Racism And The World And Me
The Most Known Unknown in the World
Racism has been and always will be a form of segregation concurrently and in the history of
humanity. From Ancient times to current, the status of segregation by any means of oppression
privy of power, wealth, and prestige has been as second nature as drinking water. While Coates
has his own perspective of reality and its structure, it s interesting that a so called genius had
taken almost 30 years to finally see the true nature of the beast he frequented. That Beast known as
Racist America and all if its capitalist racial qualities. While some have their own experiences and
perspectives, Between The World and Me , past historical events on racismin America; including
the Civil Rights Movement, correlative measures of other countries on racism and the slave trade,
and the many obstacles that are implemented to secure such advantages will continue to be the key
topics of discussion.
Interpretively speaking on Between The World and Me , Ta Nehisi Coates speaks upon the
current state of racial relations similarly to W.E.B. Dubois Color Line of the 21st Century. It is the
indirect, non named, hiding in the shadows, racism that is so heavily intertwined and implemented
in our cultural and social structures. (Kelley, Robin) Simon and Garfunkel wrote a song eerily
similar to this theme, The Sound of Silence , and although it pre dates the release of Coates book,
it gives great concern of the existing issues that have adapted and

7 HARDEST SONGS TO SING
Narrator: Songs are words set to music and meant to be sung. Some people are born with innate
abilities to sing well that amaze and melt our hearts. But not all people just find it easy in fact
even talented singers also find some songs that are difficult to sing. In this video, I will reveal 7
hardest songs to sing. No 7. Over the Rainbow Over the Rainbow is a song by Judy Garland. This
song is difficult in a way that the singer will simply sing this ballad with enough emotions to enthral
the audience and take them with the journey. It s not technical versatility that makes it difficult. My
mother made an impressive latte art with food colors. She calls it coffee rainbows. No 6. I will

Even talented singers find this song as one of the hardest to sing especially the chorus because it is
not easy to hit the high note so other singers just change it the way they can handle. Balloons are
scared of Pop music.
No 4. Loving You Loving You is a classic soul genre of Minnie Riperton under the album, Perfect
Angel released in 1974. It is necessary that you have the right voice for this song because only
very few can pull off a falsetto most especially the smooth and tender. It is a song of technical
articulation.
No 3. Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush is one of the hardest songs to sing
because of the key changes, the transition to the chorus and the signature changes. To sing this song
well, your voice must suit to this song with balance and power or else you may end up sounding
like wails.
No 2. Dream On Dream On was written by Steven Tyler on and off for six years and sung by
Aerosmith. This song is about hunger to be somebody and dream until dreams come true. It is
considered as one of the hardest songs to sing because of the number of vocal slides and long
notes. A headband makes music on my head.

Allusions In The Crucible
You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the
force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to
burn almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view,
from the Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non
virtuous actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just
used as the instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal
throughout the entire saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the
Jedi lied and committed divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are
many times that they lie, not only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate.
Their biggest lies were in their omissions of information about their inability to access the force as
easily, and when they told Anakin to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is
the antagonist of the film, that doesn t change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on
his beloved friend, they were committing a non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these
non virtues because they had grown... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous
acts. The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue,
and did many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So
Anakin was just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built
up. In that way, he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of
the Jedi. Therefore, the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not

The books of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; where written over 2000 years ago.
These books excluding the Gospel of John are often called the synoptic Gospels. The term synoptic
is derived from the Greek word meaning seeing together. These three books are comparable in
their recording of the existence and ministry of Jesus. The wording of the synoptic Gospels is
similar as well. For example, the account of the healing of the leaper occurs in all three books and

The common belief among source critics is that, the Gospel of Mark is the oldest and Matthew and
Luke used his gospel along with an unknown source to write their Gospels. Evidence supporting
this view make the makes four points. First, the Luke s Gospel is contains approximately half of
Mark s information and Matthew s Gospel encompasses almost all of Mark s views. Second,
Mark s words are used verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same
sequence of events as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s uncomfortable
passages of scripture to allow smooth transitions and ease of understanding.[5] Markan Priority
The Markan Priority is the belief that Mark was the first to write his account then Matthew and
Luke used his recordings along with an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is
said that Matthew and Luke used Mark s account and another unknown source to write their
versions of the gospel, it is also believed that Mark used some unknown source to supplement his
gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan Priority To accept the Markan Priority one must first
denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit would bring all things back to their remembrance
; the testimonies of the early church leaders and historical facts. Also, if Matthew and Luke were
present at the same time that Mark was present, why would they need to use Mark s account?[7]

The Level Of Competition In The Soft Drinks Industry
The level of competition in an industry determines the number of profits made by players in the
industry. An industry with a high level of profits is likely to attract many players which erode
the profits made by firms gradually. A firm seeking to venture into a new industry should
evaluate the level of profits in an industry as well as how intense competition is in the industry
before making a move. Porter s five forces model provides a comprehensive framework that can
be used to evaluate how intense the competition is in the industry. The soft drinks industry is an
industry that is very profitable but also exhibits cut throat competition. Coca Cola and Pepsi
companies are the players with much dominance in the soft drinks industry. This paper explores
the competition between Coca Cola and Pepsi companies dubbed cola wars in the context of
Porter s five forces model. Threat of New Entrants (Low) This force analyzes the ease or
difficulty of a new player entering an industry. Industries that are profitable but have minimal
barriers to entry attract many players who make the profits to plummet. Profits decrease when a
large number of firms compete for a limited market share (Hill Jones, 2010). Therefore, existing
players, particularly in a profitable industry, should create extensive barriers to entry to deter new
firms from entering the industry. Coca Cola and Pepsi companies are the dominant players in the
soft drinks industry (Yoffie, 2011). The two companies

The Differences Between Market Research And Marketing...
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MARKET RESEARCH AND MARKETING RESEARCH.
Marketing research refers to a well planned and rational study analysis and interpretation of
marketing problems undertaken for actionable decision making. Marketing research considers the
more immediate situation. It is primarily concerned with the provision of information about
markets and the reaction of these to various product, price, distribution and promotion decisions.
(Boone, 2006)
Marketing research can be divided into two types; external continuous data and external ad hoc data.
Generally, marketing research helps in many different ways. It gives information on consumer

Classifying America s First Cars
When Henry Ford concocted America s first automobile in 1896, only the upper class was seen
simulating a vehicle. By the 1920 s, all classes began driving including teenagers. The
controversy of teenagers first car seems to have carried throughout the years. Although there s
hundreds of types of vehicles in America, the types teenagers drive may be categorized into
specific groups. The best way to classify an American teenager s first car is into three body types:
sedans, coupe, and SUV s. Sedans, which is a four door automobile, seem to be one of the safest
types cars to date; therefore, numerous parents of teenagers decide to purchase these as first
cars for their children. In just this body type, dozens of different brands exist: Honda, Ford,
Toyota, and Chevrolet. Being somewhat small and simple catch the eye of many parents
because they want an affordible yet reliable car for their teengaers. A good example of teenagers
first sedan is the Honda Accord, which is one of America s top safety picks. The Accord is rated
in the top ten in the Driver Magazine. It is also unique because it is available in two different body
styles, Sedan and Coupe.

