. that of the Kushites, probably a mixture of Hamitic and Negro stock. Further
east is Ethiopia. The Ethiopians were probably of Hamitic origin, mixed later with
Arabs from Arabia.
Historical times, that is when history is known with reasonable accuracy and some
detail, started on widely different dates in the different regions of Africa,
Discuss The Causes Of The Spanish American War
The economic depression of the 1890s had combined with the advocacy for
imperialism, as Senator Albert J. Beveridge stated, But today we are raising more
than we can consume. Today we are making more than we can use...Therefore we
must find new markets for our produce, new occupation for our capital, new work
for our labor. The theory to search for new land had become a reality when
opportunity presented itself in the form of Spanish conflicts. After the combination of
various causes such as intervention in Cuban affairs and the bombing of the USS
Maine, The United Statesunder the leadership of President WIlliam McKinley
declared war against the Spanish Empire. The Spanish American War resulted in

Their character is nothing more than a grave and specious insignificance. The
unethical reporting of yellow journalism had sparked controversy among the
American people, immorally bringing the nation to a pro war stance in order to

as the de Lome Letter, written by Spanish ambassador Enrique Dupoy de Lome in
1898. In his letter, de Lome had taunted President McKinley as weak and catering
to the rabble and, besides, a low politician. The publishing of the de Lome Letter
had sparked bitterness towards Spain. The yellow press had also sparked clamor in
the sensationalizing of the sinking of the USS Maine. In early 1898, President
McKinley had sent the Maine to Havana, Cuba to protect American interests from the
ongoing riots between Cubans and Spaniards. As the Maine was peacefully sitting in
the Havana harbor, on February 15, an explosion ripped through the battleship,
causing the ship s sinking and the death of 266 sailers. The reporting of the bombing

Lenin s Rule and Effect on USSR Essay
Lenin s Rule and Effect on USSR
It has been said, by Winston Churchill no less, that The Russian people s worst
misfortune was his birth; their next was his death. There is much truth in this
statement, because Churchill was able to see that as Lenin matured, so did his
policies, and these lead to improving conditions for the Russian people. As Lenin
matured as a leader, so did his policies; as Lenin died his policies died with him.
When Lenin first found himself with power over the Soviets, he was in a Civil war,
and from such a situation arose War Communism. Over time however, Lenin was
able to see the flaws of this policy and had the maturity to admit that he may have
made a mistake. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this respect, Lenin was showing signs of immaturity and inexperience even before
he had gained power, although he was still a very skilled revolutionary.
Despite this neglect of the peasant base, Lenin was able to take control of Russia
relatively easily. It was not long however, until divisions amongst the Russian
people became apparently, and Russia slipped into civil war. The civil war and the
policies that were spawned to combat it had severe political, social and economic
impacts on Russia. The main overriding policy of War Communism led to a severe
loss of political freedom. Lenin introduced into the world the whole concept of a
one party state(T.E.E. Revision Centre. The Russian Revolution), where there were
no elections held for political parties, but for representatives within the party
instead. Protests and uprisings were also eliminated by War Communism. Protestors
could be shot on site and nothing was thought of it (Wikipedia War Communism

ultimate power over the presiding political party, the Communist Party, and
controlled all of the major activities of Russia. This came as a severe blow to the
people, as the promise of land made to them

one ingredient: Sodium bicarbonate.
Baking soda has an intramolecular covalent bond between its hydrogen, carbon, and

the form of a crystal lattice. Generally, sodium bicarbonate is an ionic compound that
contains both ionic and covalent bonds as consists of sodium, a metal, a nonmetal,

Background History:
In 1791 Nicholas Leblanc, a french chemist created soda ash, or commonly referred
to as sodium bicarbonate. The quest for the discovery commenced in 1775 when
The French Academy of Sciences offered a prize to the person who could create
sodium bicarbonate through the use of salt. Leblanc created soda ash through a 2
step process. The first consisted of mixing sodium chloride and concentrated sulfuric
acid and heating the 2 at the temperature of approximately 850В°C. This process
evolves the hydrogen chloride gas, leaving the substance as solid sodium sulfate. In
the second step, the sodium sulfate is crushed and is mixed with charcoal and
limestone; it is then heated in a furnace again, producing the final product of soda
ash. Soda ash can be created through the Solvay process (revised by Ernest Solvay as
a more efficient method) or from trona ore (refining soda ash from a natural deposit).
Green River, Wyoming currently possess enough sodium bicarbonate to meet the
entire world s needs for thousands of years as there is as the lake holds
approximately 200 billion ton deposit of pure trona ore between layers of sandstone
and shale. The only known technology required for the chemical discovery of sodium
bicarbonate is the furnace; which is used to heat up the mixture of sodium chloride
and concentrated sulfuric acid.
Comfort Women In Ww2
World War II was a gruesome era filled with violence and death. Each country was in
a competition to find the deadliest weapons. War crimes were highly prevalent
throughout this time, such as the Holocaust, inhumane experimentations, and the
Japanese internment. One is often overlooked and barely spoken of: comfort women.
Comfort women were girls and women from Japanese territories coerce into sex
slavery for the Japanese military. The idea behind it was to prevent rape and to
reduce sexually transmitted diseases in the army; however, this came at the expense
of innocent women and girls. Women and girls were tricked or kidnapped to be
raped. They were forced into horrific living condition. While the living conditions
were horrible, the scars... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

five to six men would come... (7 8). Not only did they have to experience rape, but
also torture, starved, and forced to do labor.
For the comfort women, the hardest thing to do from their experience was to learn
to cope with the trauma if they had survived. According to the United Nations, Only
about 25 per cent of these women are said to have survived these daily abuses (39).
They have to live their lives anguished and ashamed for something they could not

developed mental disorders, like post traumatic stress disorder. Other experienced
infertility or had a physical disability. The worst part of the aftermath is the Japanese
government refusing to acknowledge this has ever occurred. De Brouwer, an author,
has written, Until 1992, the Japanese government has denied any responsibility for
the sexual slavery system during World War II... (8). It has been noted that it is rarely
mentioned in history books. Rebuffing atonement to the remaining comfort women,
this strains the relationship between the Japanese government, the surviving comfort
women and the South Korean

