The Holocaust Was A Mass Murder
The Holocaust was a mass murder in which about six million Jews were murdered
under the command of Adolf Hitler. This took place throughout German occupied
territories from 1939 to 1945. Before taken to concentration and death camps, Jews
were placed into ghettos, which were set up in order to confine and segregate them
into small towns or cities. The main notion for this action was to dehumanize the Jews
and to rid them of the human population. If Adolf Hitlerhad not come up with the idea
of placing Jews into ghettos, then the Holocaustwould not have been violent as it was.
Jakob the Liar is set in Poland of 1944, and a Jewish man is caught outside after
curfew. Because of this, he was then shipped to the ghetto headquarters. While
waiting for a German officer, he overhears a forbidden radio broadcast about Russian
troops planning a fluctuation. Once within the ghetto, he shares the new information
with a confident, but a rumor is soon spread across the ghetto saying there is a
secret radio inside the ghetto. Eventually, there is a new sense of hope in the ghetto
and he realizes it helps everybody get through the day knowing there is a chance of
being liberated. When German troops find out of these rumors, they become sure
there is a Jew who has secret communication hidden somewhere, and are determined
to find out who and what. The movie Jakob the Liar relates to my topic in many
ways. In this film, many events occurred throughout that has dealt with how the ghetto
The Effects of the Equal Pay Act of 1963
Running head: THE EFFECTS OF THE EQUAL PAY ACT OF 1963 1
The Effects of the Equal Pay Act of 1963
Abstract On June 10th, 1963, John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act, which
prohibits wage discrimination based solely on gender. Despite the passing of this
bill, women today are still not earning equal pay for equal work. Currently, the
Equal Pay Act of 1963 states that an employer in any business cannot discriminate
between employees based on gender by paying wages less than an employee of the
opposite sex. There are many causes of the gender pay disparity, many can be
explained away by level of education, experience, and job tenure. It is the job of a
human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A reason for the gender pay gap is the fact that women tend to put their jobs on the
back burner in order to raise a family. Women tend to choose to fall from the
workforce or only work part time after having one or more children. Women are
therefore sacrificing their prime years of earning potential to carry out domestic
THE EFFECTS OF THE EQUAL PAY ACT OF 1963 5 responsibilities. This causes
their pay to suffer in comparison to a man s wages. Because their work has been
intermittent, there are sizable wage penalties resulting from a diminished level of
education, experience, and job tenure.
Another potential cause of wage disparity is the type of position chosen by men and
women. Men are usually considered the bread winners of the family (although this is
changing over time) and tend to choose higher paying positions, whereas women
tend to choose a care giving profession and positions that have lower financial risk,
which end up being less financially rewarding.
Does the Equal Pay Act of 1963 effect men as well as women? Yes. The reason that
men may be affected by wage disparity is one that they may not realize. Men tend
to expect more money in being hired by a company than women. This may lead to a
business hiring a woman over hiring a man because the woman actually asked for a
lower salary. This could lead to
Sight In All The Light We Cannot See By Anthony Dooer
Sight is an amazing thing, isn t it? Well, some people don t have that luxury due to
the fact that it has either been taken away from them, or they didn t have it in the
first place. Quite a few stories utilize the idea of a person without sight , whether it
be metaphorical or literal, but the majority of writers stay away from the subject due
to how different it is to writing without it. A few authors, however, do the exact
opposite and have several characters lose their literal or metaphorical sight . In the
novel, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Dooer, several characters have their
literal or metaphorical sight taken away from them by various means, including the
characters Frederick, Werner, Marie Laure, Madame Manec, and Etienne.
One such character is Frederick, who went to the same program that Werner did.
He lost his sight due to being beaten up by other boys at the program and ended up
with brain damage. In the book, the reader does not see his childhood, so the reader
has to infer the basics from what we can see during his trips home. What the reader
knows about his family before he was sent to the program is that his mother was
very rich, his father was very involved in politics, and that he was in love with
birds due to their freedom, which he did not have. What the reader knows about his
own life was that he was very shy, he idolized the Audubon society and their love for
birds, and that he was bullied in school. Before he had brain damage, he used
Cicero On Duty Essay
Cicero s definition of duty is a term in which in this course, is far reached than what
we would have ever thought duty would stand for. Defining duty can be said to be a
commitment or obligation to someone or something that causes them to pursue a
certain action. Duty is split into two parts which consist of dealing with what is the
supreme good and second, practicing rules which are strictly regulated in all means
of daily life. Another classification of duties are duties which are middle or complete.
Complete dutyis link to being what is right . Middle duty is the reasoning behind
why has it been done. When Cicero writes about individual activism we consider the
duties that are honorable and dishonorable. What is honorable or... Show more

Other principles is that of carrying a great spirit. It would help you have courage in
your actions and for that reason you will hold honor towards yourself. When Cicero
writes about the reasons for why people have duties towards the public sphere he
believes that the individual is part of the community. He contributes it all the to belief
of Stoicism. Aristotelian is another close source in which we can speak about
duties, but Cicero s true belief was that virtues is key to duty. Stoicism is the
school of thought that holds the belief that the only way we can make sense of our
own existence is by devoting ourselves to virtues. People who follow this pathway
believe that the majority things of daily life are stuff we can t control, but yet we
can contribute our life to society in a better way. Honor is another reason why
individuals choose certain choices that lead you to be seen as a noble person in your
society. The wide picture is seen towards how the community sees the individuals
actions according to the standards in which have been placed. It doesn t seem like
an individual would ever perform a duty if honor wasn t the reward. An individual
who doesn t care for much pleasure would mostly likely seek out honor in the public
sphere. In conclusion Cicero comes up with the belief that the main stance on duty
should always be honor, because honor is the only
My Experience At The First Time
Sitting in class for the first time, it was half of what I expected. I expected to sit by
people I didn t know, learn about old things in new lights, and writing a lot of
papers. What I didn t expect was me hating college. I am not as creative as some
teaches would like, but that isn t my personality, and I dint wantit to be either. I fully
expected college to try and morph me into a perfect little student that I knew I
wasn t. College so far to me hasn t been fun and I will treat it like Wal Mart. When
I say that, I mean that I will get in and get out as fast as possible. If I pick up stuff
along the way then alright, but if I don t, then it won t kill me.
Now, this doesn t mean I don t enjoy certain things about college. I enjoy some of
my classes and I like that the campus has a variety of plants. I also like that it has
some nice people and is accompanied with a Student Bible Center. Many people say I
just need to loosen up, get over it, or try to get in organizations around campus. This
may be true when talking about some students, but not me. I know exactly who I
am and what I like and I for one do not like joining organizations, I am not a loose
person and I never will be, and I have already gotten over that I don t like college.
I have read a lot of material in college and very few of them were interesting. I have
learned a lot of old things in new light in history and some material taught me to
ignore different people. Now, that may not have been the purpose of

