Our solar system consists of objects that revolve around the sun. It contains eight planets that are separated into inner planets closer to the sun and outer planets farther from the sun. The planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

6. Our solar system has eight planets:

7. Scientists put these planets into two
groups. The INNER PLANETS are
closer to the sun

VENUS EARTH
MARS

8. The OUTER PLANETS are farther from
the sun
JUPITER
SATURN
URANUS
NEPTUNE

9. These two groups of planets are
separated by an ASTEROID BELT,
between Mars and Jupiter

10. ASTEROIDS are small rocky objects,
made of rock and metal.

11. A DWARF PLANET revolves around a
star, but its path is not clear. PLUTO
is a dwarf planet.
