4. Bratislava
 At the centre of Europe, Bratislava lies at the southwestern edge of
Slovakia, a few minutes drive from Austria and Hungary. On both banks of
the Danube River, and close to the Carpatian mountains, Bratislava is the
largest city in Slovakia and its capital, population 450,000.

5. Tatra Mountains
 The Tatra Mountains, Tatras or Tatra, are a mountain
range that form a natural border between Slovakia and
Poland. They are the highest mountain range in the
Carpathian Mountains.
 The Tatra Mountains occupy an area of 785 km2.
77.7% of it lie within Slovakia and 22.3% on the
territory of Poland. The highest peak, called
Gerlach, at 2,655 m is located north of Poprad,
entirely in Slovakia.
The Tatras are protected by law by the establishment of the Tatra National Park, Slovakia and the Tatra National
Park, Poland, which are jointly entered in UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

6. Tvrdošín
 Tvrdošín is a town in central Slovakia. The town is located at the
confluence of the Orava and Oravica rivers, 12 km from the Polish
borders.
 The town was mentioned in the Zobor documents in 1111 and in the
document of Béla III of Hungary in 1183. It received royal free town
privileges in 1369.
 The population of the town is about 9 337.

7. What to see in Tvrdošín?
Wooden church
 The wooden church is the most
significant and the oldest cultural sight
in Tvrdosin. It was build in the Gothic
style in the mid of the 15th century. This
church is the valuable sight for the altar
with a picture with all the apostles. In
2008, along with seven wooden
churches of the Slovak part of
Carpathian Mountain Area, it was
included on the UNESCO Word Heritage
List.

8. Orava castle
 Orava castle – it is situated about 27km from
Tvrdošín in the village Oravsky Podzamok and
112 meters over the sea level. It came into
existence in 13th century and the first written
record of the castle goes to the year 1267
when it was royal possession. In 1800, the
castle burnt out and was destroyed very hard.
The last and the most significant
reconstruction of the castle were in the years
1953-1968. The interior of building is from the
time of Gothic, Renaissance, and romanticism.
