The Cough Harry Hume s short story The Cough uses figurative language to show that the father
works as a miner and as a result is getting sick but cannot stop working as his job is the only thing
keeping the family afloat. The diction used in this micro story illustrates how the father s job as a
miner seeps into every part of their life. The personification of the coughsets out to illustrate the
father s illness not as something evil or destructive, but simply as a nuisance. The symbolism of
the Orrery demonstrates how the author views their father s sickness as the core of his world,
responsible for making their lives function. Hume s is able to show an entire family s state and
story in a few paragraphs by using carefully selected words and literary devices to make the reader
infer the information rather than say it explicitly. The personification of the cough shows that it is
such a constant presence in the family s life that it almost acts as a family member. The description
of the cough behaving like a childboth makes the reader view the cough as a member of the author
s family and implies that the author does not view the cough as necessarily malignant. However,
the cough is a nuisance much like a little kid is a nuisance because it is always hungry and
demand[ed] attention. The cough being always hungry makes the reader think of a little kid

Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests (hereafter, GMUG). Common trout species are part
of a suite of Management Indicator Species (MIS) ...which are monitored during forest plan
implementation in order to assess the effects of management activities on their populations and the
populations of other species with similar habitat needs which they may represent (Forest Service
Manual 2620.5). MIS assessments are revised every five years and each is a synthesis of the most
recent field based observations and peer reviewed science pertaining to the species.

habitats on the GMUG. A variety of land management activities can affect lake and stream habitats,

Intro Throughout history, women are casted with the role of being docile, obedient, and fragile by

Southern states at the time was based on four main ideas: the sphere of home and the competitive

In the light of recent events and crimes across the nation, the Texas legislature has adopted a new
law in attempt to decrease crime. The new law, which allows for the licensed gun holders to carry
their weapon openly,went into effect on January 1st, 2016, and it is particularly disquieting to
some due to the size of the state of Texas. Normally, as with any law, there will be unintended
social consequences that affect both those with position of power and the general public. Thus, the
introduction of the open carry law in Texas will create misunderstandings between the public and
authorities and will psychologically affect the general public s idea of firearms.

The main reason for the introduction of the open carry law was to reduce crime due to the threat a
gun poses and how it will deter potential thieves, robbers and criminals from injuring an
individual due to the presence of a gun. Thus, it is intended so that guns will make the civilians
feel safe and create fear in the potential criminals. While open carry law states do have a 23% less
crime rate than non open carry law states, there hasn t been any data suggesting that open carry

Aphra Behn s The Disappointment addresses three main conflicts regarding gender, power and
sexuality. Behn challenges the traditional gender roles accepted by the British society during the
17th century; that men are always in a position of power, by making Cloris, her female character
dominant over the male character Lysander and giving her the authority. Behn further challenges
the position of men in being the dominant genderin the sexual sphere and discusses masculine
identity and how it is measured by the ability of men to successfully perform and satisfy women s
sexual desires, and how women take charge and be in control when men s perform poorly.

overthrown when Lysander is incapable of pleasing Cloris. Here, Behn is addressing the women

softball are different sports although they seem very similar. Confusing them as the same sport
seems innocent enough, until you truly begin to understand the differences and why they exist. It is
nationally understood that baseballis for boys and softball is for girls. The girls sport is baseball,

Al Qaeda is arguably the most well known and most dangerous Islamic terrorist organization in the
world. It was established around 1990 by a Saudi millionaire, Osama Bin Laden, to bring together
Arabs who fought in Afghanistan against the Soviet invasion. The goal of the organization is to

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a
lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution
that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this
district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry
about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no
dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high
schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high
school in or near these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already
owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when
you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an
excellent choice property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our
tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools
in the community of Akron.

Society vs. Individuality In the novel Gulliver s Travels by Jonathan Swift, the influence that
society has on Gulliver is very detectable in this book. Throughout the novel, Gulliver repeatedly,
finds himself in predicaments because societal norms and the role of government in our society.
Swift shows how the idea of who people are due to their position in society. Gulliver is an
outsider to the society of Lilliput, he tries to fit into their world but fails, not only because of his
size but because of their governmental treason. I believe, Swift wrote the story of Liliput to try

Germany. His parents, Georg and Dorothea Handel had no relation to music. His father believed

On March 21st, 1925, in London, England, a man named Peter Brook was born. He was the,
younger son of two Russian scientists who came to Britain in 1914 as refugees, and set up a

Peter s older brother became a psychiatrist , (Peter Brook).Ever since Brook was a little kid, he
