Symbolism In Susan Glaspell s Trifles
Trifles is an amazing play filled with many subtle symbolizations of the recently widowed woman
named Mrs. Wright. The play starts when all the characters walk into the house of John Wright. The
characters are two women, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, and three men, a sheriff, county attorney and
Hale. They walk into a home to investigate the murder of Mrs. Wright s (Minnie Foster) husband who
was found strangled to death. There are many Symbolic messages that are all connected to Mrs.
Wright throughout the play. From the beginning of the play, you know that Mrs. Wright is angry and
depressed. Between a conversation with Hale, Mrs. Wright has no emotion about the death of her
husband; Hale: Can t I see John? No , she says, kind o dull like. ... Show more content on

Peters says Oh, her fruit; it did freeze (1394). She is talking about her bottle of fruit which represents
Mrs. Wright life as well. Fruit enclosed in a bottle can last for a while but not forever. It turns rotten.
Mrs. Hale knows that this man locked up Minnie Foster (Mrs. Wright) who was a cheerful sweet
woman in that house, expected her to do everything and knew that after a while her heart would freeze
and she d stop singing. So just like the fruit froze and broke so did Mrs. Wright.
At the end of the play, Mrs. Hale finishes the play with the following statement; We call it knot it, Mr.
Henderson (County Attorney) (1401). Throughout the play the question of whether Mrs. Wright was
going to quilt it or knot it kept coming up. As the play progresses the women find clues and start to
realize that Mrs. Wright killed her husband which is why Mrs. Hale makes that statement. The men do
not realize this though as they always thought of the women s findings as

The Importance Of Western Imperialism In East Asia
Eastern Superiority The most populated region in the world, number one in global manufacturing,
East Asia is very prosperous. The prosperity comes from a long line of success in India and in China.
Governments of both areas has been defending itself from western invaders. Some argue that east asia
did not resist western imperialism;however others say East Asia was very effective at resisting western
imperialism because the geography made the area hard to conquer. Furthermore for span of 3,000
years Easter Asia has prevented the western onslaught due to their advanced government. East Asia
was mainly ruled through dynasties which had successfully driven away conquering armies, which
caused proved successful in preventing western imperialism. From beginning of the chinese dynasties
(Shang Qing) and the empires of India the governments of East Asia stressed the upkeep and strength
of their armies. The Shang Dynasty was the first of many dynasties, they controlled Eastern Asia from
1766 to around 1122 BCE (Marsh). The shang ruled over a small piece of land and prevent invasions
from the north. The government was a king with a close knit aristocracy, which lead to fast and
efficient orders to be carried out. During the time of the shang Dynasty Mesopotamia and Egypt were
just developing, so there were no real threats and empires were starting to form. The biggest issue that
the Shang had were some small barbaric tribes and their successors the Zhou dynasty. The Zhou

The Government s Energy Star Program
EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES
INTRODUCTION
The federal government s energy star program was established in 1992 by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and started in order to save businesses and
families save money. This program has many companies investing in energy efficient projects to help
boost the market. While promoting these products, the energy star program also helps to reduce energy
consumption and pollution. Along with saving energy, it helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Reducing
the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment surrounding them.
This will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the emission of such gases and
strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014).
BODY
High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs (Energy Star, 2014). These
machines are front or top loading with a larger tub capacity. Families are able to wash fewer loads
which enables them to use less water. Companies continue working on their models to save more
money. Washers made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more than ten years old, you
should look into purchasing a newer model (Energy Star, 2014). Washing machines did not earn the
Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). When comparing the how much energy the
models use, you need to look at the yellow EnergyGuide label. This tells you how much energy each
load of laundry uses and the

Residential Sprinklers System
In the times it takes two minutes to past, could you make it out of your home? Could your family? The
American Red Cross states that it can take as few as two minutes to become deadly, compared to the
ten minutes many survey takes believed they had (American Red Cross, 2015). When you think of
everything we do to protect our homes, families, and property with insurance, security alarms and
locks, why do we not find more home sprinklers systems? This essay hopes to highlight the benefits of
residential sprinkler systems. Fire sprinklers have been around since the late 19th century yet the
technology has been slow to be adopted in residential construction. The main reason for the slow
adoption is due to strong resistance from homebuilders

Special Education Requires a Lot of Education, Time and...
What if students with special needs had to sit in a classroom and try to learn like a normal student?
The success of students would not be existent without special needs teachers. Special education
teachers help students with disabilities fit in as best as they can by teaching them to do everyday
things. These tasks can include brushing their teeth, going to the bathroom, and feeding themselves.
Special education teachers put in a lot of work to create the best lifestyle for the students that they
teach. Fourteen percent of the kids in the United States have special needs. Those fourteen percent
need teachers to help them. Special Education requires a lot of education, daily work, tools,
technology, and testing, but it is a very rewarding job. Special education can be a very confusing field
and varies with the location and circumstances. Very few special education teachers work with
students with severe disabilities ( Teachers Special Education 2). The majority of employees in the
special education field work with mild to moderate disabilities (2). Most special education teachers
work with students one on one in a normal classroom environment (2). There are a few teachers that
work with their students in separate rooms aside from the student s normal classroom (3). There are
very few special education teachers that work in residential places, at home, or in a hospital (2). There
are some teachers that work with a baby at home (2). A special education teacher needs to

Truck Drivers Myths
We know you ve heard people talk about the trucking industry; most have no idea what they re talking
about, not to mention seeing the entertainment industry bash on truck drivers for one reason or
another. People who don t personally know truckers don t know what the life is like, so we re here to
set the facts straight to some of the most common myths about truck drivers and the industry.
Myth #1
Truck drivers are drug users or serial killers Truck drivers often get stuck with a bad reputation thanks
to the movie industry where many truckers portray drug abusers, outlaws and violent criminals. First,
to debunk the drug abuse, due to the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991, drug and
alcohol screening must be done in numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure, movies may show truck drivers as violent criminals, and there have been some cases of that;
however, most of the time, truckers are responsible, helpful people who fight crime daily and respond
first to accidents.
Myth #2
Truck drivers cause traffic accidents Did you know that truck drivers are 3 times less likely to get into
an accident than a normal vehicle and 4 times more likely to pass inspection than passenger vehicles?
Only 2.4% of commercial drivers are involved in traffic accidents.
Myth #3
Male truckers are better drivers than females Along with the myth that there are few women in the
trucking industry, the myth that male truck drivers are better than female truck drivers exists as well.
We ve all heard it before...men are better drivers than women, so it really comes as no surprise that
this myth exists. In the United States, there are over 200,000 women with a career in the trucking
industry. Female truckers are 3 times less likely to get into a traffic accident than male truck drivers, 5
times less likely to violate safety regulations, and 4 times more likely to pass the exam to obtain their

