Xenoestrogen Research Paper
We constantly hear the claim that you can t eat healthy on a budget, and to us that s a myth
because a family can eat a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables that meets the Dietary Guidelines
for Americans, says Robert Post, associate executive director of the USDA s Center for Nutrition
Policy and Promotion, as cited in an article by Nancy Hellmich of USA Today. Does this healthy
diet include the amount of hormones, chemicals and preservatives that is added to our daily food
source? Unless we buy our food from a local farm or have your own field to raise your crop, a
healthy diet may not necessarily be healthy if the food comes from your local grocery store. The
majority of our local markets like Wal Mart, Publix, Winn Dixie and so on, sell commercial foods
which may or may not contain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this paper we will discuss the pros and cons of xenoestrogens in our food, the harmful effects it
does to our bodies, and how to avoid them all together.
So what is xenoestrogen? According to the medi lexicon website, xenoestrogens are any of the by
products of industrial or chemical processing that have estrogen like effects. When we look at its
Greek origin, the word xeno means alien or foreign, so xenoestrogen literally means a foreign
estrogen. Amy LaRue of the women in balance website stated that, Xenoestrogens are a sub
category of the endocrine disruptor group that specifically have estrogen like effects. Estrogen is a
natural hormone in humans that is important for bone growth, blood clotting and reproduction in
men and women. The body

Marilyn Manson and His Impact on Sub-culture.
Marilyn Manson has been pushing the envelope of the right to freedom of expression since his
controversial shock rock antics began in the early 1990 s. His methods are strange and rejected by
most of society, as it cannot understand what he is trying to achieve. Many people believe that
Marilyn Mansonis bizarre, seeing him wearing women s clothing, applying heavy facial makeup,
and covering himself with jewelry. His success can be attributed not only to his entertainment
abilities, but even more so to the incredible marketing campaign organized to promote himself
and his crazy actions. His actions give the media a scapegoat to fall back on and a figure which
they can blame all of society s problems. He has amassed a large following... Show more content on

Manson also begins to experience his sexuality with women. From his school experiences to his
involvement with sexuality, Manson begins terrorizing the people who have mistreated him. He
started to experiment with black magic, began an enduring drug habit, and displayed his disgust for
mainstream citizens by stealing from stores. All of this is what Brian Warner was, and who
Marilyn Manson was to become. (Long, Manson and Strauss)
As Manson s reputation developed, so did the disturbance surrounding him and his actions. His
concerts were regularly protested by civil rights groups, and his music was the target attacks
from religious and more specifically, Christian groups. This image was created using Manson s
genius for marketing. At the peak of this controversy, Manson had a cover story in Rolling Stone
Magazine as well as a best selling autobiography: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell.
Why Does He Have Such A Following?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. (Bill of Rights)
Manson, along with many other artists, fully embraces their first amendment right to free speech to
get their message across. This message mainly appeals to younger generations who can relate to
Manson s songs. Younger

Essay On The Middle Ages
England in the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages represents a periodization of European history which took place from the 5th
century to the 15th century; this age was also know as Dark Ages because of the complexity of the
period and lack of written documentation and archeological evidence. The Middle Ageswas a time
of tremendous historical, social and linguistic changes.
Great Britain during the Middle Ages (from the 5th century withdraw of Roman forces from the
province of Britannia and the Germanic invasions, until the Early modern period) was divided into
a number of independent kingdoms; by the High Middle Ages, after the end of the Viking Age and
the Normal Conquest, the kingdoms of England and Scotland came forth as the main poles of
political power. The medieval period on England can be dated from the arrival in Kent of Anglo
Saxon troops led by the legendary Hengest and Horsa. Subsequently the Brythonic, Celtic powers
were conquered by Jutes, Angles and Saxons Germanic tribes, from the contemporary Angeln and
Jutland areas of northern Germany and mainland Denmark. ... Show more content on

From a political point of view, the Norman Conquest of England divides medieval Britain in two
distinct phases of cultural and political history. From a linguistic point of view the Norman
Conquest had only a limited effect, Old English evolving into Middle English, although the Anglo
Norman language would remain the language of those that ruled for two centuries at least, before
mingling with Middle English. At the height of pre Norman medieval English power, a single
English king ruled from the border with Scotland to the

Reasons For European Colonization
European colonization began in 1492 when a Spanish explorer by the name of Christopher
Columbus sailed west to find a new trade route but ended up in the new world known as the
Americas. The massive territories, countless riches, and experienced native people meant that a
claim in the americascould easily bossy a nations wealth, status, and reputation. After this
expedition more countries such as the European powerhouses; France, Spain, and Britain began
to colonize in the America s. France, Britain, and Spain overall had similar motives when they
started to colonize; to spread religion, to obtain wealth, and to increase geopolitical power. France,
Spain, and Britain had the same motives gold, glory, and gold by their main focus were different.
Spain main motive was economical. Britains motive was for religious freedom and build and
empire. The French motive was for trade routes. In 1492 the colonization began for Spain with the
arrival of Christopher Columbusto one of the Caribbean island. The Spanish empire were the first to
come to the Americas. The Spanish empire wanted to find china to get an cultural exchange but
instead they found and unknown land. When they landed the Native American received them with
open arms and bearing gifts. !1
The Spanish were seeking gold for the most important reason for their country; and they used
every way to get it. The natives were friendly and amazed by how large their ships were, but the
Spanish weren t looking for a friendship they wanted gold. The Spanish explorers acted like
they were friends with the Native people such a as the Incas and Aztecs, but they wanted
everything their way and they would do anything to have it their way. Christopher Columbus had
four main voyages and the main motive was to seek gold, they were failed attempts. Explorers
as Cabeza de Vaca, Hernan Cortes, Hernando de Soto, and Coronado all went looking for gold
and other riches for Spain. The Spanish empire wanted to be ahead of every other country and they
believed colonization and finding gold and riches would help

