Powerful Enlightened Depots
Enlightened despotism is defined as a form of government in the 18th century in which absolute
monarchs pursued legal, social, and educational reforms inspired by the Enlightenment (The Editors
of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The magnitude of the philosophy movement known as the
Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western society. The philosophers believed that in order to
improve society they had to enlighten the monarchs. The views of the Enlightenment did to find
their way inside the palaces of Europe s leaders; however, the monarchs retained their great power
of absolute rule. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great of Prussia,
Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. These leaders all attempted to bring their
respective countries into a new age. The basis of enlightened despotismwas the idea of improving
the lives of a country s citizens. This concept of leadership during this time was ultimately a good
idea, but it was not successfully exercised to its fullest extent. From a young age, Frederick the
Great took a great liking to culture and literature. He was especially infatuated with the language
and lifestyle of the French. The French philosopher Voltairewas a friend to Frederick and had a great
influence on his Enlightenment ideals. He initially hid his love of the Enlightenment during his
reign, but later he began to realize how the philosophies of the movement could actually advance
and fortify his state. He

Internet Security Metrics
Security Metrics
As the Internet becomes ubiquitous due to wireless technologies including 3G and pervasive Wi
Fi Hotspots, there is the need to continually improve security technologies. One of the most
effective approaches to doing this is to define a series of metrics for measuring security levels
attained (Idika, Bhargava, 2012). The following is a listing of security metrics and their definitions:
In the area of Incident Management the following metrics apply:
Mean Cost per Incident This the average cost per security incident from a dollars and time
perspective. The cost per incident is often measured in terms of opportunity cost of how the time
could have been invested in other tasks instead of solving the security incident (Shari, 2009).
Mean Time Between Security Incidents This is the aggregated measurement of how much time
elapses between security incidents over a given time period. The mean time between security
incidents is often measured in monthly increments and charted to compare the impact of security
strategies over time (Wang, Guo, Wang, Zhou, 2012).
Number of Incidents a very fundamental measure of security that all security platforms, even
those available for free via vendors websites, report. This is the baseline of many security
programs and measurement platforms today. This figure is often tracked over years to determine
how well investment sin security pay off over time as well.
In the area of Vulnerability Management the following are the

The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence
In her novel The Stone Angel, Margaret Laurence uses the stone angel monument to embody the
qualities of Hagar . Over the course of the novel, Hagar reflects back on the memories that have
made up her life. Hagar s loneliness and depression are self induced and brought on by her pride,
lack of emotion, stubbornness and the ignorance which she has towards anyone s opinion but her
own. The qualities of Hagar are identical with those possessed by the stone angel monument and
paralleled by Laurence many times throughout the novel. The angel was certainly not a suitable
statue to mark the death of Mrs. Currie as it was uncharacteristic of her. The statue of the angel is a
more fitting representation of Hagar s father Jason Currie and hence... Show more content on

When her son John dies she does not weep, almost as if she was made of stone. The night my son
died I was transformed to stone and never wept at all. (Laurence 243) Hagar believed if she cried
it would damage her pride and make her appear weak. She would simply not have people think
that. I wouldn t cry in front of strangers, whatever it cost me. (Laurence 242) Hagar makes love
to Bram and never lets him know that she enjoyed it. He never knew. I never let him know. I
never spoke aloud, and I made certain the trembling was all inner. (Laurence 81) She could never
allow others to know how she felt. Hagar remained emotionless throughout her life. When Bram
dies Hagar does not even dare to shed a tear. But when we d bury Bram and come home again
and lighted lamps for the evening, it was John who cried, not I. (Laurence 184) In many ways
Hagar s passionless life was identical to that of the Angel; it never shed a tear, rarely did she. Her
inability to express emotion led to her relentless ignorance of others and their opinions.
Hagar Shipley is a very stubborn woman at the age of ninety. She is very set in her ways, and does
not appreciate being told what to do. The most prominent sign of this stubbornness is when Hagar
is brought to Silverthreads nursing home to view this location. Upon this discovery Hagar attempts
to run away, only to find herself lost in a forest. The

Survey Of Security On Internet Of Things ( Iot ) Essay
Survey of Security in Internet Of Things(IoT)
Jacquelyn Rapose
School of Computing
Clemson University
Clemson, USA jrapose@g.clemson.edu Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that
has transformed our daily lives because of its distributed and ubiquitous nature. Security and
privacy issues exist with the use of the IoT and must be addressed.
In this paper, I discuss some of the security challenges that the IoT architecture has to address. I also
compare the challenges that were inherited from the technologies related to the internet and those
that appear in IoT from present networks.
Keywords IoT, security, solution.
I.INTRODUCTION
The Internet of Things is an infrastructure that connects physical devices/objects to the internet and
not just computer devices, making it possible for a user to have remote access or control over that
object. IoT has the following three categories of objects
1.General objects having communication or processing capabilities embedded in them, for e.g.
smartphones.
2.Sensing and actuating objects that collect information about their environment and manipulate it
through remote access.
3.Data capturing and Data carrying objects that use technologies like NFC to communicate. [1]
The ubiquitous nature of the Internet of Things provides many benefits, however, the security and
privacy problems related with it has to be tackled. The distributed nature of technologies that IoT
relies on is prone to many security and privacy

World Record For Fastest Production Car
You might be familiar with the car company Bugatti, now owned by Volkswagen. Their Bugatti
Veyron Super Sport holds the Guinness World Record for Fastest Production Car. The Bugatti
brand has a long history, beginning in 1909 with Automobiles Ettore Bugatti, a company founded
by Ettore Bugatti.
Ettore Bugatti was born in Italy in 1881 to a family of artists. Bugatti began to establish himself as
a car designer as early as 1901, when his Bugatti Type 2 car won a gold medal at the International
Breeding and Sport Exhibition in Milan, Italy. Bugatti carried on his family s artistic legacy in the
design of his race cars, which became renowned for their speed, power, and elegant design. But he

Here is a quote about De Monge s design philosophy from an article in the Air and Space Magazine:
De Monge left no written record of the thinking that went into the airplane (though he made some
intriguing remarks during an interview conducted late in his life, while he was working as an
automotive engineer in the United States). But [Scotty] Wilson is convinced that de Monge
adhered to the design philosophy espoused by Antoine de Saint ExupГ©ry, the beloved French
author and World War II P 38 pilot: Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add,
but when there is nothing left to take away.
An example of this philosophy was the removal of a conventional canopy (the glass enclosure
around the pilot). Most fighter aircraft at the time were built with the engine in the nose just behind
the propeller. To allow the pilot to see past the engine, these fighters were built with raised canopies
that sat on top of the fuselage. But having these extra bulges increases drag. Bugatti got around this
by putting the pilot in the nose of the aircraft, and moving the engines. The engines were put
behind the pilot and a system of drive shafts powered the propellers.
After the designs were mostly finalized, construction began. The airplane was built in Paris in the
second floor of a furniture shop.
The frame and skin of the airplane were made almost entirely out of wood, despite the difficulties
involved with shaping wood into rounded shapes. Usually, body

Essay on the vikings
Viking age has long been associated with uncontrolled piracy, when bandits swarmed out of the
northlands in their ships to burn and pillage their way across civilized Europe. During this period
much progress was achieved in terms of Scandinavian art and craftsmanship, marine technology,
exploration, and the development of commerce. It seems the Vikings did as much trading as they
did raiding. The title quot;Viking quot; includes a wide description of Nordic people; Danes,
Swedes, and Norwegians, who lived during a period of brisk Scandinavian expansion in the middle
ages, from approximately
800 to 1100 AD. This name may be derived from the old Norse vik(bay or creek). These people
came from what is now Denmark, Sweden, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ottar visited King Alfred as a peaceful trader at the same time as Alfred was waging war with
other Viking chieftains. The expansion of the Vikings was probably triggered by a population
growth out stepping the capacities of domestic resources. Archaeological evidence shows that new
farms were cleared in sparsely populated forests at the time of their expansion.
The abundance of iron in their region and their ability to forge it into weapons and arm everyone
setting off on raids helped give the
Vikings the upper hand in most battles.
The first recorded Viking raid occurred in 793 AD, the holy island of the Lindisfarne monastery
just off the Northeast shoulder of England was pillaged, around the same time, there are recorded
reports of raids elsewhere in Europe. There are narratives of raids in the Mediterranean, and as far
as the Caspian Sea. Norsemen from Kiev even attempted an attack on Constantinople, the capital of
the
Byzantine Empire. Unfortunately, in the picture handed down to us in written accounts, the
Vikings are portrayed as terrible robbers and bandits, this is strictly a single sided view; and,
while the above statement is probably true, they had other traits as well. Some of their leaders
were very skillful organizers, as evidenced by the fact that they were

