Design and Implementation of Portable Outdoor Air Quality Measurement System ...IJECEIAES
Recently, there is increasing public awareness of the real time air quality due to air pollution can cause severe effects to human health and environments. The Air Pollutant Index (API) in Malaysia is measured by Department of Environment (DOE) using stationary and expensive monitoring station called Continuous Air Quality Monitoring stations (CAQMs) that are only placed in areas that have high population densities and high industrial activities. Moreover, Malaysia did not include particulate matter with the size of less than 2.5µm (PM2.5) in the API measurement system. In this paper, we present a cost effective and portable air quality measurement system using Arduino Uno microcontroller and four low cost sensors. This device allows people to measure API in any place they want. It is capable to measure the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO), ground level ozone (O3) and particulate matters (PM10 & PM2.5) in the air and convert the readings to API value. This system has been tested by comparing the API measured from this device to the current API measured by DOE at several locations. Based on the results from the experiment, this air quality measurement system is proved to be reliable and efficient.

Solution for intra/inter-cluster event-reporting problem in cluster-based pro...IJECEIAES
In recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been considered one of the important topics for researchers due to their wide applications in our life. Several researches have been conducted to improve WSNs performance and solve their issues. One of these issues is the energy limitation in WSNs since the source of energy in most WSNs is the battery. Accordingly, various protocols and techniques have been proposed with the intention of reducing power consumption of WSNs and lengthen their lifetime. Cluster-oriented routing protocols are one of the most effective categories of these protocols. In this article, we consider a major issue affecting the performance of this category of protocols, which we call the intra/inter-cluster event-reporting problem (IICERP). We demonstrate that IICERP severely reduces the performance of a cluster-oriented routing protocol, so we suggest an effective Solution for IICERP (SIICERP). To assess SIICERP’s performance, comprehensive simulations were performed to demonstrate the performance of several cluster-oriented protocols without and with SIICERP. Simulation results revealed that SIICERP substantially increases the performance of cluster-oriented routing protocols.

The preservation of the environment has become a priority and a subject that is receiving more and more attention. This is particularly important in the field of precision agriculture, where pesticide and herbicide use has become more controlled. In this study, we propose to evaluate the ability of the deep learning (DL) and convolutional neural network (CNNs) technology to detect weeds in several types of crops using a perspective and proximity images to enable localized and ultra-localized herbicide spraying in the region of Beni Mellal in Morocco. We studied the detection of weeds through six recent CNN known for their speed and precision, namely, VGGNet (16 and 19), GoogLeNet (Inception V3 and V4) and MobileNet (V1 and V2). The first experiment was performed with the CNNs architectures from scratch and the second experiment with their pre-trained versions. The results showed that Inception V4 achieved the highest precision with a rate of 99.41% and 99.51% on the mixed image sets and for its version from scratch and its pre-trained version respectively, and that MobileNet V2 was the fastest and lightest with its size of 14 MB.
WSN nodes power consumption using multihop routing protocol for illegal cutti...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The need for an automation system from a remote area cannot be separated from the role of the wireless sensor network. However, the battery consumption is still a problem that influences the lifetime of the system. This research focused on studying how to characterize the power consumption on each sensor node using multihop routing protocol in the illegal logging field, to get the prediction lifetime of the network. The system is designed by using six sensor nodes in a master-slave connection and implemented in a tree topology. Each sensor node is consisting of a sound sensor, vibration sensor, Xbee communication, current and voltage sensor, and Arduino nano. The system is tested using battery 10050 mAH with several scenarios to have calculated how long the battery lifetime can be predicted. The results stated that the master node on the network depleted the power of the battery faster than the slave node since the more slaves connected to the master, the more energy the battery consumes.