The Importance Of Social Habits
Social Habits deals with how we relate with our peers, environment and the community at large.
Social habits is based upon the inaugurating ties, which are the information carrying connections
between people. It has been established in Power of Habits, Charles Duhigg and other personal
experiences that social habits are necessary for starting and boosting a movement. Taking references
from Chapter eight (8) which discusses about American icon Rosa Parks, thrown into jail for her
refusal to give up her seat on the Bus for a white man. This caused a civil rights crusade thereafter,
giving rise to the boycott movements which main members include Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King
Jr, Clifford Durr (Lawyer), E.D Nixon and Mrs. Nixon. This crusade was supported because of the ties
Rosa Parks made by several people, as she was well known in the society, being deeply involved in
the community. The boycott movement, used this incident to challenge the city s segregation laws and
maintain equality between the white and black races. The movement did not start because Rosa Parks
had several friends, it started because of what sociologists call weak ties . Charles Duhigg made us
understand that weak ties are more significant than close friends in many ways because of the
connections they have (friends of friends of friends). However, our close friends are usually (most
times) in the same groups and organizations with us making information easily comparable and not
assorted enough to

Examples Of Tension In 12 Angry Men
The small setting of the room, few props and the heat, along with camera levels, builds tension and
releases it throughout 12 Angry Men. Towards the beginning tension is put in to play as the setting of
film is in a small, un airconditioned room on a hot summer day. Throughout the film the jurors
comment on the weather which effects certain juror s moods. Juror number 7 says This is the hottest
day of the year. You d think they d at least air condition the place. The heat irritates and agitates most
of the jurors, resulting in clashes of moods, further adding to the tension. Throughout the film the
camera level goes from above eye level to eye level, increasing the tension by showcasing more
reactions and emotions during intense scenes.
The mise en scène when we first see the jury room creates a perfect setting for tension to build. In the
room, we see very few props, which helps make the room seem small. The room has a table with 12
chairs, ashtrays on the table, a fan on the wall, 2 overhead key lights, a few books, papers and another
small table. The jurors also can t leave until they either all decide to send an 18 year old to the electric
chair, or free. The men are all wearing jackets, even though the weather is hot and the heat makes
them sweaty and agitated. Many of the men are smoking, which might show they are agitated or
anxious. Early on in this room, tension starts to rise as juror number eight is the only one who votes
not guilty. This all happens in the

Hybrid Vehicles and Their Effect on the Environment Essay
Today, people use their own personal vehicles to travel more than ever before. Personal transportation
is no longer considered a luxury; it is now considered a necessity. The number of cars in the United
States has been growing steadily since the 1970s. The number of miles traveled by cars has risen
nearly 150 percent, yet the United States population has only grown roughly 40 percent during that
time (hybridcars.com, Driving Trends). Although it may seem like we are advancing into the future, in
reality, we are moving backwards from the effects these vehicles have on our bodies and the
environment. The pollution produced by these vehicles has brought us to the day where we must find
other modes of transportation that cause less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, there are still other pollutants that have a greater effect on people and the
environment.
Carbon Monoxide Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas that affects the flow of
oxygen to one s brain and other parts of the body. This gas merges with the hemoglobin in a person s
blood, which then weakens the flow of oxygen in the body (hybridcars.com, Pollutants). The effects
are severe and in some cases deadly towards smokers and people with heart disease (Larminie 246).
This toxin can permanently alter the central nervous system throughout the body (hybridcars.com,
Pollutants). Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are not the only pollutants that come from vehicles.
Sulphur and Nitrogen Oxides Sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides both have great effect on the lungs.
Sulphur oxides cause respiratory illnesses, mostly in children, the elderly, and people who already
have heart and lung diseases (hybridcars.com, Pollutants). Nitrogen oxide causes the lungs to be
irritated and increase the chances of infection. Nitrogen oxide can also react with other surrounding
agents to cause ground level ozone, or smog. The creation of the ozone then irritates the eyes,
damages the lungs and causes respiratory problems (Larminie 246).

America Makes Us Different Essay
I think America is defined by what makes us different. When i think of America i think of a blended
country with many different people and races. You normally think of blacks, whites, mexicans,
indians, italians, Germans, irish, gays, transgenders, etc. We are all coexistent with each other but
different. There s many different types of people it s not just americans. For example rednecks and city
people. They are very different from each other city people are proper and don t do many reckless
things and aren t as crazy they are more calm and smarter and successful, they strive to do more. Most
are even advocates. Where rednecks are crazy and reckless and don t make the smartest decisions.
They are more likely to be bigotry. They make more excessively bad decisions than most normal city
people would. They are more street smart than book smart. But they have more fun than city people
who are continuously working and striving. They are still both americans but are disparate from each
other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

At First, I Tried To Focus On My Own Rhythm As I Did While
At first, I tried to focus on my own rhythm as I did while playing the gyil. I quickly discovered that
this was doomed to failure; I could not keep time with the multitude of pulsing beats around me. I then
tried putting the rhythm in my hands only, and backing my focus up to encompass the entire ensemble.
The concept of polyrhythm as intertwined parts creating a complex whole finally clicked. My
perception of the astsiagbekor suddenly shifted from individual parts surrounded by unrelated noise to
an incredibly complex whole that needs every part to be complete. With this new insight, I found my
place in the polyrhythm and heard the unique form of unity that society strives to achieve. Third, the
organization of pitch. First and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standardization of pitch or lack thereof strongly influences a cultures system of notation. It must be
mentioned that innumerable cultures do not notate their music, it is passed on in person and by
memory. Western music uses the beginning of the Latin alphabet to name pitches. These pitches are
also assigned places on a staff of lines and spaces as indicated by a clef. I find this system the most
functional because it is a visual representation of pitch, rhythm, intervals, relativity, and how multiple
parts line up. Indonesian gamelan uses a cipher notation. Each gamelan ensemble has its own unique
tuning, so the pitched sounds of each instrument are assigned corresponding numbers. Cipher notation
indicates pitch with numbers and rhythm with their spacing. I thought that this would be difficult to
get used to. In reality, it was actually simple and easy to understand. This system places emphasis on
the importance of listening to the ensemble rather than focusing only on one s individual part of the
score because the other instruments indicate when and what to play. I enjoyed my experience with
gamelan, the instruments are fun to play, the music is pleasant to hear, and the ensemble emphasizes a
form of unity that can only be found in making music together. Fourth, forms of music structure. A
structure common in various forms around the world is call and response. The idea of interaction