Cultural Critique Of Japanese Cafes
Cultural Critique of Japanese CafГ©s In Japan, there are many aspects that make it attractive to
the human eye. One of those things is the abundant kawaii attributes. Kawaii is a Japanese word
used to reference things that are cute or adorable. A couple of examples would be kitty
keychains, ice cream earrings, and pink owl sharpeners. However, they don t always have to be
something small. Another common attraction in Japan that s considered kawaii are the various
themed cafГ©s, or restaurants. The cafГ©s in Japan are wildly different and diverse from the
typical American cafГ©s and they usually include a signature theme, such as cats, ninjas, and
maids. The most common cafГ© in Japan is the typical maid cafГ©. This is where the
waitresses usually dress up in a maid costume and talk to the customers as if they were their
master . Patrick Galbraith wrote an article that goes in depth about maid cafГ©s. In his article he
mentions, Maid cafГ©s first appeared in the late 1990s in Akihabara, Japan, an area where dating
simulation games were sold and players gathered. Maid cafГ©s extended relations with fictional
characters from media to physical reality, allowing players to interact with fictional characters in
human form, while at the same time interacting with humans who perform characters (GalBraith).
So people would go to these cafГ©s as a way to bring their dating simulation games to life. It could
also be a great way for people who are lonely, to find a connection with

A Comparison of Two Different Newspapers
A Comparison of Two Different Newspapers
In the following essay, I intend to compare the differences and similarities in which two different
newspapers a tabloid (The Mirror) and a broadsheet (The Times) report the same story. I will be
looking at the presentation and the use of language as well as the basics of how the story is put
forward and told. Both papers are reporting the same story in which Prince Philip made a statement
along the lines that guns are no more dangerous than cricket bats following a shooting at a school in
Dunblane in Scotland. In general there are many differences between tabloids and broadsheets. A
tabloid is smaller than a broadsheet, usually being about half the ... Show more content on

The headline claims the Prince to be foolish in the form of a pun foolip .
In an article the lead paragraph is designed to have a large impact on the reader which sums up
the story in a short space. This is useful for people who haven t got time to read the full article. It
is also designed to interest the reader so they read on. In The Mirror the lead paragraph is simple
and bold, full of emotion and sensational language such as sparked outrage to over exaggerate the
story. The lead paragraph is designed to be short and straight to the point but it fails to mention
any positive side to the Princes comment, which is revealed later on in the article. This again
shows signs of The Mirror being bias. The Times is more informative and is not bias in any way.
It explains how he said that members of shooting clubs were no more dangerous than members of
golf or squash clubs . The paragraph also contains more honest language and less sensational
language and it over exaggerates less.
The final effective presentational features in the newspapers are the pictures. In The Mirror the
picture makes the Prince look stupid and foolish, in this way it ties in with the headline. The picture
has been taken at a particular moment and catches the Prince with a stupid look on his face. Inside

Roethkes Use of Tone Essay
Roethke s Use of Tone
Childhood experiences seem to be the ones that are recollected most vividly throughout a person s
life. Almost everyone can remember some aspect of his or her childhood experiences, pleasant and
unpleasant alike. Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz suggests even further that this
concept could be true. The dance described in this poem illustrates an interaction between father
and child that contains more than the expected joyous, loving attitude between the two characters.
Roethke s tone in this work exhibits the blended, yet powerful emotions that he, as a grown man,
feels when looking back on this childhood experience. The author somewhat implicates feelings of
resentment fused with a loving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanza also provides the reader with the feeling of how aggressive this dance may be.
Roethke is apparently referring to his father s belt buckle in the last line of the third stanza.
During an aggressive act such as this, a small child would experience pain from such a man s
belt buckle scraping across his ear in this fashion, yet the child refrains from any type of
resistance. Perhaps this is caused by the child s fear that his father will become angry, so the child
simply endures the pain and tries to enjoy the moment, for he may also feel love and attention that
he may not receive regularly from his father.
Bridges 3 John J. McKenna offers us further suggestions about the feelings suggested in this poem.
In McKenna s article, two of the holograph manuscripts to My Papa s Waltz are discussed.
McKenna implies that the changes made between these manuscripts are further evidence that this
poem shows mixed emotions through the tone that Roethke utilizes. These holograph manuscripts
are labeled MS A and MS B at the University of Washington where they are contained in the
archives. The first of these changes discussed in McKenna s article is the gender of the child in
the poem. He discusses how Roethke seemed to argue with himself about what the sex of the child
should be, but finally chooses male for a few different reasons. It seems plausible that he did
recognize the rough house nature of

Analysis Of James Joyce s Araby
In the short story Araby, James Joyce provides the audience with a glimpse if 19th century
Ireland seen through the eyes of an adolescent young man. It is this adolescence and the navies
of the world that is under attack. Joyce masterfully reveals an innocence held by Araby by
contrasting it with a setting filled with symbology that eludes to the hopeless reality in which he
lives. Joyce injects a sense of unrealized bleakness for the protagonist by the imagery that he puts
forth. North Richmond street, being blind was a quiet street except for the hour... (Joyce 200),
immediately sets the atmosphere as one that is almost desolate, with iron gray clouds heavy with
grief for the people below. The with the ending phrase, except for the hour (Joyce 200), reinforces
this feeling. Only one hour, where life and movement grace this street but fleeting, like freshly
minted snowflake landing on a cheek flushed with embarrassment. Much like a crepuscular ray,
pushing through clouds, when gone, do the clouds not seem darker. The path to adult hood for
Araby rests under these skies and winds thorough a morass of self truthand a sense of predestined
caste. The reality of Arabys life comes into focus early on. His poor and reality destitute situation
made apparent mainly by where he lives. An uninhabited house...stood at the blindend, detached
from its neighbors (Joyce 200) , is revealing to the economic station of Araby. The fact that he lives
with his uncle suggest that in his

The War On Drugs And The United States
The War on Drugs has been an ongoing effect ever since the Civil War introduced the drug
morphine to the world. In the years since people have been coming up with drugs more lethal than
morphine such as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and so on and so forth. The War on Drugs is
dangerous and leads to many deaths throughout the years. America has set up agencies such as the
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and other drug task force teams throughout the United States.
Even though we may not be able to catch all the drug dealers the United States drug teams has
put a tiny dent into this ongoing black market run by cartels and even the smaller drug dealers. In
this essay, we will see the effect it has on the United States, the way we are trying to prevent, and
overall what the drugs have done to America since the Civil War. The effect that drugs has put in
the United States has been a strong impact on how our criminal justicesystem has evolved since the
Civil War. The reason being is that today drugs are a way of life for some people of this world if
that means using or dealing daily. Per the basic data from the drug war facts, the total number of
people that is in prisondue to drugs in 2015 was 1,508,636 people due to drug charges
(drugwarfacts.org). While this may not seem like a big number it is recorded that 50% of people
that are in jail or prison offenses are due to drug charges (drugwarfacts.org). This plays a major

