The Roles and Influences of Media on Crime
In the political world, media has both a positive and negative affect. Americans as a whole are
engrossed with crime whether it be a fictional representation on a person s favorite television show,
or a true story the nightly news. The entertainment media influences our lives in consciously and
subconsciously, day in and day out, playing a critical and constantly cultivating role in the criminal
justicesystem and the conduct of politics.
How exactly does one determine what media is? According to your standard Google search on the
definition of the term, media is, the main means of mass communication (esp. television, radio,
newspapers, and the Internet) regarded collectively. Broken down, this ultimately means that any
means by which information is spread can be considered media. Even from the founding of the
United States, freedom and active accessibility of press and media has taken a serious part in
American politics. It would be difficult to imagine politics with out the accompaniment or presence
of the media. The availability of political information through media resources has changed over
time with the advancement of technology and overall globalization of our modern world.
FUNCTIONS
Mass media is not only built on entertainment value alone, but it also has political importance. By
the time the average high school student has graduated, they have spent more time in front of the
television than in a classroom, and in that classroom time, often the information that

Pros And Cons Of Owning Exotic Animals
Bob just bought a new tiger for $8,000. He was mauled the next day. Owning exotic animals is a
horrendous idea all around. For one, they are ridiculously expensive going for around $8,000.
Exotic animals are extremely dangerous and if let loose, will wreak havoc. To add more fuel to
this fire of an argument , give me reasons why you should own exotic animals. Exotic animals are
expensive to absurd level. On page 223 in the editorial, Wild animals aren t pets, For $8,000 a baby
white tiger can be yours. Suddenly, when the tiger grows and eventually kills you, you ll be broke
and dead! Think on that; you saved up at least 8,000 dollars only to be eaten by your pet. The text
even goes on to say how owning a wild animal could be so tragic.

Critical Incident
INTRODUCTION
The reason for this essay is to reflect on a critical incident that took place during my three week
placement as a student nurse at Foster ward in Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. The incident chosen is
on language barrier in communication. This incident has made an impact on me due to the fact that
effective communication is key to patient health outcomes and language has influence on effective
communication. . There are various reflective models written by various theorists and they include:
Atkins and Murphy (1993)
Stephen (1993)
Johns (1988)
Gibbs (1988)
For this critical incident the model I have chosen to use is Gibbs (1988) reflective model as a guide
because it is more understandable and will reflects more clearly on ... Show more content on

He was always aggressive and talking to himself. One morning whiles on duty. I saw him
removing the bandage on the cellulites wound. I went to him and made a sign that he should
not remove it. He shouted at me in French. Though I did not understand him I guessed he was
saying I should leave him alone to do his own thing. I left him and called one of my friends who
understand French to explain these words in French if you remove the bandage, it will not help
the wound to heal on time . The Friend explained it to me and when a spoke the French, he (Mr.
M.B) was happy. Though he had already removed the bandage from the wound, he allowed me to
apply a new dressing on the wound. Since that time he became my friend and was always
speaking to me in French thinking I understood him. I was dressing his wound every morning. The
wound was almost healed when I was leaving the ward. In the next section, i will discuss the
feelings i experienced during this situation. FEELINGS I was very happy when I went home that
day because this patient has been on the ward for two weeks and according to the staff. He does not
understand any Ghanaian language. Although he understand little English, that is not enough to
help him communicate effectively on the ward. He does not heed to instructions. And if I have
been able to make him obey my instructions, then it s commendable. On the other hand i felt sorry

Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and
solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to
the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also
provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of
installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a
solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty
thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax
credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity
cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system
requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills
when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the
requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan.
Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will
be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount.
Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by
the cost savings from not paying for utility

Ecosystems
Question: What management strategies have been implemented in response to the resilience and
vulnerability of a selected ecosystem? The Mojave Desert is a world famous desert that occupies a
significant amount of California and smaller parts in surrounding states. Covering thousands of
square kilometers, the ecosystems can range from 100 meters below sea level up to 2000 meters
above sea level. The biophysical interactions within these ecosystems such as earth movements, soil
formation, weather and climate lead to very diverse environments, along with the many biotic
factors. With the rapidly increasing impacts of human uses, pollution and urban sprawl the Mojave

This animal thrives as it is highly adaptable, therefore it is perfect for the harshness of the Mojave
Desert. Mojave Food Chain
The Plants of the Desert The brittle bush is a bush that grows across most of the Mojave Desert
and from March to June it thrives turning the desert yellow. Growing to around п¬Ѓve foot these
plants are suited to this environment as they have a matt of short hairs that cover all the leaves.
These hairs act as an insulating layer against hot and cold, and they also trap moisture. Common
saltbush is a grayish white shrub that grows to be around a meter tall. They are not a pretty
plant, but are well adapted to living in dry, alkaline environments. It has scales on the leaves to
conserve water, although it doesn t like to hold large amounts of water. Also in droughts it has
the ability to drop all leaves and see the drought through. The Joshua Tree mainly grows in the
Joshua Tree National Park and is only found in the Mojave Desert. With a life span of 200 years,
and a maximum height of just over 12 meters this tree also has 2 root systems. One root systems
buries deep and stores water in large bulbs up to 10 meters underground. The other root system is
shallow and gathers nutrients. The spiny leaf system is turned up wards in order to catch any
moisture in the air. Abiotic Factors Abiotic factors are the non living chemical and physical factors

Reducing the Carbon Footprint
The 7th principle of green chemistry states A raw material or feedstock should be renewable rather
than depleting whenever technically and economically viable. 1 This means making use of easily
available, cheap, and non exhaustive resources like biomass consisting of plant or animal feedstock
and/or carbon dioxideto make platform chemicals and commercially viable products instead of
our conventional non renewable resources like fossil fuels, natural gas, and oil. The rising fuel
and energy demands of an ever growing world population in the last two decades have resulted in
rapid depletion of these non renewable resources. These circumstances have forced us to look at
other possible sources to sustain the chemical, fuel and energy requirements of a growing and
developing planet. Renewable feedstocks can be the answer to this. However the major challenge
/test in this is to develop platform chemicals and materials with pathways employing low energy
consumption processes and which would be less toxic. Another important factor is to have a
process in which the amount of carbon that is incorporated into the system is higher than the
amount that goes out to the environment. This difference is referred to as the carbon footprint and
if positive can help reduce global warming.1 So if these processes used in making new platform
chemicals and materials along with the final chemicals themselves, can contribute to a positive
carbon foot print along with less toxic and harmful effects

The World s First Nuclear Weapon
The creation of the nuclear weapons has caused major concern towards national security worldwide
since the 1940 s when the US sets up the Manhattan Project to develop the first nuclear weapon.
After the weapons were created we find that more then five nations and counting have been
developing their own weapons besides our very own USA. These other nations include but not
limited to Russia, United Kingdom, France, India, China, North Korea, Pakistan and Israel.
Throughout this paper we are going to take a look at the history of nuclear weapons, mechanical
make up, magnitude of destruction, how many nuclear weaponeach country has and the future of a
possible nuclear war.