Categories In My Word Cloud
When writing everyday, whether it be writing a caption on a new post, texting a friend, or journaling
everyday, people do not think of their use of words and how it reflects things about them. The word
cloud project takes those words and compiles a list of them that are used most often. I chosed to use
summaries that were written on my phone on days that were eventful and I would like to remember.
The summaries reflect what I did everyday over the summer and what I liked the most from that day.
Categories in my word cloud is summer school, softball, and vacation which show my value in daily
activities. The words school, work, lunch, world, and history are present in my word cloud because the

The Origin Of Diversity Within Species
According to Charles Darwin, he suggested that all organisms were descendants from a common
ancestor that was once existed in the past (Darwin 1859). As organisms share a lot of common
characteristics due to common ancestry, the history of evolution of different species can be known
through comparing how closely their genes and body structures were. The more similar those
characteristics are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of
diversity between every single species and between every single individual. Diversification allows
organisms to occupy different niches in the ecosystem. In this essay, the origin of diversity within

Origin of diversity between species
A common ancestor gave rise to all organisms on earth. However, every individual species developed
their own distinct character that allows them to play a specific role in the ecosystem. Diversity is
caused as species are being isolated by geographic barriers or by sexual selection. The diversity
between species can be present as there is a difference in the species heritable trait. Those organisms
that contain an advantageous allele that allows them to be better adapted to the environment survive
and reproduce. As a result, the advantageous allele will be inherited by the offspring and the frequency
of the advantageous allele will increase within the population. In the example of Strepsirhini, it was

How Globalization has Affected the American Automotive...
Globalization brought upon many changes to the American Automotive Industry in 1975. Increasing
demand for import automobiles and the Energy Policy and Conservation Act served to be a real threat
to the Ford Motor Company, American Motors, Chrysler Corporation, and General Motors. Out of
these four manufacturers Chrysler was affected the worst by the industrial change, as they required a
federal aid and required brand /management changes to revive themselves. Globalization formed a
more competitive market in the United States during the 1970 s due to the changing emissions
standards. The American Automotive Industry had to adjust to the new emissions standards from the
Clean Air Act of 1970, and the fuel economy requirements of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act,
all while building cars that attracted to American consumers. These new requirements caused many
Americans to lose their curb appeal for larger, higher output vehicles. The Japanese and European
imports were lighter and more fuel efficient, so naturally they were better suited to meet new emission
requirements. As a result imports took up 18% of cars sold in America, a share almost 20% higher
than previous years, but none were actually made in America. In fact imports were so successful that
Japan had to limit their import control to protect the U.S. Automotive industry while it recuperated.
However the production of transplants vehicles rose from 1.4 percent of the market to 16 percent. The

Lupe Fiasco’s Modern Voice Essay
History has constantly brought upon leaders and individuals who stands up against the corrupt society
he and many others face. Those leaders express their profound thoughts for both him and the many
others that are too afraid to speak out. One of the most notorious writers in American history and is
known for his transcendental ideals. However, today s society lacks individuals who parallels with
Whitman. Lupe Fiasco represents the Modern American voice speaking out against the degrading
world society and does so by influencing the public through their appeal of music. He rejects and
contrasts from the negative influences of the world and uses his music to contradict those who degrade
our society. Born in the west side of Chicago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the song, Fiasco portrays the manipulation that many are often affected by. He suggests that others
should, like him, ignore what others think and act purely on what you believe. Fiasco uses the analogy
of slaves to describe the similar effects of losing one s individuality. The experiences one would face
if he/she succumbs into the negative influences of others would be similar to that of African American
slaves. Because of human nature, jealousy exists amongst every individual and by allowing others to
control aspects of your life, he/she will be able harm those dependent variables of one s life. Similarly,
Whitman states that one should freely ...give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and
crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience
and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or
number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers
of families... (Leaves of Summer, Preface) Whitman again describes the idea of individualism. People
fear of the higher power and often let that fear consume them, eventually eliminating the individual s
ability to act freely. He implies that people should ignore those circumstances and without

Throughout my research on individuals with Spina Bifida, I highlighted the effects of Spina Bifida on
a person. My research showed me that when someone has Spina Bifida, they can live a normal life just
like anyone else, with a few adaptations to their daily life. Other research showed me that life with
Spina Bifida can be dramatically different than someone without this disease. I used evidence from the
Mayo Clinic, My Child Without Limits, and other Children s Hospital s doctors. I am also defending
the side of the argument that believes women should not abort their babies if they have Spina Bifida. I
think that women should not be allowed to abort their children because they have a disability. As a
result of the research I will elaborate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike other diseases, Spina Bifida is a disease that cannot be cured with a drug or surgery. There is
not a current cure for Spina Bifida, but there are ways of making the symptoms more endurable. If the
child has Myelomeningocele, soon after birth, the child will most likely need surgery. The baby is at
high risk of infection, so according to Seattle Children s Hospital, Because part of your baby s spinal
cord area is exposed, your baby is at risk of getting an infection or having more damage to the spinal
cord. To lessen the risk, our neurosurgeons will operate within your baby s first 24 to 48 hours of life (
Myelomeningocele, 2016). The surgeon will cover the spinal cord and closes the muscles around the
muscle cord. Lastly, they close the skin to cover the spine. If the baby has hydrocephalus, which is
when there is too much cerebrospinal fluid in the head and a shunt may be required to drain the fluid (

crutches or wheelchairs ( Myelomeningocele, 2016). This will help with the slight paralysis that the

