Starting Essay With A Quote
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Starting an Essay with a Quote" might seem deceptively
simple at first glance, but delving into the intricacies of this approach reveals a multitude of
challenges. The initial hurdle lies in selecting a quote that not only aligns with the essay's theme
but also captivates the reader's attention. Striking the right balance between relevance and
intrigue is a delicate art that demands careful consideration.
Once the quote is chosen, the next obstacle emerges in seamlessly integrating it into the essay's
introduction. There's a fine line between a quote that enhances the narrative and one that feels
forced or disconnected. Achieving a harmonious blend requires finesse in both language and
structure, demanding a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of the essay's
overarching message.
Moreover, there's the challenge of ensuring that the chosen quote serves a purpose beyond mere
ornamentation. It should function as a thought-provoking catalyst, setting the tone for the entire
piece and inviting readers to ponder its implications. Achieving this depth requires not only a
profound comprehension of the quote itself but also an ability to articulate its relevance to the
essay's core ideas.
Furthermore, navigating the potential pitfalls of relying too heavily on quotes can be daunting.
The danger of overshadowing one's voice with the words of others looms large, making it
imperative to strike a delicate balance between external wisdom and personal insights. Crafting
an essay that seamlessly weaves quotes into its fabric without losing the author's unique
perspective demands a high level of writing skill.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic of "Starting an Essay with a Quote" may seem
straightforward, it entails overcoming a series of intricate challenges. From the careful selection
of a quote to its seamless integration and the nuanced balance between external wisdom and
personal voice, this task demands a writer's utmost attention and skill. Similar essays and more
can be explored and ordered through various platforms, offering assistance to those navigating
the complexities of essay writing. If you find yourself in need of further guidance or support,

John Patrick Shanley s Doubt
Douglas Light said that our imagination is better than any answer to a question.
Light distinguished between two genres: fantasy from fiction. He described how
fantasy stimulates one s imagination, which is more appealing, but fiction can just
be a relatable story. In the same way, Books and movies are very different entities.
In the short parable Doubt, the readers are lured in to the possibility of a scandalous
relationship between a pastor and an alter boy. The readers curiosity is ignited
because they are not given all the details. Therefore, their mind wanders further than
the plot to create a story and characters that acted on one s imagination; thus, the story
became entertaining flooded by the questions of what? Who? How? By... Show more

In fact, all the details within the play stimulated one s imagination to create something
that was never stated in writing. In no part of the play does it outright say that Father
Flynn had any encounter with the alter boys other than during basketball practice and
his apparent close friendship with Donald Muller. Yet, through the readers
imagination, they assume scandalous scenarios between the Donald Muller and
Father Flynn while still curious about what the truth is. The viewer was in constant
doubt, of both characters intentions and motives. The parable is filled with indirect
notions, assumptions, and gossiping. So why is this specific parable so entertaining?
Its simple the reader used their imagination to piece together a relationship that at
multiple times in the play cause them to doubt their own beliefs and consider the
opposing possibilities. The play let you feel everything, know everything and live
vicariously through the characters. With the play, you can Sister Aloysius, Father
Flynn, or even Donald Muller; however, with the movie you are merely an observer.
Books allow you to make up parts of the story(visuals and what people are like) while
movies are more direct telling you what to see.
The play involved more character devolement, so the reader was able to learn the

English Piracy Trial
Alfred Rubin, the prominent historian on English piracy law believes there may be
some precedent for such a view. While acknowledging that the crown required special
commissions to sail again pirates beginning in the sixteenth century, he contends that
some jurists followed natural law. This approach meant that no such license was
necessary to hang a pirate when delivering them to authorities was impractical.
However, little evidence exists that this kind of frontier justice was anything beyond
rumors and speculation. Once such account comes from Captain Charles Johnson s
account of The Life of Captain Worley. Captain Worley and a single crewmember

Parliament passed The Treason Trials Act of 1696 in response to a series of treason
cases brought against political opponents of the monarchs during the later Stuart
dynasty in the 1670s and 1680s. This landmark legislation, which English policy
officials spent over a decade negotiating, was a reaction to what contemporaries
considered blatant judicial murder and gross crown intrusion into judicial
proceedings. Judges, handpicked by the crown and dependent on royal favor for
personal and professional status, fashioned a courtroom environment similar to piracy
trials of the subsequent decades. With no jury of their peers, unrepresented defendants
had little practical defense in the hostile environment that pre determined their guilt.
The Treason Act was an attempt to try and correct the obvious deficiency in the court
proceedings by chipping away at the prosecutions clear advantage. Specifically,
defense witnesses were made compulsory, a power previously limited to the
prosecution, and the court now accepted their testimony under oath. It provided the
accused with an advanced copy of the indictment, and limited the evidence to charges
listed therein. Most importantly, it guaranteed defendants the right to counsel during
both the pre trial, and the trial itself for the first time. The drafters of the bill saw that
treason trials presented distinctive problems that required special procedures, The
seemingly unique features of treason prosecutions, previously emphasized the
prosecutorial imbalance, the subservience of the bench, the complexity of the offense
of treason appeared to contemporaries to demarcate the treason trial as a procedural
world of its own, remote from ordinary crime. I contend these features were not
unique to treason, but shared with
The Importance Of Voting In Congress
Topic Statement The public in America is disillusioned to believe that they run the
government as they are on the top in the hierarchy of democracy. However in
practice the incidents suggests that the rich are ruling the country while the
general public is left with no choice but to follow the rules set in favor of the few.
Ironically, there is an indifference towards this attitude in the general public as it is
seen as a part of the American dream. The issue of if contributors to a particular
politician buy the respective congressmen to vote in their favor is highly debatable.
While certain groups believe that contributions are made to campaign of a particular
politician because the donators believe in the cause and issues put forward by the
candidate and want to support that cause. There is an increasing belief on
assumptions that donations to campaign of a political person leads to a high level of
corruption where congressmen vote for the people they have received donation from.

William Blake Had A Strict Standard On How His Poems
Should
William Blake had a strict standard on how his poems should appear. In his poems,
he was not very concerned with grammar or spelling, even though he was writing
in a time much after the official English language had been created. Much of his
spellings are very old fashioned to us and at times can sound very awkward. Even
his readers in his time found that the wording and spelling of phrases and words was
quaint. William Blakealso used forms of punctuation that were not considered to be
standard. He used the ampersand , instead of the word and. Following his unorthodox
style, William Blake did not print his poems in type, instead he engraved them on an

Theological tyranny is the subject of The Book of Urizen (1794). In the prose
work The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790 93), he satirized oppressive authority
in church and state, as well as the works of Emanuel Swedenborg, a Swedish
philosopher whose ideas once attracted his interest. Blake s main concept was
imagination and many people questioned if he was brilliant or just completely
insane. William Blake was influenced by many great thinkers of his day, and was
well aware of the conflicts that were arising between science and the arts in his era.
In his work, he makes sure to define reason and explain how it differs from passions.
He even assigned personalities to represent the conflicts and characteristics of these
definitions in his poetry and art. There have been many men who loved to speculate
the future. William Blake was one of these men, and if he spoke incoherently and
obscurely, it was because what he spoke had never been discovered before. He
announced the religion of art, which no man had ever done before him, and he
understood it better than anyone else. He published his most popular collection,
Songs of Innocence, in 1789 and followed