Not only that tens of thousands later died of radiation exposure. Under the pressure of being out
numbered Japan agreed to an unconditional surrender on August 14, 1945. This resulted as the end
of World War II. In years after the massive attacks, the United States, Soviet Union and Great
Britain conducted several nuclear weapons tests. In 1954, President of India called for a ban on
nuclear testing. It was the first big scale initiative to ban using nuclear technology for mass
destruction.
The United States, Soviet Union and some sixty other countries signed a treaty to seek the ends
of the nuclear arms race and promote disarmament on July 1, 1968. It purpose was to permits the
use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. In 1995 The United Nations, on December 12 decreed
an immediate ban on all nuclear testing and urged disarmament with the vision of a world free of
nuclear weapons. The United States is the only known country to have mussels with range to attack
any target on earth. They aren t alone over thirty countries have unmanned planes that are
undetected by missile defense systems, and can carry nuclear, biological or other weapons of mass
destruction.
Other reasons that can fuel the usage of weapons of mass destruction are belief in religion. In the
Middle East, Iran may be one of the most dangerous places to receive nuclear weapons, but luckily
no one from Western civilization supplies these armies with such technology. This

Short Essay On Indiana Myotis
The Indiana myotis has a similar appearance to others of its genus. Body size is generally small,
and measures no more than 49.0mm, with weight ranging from 6 8 g. Weight measurements
fluxuate in winter due to hibernation preparation and are responsible for slight sexual dimorphism
with males averaging 7.1 g and females averaging 7.45 g (Thomson, 1982). Tail length is generally
80% of the head and body length with terminal vertebra and half of the penultimate vertebra
projecting free of the interfemoral membrane (Thomson, 1982). Wingspread ranges from 240 to 367
mm, and forearm length measures 36.0 to 40.6mm with female forearms being slightly longer. Ear
length ranges from 10 14 mm and the blunt tragus measures less than 5 (Thomson, 1982).
Furthermore, feet are generally small when compared to others of this genus.

sodalis is nocturnal and crepuscular and forage over a wide area during the summer months.
Echolocation is used to migrate habitat and acquire food. Indiana myotis feed exclusively on
terrestrial and aquatic flying insects. The most common prey items include, Lepidoptera,
Coleoptera, and Diptera (Whitaker, 2004). Selection of prey depends largely on availability in the
foraging habitat with diet varying seasonally. Other arthropod groups which are consumed in
limited quantities include Neuroptera, Araneae, Plecoptera, Ephemeroptera, Acar, and Phthiraptera
(Kiser, J. D Elliott, 1996).
Indiana myotis typically spend winter months in limestone caves or mines with very specific
conditions. Indiana myotis are generally loyal to specific hibernacula or to the general area near
hibernacula that they have occupied previously. Documented hibernacula are an average of 858 m
in length, with ceilings approximately 4.5 m high, with large entrances averaging 9.7 m in
diameter. Furthermore, preference is shown to hibernacula with multiple entrances promoting

Deforestation In Australia
Deforestation in Australia
What is the issue?
Australia is among one of the wealthiest nations. It has a small population of almost 24million but
has a high rate of extensive deforestation and degradation since the later 18th century during
European settlement. Most of Australia, around 7.6million km2,is covered in dry desert
unsuitable for forest growth, but the thriving coastal and hills areas have seen decline in forest
cover and quality over the last 60 years, especially between 1999 and 200 where an average of
325,900 hectares were being wiped out each year. Once European colonists began to expand in the
late 18th and early 19th centuries, deforestation and clearance occurred widely along the most
fertile soils near the coast. Due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

partnership and a month later Climate Change Minister announced $3 million to help reduce
greenhouse gases emitted from deforestation.
How has science helped?
Through science, we have been able to see the damage that is being done through a series of
different tests including testing the soil quality and water salinity levels. It has helped us monitor
these levels over a number of years. Satellite readings have helped view the land that has been
disturbed and see which areas have been affected by it, they also show weather readings and are
able to give required information for whether the area is suitable for replantation.

Examples Of Light And Darkness In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 45, Ray Bradbury uses the motifs of light and darkness to develop characters and
demonstrate that knowledge and ignorance impact the wellbeing of society . The motifs of light
and darkness show the crucial effects of knowledge and ignorance on society; knowledge brings
happiness and meaning that ignorance hinders. Demonstrating the effects of knowledge, Clarisse
and her family, as nonconformist of their society, are intellectual as a result of their exposure to
books. Unlike the overwhelming majority of the society, Clarisse and her family are able to
withhold a conversation that goes beyond most people s field of interest. Montag witnesses this
early in the morning after Millie overdoses on pills, and he hears... Show more content on

Montag witnesses the amiable effects of knowledge on Clarisse when he first meets her and
becomes exposed to her powerful curiosity and intellect. During this encounter, Montag observes
that her face was [a] fragile milk crystal with a soft constant light in [...] the strangely comfortable
and rare and gently flattering light of the candle, (Bradbury 5). The light used to describe Clarisse
symbolizes her wisdom that she uses to entice Montag. As a result, she is described in pleasurable
way, connoted through Bradbury s use of the words soft, comfortable, and gently flattering. This
shows that Clarisse s intellect develops her character as delightful throughout the novel. Unlike
Clarisse, other figures in the novel are portrayed through the motif of darkness. The firemen, as
conformist, burn books in their society to maintain equality. After his final encounter with Clarisse,
Montag observes the firemen in the firehouse as they lit their eternally burning black pipes. They
and their charcoal hair and soot colored brows and bluish ash smeared cheeks, (Bradbury 30). The
firemen burn books, the essence of knowledge, thus they are responsible for the widespread
establishment of ignorance in their society. As a result, the firemen are described with dark features
through the words charcoal, ash, and soot. The connotation of these dark adjectives contributes to
the characterization of the firemen as destructive, representing their ruination of society. Therefore,
the motifs of light and dark contribute to the characterization of Clarisse and the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Depression
Although older adults are at increased risk of depression, it is not a normal part of aging
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015; Mental Health Association, 2016).
Depression is among the leading causes of disability in the general adult population, ages 18
years and above (US Preventative Services Taskforce [USPST], 2016). The US Preventative
Services Taskforce recommends that all adult patients be screened for depression (USPST, 2016).
Approximately 6% of older adults, ages 65 and older, have some form of depression (Mental Health
Association, 2016). The risk of depression doubles after age 80 (Federal Interagency Forum on
Aging Related Statistics, 2012; Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
[SAMHSA], 2011). According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
(2011), among older adults, women are more likely to be diagnosed with depression; the
prevalence of dysthymia and minor depression in older adults is often under diagnosed; and lower
treatment rates are seen among ethnic minorities when compared to whites (SAMHSA, 2011).

Chinese Culture Of Hong Kong
From the historical aspect, the society of Hong Kong inherited characteristic from the British
colonial era but still the influence of China is heavy. Hong Kong has a closely connection with
mainland China due to geographical proximity and 95% Chinese immigrants with of its population
help to maintain the identity among Chinese in Hong Kong, despite they tend to blend of both
oriental and Western elements(Tsu, 2014).
Although the British colonial government in Hong Kong did not have any intention to fade
Chinese identity, the colonial education system did not cover much about contemporary China(Luk,
1991) .
Due to the gap in ideological and material conditions between Hong Kong and mainland China, the
perception on identity and issues of nationalism/patriotism between many Hong Kong s Chinese
people and the Chinese government are different (Tsu, 2014).
Conflict in Social system
Apart from that, a far more mature and sophisticated social system create Hong Kong s civil
society, therefore when related to ideological conflict with real damage, Hong Kong performance
its significant difference between the mainland China and therefore its opposition and response to
the social unrest after Hong Kong 1967 Left wing riots (Ye, 2015).