He once stole gold from his brother and wrote an apology letter that touched his
father s heart. His father did not punish, but embraced him. This made Mohandas
realize that truth and love had power. After his father passed away, he went to
England to study law. He went under three conditions of his mother: not to touch
meat, alcohol, and women. He had a difficult time. He did not fit in with the
British. He changed himself by wearing more modern clothes and taking classes
such as dance. He found a society that was vegetarian and joined. He also found a
vegetarian restaurant and had his first full meal since he arrived. He finished
school and his exams. He then returned to India and realized that he had studied
law, but had not learned how to practice it. He did not have knowledge about
Indian law and worse of all, lacked ability to speak in public. He wasn t able to speak
in his first court case. Gandhi took an offer to work for a firm in South Africa. The
firm needed someone with the knowledge of English language and law to represent
them for a year.
He went to South Africa and while he was riding on the train, a white man entered
the first class compartment in which Gandhi was sitting in and looked at him then
left. He returned with two officials who told him to go to the third class car.
Gandhi claimed he had a first class ticket and refused to leave. Indians weren t
supposed to be in the first class area and Gandhi had to be thrown off.

Stopping Victimology while Educating Others When interacting in a group
environment what makes some individuals more prone to bullying behavior and
others more likely to be the victim? These terms and actions once defined and
understood can be itemized to break down the cycle of bullying. Understanding the
root causes of bullying and what behaviors define bullying is a good first step in
educating individuals not only what defines a bully but what steps can be taken to
diminish bullying behavior and what can be done to protect a reduce the damage
done to the victims of bullies. If we can identify the factors that go into creating a
bully and the traits that victims share, then by education there can be a lessening of
both in society. This education needs to start at a young age and can help to lessen
the occurrence.
Bullying Definition When looking, at what makes a bully and what makes a
victim finding the actions and events that make these labels fit to an individual is a
process Bullying can come in several different forms, it can be a power imbalance
that is created between two individuals the victim and the aggressor or the bully, this
power imbalance is real or supposed (Olweus, 1993). According to research done by

Shakespeare s Othello
Desdemona in Othello
In William Shakespeare s tragic drama Othello, the wife of the protagonist is
Desdemona. She is a lovely, intelligent, wholesome and pious person. This essay will
analyze her.
In Act 1 Scene1, Iago persuades the rejected suitor of Desdemona, Roderigo, to
accompany him to the home of Brabantio, Desdemona s father, in the middle of the
night. Once there the two awaken him with loud shouts about his daughter s
elopement with Othello. In response to Iago s vulgar descriptions of Desdemona s
involvement with the general, Brabantio arises from bed and, with Roderigo s help,
gathers a search party to go and find Desdemona and bring her home. The father s
attitude is that life without his Desdemona ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus it would seem that Desdemona has been living her life with a father who is
primarily interested in self and less in Desdemona. And yet she has emerged
unscarred psychologically, and capable of deep love for Othello.
Entrusted to the ancient s care and that of his Emilia, Desdemona arrives at the
seaport of Cyprus. While waiting there for Othello s ship, she grows tired of Iago s
derogatory comments directed at his wife, and she quite matter of factly states her
mind: O, fie upon thee, slanderer! and even directs Iago s focus off of Emilia and
onto her ownself: What wouldst thou write of me, if thou shouldst praise me? Her
total forthrightness and courage show her to be the daughter of a senator! She
continues to critique the ancient s answers to her questions: These are old fond
paradoxes to make fools laugh i the alehouse and O heavy ignorance! thou praisest
the worst best. She is not fearful or reticent in the least.
Once that her husband has safely arrived on the island and disembarked, she greets
him publicly, and later responds before the crowd to his loving address to herself:
The heavens forbid
But that our loves and comforts should increase,
Even as our days do grow! (2.1)
She is showing herself to be a most wise and feeling wife. It is this tenderness that
Cassio appeals to after Iago has entangled him in
Sexual Harassment on The Office
The Office was an NBC Mockumentary that for nine years followed the day to day
operations of a mid range paper supply company called Dunder Mifflin. The office
manager was an eccentric, at times wildly misunderstood man named Michael Scott.
Throughout his time as office manager, Michael led his employees through the gamut
of human emotions. In some situations, in the real world, many of the situations that
Michael found himself in may have ended with him on the receiving end of a
lawsuit. Michael had a particularly challenging time resisting the urge to sexually
harass his employees, not just the female employees, but the male ones as well. Due
to the numerous inappropriate incidences that Michael caused in his own office, I
feel strongly that Michael Scott was not fit to be the officemanager at Dunder Mifflin.
Sexual Harassment is any repeated unwanted behavior of a sexual nature perpetrated
by one person upon another. Workplace sexual harassment is a topic that has been
discussed in depth over the past six decades. The Civil Rights act of 1964 saw the
beginning of the end for the normalization of sexual harassment in the workplace.
The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has allowed for strict
penalties for those found guilty of workplace sexual harassment, punishments range
from probation to termination. In todays climate, workplace sexual harassment is
something that employers take very seriously. According to a Catalyst Workplace