E1: Reggio Emilia In 1945, Loris Malaguzzi founded the first Reggio school. His Reggio
education dominated the Italian education that was already in place. The approach of Reggio is
community led, this involves everyone in their close community but also those from outside of the
close community. Within Reggio, they repeat their ideas and activities, so that the children are
able to revisit what they were doing the day before to further their understanding of what they
were doing, but also get help if they need it. Reggio also allows the children to direct their own
learning, so if they do not fully understand what they are doing at the time, then they can go back

Children s journeys throughout education should be personal, and this is what the Montessori
approach achieves. From visiting a Montessori setting, the practitioners accomplished this as
they allowed the children to play individually Montessori thought working alone encouraged
children to become independent learners (M. Beaver, J. Brewster et all, CACHE Level 3
Childcare and Education). It is also important that they do plan times for the children to
socialize and work together as this will build their Social and Emotional development. By
providing individual learning journey books for each child, means that the child s key worker
can add notes and pictures to show to their family what they do at nursery, however these are
also available to take home and adapt them at home. E3: Maria Montessori was born in Italy in
1870. She wanted to become a doctor, so she enrolled at the University of Rome; however at this
time she began to develop an interest in children who were deprived; which at the time were
referred to as idiot children , this encouraged Maria into studying about those who were mentally
defective. Her interest then changed, and was focused into education. When she was fixed on to
this idea, she began to study the theories which were devised over the last 200 years. By 1900

The Divine Comedy by Dante Aligheri
In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, illustrates a man on his journey through three
stages of differing setting. One, being hell, and the other two being purgatory and Heaven.
However, the most frequently read section of the book is when Dante writes about the Inferno, or
hell, due to the prolific details of punishments distributed to the sinners. When he writes, Dante
appeals to all readers by completely and vividly describing all events as he makes his descent
through hell. And, complementing those descriptions, Dante strategically places historical figures
throughout history in hell to make The Divine Comedyreal and very relatable. In other words, by
doing this Dante enables the reader to connect on a more deeper level with the comedy. Not to
mention that Dante also bases his Infernooff of Christian beliefs and well known mythology also
connecting the reader further into the writing. However, Dante purposefully and masterfully does
this for a reason. In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, Dante realistically and vividly
portrays hell in a violent surreal manner in order to educate the reader, and the living for that matter,
about their potential eternal after lives if they do not follow the true path God provides. Countless
times throughout this comedy, Dante graphically conveys scenes from the Inferno to make it seem
that the reader is actually there experiencing what Dante is. Each foreign section of hell that Dante
comes across, and the

Ethical Issue And The Ethical Dilemma
Leadership Ethics Introduction In this week s assignment, we have been asked to identify an
ethical issue presented in the Devise Products Unlimited (DPU) case study. First we will discuss
the issue and the ethical dilemma it creates. Next we will look at possible recommendations for
the DPU CEO to handle this issue. The Ethical Issue First, let s start by looking at what the
ethical issue that DPU is facing. The issue that I have chosen to focus on is issue two from the
case study: DPU outsources some of the manufacturing of parts to a Third World country. The
DPU CEO recently discovered that the organization to which he outsources has been forcing
laborers to work seven days a week and 10 hours a day. These laborers receive minimal wages,
yet without the work their families could starve and they would be homeless. The organization is
the only large employer in the area, and if the DPU CEO terminated his contract with the
organization, it would likely close, leaving hundreds of people without jobs. Before addressing the
factors that are involved in this issue lets discuss some of the background information surrounding
this issue. First what is outsourcing, outsourcing is the practice of hiring an outside firm or
individual to perform contracted work as an alternative to paying employees to do it (Kokemuller,
2007). Companies use outsourcing based on expertise and cost of labor advantages. The subject of
outsourcing in its self can often time be a much

Why Is It Important To Have Salary Caps In Professional...
Money is limited. One can only buy what one has enough for. People must be efficient with their
money. One must fill all of their needs. Similar to this situation, owners of professional sports
teams can only buy players they have enough money for. Salary caps are placed on players based
on skill level and value. This could be based off of various influences such as location, fan base,
concessions sold, and much more. When some teams get more money than others, those teams get
stacked with great players that lead the teams to victory. However, some complain that they don t
have a lot of money, and state that that is the reason they don t have a good team. Therefore, the
issue of salary caps, has two sides. Although salary caps could be abused... Show more content on

Athletes in professional sports get paid a lot of money to play for famous teams. Because they
want more money, they are motivated to play better. When they do play better, they get more
money. For example, rookies, players that are new to the game, aren t paid much. However, they
want more money to support their life, so they practice more and train to be much more skilled.
Coaches then realize they will soon want more money as the years go by. Athletes practice with
their team every week, and do the drills that the coaches pick to do. If players don t get better
from this, they need to practice on their own time. It s up to the execution from the athletes
(Neiburg). This shows that athletes must be self motivated. Most of them are, when they aren t
paid much. Most veteran athletes that are already skilled have a high payroll because of salary
caps. Since it is usually cap prohibitive to release a player that gets a significant signing bonus
with this model, some teams are willing to include roster bonuses due in the first couple of days
of the second contract year (Corry). This illustrates that salary caps don t allow players to be
released right away. So, the player will get more practice with the team, and have more chances
after a bad season or two. Even if a player eventually does get released, they wouldn t be happy,
but they d be self motivated to practice as much as they can to get back on a team. Critics of this
idea say that the only way players got into a professional sports league is because they are
skilled, and already practiced a lot. Teams are also only looking for skilled players in certain
positions they need. However, the reason teams need new players in those positions is because the
players that are already in those positions have weaknesses. Since there isn t any signing bonus
proration, teams have more cap

Glory is coveted by most and the pursuit of it can cause untold changes within an individual s
character. In spite of this, glory in whatever field possesses the threat of becoming an obsession.
Thus, the increasing extent to which one pursues their passion through their journey will shift it to
obsession and rid the subject of innocence often through violence. Both Victor Frankenstein and R.
Walton attempt to take on such a quest, however, Frankensteindisplays the adverse effects of such
an obsession.
The desire to create and discover is one endured by both Walton and Frankenstein; each realizing
that in attaining such glory, one must sacrifice their innocence. Walton expresses his need to
ВЁaccomplish some great purposeВЁ, citing that, to him, glory was more valuable than the
pecuniary advantage he already possesses (Shelley, p. 3). Despite his own thinking, Walton s
own search is truly one for self knowledge and wisdom, as his own soul is overcome with a
ВЁlove for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellousВЁ (Shelley, p.6). Thus, Walton is still
seeking to fulfill the peregrination his passion has set him on, hoping that he will find answers to
his own true purpose, under the disguise of glory (Foster, Chapter 1). Walton has yet to experience
a shift from passion to obsession, and thus, his innocence and naivety is still secured to his psyche.
He believes that this search will only bring him

Slaughter From War Strikes Antietam Analysis
Slaughter from War Strikes Antietam!
On September 17th, The Battle of Antietam took place and is the bloodiest single day in American
History. Many men sacrificed their lives in this battle to protect what we hold dear in unity as a
nation. In this battle 23,000 casualties, dead, injured, and missing, were suffered in just 12 hours of
warfare(Staff 1).
The four men that lie dead in this photograph are all in an open field and all appear to be in
Union uniforms. These men were presumingly lined shoulder to shoulder, as is custom in war,
while advancing on the confederate soldiers lines. The fence behind these soldiers is missing many
of its planks suggesting that many bullets were fired at these soldiers as the advanced towards the
confederate lines. This fence is symbolic because with the fence post missing it truly shows the
amount of fire that these men were under as they marched their way across the battlefield(Battle of
Antietam 1).
This battle came after a brutal campaign by the South who had just won The 2nd Battle of Bull
Run as well as The Seven Days Battle. Lee s unprecedented plan to start invading the North was
seen as unorthodox because all the South needed to do was survive until the citizen s of the North
got upset with the war and lost the will to fight. Lee s plan to invade the North was to invade the
Maryland which remained loyal to the union and get a crushing blow in union territory. He was also
hoping that some dissenting slave owners in Maryland would join the Southern forces to help fight
the North in this battle. Unfortunately for Lee, when those that dissented saw the condition that his

