Should The Government Surveillance Of Internet Privacy
The internet is a vast global interconnected network enabling numerous people to access countless
information and communicate with others miles away. When browsing the web nowadays, however,
many forget what’s really happening behind the scenes. Internet cookies and complex algorithms
are being downloaded behind your back allowing big brand companies and even the federal
government to track what the people are doing. This is a major violation to our right to privacy which
is implied in the Constitution. On the other hand, it’s understandable for the government to have a
substantial amount of surveillance of the internet to monitor terrorists and people seeking to cause
harm, but the extent the US government controls over the web is absurdly large and unnecessary.
Overall, surveillance and order must be maintained throughout the internet to deter fanatics intending
to cause harm, but the United States government have increased their range so wide it has ... Show

Montresor Vs Fortunato
Edgar Allan Poe, the author of The Cask of Amontillado, helps us understand Montresor and
Fortunato by showing us their character traits. Both men have different attributes that help readers
distinguish their personalities. Although Montresor and Fortunato s traits are polar opposites, their
qualities make the story more interesting for the readers. While Montresor was carrying out his
revenge, Fortunato s traits are shown as being spiteful, gullible, and oblivious. At the beginning of The
Cask of Amontillado, Montresor is portrayed as a vengeful enemy towards Fortunato. Obviously,
Fortunato must ve insulted him in some way to result in his act of revenge. From the quote, The

Essay on Costing Procedure of Flooring Contrator
You can t take it anymore. If you have to look at those scratches in the living room floor, the foot
traffic stains down the hallway, the Kool aid stains under the dining room table, or the chipped tile in
the kitchen one more time, you might go off the edge and wind up in the looney bin. You are tired of
going to a friend s home and secretly envying their perfect looking floors. Gone are the days of
flipping through magazines and drooling over the pictures of nicely decorated rooms with flooring
that looks amazing. So you ask your friend what company did their floor and how much it cost, not to
be nosey, but to get an idea. After perusing the flooring aisle of your local home improvement store
and deciding on the type you want to use, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labor per square foot is the given rate per square foot of floor area. Initial Preparatory Work involves
all actions required to be completed before the contractor can begin working on the floor. There are
three parts to this section. Initially, all the furniture and fixtures (toilet, sinks not attached to walls)
need to be removed. Depending on the quantity/size of furniture/fixtures that need to be removed,
contractors will typically charge between $15 and $50 per hour. Customers can cut out this cost if they
agree to have the items removed prior to the contractor arriving. However, if it is agreed upon and the
items are not removed, the contractor will usually charge 150% of the normal rate, because this will
add additional time to the job, causing him to possibly run behind schedule for another job, and he
schedules jobs based on time estimates. The next part is the removal and disposal of the existing floor.
The price for this can range from $25 to $75 per hour, based on the type of flooring being removed.
Carpet and vinyl are easy to remove, thus would be on the low end. Tile is more difficult because
mortar is used to install it and all of that has to be broken up and removed. Again, the customer can
save during this phase if they do the removal themselves, with the same penalty if not removed prior
to the contractor arrival. The final part of this phase is repairing the subfloor. Costs for this repair vary
greatly on what needs to be repaired, and are usually

Humanitarian Crisis Research Paper
When America claimed its independence from Great Britain in 1776, its founding fathers couldn t
have foreseen that their country would become involved in as many foreign conflicts as have occurred
in the past century. As America became a world power at the turn of the twentieth century due to its
military capacity and economic capabilities, the nation became involved in humanitarian crises which
even involved mass genocide. The U.S. provided aid in these international crises, sometimes even to
the point of supplying military force. Although highly controversial and continually debated, America
s position as a world power will always bring with it the responsibility to aid in humanitarian crises
when it is identified that foreign citizens are denied basic, recognized human rights.
The United States became involved in a major humanitarian crisis in 1934, when Nazi Germany began
openly discriminating against its Jewish citizens. As Germany invaded many of its neighboring
countries, it also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which has displaced 12 million people since 2011. Due to lack of leadership in the Middle East, Assad

injuries and deaths. It was only after the U.S. allocated military forces and provided 4.5 billion dollars
in financial assistance to Syrian refugees that the international community became involved. European
nations such as France and New Zealand are continuing to accept 24,850 Syrian refugees in the next
three years. The U.S. will alone accept 10,000 refugees next year. Overall, without America s actions

The American Dream For A Long Time Essay
House, a shelter for people, which is one of a basic requirement for human survival in today s world.
According to Andriotis (2014) and Shlay (2006), homeownership is regarded as an aspect of the
American dream for a long time (p.1) (p.527). The American dream, a pursuit that a large number of
US citizens seek, require individuals work hard to achieve it. In other words, owing a property has
long been a gateway to the American dream. Individuals have possession of the house if they have
enough money to afford the payment on a home and be willing to purchase it. Otherwise, people need
to rent a house to guarantee that they have a relatively fixed shelter. However, there are the limited
rights for the tenants, and thus they have to depend on the decision of owners, whereas the landlords
have the power to make a decision on the property since they have the housing ownership. Hence,
whether to buy or rent have become a fundamental problem that plagues the individuals. Elsinga and
Hoekstra (2005) point that the homeownership not only in favor of personal, but also benefit the
community (p.403). Therefore, buying a house is over than renting since it brings tremendous benefits
to individuals. Specifically, purchasing a property is a desirable option that generates tax benefit, build
self confidence for owners, and profits the construction of the community harmony rather than renting
a house. While it is true that owning a house generates numbers of undeniable benefits,

