A Qualitative Research Assignment
Quantitative Research Assignment Music is very popular in the world. It s always changing. They re
so many different types of music: rap, pop, jazz, rock, gospel, country, and even more. They re so
many songs out in the world that has cover songs. In this paper I had to choose any song from any
genre and two covers of the original song and conduct a survey. I chose to stick with pop music
because that s what most people prefer. The song that I chose was Hello by Adele. My two covers are
made by The Animal In Me, cover one, and Leroy Sanchez, cover two. Doing the survey I will learn
how people respond to cover songs. I predict that most people would choose the second cover song by
Leroy Sanchez because it s a guy who sings and the way he sings it lets you know how he really feels
about what he s saying. Method I had to choose an original song; then find two covers of the song and
give a survey. I chose Hello by Adele as my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Animal In Me made their version with the same instruments used in the original song and they
also kept the same lyrics as well. What they did to better their version, is that they made their Hello
with a little mixture of rock and pop music, instead of just pop. While the song Hello by Leroy
Sanchez was the same as the original song but was played by a male. My hypothesis was wrong. I
predicted that most people would prefer Hello by Leroy Sanchez rather than the one by Adele or The
Animal In Me. I thought people would chose Leroy version because it s a softer version of Adele, but
because The Animal In Me was something different then what you would normally hear, that s why
most people chose them instead. The reason why some covers disappoint listeners is because most
artist just remake the song just the way it was originally was instead of changing it up to something

Sisterhood In Lucy Baker s The Coquette
The bond of female friendship is an important factor in the novel, especially since Eliza finds herself
lonely without the companion of a female friend who might understand her plight; however, Eliza
does not have a friend who understands her perils. All of the people in her life, with the exception of
her mother, find Eliza beneath them. Eliza s thoughts and actions to some extent and helped the plot of
novel to grow in a significant manner. Baker states that the theme of sisterhood remains prominent
with Foster s work; however, the so called sisterhood is made up of petty, condemning ladies (Lucy
Freeman and Julia Granby) whose idea of friendship revolves about social status and gossip, even
concerning their dear friend (Foster, 127). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boyer is condescending and demonstrates her idea of an excellent partner (27). Lucy, like most
women at the time, found marriage to be a way of securing a socially and financially affluent future;
her description of Mr. Boyer, whose taste, manners and morals, are highly regarded, supports the
materialism of the time period. Baker finds that The Coquette is considered a tragic novel in that it
depicts the seduction and fall of a young woman, and the reader can track the tragic disintegration of
Eliza Wharton against her flagging commitment to precision and clarity in her language, her mode of
self expression; however, it seems that Eliza possesses the intelligence, as well as the sophistication to
understand. Foster s emphasis on the value of language alerts the reader to another movement in the
novel, one that the reader might celebrate: the voice of her society is awakened to its compromised
public voice regarding virtue, honor, and friendship. Eliza s queries on language throughout the novel
are ultimately shifted to her female circle, whose members recognize the need for their language to
reflect more clearly the reality of their world (Baker,

Beowulf And The Germanic Heroic Code Of Values,...
Every culture has its own set of values, beliefs, and customs. These values, beliefs and customs create
each unique culture, and these cultural constructions are directly and indirectly acquired throughout
the lifetime of the culture. A major part of culture is literature; the literature of the time reflects upon
daily life and society during the time that the story was composed. Beowulf, an epic poem, is one of
the most important and only works of Anglo Saxon literature. Much like a fable, the epic poem of
Beowulf had lessons that taught the people within this society how to behave. This essay will outline
how the importance of Christianity and the Germanic Heroic Code in Beowulf are revealed
throughout the epic poem as important aspects of the Anglo Saxon culture as a whole. The Germanic
warrior society had an unspoken code a list of rules that warriors and kings alike must uphold. The
main aspects of this code for warriors were strength, courage, loyalty and honour; and for kings were
loyalty to his warriors, generosity and a sense of responsibility. The character of Beowulf represents
both sides of this Code very well. Hrothgar, King of Denmark, represents the nobility s side of the
code: Then Halfdane s son presented Beowulf with a gold standard as a victory gift... that was both
precious object and token of honor...
And so their leader, the lord and guard of coffer and strongroom, with customary grace bestowed upon
Beowulf both sets of gifts.