Even though the author provides a possible approach that can be used so both
feminist and cultural relativist would be able to work together. Personally I do not
think that it would be able to happen because both are so different. It is true that both
have several similarities in seeing how human right should be, however this
similarities have a different base or goals, which lead me to conclude that feminist
and cultural relativist is not a friend.
Feminist would protect the women no matter what happen, even though it means
that it could violate cultural value. Cultural relativist would be okay with harming a
female or woman as long as they would not violating cultural value. Then again, if
they start working together to reconstruct human rights, it will not be fair for
cultural relativist because the feminist defender is all over the world, they will
think it is okay to violating cultural law as long as women get their right. There is
not any which one is better than the other, it is just their idea is so different which
make me believe that there will not be any possibilities for these two to
Remember By Joy Harjo Summary
In the poem Remember by Joy Harjo, she argues that every group of life connects to
other groups of life and to achieve completeness within each other it is vital to
remember the details to the bigger picture. However, this statement suggests that the
conflict between remembering who you are and who brought you up, and how
intricately we are linked to one another and the natural environment. The speaker
seems to be a woman possibly a motherspeaking to her child, because of her tone. In
this poem the narrator reminds us to not only remember the major things that happen
to us but the small things as well, the speaker does this by using repetition. Although
the poem was written in 1951 it has a meaning that does not have a time limit. At
first the poem centralizes the sky you were born under then it gets broader by stating
that you are this universe(lines 1,21). The motivation the speaker has to speak out in
this moment is to state that there are greater things for us in this world and we must
pay attention to them.Throughout the poem the speaker uses repetition to explain
how we need to remember who brought us here. The word remember is used fifteen
times throughout the poem to show importance and focus, this is important to be
used in this poem because it makes you become aware that you need to be thankful
for everyone and the natural surroundings. Harjo wants us to remember everything
that has happened in our life that has gotten us where we are today and not to forget
the people and things that helped. Also the word earthis used in the poem four times
to show focus on the races throughout our world and the earth shows whose skin
you are there are many different races and these races show where you came from
(11). Even though we are all the same, we are all different in our own special ways
because of the people who brought us up. Lastly the words your and you are used
thirteen times to show how the poetry is directed specifically to yourself. This poem
makes it relate to everyone and shows who brought you to where you are today by
using the word you and your. Throughout the poem the narrator uses a motherly tone
to presents the idea of being able to remember all things that have brought us

Comparative Study of Company Law
Introduction Company law (also be referred to as the law of business associations)
can be described as the field of law concerned with the daily running of companies
as well as business organizations. It entails partnerships, corporations as well as
some of the associations that always deal in economic or charitable activity.
Corporations are the highly prominent kinds of companies, they have separate legal
personality and its investors have limited liability for whichever losses that occur in
the company that is governed by corporate law. Companies that are widely spread
with great monopoly are always listed publicly on the stock exchanges in all part of
the world. Depending on the form, single individuals who are referred to as sole
traders also have the opportunity to incorporate themselves and limit their ability so
that they have the chance of continuing with the business. These various forms of
companies rely on the particular law of their countries or the country of its location.
Company laws were originally derived from the common law of England though it
has significantly evolved in the 20th Century. Countries that practice common law
address different forms such as Limited Company, Corporation, Unlimited Company,
Limited Partnership, Limited Liability partnership, Partnership, Not for profit
Corporation and Sole Proprietorship. Most of the countries have forms of business

Systems Thinking
Why is systems thinking critical in developing solutions to sustainability challenges?
Systems thinking is a method of thinking that looks at the interconnectedness
between different elements rather than a linear cause and effect approach and sees
patterns of change rather than fixed snapshots . In essence it is a view on the whole
picture (Anderson, R 1994). Peter Senge and Andres Edwards expressed the
importance of system thinking in that it is necessary for understanding the dynamic
complexity of a situation , anticipating the unintended consequences of proposed
actions and implementing lasting solutions (Higgins, K 2014). Obesity is a wicked
problem we face today where systems thinking is necessary as it is a sustainability...

Perhaps the scarier fact however is that children are being affected too with 10%
of school aged children around the world being overweight, and a quarter of these
children being obese (Lobstein, T et al 2004). Heart disease, certain cancers, gall
bladder disease, osteoarthritis, endocrine disorders, hyperinsulinaemia, poor
glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnoea, social exclusion and
depression and other obesity related conditions have been found in young adult
populations, and their need for medical treatment may last for the rest of their life
(Lobstein, T et al 2004). With the obesity epidemic trend and its health
consequences on the rise (Walley, A et al 2006) there is a dire need for developing
better solutions and taking action. Contrary to belief, obesity has no clearly
defined solution. Many believe that it is a chosen lifestyle and that by just
exercising more and eating healthier the problem will be solved. This false mindset
is at the core of the problem as portrayed in the iceberg model and addresses just the
tip of the iceberg . There is in fact a bigger picture at play. Other characteristics on
an individual level like physiological and psychological factors are also a major
influence. Obesity is one of the most genetically predisposed traits (Walley, A et al
2006). Genetic studies have shown that heritability estimates for obesity are high
(typically gt;70%), which parallels with other polygenic diseases like

underprivileged nations. The first grant was issue in May, 2006; $1.2 million was
given to the University of Maryland to help evaluate and improve vaccines by
studying various diseases of young children in third world countries. The most recent
grant was $15 million to Columbia University s Earth Institute, whose goal is

increase access to safe water and promote better hygiene in Kenya through stimulating
an existing school based education program. Domestic efforts within the United

Plastic Revolutions, Inc.(PRI) is headquartered in Reidsville, North Carolina and
operates primarily on the east coast. The company recycles various grades and
forms of plastic scrap and post consumer plastic, but their focus is on High Density
Polyethylene(HPDE). After a basic Google search, we found a few local
competitors including Reily Recovery Systems, Inc., located in Haw River, North
Carolina and New Life Plastic Recycling, Inc., located in Burlington, North Carolina
and various other companies along the east coast. To confirm which companies were
main competitors, we contacted Ed Handy, General Manager at Plastic Revolutions,
Inc. He confirmed that KW Plastics, headquartered in Troy, Alabama and Envision
Plastics, also located in Reidsville, North Carolina, were their main competitors (E.
Handy, personal communication, October 14, 2016).
PRI s Strengths Compared to the Competition
Plastic Revolutions, Inc is one of only two companies in the region that can process
high molecular weight HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and produces extremely
clean HDPE flakes and pellets (PRI, Challenge Instructions).
Plastic Revolutions is also one of the only domestic recycling firms to hold the ISO
9001 Registration. The ISO 9001 is a standard based on quality management
principles including strong customer focus, attention of top management, and a
process of continual improvement ( ISO 9000 Quality Management, 2016). These
principles ensure

Tesla Automobile Battery
Introduction
Our idea for this research project was to investigate, in depth, the characteristics
behind the design, performance, and maintenance of the Tesla Motors automobile
battery. In opposition to the Tesla Powerwall battery, and the SpaceX Hyperloop
concept, also presented by Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of both
Tesla Motors and SpaceX, as well as chairman of Solar City, our analysis of the Tesla
Motors automobile battery is completely limited to the scope of the automobile in
particular, the Tesla Roadster, and Tesla Model S. Although Tesla Motors just
recently came out with the Model X sport utility vehicle (SUV), and has a more
economical Model 3 concept in the works, to be delivered two three years from
present day, most of the publicly available data was in relation to the Roadster and
Model S vehicles, hence our limitation to this scope. In particular, for the design of
the battery, we chose to investigate the construction of the battery cells, battery
module, and battery safety. In regards to the performance enabled by this battery, we
investigated the different battery packages available, in terms of energy capacity, and
compared their performance to a gasoline powered car through the quantity of MPGe
mile per gallon equivalent. Last, we delve into the maintenance and owner operation
of the Tesla Motors automobile battery comparing the

made me want to give this product a try for a project of my own. So far I ve been
dabbling with this product for a couple weeks now and haven t really seen where
there was something I wanted to add that I couldn t. It s still early on, but I may
stumble upon something as I really get into using the product more. I did a
comparison look at the other tools we had available and this one definitely stands
out as the non techy appearance that the other portray on their website. By that I
mean that on the other sites you ll see everything lined up and blocked as you would
on something like PC World or another tech related website. Basecamp uses drawings

bit more inviting this way and less intimidating. This product is very relevant to this