The One With The Male Nanny
After watching the Friends episode, The One with the Male Nanny, I began to realize why society is
so unaccepting of certain sexualities and set on their opinion of acceptable gender roles. In this
episode, Rachel and Ross are looking to hire a female nanny to care for their newborn baby.
Throughout the episode they go through trial and error to find the perfect female nanny to nurture and
care for their precious child. Their next candidate Sandy knocks on the door, and Rachel and Ross are
both in shock that a male is applying to nanny their child. Ross and Rachel stand at the door visibly
shocked and concerned, because they thought Sandy was a female. They slowly welcome Sandy into
their home and begin the interview process, meanwhile Ross ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Claude Of Claude Debussy s Theory Of Russian Composers Of...
Claude Debussy Claude Debussy also known as Achille Claude Debussy has been one of the most
influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Debussy was born into a
middle class family being the son of a shopkeeper and a seamstress and the oldest of his five siblings.
Debussy began his career at the Paris Conservatory at the very young age of 11. During his studies, he
met the wealthy Nadezhda von Meck, a patroness of Tchaikovsky, who employed him to be the music
teacher to her son Nikolai von Meck. Through this Nadezhda von Meck exposed the growing Debussy
to the works of Russian composers, such as Borodin and Mussorgsky, who continue to be significant
influences on his compositions. In 1884, when Debussy was 22 years old, he entered his cantata L
Enfant prodigy also known as The Prodigal Child in the Prix de Rome, a worldwide competition for
composers. Debussy took home the top prize, which allowed him to study for up to three years in the
Italian capital studying at the Villa Medici. Unfortunately, he returned to Paris after only two years.
While he was in Rome, he studied the music of German composer Richard Wagner. Wagner s
influence on Debussy was profound and lasting, but despite this, Debussy shied away from the
ostentation of Wagner s opera in his works. In 1892 at the age mid age of 30, Debussy began to
compose for operas with the start of Pelléas et Mélisande, a play written by Met Erik Satie, a pianist
from Montmartre, which

Marijuana during the 70 s was viewed much differently then it is today. Twenty Seven states approve

debatable question going on right now in this question about Marijuana is: Whether or Marijuana

This debate on Marijuana is so important because of its immense usage around the world as the

The FDA has a specific process to see how the joint medical and scientific communities determine
whether drugs can be considered safe and effective as medicine, and Marijuana hasn t been approved

the medical marijuana angle is just a side story to get the whole drug legalized for recreation use. The
countries, such as Amsterdam, in which Marijuana is legal, have no produced evidence that Marijuana

The opponents of Marijuana point out that if the FDA hasn t approved of the drug, then it must be to
dangerous to use. They believe that Marinol, a synthetic form of THC, can be used instead of the
whole Cannabis plant, and Marijuana to not be obsolete. Their evidence shows the smoking five joints

the most famous points used as a defense against Marijuana by prohibitionists is that Marijuana is a

The Contribution of American Women to the Abolitionist...
The Abolitionist Movement changed the course of the nation. In addition to the eventual emancipation
of slaves, it transformed the role of women in American History. During the Abolitionist Movement, it
was thought that the duties of women were confined within the home (Boylan 363). While most
women of the time agreed with this statement, there were many who did not. This change of attitude
started during the Great Awakening (Baker 623). Eliza Wilkinson wrote, I won t have it thought that
because we are the weaker sex as to bodily strength we are capable of nothing more than domestic
concerns (Goldfield, et al. 171). During this time, society was against women leaving the home. Many

A racially integrated group of women formed the Boston Female Anti Slavery Society in October of
1833. This was uncommon for the time period. The society was made up of three different social
classes of women, which caused conflict of interest within the society. The different classes were
white, upper class women, white, middle class women, and elite black women. The upper class though
that the middle class were restricting the ideas of the society, while the middle class thought the
aggressive techniques of the upper class women was atrocious (Hansen 46). Upper class white women
used men s tactics like political protest and public action to spread their cause, while middle class
women used church based techniques, while focusing towards the needs of women and children
(Hansen 63).The elite black women were less interested in policy issues and instead advocated
programs that would provide direct care to the black community (Hansen 46). Slavery was thought of
as a sin by many people, causing many women to leave the church over this disagreement (Petrulionis
389). Many of these women in Boston formed the Anti Slavery Society, which became one of the
nation s biggest and most influential. To wash away the sin of slavery, it was customary for a minister

Specifically, Amanda was verbally presented with two words and she had to tell the examiner how