What Are The Major Problems California Has Faced Since 2000
What are the major problems California has faced since 2000? How have the governors and legislature
dealt with these problems? What does the future hold for California? Chapter 40 41 For the
generations California was called The Golden State, , until the Great Recession had arrived. In the
beginning of December 2007, the American economy began to enter the Great Recession . This time
period was the longest economic downturn and period of high unemployment since the Great
Depression of the 1930 s. The economic decline was incited by the banking crisis in which mortgages
were freely given out to the borrowers, who sometimes were people without any stable income or with
little or no money down on the loan. The financial institutions ... Show more content on

In response, government entities severely reduced their spending and began large scale cutting of
public sector jobs. These fiscal cuts and job losses added to the continuance of the Great Recession.
In addition to the Housing Bible hit, California also lost 952,800 jobs between July 2007 and July
2009. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four year period between
July 2003 and July 2007. Particularly hard hit was the construction industry, in which the number of
jobs fell by almost 30 percent. By July 2009, California s rate of unemployment rate was at 11.9
percent. Another downside was that an estimated 1.4 million Californians were underemployed, many
working in low paying, part time jobs which lacked benefits such as healthcare. Many workers found
themselves working in positions in which they were overqualified and their skills were largely unused.
Although the federal government declared that the Great Recession had hit its low regression and the
hoped for economic recovery had begun in December 2009, California continued to suffer from the ill
effects of the financial blow.
During the recession period manufacturing, finance and real estate industries had experienced the
most and lost many workers. Even the workers, who were able to keep their jobs often found
themselves doing substantially more work for the same or lower pay. Often high tech video cameras

Causes And Effects Of Gettysburg
The American civil war
This text will be a summary of the most gruesome battle in the entirety of the civil war as well as a
little bit about the causes and effect of the Gettysburg battle. Which is arguably the most important
moment of the entire war.
The Civil war waged for an entire 4 years. Between the year 1861 and 1865. And the opponents in the
war were the United States against the Confederate states. This infamous split was due to the fact that
Lincoln became commander in chief of the United States, and because publicly pitted himself against
slavery and wished to work against the abolishment. The fact that this was an open opinion led to
great upset, mostly in the south were nearly the entire economy was based around slavery. This ...

standing of the war would be much different . Instead the exact opposite occurred as the northern

Victor Frankenstein Moral Analysis
Victor Frankenstein seemingly goes through several moral pitfalls throughout Mary Shelley s novel.
Between playing God and inviting life to be placed upon a concoction of otherwise left over body
parts, or, completely abandoning the Creature during its first second of life. Is either one morally
correct? No. But in my opinion, one is far worse than the other. Frankenstein is equally as defiant of
that of a teenager. As soon as he is told not to do something, there is no turning back, and he must then
follow through with his plan. For example, when he is told by both his father and more forwardly so
by his professor, M. Krempe, that Every minute, every instant that you have wasted on those books is
utterly and entirely lost after he mentioned his studies of natural philosopher s Cornelius Agrippa,
Albertus Magnus, and Paracelsus, Frankenstein immediately finds another professor who enables his
interests and urges him to continue, which he does. However, that all soon spirals out of control and he
finds himself in his laboratory day in and day out, obsessively carrying out his experiment, until
finally, he sparks life into his new creature. Playing God, when one is in fact a mere human, can never
have a good outcome. We as humans have a nasty habit of wanting instant gratification, and in this
case, to also prove the naysayers wrong. As human, there is no way for Frankenstein to ever
understand every possible outcome that may occur after this creature is brought into the

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is set in the time of the Holocaust and was written by John Boyne in
2006. It explores the evils of the Holocaust through the eyes of a nine year old boy. Bruno is ignorant
of the events and horror that surrounds his childhood. He meets a boy named Shmuel the boy in the

Nazi s discriminate the Jews because they are inferior or the other . The other is perceived as a person

Lieutenant Kotler is a nasty character who is one of the many soldiers who mistreat the Jews because
they are lesser in society. Literary Techniques of characterization, personality, point of view and mood
are used. Hey you! he shouted, and then another word that Bruno didn t understand. Come over here
you he said the word again, and something about the harsh sound of it made Bruno look away and feel
ashamed to be part of this all. Pavel came towards them and Kotler spoke to him insolently, despite
the fact that Kotler was young enough to be his grandson. And afterwards, when you return to the

repeated the word he had used twice already and he spat a little as he spoke. Characterization is a
fairly used literary technique. In this paragraph it explains Lieutenant Kotler s character; he is a very

only reason why Kotler speaks to Pavel like this is because lesser in society and he is a Jew. The point

completely different perspective from Kotler because Bruno thinks that everyone is equal. Bruno

The Between God And The Trinity
Trinity is the term used to explain the existence of the three natures of God in form of one. They
include God the head, Jesus the begotten son and Spirit of God. The belief gets different responses
from various doctrines and faiths. The term explains how the three exist in different ways but under
the same personality. To most Christians the trinity is a mystery as they try to figure out the nature of
three Gods in one. Jesus when he was on this earth emphasized on the trinity out to the whole world
and make people my followers, baptizing them in the name of the God the Father and of Jesus and of
Spirit of God. Mathew.28.29. The Catholic Church as a doctrine in particular also has its stand in this
mystery. The church in relation to the term trinity believes that there is unity in the three Gods but they
exist distinctly from each other. This means there are no three Gods but on God in different forms. The
term begotten is used to describe God the son that is Jesus the term means like producing an offspring
or making another breed of the original. Thus Jesus adopts the office by being begotten by the God the
father. Spirit of God is the third nature of God in the trinity. He precedes the trinity by a way of spirit
rather than generation
There is always a misconception from most people about the trinity and they perceive it differently.
They have misinterpreted the trinity to consist of three gods. This would display Christianity as
polytheism the belief in many gods.

