GUIDELINES
The statement of purpose is perhaps the most important, and most challenging,
element of your application packet. A written statement of purpose is a mandatory
requirement in the admission process at The Amaatra Academy. It is a measure for
the faculty to assess the knowledge, motivation, intellectual maturity and readiness
of applicants to pursue education at our institution. The statement of purpose is a
crucial component of the admissions process – it lets the admission committee
directly get to know you. It can determine whether an applicant is accepted or
rejected, irrespective of their other qualifications.
STEPS TO FOLLOW
Stage I: Do your Homework
Browse through the website and brochure thoroughly. Highlight the aspects of the
program/s that appeal to you.
Stage II: Brainstorm and Reflect (on paper)
1. Reflect on your intellectual development.
• Describe an experience that moved you in your current school
• Who are your role models? What attributes appeal to you?
• Why did you shortlist/choose our school? (E.g.: peer feedback)
• Did you speak to any of the students at our school)?
• Is there any particular reason to choose a certain specialization in you XI and
XII standard? (Only for CLASS XII Students)
• What are your career goals? (Only for CLASS XII Students)
• Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (Only for CLASS XII Students)
• Do you have a plan to accomplish it?
• What drives and motivates you towards your goal?

Stage III: Outline your Statement of Purpose
1. Using the thoughts from the previous stage, shortlist a topic (from a couple)
that really plays against your strengths.
2. Using bullet points and brief statement organize your reflections and
brainstorm ideas that strengthen the central topic of your statement of
purpose.
a. Concentrate on your life experiences and elaborate with specific
examples
b. Please mention only what is connected, relevant and excites you.
c. Do not make things up!
3. Your outline should cover these areas and, preferably, in this order:
a. What aspects of The Amaatra Academy appeals to you?
b. What are your future goals?
c. How can the school be an enabler to help accomplish the goal?
d. What positive aspects do you bring to the school?
Stage IV: Write Draft of Statement of Purpose
When writing your statement of purpose:
• Always use positive language while referring to yourself
• Give detailed, but concise examples
• Use transition words, sentences and paragraphs. Your statement must read
smoothly
• Skip a line after each paragraph
• Avoid using vocabulary that you do not know
• Refrain from repeating yourself
• Have strong opening and closing paragraph.
• Stay within the 2 – 3 page limit!
• Thank the admissions committee for their time at the end of your statement
of purpose

to decipher what portions of the SOP are your true belief
Stage V: Ask for Critique, Revise and Edit
1. When you are finished with your draft statement of purpose, read it out loud
to yourself and make corrections.
2. Ask friends, parents or the role model to read your edited draft. Please
incorporate relevant feedback
3. Revise and edit your draft
4. Always submit a handwritten SOP