The Death Of Meriwether Lewis
The Death of Meriwether Lewis
Meriwether Lewis was one of the travelers that were given the mission of traveling
from the colonies to the Pacific Ocean, The Mission of Discovery . After Lewis got
back from the expedition, he was assigned the role of Governor of The upper half of
the Louisiana Purchase. When he was appointed to this position, he didn t instantly
go to do the job though. Actually he spent about half a year trying to publish the
notes he wrote down during the Mission of Discovery. That didn t work out though
because of financial funds. So Lewis came back to Washington D.C. and got ready
to go to his part of the Louisiana territory. But on the way there he stopped at an inn

In the position that Lewis supposedly shot himself at wound. Lets say he shot
himself in the in the abdomen. This shot would also have been fatal because it
would rupture something in his abdomen which would also would have been fatal.
Therefor it doesn t matter if Lewis shot himself in the head first or the abdomen.
They both would have been fatal. The amount of power that the horse pistols can
generate shows that Lewis would not have been able to shoot himself twice. One
shot would have immobilized him. If it was someone else shooting him that would
make sense that there were two wounds, because someone else could have shot him.
But Lewis shooting himself twice just isn t reasonable due to the amount of damage
and the amount of power the guns would give. That is why Meriwether Lewis was the
victim to a murder conspiracy.
Also there is the information from Major James Neelly. Major Neelly was sending a
letter to President Thomas Jefferson about the death of Meriwether Lewis. Major
James Neelly was charged with treason and is a very sketchy person. There has
been people who suspect Neelly to be part of the the murder conspiracy. Neelly
was one of the companions that went with Lewis when he was traveling to his part
of the Louisiana Purchase. It says that before they got to the inn the horses ran
away and Neelly went to go catch them. At the time of the death of Lewis, Neelly
was supposedly in court in a city about 60 miles away. At the time 2 days by horse.
Essay on Comparison Of Job And Odysseus
The agency of Job and Odysseus is controlled by God and the gods. Neither Job nor
Odysseus have agency when the gods are against them. The relationship between the
divine and human agency is a well established one in both the ancient Hebrew and
ancient Greek cultures. Many acts that could be attributed to human agency are often
credited to gods, especially human errors or misdeeds. Humans try to forfeit a good
deal of their agency to the gods willingly. Nevertheless the gods have no reservations
about revoking agency from humans. Neither Job nor Odysseushad agency when a
godwas against them.

Job has, if this is possible, an even lesser degree of agency after Satan afflicts him
with sores. Before this, though he suffered great loss, he still maintained the
ability to direct himself by means of his physical body. Now however, God, by
placing Job in Satan amp;#8217;s power, removes that part of his agency. He is
too miserable to move and because of this, he has no choice but to listen and argue
with the comforters. For all we know, if Job had been able to walk away, he might
have. However, he was not able to leave because his agency was now limited by the
random events of destruction and his physical debilitation.
Job is a man very limited by God. As illustrated, he has only a negligible amount of
agency to begin with. By the time God and Satan finish with him, he has virtually
no control over his own life. The fragment of agency he does cling to is his ability
to choose whether or not to curse God. No one, except himself, could prevent Job
from cursing God. Yet, he refuses to curse God, even though He is responsible for his
suffering.
Odysseus is very much a part of his own loss of agency. It stems from his encounter
with Poseidon amp;#8217;s son, Polyphemos. Until then, it was clear that Odysseus
was in control of his life, as much as any man can

Benefits of Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients Essay
Introduction Random drug screening involves the experimental analysis that utilizes
specimens such as saliva, hair, blood or urine in order to determine the presence of
certain drugs or their metabolites. These tests are usually done to ascertain the
presence or absence of prohibited drugs or steroids. On the other hand, the state
welfareassistance/ government assistance is a government funded program that
was started in 1930 during which period US citizens and the rest of the world were

Moreover, other people argue that some individuals are staying out of marriages so
that they can be assisted. Keeping these sentiments in mind, it is imperative that the
random screening exercise be considered as a requirement for those seeking to be
assisted through the state welfare assistance program.
Random Drug Testing This is not a new technique as it has been around for
sometime though in a different setting. Currently, most Americans working in
either the private or the public sector must undergo a urinalysis test in order to
keep their present jobs or get a new one (The Lectric Law Library par.2). This test
is carried out in order to assess whether the worker is using drugs in order to
evaluate the job performance of that particular worker. However, this exercise has
faced a number of obstacles particularly law suits that have seen many federal courts
rule out these practices in the workplaces. They are considered unconstitutional
except when there is a reasonable suspicion on a particular individual who can then
be forced to undertake the tests. Despite these obstacles many people believe that the
employers have a right to assess the performance of their employers in order to
safeguard their investments. Moreover, innocent employees need not worry if they
have nothing to hide about their personal lives since the tests do not pose any life
threatening experiences (The
How Does Jack London Show The Power Of Nature
The Effectiveness of Assumption
The power of nature is not something humans can overcome. Nature shows its power
through harsh weather, and we must be smart about it. The message Jack London
creates in this piece of writing is that pride cannot overcome nature; nature will have
its way. The man shows too much pride to listen to others about the dangerous
temperatures but only listens to himself as it costs him his life. In To Build a Fire
Jack London shows us how dangerous it is to assume victory in the the battle of man
v. nature.
In the beginning, the man assumes he wouldn t get cold from nature but in fact ends
up so frigid that he is in desperate need of building a fire. It grew like an avalanche,
and it descended without warning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, there was no keen intimacy between the dog and the man. The
one was the toil slave of the other, and the only caresses it had ever received were
the caresses of the whiplash. (Fire 609) This shows the man not caring about the
dog s actions. The man thought of the dog as just a follower who didn t have a say
in anything because he was nonhuman. And all the while the dog sat and watched
him [build the fire], a certain yearning wistfulness in its eyes, for it looked upon
him as the fire provider, and the fire was slow in coming. (Fire 617) This is where
the mistake of not listening to the dog earlier comes into play. The man could have
not had to go through the struggle of surviving if he had listened to the dog in the
first place.
London warns us not to be too proud when dealing with frigid, lonely nature. We need
to listen to others who have experience, even if that other isn t human. The man in To
Build a Fire would still be alive if he had done this. The man never got the chance
to learn his lesson as his life was cut short with death. With the help of others along
the way, you can become a greater human being through the choices you make. An
ego that makes you feel the need to over achieve in life could result in the worst
possible outcome in whatever field of view you are striving