I often wonder how much more amazing my mother would have been if she had been afforded the
opportunity of receiving a proper education. Last but not least, spirituality was highly valued in our
home more so than anything else. My mother was a strong woman of faith. She had to be because the
deck was stacked against her: she was black, widowed with little education. Though she had those
things against her, I believe those same things molded and shaped her to being the influential person
she was. My mother seen a lot of hard times, she was no stranger to adversity and obstacles but she
always believed in prayer and the fact that the Lord would make a way out of no way. When she had
nothing else she had her faith and it made everything alright.
My individual sense of identity When I was young I didn t really realize the impact of being African
American until high school. I went to a predominately white school for elementary and middle school.

Chimera Cather s The Lightning Thief
Books are often the inspiration to well known movies. However, people who love to dwell in a book
find themselves frustrated while watching the movie verse. When people read the book, they create
their own little movie in their minds. People use their imagination to make sense of many parts of the
book. When they watch the movie they are often disappointed since it doesn t match their
expectations. Books can easily project ideas to the reader that movies cannot. It is difficult for a movie
to follow a book precisely because it would be too much to sit through and watch. Therefore many

Mountaineering Should Be Closed
Is it worth to risking your life to climbing high mountains or look like a champion? I have any
opinions of how I feel about if Everest should be kept closed or opened. Mountaineering is a type of
sport that involves climbing on mountains. I don t think that Mt. Everest should be opened and I will
be explaining and giving my opinion of why I think Everest should be closed and not to be opened
again.
First of all, I think that doing mountaineering is a dangerous type of sport because you can put your
life at risk if you don t have the right materials. When people go mountaineering on Mt. Everest or
when it takes place in winter time, things can fall from the sky and can kill people. In source #2, it
states in 2012, there was a wedge of ice that fell and went down to a slope in chunks and the falling
ice killed twenty five men and their bodies were never found. The people who do mountaineering
should have more advanced materials for their safety and not put their life at risk. It s not just deaths,
but serious injuries have occurred because of dangerous sports like this. ... Show more content on

The Effects Of Melting Glaciers On Canada s Coastline Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION This problem could mark either the end of human civilizations or mark the
beginning of the next era of human development. It would decide on our species survival, whether
there will be another mass extinction like the one 65 million years ago. The question is How might the
breaking up and melting of continental ice in Greenland and the Antarctic affect Canada s coastline? .
In the following sections, we have gathered an abundance of information from a variety of sources
from which we will discuss, and analyze. We will find out how this data can help us understand the
effect of melting glaciers on Canada s coastline, as well as how and what we could do to stop or slow
it down. 2.0 ISSUE OVERVIEW The breaking of continental ice from Greenland and the Antarctic
has been slowly breaking off and melting for a long time. The continental ice which has broken off
melts faster and faster as it drifts towards the equator, eventually deposing all the fresh water ice into
the ocean. This process, which would slowly drown the coastlines of the entire world, including
Canada, is very dangerous for the survival of human civilizations. Due to Canada s larger and more
exposed urban coastal regions, it will suffer a harder blow than most other countries. Islands like
Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia will be hit particularly hard, losing a lot of its
farmland and coastal towns due to the melting and breaking off of continental ice. The continental ice

Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Sources
Alternative Energy Sources Air pollution, resulting from the burning of fossil fuels, amounts for about
7 million deaths each year. On average, 1 in 8 deaths are caused by some type of air pollution. Fossil
fuels are burned every day to keep the world functioning but are accompanied by tremendous amounts
of pollution. The world needs energy sources that are as effective as fossil fuels but that come with
less harmful pollutants than fossil fuels do. An effort must be made to pull away from harmful fossil
fuels and to switch over to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and geothermal
power. Switching over to cleaner energy is very important because of the eminent threat of global
warming that lurks just around the corner. If humans are not careful, they will damage the
environment and the atmosphere to a point beyond repair. Major factories and cities can begin to
convert to cleaner energy sources and cut back on pollution tremendously. They can do this by
harnessing energy from the sun, utilizing frequent gusts of wind, and by tapping into the heat of the
Earth s core.
Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas account for roughly 85 percent of total energy that is
used in the United States. All three of these fossil fuels release harmful gases such as carbon dioxide
and monoxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons into our atmosphere. The Union of

amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to cover the potential loss.
Although the term Value at risk has not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further
back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies
of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns
which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the
crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great
depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange
Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options
exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their
equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital
requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate
exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The
latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the
unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock market) financial derivatives (futures and options) by
Nick Leeson, a young trader in Singapore. In 1995, J.P. Morgan Chase made public his data on the