Benefits of Cloning Essay
Benefits of Cloning
What if while walking down the street you encountered someone who looked exactly
like you? Would you stare in amazement or would your heart be filled with fear? At
first some people may look upon the idea of cloning with disgust and question
themselves if humans should play God while others would be interested and study
the many possibilities that cloning offers. This illustrates the path that cloning has
taken over the latter part of the twentieth century. At first, when cloning was brought
up in conversations, people tended to fearfully think of an army of identical persons
marching across the earth in hopes of ruling humans. This and many other absurd
notions of clones stem from science fiction movies and ... Show more content on

Since then people think that biologists are cloning both human and other mammal s
embryos only to see how far they can push the scientific envelope, but in fact there
are many legitimate reasons for investigating cloning. Embryologists believe that
research into cloning could help improve the life of future generations. Cancer
research is possibly the most important reason for embryo cloning they argue.
Oncologists believe that embryonic study will advance understanding of the rapid cell
growth of cancer. Cancer cells develop at approximately the same phenomenal
speed as embryonic cells do. By studying the embryonic cell growth, scientists may
be able to determine how to stop rapid cell division, and also stop cancer growth in
turn (Hyde 15). Another important area of embryo cloning research is embryonic
stem cell development. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can develop into
almost any type of cell in the body. These cells are not attacked by a person s
immune system, because of their fast development and undifferentiated status
(Wilmut 4). Many doctors believe that these stem cells could be used in treatments for
brain and nervous system damage.
Perhaps a more questionable use of cloned embryos is for spare parts and hormones.
Production of transgenic farm animals to make organs to transplant in humans with
organ failure has been heavily researched. Companies

* Hepatorenal Syndrome: defined as a rapid deterioration in kidney function that
manifests from an acute insult to the liver. Changes in blood flow due to decreased
kidney function causes toxins to begin impairment of the kidneys since the liver
cannot kill off the toxins before hand. This condition is considered secondary to
portal hypertension for this reason.
* Edema: abnormal accumulation of fluid (aka swelling). This is important for
cirrhosis because when the tissue starts turning into scar tissue, the kidneys retain
more salt. This increase in salt and water causes the visualized swelling. As time
progresses, this swelling can affect abdomen area of the body, making edema
secondary to hepatocellular failure since it is the tissue cell morphing that causes
edema to manifest.
* Esophageal Varices Bleeding: scarring of liver causes blood flow through the
liver to decrease. With the decrease in liver blood flow, more blood pumps through
veins causing them to balloon outward. The increased amount of blood in the veins
results in a vein bursting and leads to bleeding. This condition is secondary to portal
hypertension because of the alternate routes the blood takes due to the scarred liver,
causing the veins to work harder and accumulate more blood within a certain span of
time, not being able to drain in a timely matter. 2. Why is
Significance of the Toleration Act Essays
Significance of the Toleration Act Religious intolerance was normal practice
throughout the Middle Ages, the Reformation bringing with it much persecution.
Christian Anti Semitism fuelled the religious insecurity prevalent in Europe but by
the end of the sixteenth century Poland, the Dutch Republic and France had reached
a state of tolerance , being in contrast to the religious intolerance still present in
England at this time. The passing of the Toleration Act in 1689 appears to have been

John Prideaux, Archdeacon of Norwich at the time gives us a example of this
grievance, writing in 1691 ...more lay hold of it to separate from all manner of
Worship to perfect irreligion than goe to them; and although the Act allows no
such liberty, the people will take it soe. As suggested in the passage above, the Act
was resolutely against the unreligious who chose to go to the alehouse rather than
mass and in fact sect 16 contains a strongly worded condemnation of such
behaviour.... Provided always and it is the true intent and meaning of this Act,
That all the laws made and provided for the frequenting of Divine Service on the
Lord s Day....shall still be in Force, and executed against all persons that offend
against the said Laws, except such persons that come to some Congregation or
Assembly of Religious Worship, allowed or permitted by this Act. However, the
Archdeacon s apprehension does not appear to be unfounded as in the years
following the Act there was indeed an upsurge in the publication of heterodox views
and a growth of popular irreligion [2]. The Toleration Act may not have wittingly
given rise to a type of Atheism but it seems that the freedom to choose lost the
Anglican Church its power to demand faith, losing it control over social and later

A water quality statement released by Liesl Kenney, Public Relations Director for
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is addressing reports of E. coli and coliform bacteria.
The harmful bacteria, detected in the potable water supply at Squaw Valley forced
High Camp and Gold Coast restaurants on the upper mountain to close their doors.
Much of the blame of the high bacterial count in the water supply for Squaw Valley is
being attributed to recent heavy rainfalls that have come though the region in the past
weeks. Squaw Valley Public Service District General Manager Mike Geary

The issue came to the attention of Placer County Department of Environmental
Health director Wesley Nicks. Officials responded immediately with flushing the

engineering crews injected sodium hydrochloride to eradicate the harmful bacteria in
the water supply. They report that the bacteria levels are decreasing in a majority of

Until all the wells test results no show indication of harmful bacteria, water supply

Psychodynamic Approach Essay
drives and our childhood experiences, (particularly five years of age). (4) Parental
techniques embraced and exacted onto us shape our behaviours as adults. Differences
(Psychodynamic vs. Behaviourist approach) A key distinction between the
psychodynamic and behaviourist methodology is regarding nature/nurture debate.
The psychodynamic methodology considers both nature and nurture while the
behaviourist approach just considers the nurture side of the debate. In the
psychodynamic approach, Freud guaranteed that adult personality is the result of
inherent drives (nature) and childhood experiences (nurture). These inborn drives
include the structure of the personality, the Id, Ego and Superego and, in addition, the
psychosexual stage of development... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary standard of the behaviourist approach is that all behaviour is ought to
be quantifiable in a quantitative way. Behaviour is ought to be studied objectively
and variables ought to be operationalised so they are simplified and easy to
measure. For instance, Bandura s work was done under lab conditions, a standout
amongst the most scientific methods; whereby children were assigned to test
conditions (aggressive group) or control condition (non aggressive group). By
changing the variables, Bandura could infer that hostility was because of the social
learning hypothesis. On the other hand, the psychodynamic approach is not
scientific as it is not testable, which makes it hard to falsify. A decent hypothesis
ought to have the capacity to be tested to demonstrate in the event that it is correct
or incorrect. It is hard to test this hypothesis scientifically. For instance, the use of
dream analysis is a subjective method and there are no exploratory estimations of
interpretation. Additionally a lot of Freud s work was in view of a very small
sample and it is hard to generalise these discoveries to other individuals in the

KIA, which means arise from Asia in Korean, started out making bicycles prior to
World War II (Kia Motors Corporation, 2008). The company developed the
manufacturing of steel bicycle tubing into a multi national corporation producing cars
and trucks. Prior to merging with Hyundai in 1998, Kia was the second largest