Comparing Rig Veda s Voluspa For The Germanic Religion
The best way to describe reading Voluspa followed by Rig Veda is deja vu. The
striking similarities in the details of the creation myth make it hard to believe that
these stories are not about the same religion. Who knows what influenced what, but
at the end of the day, it does not really matter. The simple fact that there are direct
correlations between the two sends up a blazing, red flag that these texts are based
on a religionthat is neither Germanic nor Hindu, but rather a common ancestor of
both. Because of the similarities between Voluspa and Rig Veda and their clear
differences from Genesis, we can use the Norse text to analyze the Germanic
religion. By not studying Voluspa for the Germanic religion, one would miss out on a

The Garden of Eden described throughout Christian creation myths is nowhere to
be found in Voluspa or Rig Veda indicating that these texts developed independently
of one another. However, the mere absence is not enough to prove there is no link.
When examining the tone surrounding the creation of life, the peaceful metaphors
of the Garden of Eden take no relation to the savage killings of primordial giants.
When the rotting limbs of Ymir in Voluspa are compared to the tree that is
pleasant to the sight and good for food in the Garden of Eden, it becomes obvious
that these texts stemmed from very different influences (Crawford 4, Coogan 14).
However, Dronke argues that the primordial killing of Ymir may also have been
conceived of as a sacrifice, and that it is important that they take Ymir s blood
coming from his neck, that is, from a sacrificial, rather than a fighting wound (112).
Dronke argues that this could relate to the Christian principle of sacrificing for others
thus making Voluspa have Christian influence. While I agree that the Ymir could be
seen as a sacrifice, this principle does not appear in the Christian creation myth as the
Garden of Eden simply mentions a Utopia where man can freely eat of every tree of
the garden (14). While other parts of Christianity do
Kudler Fine Foods Network
After reviewing the Kudler Fine Food network, a major network overhaul will
need to bring the network up to par with the latest technology. If Kudler Fine
Foods is not able to upgrade their systems then they will fall behind the
technological curve and will not be able to compete with other companies. Kudler
needs to do the upgrade not only to keep up with the advances with network
systems but needs to install the proper systems to increase profits. If Kudler does
not do constant upgrades then they will be forced to pay a larger amount for the
larger upgrades in the future. It is vital to install the proper systems that will have
the longevity and the capability for future network expansion without having to
spend money on unnecessary upgrades. Currently all the sites are still running 56K
modems, this technology is outdated. This is technology is hindering the
communication speed between each site. Having a high speed connection is
crucial to provide real time updates. These updates provide the profits made each
day and the inventory sold so that those items can be restocked in real time. These
modems will be used as redundant system and a new Wide Area Network (WAN)
will be created, each site will be setup with a Wireless Local Area Network
(WLAN). The WAN will connect all the WLANs together. This will boost the
network speed of the WAN and improve the way employees communicate. The
network will be able to support a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for telephone
Gay-Sex And Homosexuality
Homosexuality has been a subject of much worry for debaters everywhere throughout
the world. Despite the fact that the idea of homosexuality and the activities required
with it are not new and it has been honed everywhere throughout the world all
through different phases of our history, individuals still discover it a general thought
hard to acknowledge. Many individuals hate upon the thoughts and view gaypeople as
irregularities of nature. This can t be further from reality since it has been watched
that numerous types of different creatures, for example, certain types of reindeer and
dolphins, likewise display gay conduct. Subsequently, homosexualityis an extremely
normal thing and it ought not be limited as it is in many spots and gay relational
unions ought to be permitted. Despite the fact that many states in the United States
have totally sanctioned gay/lesbian relational unions and numerous others are
running comparative suits, there are as yet numerous who restrict them. In the event
that gay/lesbian relational unions were to be permitted in each state, it would realize
an extremely noteworthy change in our way of life and society.
At present, a considerable lot of the hetero individuals see homosexuality as
something that is threatening to their own particular sexuality. They are unreliable
about their own introduction and are frightened that homosexuality may
antagonistically influence them or their youngsters. This is on the grounds that
homosexuality isn t

The Importance Of An Epic Hero In Beowulf
An epic hero is a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great
achievements or affected by grand events. The epic hero, a cultural legend, embarks
on a quest in search of fame and glory, and encounters challenges throughout their
journey. No matter the adversity, the epic hero maintains bravery and courage,
never backing down. However, what the epic hero does not know is that the real
reason for a quest is always self knowledge (Foster 3). In the epic Beowulf,
Anonymous employs the affection of a king, bravery in battle, an eternal quest
and a lasting legacy to show Beowulf as an epic hero. Beowulf embodies the Anglo
Saxon archetype of an epic hero. A key moment in Beowulf, is when king Hrothgar
welcomes Beowulf to his kingdom and says But to table, Beowulf, a banquet in
your honor:/Let us toast your victories, and talk of the future (ll. 223 224). Here it
is shown that even a king is acknowledging Beowulf s bravery and is throwing him
a feast, one of the highest honors a king could bestow upon anyone, showing
Hrothgar s great admiration for Beowulf. During the feast when Unferth questions
Beowulf s honor, Beowulf refutes his claims and inspires king Hrothgar with a
speech: The Geats will show him courage, soon/He can test his strength in battle. And
when the sun/Comes up again, opening another/Bright day from the south, anyone in
Denmark will be able to enter Herot (ll. 335 338). Much like they typical Anglo
Saxon epic hero Anonymous clearly
I Am Owned By Three Dogs
As I like to say, I am owned by three dogs. Anybody who has dogs, knows people
who have dogs, has ever seen a dog, or even is aware that dogs exist, knows that
dogs like to bark. Some dogs naturally bark more than others, but I do believe I
have three of the barkiest dogs on this planet. (Is barkiest even a word? If not, it is
now, because that s what I have). My dogs like to bark whenever anybody comes
into the house, whether they are family or not. They bark when company goes out
the door. My dogs like to bark at neighbors walking down the sidewalk, and if those
neighbors are walking their dogs, they bark even louder! My dogs like to bark at
small critters in the yard, when the neighbor slams a car door shut, and when the
washing machine back in my laundry room brakes after the spin cycle. In effect, they
think they must bark all the time. All this barking dognoise becomes quite stressful.
When my poor husband comes home from work, all the dogs come to greet him,
and Twix (a beagle/sheltie cross) is the worst of all. Being part beagle, she is quite
vocal by nature. She gets so excited whenever family comes home that she goes on
a five minute barking spree. She was trained by her previous owner, my daughter in
law, to respond to a quiet command but it s usually ineffective. She knows she s
supposed to shut up, but she just can t control her excitement. The other two dogs
also understand the word quiet but they don t listen either. Martha is an anxious dog