High School vs College
The transition from high school to college is not only an exciting and challenging time, but also a
great milestone in one s life. There are several differences between the lives of high school and college
students. Some individuals will be able to jump right in and adjust to this change seamlessly, while
others may take years to adapt, or never even grab hold of the whole college experience at all. High
school and College are both educational grounds for a student to grow and enrich their lives with
knowledge. Both are like puzzle pieces: on one side they fit together, but on the other side they are

People can really see the distinctive differences these two phase in life; however, there are also some
similarities you will carry on during your transition into college lives. Friends from your high school
will always be there for you especially when you keep a constant connection between them. Studying
habits such as cramming for test or homework, creating during a test or copying another student s
homework, breaking the rules and disciplinary sanctions are still evident in both high school and
college.
We all know that everyone goes through high school and college. We can compare that college is
much more challenging and complex than high school. This is a higher level of learning, thus,
requiring more time, effort as well as devotion to studies. Even though college is very tiring at times, I
still believe that college is much more enjoyable and exciting. To have that kind of freedom in your

Nuclear War And The Cold War Essay
The vast majority of the American public know the Cold War as a period of political and state tension
between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This era is often associated with the advancement of scientific
research and arms build up as a result of the competition between these world superpowers, especially
through the development of the nuclear bomb. Aside from the actual politics of the Cold War, Joseph
Masco, professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago, argues in his novel, The Theater of
Operations, that the Cold War provided a psychological platform for the U.S. security state to
transform everyday American s perceptions of mass death. Through multiple government operations
during the Cold War, the idea of nuclear disaster was presented as an undeniable threat to the
American people, and instilled to a certain extent a sense of nuclear fear. Masco believes that the
current state of mind in the counterterror state is merely just a continuation of the effects of the Cold
War s psychological conditioning. Additionally, Masco argues that the nuclear projects during the
Cold War helped initiate the advancement of earth science research. He feels that through the
increased knowledge in these fields, the Cold War nuclear projects were linked to environmental
concerns. Through these examples, Masco demonstrates his view on how the Cold War has influenced
the U.S. cultural understanding of nuclear threats. Masco argues that the psychological efforts during

Since the open ended questions in the WTAP News questionnaire can have an infinite number of
answer, identifying similarities is the goal. Coding provides identification for specific themes in the
data. Individual responses will be listed then consolidated into exclusive numeric codes for each
specific category. Each code will illustrate each possible outcome by categorizing answers through
similarities. Data entry for closed ended questions will be simpler, because only three of the questions
were open ended. Most patterns can be realized through the closed ended questions. Time can be
saved and biased can be removed by analyzing each individual response and categorizing them by
identifying patterns and giving them codes. Open ended questions can be coded and filtered to be
analyzed as well through similarities. Coding is important, because results can be more easily checked
through subgroups than individual answers per respondent.
Once codes are set, the next step is to enter the numeric codes. Individual responses should be
consolidated into the numeric codes in order to make the results easier to analyze. The codes would be
entered into a computer and then analyzed by a data entry operator. Intelligent data entry is a popular
method used to analyze patterns. Skip patterns, invalid codes, or violations can be identified through
this process. Through this

Racial Orthodoxy
In her article Berrey (2011) studied why diversity became the accepted norm. In the study Berrey
examined data from the University of Michigan from 1965 through 2005. The data collected studied
the Opportunity Awards Program that was started by the university. The program was intended to
increase the diversity of the campus because at this time minority students made up less than .1% of
the school s demographic. To measure the success of the program school administrators used the
number of enrolled minority students as the gage of diversity. In the late 1980s the school changed
their approach from emphasizing disadvantage to emphasizing inclusion. Up through the early 2000s
the university continued to make changes to the diversity program. By this point most of the emphasis

that Berrey makes that some programs in certain contexts are concerned with race, but others seem to
not be concerned with race at all, as with what happened at the Michigan university. The article
discussed what Berrey found to be the three major reasons for why diversity became orthodoxy at
Michigan. The first and most dominant was the legal influence and precedent. The second was for the

with many different specimens, toxins, bacteria, and environmental situations. It feels many different
sensations, and changes. Also, the skin reacts in certain ways to certain situations accordingly within a
millisecond. The skin or integument system is composed of many different sections and accessories,
functions for multiple outlets, and falls at risk of disease everyday. The integument is divided by two
main sections, the epidermis and dermis. (Amirlak) The outermost layer of the skin is the epidermis.

in the deepest layer, stratum basale, consists mainly stems cells constantly undergoing mitosis, causing
layer after layer of new keratinocytes to be shoved towards the surface. Also in this layer, melanocytes
can be found synthesizing melanin, which gives you your skin color. (Saladin) Lastly, the curvy
boundary between the dermis and epidermis, is called the dermal papillae. These ridges actually create
the projected fingerprint on the hand. (Amirlak) The dermis is composed mainly of dense irregular
connective tissue, specifically collagenous fibers.(Amirlak) The dermis also contains other accessory
structures including, the hair follicles and hair, various glands, and the nails. The hair follicles, and
hair consist of a bulb, root and shaft. The bulb or indention around the base of the follicle, has many
stem cells going through mitosis. This is also the only area of the hair, with living cells. (Saladin) The
root is the remaining hair below the skin s surface finally the shaft is the leftover hair above the
surface. Another accessory, the glands, assort by sudoriferous, sebaceous, ceruminous, and mammary.
(Accessory) Sudoriferous glands, or better know as scent glands, are categorized by either apocrine or
merocrine. Apocrine are scent glands located in areola, axilla, groin, anal region, and adult male bread
areas.