Pizza was initially presented in the mid 1900s near Chicago and in New York when Italian
immigrants initially landed in the United States. At that point in the mid 1900s, GI s from WWII
started pouring once more from Italy, carrying with them a renewed craving for pizza. In spite of
the fact that the pizza business was very extensive right now, the greater part of the pizzerias were

Walter Rauschenbusch Social Gospel
In A Theology for the Social Gospel by Walter Rauschenbusch (1917), and Love and Justice:
Selections from the Shorter Writings of Reinhold Niebuhr (1957) are both sensitively passionate
about people, and the social gospel presented to them. Gonzalez shares, Rauschenbusch is amongst
a small core of liberals that devote their efforts to exploring and showing the relationship between
the demands of the gospel and the misery in which the urban masses lived. He insisted that the
social and economic life of the nation should conform to the requirements of the gospel, and
showed that economic liberalism the theory that the law of supply and demand suffices to regulate

The social gospel plainly concentrates religious interest on the great ethical problems of social life.
The more the social gospel engages and inspires theological thought, the more religion is
concentrated on ethical righteousness. The social gospel is bound to be a reformatory and

deals with the ethical problems of the present life with which the common man is familiar and
which press upon his conscience. Yet it appeals to God, his will, his kingdom; to Christ, his

The Automobile Industry Of Japan s Manufacturing...
Taichii Ohno (1912 1990) is best known not as a guru but a symbol of Japan s manufacturing
resurgence after World War II (Guide to Management Ideas and Gurus. 2008). Ohno worked in
Toyota, a Japanese car company as a production engineer. At the end of second world war, when
Toyota s productivity was way below that of its competitors, the president of Toyota Motor
Company highlighted that they must catch up with America within three years. Otherwise, the
automobile industry of Japan will not survive. Ohno and his associates then came to America to
study about the manufacturing process and after that invented Just in Time manufacturing
management method. The principle of Just in Time (JIT) is to produce and/or deliver the right
quantity of products, of the right quality, within the right time and at the right place in order to
increase productivity, efficiency and to decrease costs and wastes associated with overproduction.
According to International Journal of Economics, Business and Finance (2013), JIT consists of two
main elements which must be integrated together to function in harmony including human
resources, planning based on the elimination of wastes. The first key to JIT success is human
involvement which includes stockholders, owners of the company, labor organization, suppliers
and Government support. JIT creates the idea of involving all workers at different levels of the

He essentially writes this essay to tell another story. He wants to talk about his family, but in
order to fully explain the depth of the meaning of his of what he has written, he has to frame it in
such a way to give the reader a sense of awe surrounding the discovery of this story. The best way
to describe it is to liken it to a joke. He spends most of the time on the build up , and on the
delivery . However, he winds it all up with the punch line which culminates in the understanding
of the build up by the reader. Sedaris, from my limited reading and understanding, tends to
follow this style in many of his essays. He spends most of his time on the backstory, building his
world, and in doing so describing his character as a writer and as a person. This gets the reader
used to his style quickly, they feel like they understand and are a part of the story. However, when
he delivers his punch line or his meaning right at the end, which is usually only a few sentences or
a paragraph or two, he sucker punch s the reader. He hits the reader right in the stomach, which,
when the stars clear from their eyes, lets them see the full picture, or the point of his essay. In this
instance, the story about Australia is what the reader believes to be important, with really the only
important part being the burner analogy. Sedaris then throws the child story at you, with the direct

Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran s...
William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what
distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is
a troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step
father murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branaghs and Gregory Doran s
portrayals of the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlets relationship with his
mother Gertrude.
Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show
happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated
with the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black.
His black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also
as a way to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance
who is dressed neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe
Gertrude s position of power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and
demonstrates how Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom.
On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds.
The use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves
and society while the dark blue

Descriptive Essay On Walk To The Night
His eyes, those ocean pools penetrate my own, hypnotising me, that s all I see, just his eyes. I
try to avert my gaze, to search for Alice, but I can t move, my body is cased in stone. His voice,
smooth and enticing, commands me to move, and I obey. Where is he leading me? I can smell
the ocean, feel the cool breeze on my skin. As I glide my hands across my body, the cool silk of
the blue dress kisses my palms and fingertips. The coarse ground cuts into my naked feet. Where
did my shoes go? Did I leave them back at the apartment? I don t remember leaving my apartment,
or meeting, Angelo.
Walk to the edge, Angelo commands. Go on, walk to the edge.
I m released from his gaze as he steps out of my view, giving me the opportunity to survey my
surroundings. At the water s edge, boats bob over waves that grow stronger, crashing against the
wall and soaking the ground. A few buildings kiss the skyline, too far for anyone to capture a
glimpse of us. The fierce sky looms overhead with dark grey clouds. Alice s was right, Angelo
plans to kill me, to dump my body in the ocean like all the other women.
With no control of my limbs, my feet walk to the edge, allowing me to peer into the murky, green
water dressed with whitecaps. A wave crashes against the wall, soaking me. п»їIt s freezing. I
inhale a hard gasp of air as I throw my arms around myself in a failed attempt to warm my body.
Why can t I step back away from the edge? What s wrong with me? I m aware of Angelo s presence

First Generation Students Essay
Engle and Tinto (2008) reported that first generation students were nearly four times more likely to
leave higher education institutions without a degree when compared to their counterparts. Research
has indicated that first generation students are more likely to be older, married, have children,
employed, attend collegeless than full time, and be less involved in college activities (Hodges
Payne, 2006; Nuniez Cuccaro Alamin, 1998). First generation students face more challenges to
graduate from college than students of parents who are college graduates (DiMaria, 2006;
McConnell, 2000; Terenzini et al., 1993). Moreover, one major obstacle that first generation
students encounter is the ability to function and thrive in two opposite worlds (Mitchell, 1997).
Hsaio (1992) identified these two worlds as; (a) the culture of home and (b) the culture of higher
education. Many first generation students are forced to have multiple roles while attempting to
attend college. As research has shown, many first generation students obstacles begin before they
leave their homes. Parents and/or close relatives are not equipped to provide information required
for college (Thayer, 2000; Willett, 1989).
Many first generation students also bear the unfortunate title of low income (Engle Tinto, 2008),

financial constraints (Hicks, 2003; Thayer, 2000). This study also provided a rationale as to why

Comparison of the Protagonists in Juno and Catcher in the Rye
The main protagonists Juno and Holden of movie Juno and the book Catcher in the Rye, have
main thing in common, they have not yet accepted the fact they play a role in society,
communicating with the people around them, and with their families. Where they differ is in
the problems they face. Juno s main problem is that she becomes pregnant at a young age which
is considered to be a life changing event by societal standards. The main source of Holden s
problems comes from result of the death of his little brother Allie who had Leukemia and his
inability to cope with it. Despite many differences that the main protagonists have, it is true to say
that both Juno and Holden go through times of struggle. Although it is clear that the main
characters struggle more than the average teenager, ultimately both the novel and movie outlines
what occurs to teenagers going through a phase in their lives. Both Holden and Juno suffer
through psychological struggles while they try to figure out what they want in life. In both the
movie and the book both characters try to be as original as possible, however this leads to the
characters isolating themselves from society and the people around them. Holden tries to be the
most authentic person he can be while calling all the people that don t share his ideals phonies .