The American Dream
As defined by James Adams in his book The American Epic , the American Dream is the ideal of
this land being the land where life would be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with equal
opportunity for all. A land where people could achieve their goals and be respected regardless of
their fortuitous circumstances of birth or position. This concept is what draws in America s diverse
inhabitants, the idea of this utopia of a place where everyone and anyone can succeed is what
America was supposed to be founded on. Another popular definition of the American Dreamis the
belief that everyone has the chance to be successful and happy, all they have to do is work hard.
Both of these concepts, first popularize early 1900s, has yet to come to be. So the question of

Driven To Distraction Larry Rosen Analysis
Our Distractions
I am convinced that learning to live with both internal and external distractions is all about
teaching the concept of focus. (Rosen 11) Are we being driven to distraction? This question is
posed in Larry Rosen s essay Driven To Distraction; he argues students are distracted by
technology. He makes his argument effective through use of logos, tone and rhetorical patterns.
However, Rosen s essay is weakened by not addressing opposing arguments and by using a false
authority fallacy. He explains how technology greatly distracts students nowadays and then offers
techniques we can apply to help increase their focus and encourage them to be less plugged in . In
his essay, Rosen uses many logos throughout to create a persuasive argument. He uses statistics Two

Hurricane Katrina Case Study
1. Did human activity contribute to the severity of the storm, or was it an entirely natural disaster?
Support your answer with evidence and citations. The severity of Hurricane Katrina was impacted
largely by the location of its landfall. The storm was well tracked by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA noted that the high pressure of the storm at
landfall, the strength of the system and shallow waters offshore all were contributing factors to the
severity of the storm. (Graumann, Houston, Lawrimore, Levinson, Lott, McCown, Stephens,
Wuertz: 2005, pg 4). When the storm struck, however, it was found that those who were
financially better off were able to evacuate easier, leaving those in lower income areas to remain
amidst the devastation. Nearly a half million people were excluded from the cities, when FEMA
camps were implemented as a means to reconstruct public housing. (Smith, 2006). The human
activity leading up to the storm, including levees constructed on the shore as well as the NOAA
announcement of a hurricane warning, had been intended to protect the residents of Louisiana and
Mississippi. Unfortunately, efforts to prepare those who would be most devastated by the storm
failed. The governmental response in the wake of the storm greatly worsened the devastation of
the storm. What is called glory seeking was the government s way of encouraging the private
sector to get involved with disaster relief. However, the Federal Emergency

Courting And Courtship

admires as well, but the guy doesn t need to know that yet. As time goes by, ways of courting

They should seek the approval of their parents first. Teenage boys should also seek guidance to
their parents in picking the best girl for him. To understand better the role of the parents in courtship
, understand first the reason why courtship happens in the first place. Courtship is not a game, it
isn t a trial and error kind of thing but it is a serious matter. Courtship is something you have to
think deeply and decide carefully. You don t just do it unmindfully or it will leave you with
heartache and tragedy. That s why you have parents to provide counsel and guidance. They have
experienced going through that stage and have felt what it s like to admire, to love, to be rejected
and to be heartbroken. They know the consequences if you date the person who isn t meant for
you. So it is important to heed and obey their advice. They will help you in choosing your lifetime

Radio Act Of 1912 Essay
Imagine if you were the captain on the Titanic and it was just struck by an iceberg. Your
automatic action is to send a distress signals for help and get everybody on lifeboats. Everyone
survives and lives happily ever after. What really happened was the distress signals got jammed
and it delayed help. 1,000 lives were lost and the act of 1912 was born. In the early days of radio,
radio was poorly regulated and created chaos. In the early days, the radio industry was in chaos
due to poor regulations and uncontrolled rapid growth. The Radio Act of 1912 was an
unsuccessful attempt at regulation because it didn t allow the government to deny radio
broadcasting licenses [1]. In fact, the law did not even mention radio broadcasting since radio was
not common when the law was made. Even though the law required that radio operators to be
licensed, it did not allow the denial of radio licenses. Over the span of 21... Show more content on

In 1928 the law called the Davis Amendment was passed. Every zone had to have equal
allocations of licenses, time of operation, station power, and wavelength. It made radio more
consistent, therefore audiences enjoyed a better listening experience. The Davis Amendment asked
many radio stations to relocate because no matter the size of location the number of stations had to
be kept the same. In 1934 Congress passed the Communications Act, establishing the Federal
Communications Commission, which regulates interstate and international communications by
radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S.

Electronic Cards Should Not Be Compact And Easy
This Single Card Wants To Replace All the Plastic in Your Wallet
We live in an era where everything we want should be compact and easy. No one wants to work
extra by carrying anything that s big when you can just carry something compact, which is simpler.
Wallets were made, so that money (cash) can be kept together instead of just keeping it in pocket.

Media Cost
After the initial outlay for the drive, you ll be faced with the cost of the storage media the drive
uses. Keep in mind that what seems like a bargain may be a moneypit in disguise. For example
floppy disks are still the cheapest per unit media at approximately 50 cents each, but on a per
megabyte cost basis (around 35 cents per megabyte), they re the most costly form of storage.
Also on the expensive end of the spectrum are 640 MB, Mag Optical disks, at about 5.5cents per

Sarah Williams Poem The Old Astronomer
пѓЁQuotations about nights 1.I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night ~ Sarah
Williams Renowned English poet and novelist Sarah Williams quoted this line in her poem, The
Old Astronomer . The dying protagonist in the poem gives a final advice to his student to not
give up and continue on his journey fearlessly. The poet has used the night and stars to give out
the message that nothing in the world should be feared, and that, there is a good side to even the
worst possible things. What makes a difference is our perspective towards it. We should be
courageous and try not to pay attention to the stereotypical grim image of something, but rather

Of course nights are when the turmoil we faced the whole day takes a toll on us and our fatigue
levels are at peak. But nights are also when we just let go and go with the flow. It is when we
take our heart in our hands and do not consider thinking about things so much. We just let go of
the things we keep hiding from the world the whole day, and let it all out. Very often, late night
hours are considered as hours when the most honest confessions are made. So, some truths can
only be revealed when it is dark, rather than in the bright daylight. 4.I like the night. Without the
night, we would never see the stars ~Stephenie Meyer The line quoted by the author known for
her vampire romance series called Twilight depicts her love towards the nights as nights are the
time when there are stars and the moon, symbols of peace and beauty. A night out with the stars
above accompanied by the pale moonlight is enough to get rid of all the melancholy and
commotion of the day. Metaphorically too, one who has witnessed the darkness and silence of the
night beneath the moon and the stars and never paid attention to how beautiful it is, he or she
would be missing out on one of the most marvelous creations of God. 5.Night is the other half of

Essay about Tim O Brien s the Things They Carried
Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried is not a novel about the Vietnam War.
It is a story about the soldiers and their experiences and emotions that are brought
about from the war. O Brien makes several statements about war through these dynamic
characters. He shows the violent nature of soldiers under the pressures of war, he
makes an effective antiwar statement, and he comments on the reversal of a social deviation
into the norm. By skillfully employing the stylistic technique of specific, conscious
detail selection and utilizing connotative diction, O Brien thoroughly and convincingly makes
each point.
The violent nature that the soldiers acquired during their tour in Vietnam is
one of O Brien s predominant themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

O Brien makes a valid, effective antiwar statement in The Things They Carried.
The details he includes give the reader insight into his opinions concerning the
Vietnam War and the draft that was used to accumulate soldiers for the war. While thinking of
escaping to Canada, he says: I was drafted to fight a war I hated. . .The American
war seemed to me wrong (44). O Brien feels that U.S. involvement in Vietnamese affairs
was unnecessary and wasteful. He includes an account of his plan to leave the country
because he did not want to risk losing his life for a cause he did not believe in. Here
O Brien shows the level of contempt felt towards the war; draft dodging is dangerous. He was
not a radical antiwar enthusiast, however, for he takes only a modest stand against the
war (44). While not condoning the fighting, he does not protest the war except for
minimally, peacefully, and privately doing so. His dissatisfaction with the drafting
process is included in his statement, I was a liberal, for Christ s sake: if they needed
fresh bodies, why not draft some back to the stone age hawk? (44). O Brien s point of drafting only
those who approve involvement in the war is clearly made while his political
standpoint is simultaneously revealed. The

Essay The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission
Abstract: The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission and its possible effects on the
institutional balance and the question of legitimacy
I. Defining Corruption
The first chapter is an attempt to define corruption. It is important to divide overlapping and
complicated terms such as corruption, scandal and fraud. Corruption is defined as an illegal
transaction, where both actors benefit from their special position in the market or the government.
Scandal is the public reaction to allegations of corruption and thus it is interconnected with the
issue of legitimacy. Fraud, however is a purely criminal cathegory.