Similes And Metaphors In Hariharan s The Thousand Faces

The one discuss about that how the time has been handled in the story. Whether it is
in analeptic, means back take or flashback or in proleptic means foretake. No author
can stick merely on analeptic or merely on proleptic technique of narration. Very often
authors contain references forward and then switches back to any particular detail to
relate it with any presentday happening. The Thousand Faces of Night is no
exception to it as the story goes on and on in the present of Devi and very next
moment it goes in flash back but not to cut the readers off from the main story line

It seems that the Night of the title symbolises the life of females because of their
sufferings and sacrifices, and Thousand Faces symbolises that sufferings of women
are not of one kind or type, but are numerous. Hariharan has put off the disguise
from these Thousand Faces through the description of different female characters
(mythical also) with their different types of sufferings (whether it be physical or
emotional or psychological). So, this title perfectly and suitably fits to the story line
of the novel. At every step, it is shown that the females take birth on this earth only
to do sacrifices for others especially for their male
Scala Logical Analysis
Scala conditionals follow the same pattern that is found in most other languages. It
supports if , else and else if statements. If statements are written using the format if
( condition ) { body } this statement can be followed with optional else if statements
and then optionally with a single else case at the end. Scala also provides a very
powerful feature for matching a variable by its value or type. Instead of using
numerous if statements you can use a single match statementOdersky (2016). One
common application for match statements is for evaluating an Option variable.
Options are variables that are optional or may not exist such as when you search a

Subprograms
Subprograms in Scala are included in the form of functions. Functions in Scala are
declared using the def keyword. If the function takes no parameters you can declare
it without any parentheses. If the function is only used inside a single function and
all the arguments are inside the scope of that function you can use a closure which
is a function within another function. Closures have access to all the variables in
the scope of the outer function and as such don t require as many parameters.
Variables also can be explicitly passed if the function declares the variables inside
parentheses after the name of the function. The final way that variables can be
passed to a function is implicitly. Implicit parameters will be automatically passed to
the function using the first implicit variable of the same type found in the scope of
the caller. In the example below all of the functions will print the number six however
they do so using the different different methods described above.
implicit val six: Int = 6
The level of freedom you have with regards to declaring functions, calling them and
passing arguments to them is largely due to Scala s goal of supporting both
functional and object oriented programming. However,
The Crusade For Reconstruction ( Jihad )
The organization was to take charge of the assets of the Pahlavi Foundation and to
use the proceeds to assist low income groups. The new foundation in time came to be
one of the largest conglomerates in the country, controlling hundreds of confiscated
and nationalized factories, trading firms, farms, and apartment and office buildings,
as well as two large newspaper chains. The Crusade for Reconstruction (Jihad),
established in June, recruited young people for construction of clinics, local roads,
schools, and similar facilities in villages and rural areas. The organization also grew
rapidly, assuming functions in rural areas that had previously been handled by the

Because Arab states, including Iraq, had in the past laid claim to Khuzestan as part of
the Arab homeland, the government was bound to regard an indigenous movement
among the Arabic speaking population with suspicion. The government also
suspected that scattered instances of sabotage in the oil fields were occurring with
Iraqi connivance. In May 1979, government forces responded to these disturbances by
firing on Arab demonstrators in Khorramshahr.
Several demonstrators were killed; others were shot on orders of the local
revolutionary court. The government subsequently quietly transferred the religious
leader of the Khuzestan Arabs, Ayatollah Mohammad Taher Shubayr al Khaqani, to
Qom, where he was kept under house arrest. These measures ended further protests.
The Kurdish uprising proved more deep rooted, serious, and durable. The Kurdish
leaders were disappointed that the Revolution had not brought them the local
autonomy they had long desired. Scattered fighting began in March 1979 between
government and Kurdish forces and continued after a brief cease fire; attempts at
negotiation proved abortive. One faction, led by Ahmad Muftizadeh, the Friday
prayer leader in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdish culture, was ready to accept the
limited concessions offered by the government.
The Kurdish Democratic Party, a more radical group issued demands that the
authorities in Tehran did not feel they could accept.
These included the enlargement of the
What Is The Psychological Criticism Of Black Swan
Psychoanalytical criticism intends to illustrate how literary works are often shaped
and constructed by an intricate system of natural human emotion in particular those
of desire. Lacan, who was heavily influenced by Sigmund Freud, re thought various
elements that were essential to Freudian theory and emerged with his own ideas
and terms to decipher psychiatric phenomena. One of these theories is that of the
imaginary, the symbolic, and the real. In this essay I will explore the relationship
between these realms in relation to the 2004 psychological thriller Black Swan
produced by Darren Aronofsky. Black Swan follows the production of the classical

In the rising plot the audience sees the mirror stage, evident throughout a large
portion of the film. Due to the absence of a father figure, Nina is occupied by her
mother Erica s desire, unable to enter into the symbolic order as she still resembles
a child in the mirror phase. It is not until Nina has the realization that she must
dispose of her virginal, pure ways to embody the black swan that we see the
symbolic and the imaginary orders intertwine. Furthermore Nina s descension into
the real order is not seen until the closing scenes of the film, as reaches jouissance.

both sides of the swan queen the innocent White Swan, and its evil twin the dark,
impulsive, and carnal Black Swan. The protagonist Nina captures the innocence of
the White Swan, however struggles to connect with the complex nature of the black
swan. Although she is cast, she cannot truly lose herself in the role and feels
tremendous pressure, going into a hysteria trying to become the perfect swan
The Importance Of Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization which provides affordable reproductive
care, currently receives government funding. Those in need of affordable health care
can go to PPFA for STI treatment, pap smears, and prevention of unintended
pregnancies. The problem arises in PPFA s prevention of unintended pregnancies,
particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the public finds in the
organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA s integrity and motives as
their controversial actions are exposed. Government funded healthcare should be
easily accessible for all people, but Planned Parenthood is not the organization for
this. Instead, the government should push its funds towards organizations whose
practices are not controversial and still provide quality health care.
Although Planned Parenthood provides other affordable health care services for
men, women, and children, many people find their service of abortion
controversial and seek to defund them specifically for the discontinuation of this
practice. Abortion was legalized under the Roe vs Wade case in 1973 and soon
after, PPFA made it one of their available services so they could provide maximum
reproductive health care for all women. Since its legalization, abortion has taken the
lives of nearly sixty million children. Out of the sixty million, PPFA is responsible
for 7.7 million (Number of Abortions). Defunding the organization would cause 1) an
increase in birth rates, 2) an increase in
I Attended The Studio Recital
I attended the Studio Recital: Voice on November 30th at 5pm in Souers Recital
Hall. This was a vocal recital of the students of Professor Mari Opatz Muni. This
concert featured vocal soloists Delaney Roberts, Karl Sissman, Kyra Klontz,
Coartney Freeland, Cameron Warland, Kayla Fields, and Nick Karayianopoulos, as
well as pianists Janice Murray, Kang Ning Yong, Clare Schuch, and Frank Wang. The
only instrument used in this concert was the piano, every song featured just the piano
and the singer. I was very familiar with the environment because we have class in
their every week, but this time the room felt very different. It felt much more
formal for the concert. The stage was up at the front with only the piano on it. The
lights dimmed and then the first solist walked out, this gave it a very professional
feeling. The voices sounded incredible in the recital hall, there was no microphone
needed. All of the performers were wearing very nice clothes and looked very
professional. It was a very intimate concert and there was about 30 people there I
would guess, I noticed that a lot of people were there to support their friends that
were singing.
Most of the music that was played was classical, it was more serious and
established. I believe that because it was just the pianist and the vocalist it gave it
that more serious classical tone. Most of the music was homophonic, the pianist
really went right along with the melody. The song choices also made the concert feel