I interviewed Marilee Hobbs, one of my mom s close friends and Linda Keuver, the owner of the

a mile south of the Stonebridge Road and Stonebridge Road Extension intersection on the east side
of the road. The Beers Atlas showed the main road running through East Durham, Route 145, but

Ethnic Inequality
Ethnic inequality
The stereotypes derived from ethnic differences are a crucial source of inequality found in
education outcomes. According to Steele and Aronson (1995, p. 808), the concept of stereotype
threat refers to the condition of individuals at risk of conforming to the negative stereotypes
associated with them, which lead to self characterisation. This analysis of stereotype threat is
important because ethnicity plays a role in reproducing unequal academic performances. For
instance, past research has identified poorer mathematical performance in white men who were
confronted with the stereotype of Asian superiority in maths, compared to those without such
confrontation (Aronson et al. 1999, pp. 37 38). Similarly, a study has proven how the cultural
stereotype of black s intellectual inferiority is an affecting factor to the academic performances of
African American college students, as they perform poorer when stereotype was reinforced (Steele
Aronson 1995). These studies contend how ethnicity plays a part in categorising individuals into
separate identities, which have the ability to generate inequality in educational outcomes.
Additionally, the different cultural orientations of certain ethnic groups may either encourage or
discourage an individual s academic achievements (Kao Thompson 2003, p. 419). To illustrate, in
the United States (US), Asians represent the 54 per cent of individuals with bachelor s degree,
whereas Hispanics reported the lowest

Allende and Peter Winn s Weavers of Revolution Essay
Allende and Peter Winn s Weavers of Revolution
In Peter Winn s Weavers of Revolution, a factory in Santiago, Chile fights for their independence
against the Chilean government of the 1970 s. While this rebellion is going on, presidential
elections are taking place and Salvador Allende is the presidential candidate which represents the
common people. The relation between Allende and the people he represents is a unique one
because at first this class, the working class, helps and supports Allende to become president, but
then both parties realize their different plans for the future and the working class actually
contributes to the downfall of Allende s presidency. At first, the working class heavily supported
Allende s campaign. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allende based his campaign around the unfairness of Chile s society to the working class, and the
Yarur factory gave him the support he needed to win the election. Once Allende becomes elected,
the two revolutions which were supposed to compliment each other actually start to work against
each other. The first type of revolution is the revolution from below , which is characteristic of
the workers in the Yarur rebelling against the Chilean government. The other type is the
revolution from above , this was the revolution common of the higher class like Allende working
towards workers rights. At first, the workers think that their revolution from below was only
helping Allende s revolution from above. The workers did things like form unions for the first
time, or were even so bold to strike against the mill in order to gain complete control over it.
Strikes had happened before which were about things like wages or unions, but this was different
for the fact that they wanted total control of the mill. Allende was forced to give the workers the
power to control the mill. This is just one of the examples of how the revolution from below
sometimes coincided with or complemented, but increasingly diverged from, the legalistic and
modulated revolution from above (141). For the most part in fact, the strategies of Allende were
disrupted by the revolution from below because of their need for extreme

Belonging In The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett
Has there ever been a place where you just felt like you belonged? For Mary, the secret garden
was that place. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett has the theme of belonging. This
essay will be covering how Mary, Colin, Mrs. Medlock, and Lord Craven all applied to the
theme in their own way whether it be for better or for worse. Also, what scenes and symbols
were useful and played an important role to the theme of belonging. First off, Mary shows how
this theme applies to her in many ways, but the scene when Mary first discovers the garden really
stands out. This part in the movie is a major key to the whole story. She is discovering a place that

Rule of Law in the Constitution
Introduction A free society is a system of interaction between humans wherein every person can
participate in a civilised manner and without discrimination. In Australia, the Commonwealth of
Australia Constitution Act 1900 (Imp) is the primary source by which society operates as an
essentially free society. This paper seeks to establish that the functioning of such a society is
dependent upon the existence of a legal framework supporting the rule of law, which is ultimately,
an ideology. Analogically, the circumstances in which the application of the rule of law has either
created a free society or undermined it will be explored and its purposes thus inferred to construct a
definition of the rule of law reflecting contemporary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In asserting its judicial independence, the High Court in Plaintiff S157/2002 v Commonwealth
stated it was the ultimate decision maker in all matters where there is a contest. Zywicki
suggests that as long as the court follows precedent and thereby gives individuals more certainty
of knowledge over the rights they possess, social coordination and economic wealth will
increase. The courts would not be relying on its discretion, but rules which will apply equally in
the future. Thus, refining Dicey s definition, Zywicki views rule based decision making as a
basic concept of the rule of law. Contrarily, Sykes suggests discretion may be a matter of
necessary efficiency which is more valuable than strictly adhering to the rule of law. The rule of
law, then, does not encapsulate the absolute value of society. Sykes refers to police discretionary
power; however, this concept of balancing the rule of law against other values may be extended
to situations wherein exceptions and defences in law apply to certain groups. Consider the
conferral of legal privilege and the requirement of confidentiality on legal practitioners in
criminal law whereas equality before the law operates in favour of the client, the law of legal
privilege applies only to legal practitioners. As Sykes emphasises, it would be unjust if the law
failed to account for social difference and disadvantage... Zywicki would concur and modifies the

In this study, the data being gathered was analyzed. The data was taken from the survey tests from
81 participants. Since there were a total of 81, 47 were males representing roughly 58% of the
respondents, and the remaining over 40% were female. Those participants were drawn from various
ethnicities that would include Asian, Black American, White Caucasian, and American Indian.
According to Brunner (2005), he confirmed that subjects of any studies that would relate to cultural
differences and cultural diversitywould include those people who belonged to their ethnic origins
(p. 28). Consequently, those participants were equally drawn from different countries in the
world to participate in the study (p. 28). A majority of the respondents could speak English and
Arabic, which represented 74.39% and 75.61% of language proficiency respectively. It revealed
in the study that Korean was the least spoken language among respondents at 1.22%. In fact, the
age range that most participants fell under was between 18 and 24 years followed by 25 30 years,
which was amounting to 48.78% and 39.02% respectively.
Based on the study, when they were asked, which degree they wanted to complete at WMU, they
replied mostly to Bachelor s Degree. That was the choice for most participants representing 56.10%.

