Enemy Within, Enemy Without By Anna Magnani
Enemy Within, Enemy Without
Anna Magnani stars as a resourceful working class Roman mother trying to overcome her unfortunate
past to give a better life to her children, even as outside threats threaten everything she has worked so
hard to build. This vague framework could easily describe both Roberto Rossellini s neorealist war
drama Rome, Open City and Pier Paolo Pasolini s irreverent rebuke Mamma Roma. Rome, Open City
concerns itself with the devastation the Italian people faced at the hands of their German occupiers
and their collaborators, the titular city and its inhabitants crumbling away in both body and spirit over
the course of a cruel winter. In their city s darkest hour, average citizens rise up to become heroes and

In the first place, it has the wind blown look of a film shot from actualities, with the camera
providentially on the scene. The stringent necessity for economy compelled the producers to make a
film that has all the appearance and flavor of a straight documentary.
Crudely shot on discarded US Signal Corps film whenever Rosellini could throw together the money
to pay for further filming, the film s bleak visuals become a character in and of themselves, bracingly
authentic despite their complete absence of polish. Much like the characters themselves, the film is
quite admirable despite being unrefined and without the proper resources to express itself.
By the time Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote the script for Mamma Roma in 1962, Rome had undergone
quite the dramatic makeover. Reaping the benefits from American investment and the creation of the
European Common Market, Italians saw their standard living rise to never before seen heights. As
John F. Kennedy extolled while addressing a dinner held in his honor by then President of Italy
Antonio Segni, A nation once literally in

Arguments Against Cult Freedom
Recently, there has been a lot of controversy pertaining to cults. A majority of people would like the
groups banned or restricted for a majority of reasons. The controversies are in regards to religious
freedom against potential danger. Religious cults are protected by our freedom of religion rights and
should be allowed to exist unless they involve harmful, destructive actions.
Cults are defined as unorthodoxed mainstream religious practices. The cult stereotype, characterizes
these religious bodies as being led by a charismatic leader and recruiting members through persuasion
and other types of manipulation (ProQuest Staff). It had been defined as a group of people who had
been brainwashed by a megalomaniacal persons who imposed severe ... Show more content on

When he and his followers arrived he began doing crazy things, such as splitting up families, forcing
manual labor, and sexually assaulting members. His worst and final act happened November 18, 1978,
when he felt his cult was threatened and beginning to falling apart. Jim Jones stated, So in my opinion
is that you be kind to your children and be kind to your seniors and take the potion like they used to in
ancient Greece and step over quietly, because we are not committing suicide; It s a revolutionary act.
We can t go back; they won t leave us alone (Bio.com Editors). Jones then forced his whole cult to
drink the Kool aid, which included cyanide, a deadly poison. Nine hundred nine people were killed in
all, including over two hundred children and babies. If anyone did not take the poison, they were shot.
Four people from the whole cult survived (Bio.com Editors).
There have been many cult attacks that target the general population of countries, states, or cities. The
Japanese cult, Aum Shinrikyo, poisoned the Tokyo subway system with a deadly nerve gas, sarin, in
1995 (Ignatius). This attack caused thirteen deaths and an astounding 6,252 injuries. Because there
was no law against manufactured poisonous gas, no suspects were prosecuted (Ignatius). It is scary
knowing, that a majority of cults have access to chemical and biological weapons that could kill
thousands. Cults are beginning to

Oral B 3000 Review
Oral B 3000 Review
If you are looking to pick up an electronic toothbrush on a budget then the oral b pro 3000 is the
toothbrush for you based on this oral b 3000 review you are about to read. Sure, it is still pricey, but
not as pricey as some of the other electric toothbrushes on the market. Let us take a closer look at what
the oral b professional 3000 has to offer.
Benefits of the Oral B 3000
This product is advertised to remove around 97% of plaque from tough areas to reach with a manual
toothbrush. It is also helpful at preventing and reversing gingivitis. The oral b 3000 electric brush is
advertised to improve whiteness in teeth in as little as 21 days. When you brush too hard the pressure
sensor will kick in and stop pulsations to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Battery Life: Unlike some of the newer products on the market this brushes battery life doesn t last as
long. Usual battery life is around a week.
The oral b 3000 toothbrush does all the work for you. You simply wet the brush, put toothpaste on it,
turn it on, and watch it clean your mouth by simply guiding it while it does the rest. Hopefully you
have learned enough information so far in this oral b 3000 review, but let s go a little further and stack
it up against another similar newer brush.
Oral B 3000 VS 5000
How is the oral b 3000 vs 5000 different and similar? First, let us go over the similarities. Both
toothbrushes use the same technology, which is rated to remove almost one hundred percent of plaque.
Another similarity is battery life, even though the oral b 5000 slightly edges the 3000 by lasting three
days longer. It lasts ten days as opposed to the 3000 s seven, as this oral b 3000 review mentioned
earlier. Lastly, both brushes come with a pressure sensor to allow users to know when to stop brushing
too hard. The difference between both toothbrushes include different modes. The 5000 includes all the
modes plus a massage mode and deep clean. It also has a smart guide for brushing and information.