  • 2. Jerry Lewis Analysis Citric of the critic a critical thought. In both of the articles referring to Lewis neither make very good arguments in my opinion, which is the point/goal of many critics: to gain (or at least appeal to) an audience that has their point of views and to establish a reputation as a writer and a critic which develops a following and somehow makes them qualified to tell their readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take the stance of stereotyping cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping is a problem in the world, something which I feel is the point of many critics but does not sit well with me. They take the time to watch a movie and offer their view point on the film, dissecting and diagnosing the film in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Selig 42) Who cares what other countries critics view films produced in other countries? If the French like Lewis let them like Lewis, it s their choice and opinion. American critics were worried about how the French perceived and stereotyped American s, undermine the presentation of a unified male subject and thus the conventional Hollywood representation of Masculinity. (Selig 46) How the French view American males during the time is not the fault of Lewis. His work was appealing to the French (and many American movie goers) because he was making comedies to lighten the mood of the times. From the information in both articles an argument for or against Lewis got lost and became more about how American critics perceived the French interpretation of Lewis as an auteur. That is the French were more impressed with Lewis because of his style in presenting the topics within his films. American critics seemed to be appalled that Lewis was the French s perception of what American male life was like. However, Is it ok that Americans think of the French as all having berets, wearing black and white striped shirts, riding bikes with baguettes in their basket? This is an American stereotype vs the French who may think all American males are funny and stupid acting and will do anything for love and

Karale1 Dept. of Electrical Engineering Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering Shegaon, Dist Buldhana, 444203 vijayskarale@gmail.com Saurabh S. Jadhao2 Asst. Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering Shegaon, Dist Buldhana, 444203 ssjadhao@gmail.com Abstract Voltage sag is the power quality event that occurs due to different kind of short circuit fault and the switching of heavy load. Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is one of the most common custom power device to compensate the voltage sags Usually DVR is installed between load feeder and source in the distribution system. In this paper approach to compensate voltage sag by using dynamic voltage restorer base on the d q 0 algorithm is discussed. Simulation is done in MATLAB software and results are obtained. Keywords Dynamic voltage restorer, voltage sag, sensitive load I.INTRODUCTION Power system make sure good quality of electrical power supply which means voltage and current wave form should be balance and sinusoidal. Moreover, the voltage level on the system should be within dependable limit, generally within 100+ 5% of their rated value if the voltage is more or less than this pre specified value, performance of equipments is sacrificed.[1]. In case of low voltages, picture on television starts rolling, the torque of induction motor reduces to the square of voltage and therefore

Hollywood is back with a bang, and by bang I mean fart. The Hollywood Struggle Season, also known as fall, continues and after a record low drop in box office sales, they continue to give you no reason to leave your house. This week we have terrible Romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, a low budget dumpster fire called True to the Game where the vision of black success is selling drugs and shooting people a bunch, then you have a 9/11 movie starring Charlie Sheen...nothing more needs to be said. With the 2017 box office coming off its worst summer in 25 years, Hollywood isn t exactly giving people reason to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are wondering how this stacks up to the original, the film hits all the bullet point check marks of the original novel so you don t have to worry about the film taking liberties here. Pennywise in this film is played straight, for the most part, he doesn t have that campy charm that Tim Curry had years ago. When it comes to the villain, the film takes a more modern horror approach with him. You can tell that film was inspired by it scares but films like the Conjuring series but doesn t pull off the scares quite as well. As for the kids in the film, they hit it out of the park. Casting young teens in a role like this where they need to carry your film could be a disaster, however, the cast here easily carry the weight. Smart, crass, and sometimes extremely crude the cast here excel at what is needed for them to relive those characters from the original. Now, this film only gives you the perspective of the characters as kid, if you want the adult story of them coming back to town and fighting a spider demon (possible spoilers, I dunno, the book came out over 3 decades ago, get over it) then you have to wait for the sequel. It s easy to forget the original IT was actually a miniseries and despite this film s 135 minute runtime, that part of the story isn t featured here. As entertaining as the cast is,

Contrastingly within the late 1990s it becomes more acceptable to society by having celebrities coming outlike Ellen Degeneres during her tv show Ellen. Historically this can be understood as problematic as coming out and that it was hard to face others especially one s own parents. This is shown that within the early 1990s it was hard to face the public because of the treatment and dislike within the community. During the opening sequences of the film we can see Simon taking out the trash and his friend shows up pretending to disrespect and insult Simon by calling him a homo and asking what he is doing
  • 6. Romeo And Juliet Vs Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet go through a lot since meeting each other. They are considered one of literature s most exciting couples because they do whatever they can to be with each other. They also share a love that is one of the finest in all of history. Romeo and Juliet are truly in love with each other because they value their time together, they have constant thoughts about each other, and they are willing to sacrifice what either of them has to be together. First of all, Romeo and Juliet truly value their time that they have together. This is shown on page 404, line 33, where Shakespeare states, O Romeo. Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? and on page 405 , line 66, where Shakespeare also states, With love s light wings did I o perch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And for what love can do that dares love attempt. Another case where Romeo or Juliet makes a sacrifice for the other is on page 475, line 161, where Shakespeare wrote, Go get thee hence, for I will not away. What s here? A cup closed in my truelove s hand? . . . This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die. This clarifies how Juliet is unwilling to leave her true love, Romeo, and would rather sacrifice her life to be with his than to live without him. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet would be willing to do anything for each

The businesses and establishments that do adapt continue to be every day components of human lives. However, well known establishments such as the church have struggled to evolve with modern times, resulting in a decline in members. Controversies such as the church s stance on homosexuality, abortion, and the role of women have plagued the church for centuries, and continue to today. That is a whole lot of handle for someone who is born with a natural affinity for the same sex: their very nature is eternally unclean and sinful and if they continue to live the way the do they will never be able to achieve eternal life with God. You think this concept may prevent some homosexuals from joining the church? It is estimated that roughly 3.3% of today s US population identifies as homosexual, with another 4% identifying as bisexual. That adds up to roughly 7% of today s population in the United States who would never consider attending church or becoming a believer in Jesus Christ because it is

