Small Group Counseling Title: Bullying Grade Levels: 9 – 12
Small Group Counseling Description: (What will be the purpose and focus of this group?)
The purpose of this focus group is for student to understand what bullying is and how to stop
and prevent bullying and cyber-bullying in theirschools and neighborhoods and how it affects
those who are the victims.
Number of Group Sessions: 6
Session #1: (title): Bullying – What is It?
Description: (Specific purpose of this particulargroup session)
Three Words (Ice Breaker) Page 6
You tell the group to think of three words to describe themselves. You give everyone
2 minutes to think. Once you've given them time, the introductions will go around the
room and the people will introduce themselves and say the three words they chose. I
would say something like, "I am Jimmy Stark. I'm 17. I'd describe myself as fun,
happy, and outgoing." (15-20 minutes)

Session #2: (Title): No Place for Bullies
Description: (Specific purpose of this particulargroup session)
The purpose of this group session is for student to reflect on bullying scenarios, the definition
of bullying and to learn the effects that bullying and cyber-bullying has on their school and
environment. Also students will learn techniques to stop and prevent bullying from
happening.

6. Answer questions
7. Anonymously share answers with the class
8. Answer discussion questions
9. Share with the group
10. Wrap-up

Description: (Specific purpose of this particulargroup session)
The purpose of this group session is for students to know and understand how they can
identify types of bullying, how torespond tobullying as an individual, how torespond as a
bystander and how to commit toa bully free environment.

online and cell phone use.

Session #5: (Title): Get ready for National Bullying Prevention Month
Description: (Specific purpose of this particulargroup session)
National Bullying Prevention Month was created by PACER in 2006 with a one week event has
now evolved into a month long effort that encourages everyone to take an active role in the
bullying prevention movement. Efforts are focused on encouraging both personal and
community responsibilities to prevent bullying. Communities are encouraged toaddress the
problem of bullying through media, classroom activities, workshops, and otherspecial events.
In our case we will address it within the group and the school.

1. Go over confidentiality within the group
2. Talk about the poster contest
3. Divide students in three groups
4. Each group create poster representing the role of the bully, the victim and bystander
to share with other students
5. Advertise a poster making contest
6. Ask students to create posters that illustrate way each student in the school can help
stop bullying and make the school environment safer
7. Be creative and colorful with posters
8. Teachers and other staff will help judge the posters
9. Include winning poster in the newsletteror website
Session #6: (Title): ‘A Troubling Trend’: Discussing Bullying and Antigay Attitudes
Description: (Specific purpose of this particulargroup session)
The purpose of this last group session is to allow the students to see a sad and serious part of
bullying and cyber-bullying. In this lesson, students examine and discuss responses to the
recent suicide that have occurred amid antigay bullying and complete an optional campaign
to foster safety and acceptance at their own school.

6. Ask listed questions and go over them
7. Go over suicide statements that are listed with students
8. Explain “fishbowl format”
9. Number off students 1-5 and start activity
10. Read statement and ask questions
11. Ask game closing questions
12. Watch videos on YouTube