Descriptive Essay About Overcoming
Overcoming
Okay, so to warm up tumbling, I ll have you guys touch in this order... my coach Brooke told us but I
had already stopped listening.
I couldn t hear over the pounding of the blood rushing through my head. My teammates and I are
about to warm up our tumbling passes and I just got mine last week. Now, I started to overthink. What
if I fall on my head and die? What if I chicken out and land flat on my back? I would be utterly
humiliated... and in pain but mainly humiliated.
Lauren, it s your turn to warm up, Brooke said snapping me out of my thoughts.
Okay Lauren, you can do this. Just don t die and you ll be fine, I said to myself hoping that I was right.
The music stopped and I sauntered onto the floor. It was navy blue and not as malleable as ours. My
heart beat started beating heavier and more intense. BA BUMP BA BUMP BA BUMP. I reached the
corner of the floor and wiped my hands on my legs. I looked at my coach and she gave me a
reassuring smile. I took a deep breath and started to sprint across the floor. I felt the satisfying thud of
my hands making contact with the floor and my feet landing back on the floor. All I had to do know
was wait for the next routine to finish so I could do it again.
The routine finished and I strode back onto the floor but this time with more confidence. I wanted to
get it over with swiftly so I started running a second after I had reached the corner. This time, my
hands weren t the only thing that touched the ground. My

Behaviorism, Constructivism, And Cognitivism
A. Behaviorism, Constructivism, and Cognitivism
There are three approaches to learning that I will discuss in this section they are behaviorism,
constructivism, and cognitivism. Behaviorism is a learning theory based on the idea that any behavior
can be learned through conditioning as long as the conditioning is done the right way. There are two
types of conditioning. The first type is classic conditioning. This type of conditioning is where a
subject is provided a stimuli and based off of the stimuli the subject learns a specific behavior which
in turn becomes the conditioned response to the stimuli. The second type of conditioning is operant
conditioning which is reinforcement and punishment. This type of conditioning requires a ... Show

There are four stages of cognitivism. The first stage is from ages birth to two years old, one discovers
the world through their senses. The second stage is from two to seven, one develops language and
skills and their main focus is on self. The third stage is from ages seven to twelve, one starts to see the
world and how it relates to others not just themselves. One also starts developing the ability to think
logically and critically which allows one to see things and interpret things how they really are. The
fourth stage is from year twelve throughout the rest of one s life. In the fourth stage one develops
cognitively logical and abstract thinking, which allows one to analyze things logically and draw
logical conclusions in an abstract way.
A1. Support
There are several examples I could provide for each of the three learning theories discussed in the
above section. The first example is in support of the behaviorism learning theory. At the beginning of
each school year, I establish procedures with all of my classes. This creates an optimal learning
environment for all students to allow for the greatest amount of success. Each student is then
conditioned to follow each of the established procedures the same way through practicing over and
over again with a reward, if students carryout the procedure correctly. If the students do not follow the
procedures correctly, there is a

The War between Scotland and England in the Reign of...
Why did War break out between Scotland and England in the Reign of Edward I?
On the 14th of May 1264, the forces of Simon de Montfort, Gloucester and the Londoners were set
arrayed against the loyalist forces of King Henry III, Richard of Cornwall and Prince Edward (later to
become King Edward I). The loyalists suffered a massive defeat at this Battle of Lewes and among
those captured, aside from Richard of Cornwall and perhaps the King (Prestwich indicates the unsure
nature of the King s capture 46), were the northern barons (Scottish lords) of Balliol, Bruce and
Comyn. (Jenks 132) Prince Edward also became a hostage as part of an exchange after the battle.

One of these four advisors was John Balliol, father of the future King of Scotland. (Prestwich 26) It is
quite clear that, [families] notable in Scottish history were also notable in England... The Bruces...
were a Yorkshire family, and the Robert Bruce who was Balliol s rival for the Scottish crown in 1292
had served Henry III for twenty years and ended... as chief justice of the English court of king s bench.
(Miller 4) Given that such relationships so closely tied the English and the Scottish leaderships war
was far from anyone s agenda. However, during this time it was not uncommon even for close
relationships to digress towards war. Family lines were built with strategic marriages to link families
together, but they could just as easily lead to arguments and even war, specifically resulting from such
strategic partnerships (or lack there of).
Alexander II King of Scotland had been married to Joan, younger sister to Henry III, but later married
Mary of Coucy (daughter of a great French house) after Joan s death. This new marriage offended
Henry III, not least of all because he was trying to recover French land (Poitou) and gain respect in
continental Europe. (Powicke 586 7) To prevent war a new treaty was made giving the King of Scots
more power, but at the same time asking him not to enter into any alliances hostile to England. This
treaty was cemented by the marriage of Alexander (son of Mary and King Alexander II, who died