Is Religion Good Or Harm Essay
Religion is and always has been a central pillar of society, However this does not mean it is a
force for good in the world. Richard Dawkins identifies religion as being viral and harmful, much
like a disease. He is correct as Religion has infected more people than any other thought or disease
and has killed millions of people, oppressed a variety of groups for centuries, and stunted societal
growth on multiple occasions. Some people may disagree and claim that religionbrings about many
great qualities in people, which is not incorrect. However it has brought about far more harm than
good over the course of history.
As of 2010, Pew Research estimates there to be 2.2 billion Christians[1] and 1.6 billion
Muslims[2]. These 2 groups comprise almost half of the world s population and that is not even
considering the hundreds of other faiths that are still practiced today. Pew also estimates that there
are only about 1.1 billion people who are not affiliated with any faith[3], but some of these people
still hold basic religious beliefs and are just not associated with a specific religion. In other words,

avoid difficult questions in life also prevents people from bettering themselves as people and
learning to actually cope with existential issues. Additionally, religion only builds communities
within a certain faith, and it pushes away those in other faiths. There is constant conflict between
faiths and this can lead to splits between people of different

How Statistics Is Important For The Quality Of Data
Statistics is well defined as a division of mathematics and is most often used to explain, analyze,
and summarize as well as interpret what we perceive in order to make sense or meaning of our
interpretations. Every day we encounter statistics that originate from various forms and behaviors.
Which means that to in order for all of the information gathered to make sense, there would
realistically be no need for the use of statistics. Conversely, due to its focus and pragmatic on
applications, statistics is characteristically considered a distinctive mathematical science rather
than a division of mathematics (Chance et al, 2005). Therefore, some measures a statistician
utilizes are less mathematical; for example, ensuring data collection is conceded in a manner that
yields valid conclusions, recording results, or coding data in behaviors understandable to the
users. Statistics has been recognized to improve the quality of data by forming specific survey
samples and experiment strategies. It also offers tools used to forecast the use of data as well as
statistical models. It is appropriate in many academic arenas that consist of business, social and
natural sciences, and government, to list a few.
Descriptive statistics are wholly used to define the sample under study; they are used essentially to
describe the fundamental characteristics of a prearranged data. Descriptive statistics offer modest
summaries concerning the measures as well as the samples. When applied in

Causes Of The Great Purge In Russia
The collectivization efforts of 1928 came to a head with the central government essentially
forcing peasants to collectivize and attacking the kulaks. Initial efforts backfired with many
peasants choosing to slaughter their animals rather than give them to the collective farm. As for
the kulaks, some fled to the cities to find work while others decided to try and fight back. In
retaliation, the OGPU (secret police) acted quickly and arrested the troublemakers. Massive
numbers were deported across the country and into the Urals, Siberia, or the North. The intense
crackdown was eventually a success. By 1932, the per cent of collectivized peasant farms had
reached 62% according to official Soviet figures (Fitzpatrick, 138). The path to collectivized
farming in this time period is heavily significant for a number of reasons, namely the social

It had roots in the repression of the kulaks and the Shakhty Trials, but branched out to attack
political opponents to Stalin within the Bolshevik cadre. A series of trials occurred in Moscow, the
accused were charged with conspiring to assassinate Stalin and other Bolshevik leaders. What
makes these trials so significant is that they showed the lengths that Stalin and his compatriots
would go to ensure their personal safety. All of the accused were found guilty of conspiring with
the fascists and Leon Trotsky (at this point in exile) to bring down the socialist state, and bring a
return of capitalism. As many Western historians have noted, these trials were far from fair. They

all of the accused without any fair judicial proceedings (Fitzpatrick,

The objective of this study was to record a quantitative approximation of how many bacteria are
present within various samples of meat products. The bacterial content of each meat sample is vital
information in regards to improvements within the meat processing industry, and gives reason for
changing or sustaining current feeding and processing conditions. Understanding which methods
taken in processing meat that is sold to the public is a matter of public health, as obtaining and

RESULTS.
Among the analyzed spread plates, samples from meat source A appeared to have the highest
numbers of colonies, while each enumeration held a direct relationship with the dilution number,
steadily decreasing in value as predicted, but averaging at a calculated quantity of 1.47E+07
bacteria (Table 1). Samples from meat source B showed similar trends. Samples from meat
sources C and D did not provide statistically significant results, and thus provided inconclusive
data; each of these spread plates had a recorded sample average of 0.00E+00 to represent this
(Chart 1). The pour plates had dynamic results, the most interesting of which arose from source
A2; this pour plate at a concentration of 1.00E 03 grew colonies that were too numerous to
count, then decreased to 77 colonies at the next dilution level of 1.00E 04, but increased again at
the following dilution of 1.00E 05 (Table 1). Source A3 was similarly dynamic at dilution levels
1.00E 03 and 1.00E 04, with colony counts recorded at 188 and 268, respectively, and then falling
to levels that were not statistically significant (Table 2). This data contradicts the predicted trend;
however, all other recorded data followed the ideal trend.

Conwell s Acres Of Diamonds
Conwell begins his speech speaking of how many men make the same mistake when it comes to
attaining wealth. Conwell gives many stories and examples of which this has happened. He
believes that this universal mistake is not investigating into the surrounding society. For instance, a
man creating a business within a society in which there are already many businesses in that area
that sell the same thing. Whereas, a man that can understand the needs of a society and create a
business accordingly can generate a lot more wealth. In reference to the acres of diamonds he is
suggested there are immense amount of chances to become prosper but you just have to know how.

Whereas, Conwell stresses the idea that wealth is everywhere and there is a vast amount of it,
however, who attains it lays in knowledge and opportunity. The differing perspectives are due to
their contrasting priorities of life and life motives. Kuyper extenuates that his priority is his
faith. Because of his beliefs, his view on poverty is shaped by it. All of his ideals in The
Problem of Poverty is defending with a Christian perspective and Biblical references. His motive
in life is to fulfill the calling of a Christian, and he believes one of these callings is to help others,
such as those who live in poverty. Conwell s priorities differ greatly influencing his theories on
the subject matter of wealth and poverty. He prioritizes hard work and knowledge compared to
religion. Since his morals are based on these, he believes poverty is self conflicted or the doing
of someone rather than circumstance. Poverty in his eyes is easily solved in his eyes with
knowledge. Alternatively, to Kuyper s idea of overcoming poverty with the help of others, Conwell
is an individualistic issue and can be solved by the individual themselves. This is attainable through
knowledge and taking opportunities presented. Kuyper stresses the value of money and the power