Analyze The Underlying Causes Of World War 1
thesis:The underlying causes of World War I, were alliances, these created rivalries between European
countries, militarism that caused countries to spend large amounts on armaments, nationalism in
citizens and leaders that compelled them to fight, and propaganda cartoons.
Nationalism played an important role in World War I, because some countries felt superior their
enemies. Colonel Dimitrevic, the head of the Serbian military and the founder of the Black Hand
secret society, explained, The war between Serbia and Austria... is inevitable... this war is determined
by our obligation to our traditions and the world of culture... our race... will not permit itself to be
assimilated (doc 6). Serbia did not want to fight in World War I. They were forced to fight because the
Black Hand society assassinated an Austrian prince, which led Austria to react The Black Hand is a

There were two different groups of alliances before and during the war took place, the triple alliance
and the triple entente. Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy belonged to the triple alliance. Russia,
France, were in the triple entente (doc 3). When Serbia assassinated an Austrian prince and
unofficially started a war, Russia came to Serbia s aid. Then Germany helped out Austria, and
eventually all of the big powers in Europe had to fight for their allies. European countries blamed
countries that weren t in their alliance for the start of the war (doc 4). This means no one really knew
who started the fight, but they fought anyway because they were obligated. If there was not any
alliances in Europe there would have been less countries involved in the

explore about the alcohol laws in New Zealand. And this training would convey the knowledge about
consuming alcohol, and effect of alcohol in the body and society.
The objectives of the training are awareness about the limit of Alcohol consumption by law of New

To inspire the students in their studying process, I have prepared some PowerPoint presentation with

Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez
I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to promote
nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very effective in
promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos
to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of these strategies
proved to be very effective throughout his entire article.
Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s
beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader to
connect with what is being said. Chavez uses the pathos argument to show American s feelings, the
American people and people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will do their
best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens of
generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there are
those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is saying we
are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault. This is hitting a
reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is effective because it works
alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s attention then the ethos takes that
attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective because if the writer has their readers
attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to take the blame, they will be more likely to
follow what is being said in order to redeem themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially
effective because people naturally do not like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to
escape this

What Is Martha Stewart Scandal
Martha Stewart was mostly known for her television shows, magazines, and books. Martha Stewart,
Inc., which the company name later changed to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, helped her reach
her celebrity status of being on of 50 Most Powerful Women, according to Fortune.
In 2002, her reputation of being a successful businesswoman took a plunge when rumors leaked
regarding her involvement of insider trading of ImClone stocks. She took part in selling her ImClone
stock after hearing news of the rejection of their new cancer drug. After being convicted, the affect of
this scandal took a toll on both Martha and ImClone. After serving her sentence, Martha began to
reconstruct her life in hopes to bounce back from the insider trading scandal. Today she has managed
to become just as successful as before this incident. Martha, born as Martha Kostyra in 1941, began
her path to fame as a model at thirteen years old. At a young age she had a fixation for cooking,
decorating, and gardening. While attending college at Barnard College in Manhattan, she met Andy
Stewart who she later married. After having one daughter, Alexis, Martha Stewart began working as a
stockbroker on Wall Street. She worked as a stockbroker until 1972.
In the late 70 s she finally started what she is best known for today, cooking and house keeping. She

European Travel and the Spread of Western Ideology Essay
European Travel and the Spread of Western Ideology
Humans began their existence as travelers, slowly making their way across the earth hunting and
gathering. This travel was quite slow and gradual, and could be termed a period of human expansion ,
as traveling groups rarely encountered other humans. It really wasn t until the sixteenth century that a
new kind of travel developed, a kind that was more global, occurred rapidly, and was filled with many
encounters with other civilizations. This sort of travel signified not simply the spreading of humans
across the earth, but more the spreading of ideas among people. And during this particular period, the
travelers were predominantly European, and so it was Europeans who, believing in ... Show more

The Europeans had a huge effect on the local peoples in the various regions that they visited. For one
thing, they brought with them many germs. As Diamond noted, the importance of lethal microbes in
history is well illustrated by Europeans conquest and depopulation of the New World (210). The
microbes killed Aztecs, Inca, and the populations of many Indian towns in the Mississippi.
Additionally, Eurasian germs played a key role in decimating native peoples in many other parts of the
world, including Pacific Islanders, Aboriginal Australians, and the Khoisan peoples of Southern
Africa... the Indian population of Hispaniola... Fiji (Diamond, 213). Because of this, European
immigrants came to supplant... much of the native population of the Americas and some other parts of
the world. (Diamond, 214). So, it came to be true that, if in nothing else, the Europeans certainly came
to outnumber many of the native peoples in many of the areas that they occupied. This gave them
added power over them, if only because of their larger numbers.
However, it was not simply the germs that the Europeans brought with them that altered life for the
native people. The technology that the Europeans had, while at first not superior, quickly became
superior. The Europeans rapidly improved upon [military technology naval artillery and sailing ships]

Airplanes, boats, and truck are some of the consumers that use fiberglass the most. Sand mining also

clay. They try to stay away from working with the kaolin because it s sticky and hard to deal with.
They also do very little frac mining. The frac mining process has several steps. Before frac mining can
began all vegetation must be removed from the area. Then to reach the target sandstone, all unwanted
rock layers has to be removed. Thirdly the top of the sandstone has to be exposed and since frac sand
is cemented together explosive charges has to be placed inside holes drilled near the edge of the mine
so the sandstone can break into small pieces. Then loaders are driven in to scoop up sandstones from
near the wall of the mine pit. After the loaders scoop up the sandstones they send the sandstones to a
crusher which breaks down the large chunks into individual sand grains. Sand grains are then washed
to remove any unwanted particles. Once it has been washed, it is stockpiled for drying, sorting, and
the final shipment. After the final shipment mine reclamation is started which is when the mined pit is
filled back up with rocks and other materials that were not used from the sandstones and the new
surface eventually be replanted. Regular sand mining at the U.S. silica is similar to this process except
that there is no need for the explosives process because the sand is already soft and comes apart