The discussion of improving the quality of life of these patients was also a bid discussion. Peripheral neuropathy can have a large impact on a person s day to day activities, and disrupt sleep patterns. With this these patients are at risk for injury, decrease mobility, and isolative behaviors (Sibbald, G. 2012). What I learned most from this article was that there are many ways to treat the pain of this disease, and we need to look into the best option for our patients. By doing this we will have a greater chance of improving their quality of life. The second research article covered a screening tool for Diabetics. This tool would be a great way for nurses to do a quick 60 second screening to detect the high risk diabetic foot and help prevent complications in the future (Oxman, M. 2011). The tool is a paper that the patient and nurse to work through with yes or no questions ranging from the history of any ulcers, to the nurse seeing any deformities (Oxman, M. 2011). I think that this would be a great assessment tool for all diabetic patients to start doing even before they start to have symptoms. This way if symptoms do
  • 10. The Human Body System Is Not Immune For Pathological... Our body system is not immune to pathological deficiencies. There exist numerous identified pathologies which compromise the regular functioning of a heart, but all heart related pathologies are narrowed to a single condition known as Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). This is the term formally used in reference to the different identified clinical entities threatening the cardiovascular system. ACS is the result of the progressive or complete sudden blocking of the arteries or veins; this prevents an appropriate bloodflow through the circulatory system, and as a consequence, the body is unable to receive enough oxygen and nutrients to meet its daily necessities. This makes ACS a life threatening form of coronary heart disease (CHD) that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anticoagulants and antiplatelets play a fundamental role in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases as they are very effective at counteracting the different symptoms cardiovascular diseases present. Today, suggested treatments depend on patients health and type of ACS condition. Such treatments range from invasive surgery for high risk patients to prescribed medications for low risk patients. The medications vary in function and purpose. For example, thrombosis is the fast forming of an abnormal blood clot in an artery or vein. Therefore, it must be treated with a fast acting anticoagulant which could be Heparin or Fondaparinux (Hyers, 2005). Atrial fibrillation is an abnormal heartbeat and is frequently treated with another type of anticoagulant, Warfarin. Finally, unstable angina is a chest discomfort caused by the lack of blood flow through the heart and in most cases is treated with the most common antiplatelet medication, Aspirin. Anticoagulants are given to prevent blood from clotting or prevent an existing clot from more growing. In contrast, antiplatelets are only given to prevent blood from clotting. • 11. Heroism In 1984 When someone says protagonist, what does one usually think of? Generally, the words good guy and hero come to mind first, but are those words used correctly? Is the protagonist really a hero? In George Orwell s 1984 and Philip k. Dick s Minority Report, two different protagonists who commit hero like acts are shown. These acts on outside seem like they are benefiting the greater good, when in reality they help almost no one. The side effects of their actions are avoided to make the protagonists seem more worthy and stronger in the readers eyes, but it does nutmeat that they do not still exist. In 1984 the antagonist is known by the name O Brien and in The Minority Report his name is Kaplan. The first instance where Winston s actions intervene with O Brien s life is when he unknowingly gives O Brien more power through the crimes he commits. Winston commits all sorts of thoughtcrime throughout the book but it is not until the last part where he realizes that O Brien, someone who he thought was going to help take Big Brother down, works for The Party. In part three O Brien says, And there are disease, pain, death O Brien silenced him by a movement of the hand. (Orwell 277). This quote tells readers the extent of O Brien s power, specifically over Winston. It shows how his hidden figure type persona has evolved into someone who is not afraid to show who he really is and is willing to evict pain on to other people. All this is due to Winston rebellious acts against Big Brother. All throughout the story. he breaks many of Big Brother s rules, reason why O Brien catches Winston in the first place and has all the power he does right now. In chapter nine Kaplan says, This is a great occasion for the Army... You ll be glad to hear I m going to give the public a full account of the spurious change brought against you (Dick ???). After Anderton tries to flee so he is not sent to the joy camps, Kaplan is able to persuade the government that the whole precrime system and the majority minority report aspect is a false way of determining if someone is guilty. He wants the army to be back in control, specifically his team of sergeants that retired a while back. Anderton trying to run away from the fate that the system writes for him is the reason why Kaplan gains so much power in the first place. The protagonists actions affect the antagonists, in the better. In addition to affecting the antagonists for the better, the protagonists also cause the antagonists
  • 12. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift Satire is defined as the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.; a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly is held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule. Satire can be humorous, but harsh. Jonathan Swift was a master of satire. He liked to tackle very politically charged and sensitive subjects through satire. For many years, Gulliver s Travels has been the embodiment of pure satirical genius. It has been the standard and yardstick for almost all other satirical works. Once back in England, Gulliver can no longer stand the sight or smell of humanity. He is disgusted by even his wife and children. It is in part 4 that Swift s true disgust for humanity comes out. His satire becomes truly harsh, critical, and merciless. Part 4 begins with Gulliver s encounter with the Yahoos. The Yahoos are filthy, disgusting, cowardly, ape like humanoids. One of the yahoos begins to attack Gulliver causing Gulliver to retaliate in self defense by striking the Yahoo with the flat edge of his sword. The rest of the Yahoos promptly begin throwing their excrement on Gulliver thus proving their uncivilized nature. Luckily for Gulliver, the Yahoos are cowardly and are frightened by a single Houyhnhnm. The Houyhnhnms are horse like creatures. They are incredibly intelligent, curious, and rational. The Houyhnhnms symbolize all of the good characteristics of humanity, while Yahoos represent man s true nature. While Swift despises yahoos, he doesn t necessarily like the Houyhnhnms either. The Houyhnhnms, while incredibly sensible, also lack emotions. Swift is saying that society must be a balance of rationality and

After going over a few speed bumps the tubes that serviced the front cylinders were completely smashed closed. Instead of increasing efficiency the end result was exactly the opposite. Reasons to Pass on High performance Headers If reviewing the above information didn t talk you out of installing aftermarket headers, I have a couple more issues to make clear. Classic muscle car enthusiasts keep the automobile original to preserve the value. If you do install aftermarket high performance parts label and save the original factory

The question is whether infants are pre programmed with an initial concept of the world. Many experiments conducted supported the idea that a new born infant holds an understanding of the world. Cognitive development of a human being begins during the prenatal period. Consequently, infants do have a comprehension of the world. Infants are not mindless in fact they are born with the ability to identify voices, faces, interact and perform metacognition. An infantis preloaded with a system designed to socially develop completely. They are able to discern their mother tongue since they have gotten a earful during the prenatal period, similarly with their mothers voices. An experiment was performed to prove the validity of this. Ninety one infants from French families were tested with English and Japanese. The infants were on pacifiers that functioned to calculate the times sucked. The French infants sucking rate when hearing English sentences were higher than hearing Japanese sentences. Infants can identify a familiar language by listening to the tempo the specific language. (Nazzi et al,. 1998) Neonates are born with perceptual constancy. • 17. The Souk Al-Manakh Stock Market Crash Introduction In August of 1982, an informal Kuwait stock market known as Souk al Manakh collapsed (Rasmaroni, 2006). This happened when a female speculator presented a post dated check for payment and it bounced ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). This relatively small destabilising factor caused enormous losses, and the financial system was nearly crippled with some $92 billion (Rasmaroni, 2006) from about 6,000 investors ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Is this event the only factor that caused the crash? And what made the crash so huge? To reveal the answer we have to dig deeper into history. With only about half of the Souk al Manakh companies even publishing annual reports, most of these companies were little more than shell games with very little in the way of assets, let alone earnings. Company fundamentals mattered very little, however, to traders who regularly saw these same stocks rising 20 to 50 percent a month. Eventually, the securities of fifty four real and fictitious off shore companies were traded on the Souk al Manakh with no relation to company performances or prospects. Most of these companies had been founded as recently as 1979 or 1980 ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Adding fuel to the fire was the type of informal margin financing through the use of post dated checks. They were accepted as a cash equivalent. This type of personal credit didn t require a bank balance. ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.) The Kuwaiti culture mandated that payment should be made, else you would have violated the tradition of trust and caused a loss of face upon the entire family. This caused a big amount of speculative capital letting the Kuwaiti stocks skyrocket. The shares increased by an average of 63% in 1981 ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Not all transactions were made using post dated checks. At least some of Kuwaiti merchants were willing to invest money of the stock exchange. They