Nirvana And The Four Noble Truths
The two ways for people to reach Nirvana was to followed the Eight fold path and the Four noble
truths.
The Eight fold path described the way to end samsara as it was taught by Siddharta Gautama the
Buddha. It was a practical guideline to ethnical and mental development with the goal to free one from
the cycle of samsara and lead one to understand the truth about all things. Together with the Four
Noble Truths, it lead to the gist of Buddhism. Great force was put on practical aspect because it was
the only through practise that one can attain higher level of existence and finnaly then reach Nirvana.
The various eight path were not to be understood only by a single step but they must be understood
that they were connected to each other.

Right View was the aspect of wisdom. It meant to see things through, to grasp the not permanent and
the non perfect objects or ideas and to understand the law of karma and karmic conditioning. Right
View was began with the power of realising and understanding insight that all beings were subject to
suffering and it ended with complete understanding of true nature of all things. Right view yields right
thoughts and right actions.
2. Right Intention
Right intention could be described best as commintment to ethnical and mental self improvements.
Buddha marked differently the three types of Right intentions as 1. The intention of resiting to pull
aside the desire. 2. The intention of good will meaning to fight the feelings of anger and aversion and
3. The intention of harmlessness meaning not to think cruelly, violently or aggressively and must

Corporal Shanek Case Summary
On Thursday, 29 March 2018, at approximately 1139 hours, Corporal Shanek was dispatched to the
Outpatient Center Ortho Clinic for a patient (later identified as Haley Eastin) threatening to hurt
herself and describing plans of suicide. At approximately 1149 hours, I heard Corporal Shanek radio I
need additional units in OPC now . I arrived at approximately 1150 hours. Upon my arrival I observed
a thin build white female walking out of the Ortho Clinic waiting area being followed by a black
female RN (Hill), a white female social worker and Corporal Shanek. I asked Corporal Shanek What
are we doing? as they approached. Corporal Shanek was on the phone with Lt. Berthia as I doubled
back and around the café to cut Eastin off at the main entrance doors. No one came around so I
proceeded forward and noticed Corporal Shanek standing outside the Women s restroom. The staff

time, I grabbed Eastin s left wrist with my left hand and placed my right hand in her back forcing her
onto the counter. Corporal Shanek assisted me in getting Eastin s right wrist in the handcuffs. At
approximately 1153 hours, I advised dispatch that Eastin was in custody. Eastin continued to struggle
when trying to remove her from the restroom, however upon arriving at the patrol vehicle she calmed
significantly and was compliant. I then advised dispatch that Eastin was going to be transferred to the
Emergency Department for evaluation. The nurse and social worker were also transported to the ED.

Internet Sexual Addiction
Internet Sexual Addiction
It seems that the Internet has become an ever growing part in numerous areas of the everyday lives of
people. One area that is worthy of further study involves sexual addiction and how it is related with
too much use of the Internet. Some scholars allege that sociopaths are starting to emerge online and it
has been dubbed as technological addictions . This article looks at Internet addiction with respect to
excessive sexual behavior. It includes discussions of the notion of addiction to sex and whether the
entire notion is viable. This will be achieved through the assessment of the small quantity of available
empirical data. It also concludes that sex on the Internet is a new form of expression that may ... Show

Then again, there is still the argument regarding the most apt term to describe the condition of
individuals with extreme sexual behavior including sexual addiction (Carnes, 1983), sexual
impulsivity (Barth Kinder, 1987), sexual compulsion (Coleman, 1986), and non paraphilia related
conditions (Kafka, 1993). Sexual addiction has been defined by Carnes (1999) as any form of
compulsive behavior that is sex related and obstructs a normal life and eventually becomes
uncontrollable, although he has also referred to it as a pathological affiliation with an experience that
alters the mood (Carnes, 1983). By investigating the psychological motive behind addiction, there
seems to be three fundamental classifications: fantasy addictions (sexual activities that break away
from mundane reality), satiation addictions (sexual activities that ease discomfort and tension), and
arousal addictions (sexual activities that thrill and stimulate).Sexual behavior has the ability to
encompass all these three classifications of sexual addiction. It is difficult to determine the level of
sexual addiction though approximations vary from three percent to six percent of the population
(Carnes, 1999). In addition, studies show that there exists a high association between childhood abuse
and addiction to sex in adulthood, and it is very common for a sex addict to have gone through
significant levels of sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse. Socio demographic factors are distorted

