1. Technological Advances
Throughout history there have been great advances in
technology, but as of recent are the advances that are geared
towards health. There are now many different types of
technology to help track wellness for you. Some examples may
be watches or apps to use to keep you on track. I will discuss
how the different lenses relate to this topic and connect them to
wellness.
When we look through a historical lens at technology
related to wellness, we have made leaps and bounds in this area.
Before you had to go to the doctor to find out what was wrong
with you or to track your wellness, not anymore! With recent
innovations such as apps to track dietary needs and watches to
track movement or heartrate it is easier than ever to stay on top
of our health. Let’s look at when you used to go to the doctor
and have a nurse manually check your blood pressure. Now
they have a machine that can do three different tasks at one
time, it can check your blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen
levels in your blood. The technological advances allow doctors
or nurses to provide better and more efficient care to their
patients. In history you had to go to the doctor, or the doctor
used to come to you. Now there is apps or hospitals that are
doing virtual visits for routine illness to help lessen the spread
of illness. Historical we have come a long way in developing
technology to help with maintaining wellness.
Humanities is affected using technology for wellness
purposes as well. People are connected more and more using
technology as well. Through the use of shared health or
tracking apps people can connect and challenge one another in
their wellness journeys. Also, these apps or tracking systems
can also provide information to how people are living their day
to day lives. Doctors or healthcare providers can use things
such as Bluetooth to track their patients and how they are doing.
2. Modern CPAP machines have the ability to track and tell you
and your doctor about your sleep on a daily basis and provide
real time results to make any adjustments that may be needed.
Humanities is the study of relationships and can play a huge
role in our lives, technology only boosts this by helping people
to hold others accountable.
When you look at the natural and applied sciences lens in
conjunction with technological advances you have to look at
how we can affect the environment. Technology allows us to
know what is going to happen with the weather and the
environment well in advance. Years ago, weather observations
were made the eye or ear and plotted on a map, not technology
allows us to predict what will happen well before it does.
Having this allows us to be able to prepare and have advanced
notification for serious incidents and be able to react sooner.
Take a tornado as an example, very dangerous and deadly if not
warned early. With advances in technology meteorologist are
able to look at a storm system and predict if sever weather will
cause or has the probability to cause a tornado or severe
weather. Technology plays a role in natural and applied
sciences and have allowed us to make strides in bettering our
world.
Technology has an obvious impact on social sciences on a
daily basis. It can either be positive or negative and it really
depends on the person that is viewing it through the lens. When
we look at social sciences it is the effect on people and
technology can definitely affect this. There are many different
ways it can do this. Take surveillance by with technology,
some may say it is an invasion of privacy while other says it is
necessary. I would agree with both sides, technology has made
things possible today that were not possible 50 years ago.
Technology also allows us to study things in the social realm a
lot easier than we could in the past. We can access databases of
information at the stoke of a key or mouse click. These
advances have allowed us to make break throughs in
development and innovation. As we continue to go forward
3. technology will have its positive and negative impacts on social
sciences.

History of U.S. Labor Legislation
Employers have a long history of using their power to abuse
employees. Past employer practices have led to bloody
conflicts. Over time, the development of Federal regulations has
helped ease the tense employee/employer relationship.
Create a timeline of all the significant labor legislation passed
in the 20th century using Word’s Table (Links to an external
site.)feature. Next to the name of each law, place a column with
the year it was passed, and then another column, in your own
words, provide a description of what the law covered. If the law
was amended by another law, make an additional column and
explain why and how it amended the previous law.
Remember to comply with APA, 6th edition guidelines as
delineated in the Ashford University Writing Center and in the
Originality Matters section of the course. You must use at least
two scholarly sources in addition to the course text.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.)
for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.
4. D1
The National Labor Relations Board consists of five members,
who serve staggered terms and who are appointed by the
president of the United States. How do you think the president’s
political outlook plays into who is appointed to sit on the
board? How might this impact the decisions made by the board
from presidential term to term? Present your views in
approximately 250 words in your initial discussion post.
D2
After reading the Dorfman article, “Public Pensions are Still
Marching to Their Death (Links to an external site.)”, respond
to the following questions:
· What are the political reasons public pensions are
underfunded?
· If the pension problem is political, what steps would have to
occur to remedy the problem? Do you think such a remedy will
ever take place?
