This document discusses how family structures have become more diverse and flexible in modern society. According to theorists like Giddens and Stacey, late modern/postmodern society provides more opportunities for individuals to choose their own identities and lifestyle arrangements, including how they structure their families. As a result, families now come in many different forms as people tailor partnerships to their needs and can choose to cohabit, marry or dissolve relationships based on their own satisfaction rather than societal norms. However, some argue this view may exaggerate the level of choice and flexibility for all families.