A Research Study On Water Heating
Water heating accounts for (20 30%) share out of total residential electricity consumption in urban
areas. Economical and financial factors are the most important barriers followed by market
availability for penetration of solar water heater [5]. A study has been conducted to find out
determining factors behind adoption of various solar energytechnologies: solar photovoltaic and
solar thermal options, collecting data from 296 respondents from Chennai. It has been found
that scarcity for electricity and carbon free operation are two most dominating motivating
factors. A single point estimation of economic viability showed that it is feasible for Chennai
[6]. The life cycle cost and payback period assessment has been done taking three cities in united
states ( Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago),two auxiliary systems (natural gas and electricity)
and two types of solar collector (flat plate and evacuated tube). It varies from 4 to 13 years for
different configurations [7]. Economic study has been conducted to calculate electrical energy
savings, payback period and cost of unit electricity saved. The domain of this study was: three
locations (Pune, Mumbai and Chennai) and two solar water heaters with capacity (250lpd and

destructive power of tornadoes. It will also touch on some of the safety precaution involved in a
tornado from sirens to getting to safety. So what does cause a tornado and the effect they have?
WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE

WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE
First the public is taught to recognize the environmental clues such as dark, often greenish sky,
wall clouds, large hail, and loud roaring sound like a train. The National Weather Service
broadcasts watches and warnings for tornadoes as well as for thunderstorms. The civil defense
sirens are sounded at night in conjuction with the warnings when everyone is asleep because they
may not aware of the watches or warnings, if the town has them.
Some other effects of these monsters are that people loose their houses and properties and for some
without insurance it is total devastation. There are many effects due to tornadoes and way too
many to go into on this short paper.
WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE
CONCLUSION
The effects of tornadoes are slight to major destruction and the cost can be very high up to the
loss of life. Prepare yourself, have a plan to escape to safety. If you are in a tornado prone area
then you might want to get a weather radio that has a siren to warn of impending activity.

The Ocean s Future is in Trouble
The oceans are in trouble. The animals and plants are in danger of being killed. People are also
being harmed by toxins in the water. Why is this happening? The ocean is full of trash and other
forms of pollution from humans like noise pollution. The ocean is not a garbage can, people!
People are creating too much trash and a lot of it is ending up in the oceans. What can be done
about this? People could create less garbage. The environment could be helped by taking simple
steps like bring your own bags to the grocery store or carry a reusable water bottle. These simple
steps will help stop so much garbage going into the ocean. Pollutionis killing the life in the water,

animals in many ways. They could eat it or get stuck in it etc. Beaches and oceans worldwide are
filled with trash.
A lot of people are worrying about the world s oceans these days. In 2000, Congress passed the
landmark Oceans Act, an act that establish a commission of experts to assess threats to marine life
and resources and develop recommendations for a new comprehensive ocean policy.
Activists are angry at the White House s rejection of its own commission s proposal to take $4
billion out of federal offshore oil and gas money to fund an oceans trust fund.
Every year the Ocean Conservancy organizes an international coastal cleanup where over 500,000
volunteers pick up millions of tons of trash. Every piece of trash hurts the ocean and the animals
and plants.
Coastlines are popular tourists attraction. The more people there are, the more trash there is. Avoid
single use water bottles, coffee mugs and grocery bags.
Cargo ships sometimes spill garbage, and some of it floats out to sea from the shore. 80% of the
trash that ends up in the ocean comes from the shore.

Hope By Emily Dickinson Rhetorical Devices
Hope is the thing with feathers
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all
And sweetest in the Gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm
I ve heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest Sea
Yet never in Extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Hope abides; therefore I abide.
Countless frustrations have not cowed me.

The poem opens with the line Hope is the thing with feather. In this line, persona associated hope
and bird and made a metaphor. Then it follows like this, That perches in the soul/ And sings the
tune without words/ And never stops at all. In these lines, persona thinks that hope is like a
singing bird, even though sometimes it doesn t speak to us, eternally it will stay permanent in
us. Also by mentioning, hope as a permanent thing in inside of us, allows us to acquire most of
what life gives to us. The second stanza creates some kind of opposition for the hope, and in this
stanza persona metaphorically describe a person, who destroys his/her hope. By saying, And sore
must be the storm/That could abash the little bird/ That kept so many warm, persona used an
impressive metaphor by associating storm with anger and negativity. The storm abash the bird
(hope) and cause pain and discomfort hurts it. In the fourth stanza, with the following line which
is I ve heard it in the chilliest lands, persona tried to make her reader to believe in hope, she tried
to convince that hope is everywhere. In the last two lines, Yet never in extremity/ It asked a crumb
of me , persona mentioned that hope is a gift that doesn t exist for

Analysis Of The Book Harriet Jacobs
Harriet Jacobs, or Linda Brent in the book, was born in 1813 near Edenton, North Carolina as a
slave. She was blessed with, in her words, unusually fortunate circumstances(Jacobs, Pg.3) until
age six when her mother died. She stayed with her mistress, Margaret Horniblow, until she was
twelve years old where on her mistress s death she was willed to her mistress s niece and as a
result her new mistress s father, Dr. Flint. Unlike with her previous mistress, her life with the
Flints was harsh and demanding. She eventually escaped from her life with the Flint s and hid
herself away. She was free for a time but she was eventually bought once again, though with a
kinder owner who allowed her to write her book while working for her. Jacob s father was an
extremely talented carpenter whose skills allowed him many privileges similar to those of a
white man. He was allowed to work at his own trade as well as manage his own affairs with the
condition that he pay two hundred dollars a year to his mistress and supporting himself. He
wished to pay for his children with his earnings and tried many times, however, he was never
successful. She also had a brother that was two years younger than her that she adored. While she
loved both her father and younger brother, she had a special bond with her mother and maternal
grandmother. She had a loving, nurturing, and supportive relationship with the both of them. While
she knew she was a slave, she was shielded from the reality that she and

Keeping Students In High School
People argue about whether to keep students in school until they turn 18. However, contrary to
what people may think school should keep students until they are of 18. Since people with high
school diploma have more money, less chance of getting into jail or getting public assistance.
Without a high school diploma, the students earn less money. In a 2009 graph the average income
by education stated that high school dropouts make $19,540. Meanwhile someone that has
completed high school makes around $27,380. With this knowledge we can infer some things
such as, with the dropout they could barely afford a place to live and food. But with the high
school education that person can get a place to live, food, and start going to college or a university.

Mobile Devices Security
Mobile Devices Security The importance of mobile phones both to individuals and corporate
organizations can never be underestimated. These devices are put to different uses that would have
been almost impossible without them. Innovation is the order of the day when it comes to mobile
phones as designers seek to meet the different needs of customers in the market. Yet these devices
come with great risks particularly when it comes to corporate data that may be stored in them. The
range of security threats that face mobile phones is as a result of several vulnerabilities found
commonly in the devices. The vulnerabilities are partly the result of poor technical controls and
partly poor user security practices. Besides basic user requirements, other security challenges facing
companies with regard to the use of mobile phones include business to business spaces; business to
customer spaces and business to employees as these devices are different from the common desktop
classic environments. Relevant federal agencies and private companies have tried to take necessary
steps to promote security among the use of this devices which includes making certain control
applications available for users to utilize when they wish and disseminating information about
required mobile security behaviors (Metting, 2013). However, security control systems are not often
implemented consistently and it remains unclear whether mobile phone users even understand the

