Being able to set learning activities and being able to assess them correctly is what PLOs
(Program Learning Outcomes) are about. Throughout this course I have learned the importance
of making certain the technology I utilized with learners was able to meet the needs of all
learners. As I worked on the degree I focused on making certain the students were learning
however I did not keep in mind the different types of learners so this course helped with the
redesign process. As I redesigned numerous of projects I have worked on throughout this degree
I learned the Program Learning Outcome would only be attainable if I provided the right tools
for success.
The right tools for success would include creating an environment where every learner is
given the same opportunity to succeed. The perfect environment would also include a place
where all learners can communicate in an open dialogue using their choice of tools to promote
critical thinking amongst their peers and within themselves. It would also be a place where
learners are able to actively engage in collaborate opportunities. “Education is no longer just
about the presentation of information in a way to actively engage a student in a room. Education
today is about access to information. Active engagement and active learning have now become
interactive learning (Thiele, Mai & Post 2014).”
PLOs
As I reviewed the 8 Program Learning Outcomes for this degree program how I would
organize them in importance to my journey would be PLO 8 which says that it demonstrates the
ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and
leadership. Also PLO 1 would be right behind running in a very close second. It says
demonstrates knowledge and skills related to learning using technology. I chose PLO 8 one as
being the most important to where I am trying to go in my career is because my goal is to build

leaders outside of the classroom as well as in the classroom. Everything first step we make starts
with some form of decision and when it comes to technology you want the learner to have access
to the tool that will bring forth the most independence all while giving them the opportunity to
succeed. The student will know the focus of the subject but ultimately it will be up to them to
figure out what they should do with the information with help when desired or needed.
“The basic idea of constructivism is that knowledge must be constructed by the
learner. It cannot be supplied by the teacher [10]. He gave the clue of how
learning can be nurtured provided by Piaget's definitions of knowledge, which is
an interaction between subject and object. It is a perpetual construction made by
exchanges between thought and its object. It is not a copy of reality by the
concepts of the subject that approaches the object without ever attaining it in
itself. Therefore, the construction of knowledge is a dynamic process that requires
the active engagement of the learners who will be responsible for ones' learning
while the teacher only creates an effective learning environment (Abbas, Lai-Mai
& Ismail 2013 p.50).”
The learners in my environment was the given the information and was asked to form
decisions that would help them beyond that particular moment. That leads to the next PLO which
is PLO 4 Apply research to support learning in a technology-enhanced environment. I did have
some learners who did not want to take the extra step so in their eyes they felt like it was a waste
of time learning it or even trying to put forth an effort. Active engagement is never an option
when you are in my classroom. If I provide you with the tools for success, then it is left up to you
to decide how far you would like to go with it. Without the active engagement the students the
purpose of trying to educate someone is purposeless.
Next I would choose PLO 6 Evaluate technology resources to facilitate effective assessment
and evaluation. Why is your student losing focus? Why does your student seem to be the last
person turning in their assignment? How come your learning is not participating in the discussion
post like you think they should? All good questions that leads up to PLO 3 Design learning

opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the needs of all
learners. Often we lost the learners attention because we do not meet their specific needs. That is
one of the reasons for you to do a pre-assessment so that you can get to know your learners. This
would go hand in hand with PLO 7 Utilize technology to collect and analyze data, interpret
results, and communicate findings. If you are aware of your learner’s you can choose the proper
tools that will help them get the most out of their education.
With new emerging technology as well as the internet being the place where most people
their lives communicating daily on it is imperative that you teach and reiterate the importance of
ethical practices in the classroom. PLO 5 Exemplify ethical practices of technology usage. It is
so easy to misconstrue words when on the computer so setting guidelines periodically throughout
your course is necessary in order to reduce unethical practices towards others. This is important
before you even focus on the emerging of the new tools you are going to introduce to your
classroom. PLO 2 Demonstrate knowledge and skills in current and emerging instructional
technologies. I want my learners to have the knowledge and skills so that they can function at a
high level of success however they must know the importance of proper communication when
using any of the tools.
DesignChallenges
I faced minor design challenges initially because when redoing some of the assignment I
wanted to make certain that I kept everyone inclusive as I shifted things around for the other
learners. I felt like I was overdoing it at times and still felt that the more words my redesign had
that the learners would have a clearer understanding. However, what I learned is that each
individual is different and simple is better when it comes to design. Speaking from personal
E-Portfolio 5
experience when I want to learn something on YouTube I go for the video with the least amount
of instruction and time because it starts to become confusing afterwhile.
I had the same experience when it came to creating this e-portfolio. I am a hands-on learner as
well as visual learner it I had to do so much research before I felt like I was doing the project any
justice. I did not want to underdo it but I also did not want to leave out valuable information
because I knew that I could possibly use this for employment one day.
Once I chose to add the visual and graphics it became even more of a challenge. I did not
want the e-portfolio to look plain however I did want to seem like I was overwhelming the reader
by adding too much. I did however find that a picture sometimes speaks louder than words and it
will give the readers a visual of what is to come. Tying everything together I would say was the
biggest challenge for me but I figured it out. I did days of days of research of e-portfolio designs
as well as looked at videos on how to effectively get the most information to the reader without
overdoing it.
Resolution
Initially creating a wiki was one of my biggest challenges and then I was introduced to more
tools that made me just as nervous. What I walked away from in doing this e-portfolio was that
tools are there to help you not to hurt you. I used Glogster for the first time correctly to not only
display some of the issues I was facing like creating YouTube videos but also to boost my
confidence in my ability to teach it to someone else as well.
Conclusion
While in this course when I learned to redesign some of my previous projects for this degree
program I taught myself the importance of learning how to do things more than one way. As I
E-Portfolio 6
was learning how to eventually share the information with a future student I was a student for the
moment. I reevaluated all of the PLO (Program Learning Outcomes) for this program and
applied them to my personal life as a learner and a future online educator. I was impressed with
the knowledge that I gained in the redesigning of the projects. I saw that giving everyone the
opportunity to look at the same assignment and use the tools they needed to succeed on their
level was the greatest opportunity I could provide for a learner.