Demand Conditions The demand conditions in South Korea have been
unparalleled in other countries in recent history. In 1963, the per capita Gross
National Product (GNP) was $100. This has grown to $20,000 per capita and
South Korea is now the seventh largest trading partner with the United States
(Background Note: South Korea, 2008). This growth in GNP is staggering
considering that it took the United States 130 years to grow its Gross Domestic
Product ten fold (1870 200) (Barro, 2003). Barro (2003) notes that this growth is
fairly evenly distributed. This distribution of income has remained relatively
unchanged from 1960 to today (Barro, 2003). Life expectancy and infant mortality
indicators have also significantly changed. Life expectancy has increased from 54
years to 73 years and infant mortality has dropped from 8% to 0.8% since 1960
(Barro, 2003). This rapid growth and increase in personal income has led to a
significant growth in internal demand for automobiles. According to a study
conducted by AC Nielson, who developed an Aspiration Index (AI) to measure
current ownership levels and future intentions to buy, over 60% of those surveyed
indicated an intention to buy. This is compared to the same index in the United

Pcos Research Paper
A health condition that is generally unfamiliar to many people, Polycystic Ovary
Syndrome (PCOS), is where some women s hormones get out of balance due to any
one of several issues including extreme chronic stress and the natural process of
menstrual changes in the body. Typically, women with PCOS grow small cysts on
their ovaries, and while not in themselves harmful, the cysts may lead to more serious
health problems such as in diabetes and heart disease. (1) On average, Americans in
particular consume 1/3 of a pound of sugar daily. Half of that amount is fructose. In
that amount of sugar, fructose is 300 percent more than is needed to trigger
biochemical havoc throughout the body. Incredibly, some Americans easily consume

After fructose, grains are the most excessively consumed food that promotes
weight gain and chronic disease. (2) How Then Can Women Best Manage PCOS
And Its Symptoms? Well, by essentially using food as a medicine. Fruit: A Two
Edge Sword For Those With PCOS Being that different health authorities and
nutritionists class sugar in a different category than let s say fructose, as found in
fruit, or sucrose, as found in desserts, some health experts recommend that people
get to know their fruit well as to their glycemic index count. That being said, there
is no doubt that fruit with its vast storehouse of minerals, vitamins, fiber and
nutrients is good for individuals if they do not have a health issue to deal with
such as insulin resistance, diabetes or PCOS. (3) Know Your Sugars Simply put,
when you eat sugar in the form of sucrose, there is a fast entry into the blood
stream that causes a sharp spike in one s blood sugar and insulin levels. Not a good
thing. In contrast, fruit being composed of fructose and full of good fiber content,
takes longer to digest. Fruit juices, even without additional sugar, are carte blanc to
sugar spikes faster and higher than those caused by eating a fruit

Essay about Performance Measurment for Non-Profit...
Performance measurement for DMO
As noted in section..... DMO s are non profit organizations. They have the
responsibility to coordinate all the stakeholders in a destination and market them
domestically and internationally. In order to get the stakeholders support and funds
for the their own operations to manage, they have to measure their performance. They
have to report to the stakeholders and governments to keep their actions transparent
and productive. (OWN WRITTEN)
There are many performance measurement techniques to measure an organisational

The acceptance is only achievable if DMO s perform better and keep the
transparency by reporting their activities to the stakeholders.
Performance reporting has become very important to communicate with the role and
importance of the existence of the DMO s to their stakeholders. Performance
reporting does not only measure the activities but also help DMO S as a key resource
management tool to keep a track on sale and marketing decisions and employee
development (Destination Marketing Association International, 2011)
Koutoulas. D (2005) recommended the easily collected key indicators such as
tourist traffic, source markets, capacity utilisation, RevPar, average length of stay
etc. for local DMO s to measure their performance. These indicators not only
monitor the destination performance but also help in strategic decision subjects.
Koutoulas (2005) further highly recommend reviewing these indicators monthly,
quarterly or yearly. In 2006 Koutoulas presented a DMAI tool to measure the DMO

analysis tool (P.157, 158). The limitations with DMAI tool that they are useful for

It’s Time to Limit Restrict Hate Speech Essay
It s Time to Limit Restrict Hate Speech
Free speech is the backbone that holds democracy together. Without a free speech,
ideas would not be challenged, governments would not be kept in check, and
citizens would not be free. John Stuart Mill said once that, If all mankind minus one
were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind
would be no more justified in silencing that one person then he, if he had the power,
would be justified in silencing mankind. ( Roleff, 21). The right to free speech is
essential to egalitarian democracy, (Tsesis) however, this right is not absolute and
must be limited in certain situations.
Hate speech is one form of expression that should be limited in some ... Show more

This speech grew to action, which led Nazi leaders to implement the Final Solution,
and the massacre of six million Jews. But what about hate crimes today in the United
States, how are hate based murders different from a murder of a random individual.
The answer to that question is in the brutality of the crime. Hate crimes are, for the
most part, inherently more brutal because of deeply rooted ideals between two
opposing groups. This brutality has led many, including former president Bill Clinton
to call for legislation against hate crimes (Hellwege).
Yet another important question to ask is, what exactly defines a hate crime? Is what
Dr. Laura Schlessinger guilty of a hate crime when she says that individuals are
entitled to respect and kindness as fellow human beings, when she publicly
denounces homosexuality? (Leo). A logical person wouldn t think so. However, Dr.
Schlessinger is coming under heavy scrutiny form gay rights groups protesting the
good Doctors radio show and calling for her silence, or, at a minimum, an apology on
the subject. Denouncing homosexuality pacifically should in no way be compared to
the hostile descent of neo nazi hate groups. So should both hostile and pacifist
discent be limited on the same scale? Pacifist descent should not be limited at all in
any case, to do so would be a total suppression of free speech and hostile dissent
should only be limited in certain extreme cases. This must be done
Guests of the Nation, a Review of Conflicts Essay
Guests of the Nation, a short story by Frank O Connor takes place in 1921 during
Ireland s fight for independence from British rule. Set in a small cottage in the
countryside of Ireland, the story tells of two Englishmen who are prisoners and are
being watched over by three Irishmen. The story tells of the relationship that develops
between the captives and their captors and explores the conflictthat arises when the
soldiers are called to duty.
The story consisted of seven main characters, each adding depth to the story and
contributing to the development of the plot. Two of the seven characters where the

Noble and Bonaparte were the young soldiers who were guarding the Englishmen.
Both befriended the Englishmen as they played cards with each other and even
argued about politics and religion. Jeremiah Donavan, on the other hand, did not
have such a rapport with the prisoners. Though he supervised the card games and
even yelled at the Englishman Hawkins as if he were one if his own soldiers, he kept
his distance and was thus not as close as Noble and Bonaparte were.
The plot of the story unfolded as Jeremiah Donavan revealed that the prisoners were
actually hostages and that there was a possibility that they would have to execute the
Englishmen. As the story continued to unfold, the possibility became reality when
Feeney the intelligence officer revealed that the prisoners were ordered to be
executed. It is in this pivotal moment that the conflict of the story arises and that the
soldiers are faced with a conflict that in turn, proves to be deeply complex in that it is
both internal and external.
While externally the soldiers had to deal with the act of actually shooting the
prisoners (more simply killing a man), internally Bonaparte and Noble dealt with
the internal conflict of having to kill a friend. As Hawkins pleaded the case of friends
shooting friends, we were forced as readers to also question the call of duty to a