to fulfill our greatest potential. To find our calling, and summon the courage to live it. I would
like to thank Oprah for showing me that even though life can be hard, I don t have to let it turn
me cold and heartless. She had a rough start in life but she continued to persevere and help others.
I admire her persistence to always try to do better. She was born into poverty and her mother was a
teenage single mom. Although she moved around a lot as a little girl, after she went to live with her
father, she became an honors student in high school. She was voted most popular girl, won the
Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant at age 17, won an oratory... Show more content on

Oprah emphasizes spiritual values, healthy living and self help. One of my favorite episodes on her
show was when daughters whose dads had abandoned them, and she teaches them how to love
themselves. She teaches them that their worth is not based on their father s actions and opinions.
She also teaches them all men aren t the same, and their boyfriends and husbands truly love them.
In 2000, Oprah s Angel Network began presenting a $100,000 Use Your Life Award to people
who are using their own lives to improve the lives of others. She has given away $400 million to
educational causes. She has also given over 400 scholarships to Morehouse college in Atlanta, GE.
Winfrey is a dedicated child activists for children s rights. She founded the Family for Better Lives
foundation. Oprah is one of my role models for my career. I want to go into social work. I want to
help families and children.
She has persevered and helped others in her rough life. Most people would say she was
memorable for being down to earth. She became the highest paid performer on television, the
richest self made woman in America, and the richest African American of the 20th century. The
Wall Street Journal wrote, It s a relief to see a gab monger with a fond but realistic assessment of

Essay on Religious Justifications of Slavery in the Caribbean
Religious Justifications of Slavery in the Caribbean The doctrine of Christianity grants eternal life
to all persons who accept that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and choose to follow him. Such a
statement leaves little room for interpretation of the scripture itself. Nevertheless, the nineteenth
century Christian churches of the Caribbean Islands created a racial distinction between humans
which determined who could and who could not be granted eternal life through the Christian faith.
This concept of race was based on the belief that Africans were intellectually unable to make an
educated decision regarding personal religion. Planters supported this discrimination against their
workers because then they did not have to be cruel to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Later they were informed by the missionaries). The slave owners did not encourage the
institution of marriage. It was felt that the strength and power of the marriage union would offer
a threat to the Plantation System. Concubinage was encouraged as it was believed that this frail
type of union would keep the negroes humble and complacent. Despite the rapid social changes
taking place, common law marriages and concubinage are still present in Caribbean and will
perhaps be for a long time. During the latter part of the nineteenth and the beginning of the
twentieth century (1890 1910) there was a large movement of people from Jamaica to Cuba,
Panama, Costa Rica and the United States of America in search of jobs. Fathers travelled away
from their families leaving mothers to be solely responsible for the upbringing of their children.
During the 1950s there was an exodus of Jamaicans to England. These included both fathers and
mothers, and so, many children were left to be cared for by their grandmothers and other relatives.
Although families differ in form according to the society, they nevertheless are responsible for
carrying out certain functions. The chief of these are: 1. Procreation or reproduction for
continuation of the species. 2. Socialisation which includes education, religion, preparation for a
career, learning social relationships, management of leisure and being a responsible

Compare And Contrast Liberalism And Socialism
These past few weeks we as a class have read and discussed so many different political ideologies
including liberalism and socialism. According to John Rawls s theory of justice for a liberal
society, liberalism can be seen as the interpretation of two principles, where the goal is to make
the person who is worst of better on distributive shares and also to attempt to even out class
barriers, school system be it public or private. Rawls s starts with the idea that citizens do not
deserve to be born into a rich or a poor family, to be born naturally more or less gifted than others,
to be born female or male, to be born a member of a particular racial group All social goods are to
be distributed equally, unless an unequal distribution would be to everyone s advantage.
Whereas socialism is similar where they want everyone to be equal, to have equal amounts, and
to the rid a society of a free market. Socialism s intent is to only have those consuming producing.
Any inequalities must improve everyone s situation, and especially the situation of the worst off.
Justice is like a social contract in which people come together to choose the basic principles that
will govern their society. Justice is the first virtue of social institutions. Injustice is simply
inequalities that are not to the benefit of all. The Main idea of the theory of justice is the theory
of social contract as found in say Locke, Rousseau, and Kant. There is a guiding idea is that the

What Instrument Was Best For Me
Jazz Standards
Music isn t just what I do, it s who I am, and who I ve always been. I play twelve instruments.
Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade
when I could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of
middle school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week
later, I changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments and I
mean all of them trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I ve
probably played it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the
saxophones. Again, I cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that
I would rather play notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very
irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet.
Two completely different musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of
course, as an indecisive twelve year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself,
chose the alto saxophone.
The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I
became really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter
of weeks. In fact, I was so talented that I was moved up into the eighth grade band as a sixth grader.

Zeitoun Quotes
Mark Twain once said, To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. This quote implies
that individuals who possess a lot of authority often take advantage of it, which is agreeable and
can be supported by Dave Egger s non fiction novel Zeitoun. In Zeitoun, the people who were a
part of the police force and military that had authority in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrinatook
advantage of their power and wrongfully arrested many people left in the city. On Tuesday
September 6th, Zeitoun, Nasser, Ronnie, and Todd were met in the foyer of the Claiborne house
by men in mismatched police and military uniforms who all had M 16s and pistols, at least ten
guns were visible to Zeitoun and the others. The police and military men forced Zeitoun and the
others into their fan boat where they were brought to Camp Greyhound . The officers abused
their power as many laws were violated. For example, in order to even enter the house, the police
needed to have a warrant, which they did not. Zeitoun had every right to request them to leave,
however, it can be assumed that if he did, they the police and military personnel would ve resorted
to violence. This assumption can be safely made... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abstract:
Green tea, an unfermented leaves is rich in catechins. Catechins are known to lower the lipid by un
regulating lipid metabolizing enzyme via NF KB and thereby stimulating fat oxidation. Black tea
results from the fermentation of green tea in which catechins of green tea is converted to theaflavin
and thearubigin, which have some significant health benefits of their own. Theaflavin is
responsible for reduced lipid accumulation, suppressed fatty acid synthesis, and stimulated fatty
acid oxidation by inhibiting acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase activities.
A literature review of a total of 8 Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs), 5 Meta analyses
consisting of 75 peer reviewed Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs) on 5319 subjects and 6
population based studies were selected for this study. The research related to Green tea effect on the
cholesterol and lipid lowering effect shows promising results with high dose of intake for long
term. Studies and meta analyses of CCRTs in most cases showed improved low density

