Post Social Apocalypse?
there’s a social trend towards being more social
a lot of people think that its all about web technology, its not.
a lot of people think they have a choice, they don’t
web 2.0 is happening to the web - becoming ‘social’ is happening to society - so where does that get us?
a bit of history
the seeds of the future are sown in the past
in the beginning were hackers it was about invention and collaboration
a chap called tim wanted to help share ideas

I've currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work. This implies that I'll get something practical within a few months, and I'd like to know what features most people would want. How to respond
keep it simple
make it honest
put your customer in control
there is no choice this is just how it is
easy to say, but how?
‘ social’ isn’t a comms issue (yet)
very few companies are ready to be ‘social’
to ‘be social’ is to become a social movement
to be culturally relevant
for people to believe in you
most companies don’t have the chops
becoming ‘social’ is a brand task
Be authentic to the core
find a belief you can share with customers
start living that belief
but i can’t change a whole organisation...
it can only start with the CEO. it can not be built ‘bottom up’.
trust will deliver better results than fear
crate a culture of craftsmanship -  learn from practice & constantly evolve
shift away from the virtuoso individual, toward raising the collective game
Negotiated collaboration, not aggressive competition
know the difference between what customers say and what they would really want if only you did it
listen to customers, then make creative leaps
delegate decisions to as close to delivery as possible
clarify shared beliefs, clarify mutual responsibility, and respect that trust-relationship
use hard measures only for gauging a need for intervention to penalise failure to meet basic standards
respect informal measures - create a safe space for ownership & experimentation. Incentivise with trust and independence (not financial bonuses).

Cherish problems and mistakes
have fun
after the  social revolution?
unity: social divides blurred
polarisation of social & anti-social communities
localisation
more self expression
rebirth of craftsmanship
post ideological -  pragmatism the new philosophical ideal
man over machine,  not subject
this is the future that Marx was looking for (probably)