Nadine Gordimer on South Africa
In the twentieth century alone, the world has witnessed oppression in many places, like the South
African apartheid, which literally means apartness (Omond 11). Nadine Gordimer, an esteemed author
and South African native, has lived to see the injustice and conflict her country has experienced during
apartheid rule, which lasted just under a half century. Most of her literary work throughout the decades
of apartheid oppression united under the banner of freedom for the victims of apartheid. Her books
speaking on the dangers and horrors of apartheid, as well as a call for its dismantling earned her a
Nobel Peace Prize for literature in 1991. One of her short stories, Once upon a Time, published in
1989, creatively depicted many issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The family is living in luxury, ignorant to the chaos erupting outside of their suburb. They continue to
believe that all was well in the world, when the reality was just outside their trimmed hedges and
green lawns. They believe they are safe with their local neighborhood watch plaque with the words
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED (Gordimer 190) on it, but when the wife exhibits fear of the colored
people, the husband s reply is equally as toxic: there are police and soldiers and tear gas and guns to
keep them away (Gordimer 190 191). A sentence later shows the true nature of the faulty comfort the
husband gives, buses were being burned, cars stoned, and schoolchildren shot by the police in those
quarters out of sight and hearing of the suburb (Gordimer 191). This only proves to be a
foreshadowing of what is to come, and the actions of the family have direct consequences, in which
their former happily ever after turns to chaos because of their submission to apartheid ignorance. The
third irony is presented with the family s hired hands: they had a housemaid who was absolutely
trustworthy and an itinerant gardener who was highly recommended by the neighbors (Gordimer 190).
During apartheid, white South Africans generally accepted some of the native African peoples as their
housemaids and gardeners, only accepting them if they were responsible and submissive to

My Papaw Short Story
My papaw, Fred, has always played a role of being easy going and simple. He s about six foot, has
wire glasses, wears khaki Carhart overalls everyday and when you stand close enough, his afternoon
smoke will put your senses on overdrive. He drives a small, bright red pickup truck, along with every
other man in Kingsport, that you can almost taste the gasoline when it passed. He moved to Kingsport,
Tennessee when he left the air force, and was only twenty one at the time. He had very little to his
name, but had hopes higher than all the stars on a clear, country night. There was one thing that my
papaw was sure to have with him at all times, and that was a cigarette. If he has his cigarettes then he
knows that someone will have a lighter. His addiction isn t healthy, but it relieves his stress. With his
cigarette, he carries PTSD and shaky hands. My family used to give him a hard time until we saw him
go without one. He dreams of jets taking off over his head and the roaring engines leaving him deaf in
one ear. His slightly discolored fingertips shake with anxiety at the thought of ever being on another
plane. He can name every part, what it does, and exactly how the engine works. He recites it as if he is
staring straight at one, the memories absorbed into his mind like a paper towel soaking up spilled
water. When he sees a plane fly over, I see his yellow stained fingers reach for another. My papaw
says he is a simple man, but he is far from it. His billfold hangs out

Rhetorical Analysis Of Holes Then Watching The Film ...
Holes Persuasive Essay
After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can
without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the novel
to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure. When I
watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure and the
entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute to why I
believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes .
Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was
descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself losing
focus and interest. This may be due to the slow pace and difficulty to picture each scene realistically.
Time after time, I found myself unengaged and unwilling to continue the novel due to its lack of
emotional description. However, in the movie, actually watching the scenes be bought to life engaged
audiences and, during major scenes in the plot, enhanced the audiences experience using drama,
realism and passion.
The first example of a scene that is represented better in the film than compared to the novel, is when
Hector Zeroni runs away from the camp. In the novel, while the boys are digging holes, Hector is
involved in a fight with ZigZag after ZigZag threatens Stanley. During the

Mount Shasta Essay
Mount Shasta: One of Northern California s Remarkable Mountains In far Northern California, about
forty miles south of the Oregon California border, resides the second highest mountain in the Cascade
Range and the fifth highest mountain in California. The Cascades are part of the Ring of Fire, which is
a ring of volcanoes and earthquake sites, around the borders of the Pacific Ocean. Mount Shasta can
be seen for several hundred miles and has struck viewers with its remarkable beauty since it was first
seen. Mount Shasta towers at 14,162 feet, remains snow capped throughout the year and is often

It was photographed by the famous photographer Ansel Adams, and it has been the subject of many
famous artists, authors, and poets. It is amazing to look at the mountain on Ariel photographs, satellite
maps, explore it on a 3D tour on Google Earth, or look back at the oldest maps that were drawn by the
earliest explorers and surveyors. The first map was drawn in 1883 by cartographer and co founder of
the National Geographic Society, Gilbert Thompson while working for the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS). Thompson s map is a sketch rather than a topographic map, but it is the first fairly accurate
representation of Mount Shasta. Thompson included the majority of the mountain s major features and
the glaciers are named on his map (A Historic Mount Shasta Sketch). Mount Shasta is in Northern
California near the Oregon border. We live 88 miles as the crow flies from the summit of Mount
Shasta, and our home faces the East side of the mountain. The mountain is visible from our kitchen
window, our living room, and deck. Although not visible at times due to cloud cover or hazy
conditions it is easily seen on many days. It always stops me for a moment to look at the massive
snow covered mountain. On occasion, it is topped by lenticular clouds and wave