II. The Organization of the European Commission
The Commission is at thte heart of the Union. It has a very important role in formulating policies,
initiating legislation, overseeing implementation, make administrative decisions.
The Commission had a great impact on the poltics of the Communities from the earliest times. The
ambitions of the Commission to gain more influence in European decision making caused frequent
conflict with the Council of Ministers, which saw the strengthening of the supranational
Commission as a main threat to the souvereignity of the member states. This conflict was
accentuated at the Luxembourg crisis in 1965, which was the greatest institutional crisis of the
Community. The crisis was caused by De Gaulle`s resistance of the Commission`s proposal of
introducing majority voting in the Council instead of unanimity. The French President paralysed
the working of the Community by practicing the quot;empty chair quot; politics, boykotting the
Council of Ministers. The crisis was solved by he Luxembourg compromise, which kept the veto of
the member states.
The first sign of corruption in the Commission was the 1979 report of the Court of Auditors, which
accused the commissioners of using the community funds for private purposes and scrunitized the

Costing and Pricing Decisions
Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS
Costing and Pricing Decisions
Cost Allocations
Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect
costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect
costs can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to
calculate fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately.
Three common costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs
and opportunity costs (Jiambalvo, 2007).
Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint
products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs.
A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the
assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about
the company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if
they are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The
last way Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine
the opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based
on sunk costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on
being able to price their future products appropriately.
Opportunity Costs
An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of
this would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying
your credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a
result of not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo,
2007).

because the Tigris and Euphrates river was a source of trade for the industries to sell their

of its industries such as leather goods, textiles, paper, metal work, and perfumes. In other words,
people from other cities like Egypt came to Baghdad in order to trade their products in exchange

This is a familiar scene in the northernmost part of Ghana, which according to the Ghana Poverty
Reduction Strategy II, suffers from extreme poverty. These northern regions have the highest levels
of malnutrition and stunting among children, the highest child morbidity and mortality rates, the
most recurrent cases of guinea worm and other water borne diseases, and not surprisingly, the
lowest school enrollment and completion rates especially among girls.
Healthier Children Stay in School
To respond to these needs, CRS began a School Health Education Program (SHEP) in partnership

the study of aerodynamics and gravity Essay

Aerodynamics is the study of force on an object. It has been called the science of flight.

Why couldn t the apple go up, or left, or right? Why did it go down? In his experiments, he found
that an invisible force is pulling us down and keeping everything on the ground. This explained
why the apple fell down and not in any other direction. Newton figured out that the force keeps
everything on the earth. He discovered that the force even held the atmosphere around the earth.
Newton called this force gravity. For example, when you jump, you come back down to earth. If
there was no gravity, you would float up and disappear into space. He also discovered different
planets have more or less gravity. For instance, Pluto has almost the same amount of gravity as
earth, but the moon has much less gravity than the earth. If you jumped on the moon, it would take
you more time to get down. Since there is less gravity on other planets, their atmosphere does not
keep in much oxygen, thus it is harder to breathe on other planets. That is why astronauts wear
spacesuits, to give them air. Because planets with weak atmospheres cannot hold in much heat, it is
cold on the other planets, except for those close to the sun.
Since we have already figured out who discovered gravity in the physics section, then we will go
straight to what gravity does and how it affects us. Gravity holds the atmosphere. The atmosphere
holds heat and air as well and it blocks us from the sun s harmful rays. Without the atmosphere we
would all die. We would either choke

and was written by J.R.R Tolkien. Later on, this book was also made into a movie, which was

In the book, it is said that Bilbo is the one who fights Smaug and defeats him. The author wrote,
It was at this point that Bilbo stopped. Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did.
The tremendous things that happened afterwards were as nothing compared to it. He fought the
real battle in the tunnel alone, before he ever saw the vast danger that lay in wait... (Tolkien 214
215). Here, it clearly says that Bilbo fights the dragon alone in the mountain, without support
from the dwarves. The purpose for this is to make the readers see that Bilbo is transforming to
be much more brave, strong, and clever. This way, it is more convincing to think that he can
take on the big boss all by himself. J.R.R Tolkien wants Bilbo to be more independent in this
situation and not rely on the dwarves. This impacts the storyline by having the readers look
back and compare how Bilbo behaved before he had any experience of being a burglar. On the
other hand, the movie has Smaug conflicting with the rest of Bilbo s friends, making Bilbo seem
useless in the background. Although Bilbo was alone with the dragon for a few minutes, he had
to call the dwarves for help afterward. The movie also has the dwarves distracting Smaug, and

If a woman displayed herself in a sexy manner, as Sanaubar did, she would be considered
dishonorable (8). If an unwed woman held a conversation with a man, she would be seen as a
lochak (146), or in other words a brazen girl. The honor of a girl mattered so much because
virtuous girls brought in respectable suitable suitors (148), and one of the most important things
an Afghani girl needed was a husband. This cultural belief gave men an overbearing advantage
once they married. The men essentially controlled how their wives lived their lives. The prime
example in this case would be General Taheri, who had many opinions on how women should
behave. The General forbade his wife to sing in public because he thought it was a job for
people with lesser reputations (177), he didn t approve of women drinking alcohol, (183), and
was constantly worried about the public perception of his family. Baba, to some extent also
represented these views. He talked about losing ones honor in a very somber manner, and believed
that a man s honor rested in the chastity of a wife. Or a daughter. (145)
The bulk of the blame for the tyranny of Afghani women falls on the Taliban. The Taliban was
started in in response to an infamous gang rape that occurred in

Privatization And Privatization Of Privatization
PRIVITIZATION
INTRODUCTION
Privatization basically being the process of transferring ownership of specific property and
business transactions basically from a governed owned operation to a private operation. This focus
has been widely used in the context of the organizations and industrial operations in the capital
market. (Cook Kirkpatrick, 1988, Cook Paul, 1986; Kay Thompson, 1986)
There is need to justify the different reasons why privatization is important in the context of the
operations. The main dimension that has lead and facilitated privatization in most of the economies
basically includes dimensions of.
THE IMPACT OF PRIVITIZATION IN TODAYS ECONOMY
In the consideration of the current market in term of the global market its evident that that
privatization being the order of the day it has been associated with dimensions of nullifying and dis
functioning main function of the state corporate.
This then being the case there is need to consider the history and the main theories relating with
privatization.
THEORIES OF PRIVITIZATION

This then being the case its evident that privatization is crucial in ensuring and facilitating
performance gains and strengthening the notion of ownership matters. (Commander Killick, 1988).