Donald Trump Persuasive Essay
When Donald Trump announced that he intended to run for president, no one took him
seriously; however, President Trump became the center of attention after a few short weeks.
While there are many people who believe Donald Trump will better our nation, there are just as
many who think he will destroy it because Hillary Clinton has more political experience.
However, experience is not always good experience. In March of 2015, the media came across
an email scandal. While Hillary Clinton served under President Obama as Secretary of State, she
used her family s private email server for official communications that violated major rules, and at
the same time allowed the Benghazi crisis to occur right under her nose. President Trump is also

For starters, Donald Trump wants us to move away from our traditional allies such as Saudi
Arabia. He also wants the United States to look towards new allies such as Russia and help
Syria to squash their civil war. The civil war in Syria has helped the Islamic State, or ISIS, grow
into that region due to the instability and lack of governmental control. The way he would do
this would be by increasing the budget on the military, a budget that was slashed by the previous
administration. Many other countries continue to strengthen their own military while ours has
been weakened for the past 8 years. This policy would help reduce the amount of global
terrorism. Along with this policy in the Middle East, Trump wants to redo the Iran Nuclear deal,
a deal which is very dangerous to the United States. Another part of Trump s foreign policy is to
renegotiate and even back out of old and new trade deals to better benefit the country. Trump s
knowledge in business would help make him an expert on different types of trade deals and would

It Doesn t Matter By Nicholas Carr
Nicholas G. Carr initiated a discussion about the strategic importance of IT spending of
companies in his Article IT Doesn t Matter published in Harward business review , 2003. He also

Nicholas Carr is not a broad view of the topic and Author has limited the scope of IT with mostly
hardware part and not discussed the various advantages a firm can gain with use of information
technology in a whole. Author suggests that business corporations should spend less on the IT
infrastructure by arguing that IT is no more a strategic advantage and is similar to other commodity
which is assessable to each and every one at market place. Author advices organizations to spend
less on the IT capital, to wait and learn from the mistake of competitors and also evaluate the risks
associated with the implementation of IT infrastructure. Author has provided the details of it
spending and financial outcome of the industry. Here we need to understand that financial out come

Reduce Noise Pollution
After a busy day, the last thing you want to hear when you arrive at your house is the outside
noise coming from traffic, construction, or nearby neighbors. There are many ways to keep the
distracting outside noises from entering your home. Hiring contractors to thickening drywall and
seal gaps will help soundproof the walls and ceilings in your home. Also, the installation of
carpeting and other soft materials can help mute noise from room to room. In addition, to quickly
create a more relaxing home environment, consider moving your television out of the main living

Public Relations Essay
Public Relations
Good public relations is key to the success of any business. A company must strive to make itself
stand out in its particular field. The media can be a very effective public relations tool if it is used

A twenty first century company is not only going to need the ability to please their customers, but
to delight them. In order to accomplish this goal, employees need to understand who the company

On one hand, communicators need to get their messages out. The media also needs news to report.
When communicators have a story that they want to get out, they want the media to give them as
much attention as possible. There is another side to this story though. The media reports on subjects
that are considered newsworthy. This includes stories that not only could be beneficial to business,
but they also report on subjects that put companies in a negative light. This is where the hate
relationship comes in. Negative publicity is the last thing that any company wants, and it causes
them to put up their defenses against the media.
Even though media can have a negative impact on a company, if it is used to its full advantage,
it can be a very effective way of getting publicity. Newspapers are always looking for people and
things to write about. Radio and television stations are always looking for people to interview
and things to talk about. These stories are free of charge, and are of greater value than a
commercial would be. People know that a commercial is paid for and designed under the
companies own perspective of itself. People are more likely to pay attention to what a newspaper
article, or a television interview gets across to them than a commercial. The reason for this is
because the information is coming from a source outside of the company, and is therefore more
trustworthy. This is not to

all sensory perceptions are unreliable, experiences are doubtful and reasoning is also distrusted.
Descartes then reviews his intentions of finding his Archimedean point a piece of indubitable

The Access Of Equity Finance Through Crowdfunding
From almost the beginning, the idea of community and local based Slow Money ideals being
served through crowdfunding was acknowledged here in Southern California. Our Slow Money
SoCal founding members were working against a conservative legal backdrop and a sprawling
suburbia that made local investing and the community building it entails all the more difficult. In
our early days, while we measured the idea of crowdfinancing still serving the Slow Money
Principles, we decided it was a legitimate sounding of our regional voice. Today, the access to
equity financethrough crowdfunding is just another opportunity to continue to serve ways to
catalyze capital while exploring the inherent tension between the virtual world and the visceral
character of a place based investing.
We were broached by Kiva, the grandfather to all technology based crowdfinancing in 2013. Slow
Money SoCal had worked without much success, for an approach to local investment during its
first year and was ready to consider another way. Still reticent about the rules and regulations that
served to inhibit a local investing story, we chose to sign on as an early Kiva Trustee hoping to get
our feet wet as we continued to develop our more down to earth, place based approach. We
endorsed our first Kiva loan in March 2014.
In those early days of Slow Money SoCal, though some of us were comforted by the Kiva
partnership and its legal sanctions, some thought the partnership was a distraction. If we were busy

Hester Prynne Analysis
D.H. Lawrence, an English novelist and literary critic, penned his essay On the Scarlet Letter as a
critique of the novel The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence argued that
Hester Prynne, the novel s protagonist, is not a victim, but rather is a sinful, corrupted character
acting in her own self interest. Lawrence was effective in portraying his analysis of Prynne by his

Prynne and put her on the scaffold and worship her there (Lawrence). This opposes Prynne s
sinful shame on the scaffold to the pure worship of the Virgin Mary. His purpose in satirizing the
two is achieved, as he creates a mockery of Prynne s misconduct.
Similar to Magdalene, Lawrence argued that Hawthorne s portrayal of Hester as a victim is
inherently flawed, and her scheming nature insists that her able nature be further questioned.
With this in mind, Lawrence compared Prynne to the biblical character of Abel (Lawrence). In
the book of Genesis, the Holy Bible explains that Cain murders his twin brother Abel out of a fit
of jealousy. Since Prynne takes on the role of Abel in his critical essay, Lawrence s tone deemed
the symbol of Cain to be the root cause of Prynne s sin. Like Abel, Prynne is viewed by society as
a victim, as thus has a reputation forever defined by these labels. This is seen most in The Scarlet
Letter as Prynne never completely escapes her identity as a sinful woman. Although Prynne lives on
in the conclusion of the novel while Dimmesdale died, her actions lead her in a permanent state of
separation from God. Furthermore, Lawrence s selection of choppy syntax communicates his
aggressive stance on Prynne. Through

International Trade of Developing Countries
International trade of developing countries is the classic weak vs. strong dichotomy, and
underdeveloped or developing countries cannot make it solely on their own efforts; the have nots
need help from the haves. Developed nations trumpet the claim that the answer to developing
nations international trade issues is untrammeled or open market activity as opposed to government
intervention by developed nations governments. This begs the question as to what extent the
governments of developed nations are or should be responsible for supporting developing countries
growth in international trading markets. Often the protectionist actions of developed nations
governments to enhance their own international trading activities are the very... Show more content

