rubrics to model good writing with the short and extended responses. We went through each of
the features of the short response first and showed students different examples of student s
writing. They then had to grade the student according to if it deserved 2 points, 1 point, or 0
points. By doing this the students were able to see examples of good, fair, and bad responses. For
the short response students were able to learn that the most important feature of a short response

The genre samples for the proposal of a new grocery store near the MNSU campus will be
explained below. An email, brochure, questionnaire and a flowchart are among the genre examples

The first Genre Sample I chose, was to write an email to Eric Anderson, the mayor of the Mankato
City Council. I decided to write to Eric Anderson because I assumed he would be the best person to
contact about starting a proposal for a new grocery store near the Minnesota State University
Mankato campus. Eric Anderson could then give me some pointers on continuing this proposal
and what I should do next in being able to get this approved for construction. Within the email to
Eric Anderson, I stated the main purpose in writing this email to him. I proceeded to state the
reasoning why there is a need for a grocery store near the MNSU campus. Finally, I asked him for
any feedback on the proposal and that I looked forward to hearing back to him. At the end of the

have to work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who
created it on pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we
ve formed a relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect
shatters the illusion. We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and
imperfect as ourselves, but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was
pure love, joy and satisfaction. The art didn t do anything wrong to you. The art shouldn t be

As the result of economic issues, such as the the Tariffs of Abominations in 1828 and the
Nullification Crisis in 1832, it becomes apparent that Jackson did what he thought was best for the
country. At the beginning of his presidency, Congress passed a protective tariff, the Tariff of 1828,
that put taxes on import goods, such as iron and wool. The tariffs were designed to protect the
infant industries in the Northern states from British goods driving them out of business. Although
it seemed like a good idea, this tariff only benefitted the North. The southerners (especially South
Carolina) were enraged since they relied heavily on those imports. Not only that, it was harmful to

The choice was made and South Carolina s legislature established the Ordinance of Nullification,
which announce the Tariffs of 1828 and 1832 unconstitutional, and thereby ineffective and void.
The doctrine professed that if a state found a federal law illegitimate and detrimental to its
absolute interests, it would have the power to abolish that law within its borders. Southerners saw
it as a protection against federal intrusion on their rights and threatened to separate if the federal
government pursued to collect the tariff duties. Upon hearing this, Jackson became infuriated and
acted quickly. He pushed Congress to pass the Force Bill, which gave Jackson the authority to use
military force to collect the tariff when needed. It was an attempt to force South Carolina to
comply with the Tariff although it didn t succeed. An armed encounter was averted when Henry
Clay proposed a compromised which gradually lowered the tax rates over the next ten years,