The Invention Of The Printing Press
You can t stop people from printing what they want to print. Alan Sugar
The Printing Press, a 15th century invention, allowed scholars to print and distribute their work
throughout Europe. Church authority denounced the spread of scientific ideas encouraged by the
invention of the printing press. They banned scientific works, like Galileo s Sidereus Nuncius, as
academics published their research. Roman Catholic Church authority advocated for biblical ideas,
which opposed scientific studies like the heliocentric theory and the study of kinetics. Ecclesiastical
doctrine contested the heliocentric theory, Galileo s research, and Newton s laws of motion,
demonstrating the incompatibility between scientific studies and theology.
Copernicus challenged the Roman Catholic Church with his Heliocentric Theory. In his book De
Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium Libri VI, he explained his theory: the hypothesis that planets
revolved around the sun rather than the Earth (Williams, L.Pearce). His proposition contradicted
Bartolomeu Velho s geocentric theory, a view more compatible with church doctrine, suggesting
that all motion centered around Earth (Velho Bartolomeu). The Bible established that [God] set the
earth on its foundation, therefore [Earth] can never be moved (Psalm 104:5). By claiming that
Earth remains stationary rather than revolving around the sun, the Church sided with Bartolomeu
Velho. In contrast, Copernicus questioned the Church, asking why we [do] not admit, with

The Real Inspector Hound. Essay
The Real Inspector Hound Contrasting settings, ideals and people dominate The Real Inspector
Hound. Almost every character has an opposite, and is otherwise totally unique. Cynthia is
opposite to Felicity, Simon is the contrast of Magnus, and so on. Tom Stoppard has included these
contrasts for a variety of reasons and effects that combine to create the disturbing effect of the play
incredibly effectively. But what individual effects do his characters create by opposing each other
so accurately. At the start of the play, Stoppard deliberately confuses the audience with the
opposing characters of Birdboot and Moon, at first; the audience is left to indulge in the view of

Birdboot is a proletarian moron, just the sort of person they like to imagine when they think of a
critic. Birdboot asks where Higgs is; moon instantly replies with a paragraph of life, the universe
and everything, now the audience know that the two people are critics, and they also know
Moon is the other type of critic, the sort who does waffle about the meaning of life and reality in
his reviews. Ironically, despite these characters being totally obvious as opposites, as the
audience have worked out from just a few lines of speech, Moon defines his opposite as Higgs,
leaving Birdboot out of the question. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard s
flimsy attempt to create realistic critics. This effect is just what Stoppard wanted from the
opposing critics in the opening scene. The audiences is confused as to what is the play, and what
is not, they are waiting for what they think is the play to start, they are become increasingly
agitated and are passing the time scoffing about how truly terrible Stoppard s characters are, if
Stoppard is lucky, they may also be beginning to look forward to a pantomime. These effects allow
Stoppard to introduce the comical character of Mrs Drudge with far greater effect than would have
been possible had Stoppard simply introduced her from the start. Stoppard even manages to increase

Global Financial Crisis By The Wall Street Crisis

roots causes were observed like speculation, fragility of the system, greed of the managers which
adversely affected the market. The global financial crisisof 2008 is a major ongoing financial crisis,
the worst of its kind since the Great Depression (The Great Depression originated in the United

As demand for the CDOs started growing across the global investment community, the investment
bankers (like Lehman) who were meant to sell these instruments also started investing a significant
portion of their own capital in these.
As Wall Street firms like Lehman were churning more and more home loans into CDOs and
selling them or investing their own money, there was a pressure on the banks to issue more loans
so that they can be sold to the Wall Street firms in return for a commission. Slowly banks started
lowering the credit quality for availing a home loan and aggressively used agents to source new
loans. This slippery slope went to such an extent that in 2005, almost anyone in the U.S could buy a
home worth $100,000 (45 lakhs INR) or more without income proof, without other assets, without
credit history, sometimes even without a proper job.
The U.S. housing market went into a classic speculative bubble. Home loans were easy to get, so
more and more people were buying houses. The increased demand for houses caused the price to
increase. The rising prices created even more demand, as people started to look at homes as
investments investments that never went down in value.
In late 2006, Mortgage lenders noticed that people would choose a house, sign all the mortgage
papers, and then default on their very first payment. Although no one could really hear it, that was

African American Family In The 1970 s
Once again, in the 1970s, changes in the structure and dynamics of the American family are
present in the popular 1970s TV show The Brady Bunch . Perhaps the biggest change that is
present is the structure of the family portrayed. The Brady s, the TV shows main subject, would be
considered a blended family. Mike Brady, the father in the show, has three sons from a previous
relationship; he marries Carol, who has three daughters from a previous relationship, there
marriage brings both families together. I would classify the family as an upper middle class
family, based on the appearance of their house and the presence of a full time maid at their house.

The family that is depicted in this TV show is the Huxtable family, this is a African American
family with a nuclear family structure, as it contains a married couple living with their five
children. This is the first TV show that we watched that s main subject is an African American
family. In the previous TV shows viewed there was a lack of any type of African American
population in them. Based on the careers of the parents, one being a doctor and the other being
a lawyer, I can assume that this is an upper middle class family. For the first time, in this show
we see the children being a bit rebellious, and less submissive to the authority of their parents. It
appears that both parents share equal authority, and an argument can be made that the mother is
more authoritative then the father in this show, as the father seems to take more of a relaxed
comical approach to confrontations with his children. This show does correlate with the real
culture of the decade, as for the first time African American s are able to hold high level jobs
such as the ones that both parents in this show have. However, this show may possess a false
narrative, as through studying this period in time there is still obvious racial barriers that are
being put against the African American race. The Cosby Show provides the first look of a African
American family and also portrays some things that are happening for the first time in U.S history

Reasonabl Reasonable Suspicion In Law Enforcement
Probable cause and reasonable suspicion in law enforcement are important terms used as a
guideline to police offers or law enforcement agencies (Lushbaugh, 2012). Each officer is
required to deal with every circumstance in light of the reasonable justification. Law
enforcement officers and agencies are usually required to determine if there is sensible doubt or
probable cause that can lead them to performing and taking part of certain actions in regards to a
specific criminal circumstance. Probable cause is characterized as the activities or actions that are
obvious and directs towards being part of evidence. The confirmation of evidence is acquired and
obtained rationally in which will provide the officer with the knowledge of knowing one has
committed a crime. According to the Fourth Amendment 1791, a warrant is only issued when there
is a probable cause for arrest of a suspect (Lushbaugh, 2012).... Show more content on

The English Industrial Revolution Essay
Textile manufacture changed dramatically in the 1700s. Key inventions such as Hargreaves
spinning jenny (1764), Arkwright s water frame (1769), Crompton s spinning mule (1779) and
Cartwright s power loom (1784) reduced human labour by up to a third. Early models of these
machines tended to be unreliable, and some looms were ruined by machine breakers as a statement
against the replacement of human labour with machines.
The main centres of textile production in England became Greater Manchester, Lancashire and
West Yorkshire. Leeds, for example, boasted around 170 scribbling machines (which prepare wool
for spinning) by 1786; this had unfortunate consequences for workers, who signed a petition in that
year stating that twelve men are thrown out of employ for every single machine used in scribbling .
By 1830, over half of British exports consisted of cotton textiles. People began to favour the ...

Powerlifting Squat
Before you get under the bar, there are a few necessary steps needed to perform a proper
powerlifting squat. Some off these steps aren t full required, but are highly recommended. The
items required for a competition squat are a 100% polyester powerlifting suit, flat bottom tenny
shoes, 100% cotton tighty whities, and long ankle socks. The first step in preparing for a
competition squat is putting on the suit. The US high school powerliftingassociation requires all
lifters of both genders to wear tight and white underwear or go coverless. Most lifters prefer to
go coverless for more comfort. A powerlifting suit should be as tight as possible for maximum
support. Now it s time for socks and shoes. Your socks must be 100% cotton and white or the
judges won t let you lift. Your shoes must be flat bottom because any shoe with a long heel can
lead to major ankle and knee injuries. Next is the dreaded warm up. The warm up is a crucial
part of powerlifting. Not warming up can lead to major joint discomfort and soreness. When
warming up, make sure to treat it as an actual lift. Try to imagine the judges giving you your

The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza Essay
I Thought There Would Be Answers: The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza
At the request of Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 1800 s Dominique Vivant Baron Denon French
artist and diplomat was to record the exploits and accomplishments of Bonaparte s Egyptian
campaign. In 1802, he published his travels. The perfection given by the Egyptians to the
representations of their animals proves that they were not without an idea of that bold style which
expresses much character in a few lines, and their execution tended to the grave, and to ideal
perfection, as we have already remarked in instance of the Sphinx. The generally accepted date of
the great Sphinx of Giza is 2500BC attributed to Pharaoh Khafre of the fourth dynasty. If this is the