The Concept Of Sexuality In Maya Angelou s Phenomenal Woman
Phenomenal Woman is a poem written by an American poet, activist and a storyteller, Maya Angelou.
Phenomenal Woman boasts the powerful and captivating beauty and sexuality of the speaker that
attracts men to her. This sexuality includes her independence as well as confidence through all types
of cultural norms. Including moral, familial, religious and economic. The concept of sexuality tends to
be influenced by these aspects.
Interestingly, Maya Angelou s biography contradicts with her poem. As during her youth, she had
been sexually assaulted by her mother s lover. Ironically in her poem, it talks about a powerful woman
who is filled with confidence and ambitions in life. Which also does give an impression of a
tremendously strong woman. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These visual imageries give an impression of the speaker s appearance. The imagery portrays
confident and proud women when she describes the women. She also exploits visual imagery so that
people can picture her image as somebody who can embrace herself well in spite of her race and color.
The poem further appears to have some sort of musical lyrics, which is linked to Angelou s
background as a dancer. This musical tone is evident the refrain and rhyme of the poem. The musical
lyric is further seen in the use of words with the same number of syllables at the start of every line of a
stanza for instance The sun of my smile/The flash of my teeth and others all have five syllables. The
poet also assumes an ironic tone as illustrated by her judgment of the world s perception of a perfect
woman and her own understanding of an ideal woman.
The poem s overall structure is also similar to natural curves of a woman, which further stresses its
theme. The use of alliteration devices is also evident in the line, Pretty women wonder , which
explains the contrast between world s view of a pretty woman and her own view (Angelou 1).
Furthermore, the last line in all stanzas is used to express the fact that the speaker is truly a
phenomenal woman. There s no doubt about that

Mr. Artesian s Conscientiousness By Ogden Nash
Mr. Artesian s Conscientiousness a poem by Ogden Nash 1. Mr. Artesian s Conscientiousness
describes a man who wanted the smallest amount of wasted time. He cuts his amount of sleeping,
eating, and shaving to dedicate to his work. Instead, he uses shortcuts, avoiding these time consuming
jobs that eventually add up to the amount in years and months. As one last effort to save time, he
jumps from his 15th floor office window to the ground to his death. 2. Mr. Artesian s

It makes you think about the events, the main character and what they say and in deeper context, what
it means in reality. The author uses irony to make their audience stop and think about what has just
been said, and to emphasize a central idea. It is the audience s job realizing the distinction between
what is said and what is common or predictable is needed to the effective use of irony. The quote helps
reveal this idea. The Lottery Short story by Shirley Jackson 1. The Lottery demonstrates a community
who follows traditions without morals, which ends in a unnecessary yearly murder. Mr. Summers, the
conductor of the lottery, calls each family heads to receive a slip of paper. The family which is called
comes on stage and pick another piece of paper, one for each member. The Hutchinsons are drawed
and pulled on stage, each given a paper, including their 3 children and parents. Mrs. Hutchinson is
chosen, as she had the paper with the black dot, and stoned to death by the children and townspeople.

There is a host of constitutional and statutory authority establishing that the Internal Revenue Service
is an agency of the United States. The U.S. Supreme Court stated in Donaldson v. United States, 400
U.S. 517, 534 (1971), [w]e bear in mind that the Internal Revenue Service is organized to carry out the

Pursuant to section 7801, the Secretary of Treasury (again Notice they do not define secretary) has full

The Black Civil Rights Movement
The history of United States is drenched in the fight for equality in the society. From women to gay
rights but it is undeniable that the black civil rights was the bloodiest and most violent among them.
Two methods were used to bring message to the people: the violent or the non violent way. Most
activists and civil rights group like Martin Luther King Jr., NAACP (National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People) and CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) at that time chose for the
latter but one did not follow that lead: the infamous Black Panthers Party. Each method had its effect
on the history for the equality of African Americans. The majority of participants in the civil rights
movement chose the non violent way. Within this path, individuals and groups took different
approaches to the method. There were individual protests here and there. The prominent of the black
civil rights movement began after the Brown vs. Board of Education decision where the Court
declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be
constitutional. The court case brought notice to the world about the state of African Americans.
Organized Civil Rights Movements went on the rise after that. People began to apply civil
disobedience to achieve their goals. Rosa Parks, a prominent figure in the Movement, was famous for
her action on one of her bus rides. The law back then required African Americans to sit in the back of
the bus but she refused to do

An Analysis Of So Much Water So Close At Home
In Carver s short story, So Much Water So Close to Home, three men go to Naches River for a fishing
trip and encounter a dead young woman in the river. Aware that the corpse is in the river, they
continue on with their fishing trip, not reporting it until they travel back home. Carver illustrates the
story through the eyes of Claire, the wife of the fisher. Carver depicts the differences in male and
female roles of a marriage and their psychological similarities, associated with why there was a need
to travel to further waters, when there is So Much Water So Close to Home. Ordinarily, man is the
provider and woman is the nurturer in a marriage. This is contrasted by the differences of Stuart and
Claire s roles as husband and wife. Man s role in a home is to be a gatherer of not only physical labors
but of answers. Claire is constantly seeking answers as to why her husband waited so long to report
the corpse, but he contains no answers for her as he says you re going to get me riled, (76) making her
findings of the truth qualities as the protector of the household. Their minds as husband and wife
functioned separately and in no way correlated to be a whole as Claire became more consumed by the
idea of the dead child. This consumption is relevant in the way Claire demands her husband to tell her
where their son by asking where is he? Where is Dean? (90) and how she has no trust over him
concerning their son because of the idea of the dead girl. This leads to her

Tarasoff V. Regents Case Study
One of the most important concepts in the field of social work and psychology is known as the duty to
warn and duty to protect. Duty to warn mandates mental health professionals to break client
confidentiality when they believe their client may harm. The duty to warn became a law in 1974 when
the California Supreme Court ruled that mental health professionals must have the duty to protect a
victim if the therapist believes that not warning them would protect them, the therapist must notify the
police or other authorities. There is a debate around duty to warn; many therapists feel that some
threats may not be credible. For example, a patient telling his therapist that they could just kill their
mother for grounding them from all their electronics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regents case has been an ongoing controversial debate for many therapists, as this began the start of
the duty to warn, duty to protect. Prosenjit Poddar was a graduate of the University of California. He
developed a strong infatuation with a woman he met at dance class named Tatiana Tarasoff. They
briefly dated, but Tarasoff called it quits as she wanted to continue to pursue other men. Poddar was
still very much in love with Tarasoff, and fell into a deep depression, and began stalking Tarasoff.
Poddar found a therapist at Berkley s Cowell Memorial Hospital by the name of Lawrence Moore. In
his last therapy session with Dr. Moore, he disclosed how he intended to kill his ex Tatiana Tarasoff.
Dr. Moore had diagnosed Poddar with acute paranoid schizophrenic reaction and called campus police
proposing that Poddar is brought to a psychiatric hospital for observation. The police brought in
Poddar for questioning but was later released when he stated he would stay clear of Tarasoff. Dr.
Moore was ordered by his supervisor not to request any further actions from the police for Poddar.