a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine Corps helmet. Because of the

premier fighting force, there were still rumbles among officials. The original
culprits of the war against the Marines were the senior officers in the US Army.
This started immediately after WW I. During the build up for WW II Army

Magical Beasts Throughout the series of Harry Potter, many creatures appear in the
books and put into greater detail in the movies. Were these famous magical creatures
made up or compared to something similar in mythology and folklore? There are
many famous creatures throughout the story that add curiosity to one?s mind when
first reading about one. The feeling one may get is to be able to see what this
creature is capable of doing in comparison to others. In each book and movie, there
is usually a creature that Harry, Ron, and Hermione have to overcome, such as the
Basilisk in the second movie. The creatures from Harry Potter that are portrayed in
folklore are similar in many ways, yet different in others. Some creatures were
actually made up, but the most known ones, such as Fluffy and Fawkes, are
actually compared to other similar creatures. Most of these magical creatures or
sometimes referred to as ?beasts?, come from Greek and Roman mythology as
well as European mythology. The characteristics from some of the folklore
creature were kept the same while others were completely changed. One of the
most popular Harry Potter creatures is Fluffy, the three headed dog. The creation of
Fluffy was influenced by a creature in Greek mythology known as Cerberus.
Cerberus was a three headed beast who guarded the underworld for Hades while
Fluffy was a three headed dog that guarded a trap door that led to the philosopher?s
Examples Of Goodness In All The King s Men
Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it,
he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is not complicated but
it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own goodness and act
on it. Pablo Casals
Goodness is usually defined as a quality of being kind, honorable or virtuous.
Though it can be subjective, there is a major question that goes along with ideas of
good and bad; what is goodness? Throughout the book, All the King s Men by Robert
Penn Warren, this concept of good versus bad intentions and morals can be seen in
many of the characters. Through Willie Stark, Adam Stanton, and Jack Burden,
Warren reveals how goodness is an abstract concept, and how goodness does not
mean the same thing to everyone.

Whether they believe that they are doing good, or simply don t care about whether
their actions are right or not, it is always under the surface of each major moment in

their actions may not have reflected this. Jack went through a change of ethics,
revealing the meaning of goodness in the book. The core of what makes someone a
good person is not only the actions that they take, but is also the intention behind the
action. Many times throughout the book characters make decisions that they believe
to be right, even if the results don t turn out to benefit anyone else. These decisions
show Warren s beliefs on goodness, that it is ultimately subjective to each character

actions can also be made with intentions that are only good in the minds of those

Competitive advantage is the most important aspect of any successful business.
Competitive advantage has an ever changing finish line and companies must ensure
that the continually improve their competitive advantage. Businesses must have a
generic strategy that is reflected in the cost or differentiation of their product or
service. The value proposition must solve a problem that the customers have and
must be something that customers are willing to pay for. The value proposition will
determine the resources and processes that the company will use and in turn, affect
the profit business model which will need to provide profit to the company above the

Customer Needs and Competitive Advantage
Eleanor s strategy for competitive advantage is to incorporate a one stop shop type
of beauty service to improve and grow her business operation, to help her increase
revenue, and to bring the business into the 21st century. With Organics Salon
currently losing business by turning customers away during high demand periods,
her main focus will be on customer lock in which can be accomplished by
providing alternative services for customers while they wait. Currently Organics
Salon customers have high buyer s power so when they are turned away due to
overcrowding, customers can easily go to competitors for services. Additional spa
services can help to keep customers occupied while they wait for their hair service,
increase revenue, and reduce the rejection of customers. Customers will also be able
to purchase the salon s products for at home use.
The sole use of natural, organic, and environmentally friendly products should also
increase Eleanor s competitive advantage as it doesn t reject current customers but
provides a solution for customers who prefer the use of only natural products in their
hair or on their skin. This in turn should help to reduce

War of Superiority The tensions discovered in the French Quarter in A Streetcar
Named Desire are characteristic of the entire country in that time period. A Streetcar
Named Desire tells of struggle between heritage, money, and gender in the early
twentieth century. Written in 1947, the author Tennessee Williams had personal
relations to these conflicts as he grew up surrounded by them. In one of his works, A
Streetcar Named Desire, he addresses these societal problems with the competition
between the characters Blanche, a melodramatic romantic, and Stanley, a stubborn
realist. The list of differences between these characters could not be longer, but this
makes the perception of their similarities all the more significant. Surprisingly, these
conflicting characters demonstrate similarities in that they: believe they are superior

disregard for others perception. Stella generally ignores these statements, but an
eavesdropping Stanley takes these insults to fuel his own retaliation. This quote
also shows that Blanche ranks her opinion over all else, and to her it is not an
opinion but a hard fact. Stanley also follows this characteristic in his everyday life.
As an Alpha Male type figure, Stanley always meets conflicts with violence and
will fight with every ounce of his being for what he believes no matter the