Alexander Hamilton Revised
Throughout Federalist #78, Alexander Hamilton discusses the importance of
having a judiciary branch and the power of judicial review. An important
consideration throughout the decision of having judiciary review was appointing
the judges and deciding on the tenure in office. There was high concern about these
judges being unelected and serving for life. People thought this would lead to
them being more corrupt and less likely to base their decisions around what the
people really want and need. There would not be a huge check on them, and they
would never have to face re election, so would not have to focus on keeping
everyone happy with them in their position. However, Hamilton argued that being
unelected and serving for life was beneficial for these judges. Serving for life
provides them with the time and ability to become experts in what they do. If they
had to be switched out every so often, we would have judges becoming experts just
to be kicked out of their position and replaced with new, less informed judges who
would have to start the process of becoming an expert all over again. In keeping
them unelected, we avoid the influence of factions or other groups that could sway
their, or the public s, decisions on policies and who to elect into office. They also
will not be affected by the comings and goings of political parties, and will place
them above any current trending social issues. They do have to serve under good
behavior, however, lest they be impeached. Other

Modeling is the process of representing abstract ideas, words, and forms, through
the orderly use of simplified text and images. Models are classified as either
descriptive or predictive. Descriptive model presents abstract ideas, products, or

Adolf Hitler Good And Evil Essay
Good and evil is an ever present feature of human history. Their presence is reflected
through the ages in tales of great heroism and extraordinary villainy. Such tales

Despite Gutenberg s initial financial troubles, his invention was well on its way to
creating a more educated and actively outspoken society. Thus, it is in the printing
press that we can see not only the birthplace of modern education, but also the
beginnings of what is now an online cultural movement.
In essence, the printing press did half of what needed to be done to fully realize
the craze of the Internet that is blogging: that is, it gave literacy, literature, and the
notion of free thought into the hands of the people. Still, new and radical minds
fueled by contemporary literature required a means of proclaiming their ideas, and
while a standard education certainly taught people how to write, the second half of
the story behind blogging lies in the development of writing tools that cater to the
individual (for Gutenberg s press was more a machine of the publishing industry
than it was a tool in the conscious act of writing). The past few centuries since the
invention of printing have seen numerous advancements in the way people write,
and as the total change has been as drastic as from quill to QWERTY, the arrival of
typewriters and computers may be recognized as the most recent step forward in the
evolution of writing towards the blog.

Conflict Between The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria
Conflict due to differences in religious beliefs can be seen throughout the course of
human history. The most current of these conflicts lies between the Islamic State of
Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the United States of America. New York Times journalists
Mark Landler and Eric Schmitt recently wrote an article highlighting an event that
exemplifies this clash, specifically, the ISIS jihadists beheading a second journalist,
Steven J. Sotloff, and releasing an uncensored video to be viewed by the world. The
article highlights some of the complexities surrounding the killing, such as political
strategies, mainly on the American side, the tone of President Obama s response, and
as the legitimacy of the video. In addition to politics, Landler and Schmitt also write
on the military implications of Sotloff s death. The article quotes Daniel Benjamin, a
former counterterrorism coordinator, on the possibility of sending troops to Syria and
the pressure that ISIS has put on the United States. Likewise, they mentioned the
possibility of a bill being introduced to Congress to allow President Obama to order
airstrikes in Syria, though this is still tentative.
While the political and military implications of ISIS s actions are discussed in the
first half of the article, there is a noticeable shift to the emotional and moral
implications of the released video in the second half of the video. Landler and
Schmitt highlight the impact Sotloff s death had on his family. His mother is

Throughout history active military have constantly had experiences with

slowly become more recognized among the medical community due to an increase

that suffer from PTSD? Through my research I found multiple cases where a person

Based on this article s information I can see where some of the criteria actually

symptoms that were associated with the American Psychiatric Association s eight key

journey thru becoming proactive. Than we learn to realize where are we going
with our life. The next step is to set priorities in our life. What things are important
and what things can wait. We also learn how to achieve compromise that is
satisfactory to all parties involved in daily activities. The author teaches us how to
practice empathetic communications and the importance of the team work. Once all
of that is achieved we are reminded to renew ourselves thru elements of nature. The
first habit is Be Proactive . It says to take control over your own future, and... Show

Our relationships with others depend on our mentality of thinking. Many people
would like to receive the promotion or save their marriage but, they were not able
to properly interact with others. There are six paradigms of human interaction
(Covey, 1989). The fifth habit is to seek to understand, and then be understood.
That means that the listener should not just hear the other person, but try to
empathize with him. Most of the people can hear what others have to say; however
they don t listen to others, the message that other person is trying to relate goes by
them (Covey, 1989). The sixth habit is to synergize. The author is relating to work
in the teams. He states that the all team members are worth more that each of them
separately put together. The group depends on each other. The differences between
the people make the group stronger because of their differences. Every individual
has a different prospective (Covey, 1989). The last of seven habits is to sharpen the
saw. Most people tend to forget themselves and tend to stay in one place. Many of
the people tend to focus on the activities that are not relevant to their goals or values.
Every person should continue to grow using the four elements of nature. That
involves staying fit in physical condition. That can be achieved by proper nutrition
and daily exercises. Mental fit refers to reading and writing. Social element of nature
refers to servicing to others. The
Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner
Ordinarily, pieces of literature show scenes of violence. These events are not just
placed haphazardly; often times, these predicaments are intricately set to build the
meaning of the work. Wighout this kind of violence, some points in the novel would
be hard to comprehend. In Khaled Hoseini s The Kite Runner, multiple cases of
compulsion are demonstrated. Khaled Hosseiniuses symbolism and sense of mood
during these situations contribute to the understanding of his literary work. Chapter
seven of the novel opens somewhat normal, with two young boys, Amir and Hassan,
preparing for the annual kite running tournament. When the boys win the contest, an
air of jubilance and carelessness comes over Amir and Hassan. Hosseini describes the

Moreover, throughout his whole life, Amir feels the need to be repented for his
past mistakes. When Amir gets the notorious call from Rahim Khan and asked
upon his arrival to save Sohrab, Amir first denies but then accepts the fact that this
may be his only chance to redeem himself. Amir finally finds the place where
Sohrab is and is coincidentally confronted by Assef. The fight scene here is brutal,
and full of bloodshed. However, rather than feeling pain, Amir feels at peace ,
healed , and satisfied. Overall, the scene is relieving and peaceful, at least for
Amir. At the time, Amir s pain makes him feel happy by suffering. Though Assef
brings a mood of obscurity, Amir s recent catharsis brings about one of relief.
Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that he really isn t going to win; but,
winning was not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from Assef, he welcomed
the pain rather than running away from it as he did early on in the novel. Amir feels
as though this is the punishment that he deserved because of his unfaithfulness to
Hassan. This is the motive behind Amir s laughter during the fight. Upon going to
the hospital after the fight, the doctor tells Amir that he has a scar splitting his
upper lip, which ends up being similar to Hassan s. When Amir s scar surfaces, it
shows the equality between Amir and Hassan. His whole life, Hassan was seen of a
lower status because his family couldn t afford to get it
Hg Wells The Time Machine
Today in our generation technology is being more reliable into a better system
everyday, but what about our economic and political system? We face challenges
daily on how our system works and it is cloned that way. Physically and mentally the
United States has slowly dismantled the works of that system and H.G Wells tells his
story The Time Machineto that effect. His novel shows that every course he takes to a
different time, the world manipulates the unsettlement of even technology or the
political structure.
As the story delves into the first setting of the story, the narrator describes the place
he is at in london. Getting deeper into that mist he describes the decoration of the
house. No space for one to sleep or move around, how much ... Show more content on