The Source and Cause of Violent Tendencies in Humans Essay
The Source and Cause of Violent Tendencies in Humans
Philosophers since the beginning of time have debated over the source and cause of violent tendencies
in humans that in turn produce global conflicts, to solve the age old question, man or beast? Global
conflict can with out a doubt be completely accredited to the human race, but what are the particular
reasons for humans to cause such conflicts? There are many topics that have been argued by
philosophers and historians over the connection between the reasons the human race and global
conflict. One such topic is the gender based theories and sexual differences of men and women. Others

When looking at the specific numbers men are mostly the source of human violence, especially men
age fifteen to twenty nine years of age, and there are many possible explanations for the reason why
young men are the leading cause of violence. David Barash offers a possible starting point in which he
asserts that men have always held the positions involving killing, or what might be called the killing
establishment soldiers, executioners, even slaughterhouse workers is overwhelmingly male (Barash 1).
When men could no longer play the hunter role, they still would have the urge or animalistic
inclination to compete or kill one another, which leads to violence, hence; men began killing each
other. This leads to gender division, which Carol Adams blames on the fact that the world has always
been a patriarchial system. Men have established themselves as the dominant position in the human
race, and because of this feeling of the need to be dominant there have been certain roles established
for the way each gender should behave. As Michael CC Adams asserts, this gender division actually
encourages male violence. War is a product of man according to Adams, and that in order to end war,
we shall have to create an androgynous society in which being male does not mean a preoccupation
with toughness and staying in control but includes the full range of openly expressed human feelings,

The Sorites Paradox And The Epistemic View
solution to it.
The Sorites Paradox begins with the problem that if one looks at a vague term such as a heap, at what
point is it no longer a heap if you keep taking grains of sand out of it. The same can be said for cattle,
if one keeps removing cattle from a herd when will it no longer be a herd. The Sorites Paradox is
paradoxical because all the premises appear to be true as well as the argument being valid (the
conclusion really follows from the premises); yet the conclusion appears to be false. In which case
there must be a problem with one of the premises in order for the conclusion to be false, however it is
very difficult to see which premise is false. One proposed solution to the problem is the Epistemic
view.
There are two versions of the argument the many premise version and the two premise version.
The keys steps in the many premise version of the Sorites Paradox are as follows:
(MPS) (1) 1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap; (2) If 1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap, then
1,000,000 1 (= 999,999) grains of sand make a heap;
So
(3) 999,999 grains of sand make a heap.
(Morris, 2016)
The argument begins with 1,000,000 grains of sand which can obviously be seen as a heap. One grain
of sand is subtracted each time e.g 1,000,000 1 = 999,999 grains of sand, with the conclusion
following that 999,999 grains of sand make a heap. This seems a valid argument as the conclusion
follows from the premises and it is clear that 999,999 grains of sand being

The And Chemical Properties Of Artificial Acids
Abstract: In this experiment, we made an artificial ester called pentyl ethanoate, also known as pentyl
acetate, and analyzed its physical and chemical properties. The method used in the experiment is an
esterification reaction. We synthesized pentyl ethanoate by mixing equal amounts of 1 pentanol and
ethanoic acid in the presence of a few drops of sulfuric acid, which is a strong acid catalyst. The
mixture of the reactants was heated for ten minutes in a hot water bath at a temperature of sixty
degrees Celsius and was given time to cool in a different beaker for five minutes. The product formed
was a colorless, insoluble liquid that smelled like banana candy. Two minutes later, a reverse reaction
had occurred and the aroma of banana changed to a marker smell. The pentyl ethanoate was on the
surface of the water mixture while the sulfuric acid, ethanoic acid, and 1 pentanol were dissolved into
the bottom of the water mixture. These findings helped us understand the importance of synthesizing
esters, the physical and chemical properties of artificial esters, and how the esterification reaction
between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid such as between 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid can form a
pleasant banana aroma ester, such as pentyl ethanoate.

The Epic Of Beowulf By Joseph Campbell
Joseph Campbell, a philosopher from the 1980 s, once said
She sits there. She is now a woman. And what is a woman? A woman is a vehicle for life. Life has
overtaken her. Woman is what it is all about the giving of birth and the giving of nourishment. She is
identical with the earth goddess in her powers, and she has got to realize this about herself. The boy
does not have a happening of this kind, so he has to be turned into a man and voluntarily become a
servant of something greater than himself.
This quotation directly relates to the idea that old English epics were not written about women due to
the fact that women did not need to go on a journey to find their womanhood. This thought by Joseph
Campbell is somewhat true in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does not want her husband to give up the throne to Beowulf, but instead to give it to her nephew
who can hold the throne until her son can rule. Queen Wealhtheow in these two occasions shows the
expected roles of women in a epic as well as the non expected behavior of a woman during this
period. Another woman in Beowulf is Hildeburh, she exemplifies basic women s roles during this time
by being married off as a peace offering, as well as defying them by standing up saying that her son is
her own and not to be associated with her husband. Hildeburh was originallty married off to keep the

his complete disapproval of the act and expresses just one of the reasons that many see it as a burden

The act was made to follow up Lyndon B. Johnson s Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which
was created on April 9th, 1965. However, the No Child Left Behind act twisted itself to negatively
influence the American education system by implementing inane standards and learning targets that do
not measure actual learning.
One overlying problem seen is within the testing that takes place. Through the act standardized testing
is implemented as a way to determine student proficiency levels, taking typical daily subjects out of
the day to make room for test taking curriculum. Teachers are no longer spending a majority of time
on practical real world skills, but are cramming the days with test taking strategies and skills needed to
prove their intelligence to the United States government. High stakes testing causes teachers to teach
to the test, which means narrowing content to focus solely on topics covered by the tests (Bohrnstedt
et. al. 324). Students are no longer yearning for an education but rather more are dropping out yearly
since No Child Left Behind has taken place, due to the intense testing that is now required. Teachers

History of African Americans and Higher Education Essay...
For blacks, the history of higher education typically points to segregated education. Before the Civil
War, the social system promoted the belief that blacks wouldn t get return on their time spent in higher
education. Brown and Ricard (2007) noted that most North institutions were reluctant to allow black
enrollment in colleges and universities, and in the South, where slaveholder s were still powerhouse
businessmen, slaves would never be allowed to become more educated than their owners. The
reluctance of the White leaders to allow blacks to formally be accepted into higher education
programs held blacks back from achieving what many aspired to, and were fully capable of,