511):
Recent literature on international trade negotiation accords considerable attention to the ways in
which developing countries increasingly coalesce to effect gains for themselves in negotiation,
mostly with the developed world. This is both appropriate and important: from the Uruguay Round
to the Doha Round, coalitions have facilitated the gains (and, at times, the losses) made by the
weak against the strong. (Singh, 2006, p. 499).
Regional agreements and export import aid by developed nations to developing nations have
provided some relief through the U.S. Export Import Bank (Ex Im Bank), the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the
European Union/Common Market, among others (Carbaugh, 2013).
Import Substitution and Export led Growth
The two key approaches by developing nations to implement their own trade policies are import
substitution and export led growth. Import substitution strategy is inward oriented: trade and
industrial incentives favor the domestic market over the export market of developing nations, a
strategy utilized extensively in Latin America by Argentine, Brazil, and Mexico (Carbaugh, 2013,
p. 247). Advantages of this approach include:
Risks of developing the domestic industry to replace imports are low because the market already

Society s View On The Profession Of Journalism Essay
In many ways, it can be argued that through the use of film, society s view on the profession of
journalism can be reflected to be uncover and investigate stories that we ourselves dare not.
(McNair, B. 2010. Pg.12) By acting as our collective conscience, journalists can be portrayed
through film and television shows to act as a unifying source within our society; exposing our
shared beliefs, morals and ideas into the public eye. This can be seen through the All The President
s Men (1976), where the journalists are portrayed as investigative, daring, and strive to reveal the
truth through their courage and perseverance. However, journalists in filmcan also be represented in
a paradoxical way. In the film Nightcrawler (2014), the journalistin the film, Lou Bloom, is
portrayed to have little or no morals when it comes to the profession of journalism. He can be seen
to fabricate the truth or manipulate others in order to acquire a story that would have maximum
impact when shown on the television. The following essay will explore whether journalists in
films act as our collective conscience, going to places and doing things that we ourselves dare not,
and without courage we would, as societies, be very much worse off as the critic, McNair believes.
In the first instance, All The President s Men (1976) centres on a storyline of two reporters,
Woodward and Bernstein who work together to uncover and expose the American government
better known as the Watergate scandal.

Essay Robert Altmans Nashville
Nashville Essay
Robert Altman s movie Nashville is based on the political, social, and personal problems that our
country has to deal with. These problems are rooted in the battle between the need to create some
false image of success and the need for truth which is the struggle that exists in every character of
this film (except Jeff Goldbloom). To show this Robert Altman takes us through Nashville s
Country Music using political commentary, music and realistically portrayed dialogue to tell the
story.
Altman portrayed politics as sort of a parasite feeding off of the Nashville dream. He used
acousmatic sound in two ways to portray these parasitic politics. The first way is the use of the
Hall Walker van which was an almost a surreal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Altman also uses dialogue in a similar manor. The nature of dialogue itself is solely for creating
and upholding the self image of the Nashville Star weather you are one or not. The conversations
never get passed the surface issues, and no one ever speaks their mind unless it s safe. But, the
reality of each character is very real and deep due to the way the dialogue was set up. Most of
the people were frivolous so in order to add some depth and reveal their true character Altman
had to make the dialogue as realistic as possible. The dialogue seemed almost unrehearsed or not
planned at all which gives it its reality. The most odious example of this is when the Hal Walker
representative is arguing about the political sign with Barbra Gene s husband at Centennial Park.
He slips on his line in the heat of the argument. I don t know if this was intentional or not, but I
think they chose to keep it in the movie because it seemed to be more true to reality than just a
smooth flowing argument that would normally be in a movie. The little slip gave way, for the first
time, a vulnerable side to the Hal Walker rep or even politics for that matter.
There is also another form of acousmatic, and it is the subtle comments of the crowd. Because there
are so many appearances and performances the crowd reaction becomes very important to the
context of the story from an outside critical standpoint. Putting these comments together creates one

Essay On Thermodynamics
An Overview of Thermodynamics and Bioenergetics with respect to Biochemistry
What is Thermodynamics?
It is that field of physical science which describes the relationship between heat and other forms of
mechanical, chemical and electrical energy. It basically deals with the basics of heat to the kinetic
theories to the laws of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is widely used by biochemists to
understand chemical reactions and processes taking place in an organism. Thermodynamics is
based to three laws, out of which the first two are of importance for the biochemists.
First Law Of Thermodynamics
The first law is also known as the the law of conservation of energy. The law states that the energy
can neither be created nor destroyed but it can be changed from one form to another. Meaning
energy in the universe remains constant but can be changed from one form to another. The transfer
of energy from one form to another is an inefficient process. Energy is lost in many ways when
work is done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Entropy is basically the measure of energy which is not available in a closed system for
mechanical work or in easier words the degree of randomness in a system. An good biochemical
example is that of proteins. A polypeptide that is folded into a protein is more confined in
orientation that that of unfolded protein chain, which can be freely undergo into any
conformation. The polypeptide chain that is folded has a negative entropy change and the
polypeptide that is unfolded, the entropy increases and the change is positive. Entropy is can only
be measured in a closed system. As the organism is not a closed system, there are a number of
difficulties in measuring entropy changes for biological processes. The Gibbs Free Energy (G) is a
better indicator of spontaneous change, as it takes the enthalpy change into consideration as