The reasons why American people do not vote Essay
The reasons why many Americans do not vote
America is a free country, and voting is an important part of that freedom. Unlike other countries
where dictators and monarchs make decisions on behalf of the people, Americans get the right to
decide who runs the country and what laws should govern citizens. But even though voting is an
important privilege, most Americans simply don t vote, and some of their reasons may surprise
you. Here are seven common reasons most Americans don t vote.
1.They think their vote won t count
Many Americans don t vote because they think their vote doesn t count. This is a common excuse
that s rooted in the belief that the Electoral College chooses the President, not the voters. In reality,

If you don t voice your opinion by voting, you shouldn t have the right to voice your complaints
when things don t go the way you want them to.
5.Lines are too long
Voting lines can sometimes be long, and for busy people waiting in line is a horrible waste of
time and energy. But in reality, voting lines are seldom long, even for high profile presidential
races. With the advent of new technology, voting is becoming easier and more efficient than ever
before, and this allows voters to get in and out without having to wait in long lines. This excuse is
becoming less and less relevant as time goes on.
6.Don t like the candidates
Politicians are sometimes easy to dislike. Their flaws are often aired publicly for the entire
world to see, and many people generally distrust politicians based on this information. But even
if you don t particularly like any of the candidates, do you really know them? And should it
matter whether you like them or not? Perhaps a politician s stance on issues important to you is
more important than whether or not they are likeable. Even if it s choosing the lesser of two or
more evils in your eyes, voting is still an important way for you to voice your opinion about the
subjects you care about most.
5.Can t get to the polls
Getting to polling locations can be a hassle, especially for the disabled, the sick, and people without
transportation. In addition, voting becomes even more difficult for

The Reefs And Its Effects On The Coral Reefs
Puerto Rico is built from a volcano. So along the coast of Puerto Rico, there are many coral
reefs. This island I chose to look at, is called Desecheo Island or Isla de Desecheo. It s just of the
coast of Puerto Rico. The coral reefs in the island are continental reefs according to
geomorphologists( people who study physical features of the Earth s surface). It is a fringing
reef around the coast of the island and a shelf reef beyond that. In the fringing reef, the depth of
the reef is mixed between shallow and deep. When it gets near the shelf reef areas, the depth gets
deeper. The coastal averages is about 80 degrees fahrenheit with high density. The biodiversity is
very high in coral reefs. A coral reeftakes about one percent of the ocean, but it has around
twentyfive percent marine life. This means a lot to the coral reefs because the more species can
lead to better conditions. There are many different kinds of fishthat may eat algae, which can
protect the coral. Bigger fish or even sharks keep the population of smaller fish in good hands.
Some fish can hurt the zooxanthellae. Then there are cleaners that eat up dead organisms and
keep the reef look nice. Economically, the coral reefs are very good. Fisherman can fish and tourist
love to go snorkeling in coral reefs. However, that isn t always that great for the coral reef itself.
Coral reefs provide people with food, medicine, and tons of revenue. Abiotic factors that are
necessary for a coral reef are

He is a mysterious guy and a bit naughty to the ladies he has seen. As one of the character said, he

James Watson: Watson has the wit and capabilities to do the research he is doing. Once he wants

the Noble Prize.
Francis Crick: Similar with Watson, Crick is also eager to finish the study as soon as possible. He
is also one of the awardees of the Noble Prize.
Rosalind Franklin: She wanted to do the research on her own. She studies alone and makes it well.
She also contributed to the discovering of the double helix but kept the study herself.
Maurice Wilkins: He is one of the awardees of the Noble Prize. And he also contributed his
previous researches to Watson and Crick.
Why this movie is called Race for the Double Helix ? Do you think scientific research should be
a race? Why? Why not? In my opinion on why was the movie called Race for the Double Helix ,
because at the middle of the presentation, although Franklin and Wilkins find it difficult to work
together, the possibility of their collaboration heats up the race to discovery, as Watson and Crick
see it. Watson and Crick knew that there was someone who is also doing the discovering for the

The Things That Makes One Tick
In other words, what are the things that makes one tick? That brings us to choose certain paths,
even if the underlying truth of these paths hasn t been recognized. The things that makes us ticks
can be thought of mistakes. A professor of psychology and behavioral economics, Dan Ariely,
studied this issue up close. Through his book, Predictably Irrational, these mistakes are both
explained and contextualized as human error. Something that all of us do on a daily basis without
any recognition. And even when we recognize our misconceptions, we still have a tendency to do it
again. While reading Predictably Irrational, I came across several personal . Things like,
procrastinationand overvaluing materialistic things are two of many misconceptions I have been
aberrant to. We, humans, have a tendency to be aberrant, walking out of reasonable paths and into
irrational ones. Ariely thoroughly explains how emotions dictate behaviors and decisions we
make. Us procrastinators, acknowledge that we do infact procrastinate. The real problem is how
we act, knowing we have tendencies to procrastinate. Emotions rush through our veins and speaks
louder then our consciousness. As Ariely explained, we are in the cool state when we are making
promises such as, spending less or exercising more with a diet. But as soon as we spot materialistic
things, our emotions come rush in bringing us to the hot state. When we ignore our long term goals
for the immediate fulfilment, we are in fact

Following after the Baroque period (1600 1750) and the Classical period (1750 1820) came the
Romantic period (1820 1900). The Romantic period gave birth to intense energy and passion to
composers to let loose their imagination to their works. This period allowed composers to put in

complexities and mysteries. In the process, Steinbeck warps life s realities into his own modernized
utopia, demonstrating how even the most down on their luck of communities can become a
paradigm of contentment. In order to present his findings on life s intricacies, he utilizes an
exquisite partnership of style and form. Style and form both impact Steinbeck s purpose in the
novel, specifically in the form of a complicated set of vignettes, anecdotes, off tangent musings, and
advanced sentence structures. They work in sync while mirroring the unique... Show more content

