 Statistics is the science which deals with the
method of collecting, organizing, presenting,
analyzing, comparing and interpreting
numerical data collected through some light
on any sphere of statistical enquiry.

STATISTICS
 Descriptive statistics
consist of methods for
organizing and
summarizing
information. It includes
the construction of
graphs, charts, and
tables, and the
calculation of various
descriptive measures
such as averages,
measures of variation,
and percentiles.
 Inferential statistics
consist of methods for
measuring the reliability
of conclusions about
population based on
information obtained
from a sample of the
population. It includes
methods like estimation
and hypothesis testing.

qualitative data related to LIS activities based
on library collections, library users, library
staffs, library services and library use.

the required information may be collected:
1) Complete Enumeration/Census Method
2) Partial Enumeration/Sample Survey Method

 It is a technique of collecting enumeration
from each and every members of the
population. It is a time consuming, costly
method and requires more man-power.

 It is a technique of selecting part of the
population and collecting information from
the selected individuals/observations. It is a
less costly method, less time consuming and
requires less man-power

 Investigators collects the requisites
information personally from informants from
the field of enquiry under any study.

 Schedule is a list or table of formal and
standardized questions or inquiries with the
purpose of collecting quantitative data.
 In this method a number of trained and
skilled enumerators are selected. They go to
the respondents along with questionnaire and
record replies to the questions in a face to
face situation with the respondents.

information by the investigator from this
type of presentation.

technique of presenting collected numerical
data in a condensed and readily
comprehensible form. Such tabular form of
presentation of statistical data is known as
Tabulation.