Before starting this class, I had no prior knowledge of anything regarding the deaf community. I
wanted to learn more about the culture and learn to converse in sign language because it was
going to benefit me in the long run. However, I ve never been able to not hear before or had my
hearing altered or manipulated before. I ve never been in complete silence trying to communicate.
I ve never had to try and decipher what someone is trying to say to me without some form of
verbal communication. Once I came into the class and we did some activities, I was shocked with
some of my reactions.
Before I took the American Deaf Culture Quiz , I skimmed it and tried to see if there were any
questions that I knew the answers to. Overall, I didn t do quite so bad, I only missed a handful
of questions, which I m surprised in a good way because I don t really know anything about the
deaf culture. Originally going through the quiz, I answered each question with my best guess and
when we went over the quiz, I was shocked with some of the answers to the questions, more so
some of the questions I had gotten wrong. I was most surprised with the statistics of how many
members of the deaf community marry each other. I was also surprised at the fact that it is okay to
walk through two deaf people conversing with each other instead of finding another path. I thought
that was also interesting. I learned a lot from the quiz in the few minutes I took it and the little bit

Essay On Computer Advantages And Disadvantages
When building a computer, there will be some challenges you might have to face in gathering
information, assembling a computer, and supporting the system after assembly. While on the other
hand, it can be difficult to choose what computer you should buy. The difference of buying and
building a computer comes down to personal wants, but there are disadvantages and advantages for
both options.
The challenges you would face when building a computer can sometimes seem overwhelming. As
you are gathering information, you have to make sure that everything is compatible with each
other. You can t go out and buy a motherboard, only to discover that one of your other parts doesn t
fit the right requirements. You also needto spend a good deal of time researching what you want, so
to make sure that things work together. When assembling the computer, you have to worry
about being gentle with your hardware. You have got to make sure that you keep yourself static
free as well because if you do not ground yourself while in the building process, you could cause
damage to your components. One way to avoid this is to not wear wool or rub your socks on the
carpet; This helps to prevent a build up of static electricity, and you could always buy an antistatic
wrist strap. By building a computer, you will have to fix the problem if anything goes wrong.
This can be a challenge since you have different components from different companies. If you
don t know what you re doing, you will have to pay for those damages; You can t get much help
from one company to try to repair your computer either. Another challenge you face in building a
computer, is that you have control over what goes into the computer. This can be a challenge
since there is such a large variety of components to choose from, with prices being different, and
the parts having different performances. At the same time, this just adds to the idea of full
customization for the customer. So the 3 big cons are; You are responsible for fixing a damaged
part, You have to make sure everything is compatible with each other, and it could be sometimes
possible you will have to spend more money to get the things that you want performance wise. The
3 big pros are; You get full

Problem Statement Even before the disaster brought on by Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans
Police Department had serious organizational and reporting issues. According to the United States
Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (2011), several patterns were clearly discoverable in
the organization, including the excessive use of force, under reporting of internal issues,
discriminatory policing, and the number of misconduct complaints were high. The issues that the

Government intervention was needed, and an investigation had to be started. Thomas E. Perez,
Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, in a press release, focusing on the
findings of the investigation, stated: Our findings show that the problems facing the NOPD are
wide ranging, systemic, and deeply rooted in the culture of the Department (The United States
Department of Justice, 2011). A sustainable reform was needed. The investigation report (United
States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, 2011) identified the main organizational
deficiencies as the lack of clear policies, recruitment practices that failed to prioritize high quality
candidates, the lack of training and support provided for the members of the Force, the lack of
supervision, and the Paid Details system. Further, there were several failings in the organization
related to performance evaluation and promotions, complaint handling and investigation,
adjudication, and NOPD lacked a vision of community oriented policing. The cross examination
practices of the Police Force were likewise seen to be insufficient. Victim sensitivity was another
issue that weighed on the New Orleans Police Department: people group were not included in
policy making needs, and there was no connection with its occupants. As a result, people stopped
trusting NOPD. Some of the complaints brought against New Orleans Police

The Debate Over The Dormant Commerce Clause Essay
Though there are a plethora of Supreme Court cases relying on the dormant Commerce Clause to
invalidate state laws in order to uphold a national free market, there is also a long history of
dissenting justices in dormant Commerce Clause cases. For instance, Justices Antonin Scalia and
Clarence Thomas commonly criticize the dormant Commerce Clausein their opinions. This lack of
cohesion among Justices over the very existence of the legal concept makes it challenging for states
to determine whether they are crafting Constitutional legislation and difficult for district and
appeals judges to decide cases.
The main criticisms of the dormant Commerce Clause include that the doctrine forces judicial
activism, leads to unpredictable results, and lacks a theoretical basis in the Constitution. Justice
Thomas stated that the doctrine requires the court to function more as legislator than as judges
because of the policy judgements that judges must do when weighing competing interests at stake.
Justice Scalia criticized the doctrine, stating that it has been inherently unpredictable unpredictable
not just because we have applied its standards poorly or inconsistently, but because it requires us
and the lower courts to accommodate, like a legislature, the inevitably shifting variables of a
national economy. Scalia was particularly critical . . . disparaging the lack of any clear theoretical
underpinning for the doctrine.
Despite criticisms of the dormant

the impact of the lawsuits at a broader level.
Baylor University is currently facing three separate Title IX lawsuits, all stemming from the
university s alleged inaction and mishandling of sexual assault reports (Perez, 2016). One lawsuit

Homeless Youth Problem
Imagine being 16 and men bedroom being a sleeping bag under a bridge or a cot in an overfilled

having so many young people on the streets is even worse. To solve this problem we must first
understand how young people are put in this position, how many young people are homeless,
and what being in this position does to them. The first step to fixing this issue is figuring out
who is in this position and why. Approximately 34% of the country s homeless population are
under the age of 24, why are these people homeless? Most youths become homeless because they
are running away from something. About 79% of homeless youth were being physically abused at

young people (ranging from 12 24) have made. Sometimes it isn t even abuse or a lack of