Compare And Contrast Japanese Constitution And Kawai s
CRITIQUE OF ROBERT E WARD S THE ORIGINS OF THE PRESENT JAPANESE
CONSTITUTION AND KAZUO KAWAI S, SOVEREIGNTY AND DEMOCRACY IN THE
JAPANESE CONSTITUTION . Robert E Ward and Kazuo Kawai were both political scientists who
wrote these articles during the Allied occupation of Japan; Ward wrote his article in December 1956
whilst Kawai wrote his article in September 1955 . Both authors have very similar arguments in
regards to the Japanese constitution that was put in place in 1947 by the Supreme Commander of the
Allied Powers an American initiative. Ward and Kawai argue that the constitution that was put in place
will be in some form reformed by the Japanese people. Kawai s primary point is that the Japanese

Kawai s main point is that the role of the emperor will be brought into question as his newly reduced
powers do not compliment Japan s social structure. Ward hold a similar argument in that he believes
that the constitution was rushed and poorly imposed upon Japan. Ward uses a detailed described of the
process as to which the constitution goes through and uses this to demonstrate how it s forcefully
imposed nature proved to be counterproductive for the American initiative. Both writers maintain the
notion that the constitution is an alien invention which proves less than productive for completing the
objective of creating a democratic Japan. The issue that arises from these articles is whether or not the
constitution was an effective or even a necessary change in Japan. The question as to whether or not
the constitution should be changed still exists today , as the current Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō
Abe wishes to, and has succeeded in, changing the constitution . Both arguments that are presented in
the articles are somewhat convincing. Subtracting the fact that the constitution remains unchanged
after both articles are written, the individual merits of the articles are convincing. Kawai argues that
the social hierarchy was one of the reasons

Candidates And Policy Of The United States Senate Elections
The names of the authors that wrote an article titled Candidates and Policy in the United States Senate
Elections are Gerald C. Wright and Michael B. Berkman. Although the previous literature on the
subject suggests, that policy is not a major factor in the decision making process, the article argued
otherwise.
It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race exists.
Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will write the
policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a candidate for a
political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have conservative candidates
regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have liberal candidates regardless
of party affiliation.
Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the
candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all
midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as
not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency),
then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. Accordingly,
Democrats lost the House of Representatives and some seats in the United States Senate in the 2010
midterm election. The Democratic Party lost the

The Jungle and In the Waiting Room
In today s world immigration and emigration has vastly increased. With these increased movements
around the world, the lack of communication creates many consequences. Without a language in
common the attempt at communication is a difficult process. In The Jungle, Upton Sinclair explores
the consequences of language barriers through a new immigrant family. The Lithuanian family do not
have the language skills required for their new life in America and everyday life is a struggle. The
problems that rise from a lack of communication lead to a path of destruction for the family.
Additionally, these problems eventually lead to devastation, manipulation and cause mental and
physical health issues. So, Sinclair presents the consequences they ... Show more content on

To draw attention to a specific topic in the texts emphasis is created through other methods. Authors
can fix the reader s attention to specific details they want to emphasize through the point of view in
the story. In both texts, different points of views are used to highlight the serious outcomes of
language barriers. Sinclair uses 3rd person omniscient point of view throughout the story and focuses
on Jurgis experiences and actions. Using an omniscient point of view allows Sinclair to explain to the
reader the outcome of certain actions before the characters experience them. As the family first
experiences the setting of their new life, the narration is used to show their lack of knowledge: They
were not sure that it was unpleasant, this odor; some might have called it sickening, but their taste in
odors was not developed (Sinclair 2) . The narration hints towards a future filled with unhappiness, it
foreshadows devastation from a lack of knowledge about the new environment. From the narration the
reader knows the future of the family but the characters themselves are not aware: Elzbieta, alas, did
not read the papers, and no one had told her; but perhaps it was as well, for just then they would not
have had the carfare to spare to go every day to wait upon the surgeon, nor for that matter anybody

effects of nationalism within a multicultural or multiethnic society. In your answer, discuss the
problems that a multicultural society poses to the formation of national identity and why you do or do
not believe that nationalism is compatible with the liberal state s emphasis upon individual rights and
freedoms.
The Age of liberal democracy is also the Age of nationalism (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Throughout
history, the relationship between nationalism and the emergence and proliferation of the liberal
democratic state has been closely intertwined. Examples of democratic states that rose in tandem with

He carried out genocide on the German Jews in order to create the perfect Aryan race. Hitler
successfully turned the Germans against each other based on anti Semitic ideals. From this point of
view, nationalism and the politics of ethnic cleansing represent the dark side of democracy (Bernard
Yack, 2003) . National identity becomes horribly wrong, especially in multinational societies, when
people sometimes rank identities hierarchically, leading to the rejection of another nation as inferior.
The modernist theories imply that until the beginning of the 19th century, almost no one had more
than local loyalties. National identity and unity were originally imposed from above, by European
states, because they were necessary to modernize the economy and society. In this theory, nationalist
conflicts are an unintended side effect. For state theorists, pervasive loyalty or devotion to the polity is
purposefully encouraged through the allocation of services and privileges, with the state adjudicating
disputes to bolster unity (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Ernest Gellner, a philosopher and social
anthropologist, argued that nations are a by product of industrialization. Modernization theorists
regard the printing press and capitalism as necessary conditions for nationalism. The greater the group
nationalism, the greater the group homogeneity of attitudes, beliefs, language spoken and ways of
behaving, the greater is the group cohesiveness. Partly as a result of