Neisseria Meningitidis Research Paper
Neisseria meningitidis, also known as meningococcus, is a human pathogen that
causes severe infections in the menings that surround the brain and spinal cord. There
is a 50% fatality rate if the infections are not treated on time. (1)
(2)N.meningitidis belongs to the family Neisseriaceae. When it was first being
identified in 1887, the scientists found Neisseria meningitidis as a fastidious,
encapsulated, non spore forming, non motile, non acid fast aerobic gram negative
diplococcus bacterium. It appears in kidney bean shape under the microscope and it
is 0.5 1 micrometer in size. The bacteria need an environment with about 5% CO2
for normal growth. The preferred incubation temperature is around 35 37В°C. The
capsule that N. Meningitidis has is not only an important virulence factor, but also
is used to distinguish the twelve serogroups of the pathogen. Each serogroup
possesses different pathogenicity, immunogenicity, and epidemic capabilities. Four
of the serotypes (A, B, C, and W 135) are responsible for most of the epidemics in
the world. Serotype A is most commonly seen in Africa and Asia; whereas Serotype
B can be mostly found in America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Oppression Of Prisoners In Plato s Cave
The critical idea is that the prisoners in the cave have no idea on the reality, and all
they see is a shadow representation of it. The foundation of the allegory lies on Plato
s view and belief that there is unseen truths and reality lying underneath the apparent
surface of things, and only the most determined and enlightened individuals can
grasp. The individuals who grasp these invisible truths deserve to be rulers and
leaders of the ordinary people. Being used to the confinement of the cave, the
prisoners are quick to resist enlighten in the similar manner students resist education
at first. The chained and uneducated prisoners in the cave portray ordinary people
who regard material objects and the world as real, genuine, and important.

way of being an international big city.
Last by not least, the finding of Singapore also can be seen as the remaining effect
of 14th century trading emporium in Temasek (Singapore). Connecting the
booming civilizations of Asia China, India and Middle East, Melaka Strait s trades
were greatly affected by those countries, and Temasek, as a gateway of hinterland

With the growing trades between China, India and Southeast Asia and their

The Disney movie Pocahontas was released in 1995 and was directed by Mike
Gabriel and Eric Goldberg. The film depicts the life of a young Native American
woman known as Pocahontas and the hardships she comes to face as she develops a
relationship with an English settler whose original plan was to take stronghold of
their land. Pocahontas utilizes the dramatic progression of exposition, complication
/rising, action and resolution. In addition, the film is organized in a series of cuts and
angles to develop an aesthetically pleasing movie.
Pocahontas introduces crucial background information such as the different
settings, characters, etc. This is primarily done through the use of dialogue. An
example of this would be the lyrics of the song in the beginning of the film, which

For this scene, the directors utilized a panoramic style camera angle, where the
camera rotates horizontally across Virginia. The use of a panorama displays the
vastness of the undiscovered and untainted land before the invasion of the English
settlers. In addition, panning creates a smooth transition between the different cuts in
the movie. It creates a match cut, where two similar shots are joined together, making
the transition hidden from the viewers.
In addition, the directors also include an aerial view camera angle in this scene,
which gives the impression of a bird flying above the vast landscape. In contrast to
the panorama, this camera angle provides a greater distance between the land and
the camera while the panorama was much closer. Instead of seeing just the crops and
the trunks of the trees, the aerial perspective allows the viewer to see the entire
farmland as well as the entirety of the trees and flowing
Should The Government Surveillance Of Privacy
The government has always keep their surveillance high on all citizens whether it s a
big treat or a small treat. The big question is whether someone s privacy shall be
protected over national security. When the government collects information and goes

leads to problems whether the privacyover someone s information is more important
than national security.
A lot of people don t care about privacy and will always argue that if you got

something that is granted to the people so the government doesn t have too much

The American Dream in Ru
Throughout Kim ThГєy s Ru, the American Dream is very common. Kim Thuy s

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Poetry
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s poetry was particularly prevalent while she was
alive. Sonnets from the Portuguese proved to be her most popular work. Browning
was born Elizabeth Barrett on March 6, 1806; she was the firstborn of 11 siblings.
Her life was closely guided by her father, Edward Moulton Barrett. Browning was a
talented reader, though she never attended any formal education, and the young
woman began writing poetry very early. At the age of thirteen, her father had her epic
the Battle of Marathon published. At the age of fifteen, Browning contracted a

the rest of the poet s life. Elizabeth Barrett s relationship with poet Robert Browning

what remains is the pure essence. Radley places such emphasis on the comparison of
divine and impure love because Browning asserted that all love is purified in
R-410a Vs Air Conditioning
Air conditioning is an everyday appliance used by all homes and businesses today.
It works by utilizing a system of fans and heating/cooling element called freon that
comes in two types; R 22 and R 410a, R 410a being the newest type of refrigerant
that has the advantage of being better for the environment. Despite this, R 410a is not
as effective as R 22 in heating/cooling. Air conditioning installations also come in
various sizes such as 2 5 ton installations. For instance, 2 ton units will be used in
small homes and apartments. Larger 5 ton units will be used for larger installations
such as warehouses and offices. Additionally multiple smaller installations could be

The condenser, heater, and compressor are placed on the outside of the house. The
condenser houses the heater core and compressor, and can usually be identified by
the fan and square, boxy shape. Now that we have the descriptions of each main
component discussed, let s go in deeper. We know that the blower inside the house
supplies the air through the air shafts, but what do the other parts do? Well the
condenser has a chamber called the compressor that houses the freon, and for the
freon to have some effectiveness the freon that may get hot being outside of all the
time, will get warm up and get hot. Air conditioning units are usually supposed to
supply cool air, so if the freon gets warm, the fan on the condenser kicks on and
cools the compressor. Freon circulates throughout the system from the compressor,
to the cooling coil adjacent to the blower, from there the freon lines return to the
condenser and pass through the heater core and finally returning to the compressor.
Freon is very sensitive to the balance of freon present in the system, too much will
be too hot, and too little will be too cold. So balance is

buses, ships, airplanes, and any other means of transportations, which help people

In ancient times, people only walk if they wanted to go to a different place, while
others are using horses to make the journey faster. However, not all of them are rich
enough to have a horse. As time passes by, few people were born with gifted minds
and were able to discover and invent the train. And without people noticing, new
technologies were introduced in different aspects such as communications,

Comparing and Contrasting Casino Royale and The Spy

My essay is going to be about the similarities and differences between Casino
Royale and The Spy Who Loved Me . I Will explore all aspects of each film
including, Bond, the Bond girls, the villain and enemy, special effects and the mise

The opening scenes are both similar yet different in both films. Casino Royale starts
off with free running, a modern sport that makes the audience want to keep
watching. It is dangerous, new age and suits the film itself. It is also a sport which
isn t something you can just try out at home, it needs a lot of skill and endurance.