Analysis of the Coronation of Napoleon
The Coronation that Shook the World The Coronation of Napoleon by Jacques Louis David is
imposing in its dimensions. It stands at twenty feet by thirty feet and is displayed in the main gallery
of the Louvre museum in Paris. David began this work of art after being orally commissioned by
Napoleon in September of 1804. The painting came to its completion November of 1807. The sole fact
that the painting took three years to complete demonstrates something about the magnitude and scale
of the painting. This was all done on purpose of course in order to record this significant moment in

George s, The And The Axis During World War II
General S. Patton once said, Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will
surprise you with their ingenuity. Some may argue that his life was cut short while others may say it
was too long. Being a man who fought in World War I and World War II, George S. Patton, Jr.
certainly contained a wealth of experience in warfare. Looking at the written history, there were those
who seemed to undervalue Patton, as well as those who may have held him much too high.
Researchers have many different opinions on Patton s leadership, but the research here will encompass
both the positive and the negative aspects of his leadership and surrounding issues while addressing
the following questions:
1. How was Patton as a leader?
2. Patton versus Politics Did this hold back his true potential?
3. How was Patton viewed by the Allies and the Axis during World War II?
The research put forth will focus on these three questions.
George Smith Patton, Jr. was born November 11, 1885, well over one hundred years ago. He is
famously known for somewhat outrageous personality and his conduct as a general during World War
II. The family he was born into was wealthy and one with a very extensive military background, with
family members having participated in the Revolutionary War, Mexican War, as well as the Civil War.
This may explain a little about Patton s almost obsessive study of military history ranging from the
Romans to the Napoleonic Wars (CMG Worldwide, Inc., n.d.).

The Contributions Of College Athletics
College athletics have become one of America s most lucrative businesses grossing billions of dollars
off of student athletes and competing against the entertainment giants, however, this has not always
been the case. In a way, the student athlete has become our culture s holy man as he or she is admired
for their immense feats of athleticism and skill on the gridiron or the court. To understand the
miraculous story of the change of the student athlete, an individual must first look at the origin of the
term student athlete. In the 1950s, Ray Dennison died from a blunt force cerebral trauma received

As a result, student athletes have struggled to maintain their GPA. Furthermore, the graduation rates
for power five conference universities (PAC 12, BIG 10, SEC, ACC, and BIG 12) are horrendous
because of the lack of time allocated for academics. For example, in 2010, the average graduation rate
for March Madness, the NCAA Basketball championship tournament, teams was 43%, an
unacceptable rate. On the other hand, the increase in hours spent per week has caused student athletes
to identify more as athletes than students (Best college online). A direct effect of the universities
admitting college athletes that are not ready is students cannot complete basic general education
classes. According to Mary Willingham, a learning specialist at the University of North Carolina, there
were basketball players at the University of North Carolina who were illiterate. All in all, the shift of
student athletes to solely athletes is unacceptable, however, can be solved by the following: have an
agency within the NCAA to keep universities accountable for rule violations that disrupt the learning
of athletes, use revenue generated from the student athletes to provide academic support to ensure
learning, and/or have a third party agency keep universities accountable for rule violations.
The first proposed idea that would place precedence on the student aspect of being a student athlete is

Most Canadian adventures will inevitably take you through bear country. Knowing how to avoid a
bear attack is the best way to keep safe in the great outdoors.
There s different advice to follow when dealing with the three types of bears in Canada (black, grizzly
polar bear) but most people quickly forget them when they actually encounter a bear in the back
country.
The two general rules that have kept me safe in the Canadian Rockies for the past 20 years are:
1. Use common sense and always give notice of your location Make noise every 100 meters or so and
especially when rounding a corner or coming up to thick bush. Black grizzly bears avoid human

Use common sense and don t attract bears. Black, grizzly and polar bears have excellent sense of
smell and can sniff out food from over a kilometer away. Don t attract bears to you with tempting
smells.
I am not a bear expert, ecologist or even an adventure guide. I m just a regular weekend warrior who
loves to discover Canada and have seen all three types of bears in their natural territory. Bears can be
found across all of Canada except for the southern prairies, southern Ontario Prince Edward Island.
The two rules mentioned above are what I use all the time when hiking, camping boating (yes, bears
can swim). Giving these intelligent creatures the room and respect that they deserve has prevented me
from getting into a bear attack. However, if such an unfortunate escalation happens, knowing how to
survive a bear attack is vital knowledge in the back country.
Black Bears are the smallest of the bears in Canada and are more scavengers than hunters. They are
opportunistic when it comes to food (and garbage). They lack the massive shoulder hump of muscle
that characterizes the grizzly Bear.
Black bears in Canada can be black, brown or white ish in colour. They are not endangered and
estimated put their numbers at around 600,000 in North America. The white Spirit bear, or Kermode