Compare And Contrast Direct Democracy Vs Representative...
Representative Democracy is better for the United States than a Direct Democracy.
Democracies are based on the citizen s ability to judge things such as laws, propositions, bonds,
budgets, representatives, and candidates. The type of democracy helps determine what the citizens are
judging. In a direct democracy citizens would be judging the candidates and issues themselves and in
a representative democracy, the citizens are judging the representatives and their ability to stay true to
the citizens wants and needs. The founding fathers were so sure in their decision to make a
representative democracy that they deliberately made ratifying the constitution very difficult. It takes a
very large majority of Senate and the House to get a proposal sent to the people for a vote that would
make the change and then the people have to approve the change with at least 75% voting in favor in
order to ratify the constitution. There are many reasons why a direct ... Show more content on

Human Resource Management And How Does It Affect An...
One would ask the question, What is Human Resource Management and how does it affect an
organization? According to Management Study Guide (n.d.), human resource management is the
practice of managing individuals in an organization through an organized and systematic method.
Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and
warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on by
the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Today, we will be
looking at three different ways in which human resource management affects an organization. One,
look at how human resource management influence an organizational performance. Next, I will be
sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource management
in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational performances.
According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies and practices add
value to organization and influences organizational performances by either improving efficiencies or
contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of human resource management in
an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the organizations goals, and be able to
expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments. Another way HRM can influence an
organization is through its talent philosophy.

Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises By Jake Barnes
The San Fermin Festival is a central point to The Sun Also Rises because it is where the climax is
reached in determining the maturation of Jake Barnes. The San Fermin Festival takes part every year
in Pamplona, Spain and consists of parties and bullfighting for a week. T. Peter Hays article, Hunting
Ritual in The Sun Also Rises, shows Hays belief The Sun Also Rises, and the San Fermin Festival in
the book, shows religious virtues instilled in the character of Jake Barnes. Although the San Fermin
Festival was originally a religious event, it has now become paganized like many other festivals or
holidays. The effect the war has had on Jake Barnes and other characters caused them to reject
religion; therefore, the purpose of The Sun Also Rises is not meant to parallel the Catholic Church or
exhibit religious virtues. World War I was the first time the world witnessed the abhorrent crimes man
is capable of. Jake Barnes witnessed these events while he was in the war. Not much is said about
specific atrocities Jake witnessed, but this silence was not uncommon amongst veterans. It is Count
Mippipopolous who sheds light upon war experience. My dear, I am sure Mr. Barnes has seen a lot.
Don t think I don t think so, sir. I have seen a lot, too (Hemingway, 1926, p. 60). When the Count says
this, it shows that Jake also must have witnessed much in the war. Jake is very closed off while talking
about his war experience because of the inhumane things man committed in the war. The war caused
many to reject religious philosophies because people could not believe a just God would allow man to
behave so cruelly to one another. Jake could not cope with what the war did to men, especially
himself. Jake s wound left him impotent and took away his ability to have an intimate relationship
with a woman. Jake claims to be a Catholic, but after all that has happened to him, and all that he has
seen, he cannot believe with Catholicism like those around him. While Bill and Jake were on the train
to Burgeune they are accompanied by a Catholic family. This is where we learn Jake is a Catholic, but
cannot sympathize with other Catholics. It s a pity you boys ain t Catholics. You could get a meal,
then, alright. I am, I

Early Mobilization in ICU Care Coordination The situation of Length of Stay (LOS) is a complex

The study of sociology brings people to view topics in a unique way than others. The way we see the

Second each structure has a function that contributes to the continued stability or equilibrium of the
unified whole. Therefore, everything is perceived in a big picture from a macro point of view on life in
our society. Manifest functions are the obvious, intended functions of a social structure, while latent
functions are the less obvious, perhaps unintended functions.
Conflict theory is the second major school of thought in sociology. It is a macro level type of approach
to understand social interactions in social life, just like functionalism. A difference in conflict theory is
that our society is viewed as always being in a constant struggle, unlike functionalism which theorizes
that our society is stable. Conflict theory is a paradigm that sees social conflict as the basis of society
and social change, and emphasizes a materialist view of society, a critical view of the status quo, and a
dynamic model of historical change. Some sociologists may believe that if these tensions, stresses, and
struggles never existed in our society people may be more driven to achieve greatness in education, or
simply more motivated to set higher goals. Just like functionalism, the conflict theory viewed society
on a macro sociological level, but the individual person in our society are having their lives shaped by
the economy, control and power. The conflict perspective s main idea is that there are opposing

The minds of the men turn darker as the novel goes along, further representing the major theme of

Likely as a result of war, Yossarian is presented with an irrational fear that anyone and everyone is out
to kill him. Even from the beginning of the novel, it is stated multiple times that Yossarian presumes
that people are intentionally trying to harm or kill him. From an outside point of view, it may seem
quite ridiculous, but given the circumstances and stress he is put under, it is obvious why he feels this
way. An example of a stressful situation in which Yossarian reacts with his fear is the line, The
crawlway was Yossarian s lifeline to outside from a plane about to fall, but Yossarian swore at it with