When ex slaves demanded a formal public schooling, they were really asking the South to develop and
embrace a relatively new philosophy of education. Effectively, they were having white southerners
pay for the education of people they once owned as property, and had the right to receive what most
whites in the region hadn t had available previously. According to Anderson (n.d.), the Reconstruction
Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although more blacks were becoming
qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job demand shifted to industrial needs.
For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a broader, more useful education was a
beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary advocate for industrial training was Booker
T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly
that manual labor will be more beneficial to individuals because that was the type of work available
(Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E.
B. Du Bois. Du Bois, who came from Harvard, had higher aspirations than occupational education,
with a conviction that Black life and culture should be a primary topic of Black thought and

heading that stretches over the two double pages, Camilla s shocking claims Diana tried to KILL ME .
In this headline the words kill me are emphasized in all caps and are surrounded by red which can be
seen as a colour portraying blood, anger and violence, all which are not true to the Princess s
character. The journalist has clearly thought about the colours and placement of the article. The front

The Law And Civil Law
As American citizens it is our duty to follow the laws stated in the American Constitution in order to
maintain our rights to be free. If we fail to follow the laws we lose our rights as free citizens in these
United States. Our Department of Justice mission statement is: To enforce the law and defend the
interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and
domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment
for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all
Americans. This just means to keep the United States safe and justified. It is for people who threaten
that need to be punished in order for our country to remain a safe place. Laws are made to protect and
two types of laws are Criminal Law and Civil Law. They both punish wrong doers but different kinds.
Criminal Law is the body of statutory and common law that deals with crime and the legal punishment
of criminal offenses. While Civil Law deals with the disputes between individuals, organizations, or
between the two, in which compensation is awarded to the victim. In terms of punishment they are
different because in Criminal Law A guilty defendant is punished by either incarceration in a jail or
fine paid to the government, or, in exceptional cases, the death penalty. Crimes are divided into two
broad classes: Felonies and Misdemeanors. Defendant can be

Lovable Jerk Film Analysis
It is these three, however, who absolutely make the film what it is. Such unparalleled acting and
interactions between Lucas, Rachael and Travis. No, it s not the three stooges, for these three tell a
much more compelling story and give stunningly impressive performances that far supersede the
antics of those superb comedians from another era. While the story does involve a love triangle,
Hallmark s writers seem to avoid the pitfalls we sometimes witness when viewing films that revolve
around that particular issue. In fact, jealousy doesn t even seem to be the dilemma between the two
young men. At least, not jealousy over the young lady s affections.
As the lovable jerk, Travis portrays the smooth talking, forward thinking Will who is often looking for
a means to an end. Unfortunately, he is not overly principled in his business dealings nor his
relationships. He sees the attractive, vivacious Maya, and he decides to woo her right from the outset.
He is not as interested in her brains per se. Thankfully, he is open to discovering a new world with
Maya at times, but when he sees his chance to get ahead, no matter the ... Show more content on

True, other actresses could have played the role but not with the joi de vivre and sheer professionalism
that Rachael brings. Recently, I interviewed Rachael as well, and I am completely sold on her as a
person and an actress.
At the core of this film, is the message of integrity and not permitting anything to squelch your
dreams. And remembering what is important in this world. I can hardly wait to watch this film this
evening (August 20) on the Hallmark network because even though I ve already seen it, the second
viewing is bound to be better. I hope everyone will tune in I realize there are other things competing
for your time and attention, but I cannot recommend this film highly enough. Please at least set your

William Butler Yeats Essays
On June 13 1865 William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin Ireland. From the start Yeats had artistic
influences, due to the fact that his father Jack Butler Yeats was a noted Irish painter. He had no formal
education until he was eleven, at that time he started at the Godolphin Grammar School in
Hammer*censored*h England and later he enrolled in Erasmus Smith High School in Dublin.
Throughout his schooling he was considered disappointing student, his studies were inconsistent, he
was prone to day dreaming, and poor at sports. In 1884 Yeats found his way to the Metropolitan
School for the Arts, here he met a poet by the name of George Russell. Yeats and Russell sheared the
same dreams, visions, and the enthusiasm for them. Russell and Yeats ... Show more content on

Their relationship went through a lot including Gonne s short lived marrige to John McBride. Most of
Yeats s poetry is addressed to her. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose capriciousness led
to the destruction of a civilization. In 1986 Yeats became friends with Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory,
a nationalist playwright. Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to found the Abbey Theater. As the
director and dramatist Yeats helped to turn it into a leading theatrical company of the world and a
center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the century Yeats fought to abandon his old style of
writing, at this time his writing became less mystical and symbolic and it became clearer. Yeats
eventually got married in 1917, at the age of 52. His wife was Georgie Hyde Lees, while on their
honeymoon she discovered that she had mediumistic abilities. Through automatic writing she could
communicate with a visionary realm. In Yeats s later years he became more involved in politics. From
1922 1928 he was a senator for the Irish Free State. In 1923 Yeats received the Nobel Prize for
literature, and died on January 18 1939 in Roquebrune France. Yeats was buried in Sligo Ireland. A

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wetlands
One resource that can be both classified into two totally different categories make the management of
wetlands more difficult. The public want to protect the wetlands for their valueable functions while
privates want to use the wetlands for their direct economic profits. Kohn (1994) suggested that
policymakers and society need to balance private rights to convert land with public benefits from
keeping wetlands inact by compensating wetland owners or society can regulate conversion of
wetlands. However, the facts that about 82 percent of wetlands are privately owned in US and there is
no clear agreement between private owners and public (Heimlich, et al. 1998) make wetland
protection more complicated and controversy. Valueing wetlands can help visualizing the benefits of
wetlands, however difficult to implement, since values of wetlands are affected by historical events,
technological development and social views. In addition, even when wetlands values are determined,
these values will vary temporaly and spatially, for examples not all wetlands have the flooding
protection values or the recreational values can seasonally change. It is therefore the problem of
institutional arrangement to balance the public benefits (positive externalities of wetlands) and private
interests.