Optimization of WEDM parameters using Taguchi method for higher material remo...IJERA Editor
With the increasing demands of high surface finish and machining of complex shape geometries, conventional machining process are now being replaced by non-traditional machining processes. Wire EDM is one of the non-traditional machining processes which is based on Electrical Discharge Machining Process, which is also called electro-erosion machining process. When the gap voltage is sufficiently large (i.e. reaches the breakdown voltage of dielectric fluid), high power spark is produced, which increase the temperature about 10,000 degrees Celsius. By this way the metal is removed from the work piece. The selection of optimum machining parameters in WEDM is an important increasing productivity. As Material Removal Rate (MRR) is most important response in WEDM; various investigations have been carried out by several researchers for improving the MRR . In this paper, the Taguchi method has been extensively adopted in manufacturing to improve processes with single performance characteristic to achieve higher Material Removal Rate.
Acoustic Analysis of Commercially Available Timber Species in NigeriaIJERA Editor
Several acoustic techniques have been used to determine elastic and damping properties of trees, logs and beams in different parts of the world but such acoustic data on timber are not available in standard form in Nigeria. Ten species of locally occurring Nigerian timber (five hardwood species and five softwoods species) were sampled and subjected to acoustic analysis using a „Portable Ultrasonic Non destructive Digital Indicating Tester (PUNDIT), with a view to assessing the stiffness and strength characteristics of the timber species by obtaining the velocity of ultrasonic longitudinal stress waves through the timber piece and hence calculating the dynamic Modulus of Elasticity (MoE) of each species. Results obtained showed that the velocity of acoustic waves through a timber piece and hence the dynamic modulus of elasticity (MoE) of the piece is directly proportional to the strength of the wood. Of all the timber species tested, the species with the highest MoE value (8.48GPa) was Mansonia (mansonia altissima) while that with the lowest MoE value (1.64GPa) was Alstonia (alstonia booeneicongensis). This study thus provides for the first time, valuable data on the strength characteristics of ten commercially available species of Nigerian timber represented in terms of their dynamic MoE values.

Optimization of Process Parameters in Wire Electrical Discharge Machining of ...IJERA Editor
Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a specialized thermal machining process capable of accurately machining parts with varying hardness or complex shapes, which have sharp edges that are very difficult to be machined by the main stream machining processes. This practical technology of the WEDM process is based on the conventional EDM sparking phenomenon utilizing the widely accepted non-contact technique of material removal. Since the introduction of the process, WEDM has evolved from a simple means of making tools and dies to the best alternative of producing micro-scale parts with the highest degree of dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality. Metal matrix composites are advanced materials having high specific strength, good wear resistance, and high thermal expansion coefficient. To achieve this task, machining parameters such as pulse on time, pulse off time, peak current, servo voltage, wire feed, wire tension etc. of this process should be selected such that optimal value of their performance measures like Material Removal Rate (MRR), Surface Roughness (SR), Gap current, Dimensional deviation, etc. can be obtained or improved. In past decades, intensive research work had been carried out by different researchers for improvement and optimization of WEDM performance measures using various optimization techniques like Taguchi, Response Surface Methodology (RSM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Genetic Algorithm (GA), etc. This paper also highlights the feasibility of the different control strategies of obtaining the optimal machining conditions. In this paper, A CMOS comparator with low power dissipation is presented. The preamplifier latch comparator is compared with conventional double tail comparator. The comparators designed and simulated in 90nm Cadence virtuoso environment technology. The particular preamplifier latch comparator will be mix of a good amplifier and a latch comparator can easily effect higher velocity and also low electric power dissipation. The proposed circuit topology improves kickback noise and reduces power dissipation compared with a conventional double tail comparator.Analysis are testified and compared with conventional comparator and enhancements are detected in this paper.
Finger Millet: A Potential Source For Production of Gluten Free BeerIJERA Editor
Studies related to value addition of underutilized crops using fermentation technology need a radical approach. Present study has been made to explore the underutilized crops utilization for production of beer. Designed experiments were conducted to find the effect of three independent variables having three levels of each i.e. (blend ratio-80:20:0,80:10:10, 80:0:20 , α-amylase enzyme concentration - 0%, 0.4%, and 0.8%) and slurry ratio -1:5, 1:7 and 1:9) on pH, colour and alcohol content of beer prepared from finger millet, barnyard millet and paddy. The data from all experiments were analyzed statistically using Design Expert 8.0.7.1 and the response functions were developed using the regression analysis. Result of fermented studies reveals that blend ratio had maximum effect on alcohol content,pH and colour but enzyme concentration had maximum effect on alcohol content while slurry ratio affected the colour of beer. Statistical analysis resulted in the optimum conditions of the independent variables as blend ratio (80):(9.6):(10.4), enzyme concentration 0.45% and slurry ratio 1:6.82 for maximum beer production. The second order model was found to be fitted to predict all the responses i.e., pH, colour and alcohol content.