American History in the book White Devil Essay
Brumwell, Stephen. White Devil: A True Story of War, Savagery, and Vengeance in Colonial America.
Da Capo Press Inc. March, 2005. The book opens Nous sommes tours Sauvages, which translates to
We are all Savages. It s a fitting way to begin a book chronicling the story of Major Robert Rogers and
his rangers journey, Native American slaughter, and return home. In White Devil: A True Story of War,
Savagery, and Vengeance in Colonial America, author Stephen Brumwell depicts a well researched,
unbiased image of: war, hardship, courage, savagery, vengeance, and survival. Brumwell wants to
show his readers an image of the true nature of war and all the trimmings that goes along with it.

deserves a brunt of the detail. It was now good marching ground and the men pressed on with celerity

discovered the village of St. Francis at three miles distance, when the party were ordered to halt and
refresh themselves. At eight o clock in the evening, Major Rogers, Lieut. Turner and Ensign Avery left
the company and went forward for the purpose of reconnoitering the place. They found the Indians
engaged in a dance, evidently entertaining no apprehensions of an enemy in the vicinity. They
returned about two o clock in the morning and at three o clock, Rogers advanced with the whole party,

the purpose of making simultaneous attacks, in as many directions, were ordered to advance. Never
was a place more completely surprised, nor in a condition less capable of making any sort of