Ama-Terasus, From The Greek Myth Of The Trojan War
All throughout history, there has been a fine balance between government and family. Millions go off
to war to fight for their country, while leaving their precious lives and families behind. Hector, and
many other Greeks and Trojans, had to go off and fight for their loved ones and defend their beloved
country. In the same way, Ama Terasu had to push away her own brother, so she could focus on her
own duties and rule over the land. Hector, from the Trojan War, and Ama Terasu, from the Japanese
Myth, are two perfect examples of two people/gods finding perfect peace between defending their
countries and being with their loved ones for all of their days.
In the Greek myth of the Trojan War, Hector had to say goodbye to his family, knowing that he may
never be able to see them again. His wife, Andromache, begged him to stay, as they had just had a new
baby boy, Ajax. At the sight of Hector, Ajax bursted into tears in fear as he was wearing a helmet, and
he didn t recognize him right away. As soon as he took off his helmet, he clung to Hector acting as if
he had never been apart from him. Hector knew what he had to do, so he walked away with tears in
his eyes. Sadly there wasn t a happy ending, Hector died in the war, and his wife was later separated
from their son, as he was brutally killed.
Meanwhile, in the Japanese mythology, Ama Terasu wasn t in a war, although she still had to choose
her job, and send her brother away forever. Sosa no wo had come to see Ama Terasu and

The Crusades were forceful battles acclimated by the Latin Roman Catholic Abbey throughout the Top

BMW AN EMOTIONAL BRAND
The automobile industry has grown to be a very dynamic one in the recent years. Even though the
essential use of this industry has been to satisfy the customer s need to travel from one place to
another in comfort, the constantly changing market, has slowly changed customer s needs into wants
paving way for high competition in the automobile arena. This essay gives a brief analysis on BMW,
one of the leading brands in the industry and how they effectively use marketing as a tool to achieve
the status they enjoy now. Even though BMW produces various automobiles including motorbikes and
are into financial service sector, this essay will look into only the cars produced by the BMW.

BMW s chief competitors are Mercedes Benz, GM, Toyota, and Ford. There are more companies
coming into the automobile industry with the same quality but cheaper price range. That s when
BMW, launched a new 7 series of cars which is more stylish and fashion orientated than their main
value of performance. This was a highly calculated risk that BMW took as this strategy deviated
highly from their core values and they faced the risk of losing the loyal customer base who believed in
the tagline promoting BMW as the ultimate driving machine. When conducting a feedback from the
customers in US, they found that almost 75% 5 were not interested in buying the product. Although,
the new look might threaten to alienate its current customer base, it has not had any damaging impact
on the company s sales. It is still the number one car brand in the European market with a sales
increase of 2.2% 8 in its home country in 2006 and almost 7%8 sales growth in the US market in
2007.
The BMW group has always been highly market driven and have been aggressive marketers of their
product. They are dynamic in their promotion and innovative and are initiators in their field. By
analysing their marketing mix, it will be possible to understand their current strategies and why BMW
is still the market leaders in the automobile industry.

Apollo vs. The Palette of Narmer Essay example
The two works of art that have been chosen to compare and contrast are The Palette Of Narmer and
Apollo of Veii. The Palette Of Narmer dates back to the Hierakonpolis Dynasty 1 in 3100 BCE. The
Palette of Narmer is interesting because it is the oldest historic work of art that names a person, and is
the earliest piece of art that uses hieroglyph. This artwork depicts the dawn of a new age of man and
his use of writing and pictographs in art. The statue of Apollo, from Veii comes from the Etruscan art
period Apollo was created around 500 BCE. It was created by a very popular sculpture of his time, by
the name of Vulca. The delicate technique of firing clay is fascinating. A sculptor of Vulca s ability

Many scholars believe that palettes decorated with animals, birds, and human figures had some sort of
ceremonial function. On the palette, Narmer s name appears in pictographs a horizontal fish translated
Nar and a vertical chisel translated Mer. These hieroglyphs appear three times on this piece of art. The
king appears as the main character in various scenes on both sides of the palette, he also appears in
hierachical proportion representing the status of individuals in a highly stratified society. The
significance of the ruler appearing larger than other human figures indicates importance and divine
status. On one side of the palette Narmer appears with the White Crown of Upper Egypt signifying
that it has been tamed. On the opposite side he wears the Red Crown of Lower Egypt signifying that it
also had been tamed. These images amongst other images of conquest proclaim him to be the great
unifier, protector, and leader of the Egyptian people.
The statue of Apollo is made of painted Terra cotta, which is also known as baked clay. It is the same
material used for pottery containers. It stands at a height of five feet ten inches, and is recognized by
the statues archaic smile, well developed massive body, quick stride, and expressive power. Apollo is
partially concealed by a robe that cascades down in knife edged pleats to his knees. Apollo is shown
striding forward which to our eyes appears that he is stepping

Hcp Essay
Your views with respect to the legal rights of HCPs during times of crisis.
Our views concerning the legal rights of HCPs during times of crisis align with the general
recommendations published since the last SARS crisis in Ontario. The SARS crisis brought several
legal and ethical debates to the public place. The most popular topics related to the legal rights of
HCPs during times of crisis surround were:
The HCPs Duty to care vs. HCPs individual rights and personal autonomy to use some discretion in
determining where, how, and when they will practice medicine. (CMA, 2008);
The right to refuse or to stop work where health or safety in danger, HCPs are excluded Part V
Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario, 2016).
The right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another concern is about the public responsibility to ensure HCPs safe work environment. Although,
the HCPs are excluded from the OHSA, the employers still have the obligation to ensure the health
and safety of its employees. Because crisis, are exceptional situation, health organizations should
prepare its resources to assure the HCPs about the safeguard of their health and their family members
when on duty in high risk situation (Ruderman, et al., 2006).
Also, HCPs, should not fear more risks from a crisis, such as undue workload, financial burden, up to
employment dismissal (Upshur et al., 2005).
,In 2016, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MoHLTC) has put in place the Building a
Ready and Resilient Health System Plan. The MoHLTC s plan is supposed to reinforce the OHSA; the
rights and obligations of all parties in the workplace to ensure health and safety of the HCPs. Based on
this plan, we can assume that some uncertainty about the risk for HCPs will decrease to fulfil their
duty to care in crisis, because of the OHSA s obligations for:
Administrative controls. Written procedures that change work processes to protect against infectious
agent. (MoHLTC, 2016);