Cultural Values Of The Ojibwa Culture
The Ojibwa or known as the Chippewa in European are people of northeastern North America. The
term Ojibwa is said to mean the puckered moccasin people or they say the French said the word
meant pictograph. The Chippewa Indians mainly lived in the Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota

used the word Anishinabeg to describes themselves which means original people. The Ojibwa
has its own cultural values like honesty, generosity, endurance, wisdom, and strength of character.
All these values have been instilled through education and religious practice. The tribe has had
ties with the French and even helped the French fight against the British in the French and
Indian war. The French traders would even wed Chippewa women. The family was of great
importance to the Ojibwa tribes. Each person in the Ojibwa family has its own role to ensure that
things are done correctly. In the Ojibwa community, the roles between males and females were
seen as complementary. The males would do the hunting and go to war if needed. The men would
also be the ones that do trading and negotiation with the Europeans after the first contact. They

Government And Public Policy In The Public And Local...
Public policy is created by addressing complicated issues which affect communities. Public policy
requires a collaboration of ideas with purposes and the means of achieving them. Society plays an
important role in policymaking and utilization, which improves implementation not only in the
public sector but also in the private sector (Peters, 2016). Governmentagencies at all levels can
manage and support policies.
A reported by Professor Donald F. Kettl (2014) described local zoning officials in Oso, Washington
did not inform people of the potential risk of building their homes on the hillside. Also, federal, state
, and local officials did not share information well enough, so that decision makers were not aware
of the risks involved (Kettl,2014). The inadequate communication and collaboration between the
levels of government resulted in lack of resources for tragedy stricken communities. For instance,
local nonprofit agencies offered more aid than federal, state, and local governments and national
organizations.
The mudslide tragedy of Oso, Washington buried many homes and 44 people lost their lives.
Natural disasters are incidents that affect the population by causing physical and emotional
damages, loss of life, property damages, and sometimes emphasizes the failure of public
administrative processes (Donahue Tuohy,2006, p.5). The federal governmentknows more about
the risks, but they do not have power to act (Kettl,2014, p.3). Also, local governments have the

A Child With Developmental Delays
When Mia was only two years old, her parents noticed that she was not up to speed with other
children her age. This discovery led her to the genetics department at A.I. DuPont Children s
Hospital. For a child with developmental delays, I only saw that she lit up the room with her
energy and friendly nature, which made me fall in love with her as she explored the room. While
the counselor consulted her parents, Mia continued to come up to me and grab my hands,
something that she apparently did quite frequently. During the appointment, her mother began to
cry, worried that she may have inadvertently caused Mia s condition during pregnancy. Her father
had concerns that his first child may never be able to live a normal life and have children of her
own. The counselor eased the parents concerns by educating them on her syndrome and basic
genetics as well as getting them in contact with a support group for children with the same
syndrome. Mia and her family went home well informed and in good spirits despite the devastating
news they received. This family is a prime example of the benefits of genetic counseling, and why
patient care is crucial in the profession.
That experience drew me into genetic counseling, a profession that I did not know existed a year

former performances at the theater. When he entered the theater, he shook hands with a man,
conversed briefly, and then entered the door that led to the parquet and the dress circle. The
dress circle was the area in front of the stage intended for actors to stay during the mist of the
production. After spending some time watching the play, John made his way back through the
hallway and ascended the staircase to the first balcony, located on the same level as the VIP box.
Mistaken as an usher, John was welcomed into the box and the door was closed behind him. The
box was decorated beautifully; fit for a king.
You may be thinking John got lucky and enjoyed the rest of the play from the box located on the
first balcony, draped in American flags, and relished in the fine company of the occupants. That is
wishful thinking, here s the rest of the story...
John didn t accidentally walk into the reserved box. He intended to. He carefully planned his
entrance into the theater and into the reserved box carrying a concealed loaded .44 caliber pistol.
That night John visited the theater in Washington DC on April 14, 1865 he enacted one of the
greatest tragedies in American history. John Wilkes Boothmurdered the honored guest for the
evening performance, president Abraham Lincoln. Six days earlier, Lt. General Ulysses S.

Victor Frankenstein As A Hero
Although some critics view Victor Frankenstein as a Tragic Hero because of his one essential
flaw, his overambitious desire to discover what cannot be known, he is truly a Byronic Hero by
definition. Although Victor is of a higher social class than the average person and his essential
flaw triumphs all of his others, he has a deeply troubled past, struggles with integrity, secludes
himself away from society, and is a willful individual who seeks redemption by carving out his own
path. Victor s many, deep flaws, which often induce the reader to believe that he is actually the
antagonist and the Monster the hero, and ultimate redemption in telling Robert Walton his life s
story make him a Byronic Hero.
Although Victor s family was one of the most distinguished of the republic of Geneva and his
parents were possessed by the very spirit of kindness / And indulgence, (Shelley 39) his days
were not filled with happiness. His troubled past started the day Elizabeth caught scarlet fever,
delaying his departure for Ingolstadt. Although Victor s mother, Caroline, was able to cure her,
she died in her place. The destruction of a dear bond by an irreparable evil surely would have
caused anyone to suffer, but as time came, Caroline s death became rather an / Indulgence than a
necessity (Shelley 45) to Victor; it was nothing more than something that delayed his departure for
Ingolstadt. Because Victor is in a situation where he no longer has control, his psyche must carry
the burden

My Final Project
For my final project, I decided to create an artistic representation of Ricky Smith s character.
created a wanted poster, a police report, and lastly an arrest warrant. I originally started out with
only wanting to create a wanted poster for Ricky but after doing research I quickly learned that
there is much more that must happen before a wanted postercan be created. In this essay, I will
describe what my research has taught me about the criminal science is not only the United States
but the United Kingdom as well. I will explain how the information I learned influenced the
decisions I made throughout the process of creating my project. Before even beginning to make
any of the artistic components of this project I did some basic... Show more content on