  • 19. Renewable Energy Sources Of Energy The worldwide demand of energy has been increasing considerably. Up to 2030, it is supposed to be 60% higher than today (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). Currently, non renewable energy sources, like coal and oil, are more commonly used, since they are cheaper than renewable energies. In the European Union, 80% of the energy consumption demands are covered by fossil sources (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). But, non renewable energysources are running out and they are also very harmful for the environment, since they generate greenhouse gases. So, it is very important to discover more renewable ways to generate energy. For a very long time, the only energy source that mankind had was the human muscle. After that they discovered the fire and the animal domestication providing them a source of heat and help from horses to plough their fields. The only other accessible sources of energy that they could explore were wind and water. Sails were used on ships allowing people to move across water, windmills and water wheels were used to grind grains and pump water. At the end the 18th century Europeans discovered the power of non renewable energy sources and started to use fossil fuels, first coal then oil and natural gas. With these new energy sources, a lot of new technologies were invented over the years until in 1700 and 1800 when the industrial revolution occurred. These new technologies based in fossil fuels allowed an exponential increase in the population and living standards. But, this increase in

The pygmies, and a third race the rather yellow skinned Bushmen may have been widely spread over central and southern Africa until they were driven from the most fruitful lands by the Negroes. Those who went South settled in the western and central Sudan. (The term Sudan relates to the wide strip of grassland stretching across Africa, south of the Sahara and Egypt. The western Sudan is separated from the coast to the south by a belt of dense forest.) In the Sudan the newcomers mixed with other Negro tribes to form the Bantu speaking peoples, who gradually spread into central, eastern and southern Africa. In the eastern Sudan, south of Egypt, another civilisation arose, starting about 1000 B.C. that of the Kushites, probably a mixture of Hamitic and Negro stock. Further east is Ethiopia. There is much truth in this statement, because Churchill was able to see that as Lenin matured, so did his policies, and these lead to improving conditions for the Russian people. As Lenin matured as a leader, so did his policies; as Lenin died his policies died with him. The civil war and the policies that were spawned to combat it had severe political, social and economic impacts on Russia. This came as a severe blow to the people, as the promise of land made to them

The quest for the discovery commenced in 1775 when The French Academy of Sciences offered a prize to the person who could create sodium bicarbonate through the use of salt. Leblanc created soda ash through a 2 step process. The first consisted of mixing sodium chloride and concentrated sulfuric acid and heating the 2 at the temperature of approximately 850В°C. This process evolves the hydrogen chloride gas, leaving the substance as solid sodium sulfate. In the second step, the sodium sulfate is crushed and is mixed with charcoal and limestone; it is then heated in a furnace again, producing the final product of soda ash. Soda ash can be created through the Solvay process (revised by Ernest Solvay as a more efficient method) or from trona ore (refining soda ash from a natural deposit). Green River, Wyoming currently possess enough sodium bicarbonate to meet the entire world s needs for thousands of years as there is as the lake holds approximately 200 billion ton deposit of pure trona ore between layers of sandstone and shale. Remember By Joy Harjo Summary In the poem Remember by Joy Harjo, she argues that every group of life connects to other groups of life and to achieve completeness within each other it is vital to remember the details to the bigger picture. However, this statement suggests that the conflict between remembering who you are and who brought you up, and how intricately we are linked to one another and the natural environment. The speaker seems to be a woman possibly a motherspeaking to her child, because of her tone. In this poem the narrator reminds us to not only remember the major things that happen to us but the small things as well, the speaker does this by using repetition. Although the poem was written in 1951 it has a meaning that does not have a time limit. At first the poem centralizes the sky you were born under then it gets broader by stating that you are this universe(lines 1,21). The motivation the speaker has to speak out in this moment is to state that there are greater things for us in this world and we must pay attention to them.Throughout the poem the speaker uses repetition to explain how we need to remember who brought us here. The word remember is used fifteen times throughout the poem to show importance and focus, this is important to be used in this poem because it makes you become aware that you need to be thankful for everyone and the natural surroundings. Harjo wants us to remember everything that has happened in our life that has gotten us where we are today and not to forget the people and things that helped. Also the word earthis used in the poem four times to show focus on the races throughout our world and the earth shows whose skin you are there are many different races and these races show where you came from (11). Even though we are all the same, we are all different in our own special ways because of the people who brought us up. Lastly the words your and you are used thirteen times to show how the poetry is directed specifically to yourself. This poem makes it relate to everyone and shows who brought you to where you are today by using the word you and your. Throughout the poem the narrator uses a motherly tone to presents the idea of being able to remember all things that have brought us

  • 36. Systems Thinking Why is systems thinking critical in developing solutions to sustainability challenges? Systems thinking is a method of thinking that looks at the interconnectedness between different elements rather than a linear cause and effect approach and sees patterns of change rather than fixed snapshots . In essence it is a view on the whole picture (Anderson, R 1994). Peter Senge and Andres Edwards expressed the importance of system thinking in that it is necessary for understanding the dynamic complexity of a situation , anticipating the unintended consequences of proposed actions and implementing lasting solutions (Higgins, K 2014). Obesity is a wicked problem we face today where systems thinking is necessary as it is a sustainability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the scarier fact however is that children are being affected too with 10% of school aged children around the world being overweight, and a quarter of these children being obese (Lobstein, T et al 2004). Heart disease, certain cancers, gall bladder disease, osteoarthritis, endocrine disorders, hyperinsulinaemia, poor glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnoea, social exclusion and depression and other obesity related conditions have been found in young adult populations, and their need for medical treatment may last for the rest of their life (Lobstein, T et al 2004). With the obesity epidemic trend and its health consequences on the rise (Walley, A et al 2006) there is a dire need for developing better solutions and taking action. Contrary to belief, obesity has no clearly defined solution. Many believe that it is a chosen lifestyle and that by just exercising more and eating healthier the problem will be solved. This false mindset is at the core of the problem as portrayed in the iceberg model and addresses just the tip of the iceberg . There is in fact a bigger picture at play. Other characteristics on an individual level like physiological and psychological factors are also a major influence. Obesity is one of the most genetically predisposed traits (Walley, A et al 2006). Genetic studies have shown that heritability estimates for obesity are high (typically gt;70%), which parallels with other polygenic diseases like

