This document discusses strategies for promoting a safe and positive social and cultural environment in schools. It outlines that teachers should provide a warm, supportive environment with low levels of fear. It also discusses the importance of schools being psychologically and physically safe for students, where they do not feel threatened and are protected from harm. The document then provides strategies for teachers, students, and parents to promote a safe school environment, such as developing social skills in students, creating buddy systems, and encouraging communication between schools and parents. Finally, it discusses how developing human relation skills like friendliness, maintaining a positive attitude, listening, and giving compliments can help create a positive environment.
3. Safe Environment
• Teachers may safely proceed on the
premise that classrooms function best
when they provide a positive and
structured climate, one that reflects
warmth, support and pleasant
circumstanceswith very low levels of fear
(Fraser and O'Brien,1985).
4. Psychologically Safe
• Pupils do not feel threatened mentally or
physically.
• Pupils would feel safe if they know that
teachers are sensitive about their cultural
diversity.
• They would feel safe knowing that the
classroom is a place that does not practice
discrimination and has high tolerance
towards the cultural diversity.
5. Physically Safe
• The pupils are not harmed physically
either by their peers or teachers.
• Teachers should avoid punishing the
pupils physically.
• Teachers should always be seen as warm
and caring individuals who will protect
their pupils as they will protect their own
children.
6. • Learning will not be able to take place
naturally and effectively if the teachers
broke the trust that the pupils have in
them.

School

- Teachers' role:
1.Helping pupils to develop social
competencies, problem-prevention skills
and coping skills
2.Emphasizing pro-social attitudes and

3.Avoids negative labelling and tracking
8. 4.Monitoring pupils' academic progress,
behaviour and attitudes on a regular basis
5.Nurturing role models who show supports,
warmth, mentoring and responsiveness to
pupils needs.
9. b) Working with pupils
1.Creating a buddy system in the classroom
in which current pupils help the new
arrivals
2.Getting the pupils involved in a class
project together such as a classroom
beautification campaign
3.Establishing pupils tip lines which provide
anonymous, non threatening way for
pupils to report school crime
10. c)Working parents and community
members
- Help parents to promote safe classroom
by:
1.Encouraging them to communicate with
teachers and making special effort to

and individual teacher's safe classroom
policy