I did an additional google search to see if I could find a more specific source to help me and I
was pleasantly surprised with what I found. This search lead me to another source titled Police
Reform and Social Responsibility Bill. This source was only about arrest warrants and went in
depth on what they exactly are. This article was particularly helpful because it focused on the
United Kingdom so I was then better able to create this arrest warrant to the degree that it would
have been created for Ricky s case. This article goes into detail on when the warrant should be
issued and what the prosecutor must do to get the warrant. This journal helps the reader better
understand what the Police Reform and Social Responsibility bill means. It says, The effect of the
clause is to require the consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions before an arrest warrant can
be issued in private prosecutions for offenses where universal jurisdiction applies.
I now understood what must happen before an arrest warrant could be created I now had to
figure out what an arrest warrant really looked like. To do this I figured a visual representation
would give me a good start. I looked up United Kingdom arrest warrant examples and used that as a

King Kong Cultural Differences
The cultural differences represented in King Kong (1933) and King Kong (2005)
In the original, Bruce Cabot portrays Jack Driscoll who is the first mate of The Venture, the ship
that Carl Denham hires to sail to Skull Skull Island to film a feature film. Driscoll is the hero that,
upon falling in love with Fay Wray s Ann Darrow, He is the one most determined to save Ann
Darrow after she is sacrificed too Kong.
33 s Driscoll is honorable, courageous, and strong, all these virtues are all represented through
driscolls ruggedness. While he is a man of few words, the Jack Driscoll of the 1933 says what he

remember that weekend I made plasticine dinosaurs and started to try to do some stop motion

when Kong is chained up in the Manhattan theater for public display, Denham creates a deformed
version of the 3 hour film where native performers wear the native costumes from the original film,
even duplicating the sacrificial ritual. This way, Jackson gets to almost satirically acknowledge the
racist and sexist attitudes that were prevalent in 1933 America, without giving these ideas
legitimacy them and offending modern viewers. But there s more to it than that. Jackson wanted
his film to be faithful in as many ways as he could, he found ways to get the more homage to his
favorite film by faithfully recreating moments and cues within a creative context. While recreating

Leaching Of Human Exposure (BPA)
Human exposure can occur through multiple routes, however oral exposure is the major route of
exposure to BPA, thus, oral exposure occurs because of the leaching of BPA from polycarbonate
containers and from the plastic lining of cans (Chris et al., 2009). Furthermore, BPA is also
detected in indoor air primarily associated with dust, which indicates exposure can occur through
inhalation (Taylor, 2008). Exposure to BPA in humans received dramatic attention when it was
detected in serum, follicular and amniotic fluids, fetal serum, milk of nursing mothers, and in the

Allusion Of War In The Butter Battle Book
The Butter Battle Book by Dr.Seuss is a deceptively childish book about a war over what side
one should butter their bread. While a good bedtime story, anyone with knowledge of the Cold
War will immediately pick up the similarities between this book and the actual war, along with
Dr.Seuss s message behind the text. His excellent use of craft puts his view across and solidifies
what he believes about the Cold War. Dr.Seuss uses allusions, irony, and hyperboles to portray his
beliefs about how silly the Cold War really was. Dr.Seuss has written books of many colors.
Books like Green Eggs and Ham and Hop on Pop are light hearted, funny, and sometimes
completely weird. The Butter Battle Bookis about two different communities torn apart by one...

During his allusions to the real world, he constantly slides in just a hint of irony that helps bring
out the main theme he s trying to pass. The first example, You just run to the wall like a nice
little man. Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you can (Seuss 49), is a crystal clear
sense of irony. In this line the leader of the Yooks tells the guard to, as a any gentleman would,
calmly drop a bomb on the enemy. This bit of irony stands out and makes one think about the
actual calamity dropping a bomb would do. The second major piece of irony is different, but has
the same meaning overall, That was a pretty sour flight that you flew. And the Chief Yookeroo
has been looking for you! (Seuss 47). In this, the lead drummer calls the Yook guard s flight a
failure, but was it really? He only stepped down in the book because if he attacked the Zooks his
people would have gotten attacked as well, so it was success in some ways. This irony does the
same as the first, forces the reader to think about the consequences of attacking with retaliation. All
in all Dr.Seuss makes great use of irony to make any reader think about the cause and effects not
only in the book but during the Cold War as

It was time for the ball.
I walked carefully, counting my steps and making sure to walk with the posture fit for a
princess. If you aren t sure if your posture can allow for the balance of 10 books upon your head,
then it isn t proper, Melanie s voice said in my head. I shook my head in a meager attempt to swat
out the image of her scolding me from my mind.
I looked down at my dress. It was definitely eye catching, that was for sure.
I was dressed as if I was preparing for the whole world to see me. In a way, I was. The Shadow
Kingdom would see me this evening, and they were to see a beautiful Crown Princess. My hair

Me, rule a kingdom?
Alex addresses the room with mirth and a very handsome grin. I welcome all of you to the first

with the commoner. How lucky are all of you to be alive in the time of their reincarnation? More
loud cheers were followed by small laughs. I lightly hit Alex s arm as I suppressed a laugh of my

Another former intern at Alexander McQueen sued the company recently for exploiting her and
making her do art works for embroideries and dyeing fabrics for free. (The Guardian, February 17,
2014)
In reality, the very concept of unpaid internship is faulty. To survive in expensive cities like New
York or Los Angeles and pay out of your own pocket for food, accommodation and transportation
while you work forty hours a week for free is both unrealistic and impractical, unless, of course if
you have the financial backing. But that means that fashion internships are just for the rich as a
middle class household definitely doesn t have the budget for it. So does this imply that only if
you have the money, you get a good internship? A survey by NACE which came in The Wall
Street Journal says, 60% of 2012 graduates who worked a paid internship got at least one job
offer, while just 37% of those in unpaid gigs got any offers. That s slightly only slightly better
than the offer rate for graduates who skipped internships entirely, at 36%. Without a job surety,
interns are walking aimlessly knocking on every door to just get in. Interns are not even
considered as employees although in most small scale companies they make up a major part of the
working force. What is wrong in the system is that the ones who

A Hero As A Hero In William Wallace s Braveheart
According to Campbell a hero is someone that must go out to a new land and take victory over
multiple life threatening challenges that will change who the hero is as a person. A hero must also
have a motive that pushes them to defeat these challenges. In Braveheart, the title character
demonstrates a hero as he leads his outnumbered and under armed men against the powerful
English army, as he seeks freedom for the Scots, and vengeance upon the English for the killing of
his wife. At the beginning of the film, William Wallace is introduced into the Ordinary World, and
is presented as innocent with no knowledge of the problems around him. He is introduced in the,
Ordinary World, of Scotland, where everything is peaceful and calm to him, as he is unaware
about the challenges that lay ahead of him. After being introduced Wallace Later on, Wallace
faces his first Call to Adventure, when Campbell comes to, Fetch you[Wallace] to a meeting.
Campbell invites Wallace to a meeting about fighting however, he does not want violence, so he
chooses his own path. Wallace felt that, If I[he] can live in peace I[he] would, which is his
Refusal to Call, as he does not want to head out to fight and face the uncertainty of the adventure
that lays ahead. Instead he wants to live in peace with a family. This a part of being a hero as he
wants to maintain peace, unless violence is necessary. Later on in the movie, Wallace accepts his