The Sphinx represents the guardian of the Giza plateau. Revered in Ancient Egypt the feline form
has a long association with royalty, power and protection. An evacuation lead by French
archaeologist Dr. Alain Zivie believed inscriptions suggest Egyptians bred lions as well as buried
them in sacred cemeteries. In 2001, Zive and his crew found a mummified lion in the tomb of a
woman understood to be the wet nurse of Pharaoh Tutankhamen dated to 1430. The wear of the
lion s teeth indicate it lived to old age and was in captivity.
One theorist, Robert Temple, declares the Sphinx is not a lion at all, because of the flat back,
lack of mane, and the disproportion of the head. He believes the original statue was craved
before the old kingdom and portrayed the Egyptian god Anubis, with a head of a jackal and
body of a man (see figure 1). Anubis is traditionally associated with mummification and the
afterlife. Temple believes that between 2200 2000BC, the monument was defaced then re carved
during the fourth dynasty in the image of Pharaoh Khafre. He also presumes the Sphinx
enclosure was flooded with Nile water to make an island. He uses a passage from Herodotus that
discusses the cruelty of Pharaoh Khufu and how the slaves had to dig the moat for his burial
chamber For this they said, the ten years were spent, and for the underground he caused to be made
as sepulchral chambers for himself in an island, having

A Short Note On Energy Drink And India Essay
V energy drink was first launched in New Zealand in August 1977, it was first expected that the
product would produce and sell domestically (within NZ). It was such a massive hit in NZ, it
soon took over 60% of the overall drinks market in NZ in 2003 and over 53% in Australia,
making it the most popular drink in both countries. V energy drink is currently being sold in 18
different countries including Spain, Australia, Argentina, and the UK. India is not currently selling
V Energy drink. We have chosen to send this product to India because it has grown very popular
in a short time, within NZ and Australia, and it has all the ingredients that would suit the Indian
taste. The energy drinks market in India is at a nascent stage and it has huge potential for growth.
There is more than one reason why I am taking this product to India and I will explain below.
пѓ cultural / social environment: Increased urbanisation, rising disposable income and growing
health consciousness among the Indian youth has increased the demand for non carbonated drinks
called energy drinks. At the same time long and erratic working hours and the increasing
occurrence of social gatherings are driving Indian consumers towards consumption of energy
drinks which are primarily classified as non alcoholic, caffeinated beverages and sports drinks.
India is one of the fastest developing consumer markets, especially for a product targeted towards
the young and as well as young adults, mostly belonging to upper

Ivan Boszormenyi Nagy is also a contributor to this therapy (Parrott, III, 2003). This theory is based
on helping maintain a positive family structure and to prevent further emotional damage to the
children or any other person in the family. There are several things that can be done in order for
the help families work through a traumatic experience. When you are counseling a person that has
been subjected to a family prone to alcoholism this child tends to show different ways of
functioning and you have to take that into consideration as to how to proceed. Family therapy is
often encouraged when you are trying to repair a family that has gone through a crisis because
this can show them that they can work together as a team to get past the issue. In most other
therapies, the counseling session has two individuals present, the counselor and the client.
According to PsychologyCampus.com (2004 2008), family systems therapy is based on the idea
that individuals are best understood through assessing the entire family (para. 1). This is where
family therapy differs and can be challenging. There may be two family members in therapy, for

