Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, and Poland. The capital and largest city is Bratislava, located on the Danube River near the borders with Austria and Hungary. Slovak culture is reflected in folk traditions such as music, dance, and architecture. Popular tourist destinations include Bratislava, the High Tatras Mountains, medieval castles, and caves. Outdoor activities like hiking and winter sports are common pastimes.

3. Slovakia- Slovensko
Slovakia: is a country in Central Europe .
It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west,
Poland to the north, the Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south.
Slovakia's territory spans about 49,000 km² and is mostly mountainous.
The official language is Slovak, a member of the Slavic language family.

4. Bratislava
• Bratislava formerly:Presburg; is the capital of Slovakia with
a population of about 450,000, the country's largest city.
Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia on both banks of the River
Danube and the left bank of the River Morava.
Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that
borders two independent countries.

5. Folk traditions
Folk traditions have rooted strongly in Slovakia and are reflected
in literature, music, dance and architecture. The example is the
Slovak national anthem which is based on a melody of a folk song.

(Slovak equivalent of Robin Hood).
The legend says Juraj Jánošík

8. Slovak specialties
• The traditional Slovak meals are Bryndzové halušky and other
meals with potato dough and bryndza. Bryndza is salty cheese made
of sheep milk, characterized by strong taste and aroma.
It is on the menu of each traditional Slovak restaurant.
• A typical soup is sauerkrat soup ("kapustnica").

9. Tourism
Slovakia has many mountains, caves,
medieval castles and towns, folk architecture, spas
and ski resorts. More than 1.6 million people visited
Slovakia in 2006, and the most attractive destinations
are the capital of Bratislava and the High Tatras.