Social Medi A Social Perspective Essay
For the baseline week, time spent on social media is 25 hours and 12 minutes, average 3 hours
and 36 minutes per day. I spent more time on social media on weekends compared to weekdays
where I would have university. Antecedents are stimulus that precedes a behavior, events or
actions occurring before behavior that triggers behaviour(Weiten, 2013). This can be divided
using biopsychosocial model. For decreasing social media use, my most relevant antecedents are
social or environmental factors and psychological factors. Social or environmental antecedents
include time I usually use social media. I use social media after waking up and before sleeping.
I use social media most in bed. Another social antecedent is when I am in a social setting where
my friends are using social media, I am more likely to also check my social media. One
psychological antecedent is when I am bored, I will use social media. On weekends, I have
more free time and hence use social media more, while I am least likely to use social media
when I am busy. On Thursday, I spent the shortest time as I had to be in University all day. I will
also use social media when I am studying as an avoidance behaviour. When I reach a topic I feel
is challenging, I want to procrastinate and seek instant gratification by using social media, to
avoid doing the challenging work. I will also use social media when I am taking a break from my

  • 2. Xenoestrogen Research Paper We constantly hear the claim that you can t eat healthy on a budget, and to us that s a myth because a family can eat a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables that meets the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, says Robert Post, associate executive director of the USDA s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, as cited in an article by Nancy Hellmich of USA Today. Does this healthy diet include the amount of hormones, chemicals and preservatives that is added to our daily food source? Unless we buy our food from a local farm or have your own field to raise your crop, a healthy diet may not necessarily be healthy if the food comes from your local grocery store. The majority of our local markets like Wal Mart, Publix, Winn Dixie and so on, sell commercial foods which may or may not contain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marilyn Manson has been pushing the envelope of the right to freedom of expression since his controversial shock rock antics began in the early 1990 s. His methods are strange and rejected by most of society, as it cannot understand what he is trying to achieve. Many people believe that Marilyn Mansonis bizarre, seeing him wearing women s clothing, applying heavy facial makeup, and covering himself with jewelry. His success can be attributed not only to his entertainment abilities, but even more so to the incredible marketing campaign organized to promote himself and his crazy actions. • 7. Essay On The Middle Ages England in the Middle Ages The Middle Ages represents a periodization of European history which took place from the 5th century to the 15th century; this age was also know as Dark Ages because of the complexity of the period and lack of written documentation and archeological evidence. The Middle Ageswas a time of tremendous historical, social and linguistic changes. Great Britain during the Middle Ages (from the 5th century withdraw of Roman forces from the province of Britannia and the Germanic invasions, until the Early modern period) was divided into a number of independent kingdoms; by the High Middle Ages, after the end of the Viking Age and the Normal Conquest, the kingdoms of England and Scotland came forth as the main poles of political power. The medieval period on England can be dated from the arrival in Kent of Anglo Saxon troops led by the legendary Hengest and Horsa. • 9. Cultural Critique Of Japanese Cafes Cultural Critique of Japanese CafГ©s In Japan, there are many aspects that make it attractive to the human eye. One of those things is the abundant kawaii attributes. Kawaii is a Japanese word used to reference things that are cute or adorable. A couple of examples would be kitty keychains, ice cream earrings, and pink owl sharpeners. However, they don t always have to be something small. Another common attraction in Japan that s considered kawaii are the various themed cafГ©s, or restaurants. The cafГ©s in Japan are wildly different and diverse from the typical American cafГ©s and they usually include a signature theme, such as cats, ninjas, and maids. The most common cafГ© in Japan is the typical maid cafГ©. This is where the waitresses usually dress up in a maid costume and talk to the customers as if they were their master . Patrick Galbraith wrote an article that goes in depth about maid cafГ©s. In his article he mentions, Maid cafГ©s first appeared in the late 1990s in Akihabara, Japan, an area where dating simulation games were sold and players gathered. Maid cafГ©s extended relations with fictional characters from media to physical reality, allowing players to interact with fictional characters in human form, while at the same time interacting with humans who perform characters (GalBraith). So people would go to these cafГ©s as a way to bring their dating simulation games to life. It could also be a great way for people who are lonely, to find a connection with ... A Comparison of Two Different Newspapers A Comparison of Two Different Newspapers In the following essay, I intend to compare the differences and similarities in which two different newspapers a tabloid (The Mirror) and a broadsheet (The Times) report the same story. I will be looking at the presentation and the use of language as well as the basics of how the story is put forward and told. Both papers are reporting the same story in which Prince Philip made a statement along the lines that guns are no more dangerous than cricket bats following a shooting at a school in Dunblane in Scotland. In general there are many differences between tabloids and broadsheets. A tabloid is smaller than a broadsheet, usually being about half the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The headline claims the Prince to be foolish in the form of a pun foolip . In an article the lead paragraph is designed to have a large impact on the reader which sums up the story in a short space. This is useful for people who haven t got time to read the full article. It is also designed to interest the reader so they read on. In The Mirror the lead paragraph is simple and bold, full of emotion and sensational language such as sparked outrage to over exaggerate the story. The lead paragraph is designed to be short and straight to the point but it fails to mention any positive side to the Princes comment, which is revealed later on in the article. This again shows signs of The Mirror being bias. The Times is more informative and is not bias in any way. It explains how he said that members of shooting clubs were no more dangerous than members of golf or squash clubs . The paragraph also contains more honest language and less sensational language and it over exaggerates less. The final effective presentational features in the newspapers are the pictures. In The Mirror the picture makes the Prince look stupid and foolish, in this way it ties in with the headline. The picture has been taken at a particular moment and catches the Prince with a stupid look on his face. Inside the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Roethkes Use of Tone Essay Roethke s Use of Tone Childhood experiences seem to be the ones that are recollected most vividly throughout a person s life. Almost everyone can remember some aspect of his or her childhood experiences, pleasant and unpleasant alike. Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz suggests even further that this concept could be true. The dance described in this poem illustrates an interaction between father and child that contains more than the expected joyous, loving attitude between the two characters. Roethke s tone in this work exhibits the blended, yet powerful emotions that he, as a grown man, feels when looking back on this childhood experience. The author somewhat implicates feelings of resentment fused with a loving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stanza also provides the reader with the feeling of how aggressive this dance may be. Roethke is apparently referring to his father s belt buckle in the last line of the third stanza. During an aggressive act such as this, a small child would experience pain from such a man s belt buckle scraping across his ear in this fashion, yet the child refrains from any type of resistance. Perhaps this is caused by the child s fear that his father will become angry, so the child simply endures the pain and tries to enjoy the moment, for he may also feel love and attention that he may not receive regularly from his father. Bridges 3 John J. McKenna offers us further suggestions about the feelings suggested in this poem. In McKenna s article, two of the holograph manuscripts to My Papa s Waltz are discussed. McKenna implies that the changes made between these manuscripts are further evidence that this poem shows mixed emotions through the tone that Roethke utilizes. These holograph manuscripts are labeled MS A and MS B at the University of Washington where they are contained in the archives. The first of these changes discussed in McKenna s article is the gender of the child in the poem. He discusses how Roethke seemed to argue with himself about what the sex of the child should be, but finally chooses male for a few different reasons. It seems plausible that he did recognize the rough house nature of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Analysis Of James Joyce s Araby In the short story Araby, James Joyce provides the audience with a glimpse if 19th century Ireland seen through the eyes of an adolescent young man. It is this adolescence and the navies of the world that is under attack. Joyce masterfully reveals an innocence held by Araby by contrasting it with a setting filled with symbology that eludes to the hopeless reality in which he lives. Joyce injects a sense of unrealized bleakness for the protagonist by the imagery that he puts forth. North Richmond street, being blind was a quiet street except for the hour... (Joyce 200), immediately sets the atmosphere as one that is almost desolate, with iron gray clouds heavy with grief for the people below. The with the ending phrase, except for the hour (Joyce 200), reinforces this feeling. Only one hour, where life and movement grace this street but fleeting, like freshly minted snowflake landing on a cheek flushed with embarrassment. Much like a crepuscular ray, pushing through clouds, when gone, do the clouds not seem darker. The path to adult hood for Araby rests under these skies and winds thorough a morass of self truthand a sense of predestined caste. The reality of Arabys life comes into focus early on. His poor and reality destitute situation made apparent mainly by where he lives. An uninhabited house...stood at the blindend, detached from its neighbors (Joyce 200) , is revealing to the economic station of Araby. The fact that he lives with his uncle suggest that in his ... Taichii Ohno (1912 1990) is best known not as a guru but a symbol of Japan s manufacturing resurgence after World War II (Guide to Management Ideas and Gurus. 2008). Ohno worked in Toyota, a Japanese car company as a production engineer. At the end of second world war, when Toyota s productivity was way below that of its competitors, the president of Toyota Motor Company highlighted that they must catch up with America within three years. Otherwise, the automobile industry of Japan will not survive. Ohno and his associates then came to America to study about the manufacturing process and after that invented Just in Time manufacturing management method. The principle of Just in Time (JIT) is to produce and/or deliver the right quantity of products, of the right quality, within the right time and at the right place in order to increase productivity, efficiency and to decrease costs and wastes associated with overproduction. According to International Journal of Economics, Business and Finance (2013), JIT consists of two main elements which must be integrated together to function in harmony including human resources, planning based on the elimination of wastes. However, he winds it all up with the punch line which culminates in the understanding of the build up by the reader. • 22. Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran s... William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is a troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step father murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branaghs and Gregory Doran s portrayals of the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlets relationship with his mother Gertrude. Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated with the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is dressed neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe Gertrude s position of power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and demonstrates how Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom. On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds. The use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves and society while the dark blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Debate Over The Dormant Commerce Clause Essay Though there are a plethora of Supreme Court cases relying on the dormant Commerce Clause to invalidate state laws in order to uphold a national free market, there is also a long history of dissenting justices in dormant Commerce Clause cases. For instance, Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas commonly criticize the dormant Commerce Clausein their opinions. This lack of cohesion among Justices over the very existence of the legal concept makes it challenging for states to determine whether they are crafting Constitutional legislation and difficult for district and appeals judges to decide cases. The main criticisms of the dormant Commerce Clause include that the doctrine forces judicial activism, leads to unpredictable results, and lacks a theoretical basis in the Constitution. Justice Thomas stated that the doctrine requires the court to function more as legislator than as judges because of the policy judgements that judges must do when weighing competing interests at stake. Justice Scalia criticized the doctrine, stating that it has been inherently unpredictable unpredictable not just because we have applied its standards poorly or inconsistently, but because it requires us and the lower courts to accommodate, like a legislature, the inevitably shifting variables of a national economy. Public policy requires a collaboration of ideas with purposes and the means of achieving them. Society plays an important role in policymaking and utilization, which improves implementation not only in the public sector but also in the private sector (Peters, 2016). Governmentagencies at all levels can manage and support policies. A reported by Professor Donald F. Kettl (2014) described local zoning officials in Oso, Washington did not inform people of the potential risk of building their homes on the hillside. Also, federal, state , and local officials did not share information well enough, so that decision makers were not aware of the risks involved (Kettl,2014). The inadequate communication and collaboration between the levels of government resulted in lack of resources for tragedy stricken communities. For instance, local nonprofit agencies offered more aid than federal, state, and local governments and national organizations. The mudslide tragedy of Oso, Washington buried many homes and 44 people lost their lives. Natural disasters are incidents that affect the population by causing physical and emotional damages, loss of life, property damages, and sometimes emphasizes the failure of public administrative processes (Donahue Tuohy,2006, p.5). This discovery led her to the genetics department at A.I. DuPont Children s Hospital. For a child with developmental delays, I only saw that she lit up the room with her energy and friendly nature, which made me fall in love with her as she explored the room. While the counselor consulted her parents, Mia continued to come up to me and grab my hands, something that she apparently did quite frequently. During the appointment, her mother began to cry, worried that she may have inadvertently caused Mia s condition during pregnancy. Her father had concerns that his first child may never be able to live a normal life and have children of her own. The counselor eased the parents concerns by educating them on her syndrome and basic genetics as well as getting them in contact with a support group for children with the same syndrome. Mia and her family went home well informed and in good spirits despite the devastating news they received.
