Review of smart sensor networks for environment monitoringeSAT Journals
Abstract This review article focuses on the various environment monitoring systems developed over the years. The development of any monitoring system is dependent on certain key factors namely cost of the system, energy efficiency of the system, signal to noise ratio, interference rejection during varying atmospheric conditions. The complexity of any system depends upon the number of nodes the system requires to monitor, the more the number of nodes the more complex structure becomes. If we use smart sensor network with each node independently functioning and transmitting data to one parent node that performs required processing the complexity decreases. Keywords: Zig bee, raspberry pi, smart sensor network, wireless communication, embedded controller, ARM, Wi-fi
WiRoTip: an IoT-based Wireless Sensor Network for Water Pipeline MonitoringIJECEIAES
One of the key components of the Internet of Things (IoT) is the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). WSN is an effective and efficient technology. It consists of senor nodes; smart devices that allows data collection and pre-processing wirelessly from real world. However, issues related to power consumption and computational performance still persist in classical wireless nodes since power is not always available in application like pipeline monitoring. Moreover, they could not be usually suitable and adequate for this kind of application due to memory shortage and performance constraints. Designing new IoT WSN system that matches the application specific requirements is extremely important. In this paper, we present WiRoTip, a WSN node prototype for water pipeline application. An experimental and a comparative studies have been performed for the different node’s components to achieve a final adequate design.

Implementation of environmental monitoring based on KAA IoT platformjournalBEEI
Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a key to access the internet of things (IoT). The popularity of IoT and the prediction that there will be more devices connected to the Internet cause difficulties in integrating and making connected devices. The problem of IoT implementation are the lack of real-time data collection, processing, and the inability to provide continuous monitoring. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an IoT device for monitoring environmental conditions through the IoT KAA platform that can be monitored anywhere and anytime in real time. The end device node consists of several sensors such as as temperature, humidity, carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors. The collected data from the end device node will be transmitted via a communication based on IEEE 802.15.4 to Raspberry Pi gateway, then sent to the KAA cloud server and saved into the database. The environmental data can be accessed via a web-based sensor application. We Analize the performance evaluation in terms of transaction, availability, data transfer, response time, transaction rate, throughput, and concurrency. The experimental result shows that the use of KAA IoT platform is better than that without platform.

The internet of things (IoT) has allowed important technological advances for monitoring and telemetry, thanks to the fact that IoT-based systems allow to obtain information in large areas, far from urban environments, and where low energy monitoring systems are required, features that are consistent with the requirements for high Andean wetlands telemetry. The monitoring of environmental variables, such as water quality in high Andean wetlands, is a topic of great importance for the scientific community, since, if the knowledge of the dynamics of the wetlands is improved, it is possible to optimize the decision making for their conservation. In that sense, to know the application of the IoT in this type of wetlands at a global level, this work presents a review of the literature related to the use of the IoT in the monitoring of high Andean wetlands. In order to carry out a historical review, a methodology was proposed under some guiding questions, which allowed designing a structure for background searches. Both the questions and the structure guided the search process from macro areas, such as IoT and environment, to micro areas, such as IoT applications in wetland monitoring. Finally, the review concluded that IoT has not been applied in high Andean wetland monitoring.

Smartphones, smart watches, smart cars, and smart grids - everything is smart nowadays, even water. Living in the smart city, Bhubaneswar, I have never encountered a lack of fresh water. However, the global picture looks quite different. Water scarcity affects every continent. According to a UN investigation, around 1.2 billion people live in areas of physical water scarcity. A further 1.6 billion people face economic water shortages (where countries lack the necessary infrastructure to take water from rivers and aquifers). There is enough fresh water on the planet for 7 billion people but it is distributed unevenly and too much of it is wasted or polluted. This study will find a solution of this problem.

Flooding is a natural phenomenon that often occurs in tropical countries. Drainage design is one of the efforts to prevent floods, however, when the rainfall is high, there are still several inundation points that occur. This requires comprehensive handling to reduce the impact of these inundations, to get an adaptive solution, the use of internet of things based (IoT) tools is one of the alternatives proposed. This study proposes an IoT-based flood inundation monitoring system, which includes a water level reader, a web-based inundation monitoring system, a flood inundation area and depth reporting system as evaluation materials for the government city. The sensor module that we propose is a series of sensors in a hollow cylinder design to reduce water ripples. The server application is displayed in the form of an interactive area mapping which is divided into 4 layers for 4 different analyzes so that central officers can quickly coordinate with field officers to carry out mitigation actions in the affected area. The module requires a low cost and easy installation process compared to a liquid sensor, besides that the display in the form of a web makes it easier for officers to access monitoring applications anywhere compared to geographic information system based (GIS) applications. This research has been carried out and tested in one of the major cities in Indonesia.

Diseases associated with bad water have largely reported cases annually leading to deaths, therefore the water quality monitoring become necessary to provide safe water. Traditional monitoring includes manual gathering of samples from different points on the distributed site, and then testing in laboratory. This procedure has proven that it is ineffective because it is laborious, lag time and lacks online results to enhance proactive response to water pollution. Emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and step towards the smart life poses the successful using of IoT. This paper presents a water quality monitoring using IoT based ThingSpeak platform that provides analytic tools and visualization using MATLAB programming. The proposed model is used to test water samples using sensor fusion technique such as TDS and Turbidity, and then uploading data online to ThingSpeak platform to monitor and analyze. The system notifies authorities when there are water quality parameters out of a predefined set of normal values. A warning will be notified to user by IFTTT protocol.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