  • 2. The Roles and Influences of Media on Crime In the political world, media has both a positive and negative affect. Americans as a whole are engrossed with crime whether it be a fictional representation on a person s favorite television show, or a true story the nightly news. The entertainment media influences our lives in consciously and subconsciously, day in and day out, playing a critical and constantly cultivating role in the criminal justicesystem and the conduct of politics. How exactly does one determine what media is? According to your standard Google search on the definition of the term, media is, the main means of mass communication (esp. television, radio, newspapers, and the Internet) regarded collectively. Broken down, this ultimately means that any means by which information is spread can be considered media. Even from the founding of the United States, freedom and active accessibility of press and media has taken a serious part in American politics. It would be difficult to imagine politics with out the accompaniment or presence of the media. The availability of political information through media resources has changed over time with the advancement of technology and overall globalization of our modern world. FUNCTIONS Mass media is not only built on entertainment value alone, but it also has political importance. By the time the average high school student has graduated, they have spent more time in front of the television than in a classroom, and in that classroom time, often the information that ... • 4. Critical Incident INTRODUCTION The reason for this essay is to reflect on a critical incident that took place during my three week placement as a student nurse at Foster ward in Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. The incident chosen is on language barrier in communication. This incident has made an impact on me due to the fact that effective communication is key to patient health outcomes and language has influence on effective communication. . There are various reflective models written by various theorists and they include: Atkins and Murphy (1993) Stephen (1993) Johns (1988) Gibbs (1988) For this critical incident the model I have chosen to use is Gibbs (1988) reflective model as a guide because it is more understandable and will reflects more clearly on ... I left him and called one of my friends who understand French to explain these words in French if you remove the bandage, it will not help the wound to heal on time . The Friend explained it to me and when a spoke the French, he (Mr. M.B) was happy. Though he had already removed the bandage from the wound, he allowed me to apply a new dressing on the wound. Since that time he became my friend and was always speaking to me in French thinking I understood him. I was dressing his wound every morning. The wound was almost healed when I was leaving the ward. In the next section, i will discuss the feelings i experienced during this situation. • 5. Solar Power And Solar Energy Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount. Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by the cost savings from not paying for utility ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing to around п¬Ѓve foot these plants are suited to this environment as they have a matt of short hairs that cover all the leaves. These hairs act as an insulating layer against hot and cold, and they also trap moisture. Common saltbush is a grayish white shrub that grows to be around a meter tall. They are not a pretty plant, but are well adapted to living in dry, alkaline environments. It has scales on the leaves to conserve water, although it doesn t like to hold large amounts of water. Also in droughts it has the ability to drop all leaves and see the drought through. The Joshua Tree mainly grows in the Joshua Tree National Park and is only found in the Mojave Desert. With a life span of 200 years, and a maximum height of just over 12 meters this tree also has 2 root systems. One root systems buries deep and stores water in large bulbs up to 10 meters underground. • 7. Reducing the Carbon Footprint The 7th principle of green chemistry states A raw material or feedstock should be renewable rather than depleting whenever technically and economically viable. 1 This means making use of easily available, cheap, and non exhaustive resources like biomass consisting of plant or animal feedstock and/or carbon dioxideto make platform chemicals and commercially viable products instead of our conventional non renewable resources like fossil fuels, natural gas, and oil. The rising fuel and energy demands of an ever growing world population in the last two decades have resulted in rapid depletion of these non renewable resources. These circumstances have forced us to look at other possible sources to sustain the chemical, fuel and energy requirements of a growing and developing planet. Renewable feedstocks can be the answer to this. However the major challenge /test in this is to develop platform chemicals and materials with pathways employing low energy consumption processes and which would be less toxic. Another important factor is to have a process in which the amount of carbon that is incorporated into the system is higher than the amount that goes out to the environment. This difference is referred to as the carbon footprint and if positive can help reduce global warming.1 So if these processes used in making new platform chemicals and materials along with the final chemicals themselves, can contribute to a positive carbon foot print along with less toxic and harmful effects ... Examples Of Light And Darkness In Fahrenheit 451 In Fahrenheit 45, Ray Bradbury uses the motifs of light and darkness to develop characters and demonstrate that knowledge and ignorance impact the wellbeing of society . The motifs of light and darkness show the crucial effects of knowledge and ignorance on society; knowledge brings happiness and meaning that ignorance hinders. Demonstrating the effects of knowledge, Clarisse and her family, as nonconformist of their society, are intellectual as a result of their exposure to books. During this encounter, Montag observes that her face was [a] fragile milk crystal with a soft constant light in [...] the strangely comfortable and rare and gently flattering light of the candle, (Bradbury 5). The light used to describe Clarisse symbolizes her wisdom that she uses to entice Montag. As a result, she is described in pleasurable way, connoted through Bradbury s use of the words soft, comfortable, and gently flattering. This shows that Clarisse s intellect develops her character as delightful throughout the novel. Unlike Clarisse, other figures in the novel are portrayed through the motif of darkness. The firemen, as conformist, burn books in their society to maintain equality. After his final encounter with Clarisse, Montag observes the firemen in the firehouse as they lit their eternally burning black pipes. They and their charcoal hair and soot colored brows and bluish ash smeared cheeks, (Bradbury 30). The firemen burn books, the essence of knowledge, thus they are responsible for the widespread establishment of ignorance in their society. As a result, the firemen are described with dark features through the words charcoal, ash, and soot. Symptoms And Treatment Of Depression Although older adults are at increased risk of depression, it is not a normal part of aging (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015; Mental Health Association, 2016). Depression is among the leading causes of disability in the general adult population, ages 18 years and above (US Preventative Services Taskforce [USPST], 2016). The US Preventative Services Taskforce recommends that all adult patients be screened for depression (USPST, 2016). Hong Kong has a closely connection with mainland China due to geographical proximity and 95% Chinese immigrants with of its population help to maintain the identity among Chinese in Hong Kong, despite they tend to blend of both oriental and Western elements(Tsu, 2014). Although the British colonial government in Hong Kong did not have any intention to fade Chinese identity, the colonial education system did not cover much about contemporary China(Luk, 1991) . Due to the gap in ideological and material conditions between Hong Kong and mainland China, the perception on identity and issues of nationalism/patriotism between many Hong Kong s Chinese people and the Chinese government are different (Tsu, 2014). Richard Dawkins identifies religion as being viral and harmful, much like a disease. Some people may disagree and claim that religionbrings about many great qualities in people, which is not incorrect. However it has brought about far more harm than good over the course of history. As of 2010, Pew Research estimates there to be 2.2 billion Christians[1] and 1.6 billion Muslims[2]. These 2 groups comprise almost half of the world s population and that is not even considering the hundreds of other faiths that are still practiced today. Pew also estimates that there are only about 1.1 billion people who are not affiliated with any faith[3], but some of these people still hold basic religious beliefs and are just not associated with a specific religion. • 15. How Statistics Is Important For The Quality Of Data Statistics is well defined as a division of mathematics and is most often used to explain, analyze, and summarize as well as interpret what we perceive in order to make sense or meaning of our interpretations. Every day we encounter statistics that originate from various forms and behaviors. Which means that to in order for all of the information gathered to make sense, there would realistically be no need for the use of statistics. Conversely, due to its focus and pragmatic on applications, statistics is characteristically considered a distinctive mathematical science rather than a division of mathematics (Chance et al, 2005). Therefore, some measures a statistician utilizes are less mathematical; for example, ensuring data collection is conceded in a manner that yields valid conclusions, recording results, or coding data in behaviors understandable to the users. Statistics has been recognized to improve the quality of data by forming specific survey samples and experiment strategies. It also offers tools used to forecast the use of data as well as statistical models. It is appropriate in many academic arenas that consist of business, social and natural sciences, and government, to list a few. Initial efforts backfired with many peasants choosing to slaughter their animals rather than give them to the collective farm. As for the kulaks, some fled to the cities to find work while others decided to try and fight back. In retaliation, the OGPU (secret police) acted quickly and arrested the troublemakers. Massive numbers were deported across the country and into the Urals, Siberia, or the North. The intense crackdown was eventually a success. By 1932, the per cent of collectivized peasant farms had reached 62% according to official Soviet figures (Fitzpatrick, 138). Economical and financial factors are the most important barriers followed by market availability for penetration of solar water heater [5]. A study has been conducted to find out determining factors behind adoption of