More anxious than ever he wishes for more economic and political advantages. So,
going forward to the year 802,701 he realizes he is still in London. Only to face an
area that was no longer London. The land was full of grass and no life that he
could communicate with. From time to time he explains his thoughts including In
another place was a vast array of idols Polynesian, Mexican, Grecian, Phoenician,
every county on earth I should think. And here yielding to an irresistible impulse.
(Wells 14) His sight is genuine and everlasting. His impulses are unique, and he is
crazy insane at what he see s. More interesting is the oceans and the rivers had
totally moved over a mile over. More deep into the story he spots a drop of culture
and domination. As the traveller moves around the new despicable London, he
discovers these creatures called the Eloi s. Very beautiful and graceful, they were
with hectic beauty and China typed prettiness. They were not human like and did not
speak of the English ways. Two locations seemed important to them, which were the
Eloi s communal and the big house underneath the surface of the ground. Very high
in range of the other areas, down in the valley, there was another significant group
called the Merlocks. They looked liked human spiders and were vermin with damned
souls.

The Five Realms
CHAPTER TWO: The five realms
The five realms created by Khan in the beginning. Narrowind, Shif, Xeron, Inferno,
and the Outer Realm. Each realm is monumentouly different and meant to sustain the
beings that Khan wills into exsistence. Narrowind is the least magical of the realms,
and lies in between the others as a nullifier. It is where everyday humans and anmials
make there home. It is also where Sauna makes her home, blending in as just another
everyday human. Narrowind is split into five districts, numbered from 1 to 5.
District one is a harsh snowy land filled with mountains and caversn, while district
two is a large dessert like region, barren, and dawned by scorching heat. District
three is a land of water and undersea caverns. Districts four and five are the only

Khan, Su, and Neo. While there are others that dwell in the Unreality known to
some as the void, they live in the far conrners of the realm, careful not to disrupt
the power the three emit. The realm is a barren void of drifting chucks of memory
and the dispute between two distinct personalities. Su and Neo are contantly
pulsing the void with energy. The void has recently become a trade route between
sub species and has been used as means of travel as of recently as well. It dwells
above Stiff, at the top of exsistence.
Xeron is a vast jungle of magical beings and species. It is unexplored and
undeveloped, making it near impossible to navigate successfully. It homes creatures
of ancient magic and divine power. It is located below Narrowind and above Inferno.
The Inferno is hell. It is home of the Six Demon Lords and all other demons alike.
It is a firey realm of engulfing flame and death. The realm is led like a oligarchy. It
is held together by the Six Demon Lords with an iron fist. It is rumored to be where
the damned take their final breaths. It is located below Xeron, at the bottom of
Essay On Native American War
Many horrible atrocities occurred to the native people of America at the hands of
the settlers. Various crimes such as thievery, murder, and other very disgraceful
acts against these people without a second thought. Years since then, it is easy look
at what happened and realize what the white people did wrong, but in order to truly
understand, it is essential to know exactly the offenses are. Two quotes from two
chiefs speak depths without many words on what happened. This war did not spring
up on our land, this war was brought upon us by the children of the Great Father
who came to take our land without a price, and who, in our land, do a great many
evil things... This war has come from robbery from the stealing of our land, was an
eloquent and impactful statement from BrulГ© chief, Spotted Tail. As he said, the

That was only a decade that the USA kept their word. When gold was discovered in
the Black Hills in 1874, instead of protecting the Lakota territories from white
intruders like they had promised in 1868, the government worked to help the
miners already gathering along the trail they called, Freedom s Trail. The Lakotas,
however, referred to it as the, Thieves Road. Additionally, in 1887, the Dawes
Severalty Act went into place. That Act gave the President power to reduce the
amount of land held by the Indian nations across the country by allotting 160 acres
to the head of each Indian family and 80 acres to individuals. The leftover land was
sold to settlers. All of that was only land, but the white men also stole their buffalo
and children. Within 20 years the 20,000,000 buffalo that had roamed the plains
dwindled to a crisis point for the Natives. In the following 7 years after that, the
buffalo had perished, and the tribes that had depended on them were surviving on
handouts from the government. When Richard Henry Pratt decided to take young

I Needed For The State And The Restoration Of The
Monarchy
When it came to reforming her own government, she made sure to surround herself
with those that actually had the best interest of the territories in mind. Some of those
she credited with her success as a ruler were, Johann Christoph von Bartenstein,
Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Haugwitz, Emanuel Silva Tarouca, and Ignaz von
Koch. She wrote, Bartenstein and Haugwitz gave me what I needed for the State and
the preservation of the Monarchy. Tarouca and Koch supplied me with consolation,
counsel and private information for my own knowledge and correction. It was not by
pure luck that Maria Theresa was able to keep her kingdom alive during the
beginning of her unexperienced reign. At first, she was reluctant to make changes

Military Maria Theresa, as inexperienced as she was, was able to see the lack of
intelligence in the organization of her military forces, less than ten years into her
rule. She wrote, Each unit had a different order of marching, a different drill, etc.
One practiced rapid fire, another slow. The same words of command were
differently interpreted in each unit, and it is really no wonder that ten years before
my accession the Emperor as defeated every time, and the subsequent state of the
army beggars description. She was able to see, early on, that not only did she need a
better trained military force, but she also needed a larger force. Through calibration
with her advisors, mostly Haugwitz, she was able to obtain the men and money to
have an appropriate military force. Public Opinion
Maria Theresa was generally well liked as she accomplished much for her people. In
1749, in a letter addressed to Fräulein Thomasius, Luise Gottsched spoke of her
most amazing visit with Maria Theresa. She starts by saying, Yes, I have seen her, the
greatest among women. She who, in herself, is higher than her throne. She goes on to
explain the event of meeting the Empress and mentions the compliments Maria
Theresa gave to both Luise and her husband. Throughout the
The Symbolism of Ophelia’s Character Essay

The Symbolism of Ophelia s Character The name Ophelia has been most
commonly associated with William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, where she is
referred to as the title character s mad lover. She is believed to have killed herself
out of madness by drowning herself in a river. Interpretations about Ophelia s
character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity upon her father,
Polonius death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. However, despite her
supporting character in the play, her personality has roused numerous criticisms and
interpretations from philosophers and critics. This is probably due to the fact that
her role in the play is more of a descriptive character rather than a speaking ... Show