Protecting or conversing wetlands are the decisions made by balancing those two benefits. In case of
wetlands conversion the private benefits are bigger than public benefits, in contrast if wetlands are
protected, the public get more benefits than owners. Putting in the historical context, wetland policies
can be divided into two periods: emphasizing private good benefits (1600s mid 1900s), considering
public good benefits (1970 now). Wetlands policies in the US are quite diversity, this paper only

A Critical Analysis Of Merciles Beautee
A critical analysis of Merciles Beautee as compared with To Rosemounde, Hale sterne superne, hale in
eterne and Of my lady wel me rejoise I may.
The courtly lady...possesses a curiously hybrid gender. While maintaining stereotypically female
sexuality, she also holds, in principle at least, the status of a feudal lord. Burns statement insinuates a
reversal of power dynamics between man and woman in the courtly love lyric, implying that the
woman s stereotypical beauty and sexuality in courtship, is a gateway to subverting and overpowering
the lovesick male, making her a superior lord. The Amour Courtois lyric is deemed inconsistent with
the representation of woman as an empowered feudal lord due to the sheer objectification of
femininity and beauty. Poets such as Geoffrey Chaucer and William Dunbar commend a woman s
aesthetic appeal or satirise the lack of it, thus elevating medieval misogynistic expectations of physical
beauty as a feminine necessity that objectifies women under the control of man s advances.
Throughout courtly love lyrics female beauty is a purely frivolous and superficial trait lacking
predominant depth, to render woman as a lord would be poetically conflicting as the only power
exemplified by female subjects in courtship is through the idolisation and sexual lust of the male
devotee.
In Chaucer s Merciles Beautee , feminine beauty is represented as a superficial threat, merciless lust is
the sole weapon of the female against man in the fin