Fault Analysis of DFIG under Grid DisturbancesIJERA Editor
Doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) are widely used in variable-speed variable-pitch wind energy
generation systems. These machines are controlled with the power converters connected to the rotor, where the
controlled power is only a fraction, approximately equal to the slip of the stator power. This characteristics of the
DFIG has increased the wind energy penetration, but it is more prone to the electrical grid disturbances. These
disturbances are classified as the voltage dips and the line faults. In the first section of this paper, PWM control
of the DFIG for maximum power extraction is presented. In the second section, the behaviour of the DFIG under
the various grid disturbances are modelled. In this paper, the behaviour of the wind turbines are studied through
various simulations done in the LABview environment.
Recovery method to mitigate the effect of NBTI on SRAM cellsIJERA Editor
NBTI stands for Negative Bias Temperature Instability. NBTI basically affects the parameter at the device level
and hence affects the performance of the device. This paper explains what NBTI is and its effect on the SRAM
cells while also dealing with the leakage current that is supposed to be one of the important factors affecting any
circuit. Not just that but this paper also puts forth a method called recovery mode which explains a different
approach to overcome this effect of NBTI on the 6T SRAM cell.

ABSTRACT
The Environment monitoring is one of the applications of wireless sensor network. The most serious
environment pollution is air pollution because different air pollutant causes damage to human health and causes
global warming. To avoid such effect on human health and climate change Environment monitoring systems are
used. This paper provides the short overview of different environmental air pollution monitoring systems and
Energy efficiency in WSN to reduced the power consumption of system.
Keywords – Environment monitoring system, Energy efficiency, Wireless sensor network
I. Introduction
One of the greatest problems that the world is
facing today is that Environmental pollution. It
consists of soil, water and air pollution. The first and
foremost Environmental pollution is air pollution
which causes Global warming and Climate change. It
also affect on human health.
Environment monitoring is one of the major
application of wireless sensor network.WSN consist
of different sensors which are widely distributed to
monitor different environment parameters like
temperature, humidity, gases, pressure , wind speed
etc.
WSN consists of sensor nodes which are low cost
devices with limited power. Energy efficiency is the
biggest problem when these sensors are used for large
scale environment monitoring as the sensors are
battery powered. Therefore it is necessary to improve
the energy efficiency of monitoring system. Several
techniques are used to improve the energy
consumption. This paper performs the review on
different environmental air pollution monitoring
systems and techniques to improve the energy
efficiency of the system.
II. Literature Review
2.1 Environment monitoring system: Review
Nihal Kularatna and B.H.Sudantha [1] presented
environmental air pollution monitoring system in
2008.The system based on the IEEE 1451 standard. In
this paper STIM smart transducer interface module
was developed which consist of microcontroller and
group of various sensors like CO2, CO, NO2,
O3.This also used Personal computer PC for
graphical representation. STIM connected to the PC
via transducer independent interface which uses IEEE
1451 standard.
Y.J.Jung and Y.K.Lee [2] developed air pollution
monitoring system using Geosensor network in
2008.Geosensor network is used to the detect the
condition of remote place. In this context model and
concept of flexible sampling interval change was
introduced to increases the battery lifetime. Context
model designed which determines the polluted areas
and accordingly alarm message and safety guidelines
send to the people in that area.
Octavian A.Postolache, J.M.Dias and P.M.B Silva
Girao [3] in 2009 implemented Smart sensor network
for indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring. In this
system sensor nodes are installed in different rooms
and it consist of tin dioxide sensors which was
hardwired or wirelessly connected to the central unit.
It also measured the concentration of temperature and
humidity for accuracy. In this the concept of multiple
input single output neural networks was implemented
to compensate temperature and humidity influence on
gas concentration. Wi-Fi technology was used for
communication.
In the year of 2010 A.R.Al-Ali, Imran Zualkernan
and Fadi Aloul [4] introduced Mobile GPRS sensors
for pollution monitoring. This included Data
acquisition unit, GPRS modem, and GPS module and
pollution server. In this DAQ unit, GPRS and GPS
were connected to the microcontroller via RS-232
Interface and finally gathered data were sending to
the pollution server.
Raja Vara Prasad et al. [5] In 2011 proposed a real
time wireless pollution monitoring. This system was
based on the multihop data aggregation algorithm.
Calibrated gas sensors were interfaced to wireless
sensor motes, in that Libelium WASP mote was used
which consist of processing unit and communication
unit. All gas sensors were connected to sensor board
on rotational basis. The collected data were sending