The costs of such religions refers to the madness and ultimately the death of
Ophelia. It can be presumed through Chapman s statement that the Catholic
religion puts more pressure down on Ophelia as she tries to overcome her
marriage problems and her sexual desires. Ironically though, instead of feeling
ashamed, Ophelia resorts to the old lauds to assure herself of peace and solace.
Therefore, it is also safe to conclude that it is her religion or piety which takes away
her fear. This is evident in the fact that she drowns just after she chanted such old
lauds . Erin Campbell provides a more psychological and sociological approach in
the character analysis of Ophelia. She argues that Ophelia suffers from hysteria, a
malady often ascribed to upper class women who bide their time in their fathers
homes while awaiting fulfillment of their culturally mandated roles as wives and
mothers (Campbell). Campbell proves her point by comparing Ophelia s character to
that of Quentin Compson who also drowned herself as a result of unrequited love,
patriarchal restrictions and losses. Truthfully, it is the social environment of Ophelia
which caused her madness. Feeling imprisoned and manipulated by the people around
her, she felt that
Isolationism In Into The Wild
Jon Krakauer is an author whose work primarily focuses on the wilderness and his
experiences. His novel, Into the Wild, divulges into the life of Chris McCandless
and his adventures into the wild Alaskan frontier. Chris seeks isolationism from his
family and society and goes as far as to change his name to Alex Supertramp so he
is not discovered or recognized by anyone. With mere long term survival
experience, Chris makes several minor mistakes and dies; unbeknownst to anyone.
After discovery, Krakauer devoted several years to Chris life story, going as far to
use his journalism background to interview any family, friends and coworkers Chris
encountered to synthesize a final overview of his life. Krakauer s relationship with
his own father... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Waterman, one of many characters introduced, grew up climbing the highest
peaks on the North American Continent, taught by his father at the young age of
thirteen. Few years later, however, Waterman s parents divorced and his mental
stability began to decline. His father refused to see or visit any of his three sons
causing John to feel the emotional repercussions. Much like the relationship with
Krakauer s own father and that of Chris and his, the influence, or lack of, strong
fatherly roles and familial ties John endured, greatly impacted his character.
Krakauer, again, tugs at the insanity card by specifically detailing interviews made
by fellow climbers and college friends of Waterman s peculiarly odd behavior, even
for Fairbanks, Alaska. He later elaborates upon Waterman s school board and
presidential campaigns, both based on ridiculous claims, promoting unrestricted sex
for students, legalization of hallucinogenic drugs, and ensuring nobody on the entire
planet died of hunger. He attempted several climbs as promotion, none seeming
successful, though, until tragedy struck and his elaborate journals burned completely
in a cabin fire. Afterwards, he admitted himself into a psychiatric institute for a brief
time. Krakauer shows resemblance between Chris and John claiming insanity for
both, most likely caused by such a tension with their fathers as
The Resource Based View Of A Company Essay
The resource based view of a company focuses on the internal resources and
capabilities of the company and includes the tangible and intangible assets that it
controls (Barney Hesterly 2015, p.64). Strategic evaluation is essential in guiding
a company on its mission and is a continuing process of planning, review and
control involving the appraisal of the company plan and the actual results (Rumelt
1998, p55, p.63). There are four broad criteria to test the company s strategies
potential flaws or failure to perform and these include consistent goals and
strategies, consonance , advantage and feasibility (Rumelt 1998, p56 7). The
quality of appraisal for a company s strategy can be improved by increasing the
capacity for self appraisal and organisational learning (Rumelt 1998, p.62). Single
feedback loops between expected and actual performance can result in controls to
bring the strategy back to normal (Rumelt 1998, p.62). The single feedback loop can
be improved by double feedback loop where a learning cycle is included to modify
the organisational norms that produced the change (Rumelt 1998, p.62). This allows
monitoring of the key variables and continuous modifications and improvements to
strategy when treatments are no longer working (Rumelt 1998, p.62). Strategy
valuation tools may focus on developing strategic alternatives, financial measures of
organisational performance and organisational aspects (Grant et al. 2014, p.401)

Starting Essay With A Quote. Beginning an essay with a quotation

  • 1. Starting Essay With A Quote Crafting an essay on the topic of "Starting an Essay with a Quote" might seem deceptively simple at first glance, but delving into the intricacies of this approach reveals a multitude of challenges. The initial hurdle lies in selecting a quote that not only aligns with the essay's theme but also captivates the reader's attention. Striking the right balance between relevance and intrigue is a delicate art that demands careful consideration. Once the quote is chosen, the next obstacle emerges in seamlessly integrating it into the essay's introduction. There's a fine line between a quote that enhances the narrative and one that feels forced or disconnected. Achieving a harmonious blend requires finesse in both language and structure, demanding a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of the essay's overarching message. Moreover, there's the challenge of ensuring that the chosen quote serves a purpose beyond mere ornamentation. It should function as a thought-provoking catalyst, setting the tone for the entire piece and inviting readers to ponder its implications. Achieving this depth requires not only a profound comprehension of the quote itself but also an ability to articulate its relevance to the essay's core ideas. Furthermore, navigating the potential pitfalls of relying too heavily on quotes can be daunting. The danger of overshadowing one's voice with the words of others looms large, making it imperative to strike a delicate balance between external wisdom and personal insights. Crafting an essay that seamlessly weaves quotes into its fabric without losing the author's unique perspective demands a high level of writing skill. In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic of "Starting an Essay with a Quote" may seem straightforward, it entails overcoming a series of intricate challenges. From the careful selection of a quote to its seamless integration and the nuanced balance between external wisdom and personal voice, this task demands a writer's utmost attention and skill. • 3. John Patrick Shanley s Doubt Douglas Light said that our imagination is better than any answer to a question. Light distinguished between two genres: fantasy from fiction. He described how fantasy stimulates one s imagination, which is more appealing, but fiction can just be a relatable story. In the same way, Books and movies are very different entities. In the short parable Doubt, the readers are lured in to the possibility of a scandalous relationship between a pastor and an alter boy. The readers curiosity is ignited because they are not given all the details. Therefore, their mind wanders further than the plot to create a story and characters that acted on one s imagination; thus, the story became entertaining flooded by the questions of what? Who? How? In no part of the play does it outright say that Father Flynn had any encounter with the alter boys other than during basketball practice and his apparent close friendship with Donald Muller. Yet, through the readers imagination, they assume scandalous scenarios between the Donald Muller and Father Flynn while still curious about what the truth is. The viewer was in constant doubt, of both characters intentions and motives. The parable is filled with indirect notions, assumptions, and gossiping. So why is this specific parable so entertaining? Its simple the reader used their imagination to piece together a relationship that at multiple times in the play cause them to doubt their own beliefs and consider the opposing possibilities. The play let you feel everything, know everything and live vicariously through the characters. With the play, you can Sister Aloysius, Father Flynn, or even Donald Muller; however, with the movie you are merely an observer. Books allow you to make up parts of the story(visuals and what people are like) while movies are more direct telling you what to see. The play involved more character devolement, so the reader was able to learn the