· If you do not see a remedy for the situation, what do you
predict will happen to public pensions in the future?
Present your views in approximately 250 words in your initial
discussion post.
IDS 402 Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric
Wellness, You, and Society
Overview: In Final Project Part Two, you will develop a
multimedia presentation in which you will have a chance to
reflect on what you have learned about your
issue or event, yourself, and wellness through analyzing its
impact on society. You will also be able to apply your
5. communication skills and integrate multimedia
elements to communicate your message to an audience. This
milestone is due in Module Five.
In developing this presentation, you will be able to use your
analyses from the first part of this project as a starting point.
The reflective nature of this activity
prompts you to dig deeper and consider the implications posed
by the critical analysis of your issue or event in wellness. How
does studying wellness affect how
you understand yourself, as well as the world around you?
You’ll also be challenged to incorporate a dash of creativity to
enhance your message.
Multimedia Presentation: For the second part of the project, you
will create a multimedia presentation that incorporates audio
narration and visuals to
articulate how critically analyzing your issue/event in wellness
impacts your own framework of perception and ability to
constructively engage in society.
PowerPoint: You are required to include a combination of text
and visuals in order to support your PowerPoint presentation.
Use the Check File Compatibility
With Earlier Versions and Are You Having Video or Audio
Playback Issues? resources to help you check compatibility
between versions of Office. Also, follow the
instructions on the Microsoft Support page to compress your
presentation as a zipped file. You may upload a zipped file
when submitting this assignment.
Reducing the size of the PowerPoint presentation file by
compressing it makes it easier for your instructor to download
and grade.
Microphone: While it is not necessary to purchase a microphone
for this project, you will need to have access to a microphone to
6. record the narration of the
presentation. This could be the external microphone of your
device, a set of earbuds, or equipment borrowed from a friend.
This assignment is graded on the
content of the narration, not the quality of the recording.
Prompt: First, review the module resources you have
encountered so far and create a presentation draft (PowerPoint
with speaker notes) that analyzes the
issue/event under study (the one you selected in Module Two).
Specifically, the following critical elements (which align to the
critical elements required of the presentation in Final Project
Part Two) must be addressed:
I. Issue/Event: For this section of your presentation, you will
introduce the issue/event and how it relates to issues of
wellness and any of the topics that
have been discussed in the course.
A. Using appropriate research strategies, describe a social or
global issue/event that is related to issues of wellness.
i. What is the origin of the issue?
ii. What is the issue about?
B. Using appropriate research strategies, describe the impact of
the issue/event on society.
i. Who is impacted by the issue?

8. interact with people and understand social or global
issues/events? Supplement
your reasoning with examples.
B. Recommend strategies for using this kind of critical analysis
for meeting your personal and professional goals. What might
this look like in your
everyday life? Consider how wellness can be used to address the
day-to-day responsibilities or questions faced by practitioners
in your field or
discipline.
IV. Conclusion:
A. Using relevant research or diverse perspectives, assess the
benefits and challenges of addressing issues in wellness.
B. Explain how critically analyzing wellness adds value to
interactions with people in personal and professional contexts.
V. Presentation: Throughout your presentation, you will be
assessed on your ability to use effective communication skills to
deliver your message to your
audience.
A. Construct your presentation in a way that ensures the audio
and visual elements are logically organized in order to convey
your message to your
audience.
B. Provide supporting evidence in your presentation that
supports the importance of the chosen issue/event and its impact
within wellness.
C. Develop the audio narration to logically flow with the
presentation to articulate the importance of critically analyzing
the chosen issue/event
9. and its impact within wellness.
Rubric
Guidelines for Submission: Milestone Three should be
approximately 10 to 12 slides. You are required to include a
combination of text and visuals in order to
support your work. Support your presentation with relevant
resources cited in APA format and noted on a separate slide. If
you require alternative
accommodations for completing this assignment, reach out to
your instructor directly for more information.
Note: Turnitin, the originality report feature used in the course,
is not able to check PowerPoint submissions for plagiarism.
Thus, you should submit your
speaker notes in a separate Word document. Both files
(PowerPoint and Word) can be submitted through the Milestone
Three submission item.
Please note that the grading rubric for this milestone submission
is not identical to that of the final project. The Final Project
Part Two Rubric will include an
additional “Exemplary” category that provides guidance as to
