This document outlines six steps for ensuring quality exterior concrete: 1) proper subgrade preparation by compacting the soil and sloping away from structures; 2) proper slab design with control joints, thickness of at least 4 inches, and slope; 3) proper concrete mix design with specified ratios, slump, and aggregates; 4) proper placing and finishing within 90 minutes without excess moisture; 5) proper curing immediately after finishing using curing compounds; and 6) consumer sealing and aftercare including not using de-icers with fertilizers and resealing aged concrete.