  • 5. English Piracy Trial Alfred Rubin, the prominent historian on English piracy law believes there may be some precedent for such a view. While acknowledging that the crown required special commissions to sail again pirates beginning in the sixteenth century, he contends that some jurists followed natural law. This approach meant that no such license was necessary to hang a pirate when delivering them to authorities was impractical. However, little evidence exists that this kind of frontier justice was anything beyond rumors and speculation. Once such account comes from Captain Charles Johnson s account of The Life of Captain Worley. Parliament passed The Treason Trials Act of 1696 in response to a series of treason cases brought against political opponents of the monarchs during the later Stuart dynasty in the 1670s and 1680s. This landmark legislation, which English policy officials spent over a decade negotiating, was a reaction to what contemporaries considered blatant judicial murder and gross crown intrusion into judicial proceedings. Judges, handpicked by the crown and dependent on royal favor for personal and professional status, fashioned a courtroom environment similar to piracy trials of the subsequent decades. With no jury of their peers, unrepresented defendants had little practical defense in the hostile environment that pre determined their guilt. The Treason Act was an attempt to try and correct the obvious deficiency in the court proceedings by chipping away at the prosecutions clear advantage. Specifically, defense witnesses were made compulsory, a power previously limited to the prosecution, and the court now accepted their testimony under oath. It provided the accused with an advanced copy of the indictment, and limited the evidence to charges listed therein. Most importantly, it guaranteed defendants the right to counsel during both the pre trial, and the trial itself for the first time. The drafters of the bill saw that treason trials presented distinctive problems that required special procedures, The seemingly unique features of treason prosecutions, previously emphasized the prosecutorial imbalance, the subservience of the bench, the complexity of the offense of treason appeared to contemporaries to demarcate the treason trial as a procedural world of its own, remote from ordinary crime. I contend these features were not unique to treason, but shared with
  • 6. The Importance Of Voting In Congress Topic Statement The public in America is disillusioned to believe that they run the government as they are on the top in the hierarchy of democracy. However in practice the incidents suggests that the rich are ruling the country while the general public is left with no choice but to follow the rules set in favor of the few. Ironically, there is an indifference towards this attitude in the general public as it is seen as a part of the American dream. The issue of if contributors to a particular politician buy the respective congressmen to vote in their favor is highly debatable. While certain groups believe that contributions are made to campaign of a particular politician because the donators believe in the cause and issues put forward by the candidate and want to support that cause. In the prose work The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790 93), he satirized oppressive authority in church and state, as well as the works of Emanuel Swedenborg, a Swedish philosopher whose ideas once attracted his interest. Blake s main concept was imagination and many people questioned if he was brilliant or just completely insane. William Blake was influenced by many great thinkers of his day, and was well aware of the conflicts that were arising between science and the arts in his era. In his work, he makes sure to define reason and explain how it differs from passions. He even assigned personalities to represent the conflicts and characteristics of these definitions in his poetry and art. There have been many men who loved to speculate the future. William Blake was one of these men, and if he spoke incoherently and obscurely, it was because what he spoke had never been discovered before. He announced the religion of art, which no man had ever done before him, and he understood it better than anyone else. He published his most popular collection, Songs of Innocence, in 1789 and followed

  • 12. Benefits of Cloning Essay Benefits of Cloning What if while walking down the street you encountered someone who looked exactly like you? Would you stare in amazement or would your heart be filled with fear? At first some people may look upon the idea of cloning with disgust and question themselves if humans should play God while others would be interested and study the many possibilities that cloning offers. This illustrates the path that cloning has taken over the latter part of the twentieth century. At first, when cloning was brought up in conversations, people tended to fearfully think of an army of identical persons marching across the earth in hopes of ruling humans. This and many other absurd notions of clones stem from science fiction movies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since then people think that biologists are cloning both human and other mammal s embryos only to see how far they can push the scientific envelope, but in fact there are many legitimate reasons for investigating cloning. Embryologists believe that research into cloning could help improve the life of future generations. Cancer research is possibly the most important reason for embryo cloning they argue. Oncologists believe that embryonic study will advance understanding of the rapid cell growth of cancer. Cancer cells develop at approximately the same phenomenal speed as embryonic cells do. By studying the embryonic cell growth, scientists may be able to determine how to stop rapid cell division, and also stop cancer growth in turn (Hyde 15). Another important area of embryo cloning research is embryonic stem cell development. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can develop into almost any type of cell in the body. These cells are not attacked by a person s immune system, because of their fast development and undifferentiated status (Wilmut 4). Many doctors believe that these stem cells could be used in treatments for brain and nervous system damage. Perhaps a more questionable use of cloned embryos is for spare parts and hormones. Production of transgenic farm animals to make organs to transplant in humans with organ failure has been heavily researched. Companies

Changes in blood flow due to decreased kidney function causes toxins to begin impairment of the kidneys since the liver cannot kill off the toxins before hand. This condition is considered secondary to portal hypertension for this reason. * Edema: abnormal accumulation of fluid (aka swelling). This is important for cirrhosis because when the tissue starts turning into scar tissue, the kidneys retain more salt. This increase in salt and water causes the visualized swelling. As time progresses, this swelling can affect abdomen area of the body, making edema secondary to hepatocellular failure since it is the tissue cell morphing that causes edema to manifest. * Esophageal Varices Bleeding: scarring of liver causes blood flow through the liver to decrease. With the decrease in liver blood flow, more blood pumps through veins causing them to balloon outward. The increased amount of blood in the veins results in a vein bursting and leads to bleeding. This condition is secondary to portal hypertension because of the alternate routes the blood takes due to the scarred liver, causing the veins to work harder and accumulate more blood within a certain span of time, not being able to drain in a timely matter. 2. Significance of the Toleration Act Essays Significance of the Toleration Act Religious intolerance was normal practice throughout the Middle Ages, the Reformation bringing with it much persecution. Christian Anti Semitism fuelled the religious insecurity prevalent in Europe but by the end of the sixteenth century Poland, the Dutch Republic and France had reached a state of tolerance , being in contrast to the religious intolerance still present in England at this time. The passing of the Toleration Act in 1689 appears to have been a close call, coming as it did during a particularly unstable period, making its conception all the more... As suggested in the passage above, the Act was resolutely against the unreligious who chose to go to the alehouse rather than mass and in fact sect 16 contains a strongly worded condemnation of such behaviour.... Provided always and it is the true intent and meaning of this Act, That all the laws made and provided for the frequenting of Divine Service on the Lord s Day....shall still be in Force, and executed against all persons that offend against the said Laws, except such persons that come to some Congregation or Assembly of Religious Worship, allowed or permitted by this Act. However, the Archdeacon s apprehension does not appear to be unfounded as in the years following the Act there was indeed an upsurge in the publication of heterodox views and a growth of popular irreligion [2]. The Toleration Act may not have wittingly given rise to a type of Atheism but it seems that the freedom to choose lost the Anglican Church its power to demand faith, losing it control over social and later

