Terminological Concept
 Information- When some data express some meaning.
 Analysis- A process of braking a topic into smaller elements in order to
understand it.
 Consolidation- The act of combining into an integral whole.
 Packaging- Recording, arrangement and presentation of something in
some medium.
 Repackaging- The process of packaging something again into a new
manner.
History of IACR
In the earlier 19th century, two scientist Beilstein and Gmelin tried to bring some
kind of order in ever increasing flood of data, to make experimental findings for
other scientists, by means of their handbooks and data compilations.
ModernIACR
The IACR term is very recent which includes selection, evaluation, analysis,
interpretation and synthesis of a body of information in a clearly defined specialised
field with the intent of compiling, digesting, repackaging, organising and presenting
information in a form timely and useful according to the requirements of different
types of the users.’
NeedforIACR
 Objectives of the parent institutions.
 Expressed or established user need.
 Problem area.
 Elaboration of the subject to be covered.
 Proliferation of literature on the subject.
Users of IACRproducts
Researchers & Scientists
Scientists, researchers, engineers (may involve in academic, R&D or
in industrial area) etc. are some of the users of scientific and
technological information.

Policymakers/planners
In the non-R&D context the user groups one come across planners,
policy makers, decision makers, managers, executives, industrialists,
small entrepreneurs, extension workers etc.
Communicator/Intermediaries
The extension workers act as intermediaries for establishing liaison
between the generators and the end users, whose objective is to
help people to help themselves.

Community Groups
The group/community of common people (may be rural or urban) in their
day to day life.

pre-requisites
 Third Pre-Requisite-
Knowledge of the helpful methods of presentations of ideas.
 Authorial work.
 Guiding principles.
Stages/steps for IACR
 Initiation steps.
 Scope determination.
 Collection of information.
 Appraisal of Information collected.
 Scope re-definition.
 Preparation of draft text.
 Testing of draft text.
 Finalisation.
 Special situation.

IACR Products
IACR products may be defined as Information Consolidation Units-
a product involves the performance of various activities like selecting,
acquiring, evaluating, analysing, synthesising, restructuring,
packaging, repackaging etc.
Some example of IACR products:
