2. Module 3 Reflection
Standard III Module 3 was an interesting unit. The main focus of course was
the need for, and the different types of assessments. Screening assessments,
formative assessments, and summative assessments are tools that I use
regularly in the classroom so there was not a ton of new knowledge gained
there, but rather validation of the effectiveness of practices already put into
place; how encouraging! I learned that diagnostic assessments are used to
assess individuals in a specific area; to diagnose their strengths or weakness,
for example in reading. I enjoyed researching technology reading
interventions as these are rarely used at our school. Not using these types of
interventions really leaves out a key component in helping our kids. Students
love technology and are being raised in an era where they are surrounded by
it. Not utilizing this very important intervention tool is doing them such a
disservice.

3. Module 3 Reflection
I chose to create a PowerPoint for the Common Core parent presentation. This activity was
meaningful to me because I will indeed be able to share it with the parents in my classroom
for years to come. While creating the lesson, my prior knowledge of the Common Core was
greatly built upon as I discovered different levels of thinking, as well as the involvement of
not just student and teacher, but of parents and the school community as well. Like the
assessment plan that was required in the second module, I found the literacy intervention
plan to be a bit confusing. Examples or a template for completing the activity would be of
great assistance for students completing the assignment in the future. Finally, I was a bit
nervous about creating this reflection in a new technology mode, however, once I
discovered Slideshare, it was really quite simple! What a wonderful tool that can be used for
sharing information with people all over the world. Tools like this make me realize just how
limited we are without these type of applications to share our information with the world.