  • 2. A Qualitative Research Assignment Quantitative Research Assignment Music is very popular in the world. It s always changing. They re so many different types of music: rap, pop, jazz, rock, gospel, country, and even more. They re so many songs out in the world that has cover songs. In this paper I had to choose any song from any genre and two covers of the original song and conduct a survey. I chose to stick with pop music because that s what most people prefer. The song that I chose was Hello by Adele. My two covers are made by The Animal In Me, cover one, and Leroy Sanchez, cover two. Doing the survey I will learn how people respond to cover songs. I predict that most people would choose the second cover song by Leroy Sanchez because it s a guy who sings and the way he sings it lets you know how he really feels about what he s saying. Method I had to choose an original song; then find two covers of the song and give a survey. I chose Hello by Adele as my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Animal In Me made their version with the same instruments used in the original song and they also kept the same lyrics as well. What they did to better their version, is that they made their Hello with a little mixture of rock and pop music, instead of just pop. While the song Hello by Leroy Sanchez was the same as the original song but was played by a male. My hypothesis was wrong. I predicted that most people would prefer Hello by Leroy Sanchez rather than the one by Adele or The Animal In Me. I thought people would chose Leroy version because it s a softer version of Adele, but because The Animal In Me was something different then what you would normally hear, that s why most people chose them instead. The reason why some covers disappoint listeners is because most artist just remake the song just the way it was originally was instead of changing it up to something new and ... • 3. Sisterhood In Lucy Baker s The Coquette The bond of female friendship is an important factor in the novel, especially since Eliza finds herself lonely without the companion of a female friend who might understand her plight; however, Eliza does not have a friend who understands her perils. All of the people in her life, with the exception of her mother, find Eliza beneath them. Eliza s thoughts and actions to some extent and helped the plot of novel to grow in a significant manner. Baker states that the theme of sisterhood remains prominent with Foster s work; however, the so called sisterhood is made up of petty, condemning ladies (Lucy Freeman and Julia Granby) whose idea of friendship revolves about social status and gossip, even concerning their dear friend (Foster, 127). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boyer is condescending and demonstrates her idea of an excellent partner (27). Lucy, like most women at the time, found marriage to be a way of securing a socially and financially affluent future; her description of Mr. Boyer, whose taste, manners and morals, are highly regarded, supports the materialism of the time period. Baker finds that The Coquette is considered a tragic novel in that it depicts the seduction and fall of a young woman, and the reader can track the tragic disintegration of Eliza Wharton against her flagging commitment to precision and clarity in her language, her mode of self expression; however, it seems that Eliza possesses the intelligence, as well as the sophistication to understand. Foster s emphasis on the value of language alerts the reader to another movement in the novel, one that the reader might celebrate: the voice of her society is awakened to its compromised public voice regarding virtue, honor, and friendship. Eliza s queries on language throughout the novel are ultimately shifted to her female circle, whose members recognize the need for their language to reflect more clearly the reality of their world (Baker, ... • 4. Beowulf And The Germanic Heroic Code Of Values,... Every culture has its own set of values, beliefs, and customs. These values, beliefs and customs create each unique culture, and these cultural constructions are directly and indirectly acquired throughout the lifetime of the culture. A major part of culture is literature; the literature of the time reflects upon daily life and society during the time that the story was composed. Beowulf, an epic poem, is one of the most important and only works of Anglo Saxon literature. Much like a fable, the epic poem of Beowulf had lessons that taught the people within this society how to behave. This essay will outline how the importance of Christianity and the Germanic Heroic Code in Beowulf are revealed throughout the epic poem as important aspects of the Anglo Saxon culture as a whole. The Germanic warrior society had an unspoken code a list of rules that warriors and kings alike must uphold. The main aspects of this code for warriors were strength, courage, loyalty and honour; and for kings were loyalty to his warriors, generosity and a sense of responsibility. The character of Beowulf represents both sides of this Code very well. Hrothgar, King of Denmark, represents the nobility s side of the code: Then Halfdane s son presented Beowulf with a gold standard as a victory gift... that was both precious object and token of honor... And so their leader, the lord and guard of coffer and strongroom, with customary grace bestowed upon Beowulf both sets of gifts. A fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What does the future hold for California? Chapter 40 41 For the generations California was called The Golden State, , until the Great Recession had arrived. In the beginning of December 2007, the American economy began to enter the Great Recession . This time period was the longest economic downturn and period of high unemployment since the Great Depression of the 1930 s. These fiscal cuts and job losses added to the continuance of the Great Recession. In addition to the Housing Bible hit, California also lost 952,800 jobs between July 2007 and July 2009. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four year period between July 2003 and July 2007. Particularly hard hit was the construction industry, in which the number of jobs fell by almost 30 percent. By July 2009, California s rate of unemployment rate was at 11.9 percent. Another downside was that an estimated 1.4 million Californians were underemployed, many working in low paying, part time jobs which lacked benefits such as healthcare. Many workers found themselves working in positions in which they were overqualified and their skills were largely unused. Although the federal government declared that the Great Recession had hit its low regression and the hoped for economic recovery had begun in December 2009, California continued to suffer from the ill effects of the financial blow. • 8. Victor Frankenstein Moral Analysis Victor Frankenstein seemingly goes through several moral pitfalls throughout Mary Shelley s novel. Between playing God and inviting life to be placed upon a concoction of otherwise left over body parts, or, completely abandoning the Creature during its first second of life. Is either one morally correct? No. But in my opinion, one is far worse than the other. Frankenstein is equally as defiant of that of a teenager. As soon as he is told not to do something, there is no turning back, and he must then follow through with his plan. For example, when he is told by both his father and more forwardly so by his professor, M. Krempe, that Every minute, every instant that you have wasted on those books is utterly and entirely lost after he mentioned his studies of natural philosopher s Cornelius Agrippa, Albertus Magnus, and Paracelsus, Frankenstein immediately finds another professor who enables his interests and urges him to continue, which he does. However, that all soon spirals out of control and he finds himself in his laboratory day in and day out, obsessively carrying out his experiment, until finally, he sparks life into his new creature. Playing God, when one is in fact a mere human, can never have a good outcome. We as humans have a nasty habit of wanting instant gratification, and in this case, to also prove the naysayers wrong. As human, there is no way for Frankenstein to ever understand every possible outcome that may occur after this creature is brought into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Between God And The Trinity Trinity is the term used to explain the existence of the three natures of God in form of one. They include God the head, Jesus the begotten son and Spirit of God. The belief gets different responses from various doctrines and faiths. The term explains how the three exist in different ways but under the same personality. To most Christians the trinity is a mystery as they try to figure out the nature of three Gods in one. Jesus when he was on this earth emphasized on the trinity out to the whole world and make people my followers, baptizing them in the name of the God the Father and of Jesus and of Spirit of God. Mathew.28.29. The Catholic Church as a doctrine in particular