  • 2. Powerful Enlightened Depots Enlightened despotism is defined as a form of government in the 18th century in which absolute monarchs pursued legal, social, and educational reforms inspired by the Enlightenment (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The magnitude of the philosophy movement known as the Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western society. The philosophers believed that in order to improve society they had to enlighten the monarchs. The views of the Enlightenment did to find their way inside the palaces of Europe s leaders; however, the monarchs retained their great power of absolute rule. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great of Prussia, Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. These leaders all attempted to bring their respective countries into a new age. The basis of enlightened despotismwas the idea of improving the lives of a country s citizens. This concept of leadership during this time was ultimately a good idea, but it was not successfully exercised to its fullest extent. From a young age, Frederick the Great took a great liking to culture and literature. He was especially infatuated with the language and lifestyle of the French. The French philosopher Voltairewas a friend to Frederick and had a great influence on his Enlightenment ideals. He initially hid his love of the Enlightenment during his reign, but later he began to realize how the philosophies of the movement could actually advance and fortify his state. He ... • 3. Internet Security Metrics Security Metrics As the Internet becomes ubiquitous due to wireless technologies including 3G and pervasive Wi Fi Hotspots, there is the need to continually improve security technologies. One of the most effective approaches to doing this is to define a series of metrics for measuring security levels attained (Idika, Bhargava, 2012). The following is a listing of security metrics and their definitions: In the area of Incident Management the following metrics apply: Mean Cost per Incident This the average cost per security incident from a dollars and time perspective. The cost per incident is often measured in terms of opportunity cost of how the time could have been invested in other tasks instead of solving the security incident (Shari, 2009). Mean Time Between Security Incidents This is the aggregated measurement of how much time elapses between security incidents over a given time period. The mean time between security incidents is often measured in monthly increments and charted to compare the impact of security strategies over time (Wang, Guo, Wang, Zhou, 2012). Number of Incidents a very fundamental measure of security that all security platforms, even those available for free via vendors websites, report. This is the baseline of many security programs and measurement platforms today. This figure is often tracked over years to determine how well investment sin security pay off over time as well. In the area of Vulnerability Management the following are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence In her novel The Stone Angel, Margaret Laurence uses the stone angel monument to embody the qualities of Hagar . Over the course of the novel, Hagar reflects back on the memories that have made up her life. Hagar s loneliness and depression are self induced and brought on by her pride, lack of emotion, stubbornness and the ignorance which she has towards anyone s opinion but her own. The qualities of Hagar are identical with those possessed by the stone angel monument and paralleled by Laurence many times throughout the novel. The angel was certainly not a suitable statue to mark the death of Mrs. Currie as it was uncharacteristic of her. The statue of the angel is a more fitting representation of Hagar s father Jason Currie and hence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When her son John dies she does not weep, almost as if she was made of stone. The night my son died I was transformed to stone and never wept at all. (Laurence 243) Hagar believed if she cried it would damage her pride and make her appear weak. She would simply not have people think that. I wouldn t cry in front of strangers, whatever it cost me. (Laurence 242) Hagar makes love to Bram and never lets him know that she enjoyed it. He never knew. I never let him know. I never spoke aloud, and I made certain the trembling was all inner. (Laurence 81) She could never allow others to know how she felt. Hagar remained emotionless throughout her life. When Bram dies Hagar does not even dare to shed a tear. But when we d bury Bram and come home again and lighted lamps for the evening, it was John who cried, not I. (Laurence 184) In many ways Hagar s passionless life was identical to that of the Angel; it never shed a tear, rarely did she. Her inability to express emotion led to her relentless ignorance of others and their opinions. Hagar Shipley is a very stubborn woman at the age of ninety. She is very set in her ways, and does not appreciate being told what to do. The most prominent sign of this stubbornness is when Hagar is brought to Silverthreads nursing home to view this location. Upon this discovery Hagar attempts to run away, only to find herself lost in a forest. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Survey Of Security On Internet Of Things ( Iot ) Essay Survey of Security in Internet Of Things(IoT) Jacquelyn Rapose School of Computing Clemson University Clemson, USA jrapose@g.clemson.edu Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that has transformed our daily lives because of its distributed and ubiquitous nature. Security and privacy issues exist with the use of the IoT and must be addressed. In this paper, I discuss some of the security challenges that the IoT architecture has to address. I also compare the challenges that were inherited from the technologies related to the internet and those that appear in IoT from present networks. Keywords IoT, security, solution. I.INTRODUCTION The Internet of Things is an infrastructure that connects physical devices/objects to the internet and not just computer devices, making it possible for a user to have remote access or control over that object. IoT has the following three categories of objects 1.General objects having communication or processing capabilities embedded in them, for e.g. smartphones. 2.Sensing and actuating objects that collect information about their environment and manipulate it through remote access. 3.Data capturing and Data carrying objects that use technologies like NFC to communicate. [1] The ubiquitous nature of the Internet of Things provides many benefits, however, the security and privacy problems related with it has to be tackled. The distributed nature of technologies that IoT relies on is prone to many security and privacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. World Record For Fastest Production Car You might be familiar with the car company Bugatti, now owned by Volkswagen. Their Bugatti Veyron Super Sport holds the Guinness World Record for Fastest Production Car. The Bugatti brand has a long history, beginning in 1909 with Automobiles Ettore Bugatti, a company founded by Ettore Bugatti. Ettore Bugatti was born in Italy in 1881 to a family of artists. Bugatti began to establish himself as a car designer as early as 1901, when his Bugatti Type 2 car won a gold medal at the International Breeding and Sport Exhibition in Milan, Italy. Bugatti carried on his family s artistic legacy in the design of his race cars, which became renowned for their speed, power, and elegant design. But he didn t just make cars. Here is a quote about De Monge s design philosophy from an article in the Air and Space Magazine: De Monge left no written record of the thinking that went into the airplane (though he made some intriguing remarks during an interview conducted late in his life, while he was working as an automotive engineer in the United States). But [Scotty] Wilson is convinced that de Monge adhered to the design philosophy espoused by Antoine de Saint ExupГ©ry, the beloved French author and World War II P 38 pilot: Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. An example of this philosophy was the removal of a conventional canopy (the glass enclosure around the pilot). Most fighter aircraft at the time were built with the engine in the nose just behind the propeller. To allow the pilot to see past the engine, these fighters were built with raised canopies that sat on top of the fuselage. But having these extra bulges increases drag. Bugatti got around this by putting the pilot in the nose of the aircraft, and moving the engines. The engines were put behind the pilot and a system of drive shafts powered the propellers. After the designs were mostly finalized, construction began. The airplane was built in Paris in the second floor of a furniture shop. The frame and skin of the airplane were made almost entirely out of wood, despite the difficulties involved with shaping wood into rounded shapes. Usually, body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on the vikings Viking age has long been associated with uncontrolled piracy, when bandits swarmed out of the northlands in their ships to burn and pillage their way across civilized Europe. During this period much progress was achieved in terms of Scandinavian art and craftsmanship, marine technology, exploration, and the development of commerce. It seems the Vikings did as much trading as they did raiding. The title quot;Viking quot; includes a wide description of Nordic people; Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians, who lived during a period of brisk Scandinavian expansion in the middle ages, from approximately 800 to 1100 AD. This name may be derived from the old Norse vik(bay or creek). These people came from what is now Denmark, Sweden, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ottar visited King Alfred as a peaceful trader at the same time as Alfred was waging war with other Viking chieftains. The expansion of the Vikings was probably triggered by a population growth out stepping the capacities of domestic resources. Archaeological evidence shows that new farms were cleared in sparsely populated forests at the time of their expansion. The abundance of iron in their region and their ability to forge it into weapons and arm everyone setting off on raids helped give the Vikings the upper hand in most battles. The first recorded Viking raid occurred in 793 AD, the holy island of the Lindisfarne monastery just off the Northeast shoulder of England was pillaged, around the same time, there are recorded reports of raids elsewhere in Europe. There are narratives of raids in the Mediterranean, and as far as the Caspian Sea. Norsemen from Kiev even attempted an attack on Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire. Unfortunately, in the picture handed down to us in written accounts, the Vikings are portrayed as terrible robbers and bandits, this is strictly a single sided view; and, while the above statement is probably true, they had other traits as well. Some of their leaders were very skillful organizers, as evidenced by the fact that they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The approach of Reggio is community led, this involves everyone in their close community but also those from outside of the close community. Within Reggio, they repeat their ideas and activities, so that the children are able to revisit what they were doing the day before to further their understanding of what they were doing, but also get help if they need it. Reggio also allows the children to direct their own learning, so if they do not fully understand what they are doing at the time, then they can go back and revisit it to make sure they understand it, however if the children are... From visiting a Montessori setting, the practitioners accomplished this as they allowed the children to play individually Montessori thought working alone encouraged children to become independent learners (M. Beaver, J. Brewster et all, CACHE Level 3 Childcare and Education). It is also important that they do plan times for the children to socialize and work together as this will build their Social and Emotional development. By providing individual learning journey books for each child, means that the child s key worker can add notes and pictures to show to their family what they do at nursery, however these are also available to take home and adapt them at home. E3: Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870. She wanted to become a doctor, so she enrolled at the University of Rome; however at this time she began to develop an interest in children who were deprived; which at the time were referred to as idiot children , this encouraged Maria into studying about those who were mentally defective. • 9. The Divine Comedy by Dante Aligheri In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, illustrates a man on his journey through three stages of differing setting. One, being hell, and the other two being purgatory and Heaven. However, the most frequently read section of the book is when Dante writes about the Inferno, or hell, due to the prolific details of punishments distributed to the sinners. When he writes, Dante appeals to all readers by completely and vividly describing all events as he makes his descent through hell. And, complementing those descriptions, Dante strategically places historical figures throughout history in hell to make The Divine Comedyreal and very relatable. In other words, by doing this Dante enables the reader to connect on a more deeper level with the comedy. Not to mention that Dante also bases his Infernooff of Christian beliefs and well known mythology also connecting the reader further into the writing. However, Dante purposefully and masterfully does this for a reason. In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, Dante realistically and vividly portrays hell in a violent surreal manner in order to educate the reader, and the living for that matter, about their potential eternal after lives if they do not follow the true path God provides. Countless times throughout this comedy, Dante graphically conveys scenes from the Inferno to make it seem that the reader is actually there experiencing what Dante is. • 10. Ethical Issue And The Ethical Dilemma Leadership Ethics Introduction In this week s assignment, we have been asked to identify an ethical issue presented in the Devise Products Unlimited (DPU) case study. First we will discuss the issue and the ethical dilemma it creates. Next we will look at possible recommendations for the DPU CEO to handle this issue. The Ethical Issue First, let s start by looking at what the ethical issue that DPU is facing. The issue that I have chosen to focus on is issue two from the case study: DPU outsources some of the manufacturing of parts to a Third World country. The DPU CEO recently discovered that the organization to which he outsources has been forcing laborers to work seven days a week and 10 hours a day. These laborers receive minimal wages, yet without the work their families could starve and they would be homeless. The organization is the only large employer in the area, and if the DPU CEO terminated his contract with the organization, it would likely close, leaving hundreds of people without jobs. Before addressing the factors that are involved in this issue lets discuss some of the background information surrounding this issue. First what is outsourcing, outsourcing is the practice of hiring an outside firm or individual to perform contracted work as an alternative to paying employees to do it (Kokemuller, 2007). Companies use outsourcing based on expertise and cost of labor advantages. The subject of outsourcing in its self can often time be a much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Why Is It Important To Have Salary Caps In Professional... Money is limited. One can only buy what one has enough for. People must be efficient with their money. One must fill all of their needs. Similar to this situation, owners of professional sports teams can only buy players they have enough money for. Salary caps are placed on players based on skill level and value. This could be based off of various influences such as location, fan base, concessions sold, and much more. When some teams get more money than others, those teams get stacked with great players that lead the teams to victory. However, some complain that they don t have a lot of money, and state that that is the reason they don t have a good team. Therefore, the issue of salary caps, has two sides. Although salary caps could be abused... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Athletes in professional sports get paid a lot of money to play for famous teams. Because they want more money, they are motivated to play better. When they do play better, they get more money. For example, rookies, players that are new to the game, aren t paid much. However, they want more money to support their life, so they practice more and train to be much more skilled. Coaches then realize they will soon want more money as the years go by. Athletes practice with their team every week, and do the drills that the coaches pick to do. If players don t get better from this, they need to practice on their own time. It s up to the execution from the athletes (Neiburg). This shows that athletes must be self motivated. Most of them are, when they aren t paid much. Most veteran athletes that are already skilled have a high payroll because of salary caps. Since it is usually cap prohibitive to release a player that gets a significant signing bonus with this model, some teams are willing to include roster bonuses due in the first couple of days of the second contract year (Corry). This illustrates that salary caps don t allow players to be released right away. So, the player will get more practice with the team, and have more chances after a bad season or two. Even if a player eventually does get released, they wouldn t be happy, but they d be self motivated to practice as much as they can to get back on a team. Critics of this idea say that the only way players got into a professional sports league is because they are skilled, and already practiced a lot. Teams are also only looking for skilled players in certain positions they need. However, the reason teams need new players in those positions is because the players that are already in those positions have weaknesses. Since there isn t any signing bonus proration, teams have more cap ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Victor Frankenstein Analysis Raabia Cheema AP Literature Frankenstein Midpoint Assessment November 1, 2017 Glory is coveted by most and the pursuit of it can cause untold changes within an individual s character. In spite of this, glory in whatever field possesses the threat of becoming an obsession. Thus, the increasing extent to which one pursues their passion through their journey will shift it to obsession and rid the subject of innocence often through violence. Both Victor Frankenstein and R. Walton attempt to take on such a quest, however, Frankensteindisplays the adverse effects of such an obsession. The desire to create and discover is one endured by both Walton and Frankenstein; each realizing that in attaining such glory, one must sacrifice their innocence. Walton expresses his need to ВЁaccomplish some great purposeВЁ, citing that, to him, glory was more valuable than the pecuniary advantage he already possesses (Shelley, p. 3). Despite his own thinking, Walton s own search is truly one for self knowledge and wisdom, as his own soul is overcome with a ВЁlove for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellousВЁ (Shelley, p.6). Thus, Walton is still seeking to fulfill the peregrination his passion has set him on, hoping that he will find answers to his own true purpose, under the disguise of glory (Foster, Chapter 1). Walton has yet to experience a shift from passion to obsession, and thus, his innocence and naivety is still secured to his psyche. He believes that this search will only bring him ... • 13. Slaughter From War Strikes Antietam Analysis Slaughter from War Strikes Antietam! On September 17th, The Battle of Antietam took place and is the bloodiest single day in American History. Many men sacrificed their lives in this battle to protect what we hold dear in unity as a nation. In this battle 23,000 casualties, dead, injured, and missing, were suffered in just 12 hours of warfare(Staff 1). The four men that lie dead in this photograph are all in an open field and all appear to be in Union uniforms. These men were presumingly lined shoulder to shoulder, as is custom in war, while advancing on the confederate soldiers lines. The fence behind these soldiers is missing many of its planks suggesting that many bullets were fired at these soldiers as the advanced towards the confederate lines. This fence is symbolic because with the fence post missing it truly shows the amount of fire that these men were under as they marched their way across the battlefield(Battle of Antietam 1). This battle came after a brutal campaign by the South who had just won The 2nd Battle of Bull Run as well as The Seven Days Battle. Lee s unprecedented plan to start invading the North was seen as unorthodox because all the South needed to do was survive until the citizen s of the North got upset with the war and lost the will to fight. Lee s plan to invade the North was to invade the Maryland which remained loyal to the union and get a crushing blow in union territory. He was also hoping that some dissenting slave owners in Maryland would join the Southern forces to help fight the North in this battle. • 14. James Adams Book The American Epic Xyniya Atchison Mr. Goodwin Government August 12, 2017 The American Dream As defined by James Adams in his book The American Epic , the American Dream is the ideal of this land being the land where life would be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with equal opportunity for all. A land where people could achieve their goals and be respected regardless of their fortuitous circumstances of birth or position. This concept is what draws in America s diverse inhabitants, the idea of this utopia of a place where everyone and anyone can succeed is what America was supposed to be founded on. Another popular definition of the American Dreamis the belief that everyone has the chance to be successful and happy, all they have to do is work hard. Both of these concepts, first popularize early 1900s, has yet to come to be. So the question of whether the American dream is still alive is invalid, seeing as it never lived. ... • 15. Driven To Distraction Larry Rosen Analysis Our Distractions I am convinced that learning to live with both internal and external distractions is all about teaching the concept of focus. (Rosen 11) Are we being driven to distraction? This question is posed in Larry Rosen s essay Driven To Distraction; he argues students are distracted by technology. He makes his argument effective through use of logos, tone and rhetorical patterns. However, Rosen s essay is weakened by not addressing opposing arguments and by using a false authority fallacy. He explains how technology greatly distracts students nowadays and then offers techniques we can apply to help increase their focus and encourage them to be less plugged in . • 18. Hurricane Katrina Case Study 1. Did human activity contribute to the severity of the storm, or was it an entirely natural disaster? Support your answer with evidence and citations. The severity of Hurricane Katrina was impacted largely by the location of its landfall. The storm was well tracked by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA noted that the high pressure of the storm at landfall, the strength of the system and shallow waters offshore all were contributing factors to the severity of the storm. (Graumann, Houston, Lawrimore, Levinson, Lott, McCown, Stephens, Wuertz: 2005, pg 4). When the storm struck, however, it was found that those who were financially better off were able to evacuate easier, leaving those in lower income areas to remain amidst the devastation. Nearly a half million people were excluded from the cities, when FEMA camps were implemented as a means to reconstruct public housing. (Smith, 2006). The human activity leading up to the storm, including levees constructed on the shore as well as the NOAA announcement of a hurricane warning, had been intended to protect the residents of Louisiana and Mississippi. Unfortunately, efforts to prepare those who would be most devastated by the storm failed. The governmental response in the wake of the storm greatly worsened the devastation of the storm. What is called glory seeking was the government s way of encouraging the private sector to get involved with disaster relief. However, the Federal Emergency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Costing and Pricing Decisions Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS Costing and Pricing Decisions Cost Allocations Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect costs can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to calculate fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if they are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The last way Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine the opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. He discovered that the force even held the atmosphere around the earth. Newton called this force gravity. For example, when you jump, you come back down to earth. If there was no gravity, you would float up and disappear into space. He also discovered different planets have more or less gravity. For instance, Pluto has almost the same amount of gravity as earth, but the moon has much less gravity than the earth. If you jumped on the moon, it would take you more time to get down. Since there is less gravity on other planets, their atmosphere does not keep in much oxygen, thus it is harder to breathe on other planets. That is why astronauts wear spacesuits, to give them air. This particular passage that describes a horrific scene about a dragon, is from a novel called The Hobbit, and was written by J.R.R Tolkien. Later on, this book was also made into a movie, which was directed by Peter Jackson, that made several changes to make his movie seem more interesting but not as accordingly to the author s purpose. In the book, it is said that Bilbo is the one who fights Smaug and defeats him. The author wrote, It was at this point that Bilbo stopped. Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did. The tremendous things that happened afterwards were as nothing compared to it. He fought the real battle in the tunnel alone, before he ever saw the vast danger that lay in wait... (Tolkien 214 215). Here, it clearly says that Bilbo fights the dragon alone in the mountain, without support from the dwarves. The purpose for this is to make the readers see that Bilbo is transforming to be much more brave, strong, and clever. This way, it is more convincing to think that he can take on the big boss all by himself. J.R.R Tolkien wants Bilbo to be more independent in this situation and not rely on the dwarves. This impacts the storyline by having the readers look back and compare how Bilbo behaved before he had any experience of being a burglar. On the other hand, the movie has Smaug conflicting with the rest of Bilbo s friends, making Bilbo seem useless in the background. Although Bilbo was alone with the dragon for a few minutes, he had to call the dwarves for help afterward. The movie also has the dwarves distracting Smaug, and Bilbo had to go along with Thorin s plan, Bilbo was suppose to be in place of Thorn. The whole idea of Bilbo battling ... The honor of a girl mattered so much because virtuous girls brought in respectable suitable suitors (148), and one of the most important things an Afghani girl needed was a husband. This cultural belief gave men an overbearing advantage once they married. The men essentially controlled how their wives lived their lives. The prime example in this case would be General Taheri, who had many opinions on how women should behave. The General forbade his wife to sing in public because he thought it was a job for people with lesser reputations (177), he didn t approve of women drinking alcohol, (183), and was constantly worried about the public perception of his family. Church authority denounced the spread of scientific ideas encouraged by the invention of the printing press. They banned scientific works, like Galileo s Sidereus Nuncius, as academics published their research. Roman Catholic Church authority advocated for biblical ideas, which opposed scientific studies like the heliocentric theory and the study of kinetics. Ecclesiastical doctrine contested the heliocentric theory, Galileo s research, and Newton s laws of motion, demonstrating the incompatibility between scientific studies and theology. Copernicus challenged the Roman Catholic Church with his Heliocentric Theory. In his book De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium Libri VI, he explained his theory: the hypothesis that planets revolved around the sun rather than the Earth (Williams, L.Pearce). His proposition contradicted Bartolomeu Velho s geocentric theory, a view more compatible with church doctrine, suggesting that all motion centered around Earth (Velho Bartolomeu). The Bible established that [God] set the earth on its foundation, therefore [Earth] can never be moved (Psalm 104:5). In 2001, Zive and his crew found a mummified lion in the tomb of a woman understood to be the wet nurse of Pharaoh Tutankhamen dated to 1430. The wear of the lion s teeth indicate it lived to old age and was in captivity. One theorist, Robert Temple, declares the Sphinx is not a lion at all, because of the flat back, lack of mane, and the disproportion of the head. He believes the original statue was craved before the old kingdom and portrayed the Egyptian god Anubis, with a head of a jackal and body of a man (see figure 1). Anubis is traditionally associated with mummification and the afterlife.