The Importance of Personal Responsibility

As an adult you are responsible for every action that you take, but before that action are a series of
thoughts that lead you to taking that action. Your personal responsibility starts at a young age, you are
either taught personal responsibility as you grow into an adult by being held accountable of your own
actions or the responsibility is taken from you. Depending on how you were brought up your transition
into becoming an adult can either be an easy one or a difficult one where everyone is to blame but

The Origin Of Diversity Within Species
According to Charles Darwin, he suggested that all organisms were descendants from a common
ancestor that was once existed in the past (Darwin 1859). As organisms share a lot of common
characteristics due to common ancestry, the history of evolution of different species can be known
through comparing how closely their genes and body structures were. The more similar those
characteristics are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of
diversity between every single species and between every single individual. Diversification allows
organisms to occupy different niches in the ecosystem. In this essay, the origin of diversity within

Origin of diversity between species
A common ancestor gave rise to all organisms on earth. However, every individual species developed
their own distinct character that allows them to play a specific role in the ecosystem. Diversity is
caused as species are being isolated by geographic barriers or by sexual selection. The diversity
between species can be present as there is a difference in the species heritable trait. Those organisms
that contain an advantageous allele that allows them to be better adapted to the environment survive
and reproduce. As a result, the advantageous allele will be inherited by the offspring and the frequency
of the advantageous allele will increase within the population. In the example of Strepsirhini, it was

Oligopolistic Companies and How They Compete
Oligopolistic is a market structure which under the imperfect competition. According to Sloman

When we hear that a term about Big three , Big four or Big five it can be set down as oligopolistic

I chose the story To Build a Fire by Jack London. I chose this story because it was the one that caught

tale. This short story is about a man who sets out on a journey through the Yukon trail. He goes on the
trip all alone, only accompanied by a dog despite the warnings of the locals that going alone on a
journey with such freezing weather is dangerous. At the end, the man realizes he should have heeded

A Short Story Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
The Triangle shirtwaist factory fire on March 25, 1911, was one of the worst tragedies ever back then,
causing the death of 146 workers. This company was owned by Max Blank and Isaac Harris. They had
a little shop by 1900 and it grew quickly, they moved their business to the ninth floor of the new ten
story Asch building. There were approximately 500 workers, mostly immigrant women, worked at the
Triangle shirtwaist company. Bessie Cohen, who survived was inside the building and wrote a short
story of what had happened. Most women either died from the fire or jumped from a high height.
They jumped because the fire trucks ladders could only reach up to seventh floor. The doors were
locked to prevent workers from stealing or leaving, thus, they had no escape. According to fire
marshal, cigarettes were the cause of the fire. Cotton is even more flammable than paper, more like
explosively. Plus, the factory had woods and there were oxygen. After the fire, they had an
investigation. Max Blanck and Isaac Harris was the owner of the Triangle shirtwaist factory. They
emigrated from Russia and met in the United States. By 1900 they had a little shop and it grew up

Feminism is a topic that comes up strongly throughout the movie of The Joy Luck Club. Feminism is
extremely important in this film and shows its face quite frequently whether it be between family or

feminism aspect needs more acknowledgement. Luckily, the author of the series does an outstanding
job at illustrating that. The Joy Luck Club depicts the types of hardships women must go through

Setting is the least important puzzle piece of feminism, but it does educate the viewers more about
what it was like during The Joy Luck Club. As stated beforehand, The Joy Luck Club took place in the
1980s. Most people assume sexism and discrimination has long died down into the dirt, but it still
violently sprouted through the ground with determination instead of withering away. Chinese people
were way more strict and cruel when it came to discipline children or being in a marriage. Children,
shoved around ruthlessly by mothers, and wives; still experiencing mistreatment by their sorry
excuses of a husband. Under those circumstances, Amy Tan portrays an accurate representation of
what it was back in the 1900s for women of Chinese descent. Back when the main characters were
teenagers, they did not have any rights to themselves. An incident that explains this more in detail was