various solar energytechnologies: solar photovoltaic and solar thermal options, collecting data from 296 respondents from Chennai. It has been found that scarcity for electricity and carbon free operation are two most dominating motivating factors. A single point estimation of economic viability showed that it is feasible for Chennai [6]. The life cycle cost and payback period assessment has been done taking three cities in united states ( Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago),two auxiliary systems (natural gas and electricity) and two types of solar collector (flat plate and evacuated tube). It varies from 4 to 13 years for different configurations [7]. Economic study has been conducted to calculate electrical energy savings, payback period and cost of unit electricity saved. Also by mentioning, hope as a permanent thing in inside of us, allows us to acquire most of what life gives to us. The second stanza creates some kind of opposition for the hope, and in this stanza persona metaphorically describe a person, who destroys his/her hope. Lawrence, an English novelist and literary critic, penned his essay On the Scarlet Letter as a critique of the novel The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence argued that Hester Prynne, the novel s protagonist, is not a victim, but rather is a sinful, corrupted character acting in her own self interest. Lawrence was effective in portraying his analysis of Prynne by his use of harsh diction, biblical allusions, and choppy syntax. The harsh diction utilized by Lawrence in his essay achieves his purpose. Lawrence began his critique by introducing his cynical perspective that the greatest triumph a woman can have, especially an American woman, is seducing a man, especially if he is pure (Lawrence). This hyperbole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He emphasized irony through these contrasts, because of the ways in which society has portrayed both Prynne and Magdalene from their independent actions. Lawrence writes and instructs to take Prynne and put her on the scaffold and worship her there (Lawrence). This opposes Prynne s sinful shame on the scaffold to the pure worship of the Virgin Mary. His purpose in satirizing the two is achieved, as he creates a mockery of Prynne s misconduct. Similar to Magdalene, Lawrence argued that Hawthorne s portrayal of Hester as a victim is inherently flawed, and her scheming nature insists that her able nature be further questioned. With this in mind, Lawrence compared Prynne to the biblical character of Abel (Lawrence). In the book of Genesis, the Holy Bible explains that Cain murders his twin brother Abel out of a fit of jealousy. Since Prynne takes on the role of Abel in his critical essay, Lawrence s tone deemed the symbol of Cain to be the root cause of Prynne s sin. Like Abel, Prynne is viewed by society as a victim, as thus has a reputation forever defined by these labels. This is seen most in The Scarlet Letter as Prynne never completely escapes her identity as a sinful woman. Although Prynne lives on in the conclusion of the novel while Dimmesdale died, her actions lead her in a permanent state of separation from God. Furthermore, Lawrence s selection of choppy syntax communicates his aggressive stance on Prynne. Through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. International Trade of Developing Countries International trade of developing countries is the classic weak vs. strong dichotomy, and underdeveloped or developing countries cannot make it solely on their own efforts; the have nots need help from the haves. Developed nations trumpet the claim that the answer to developing nations international trade issues is untrammeled or open market activity as opposed to government intervention by developed nations governments. This begs the question as to what extent the governments of developed nations are or should be responsible for supporting developing countries growth in international trading markets. Often the protectionist actions of developed nations governments to enhance their own international trading activities are the very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 511): Recent literature on international trade negotiation accords considerable attention to the ways in which developing countries increasingly coalesce to effect gains for themselves in negotiation, mostly with the developed world. This is both appropriate and important: from the Uruguay Round to the Doha Round, coalitions have facilitated the gains (and, at times, the losses) made by the weak against the strong. (Singh, 2006, p. 499). Regional agreements and export import aid by developed nations to developing nations have provided some relief through the U.S. Export Import Bank (Ex Im Bank), the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the European Union/Common Market, among others (Carbaugh, 2013). Import Substitution and Export led Growth The two key approaches by developing nations to implement their own trade policies are import substitution and export led growth. Import substitution strategy is inward oriented: trade and industrial incentives favor the domestic market over the export market of developing nations, a strategy utilized extensively in Latin America by Argentine, Brazil, and Mexico (Carbaugh, 2013, p. 247). Advantages of this approach include: Risks of developing the domestic industry to replace imports are low because the market already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Society s View On The Profession Of Journalism Essay In many ways, it can be argued that through the use of film, society s view on the profession of journalism can be reflected to be uncover and investigate stories that we ourselves dare not. (McNair, B. 2010. Pg.12) By acting as our collective conscience, journalists can be portrayed through film and television shows to act as a unifying source within our society; exposing our shared beliefs, morals and ideas into the public eye. This can be seen through the All The President s Men (1976), where the journalists are portrayed as investigative, daring, and strive to reveal the truth through their courage and perseverance. However, journalists in filmcan also be represented in a paradoxical way. In the film Nightcrawler (2014), the journalistin the film, Lou Bloom, is portrayed to have little or no morals when it comes to the profession of journalism. He can be seen to fabricate the truth or manipulate others in order to acquire a story that would have maximum impact when shown on the television. The following essay will explore whether journalists in films act as our collective conscience, going to places and doing things that we ourselves dare not, and without courage we would, as societies, be very much worse off as the critic, McNair believes. In the first instance, All The President s Men (1976) centres on a storyline of two reporters, Woodward and Bernstein who work together to uncover and expose the American government better known as the Watergate scandal. ... • 46. Essay Robert Altmans Nashville Nashville Essay Robert Altman s movie Nashville is based on the political, social, and personal problems that our country has to deal with. These problems are rooted in the battle between the need to create some false image of success and the need for truth which is the struggle that exists in every character of this film (except Jeff Goldbloom). To show this Robert Altman takes us through Nashville s Country Music using political commentary, music and realistically portrayed dialogue to tell the story. Altman portrayed politics as sort of a parasite feeding off of the Nashville dream. He used acousmatic sound in two ways to portray these parasitic politics. The first way is the use of the Hall Walker van which was an almost a surreal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Altman also uses dialogue in a similar manor. The nature of dialogue itself is solely for creating and upholding the self image of the Nashville Star weather you are one or not. The conversations never get passed the surface issues, and no one ever speaks their mind unless it s safe. But, the reality of each character is very real and deep due to the way the dialogue was set up. Most of the people were frivolous so in order to add some depth and reveal their true character Altman had to make the dialogue as realistic as possible. The dialogue seemed almost unrehearsed or not planned at all which gives it its reality. The most odious example of this is when the Hal Walker representative is arguing about the political sign with Barbra Gene s husband at Centennial Park. He slips on his line in the heat of the argument. I don t know if this was intentional or not, but I think they chose to keep it in the movie because it seemed to be more true to reality than just a smooth flowing argument that would normally be in a movie. The little slip gave way, for the first time, a vulnerable side to the Hal Walker rep or even politics for that matter. There is also another form of acousmatic, and it is the subtle comments of the crowd. Because there are so many appearances and performances the crowd reaction becomes very important to the context of the story from an outside critical standpoint. Putting these comments together creates one huge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Essay On Thermodynamics An Overview of Thermodynamics and Bioenergetics with respect to Biochemistry What is Thermodynamics? It is that field of physical science which describes the relationship between heat and other forms of mechanical, chemical and electrical energy. It basically deals with the basics of heat to the kinetic theories to the laws of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is widely used by biochemists to understand chemical reactions and processes taking place in an organism. Thermodynamics is based to three laws, out of which the first two are of importance for the biochemists. First Law Of Thermodynamics The first law is also known as the the law of conservation of energy. The law states that the energy can neither be created nor destroyed but it can be changed from one form to another. Meaning energy in the universe remains constant but can be changed from one form to another. The transfer of energy from one form to another is an inefficient process. Energy is lost in many ways when work is done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Entropy is basically the measure of energy which is not available in a closed system for mechanical work or in easier words the degree of randomness in a system. An good biochemical example is that of proteins. A polypeptide that is folded into a protein is more confined in orientation that that of unfolded protein chain, which can be freely undergo into any conformation. The polypeptide chain that is folded has a negative entropy change and the polypeptide that is unfolded, the entropy increases and the change is positive. Entropy is can only be measured in a closed system. As the organism is not a closed system, there are a number of difficulties in measuring entropy changes for biological processes. The Gibbs Free Energy (G) is a better indicator of spontaneous change, as it takes the enthalpy change into consideration as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