They are somewhat vulgar and they use improper grammar and abbreviate the pronunciation of
certain words. A prime example of this is the conversation the boys have while out catching
frogs for Doc. Mac is thinking about the idea of giving a gift to Doc and says But s pose we give
him something except whiskey, maybe cufflinks with his initials [to which Hazel responds] Oh,
horseshit...Doc don t want stuff like that (74). This kind of language is typical of Mack and his
friends throughout the book. They use s pose instead of suppose, except instead of other than or
besides, vulgar expressions instead of tame ones, and don t instead of doesn t. This helps to
illustrate the complex nature of humans and their relationships. While Doc generally speaks
proper English, the bums have a rough manner of speaking. Additionally, Lee Chong s voice has
a significant lack of a certain letter. According to the narrator, He spoke a stately English without
ever using the letter r (5 6). One example of this is when Mack comes to make a deal with him on
the Palace Flophouse and Grill, Lee says You like pay lent my place? (10). By using such
characterization for each of his individual character, Steinbeck captures human complexities and
thus captures life s complexities. The microscopic differences in the way each character speaks

Life Choices in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and...
Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening both portray
weighing of choices in life. The former is about youth and experiencing life and the latter is
about old age, or more probably, an old spirit wearied by life. In both poems the speaker is in a
critical situation where he has to choose between two paths in life. In The Road Not taken the
speaker chooses the unconventional approach to the decision making process, thus showing his
uniqueness and challenging mentality while in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening the
speaker seeks a life without any pain and struggle but at the end, he has to comply with social
obligation, which reflects his responsibility towards the society.
In the poem, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By choosing the harder path, the speaker declares his rebellion against the popular opinion as
represented by the other road. He decides not to conform to society and takes up a less popular
choice. When considering his choices the speaker shows the typical human reaction. He considers
taking both paths at first. He says, Oh I kept the first for another day , but later confesses he
doubted if [he] should ever come back (13 15). Thus the poem s significance lies in the speakers
making a decision by choosing a road and moving on with his life. The act of choosing the road
represents his uniqueness and the fact that he is always moving forward, even without stopping.
Like The Road Not Taken , in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , the speaker has to make
a big decision in his life. He has to choose between isolation and social obligation. At first glance,
this poem might denote stopping in the woods to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Different symbols in this poem though reveal that stop in the poem could be referring to death.
In this phrase Between the woods and frozen lake , the wood becomes a symbol of life where
frozen lake signifies death. When the speaker reaches the woods, he finds a world offering
perfect, quiet and solitude, existing side by side with the realization that there is also another
world, a world of people and social obligation. Both

Essay on Red Lobster s Ethical Dilemma
Red Lobster s Ethical Dilemma Term Paper
Gerry Mullen, CEO of Red Lobster restaurants, has been faced with a dilemma. He recently
received an email from Terry Modotti, Vice President for Public Relations concerning the lobster
retrieval in La Mosquitia, also known as the Mosquito Coast. The article states that many of the
young working men are being killed and maimed to make lobsters available at cheap process to
consumers in the United States. The men, known as buzos, must dive up to 130 feet for lobster, and
face dangerous decompression sickness which begins with paralysis and ends in a slow death.
This is due to the fact that there are no medical or decompression facilities on the boats, and there
is also no equipment to aid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another disadvantage of implementing this option would be that net earnings would decrease
due to a decrease in consumers, and shareholders will be angered by the decreasing figures of the
company. With all of the negativity being placed upon the company as a result of this option, a
bad light would be shown on the CEO and the company, especially since Gerry is relatively new.
Since there are clearly more disadvantages than advantages for Gerry and Red Lobster by
exercising this option, I would advise Gerry to further pursue other options. Another option with
which Gerry could investigate would be for Red Lobster to offer to pay a higher price for
lobster to boat companies in the Mosquito Coast in order for the divers to receive a higher salary
cut. A possible advantage to this is that it would provide a better living environment for the
divers. It is stated in the article that after the sacabuzos (middlemen), boat captains, and fish
processors take their share of the money, what remains for the buzos is a mere $2 per pound of
lobster fetched. Within a two week time period, this rate will amount to about $300. If the divers
are trying to support families, $300 for two weeks is quite meager. By increasing the price that
Red Lobster is willing to pay for wholesale lobster, the divers will benefit considerably due to a
higher salary. Another advantage to a higher salary would mean that more individuals would be
inclined to become divers,

Characteristics Of The American Dream
For some eras and numerous decades, the idea of the American dream has guaranteed democratic
culture and material thriving. For some, the thought of flourishing stayed only a fantasy. In any
case, for a plethora of Americans in the 1950s, the American Dream turned into a reality. Post war,
they had within their field of reach was the opportunity to have so much more than their
predecessors. The 1950 s in America were described by post war wealth and economically great
circumstances. With the dismays of communism still new in everybody s brain, Americans were

New families drove the requirement for lodging and William Levitt was the first to jump on this
opportunity. He drove the increase of rural areas with his reasonably priced mass created homes.
From 1946 to 1958 GNP more than doubled. The creation of interstate mega highways, freeways
and the ensuring of home advances for suburban one family homes helped boost industries. With
openings for the opportunity to receive an education given by the G.I. Bill and the advancements in
various industries, a road was paved to economic prosperity. However, this prosperity was not
shared with all as millions were left poor. Farmers, African Americans and other minorities existed
at levels beneath those necessary for human decency, and were often left without adequate housing
and education and medical care, which left them lacking the civil right of equal opportunity.
The politics of the 1950 s included the start of our Cold War with Russia, the Korean War,
McCarthyism and the domestic civil rights movement. After World War II, Russia and the United
States developed as the world s new superpowers. With the United States distrust of communist
Russia and Russia s distrust of the U.S, the start of an all out battle between communistic atheism
and Christianity, for the control of the world was denoted. The Korean War went from 1950 1953
amongst North and South Korea with Communists supporting North Korea and the U.S and its
allies helping South Korea. Harry S.

