The skeletal system is composed of 206 bones that support the body. The skeletal system is divided into the axial skeleton which includes the skull, vertebral column, and rib cage, and the appendicular skeleton which includes the pectoral girdle, pelvic girdle, and appendages. There are three types of joints - synarthroses which allow little movement, amphiarthroses which allow slight movement, and diarthroses which allow free movement. The six types of diarthroses joints are ball-and-socket, condylar, saddle, pivot, hinge, and gliding joints, each allowing different ranges and types of motion.