In TSWLM , Bond appealed more to the male audience as he was brave, clever and
mischievous. Whereas in CR bond appealed to both the male and female audience.
This is because Daniel Craig who acts Bond in CR is more sexy and sensitive in
the film compared to the actor playing bond in TSWLM . But as well as appealing
to the women he also still appeals to the male audience too because although he has a
sensitive side he still has an adventurous and dangerous side to him too.
And so the character of bond is portrayed different in both films. Although his
character may change his role as Bond himself is still likewise. The role of bond is
basically a man who fights villains and saves the day. He is a secret agent working
for MI6. If you were to look for a character to play Bond the kind of things you would
look out for in the actor would be as follows: tall, unique looking, fit and healthy,
young and an actor who has a low profile so he would then be a type cast of Bond.
The Bond girls are very stereotypical and are similar in both films in many ways. The
typical role of a Bond girl is to be sexy and attractive and to be like a sidekick to
Bond. The Bond girls aren t supposed to be just a pretty face though. Beneath the
beauty, they are also expected to be intelligent women that help Bond in his missions.
Although both Bond girls have many similarities, they also have many differences
which have played a big part in the change of the target audience. Vesper, the

discovery. The most familiar and general plot found is the genre is a simple one: an
unknown situation or event is presented and, through investigation or curiosity, an
explanation is found. While many circumstances can be applied to this formula, the
main appeal of such stories consist in finding out... the true order and meaning of
events that have been part disclosed and part concealed (Barzun 144) Consequently, it
is no surprise that the most enduring characters of these works are the detective
figures, those who take it upon themselves to discover the source of disruption caused
by mystery and to restore the state of grace in which the aesthetic and the... Show

In addition, he clears up the obstacle of criminal suspicion so that they can marry:
they furnish the objective means by which the detective can benefit society (Grella 95)
Here the detective is the revealer to the reader and the story s immediate
characters, yet the concealer to greater society. One of the earliest examples of the
family scandal device can be found in Collins The Moonstone. In the novel, the
theft of the titular stone jeopardizes the social stature of the respectable family
involved. The loss of the item is of no great financial burden, yet a private
investigation is pursued to alleviate the implication of any respectable individual
in the crime. The unofficial detective Sergeant Cuff is brought in as much for his
ability for discretion as his renown as a detective. Indeed, the Sergeant is promptly
paid and dismissed as suspicions shift towards Miss Verinder: In resigning all
further claim on his services, I have only to say that I am convinced of his honesty
and his intelligence; but I am more firmly persuaded than ever, that the
circumstances, in this case, have fatally misled him (Collins 166). With that remark,
Cuff s role in the eyes of his employers shift from that of concealer to revealer.
Subsequently, still concerned of Rachel s role in the crime, Franklin Blake, aided by
Ezra Jennings, takes over the role of detective and the duty of dispersing the scandal
by continuing an investigation the theft outside of the
How Does Achebe Show Medicine
Achebe admires the herbal medicine in chapters 9 and 10. He shows how the
medicine works almost all the time. For example, when enzima is sick, okonkwo
was gathering things to prepare and cook the medicine for her. He then put her
head over the steaming medicine and trapped her in the steam. She didn t like it
and started to cry. After the treatment she fell asleep. This tell us and shows us how
achebe appreciates the herbal medicine and understand how it works. He shows us
it working to give us a fell of what it s like. Achebe doesn t believe in and does not
like the medicine man. In the book, the medicine man comes when ekwefi s children
keep dying. He declares them as ogbanje children when the second one dies. He has

My Service Learning Experience For Volunteer At Two
Places
For my service learning experience, I had to volunteer at two places, due to some
issues I had at one of the volunteer sites. Both sites served as a great learning
experience to me and I really enjoyed what time I got to spend at each of the sites.
Both sites were there to provide support to those who had some sort of disabilityand
help them lead a more independent life. Each site did amazing work with their
clients and I am exceptionally happy to see places like this in our community.
The first place I chose to volunteer at was disABILITY Resource Center. This
organization is located at 112 E Myrtle Ave, Ste. 105, Johnson City, TN 37604. My
supervisor there was Tyler Venable and his phone number is (423) 631 0399. This
organization is about helping those with disability have the ability to live a more
independent life. The mission of this organization, as stated, is: The disABILITY
Resource Center provides, services, support, and advocacy so that people with
disABILITIES may thrive and actively participate within their communities.
The overall summary of my activities in which I participated in at this organization
was helping with a peer support group. During this peer support group, I participated
and assisted with sharing personal experiences with clients, listening to experiences
of others, and providing friendship, and recreation with those around me. This
activity consisted of the clients talking amongst their peers about experiences, any
issues or problems they
Description Of A Police Officer
Introduction I always knew that I wanted to become a police officer, so I decided to
interview a Police Captain. I interviewed Police Captain John Carpenter of Riverside
Police Department. I found him through Riverside Police Department after looking
around at the organizational chart I found online and looking at the titles that were on
the chart. The PoliceCaptain is one rank above a Lieutenant, but one below a Deputy
Chief. A Police Captain is in charge of a certain precinct, and normally has his/her
own division. Captain Carpenter is currently in charge of investigations, such as
gangs, narcotics, vice, and intelligence units. The first portion of the paper will
discuss qualities and requirements for the position, while the second portion of the
paper will go more in depth into the occupation, such as the training required, how
candidates are chosen, and salary.
Becoming a Police Officer:
Qualities and Characteristics
Discussing with Captain Carpenter, we talked about the qualities that a police officer
would need to have:
1) Hard worker
2) Dedicated
3) Team oriented (Has a partner so they need to work well with others)
4) Physically Fit
5) Good Judgement and problem solving skills
6) Good listener
7) Assertive
Experience required: In order to become a police officer, there is no experience
required, however to move up to a detective, there is a minimum of 5 10 years
working on patrol before you can be part of an investigations unit.