It seems that in going through Chiquita s company background, that they have been somewhat of
a shady brand since its origin. Eli Black, CEO in 1970, paid a US$1.25 million bribe to Honduran
official in return for them reducing taxes on the company s banana exports. He then proceeded to
kill himself. The next CEO, Carl Linder, was know for bottom fishing and led the company into
bankrupty in 2002. Next in line to assume the title was Agguire.
It seemed that he was faced with an overwhelming load of problems from Chiquita s past, but he
quickly decided on the best way to fix it. He told CEO Magazine in 2007, [Chiquita s] key
challenge is to control costs while supporting innovation efforts. Cost saving programs have not
been nearly enough to offset higher industry and other costs. He said also that the second challenge
is to remain agile in a competitive, fast paced marketplace that is characterized by growing
consumer expectations [...] and that in order to strengthen the [...] power of the brand, [they] are
developing strategies based on consumer brands for healthy, fresh foods and focusing on
diversification and innovation (5). He made it clear from the beginning that Chiquita would be
transitioning from the low margin operations to a company that produced more value added
products. Also, that they would begin to maintain an excellent record of food safety, quality,

According to the United States Department of Justice every forty seconds a child is being
abducted. This works out to be about 2,000 abductions per day and 800,000 abductions per year.
This would be 11.4 children per every 1,000 children being abducted. Seventy five percent of
abductions are committed by males. Sixty seven percent of these perpetrators are under the age of
twenty nine. Seventy four percent of children abducted are girls. Seventy one percent of the

AMBER Alerts are issued after law enforcement determines that there has been abduction. Law
enforcement must believe that the missing child is in danger of harm. An Alert can only be issued
by law enforcement. Abductions by strangers are the most dangerous and are the primary mission
of the Alert. AMBER Alerts are issued for children under the age of seventeen. Each state has its
own age limits, but the majority uses seventeen as the cut off. Descriptive information is given of
the missing child, the abductor, and the abductor s vehicle used in the abduction. The missing child
s name is placed into the National Crisis Information Center (NCIC) system. Not only is the
AMBER Alert named after Amber Hagerman, but AMBER also stands for America s Missing
Broadcast Emergency Response (Child Abduction, AMBER Alert, and Crime Control Theater).
About 250 to 300 AMBER Alerts are issued each year. To keep up with changing times AMBER
Alerts are moving into the Web network. To be effective, more people need to be reached, and to
do this the Internet is needed. The old system when it was activated could take up to an hour for
all sources to be reached. In abduction, a rapid response can be crucial. With the new system, partly
financed by Hewlett Packard and other technical companies, one key password can send messages
immediately. About thirteen states use this as part of their Alert system. Law enforcement enters

dystopian world, Guy Montag, the protagonist, is a fireman. Montag meets free thinking

When thinking of a flame most people think of a campfire. When starting a fire it starts with a
spark, but very dull. As it continues to grow it gains a brighter light, the novel is just like this. The
rebellion in Montag s heart is very dull, but by the end, it is a bright bonfire. Most of the kindling
is collected and put onto the fire at this part. When he has to burn down his own house it makes
it so he has nothing to lose, it shows that he is like a phoenix. The novel says that he felt like his
old life was buried under the debris (Bradbury 118). He is reborn as not the old Montag that
society wanted, but the true Montag that has been hiding inside of him, waiting to burst free. The
true Montag gains a brighter fire while talking to the book people. They nurture him in the short
time the novel shows them together. They bring about his fire, but it is not them that brings the
brightest point of Montage, it is the bombing of the city. The bombing causes it so Montag can
remember what he has read, and that is the highest point of his fire (Bradburry 165). He has a
purpose, a better one than book burning, and he knows

Gothic Architecture In The Renaissance
The Renaissance was the following period after the Middle ages in European history. This period
was the time of rebirth of the Roman and Greek education where people slowly began to turn back
and reflect their ancestral way of mind. The Europeans, whose lives were so centered on the
thought of their soul entering the afterlife and specifically Heaven has now diminished. They did
not do action just because they had to, but they decided to do action for the better quality of human
life. Europeans began to focus on the present, logic, reason, and the reality that even though they
still considered themselves as Christians, they did not act the same way as they did in the past. In
the Renaissance, most medieval idea was altered. The Catholic church in the medieval time was
using gothic architecture that was flourishing throughout Europe. It had the flying buttresses that
seemed to reach out into Heaven, but by the time the Renaissance came along, it had longed been
expired. The cathedrals built in this period was constructed with the classical style of the
Romanesque era. Therefore, the ones like the cathedral built by Brunelleschi in Florence does not
have the gothic flying buttresses, but instead, the Roman dome. Now, the cathedrals were built so
that God has seemed like He was amongst the people. The style of music was also influenced by
the time of the Renaissance. Music was no longer under the full control of the Church. Instead,
Europeans began to play