Should The Government Surveillance Of Internet Privacy The internet is a vast global interconnected network enabling numerous people to access countless information and communicate with others miles away. When browsing the web nowadays, however, many forget what’s really happening behind the scenes. Internet cookies and complex algorithms are being downloaded behind your back allowing big brand companies and even the federal government to track what the people are doing. This is a major violation to our right to privacy which is implied in the Constitution. On the other hand, it’s understandable for the government to have a substantial amount of surveillance of the internet to monitor terrorists and people seeking to cause harm, but the extent the US government controls over the web is absurdly large and unnecessary. Overall, surveillance and order must be maintained throughout the internet to deter fanatics intending to cause harm, but the United States government have increased their range so wide it has ... While Montresor was carrying out his revenge, Fortunato s traits are shown as being spiteful, gullible, and oblivious. At the beginning of The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor is portrayed as a vengeful enemy towards Fortunato. Obviously, Fortunato must ve insulted him in some way to result in his act of revenge. If you have to look at those scratches in the living room floor, the foot traffic stains down the hallway, the Kool aid stains under the dining room table, or the chipped tile in the kitchen one more time, you might go off the edge and wind up in the looney bin. You are tired of going to a friend s home and secretly envying their perfect looking floors. Gone are the days of flipping through magazines and drooling over the pictures of nicely decorated rooms with flooring that looks amazing. So you ask your friend what company did their floor and how much it cost, not to be nosey, but to get an idea. Labor per square foot is the given rate per square foot of floor area. Initial Preparatory Work involves all actions required to be completed before the contractor can begin working on the floor. There are three parts to this section. Initially, all the furniture and fixtures (toilet, sinks not attached to walls) need to be removed. Depending on the quantity/size of furniture/fixtures that need to be removed, contractors will typically charge between $15 and $50 per hour. Customers can cut out this cost if they agree to have the items removed prior to the contractor arriving. However, if it is agreed upon and the items are not removed, the contractor will usually charge 150% of the normal rate, because this will add additional time to the job, causing him to possibly run behind schedule for another job, and he schedules jobs based on time estimates. The next part is the removal and disposal of the existing floor. The price for this can range from $25 to $75 per hour, based on the type of flooring being removed. Carpet and vinyl are easy to remove, thus would be on the low end. Tile is more difficult because mortar is used to install it and all of that has to be broken up and removed. Again, the customer can save during this phase if they do the removal themselves, with the same penalty if not removed prior to the contractor arrival. The final part of this phase is repairing the subfloor. Costs for this repair vary greatly on what needs to be repaired, and are usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Loblaw s must continue striving for excellence and remodel their supply chain, in order to maintain and exceed their company profit margins. Integrated Strategy Loblaw s is one of the most successful companies in the grocery retail industry in Canada, in order for Loblaw s to penetrate a global market they must identify, plan and execute a strategy. Loblaw s needs to identify new market potential internationally which in turn increase profit and gross margins, in order to continue expanding. Such starting locations for expansion that seem feasible are developing cities in the United States that are relatively close to the Canadian boarder. This will make it easier to control and monitor this project closely, because since this is the first global expansion, Loblaw s should keep a close eye on their productivity to determine if they can compete globally. • 8. Humanitarian Crisis Research Paper When America claimed its independence from Great Britain in 1776, its founding fathers couldn t have foreseen that their country would become involved in as many foreign conflicts as have occurred in the past century. As America became a world power at the turn of the twentieth century due to its military capacity and economic capabilities, the nation became involved in humanitarian crises which even involved mass genocide. The U.S. provided aid in these international crises, sometimes even to the point of supplying military force. Although highly controversial and continually debated, America s position as a world power will always bring with it the responsibility to aid in humanitarian crises when it is identified that foreign citizens are denied basic, recognized human rights. • 9. The American Dream For A Long Time Essay House, a shelter for people, which is one of a basic requirement for human survival in today s world. According to Andriotis (2014) and Shlay (2006), homeownership is regarded as an aspect of the American dream for a long time (p.1) (p.527). The American dream, a pursuit that a large number of US citizens seek, require individuals work hard to achieve it. In other words, owing a property has long been a gateway to the American dream. Individuals have possession of the house if they have enough money to afford the payment on a home and be willing to purchase it. Otherwise, people need to rent a house to guarantee that they have a relatively fixed shelter. However, there are the limited rights for the tenants, and thus they have to depend on the decision of owners, whereas the landlords have the power to make a decision on the property since they have the housing ownership. Hence, whether to buy or rent have become a fundamental problem that plagues the individuals. Elsinga and Hoekstra (2005) point that the homeownership not only in favor of personal, but also benefit the community (p.403). Therefore, buying a house is over than renting since it brings tremendous benefits to individuals. Specifically, purchasing a property is a desirable option that generates tax benefit, build self confidence for owners, and profits the construction of the community harmony rather than renting a house. • 12. Claude Of Claude Debussy s Theory Of Russian Composers Of... Claude Debussy Claude Debussy also known as Achille Claude Debussy has been one of the most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Debussy was born into a middle class family