The Positive Benefits Of The Electric Car
The electric car is an innovation that has been around for decades, yet people seem reluctant to follow
the trend. Electric car sales have not thrived on their own. According to Alissa Walker s article, Car
Ownership May Decrease in the U.S. Here s Why , electric cars make up an estimate one percent of all
cars currently owned in the United States. Changing policies will help us move in a new direction
towards the electric car. Countries like India, France, and Britain are setting laws that ban the sale of
internal combustion cars, which are cars powered by gasoline (Glinton). Countries are already placing
policies that can help increase electric car sales and help it become a trend. Consumers are not willing
to invest money into an innovation that is relatively new and different. It is important to tell these
consumers the positive benefits of the electric car. Electric cars are a much better alternative, so more
research and funding should go into promoting the electric car and increasing sales. It is important to
address the problems the electric car has, so that improvements can be made. Consumer s negative
opinions play a big part on whether the electric car sales increase or not. Electric car sales can increase
through improving the electric car internally and externally, by increasing the amount of charging
stations available, by providing government incentives, training car salesmen, and by promoting
awareness of the positive benefits the electric car can provide. So why should we invest in improving
electric car sales? The benefits of electric cars seem endless. According to Ergon Energy, a
government owned corporation, a couple reasons why consumers should consider the electric car as
their mode of transportation because it is cheaper to run, cheaper to maintain compared to the
petrol/diesel car. There are many different parts of the car that are not needed that are used in internal
combustion cars like, expensive exhaust systems, starter motors, fuel injection systems, radiators, and
many other parts that are not needed in an electric vehicle (Benefits of Electric Cars). When
consumers drive an electric vehicle, they are contributing to the reduction of air pollution. Electric

However, these breakthroughs have caused this rapid growth to come to an end. As the vast spread of

This was a great opportunity for Compaq to enter the market and prosper using retail dealers to reach

future generations to enjoy. Luckily for me I ended up in the North pavilion, where Italian art before
1700 is housed.
The first piece of art I focused on was the painting titled Allegory of Fortune by Dosso Dossi. Dosso
painted it around 1530 in Italy. The painting depicts a man and a woman, the man is sitting with a robe
over his lap and the woman is sitting with her breasts exposed and her body positioned such that you
can t see full frontal nudity. The woman represents fortune, and she is holding a cornucopia,
representing the bounty she may bring. She is sitting on a bubble which denotes that her favors are
fleeting. The man in the painting represents chance. He is looking longingly at fortune as he deposits
lottery tickets into a golden urn. During the time of the painting, civic lotteries were becoming popular
in Italy. It is believed that the painting s probable patron was Isabella d Este, Marchioness of Mantua.
Isabella s emblem included a bundle of lots, signifying her personal experience with varying fortunes.
One interesting fact about this painting is that it was found and purchased for a modest sum at a flea

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Abnormal Psychology
According to Cherry (2016), abnormal psychology is a branch within psychology that focuses on
behaviour that is unusual and not deemed as normal within society. This branch of psychology is
composed of a variety of disorders and their causes as well as possible management and/or treatment.
With this in mind and within this assignment, I will discuss the causes of abnormal behaviour, discuss
the causes and symptoms of mood disorder as well as discuss the background and importance of
Sigmund Freud.

Biological make up and genetics could also play a part in causing an individual to display abnormal
behaviour. It is believed that the disorders that are found within abnormal psychology are as a result of
the genetic make up of the individual, for example as a result of a brain defect. Although some
disorders can be characterised by genetic defects, it is not possible that these defects can be pin
pointed as the sole cause.
(Fincham et al, 2005: 317)
Attachment and security serve as further causes of abnormal psychology. As above, the attachment
model of psychopathology also places emphasis on the relationship between the parent and child but,
rather than focusing on the perceptions of the child, there is a focus on the characteristics of the actual
relationship. It is believed that if a parent does not provide a feeling of security, trust and love then the
child will develop a negative view and, thus, result in an inability to regulate emotions and feelings.
As a result, the child will be at a greater risk of developing a disorder.
(Fincham et al, 2005: 317)
Distorted can be defined as selectively changing or not completely representing true reality. With this
definition in mind, distorted thinking can most certainly be deemed as a cause of abnormal
psychology. Thinking in a distorted manner can allow an individual to expect the worst and exasperate
on negativity and pessimistic ways.

O meally suggests that Ellison also incorporates the Blues within his character developments for a
very different purpose, other than those of mood and rhythmic sequences. He suggests that Ellison
intentionally focuses on the music of Armstrong so as to introduce a concept of materialistic
fascination within the narrator. Just as the catchy tunes of the Blues, the narrator too is fascinated by
the concepts of equality and justice and is haunted by racial imbalances however, he is simply
intrigued by such ideologies but never really tries to divulge his entire aspirations into the cause. He
waits for a magical idea, which for him will be the ticket to success and consequently allow him to
become visible. He is in many aspects selfish to his own dilemma of invisibility and strives only to be
recognized much as the various artists from the Blues era. The narrator s obsession with recognition
can be recognized early on in the prologue where he strings 1369 light bulbs in the underground hole
just to feel visible. Such a comparable lunacy can be observed in the Blues where many musicians
often transcend into another state of consciousness where the singular focus of their cognizance is the

My favorite quote comes from Ray Kroc, a well known businessman who was a part of the
advancement of the billion dollar company McDonald s once said the quality of a leader is reflected in
the standards they set for themselves. This is my favorite quote because it directly states that which I
try to live by daily. Before entering into my high school career, I set in my mind that I wanted to be as

The information system transaction processing infrastructure was good for a company of their size
along with password management and recovery mechanisms. Plus, the company hosts their
ecommerce application outside of Vermont which provides more advantage positon on the national
internet. Although these are all positive aspects of the system, the system also has numerous flaws. For
starters the IT architecture document exists but was incomplete. Secondly, some of the application
were connected to the middleware to the core enterprise application, whereas, others run
independently. Thirdly, the system was too complex and aging. As a member of the Board of Directors
the IT architecture would be a great concern especially the part where all the necessary information
resides in one person s head. The major concern; however, would be with the system stalling during
peak experiences. 4. At a time when cash reserves were quite limited, Bob Stetzel wants an efficient,
well organized enterprise IT architecture that could serve as a robust platform for the company s
changing business requirements. Given your analysis in response to the previous questions, and any