also has its stand in this mystery. The church in relation to the term trinity believes that there is unity in the three Gods but they exist distinctly from each other. This means there are no three Gods but on God in different forms. The term begotten is used to describe God the son that is Jesus the term means like producing an offspring or making another breed of the original. Thus Jesus adopts the office by being begotten by the God the father. Spirit of God is the third nature of God in the trinity. He precedes the trinity by a way of spirit rather than generation There is always a misconception from most people about the trinity and they perceive it differently. The Effects Of Melting Glaciers On Canada s Coastline Essay 1.0 INTRODUCTION This problem could mark either the end of human civilizations or mark the beginning of the next era of human development. It would decide on our species survival, whether there will be another mass extinction like the one 65 million years ago. The question is How might the breaking up and melting of continental ice in Greenland and the Antarctic affect Canada s coastline? . In the following sections, we have gathered an abundance of information from a variety of sources from which we will discuss, and analyze. We will find out how this data can help us understand the effect of melting glaciers on Canada s coastline, as well as how and what we could do to stop or slow it down. 2.0 ISSUE OVERVIEW The breaking of continental ice from Greenland and the Antarctic has been slowly breaking off and melting for a long time. The continental ice which has broken off melts faster and faster as it drifts towards the equator, eventually deposing all the fresh water ice into the ocean. This process, which would slowly drown the coastlines of the entire world, including Canada, is very dangerous for the survival of human civilizations. Due to Canada s larger and more exposed urban coastal regions, it will suffer a harder blow than most other countries. Islands like Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia will be hit particularly hard, losing a lot of its farmland and coastal towns due to the melting and breaking off of continental ice. On average, 1 in 8 deaths are caused by some type of air pollution. Fossil fuels are burned every day to keep the world functioning but are accompanied by tremendous amounts of pollution. The world needs energy sources that are as effective as fossil fuels but that come with less harmful pollutants than fossil fuels do. An effort must be made to pull away from harmful fossil fuels and to switch over to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and geothermal power. Switching over to cleaner energy is very important because of the eminent threat of global warming that lurks just around the corner. If humans are not careful, they will damage the environment and the atmosphere to a point beyond repair. Major factories and cities can begin to convert to cleaner energy sources and cut back on pollution tremendously. They can do this by harnessing energy from the sun, utilizing frequent gusts of wind, and by tapping into the heat of the Earth s core. Although the term Value at risk has not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock market) financial derivatives (futures and options) by Nick Leeson, a young trader in Singapore. It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race exists. Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will write the policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a candidate for a political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have liberal candidates regardless of party affiliation. Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency), then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. With these increased movements around the world, the lack of communication creates many consequences. Without a language in common the attempt at communication is a difficult process. The Lithuanian family do not have the language skills required for their new life in America and everyday life is a struggle. The problems that rise from a lack of communication lead to a path of destruction for the family. Authors can fix the reader s attention to specific details they want to emphasize through the point of view in the story. In both texts, different points of views are used to highlight the serious outcomes of language barriers. Sinclair uses 3rd person omniscient point of view throughout the story and focuses on Jurgis experiences and actions. Using an omniscient point of view allows Sinclair to explain to the reader the outcome of certain actions before the characters experience them. As the family first experiences the setting of their new life, the narration is used to show their lack of knowledge: They were not sure that it was unpleasant, this odor; some might have called it sickening, but their taste in odors was not developed (Sinclair 2) . The narration hints towards a future filled with unhappiness, it foreshadows devastation from a lack of knowledge about the new environment. From the narration the reader knows the future of the family but the characters themselves are not aware: Elzbieta, alas, did not read the papers, and no one had told her; but perhaps it was as well, for just then they would not have had the carfare to spare to go every day to wait upon the surgeon, nor for that matter anybody with the time to take the child (Sinclair 13). From this point of view, nationalism and the politics of ethnic cleansing represent the dark side of democracy (Bernard Yack, 2003) . National identity becomes horribly wrong, especially in multinational societies, when people sometimes rank identities hierarchically, leading to the rejection of another nation as inferior. The modernist theories imply that until the beginning of the 19th century, almost no one had more than local loyalties. National identity and unity were originally imposed from above, by European states, because they were necessary to modernize the economy and society. In this theory, nationalist conflicts are an unintended side effect. For state theorists, pervasive loyalty or devotion to the polity is purposefully encouraged through the allocation of services and privileges, with the state adjudicating disputes to bolster unity (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Ernest Gellner, a philosopher and social anthropologist, argued that nations are a by product of industrialization. Democracies are based on the citizen s ability to judge things such as laws, propositions, bonds, budgets, representatives, and candidates. The type of democracy helps determine what the citizens are judging. In a direct democracy citizens would be judging the candidates and issues themselves and in a representative democracy, the citizens are judging the representatives and their ability to stay true to the citizens wants and needs. The founding fathers were so sure in their decision to make a representative democracy that they deliberately made ratifying the constitution very difficult. Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises By Jake Barnes The San Fermin Festival is a central point to The Sun Also Rises because it is where the climax is reached in determining the maturation of Jake Barnes. The San Fermin Festival takes part every year in Pamplona, Spain and consists of parties and bullfighting for a week. T. Peter Hays article, Hunting Ritual in The Sun Also Rises, shows Hays belief The Sun Also Rises, and the San Fermin Festival in the book, shows religious virtues instilled in the character of Jake Barnes. Although the San Fermin Festival was originally a religious event, it has now become paganized like many other festivals or holidays. The effect the war has had on Jake Barnes and other characters caused them to reject religion; therefore, the purpose of The Sun Also Rises is not meant to parallel the Catholic Church or exhibit religious virtues. World War I was the first time the world witnessed the abhorrent crimes man is capable of. Jake Barnes witnessed these events while he was in the war. Not much is said about specific atrocities Jake witnessed, but this silence was not uncommon amongst veterans. It is Count Mippipopolous who sheds light upon war experience. My dear, I am sure Mr. Barnes has seen a lot. Don t think I don t think so, sir. I have seen a lot, too (Hemingway, 1926, p. 60). When the Count says this, it shows that Jake also must have witnessed much in the war. Jake is very closed off while talking about his war experience because of the inhumane things man committed in the war. The war caused many to reject religious philosophies because people could not believe a just God would allow man to behave so cruelly to one another. Jake could not cope with what the war did to men, especially himself. Jake s wound left him impotent and took away his ability to have an intimate relationship with a woman. Jake claims to be a Catholic, but after all that has happened to him, and all that he has seen, he cannot believe with Catholicism like those around him.