  • 2. Racism And The World And Me The Most Known Unknown in the World Racism has been and always will be a form of segregation concurrently and in the history of humanity. From Ancient times to current, the status of segregation by any means of oppression privy of power, wealth, and prestige has been as second nature as drinking water. While Coates has his own perspective of reality and its structure, it s interesting that a so called genius had taken almost 30 years to finally see the true nature of the beast he frequented. That Beast known as Racist America and all if its capitalist racial qualities. While some have their own experiences and perspectives, Between The World and Me , past historical events on racismin America; including the Civil Rights Movement, correlative measures of other countries on racism and the slave trade, and the many obstacles that are implemented to secure such advantages will continue to be the key topics of discussion. Interpretively speaking on Between The World and Me , Ta Nehisi Coates speaks upon the current state of racial relations similarly to W.E.B. Dubois Color Line of the 21st Century. It is the indirect, non named, hiding in the shadows, racism that is so heavily intertwined and implemented in our cultural and social structures. (Kelley, Robin) Simon and Garfunkel wrote a song eerily similar to this theme, The Sound of Silence , and although it pre dates the release of Coates book, it gives great concern of the existing issues that have adapted and ... • 3. Lyrics To A Humorous Song 7 HARDEST SONGS TO SING Narrator: Songs are words set to music and meant to be sung. Some people are born with innate abilities to sing well that amaze and melt our hearts. But not all people just find it easy in fact even talented singers also find some songs that are difficult to sing. In this video, I will reveal 7 hardest songs to sing. No 7. Over the Rainbow Over the Rainbow is a song by Judy Garland. This song is difficult in a way that the singer will simply sing this ballad with enough emotions to enthral the audience and take them with the journey. It s not technical versatility that makes it difficult. My mother made an impressive latte art with food colors. She calls it coffee rainbows. No 6. Even talented singers find this song as one of the hardest to sing especially the chorus because it is not easy to hit the high note so other singers just change it the way they can handle. Balloons are scared of Pop music. No 4. Loving You Loving You is a classic soul genre of Minnie Riperton under the album, Perfect Angel released in 1974. It is necessary that you have the right voice for this song because only very few can pull off a falsetto most especially the smooth and tender. It is a song of technical articulation. No 3. Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush is one of the hardest songs to sing because of the key changes, the transition to the chorus and the signature changes. To sing this song well, your voice must suit to this song with balance and power or else you may end up sounding like wails. No 2. Dream On Dream On was written by Steven Tyler on and off for six years and sung by Aerosmith. This song is about hunger to be somebody and dream until dreams come true. It is considered as one of the hardest songs to sing because of the number of vocal slides and long notes. A headband makes music on my head. No 1. Bohemian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Allusions In The Crucible You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts. The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way, he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore, the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not ... The Synoptic Problem Essay Liberty University The Synoptic Problem A paper submitted to Dr. Charles Powell In partial fulfillment of the Requirements for the course NBST 525 Liberty Theological seminary By La Shawn Self Lynchburg, Virginia Sunday, August 14, 2011 The books of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; where written over 2000 years ago. These books excluding the Gospel of John are often called the synoptic Gospels. The term synoptic is derived from the Greek word meaning seeing together. These three books are comparable in their recording of the existence and ministry of Jesus. The wording of the synoptic Gospels is similar as well. The common belief among source critics is that, the Gospel of Mark is the oldest and Matthew and Luke used his gospel along with an unknown source to write their Gospels. Evidence supporting this view make the makes four points. First, the Luke s Gospel is contains approximately half of Mark s information and Matthew s Gospel encompasses almost all of Mark s views. Second, Mark s words are used verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same sequence of events as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s uncomfortable passages of scripture to allow smooth transitions and ease of understanding.[5] Markan Priority The Markan Priority is the belief that Mark was the first to write his account then Matthew and Luke used his recordings along with an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is said that Matthew and Luke used Mark s account and another unknown source to write their versions of the gospel, it is also believed that Mark used some unknown source to supplement his gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan Priority To accept the Markan Priority one must first denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit would bring all things back to their remembrance ; the testimonies of the early church leaders and historical facts. Also, if Matthew and Luke were present at the same time that Mark was present, why would they need to use Mark s account?[7] Some authors believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Level Of Competition In The Soft Drinks Industry The level of competition in an industry determines the number of profits made by players in the industry. An industry with a high level of profits is likely to attract many players which erode the profits made by firms gradually. A firm seeking to venture into a new industry should evaluate the level of profits in an industry as well as how intense competition is in the industry before making a move. Porter s five forces model provides a comprehensive framework that can be used to evaluate how intense the competition is in the industry. The soft drinks industry is an industry that is very profitable but also exhibits cut throat competition. Coca Cola and Pepsi companies are the players with much dominance in the soft drinks industry. This paper explores the competition between Coca Cola and Pepsi companies dubbed cola wars in the context of Porter s five forces model. Threat of New Entrants (Low) This force analyzes the ease or difficulty of a new player entering an industry. Industries that are profitable but have minimal barriers to entry attract many players who make the profits to plummet. Profits decrease when a large number of firms compete for a limited market share (Hill Jones, 2010). Therefore, existing players, particularly in a profitable industry, should create extensive barriers to entry to deter new firms from entering the industry. Although there s hundreds of types of vehicles in America, the types teenagers drive may be categorized into specific groups. The best way to classify an American teenager s first car is into three body types: sedans, coupe, and SUV s. Sedans, which is a four door automobile, seem to be one of the safest types cars to date; therefore, numerous parents of teenagers decide to purchase these as first cars for their children. • 10. Ethnic Inequality Ethnic inequality The stereotypes derived from ethnic differences are a crucial source of inequality found in education outcomes. According to Steele and Aronson (1995, p. 808), the concept of stereotype threat refers to the condition of individuals at risk of conforming to the negative stereotypes associated with them, which lead to self characterisation. This analysis of stereotype threat is important because ethnicity plays a role in reproducing unequal academic performances. For instance, past research has identified poorer mathematical performance in white men who were confronted with the stereotype of Asian superiority in maths, compared to those without such confrontation (Aronson et al. 1999, pp. 37 38). Similarly, a study has proven how the cultural stereotype of black s intellectual inferiority is an affecting factor to the academic performances of African American college students, as they perform poorer when stereotype was reinforced (Steele Aronson 1995). These studies contend how ethnicity plays a part in categorising individuals into separate identities, which have the ability to generate inequality in educational outcomes. Additionally, the different cultural orientations of certain ethnic groups may either encourage or discourage an individual s academic achievements (Kao Thompson 2003, p. 419). To illustrate, in the United States (US), Asians represent the 54 per cent of individuals with bachelor s degree, whereas Hispanics reported the lowest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allende and Peter Winn s Weavers of Revolution Essay Allende and Peter Winn s Weavers of Revolution In Peter Winn s Weavers of Revolution, a factory in Santiago, Chile fights for their independence against the Chilean government of the 1970 s. While this rebellion is going on, presidential elections are taking place and Salvador Allende is the presidential candidate which represents the common people. The relation between Allende and the people he represents is a unique one because at first this class, the working class, helps and supports Allende to become president, but then both parties realize their different plans for the future and the working class actually contributes to the downfall of Allende s presidency. At first, the working class heavily supported Allende s campaign. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allende based his campaign around the unfairness of Chile s society to the working class, and the Yarur factory gave him the support he needed to win the election. Once Allende becomes elected, the two revolutions which were supposed to compliment each other actually start to work against each other. The first type of revolution is the revolution from below , which is characteristic of the workers in the Yarur rebelling against the Chilean government. The other type is the revolution from above , this was the revolution common of the higher class like Allende working towards workers rights. At first, the workers think that their revolution from below was only helping Allende s revolution from above. The workers did things like form unions for the first time, or were even so bold to strike against the mill in order to gain complete control over it. Strikes had happened before which were about things like wages or unions, but this was different for the fact that they wanted total control of the mill. Allende was forced to give the workers the power to control the mill. