WHAT IS SOLAR ENERGY?
SOLAR POWER IS THE CONVERSION OF SUNLIGHT INTO
ELECTRICITY EITHER DIRECTLY BY USING PHOTO
VALTAICS.
Photovoltaic cell (PV):
A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell (PV), is a device that converts
light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.
.
WHAT IS SOLAR ENERGY?
The most precise Solar Energy definition : Energy from the sun.
But what is solar energy really?
There are two types of solar energy:
1)Thermal Energy 2)Electric Energy
Thermal Energy: Thermal Energy is everywhere. It’s lights up our
days. It heats the earth, our bodies and our homes. It dries our clothes . All
for free!
Electric Energy: Electric Energy uses the power of the sun to produce
electricity through solar cells, otherwise known as Photovoltaics (PV).
 Distance from earth:
1.495E11 m (93 million miles) ± 1.7%
 Powered:
Powered by hydrogen fusion
 Composed of layers.
The outer layer is the photosphere
 Temperature
Effective blackbody temperature of of 5777 K
The Sun
WHAT IS THE FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING
SOLAR POWER IN PAKISTAN?
 IN PAKISTAN, ABOUT 70% OF THE POPULATION
LIVES IN SOME 50,000 VILLAGES DISPERSED
AROUND THE COUNTRY.
 MANY OF THESE VILLAGES ARE FAR FROM THE
MAIN TRANSMISSION LINES OF THE NATIONAL
GRID BECAUSE OF THEIR RELATIVELY SMALL
POPULATIONS.
 IT IS NOT USUALLY ECONOMICAL TO CONNECT
THESE VILLAGES TO THE GRID.
CONTINUED…..
 SOLAR ENERGY HAS GREAT POTENTIAL IN AREAS
OF PAKISTAN THAT RECEIVE HIGH SOLAR
RADIATION THROUGHOUT THEYEAR.
 ENOUGH ENERGY POTENTIAL FOR SOLAR
ENERGY BECAUSE THERE ARE 250-300 SUNNY
DAYS PER YEAR.
 CONTINUOUS CLOUDY DAYS ARE RARE.

FUTURE PROSPECTS IN PAKISTAN
 Pakistan has a lot of potential
especially in northern
Baluchistan.
 A Memorandum signed
between the Balochistan
government and CK Solar
Korea for installing a 300 MW
solar power plant near Quetta.
 Punjab govt launches solar power
project in Cholistan.
 Over 2000 workers from Pakistan
and China are working hard to
build the world’s largest solar park,
Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park.
 Once completed, the 1,000 MW
solar park is expected to provide
electricity to approximately
320,000 households.
 Longyangxia dam solar

largest solar power plant in the
world.
