Alone on the Hilltop
In Lame Deers story Alone on the Hilltop he recalls the moment in life when his first hanblechia
occurred at the age of 16. The first scene begins on the hilltop where Lame Deer had been brought by
Chest, the medicine man. Lame Deer has been left all alone on the hilltop for 4 days nights with no
water or food. The only thing that he had with him where his star blanket which his grandmother had
knitted for him, a pipe with kinnickinnick, and gourd which contained forty pieces of his

Opinion
This in my opinion was a very interesting account of American Indian rituals. Lame Deer did a great
job on comparing and contrasting the white folks way of life with his own. He told us how Indian
children are typically never left alone which gives us a better understanding on why he was so afraid
of being alone on the hilltop. I feel like in this story I really got a better understanding of the Indian
way of life. They seem to be very tight knit group who value tradition above everything. Family seems
to be the most important theme as demonstrated by his grandmothers willingness to cut forty pieces of
her own flesh in order to make the rattle. This whole aspect about them is admirable but at the same
time I feel like they don t really take any actual logic into account. The whole vision determines your
life labor seem really fallible in my opinion. I can t really relate to this story in the sense that I have
never really experienced any of these things as im not a Sioux. I do think though that this story can be
related into our modern world in the sense that many kids are pushed into choosing a life career at a
relatively young age. Lame Deer was only 16 at the time but that is only a mere two years younger
than kids today. To some extent I found admirable that he at such a young age had already known

This semester has felt how Joan Didion describes her time in New York City in Goodbye to All That,
how six months can become eight years with the deceptive ease of a film dissolve (Didion). The
semester has flown by. It is something I have come to call the time warp of college, when days

In my opinion the research paper is the keystone to Writing 100, it tests everything you learned
throughout the semester; but at the same time, the research paper was an ongoing process. Even
comparing the draft of my research paper to the final version of my research paper, I see stark
differences in my use of sources and source integration. A section from my first draft that discusses

With countless people dying, climbing, each year, should these people be saved, even if it means
others might die? By helicopter, is the main method these climbers are saved. These rescues are
escalating in number each year. Although this method is very expensive, it also very efficient. Less

My Experience Of Swimming
Swimming demands nothing short of perfection.
I was ten when I first entered into a major Swimming competition, a stepping stone towards achieving
my dreams. Hours were poured into training and sacrifices made simply for a perfect race to the
podium. I had arrived 3 hours earlier, and to my dismay that the competition had been delayed. My
parents hid their apparent annoyance, in hope that the long wait would prove its worth, yet only to find
out it actually was not. The long wait took its toil on me and panic overcame me at the starting blocks.
In a field of 8 swimmers, the number 8 flashed brightly against my name, glistening tears welled up in
my eyes as failure washed over me.
I hated that part of Swimming. It washed away hours and years of work and sacrifices, dashed the big

The challenge that many students face upon entering first grade in a low social economic status area is
low literacy skills. The students represented in this developmental paper come from low income
families whose parents were poorly educated, many illiterate. As a result, students would rarely read
to at home, either due to the lack of literature in the home or the parents were non readers and unable
to read to or read with their child.
Relevant Theorist
The first theory with an impact on this developmental literacy challenge is B.F. Skinner s first theory
Children at age two have a vocabulary that reaches up to 2,000 words, by the age of four, preschool
age children of parents who are literate have increased their vocabulary to a maximum of 10,000
words. This would be difficult to accomplish in a household where both parents are illiterate,
especially when it comes to more rich vocabulary words.
Lastly, it is important to include Norm Chomsky every time we talk about language acquisition.
Through his studies we can say that children can learn a new language because of their innate ability
in their brain to be able to classify different words, specifically grammatical terms. He suggested that
we have a device in our brain which he called a Language Acquisition Device that allows children to
notice the differences between two languages. In my opinion if all of us have this device. All the child
needs to stimulate it to be able to learn those important first words that a child is going to need as they
further exposed into a language.

A hero is someone few people can be. A hero is someone who is able to do a task no one else can do
and be able to help in situations of need. A hero is someone who puts others people s needs ahead of
his own to do what s good. Someone who has all the qualities of a hero is Spongebob. In his film The
Spongebob Movie Stephen Hillenburg uses the character archetype the hero to show that we as
humans need someone to lead us because when we face life s biggest challenges we need someone to
help us out.
Spongebob makes many bold moves in the beginning of the movie. This shows us how Spongebob is
a character who does anything he can to do what he believes is good. Spongebob says something in
the beginning of the film that showed me he was a hero. Yes I might only be a kid, but I will never
stop trying to save mr. Krabs. This showed me his perseverance as people might doubt him in the
beginning of his journey but he will never give up if he thinks he is doing something good.
Spongebob now faces many challenges during the middle of the film. He doesn t give up though
showing the audience how he will continue to attempt to save the whole city. Patrick says We can t get
to Shell City now. Our car has been stolen and there is no way we will get the crown and come back in
time. Spongebob then exclaims We can t stop now, if we go back Mr Krabs will die and the whole city
will continue to be run by Plankton. He is able to get the strength not to give up even when it doesn t
look like he will be able to save the city he still knows what he has to do even though he has gone
through so much challenges. He was attacked my motorcycle gangs, guys with mustaches, giant
worms, and a Cyclops but he didn t stop fighting.