Theme Of Gender In Bend It Like Beckham
Gender is a socially constructed classification of woman and man. Each gender is
thought to have different roles which are a set of societal norms dictating the types
of behaviors which are generally considered appropriate or acceptable for that
specific gender. Bend it Like Beckham is a compelling British comedy drama sport
film which portrays a diverse range of genderrepresentation and explore different
ideas of gender. The film was produced, written and directed by Guridner Chadna.
The characters in this film are each designed to have a complex individuality, more
predominantly the female characters. This essay explores different representation of
gender in this film through identifying film techniques and methods.
In this film, the idea of gender is displayed differently by each individual despite
any similarities in gender or culture. This suggest that characters can have different
and perhaps contradicting idea of gender albeit having the same gender. For instance,
Pinky (Jess sister) and Jess have dissimilar perspective in gender and its roles. Pinky
portrays the stereotypical Indian woman, who has a more feminine characteristic than
Jess, this can be proven by the use of costume and body language that Pinky displayed
throughout the film. Pinky s confidence and melodramatic body language and
dialogue strongly supports her feminine character. Her fascinating choice of bright
and modest clothing accompanied with her glamorous makeup and jewelry
correspondingly

Breach of ContractA breach of contract is a legal concept in which a binding
agreement or bargained for exchange is not honored by one or more of the parties
to the contract, (Breach, 2007). A breach of contract can occur when one party
does not perform as he or she promised; when one party does something that makes
it impossible for the other party to perform the duties under the contract; or when
one party makes it clear that he or she does not intend to perform the contract
duties, (Bennett, 2007).For example, if Company B terminated its agreement with
Company A in order to make a larger profit, that would be a breach of contract. It
would also be a breach of contract if Company B fulfilled Company C s order first
and was late meeting the terms of its contract with Company A. Another example of
a breach of contract would be if Company A was supposed to make a deposit and
Company B was planning to use the deposit to purchase the computer equipment, and
the check bounced. In that situation, Company A s breach would make it impossible
for Company B to perform its contract obligations. As stated previously, if one party
fails to act as promised, and the other

  • 2. The Holocaust Was A Mass Murder The Holocaust was a mass murder in which about six million Jews were murdered under the command of Adolf Hitler. This took place throughout German occupied territories from 1939 to 1945. Before taken to concentration and death camps, Jews were placed into ghettos, which were set up in order to confine and segregate them into small towns or cities. The main notion for this action was to dehumanize the Jews and to rid them of the human population. If Adolf Hitlerhad not come up with the idea of placing Jews into ghettos, then the Holocaustwould not have been violent as it was. Jakob the Liar is set in Poland of 1944, and a Jewish man is caught outside after curfew. Because of this, he was then shipped to the ghetto headquarters. While waiting for a German officer, he overhears a forbidden radio broadcast about Russian troops planning a fluctuation. Once within the ghetto, he shares the new information with a confident, but a rumor is soon spread across the ghetto saying there is a secret radio inside the ghetto. Eventually, there is a new sense of hope in the ghetto and he realizes it helps everybody get through the day knowing there is a chance of being liberated. When German troops find out of these rumors, they become sure there is a Jew who has secret communication hidden somewhere, and are determined to find out who and what. The movie Jakob the Liar relates to my topic in many ways. In this film, many events occurred throughout that has dealt with how the ghetto
  • 3. The Effects of the Equal Pay Act of 1963 Running head: THE EFFECTS OF THE EQUAL PAY ACT OF 1963 1 The Effects of the Equal Pay Act of 1963 Abstract On June 10th, 1963, John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act, which prohibits wage discrimination based solely on gender. Despite the passing of this bill, women today are still not earning equal pay for equal work. Currently, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 states that an employer in any business cannot discriminate between employees based on gender by paying wages less than an employee of the opposite sex. There are many causes of the gender pay disparity, many can be explained away by level of education, experience, and job tenure. It is the job of a human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A reason for the gender pay gap is the fact that women tend to put their jobs on the back burner in order to raise a family. Women tend to choose to fall from the workforce or only work part time after having one or more children. Women are therefore sacrificing their prime years of earning potential to carry out domestic THE EFFECTS OF THE EQUAL PAY ACT OF 1963 5 responsibilities. This causes their pay to suffer in comparison to a man s wages. Because their work has been intermittent, there are sizable wage penalties resulting from a diminished level of education, experience, and job tenure. Another potential cause of wage disparity is the type of position chosen by men and women. Men are usually considered the bread winners of the family (although this is changing over time) and tend to choose higher paying positions, whereas women tend to choose a care giving profession and positions that have lower financial risk, which end up being less financially rewarding. Does the Equal Pay Act of 1963 effect men as well as women? Yes. The reason that men may be affected by wage disparity is one that they may not realize. Men tend to expect more money in being hired by a company than women. This may lead to a business hiring a woman over hiring a man because the woman actually asked for a lower salary. This could lead to
  • 4. Sight In All The Light We Cannot See By Anthony Dooer Sight is an amazing thing, isn t it? Well, some people don t have that luxury due to the fact that it has either been taken away from them, or they didn t have it in the first place. Quite a few stories utilize the idea of a person without sight , whether it be metaphorical or literal, but the majority of writers stay away from the subject due to how different it is to writing without it. A few authors, however, do the exact opposite and have several characters lose their literal or metaphorical sight . In the novel, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Dooer, several characters have their literal or metaphorical sight taken away from them by various means, including the characters Frederick, Werner, Marie Laure, Madame Manec, and Etienne. One such character is Frederick, who went to the same program that Werner did. He lost his sight due to being beaten up by other boys at the program and ended up with brain damage. In the book, the reader does not see his childhood, so the reader has to infer the basics from what we can see during his trips home. What the reader knows about his family before he was sent to the program is that his mother was very rich, his father was very involved in politics, and that he was in love with birds due to their freedom, which he did not have. What the reader knows about his own life was that he was very shy, he idolized the Audubon society and their love for birds, and that he was bullied in school. Before he had brain damage, he used