being the son of a shopkeeper and a seamstress and the oldest of his five siblings. Debussy began his career at the Paris Conservatory at the very young age of 11. During his studies, he met the wealthy Nadezhda von Meck, a patroness of Tchaikovsky, who employed him to be the music teacher to her son Nikolai von Meck. Through this Nadezhda von Meck exposed the growing Debussy to the works of Russian composers, such as Borodin and Mussorgsky, who continue to be significant influences on his compositions. In 1884, when Debussy was 22 years old, he entered his cantata L Enfant prodigy also known as The Prodigal Child in the Prix de Rome, a worldwide competition for composers. Debussy took home the top prize, which allowed him to study for up to three years in the Italian capital studying at the Villa Medici. Unfortunately, he returned to Paris after only two years. While he was in Rome, he studied the music of German composer Richard Wagner. Wagner s influence on Debussy was profound and lasting, but despite this, Debussy shied away from the ostentation of Wagner s opera in his works. In 1892 at the age mid age of 30, Debussy began to compose for operas with the start of Pelléas et Mélisande, a play written by Met Erik Satie, a pianist from Montmartre, which ... In addition to the eventual emancipation of slaves, it transformed the role of women in American History. During the Abolitionist Movement, it was thought that the duties of women were confined within the home (Boylan 363). While most women of the time agreed with this statement, there were many who did not. This change of attitude started during the Great Awakening (Baker 623). Eliza Wilkinson wrote, I won t have it thought that because we are the weaker sex as to bodily strength we are capable of nothing more than domestic concerns (Goldfield, et al. 171). The upper class though that the middle class were restricting the ideas of the society, while the middle class thought the aggressive techniques of the upper class women was atrocious (Hansen 46). Upper class white women used men s tactics like political protest and public action to spread their cause, while middle class women used church based techniques, while focusing towards the needs of women and children (Hansen 63).The elite black women were less interested in policy issues and instead advocated programs that would provide direct care to the black community (Hansen 46). Slavery was thought of as a sin by many people, causing many women to leave the church over this disagreement (Petrulionis 389). Many of these women in Boston formed the Anti Slavery Society, which became one of the nation s biggest and most influential. This era is often associated with the advancement of scientific research and arms build up as a result of the competition between these world superpowers, especially through the development of the nuclear bomb. Aside from the actual politics of the Cold War, Joseph Masco, professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago, argues in his novel, The Theater of Operations, that the Cold War provided a psychological platform for the U.S. security state to transform everyday American s perceptions of mass death. Through multiple government operations during the Cold War, the idea of nuclear disaster was presented as an undeniable threat to the American people, and instilled to a certain extent a sense of nuclear fear. Masco believes that the current state of mind in the counterterror state is merely just a continuation of the effects of the Cold War s psychological conditioning. Additionally, Masco argues that the nuclear projects during the Cold War helped initiate the advancement of earth science research. He feels that through the increased knowledge in these fields, the Cold War nuclear projects were linked to environmental concerns. Through these examples, Masco demonstrates his view on how the Cold War has influenced the U.S. cultural understanding of nuclear threats. The data collected studied the Opportunity Awards Program that was started by the university. The program was intended to increase the diversity of the campus because at this time minority students made up less than .1% of the school s demographic. To measure the success of the program school administrators used the number of enrolled minority students as the gage of diversity. In the late 1980s the school changed their approach from emphasizing disadvantage to emphasizing inclusion. The first type is classic conditioning. One also starts developing the ability to think logically and critically which allows one to see things and interpret things how they really are. The fourth stage is from year twelve throughout the rest of one s life. Sexual addiction has been defined by Carnes (1999) as any form of compulsive behavior that is sex related and obstructs a normal life and eventually becomes uncontrollable, although he has also referred to it as a pathological affiliation with an experience that alters the mood (Carnes, 1983). He recites it as if he is staring straight at one, the memories absorbed into his mind like a paper towel soaking up spilled water. When he sees a plane fly over, I see his yellow stained fingers reach for another. My papaw says he is a simple man, but he is far from it. His billfold hangs out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Rhetorical Analysis Of Holes Then Watching The Film ... Holes Persuasive Essay After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the novel to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure. I felt that the novel was descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself losing focus and interest. It was photographed by the famous photographer Ansel Adams, and it has been the subject of many famous artists, authors, and poets. It is amazing to look at the mountain on Ariel photographs, satellite maps, explore it on a 3D tour on Google Earth, or look back at the oldest maps that were drawn by the earliest explorers and surveyors. The first map was drawn in 1883 by cartographer and co founder of the National Geographic Society, Gilbert Thompson while working for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Thompson s map is a sketch rather than a topographic map, but it is the first fairly accurate representation of Mount Shasta. Thompson included the majority of the mountain s major features and the glaciers are named on his map (A Historic Mount Shasta Sketch). Mount Shasta is in Northern California near the Oregon border. We live 88 miles as the crow flies from the summit of Mount Shasta, and our home faces the East side of the mountain. The mountain is visible from our kitchen window, our living room, and deck. Although not visible at times due to cloud cover or hazy conditions it is easily seen on many days. It always stops me for a moment to look at the massive snow covered mountain.