EE 451, Electric Vehicles 12/10/2015 Tesla Automobile Battery Introduction Our idea for this research project was to investigate, in depth, the characteristics behind the design, performance, and maintenance of the Tesla Motors automobile battery. In opposition to the Tesla Powerwall battery, and the SpaceX Hyperloop concept, also presented by Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of both Tesla Motors and SpaceX, as well as chairman of Solar City, our analysis of the Tesla Motors automobile battery is completely limited to the scope of the automobile in particular, the Tesla Roadster, and Tesla Model S. Although Tesla Motors just recently came out with the Model X sport utility vehicle (SUV), and has a more economical Model 3 concept in the works, to be delivered two three years from present day, most of the publicly available data was in relation to the Roadster and Model S vehicles, hence our limitation to this scope. In particular, for the design of the battery, we chose to investigate the construction of the battery cells, battery module, and battery safety. In regards to the performance enabled by this battery, we investigated the different battery packages available, in terms of energy capacity, and compared their performance to a gasoline powered car through the quantity of MPGe mile per gallon equivalent. Last, we delve into the maintenance and owner operation of the Tesla Motors automobile battery comparing the

The striking similarities in the details of the creation myth make it hard to believe that these stories are not about the same religion. Who knows what influenced what, but at the end of the day, it does not really matter. The simple fact that there are direct correlations between the two sends up a blazing, red flag that these texts are based on a religionthat is neither Germanic nor Hindu, but rather a common ancestor of both. Because of the similarities between Voluspa and Rig Veda and their clear differences from Genesis, we can use the Norse text to analyze the Germanic religion. The Garden of Eden described throughout Christian creation myths is nowhere to be found in Voluspa or Rig Veda indicating that these texts developed independently of one another. However, the mere absence is not enough to prove there is no link. When examining the tone surrounding the creation of life, the peaceful metaphors of the Garden of Eden take no relation to the savage killings of primordial giants. When the rotting limbs of Ymir in Voluspa are compared to the tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food in the Garden of Eden, it becomes obvious that these texts stemmed from very different influences (Crawford 4, Coogan 14). However, Dronke argues that the primordial killing of Ymir may also have been conceived of as a sacrifice, and that it is important that they take Ymir s blood coming from his neck, that is, from a sacrificial, rather than a fighting wound (112). Dronke argues that this could relate to the Christian principle of sacrificing for others thus making Voluspa have Christian influence. While I agree that the Ymir could be seen as a sacrifice, this principle does not appear in the Christian creation myth as the Garden of Eden simply mentions a Utopia where man can freely eat of every tree of the garden (14). While other parts of Christianity do

The epic hero, a cultural legend, embarks on a quest in search of fame and glory, and encounters challenges throughout their journey. No matter the adversity, the epic hero maintains bravery and courage, never backing down. However, what the epic hero does not know is that the real reason for a quest is always self knowledge (Foster 3). In the epic Beowulf, Anonymous employs the affection of a king, bravery in battle, an eternal quest and a lasting legacy to show Beowulf as an epic hero. Beowulf embodies the Anglo Saxon archetype of an epic hero. A key moment in Beowulf, is when king Hrothgar welcomes Beowulf to his kingdom and says But to table, Beowulf, a banquet in your honor:/Let us toast your victories, and talk of the future (ll. 223 224). Here it is shown that even a king is acknowledging Beowulf s bravery and is throwing him a feast, one of the highest honors a king could bestow upon anyone, showing Hrothgar s great admiration for Beowulf. During the feast when Unferth questions Beowulf s honor, Beowulf refutes his claims and inspires king Hrothgar with a speech: The Geats will show him courage, soon/He can test his strength in battle. And when the sun/Comes up again, opening another/Bright day from the south, anyone in Denmark will be able to enter Herot (ll. 335 338). Much like they typical Anglo Saxon epic hero Anonymous clearly

Anybody who has dogs, knows people who have dogs, has ever seen a dog, or even is aware that dogs exist, knows that dogs like to bark. Some dogs naturally bark more than others, but I do believe I have three of the barkiest dogs on this planet. (Is barkiest even a word? If not, it is now, because that s what I have). My dogs like to bark whenever anybody comes into the house, whether they are family or not. They bark when company goes out the door. My dogs like to bark at neighbors walking down the sidewalk, and if those neighbors are walking their dogs, they bark even louder! My dogs like to bark at small critters in the yard, when the neighbor slams a car door shut, and when the washing machine back in my laundry room brakes after the spin cycle. In effect, they think they must bark all the time. All this barking dognoise becomes quite stressful. When my poor husband comes home from work, all the dogs come to greet him, and Twix (a beagle/sheltie cross) is the worst of all. Being part beagle, she is quite vocal by nature. She gets so excited whenever family comes home that she goes on a five minute barking spree. She was trained by her previous owner, my daughter in law, to respond to a quiet command but it s usually ineffective. She knows she s supposed to shut up, but she just can t control her excitement. The other two dogs also understand the word quiet but they don t listen either. Martha is an anxious dog by

If statements are written using the format if ( condition ) { body } this statement can be followed with optional else if statements and then optionally with a single else case at the end. Scala also provides a very powerful feature for matching a variable by its value or type. Instead of using numerous if statements you can use a single match statementOdersky (2016). Closures have access to all the variables in the scope of the outer function and as such don t require as many parameters. Variables also can be explicitly passed if the function declares the variables inside parentheses after the name of the function. The final way that variables can be passed to a function is implicitly. Those in need of affordable health care can go to PPFA for STI treatment, pap smears, and prevention of unintended pregnancies. The problem arises in PPFA s prevention of unintended pregnancies, particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the public finds in the organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA s integrity and motives as their controversial actions are exposed. Government funded healthcare should be easily accessible for all people, but Planned Parenthood is not the organization for this. Instead, the government should push its funds towards organizations whose practices are not controversial and still provide quality health care. Although Planned Parenthood provides other affordable health care services for men, women, and children, many people find their service of abortion controversial and seek to defund them specifically for the discontinuation of this practice. Abortion was legalized under the Roe vs Wade case in 1973 and soon after, PPFA made it one of their available services so they could provide maximum reproductive health care for all women. Since its legalization, abortion has taken the lives of nearly sixty million children. Out of the sixty million, PPFA is responsible for 7.7 million (Number of Abortions). The only instrument used in this concert was the piano, every song featured just the piano and the singer. I was very familiar with the environment because we have class in their every week, but this time the room felt very different. It felt much more formal for the concert. The stage was up at the front with only the piano on it. The lights dimmed and then the first solist walked out, this gave it a very professional feeling. The voices sounded incredible in the recital hall, there was no microphone needed. All of the performers were wearing very nice clothes and looked very professional. It was a very intimate concert and there was about 30 people there I would guess, I noticed that a lot of people were there to support their friends that were singing. Most of the music that was played was classical, it was more serious and established. I believe that because it was just the pianist and the vocalist it gave it that more serious classical tone. Most of the music was homophonic, the pianist really went right along with the melody. The song choices also made the concert feel very