to base station. Multihop data aggregation algorithm
was used to increase a monitoring range.
Jen-Hao Liu et al. [6] Introduced micro-scale air
quality monitoring system for urban areas in
2012.This System monitors the concentration of
carbon monoxide co caused by heavy vehicles
emission. Sensor nodes were deployed in highly
populated areas. System was integrated with the GSM
for data transmission.Gateway collected the data from
all sensor nodes and sends to control centre by GSM
network
Anuj Kumar et al. [7] in 2013 conducted a review on
environmental monitoring system. The review
discussed different techniques and various hardware
used in the environment monitoring systems. It also
considered the parameters like low cost, low power
consumption, reliability, and signal to noise ratio and
RF interference.
Abdullah Kadri et al. [8] in 2013 presented real time
air pollution monitoring based on Machine to
machine communication. The system was
implemented with various monitoring station which
consist of different gaseous and meteorological
sensors. Each monitoring station communicates with
the backend server through M2M communication
which uses GPRS network.
2.2 Energy Efficiency in WSN: Review
Wendi Rabiner Heinzelman et al.[9] in 2000
proposed energy efficient communication protocol for
wireless micro sensor network. This paper discussed
the LEACH ( Low energy adaptive clustering
Hierarchy) protocol that distribute energy among the
sensor in the network. LEACH can reduced the more
power consumption compared to routing protocol.
Jamal N.Al-karaki and Ahmed E.Kamal [10]
presented a survey on Routing techniques in wsn in
2004.This paper performed review on routing
techniques in WSN. This paper presented routing
challenges and design issues in wireless sensor
network. It also introduced routing protocol in WSN
which are divided into flat based routing; hierarchical
based routing and location based routing
Ridha Soua and Pascale Minet [11] conducted a
survey on energy efficient techniques in 2011.In
environment monitoring application energy
consumption is the major problem because it is
impossible to use batteries for large scale application.
Therefore in order to increase the lifetime of network,
this paper discussed the data reduction, control
reduction, topology control, energy efficient routing
techniques.
Sandra Sentra et al. [12] introduced power saving and
energy optimization techniques in 2011.This paper
explained the hardware architecture for energy aware
sensor deployment and energy parameters are
considered in the transmission system.
Fahed Awad et al. [13] introduced power saving
technique in 2012.The main focused on the clustering
algorithm to minimize the power consumption.
Clustering protocol uses the sensing coverage matrix.
In this principle of virtual field force is applied on
each cluster in a network that made the sensor node to
move to proper location to maximize the sensing
coverage and reduced the transmitted power.
III. Conclusion
It has been observed that wireless sensor network
based environment monitoring systems are low cost,
small size and easily reliable. But these systems
cannot be used for large area because each node is
usually energized by energy limited battery. This
paper performs review on environment monitoring
systems and different techniques to improve the
energy consumption .so that in future this systems are
used for large scale environment monitoring .This
WSN based monitoring systems can also be used in
habitat monitoring , indoor living monitoring , forest
monitoring .