Aristotelian is another close source in which we can speak about duties, but Cicero s true belief was that virtues is key to duty. Honor is another reason why individuals choose certain choices that lead you to be seen as a noble person in your society. The office manager was an eccentric, at times wildly misunderstood man named Michael Scott. Throughout his time as office manager, Michael led his employees through the gamut of human emotions. In some situations, in the real world, many of the situations that Michael found himself in may have ended with him on the receiving end of a lawsuit. Michael had a particularly challenging time resisting the urge to sexually harass his employees, not just the female employees, but the male ones as well. Due to the numerous inappropriate incidences that Michael caused in his own office, I feel strongly that Michael Scott was not fit to be the officemanager at Dunder Mifflin. Sexual Harassment is any repeated unwanted behavior of a sexual nature perpetrated by one person upon another. Workplace sexual harassment is a topic that has been discussed in depth over the past six decades. The Civil Rights act of 1964 saw the beginning of the end for the normalization of sexual harassment in the workplace. • 12. Essay on Comparison Of Job And Odysseus The agency of Job and Odysseus is controlled by God and the gods. Neither Job nor Odysseus have agency when the gods are against them. The relationship between the divine and human agency is a well established one in both the ancient Hebrew and ancient Greek cultures. Many acts that could be attributed to human agency are often credited to gods, especially human errors or misdeeds. Humans try to forfeit a good deal of their agency to the gods willingly. Job has, if this is possible, an even lesser degree of agency after Satan afflicts him with sores. Before this, though he suffered great loss, he still maintained the ability to direct himself by means of his physical body. Now however, God, by placing Job in Satan amp;#8217;s power, removes that part of his agency. He is too miserable to move and because of this, he has no choice but to listen and argue with the comforters. For all we know, if Job had been able to walk away, he might have. However, he was not able to leave because his agency was now limited by the random events of destruction and his physical debilitation. Job is a man very limited by God. As illustrated, he has only a negligible amount of agency to begin with. By the time God and Satan finish with him, he has virtually no control over his own life. The fragment of agency he does cling to is his ability to choose whether or not to curse God. No one, except himself, could prevent Job from cursing God. Yet, he refuses to curse God, even though He is responsible for his suffering. Odysseus is very much a part of his own loss of agency. It stems from his encounter with Poseidon amp;#8217;s son, Polyphemos. Until then, it was clear that Odysseus was in control of his life, as much as any man can

Currently, most Americans working in either the private or the public sector must undergo a urinalysis test in order to keep their present jobs or get a new one (The Lectric Law Library par.2). Another good example of Hamlet s Ego is his plan to arrange an interpretation of the Murder of Gonzago with insertion of some lines from his own mind. War of Superiority The tensions discovered in the French Quarter in A Streetcar Named Desire are characteristic of the entire country in that time period. A Streetcar Named Desire tells of struggle between heritage, money, and gender in the early twentieth century. Written in 1947, the author Tennessee Williams had personal relations to these conflicts as he grew up surrounded by them. In one of his works, A Streetcar Named Desire, he addresses these societal problems with the competition between the characters Blanche, a melodramatic romantic, and Stanley, a stubborn realist. The list of differences between these characters could not be longer, but this makes the perception of their similarities all the more significant. As an Alpha Male type figure, Stanley always meets conflicts with violence and will fight with every ounce of his being for what he believes no matter the consequences. Neisseria Meningitidis Research Paper Neisseria meningitidis, also known as meningococcus, is a human pathogen that causes severe infections in the menings that surround the brain and spinal cord. When it was first being identified in 1887, the scientists found Neisseria meningitidis as a fastidious, encapsulated, non spore forming, non motile, non acid fast aerobic gram negative diplococcus bacterium. It appears in kidney bean shape under the microscope and it is 0.5 1 micrometer in size. The bacteria need an environment with about 5% CO2 for normal growth. The preferred incubation temperature is around 35 37В°C. The capsule that N. Meningitidis has is not only an important virulence factor, but also is used to distinguish the twelve serogroups of the pathogen. Each serogroup possesses different pathogenicity, immunogenicity, and epidemic capabilities. Four of the serotypes (A, B, C, and W 135) are responsible for most of the epidemics in the world. Serotype A is most commonly seen in Africa and Asia; whereas Serotype B can be mostly found in America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We know that the blower inside the house supplies the air through the air shafts, but what do the other parts do? Well the condenser has a chamber called the compressor that houses the freon, and for the freon to have some effectiveness the freon that may get hot being outside of all the time, will get warm up and get hot. Air conditioning units are usually supposed to supply cool air, so if the freon gets warm, the fan on the condenser kicks on and cools the compressor. Freon circulates throughout the system from the compressor, to the cooling coil adjacent to the blower, from there the freon lines return to the condenser and pass through the heater core and finally returning to the compressor. Captain Carpenter is currently in charge of investigations, such as gangs, narcotics, vice, and intelligence units. The first portion of the paper will discuss qualities and requirements for the position, while the second portion of the paper will go more in depth into the occupation, such as the training required, how candidates are chosen, and salary. Pinky portrays the stereotypical Indian woman, who has a more feminine characteristic than Jess, this can be proven by the use of costume and body language that Pinky displayed throughout the film.