Youth Violence Essay
Youth Violence
Youth violence is an escalating problem in American society today. There are many different factors
that can be blamed for this problem. During the last decade of the twentieth century people began
searching for answers to this dilemma which is haunting America. Many tragic school shootings have
taken place within the last decade that have gained the attention of the public. As of now, no one can
give the right answer to the problem or the reason that it happens because there is no right answer yet
and nobody can be sure that they know the cause. All we have to go by are the opinions of different
people. The most popular cause of the problem of youth violence is the media. In The Erosion of

This statement brings up another opinion, the opinion that children s behavior stems from their parents
or elders behaviors. A young male, who is brought up in a violent household, is more likely to be
violent outside of the home. This idea brings us back to the saying monkey see, monkey do; what
children see is what they will do. Among our many solutions to youth violence is the idea that too
many guns are not the problem, but too few guns is the problem. The Colorado Legislature is currently
debating a bill to further enhance the state s conceal carry statute. Those backing the measure say that
a teacher or administrator with a concealed gun could have stopped, or greatly minimized, the
Littleton tragedy. (Lee 255) Lee says, Blaming guns for such incidents...is ludicrous. His solution to
our rising problem of youth violence is not censoring the media, but is bringing more guns in the
mainstream. This does not mean children walking around school armed. It means putting more guns
into the right hands. At first glance this proposals sounds pretty good. When one puts some thought
into it, it somewhat changes their perspective on the issue. Does this solution seem ethical; giving

PTEN can be expressed in bacteria such as E.coli or in mammalian cell culture such as human
embryonal kidney HEK 293. Accordingly, there are advantages and disadvantages associated with
each expression system. For bacterial expression system, they have the benefits of the fast growth,
lower cost, and well understood genome and proteome system. However, the bacterial expression
system express unfunctional protein that lack the proper folding beside that there is a risk of
contaminate the desire protein by lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin). On the other hand, mammalian
expression system has the pros of given a proper fold protein since there are appropriate post

the disadvantage of using mammalian expression system are the slow growth, higher cost, difficult
optimization of media, and very low yield of the desire protein [4,8 and 10].
In bacteria, such as E. coli, operon codes include the expression of three separate enzymes needed for
lactose metabolism. Prior to the operon a regulatory gene continually makes repressor proteins that
bind with the operator thus restrain the transcription of the operon. Indeed, the system remains off
until lactose molecules bind to the repressors and prevents their attachment to the operator. Once the
operator is free, the transcription of the enzymes continues until there are no enough lactose molecules