The psychodynamic methodology considers both nature and nurture while the behaviourist approach just considers the nurture side of the debate. On the other hand, the psychodynamic approach is not scientific as it is not testable, which makes it hard to falsify. This has grown to $20,000 per capita and South Korea is now the seventh largest trading partner with the United States (Background Note: South Korea, 2008). This growth in GNP is staggering considering that it took the United States 130 years to grow its Gross Domestic Product ten fold (1870 200) (Barro, 2003). Barro (2003) notes that this growth is fairly evenly distributed. This distribution of income has remained relatively unchanged from 1960 to today (Barro, 2003). Without a free speech, ideas would not be challenged, governments would not be kept in check, and citizens would not be free. John Stuart Mill said once that, If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person then he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind. This speech grew to action, which led Nazi leaders to implement the Final Solution, and the massacre of six million Jews. But what about hate crimes today in the United States, how are hate based murders different from a murder of a random individual. The answer to that question is in the brutality of the crime. Hate crimes are, for the most part, inherently more brutal because of deeply rooted ideals between two opposing groups. This brutality has led many, including former president Bill Clinton to call for legislation against hate crimes (Hellwege). Yet another important question to ask is, what exactly defines a hate crime? Is what Dr. Laura Schlessinger guilty of a hate crime when she says that individuals are entitled to respect and kindness as fellow human beings, when she publicly denounces homosexuality? (Leo). A logical person wouldn t think so. However, Dr. Schlessinger is coming under heavy scrutiny form gay rights groups protesting the good Doctors radio show and calling for her silence, or, at a minimum, an apology on the subject. Denouncing homosexuality pacifically should in no way be compared to the hostile descent of neo nazi hate groups. So should both hostile and pacifist discent be limited on the same scale? Pacifist descent should not be limited at all in any case, to do so would be a total suppression of free speech and hostile dissent should only be limited in certain extreme cases. This must be done

  • 30. Alexander Hamilton Revised Throughout Federalist #78, Alexander Hamilton discusses the importance of having a judiciary branch and the power of judicial review. An important consideration throughout the decision of having judiciary review was appointing the judges and deciding on the tenure in office. There was high concern about these judges being unelected and serving for life. People thought this would lead to them being more corrupt and less likely to base their decisions around what the people really want and need. There would not be a huge check on them, and they would never have to face re election, so would not have to focus on keeping everyone happy with them in their position. However, Hamilton argued that being unelected and serving for life was beneficial for these judges. Serving for life provides them with the time and ability to become experts in what they do. If they had to be switched out every so often, we would have judges becoming experts just to be kicked out of their position and replaced with new, less informed judges who would have to start the process of becoming an expert all over again. In keeping them unelected, we avoid the influence of factions or other groups that could sway their, or the public s, decisions on policies and who to elect into office. However, not a lot has changed since we began acknowledging PTSD as more than just depression or anxiety. PTSD has slowly become more recognized among the medical community due to an increase in the number of cases; are we to blame for that? Is there discrimination for people that suffer from PTSD? Based on this article s information I can see where some of the criteria actually apply to me, does this mean that I suffer from PTSD or are these points not actually valid ways of preforming the diagnosis that veterans should expect while they are being evaluated? As stated by David Dobbs in his article The PTSD Trap, The diagnostic criteria for PTSD... represent a faulty, outdated construct that has been badly overextended . . . routinely mistakes depression, anxiety, or even normal adjustment. (Dobbs 6) Through this article Dobbs explains the views of a Captain Stevens who aided in helping Iraqi GI s that were wounded daily from crossfire or other war related injuries. Stevens had experienced traumatic events every day, he understood what the Veterans Affairs were seeing, but he did not understand how they could tell who truly had PTSD as opposed to those who were suffering from depression or the anxieties of war. When soldiers who were thought to have PTSD arrived back to the states they were then evaluated to determine if they presented with symptoms that were associated with the American Psychiatric Association s eight key points that I mentioned above. If a soldier presented with them they were then sent for treatment to aid them in their battle against PTSD. I understand that this has been the standard for

Many people would like to receive the promotion or save their marriage but, they were not able to properly interact with others. There are six paradigms of human interaction (Covey, 1989). The fifth habit is to seek to understand, and then be understood. That means that the listener should not just hear the other person, but try to empathize with him. Most of the people can hear what others have to say; however they don t listen to others, the message that other person is trying to relate goes by them (Covey, 1989). The sixth habit is to synergize. The author is relating to work in the teams. He states that the all team members are worth more that each of them separately put together. The group depends on each other. The differences between the people make the group stronger because of their differences. Every individual has a different prospective (Covey, 1989). The last of seven habits is to sharpen the saw. Most people tend to forget themselves and tend to stay in one place. Many of the people tend to focus on the activities that are not relevant to their goals or values. Every person should continue to grow using the four elements of nature. That involves staying fit in physical condition. That can be achieved by proper nutrition and daily exercises. Mental fit refers to reading and writing. Social element of nature refers to servicing to others. The

Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that he really isn t going to win; but, winning was not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from Assef, he welcomed the pain rather than running away from it as he did early on in the novel. Interpretations about Ophelia s character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity upon her father, Polonius death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. The costs of such religions refers to the madness and ultimately the death of Ophelia. It can be presumed through Chapman s statement that the Catholic religion puts more pressure down on Ophelia as she tries to overcome her marriage problems and her sexual desires. Ironically though, instead of feeling ashamed, Ophelia resorts to the old lauds to assure herself of peace and solace. Therefore, it is also safe to conclude that it is her religion or piety which takes away her fear. This is evident in the fact that she drowns just after she chanted such old lauds . Erin Campbell provides a more psychological and sociological approach in the character analysis of Ophelia. She argues that Ophelia suffers from hysteria, a malady often ascribed to upper class women who bide their time in their fathers homes while awaiting fulfillment of their culturally mandated roles as wives and mothers (Campbell). Campbell proves her point by comparing Ophelia s character to that of Quentin Compson who also drowned herself as a result of unrequited love, patriarchal restrictions and losses. Truthfully, it is the social environment of Ophelia which caused her madness. Feeling imprisoned and manipulated by the people around her, she felt that

Much like the relationship with Krakauer s own father and that of Chris and his, the influence, or lack of, strong fatherly roles and familial ties John endured, greatly impacted his character. Krakauer, again, tugs at the insanity card by specifically detailing interviews made by fellow climbers and college friends of Waterman s peculiarly odd behavior, even for Fairbanks, Alaska. • 49. The Resource Based View Of A Company Essay The resource based view of a company focuses on the internal resources and capabilities of the company and includes the tangible and intangible assets that it controls (Barney Hesterly 2015, p.64). Strategic evaluation is essential in guiding a company on its mission and is a continuing process of planning, review and control involving the appraisal of the company plan and the actual results (Rumelt 1998, p55, p.63). There are four broad criteria to test the company s strategies potential flaws or failure to perform and these include consistent goals and strategies, consonance , advantage and feasibility (Rumelt 1998, p56 7). The quality of appraisal for a company s strategy can be improved by increasing the capacity for self appraisal and organisational learning (Rumelt 1998, p.62). Single feedback loops between expected and actual performance can result in controls to bring the strategy back to normal (Rumelt 1998, p.62). The single feedback loop can be improved by double feedback loop where a learning cycle is included to modify the organisational norms that produced the change (Rumelt 1998, p.62). This allows monitoring of the key variables and continuous modifications and improvements to strategy when treatments are no longer working (Rumelt 1998, p.62). Strategy valuation tools may focus on developing strategic alternatives, financial measures of organisational performance and organisational aspects (Grant et al. 2014, p.401) 4.2Evaluative Models The