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett has the theme of belonging. This essay will be covering how Mary, Colin, Mrs. Medlock, and Lord Craven all applied to the theme in their own way whether it be for better or for worse. Also, what scenes and symbols were useful and played an important role to the theme of belonging. First off, Mary shows how this theme applies to her in many ways, but the scene when Mary first discovers the garden really stands out. This part in the movie is a major key to the whole story. In Australia, the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 (Imp) is the primary source by which society operates as an essentially free society. This paper seeks to establish that the functioning of such a society is dependent upon the existence of a legal framework supporting the rule of law, which is ultimately, an ideology. Analogically, the circumstances in which the application of the rule of law has either created a free society or undermined it will be explored and its purposes thus inferred to construct a definition of the rule of law reflecting contemporary... In asserting its judicial independence, the High Court in Plaintiff S157/2002 v Commonwealth stated it was the ultimate decision maker in all matters where there is a contest. The courts would not be relying on its discretion, but rules which will apply equally in the future. Thus, refining Dicey s definition, Zywicki views rule based decision making as a basic concept of the rule of law. Contrarily, Sykes suggests discretion may be a matter of necessary efficiency which is more valuable than strictly adhering to the rule of law. The rule of law, then, does not encapsulate the absolute value of society. Sykes refers to police discretionary power; however, this concept of balancing the rule of law against other values may be extended to situations wherein exceptions and defences in law apply to certain groups. Consider the conferral of legal privilege and the requirement of confidentiality on legal practitioners in criminal law whereas equality before the law operates in favour of the client, the law of legal privilege applies only to legal practitioners. Nevertheless, the nineteenth century Christian churches of the Caribbean Islands created a racial distinction between humans which determined who could and who could not be granted eternal life through the Christian faith. Despite the rapid social changes taking place, common law marriages and concubinage are still present in Caribbean and will perhaps be for a long time. • 22. Compare And Contrast Liberalism And Socialism These past few weeks we as a class have read and discussed so many different political ideologies including liberalism and socialism. According to John Rawls s theory of justice for a liberal society, liberalism can be seen as the interpretation of two principles, where the goal is to make the person who is worst of better on distributive shares and also to attempt to even out class barriers, school system be it public or private. Rawls s starts with the idea that citizens do not deserve to be born into a rich or a poor family, to be born naturally more or less gifted than others, to be born female or male, to be born a member of a particular racial group All social goods are to be distributed equally, unless an unequal distribution would be to everyone s advantage. Whereas socialism is similar where they want everyone to be equal, to have equal amounts, and to the rid a society of a free market. Socialism s intent is to only have those consuming producing. Any inequalities must improve everyone s situation, and especially the situation of the worst off. Justice is like a social contract in which people come together to choose the basic principles that will govern their society. Justice is the first virtue of social institutions. Injustice is simply inequalities that are not to the benefit of all. The Main idea of the theory of justice is the theory of social contract as found in say Locke, Rousseau, and Kant. Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments and I mean all of them trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I ve probably played it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone. The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I became really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter of weeks. Unlike other countries where dictators and monarchs make decisions on behalf of the people, Americans get the right to decide who runs the country and what laws should govern citizens. But even though voting is an important privilege, most Americans simply don t vote, and some of their reasons may surprise you. Here are seven common reasons most Americans don t vote. 1.They think their vote won t count Many Americans don t vote because they think their vote doesn t count. But in reality, voting lines are seldom long, even for high profile presidential races. With the advent of new technology, voting is becoming easier and more efficient than ever before, and this allows voters to get in and out without having to wait in long lines. This excuse is becoming less and less relevant as time goes on. 6.Don t like the candidates Politicians are sometimes easy to dislike. Their flaws are often aired publicly for the entire world to see, and many people generally distrust politicians based on this information. But even if you don t particularly like any of the candidates, do you really know them? And should it matter whether you like them or not? Perhaps a politician s stance on issues important to you is more important than whether or not they are likeable. Even if it s choosing the lesser of two or more evils in your eyes, voting is still an important way for you to voice your opinion about the subjects you care about most. 5.Can t get to the polls Getting to polling locations can be a hassle, especially for the disabled, the sick, and people without transportation. This island I chose to look at, is called Desecheo Island or Isla de Desecheo. It s just of the coast of Puerto Rico. The coral reefs in the island are continental reefs according to geomorphologists( people who study physical features of the Earth s surface). It is a fringing reef around the coast of the island and a shelf reef beyond that. In the fringing reef, the depth of the reef is mixed between shallow and deep. When it gets near the shelf reef areas, the depth gets deeper. The coastal averages is about 80 degrees fahrenheit with high density. The biodiversity is very high in coral reefs. A coral reeftakes about one percent of the ocean, but it has around twentyfive percent marine life. This means a lot to the coral reefs because the more species can lead to better conditions. There are many different kinds of fishthat may eat algae, which can protect the coral. Bigger fish or even sharks keep the population of smaller fish in good hands. Some fish can hurt the zooxanthellae. Then there are cleaners that eat up dead organisms and keep the reef look nice. Economically, the coral reefs are very good. Fisherman can fish and tourist love to go snorkeling in coral reefs. However, that isn t always that great for the coral reef itself. That brings us to choose certain paths, even if the underlying truth of these paths hasn t been recognized. The things that makes us ticks can be thought of mistakes. A professor of psychology and behavioral economics, Dan Ariely, studied this issue up close. Through his book, Predictably Irrational, these mistakes are both explained and contextualized as human error. Something that all of us do on a daily basis without any recognition. And even when we recognize our misconceptions, we still have a tendency to do it again. While reading Predictably Irrational, I came across several personal . Things like, procrastinationand overvaluing materialistic things are two of many misconceptions I have been aberrant to. We, humans, have a tendency to be aberrant, walking out of reasonable paths and into irrational ones. Ariely thoroughly explains how emotions dictate behaviors and decisions we make. Us procrastinators, acknowledge that we do infact procrastinate. The real problem is how we act, knowing we have tendencies to procrastinate. Emotions rush through our veins and speaks louder then our consciousness. As Ariely explained, we are in the cool state when we are making promises such as, spending less or exercising more with a diet. The former is about youth and experiencing life and the latter is about old age, or more probably, an old spirit wearied by life. In both poems the speaker is in a critical situation where he has to choose between two paths in life. In The Road Not taken the speaker chooses the unconventional approach to the decision making process, thus showing his uniqueness and challenging mentality while in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker seeks a life without any pain and struggle but at the end, he has to comply with social obligation, which reflects his responsibility towards the society. Since there are clearly more disadvantages than advantages for Gerry and Red Lobster by exercising this option, I would advise Gerry to further pursue other options. Another option with which Gerry could investigate would be for Red Lobster to offer to pay a higher price for lobster to boat companies in the Mosquito Coast in order for the divers to receive a higher salary cut. A possible advantage to this is that it would provide a better living environment for the divers. It is stated in the article that after the sacabuzos (middlemen), boat captains, and fish processors take their share of the money, what remains for the buzos is a mere $2 per pound of lobster fetched. This period was the time of rebirth of the Roman and Greek education where people slowly began to turn back and reflect their ancestral way of mind. The Europeans, whose lives were so centered on the thought of their soul entering the afterlife and specifically Heaven has now diminished. They did not do action just because they had to, but they decided to do action for the better quality of human life. Europeans began to focus on the present, logic, reason, and the reality that even though they still considered themselves as Christians, they did not act the same way as they did in the past. In the Renaissance, most medieval idea was altered. The Catholic church in the medieval time was using gothic architecture that was flourishing throughout Europe.