  • 2. Enemy Within, Enemy Without By Anna Magnani Enemy Within, Enemy Without Anna Magnani stars as a resourceful working class Roman mother trying to overcome her unfortunate past to give a better life to her children, even as outside threats threaten everything she has worked so hard to build. This vague framework could easily describe both Roberto Rossellini s neorealist war drama Rome, Open City and Pier Paolo Pasolini s irreverent rebuke Mamma Roma. Rome, Open City concerns itself with the devastation the Italian people faced at the hands of their German occupiers and their collaborators, the titular city and its inhabitants crumbling away in both body and spirit over the course of a cruel winter. In their city s darkest hour, average citizens rise up to become heroes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first place, it has the wind blown look of a film shot from actualities, with the camera providentially on the scene. The stringent necessity for economy compelled the producers to make a film that has all the appearance and flavor of a straight documentary. Crudely shot on discarded US Signal Corps film whenever Rosellini could throw together the money to pay for further filming, the film s bleak visuals become a character in and of themselves, bracingly authentic despite their complete absence of polish. Much like the characters themselves, the film is quite admirable despite being unrefined and without the proper resources to express itself. By the time Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote the script for Mamma Roma in 1962, Rome had undergone quite the dramatic makeover. Reaping the benefits from American investment and the creation of the European Common Market, Italians saw their standard living rise to never before seen heights. As John F. Kennedy extolled while addressing a dinner held in his honor by then President of Italy Antonio Segni, A nation once literally in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The controversies are in regards to religious freedom against potential danger. Religious cults are protected by our freedom of religion rights and should be allowed to exist unless they involve harmful, destructive actions. Cults are defined as unorthodoxed mainstream religious practices. When he and his followers arrived he began doing crazy things, such as splitting up families, forcing manual labor, and sexually assaulting members. His worst and final act happened November 18, 1978, when he felt his cult was threatened and beginning to falling apart. Jim Jones stated, So in my opinion is that you be kind to your children and be kind to your seniors and take the potion like they used to in ancient Greece and step over quietly, because we are not committing suicide; It s a revolutionary act. We can t go back; they won t leave us alone (Bio.com Editors). Jones then forced his whole cult to drink the Kool aid, which included cyanide, a deadly poison. Nine hundred nine people were killed in all, including over two hundred children and babies. If anyone did not take the poison, they were shot. Four people from the whole cult survived (Bio.com Editors). There have been many cult attacks that target the general population of countries, states, or cities. The Japanese cult, Aum Shinrikyo, poisoned the Tokyo subway system with a deadly nerve gas, sarin, in 1995 (Ignatius). This attack caused thirteen deaths and an astounding 6,252 injuries. Because there was no law against manufactured poisonous gas, no suspects were prosecuted (Ignatius). Analyze The Underlying Causes Of World War 1 thesis:The underlying causes of World War I, were alliances, these created rivalries between European countries, militarism that caused countries to spend large amounts on armaments, nationalism in citizens and leaders that compelled them to fight, and propaganda cartoons. Nationalism played an important role in World War I, because some countries felt superior their enemies. Colonel Dimitrevic, the head of the Serbian military and the founder of the Black Hand secret society, explained, The war between Serbia and Austria... is inevitable... this war is determined by our obligation to our traditions and the world of culture... our race... will not permit itself to be assimilated (doc 6). Serbia did not want to fight in World War I. They were forced to fight because the Black Hand society assassinated an Austrian prince, which led Austria to react The Black Hand is a society that wanted to keep Serbia from being assimilated. • 7. Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to promote nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very effective in promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of these strategies proved to be very effective throughout his entire article. Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader to connect with what is being said. Chavez uses the pathos argument to show American s feelings, the American people and people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will do their best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens of generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there are those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is saying we are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault. This is hitting a reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is effective because it works alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s attention then the ethos takes that attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective because if the writer has their readers attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to take the blame, they will be more likely to follow what is being said in order to redeem themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially effective because people naturally do not like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to escape this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It really wasn t until the sixteenth century that a new kind of travel developed, a kind that was more global, occurred rapidly, and was filled with many encounters with other civilizations. The frac mining process has several steps. Before frac mining can began all vegetation must be removed from the area. Then to reach the target sandstone, all unwanted rock layers has to be removed. Thirdly the top of the sandstone has to be exposed and since frac sand is cemented together explosive charges has to be placed inside holes drilled near the edge of the mine so the sandstone can break into small pieces. Then loaders are driven in to scoop up sandstones from near the wall of the mine pit. After the loaders scoop up the sandstones they send the sandstones to a crusher which breaks down the large chunks into individual sand grains. Sand grains are then washed to remove any unwanted particles. Once it has been washed, it is stockpiled for drying, sorting, and the final shipment. After the final shipment mine reclamation is started which is when the mined pit is filled back up with rocks and other materials that were not used from the sandstones and the new surface eventually be replanted. • 14. George s, The And The Axis During World War II General S. Patton once said, Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity. Some may argue that his life was cut short while others may say it was too long. Being a man who fought in World War I and World War II, George S. Patton, Jr. certainly contained a wealth of experience in warfare. Looking at the written history, there were those who seemed to undervalue Patton, as well as those who may have held him much too high. Researchers have many different opinions on Patton s leadership, but the research here will encompass both the positive and the negative aspects of his leadership and surrounding issues while addressing the following questions: 1. He is famously known for somewhat outrageous personality and his conduct as a general during World War II. The family he was born into was wealthy and one with a very extensive military background, with family members having participated in the Revolutionary War, Mexican War, as well as the Civil War. There s different advice to follow when dealing with the three types of bears in Canada (black, grizzly polar bear) but most people quickly forget them when they actually encounter a bear in the back country. Hector, and many other Greeks and Trojans, had to go off and fight for their loved ones and defend their beloved country. In the same way, Ama Terasu had to push away her own brother, so she could focus on her own duties and rule over the land. Hector, from the Trojan War, and Ama Terasu, from the Japanese Myth, are two perfect examples of two people/gods finding perfect peace between defending their countries and being with their loved ones for all of their days. In the Greek myth of the Trojan War, Hector had to say goodbye to his family, knowing that he may never be able to see them again. His wife, Andromache, begged him to stay, as they had just had a new baby boy, Ajax. At the sight of Hector, Ajax bursted into tears in fear as he was wearing a helmet, and he didn t recognize him right away. Although some disorders can be characterised by genetic defects, it is not possible that these defects can be pin pointed as the sole cause. As above, the attachment model of psychopathology also places emphasis on the relationship between the parent and child but, rather than focusing on the perceptions of the child, there is a focus on the characteristics of the actual relationship. It is believed that if a parent does not provide a feeling of security, trust and love then the child will develop a negative view and, thus, result in an inability to regulate emotions and feelings. O meally suggests that Ellison also incorporates the Blues within his character developments for a very different purpose, other than those of mood and rhythmic sequences. He suggests that Ellison intentionally focuses on the music of Armstrong so as to introduce a concept of materialistic fascination within the narrator. Just as the catchy tunes of the Blues, the narrator too is fascinated by the concepts of equality and justice and is haunted by racial imbalances however, he is simply intrigued by such ideologies but never really tries to divulge his entire aspirations into the cause. He waits for a magical idea, which for him will be the ticket to success and consequently allow him to become visible. He is in many aspects selfish to his own dilemma of invisibility and strives only to be recognized much as the various artists from the Blues era. The narrator s obsession with recognition can be recognized early on in the prologue where he strings 1369 light bulbs in the underground hole just to feel visible. Such a comparable lunacy can be observed in the Blues where many musicians often transcend into another state of consciousness where the singular focus of their cognizance is the beat similar to the narrator s unrealistic obsession with ... A young male, who is brought up in a violent household, is more likely to be violent outside of the home. This idea brings us back to the saying monkey see, monkey do; what children see is what they will do. Among our many solutions to youth violence is the idea that too many guns are not the problem, but too few guns is the problem. The Colorado Legislature is currently debating a bill to further enhance the state s conceal carry statute. Those backing the measure say that a teacher or administrator with a concealed gun could have stopped, or greatly minimized, the Littleton tragedy.