They walk into a home to investigate the murder of Mrs. Wright s (Minnie Foster) husband who was found strangled to death. There are many Symbolic messages that are all connected to Mrs. Wright throughout the play. From the beginning of the play, you know that Mrs. Wright is angry and depressed. So just like the fruit froze and broke so did Mrs. Wright. Throughout the play the question of whether Mrs. Wright was going to quilt it or knot it kept coming up. • 3. The Importance Of Western Imperialism In East Asia Eastern Superiority The most populated region in the world, number one in global manufacturing, East Asia is very prosperous. The prosperity comes from a long line of success in India and in China. Governments of both areas has been defending itself from western invaders. Some argue that east asia did not resist western imperialism;however others say East Asia was very effective at resisting western imperialism because the geography made the area hard to conquer. Furthermore for span of 3,000 years Easter Asia has prevented the western onslaught due to their advanced government. East Asia was mainly ruled through dynasties which had successfully driven away conquering armies, which caused proved successful in preventing western imperialism. From beginning of the chinese dynasties (Shang Qing) and the empires of India the governments of East Asia stressed the upkeep and strength of their armies. The Shang Dynasty was the first of many dynasties, they controlled Eastern Asia from 1766 to around 1122 BCE (Marsh). The shang ruled over a small piece of land and prevent invasions from the north. The government was a king with a close knit aristocracy, which lead to fast and efficient orders to be carried out. • 4. The Government s Energy Star Program EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES INTRODUCTION The federal government s energy star program was established in 1992 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and started in order to save businesses and families save money. This program has many companies investing in energy efficient projects to help boost the market. While promoting these products, the energy star program also helps to reduce energy consumption and pollution. Along with saving energy, it helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Reducing the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment surrounding them. This will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the emission of such gases and strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014). BODY High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs (Energy Star, 2014). These machines are front or top loading with a larger tub capacity. Families are able to wash fewer loads which enables them to use less water. Companies continue working on their models to save more money. Washers made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more than ten years old, you should look into purchasing a newer model (Energy Star, 2014). Washing machines did not earn the Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). When comparing the how much energy the models use, you need to look at the yellow EnergyGuide label. This tells you how much energy each load of laundry uses and the ... When you think of everything we do to protect our homes, families, and property with insurance, security alarms and locks, why do we not find more home sprinklers systems? The success of students would not be existent without special needs teachers. Special education teachers help students with disabilities fit in as best as they can by teaching them to do everyday things. These tasks can include brushing their teeth, going to the bathroom, and feeding themselves. Special education teachers put in a lot of work to create the best lifestyle for the students that they teach. Fourteen percent of the kids in the United States have special needs. Those fourteen percent need teachers to help them. Special Education requires a lot of education, daily work, tools, technology, and testing, but it is a very rewarding job. Special education can be a very confusing field and varies with the location and circumstances. Very few special education teachers work with students with severe disabilities ( Teachers Special Education 2). The majority of employees in the special education field work with mild to moderate disabilities (2). Most special education teachers work with students one on one in a normal classroom environment (2). Social habits is based upon the inaugurating ties, which are the information carrying connections between people. It has been established in Power of Habits, Charles Duhigg and other personal experiences that social habits are necessary for starting and boosting a movement. Taking references from Chapter eight (8) which discusses about American icon Rosa Parks, thrown into jail for her refusal to give up her seat on the Bus for a white man. This caused a civil rights crusade thereafter, giving rise to the boycott movements which main members include Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, Clifford Durr (Lawyer), E.D Nixon and Mrs. Nixon. This crusade was supported because of the ties Rosa Parks made by several people, as she was well known in the society, being deeply involved in the community. The boycott movement, used this incident to challenge the city s segregation laws and maintain equality between the white and black races. The movement did not start because Rosa Parks had several friends, it started because of what sociologists call weak ties . Charles Duhigg made us understand that weak ties are more significant than close friends in many ways because of the connections they have (friends of friends of friends). Towards the beginning tension is put in to play as the setting of film is in a small, un airconditioned room on a hot summer day. Throughout the film the jurors comment on the weather which effects certain juror s moods. Juror number 7 says This is the hottest day of the year. You d think they d at least air condition the place. The heat irritates and agitates most of the jurors, resulting in clashes of moods, further adding to the tension. Throughout the film the camera level goes from above eye level to eye level, increasing the tension by showcasing more reactions and emotions during intense scenes. The mise en scène when we first see the jury room creates a perfect setting for tension to build. In the room, we see very few props, which helps make the room seem small. The room has a table with 12 chairs, ashtrays on the table, a fan on the wall, 2 overhead key lights, a few books, papers and another small table. The jurors also can t leave until they either all decide to send an 18 year old to the electric chair, or free. The men are all wearing jackets, even though the weather is hot and the heat makes them sweaty and agitated. Many of the men are smoking, which might show they are agitated or anxious. The number of miles traveled by cars has risen nearly 150 percent, yet the United States population has only grown roughly 40 percent during that time (hybridcars.com, Driving Trends). I quickly discovered that this was doomed to failure; I could not keep time with the multitude of pulsing beats around me. I then tried putting the rhythm in my hands only, and backing my focus up to encompass the entire ensemble. The concept of polyrhythm as intertwined parts creating a complex whole finally clicked. My perception of the astsiagbekor suddenly shifted from individual parts surrounded by unrelated noise to an incredibly complex whole that needs every part to be complete. I find this system the most functional because it is a visual representation of pitch, rhythm, intervals, relativity, and how multiple parts line up. Indonesian gamelan uses a cipher notation. Each gamelan ensemble has its own unique tuning, so the pitched sounds of each instrument are assigned corresponding numbers. Cipher notation indicates pitch with numbers and rhythm with their spacing. I thought that this would be difficult to get used to. In reality, it was actually simple and easy to understand. This system places emphasis on the importance of listening to the ensemble rather than focusing only on one s individual part of the score because the other instruments indicate when and what to play. I enjoyed my experience with gamelan, the instruments are fun to play, the music is pleasant to hear, and the ensemble emphasizes a form of unity that can only be found in making music together. Increasing demand for import automobiles and the Energy Policy and Conservation Act served to be a real threat to the Ford Motor Company, American Motors, Chrysler Corporation, and General Motors. Out of these four manufacturers Chrysler was affected the worst by the industrial change, as they required a federal aid and required brand /management changes to revive themselves. Globalization formed a more competitive market in the United States during the 1970 s due to the changing emissions standards. The American Automotive Industry had to adjust to the new emissions standards from the Clean Air Act of 1970, and the fuel economy requirements of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, all while building cars that attracted to American consumers. These new requirements caused many Americans to lose their curb appeal for larger, higher output vehicles. The Japanese and European imports were lighter and more fuel efficient, so naturally they were better suited to meet new emission requirements. As a result imports took up 18% of cars sold in America, a share almost 20% higher than previous years, but none were actually made in America. In fact imports were so successful that Japan had to limit their import control to protect the U.S. Automotive industry while it recuperated. From women to gay rights but it is undeniable that the black civil rights was the bloodiest and most violent among them. Two methods were used to bring message to the people: the violent or the non violent way. Most activists and civil rights group like Martin Luther King Jr., NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) at that time chose for the latter but one did not follow that lead: the infamous Black Panthers Party. Each method had its effect on the history for the equality of African Americans. The majority of participants in the civil rights movement chose the non violent way. Within this path, individuals and groups took different approaches to the method. There were individual protests here and there. The prominent of the black civil rights movement began after the Brown vs. Board of Education decision where the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be constitutional. The court case brought notice to the world about the state of African Americans. Organized Civil Rights Movements went on the rise after that. People began to apply civil disobedience to achieve their goals. Rosa Parks, a prominent figure in the Movement, was famous for her action on one of her bus rides. • 29. An Analysis Of So Much Water So Close At Home In Carver s short story, So Much Water So Close to Home, three men go to Naches River for a fishing trip and encounter a dead young woman in the river. Aware that the corpse is in the river, they continue on with their fishing trip, not reporting it until they travel back home. Carver illustrates the story through the eyes of Claire, the wife of the fisher. Carver depicts the differences in male and female roles of a marriage and their psychological similarities, associated with why there was a need to travel to further waters, when there is So Much Water So Close to Home. Ordinarily, man is the provider and woman is the nurturer in a marriage. This is contrasted by the differences of Stuart and Claire s roles as husband and wife. Man s role in a home is to be a gatherer of not only physical labors but of answers. Claire is constantly seeking answers as to why her husband waited so long to report the corpse, but he contains no answers for her as he says you re going to get me riled, (76) making her findings of the truth qualities as the protector of the household. Their minds as husband and wife functioned separately and in no way correlated to be a whole as Claire became more consumed by the idea of the dead child. This consumption is relevant in the way Claire demands her husband to tell her where their son by asking where is he? Where is Dean? Duty to warn mandates mental health professionals to break client confidentiality when they believe their client may harm. The duty to warn became a law in 1974 when the California Supreme Court ruled that mental health professionals must have the duty to protect a victim if the therapist believes that not warning them would protect them, the therapist must notify the police or other authorities. There is a debate around duty to warn; many therapists feel that some threats may not be credible. Global conflict can with out a doubt be completely accredited to the human race, but what are the particular reasons for humans to cause such conflicts? There are many topics that have been argued by philosophers and historians over the connection between the reasons the human race and global conflict. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When looking at the specific numbers men are mostly the source of human violence, especially men age fifteen to twenty nine years of age, and there are many possible explanations for the reason why young men are the leading cause of violence. David Barash offers a possible starting point in which he asserts that men have always held the positions involving killing, or what might be called the killing establishment soldiers, executioners, even slaughterhouse workers is overwhelmingly male (Barash 1). When men could no longer play the hunter role, they still would have the urge or animalistic inclination to compete or kill one another, which leads to violence, hence; men began killing each other. This leads to gender division, which Carol Adams blames on the fact that the world has always been a patriarchial system. Men have established themselves as the dominant position in the human race, and because of this feeling of the need to be dominant there have been certain roles established for the way each gender should behave. As Michael CC Adams asserts, this gender division actually encourages male violence. War is a product of man according to Adams, and that in order to end war, we shall have to create an androgynous society in which being male does not mean a preoccupation with toughness and staying in control but includes the full range of openly expressed human feelings, ... • 32. The Sorites Paradox And The Epistemic View solution to it. The Sorites Paradox begins with the problem that if one looks at a vague term such as a heap, at what point is it no longer a heap if you keep taking grains of sand out of it. The same can be said for cattle, if one keeps removing cattle from a herd when will it no longer be a herd. The Sorites Paradox is paradoxical because all the premises appear to be true as well as the argument being valid (the conclusion really follows from the premises); yet the conclusion appears to be false. In which case there must be a problem with one of the premises in order for the conclusion to be false, however it is very difficult to see which premise is false. One proposed solution to the problem is the Epistemic view. There are two versions of the argument the many premise version and the two premise version. The keys steps in the many premise version of the Sorites Paradox are as follows: (MPS) (1) 1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap; (2) If 1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap, then 1,000,000 1 (= 999,999) grains of sand make a heap; So (3) 999,999 grains of sand make a heap. (Morris, 2016) The argument begins with 1,000,000 grains of sand which can obviously be seen as a heap. One grain of sand is subtracted each time e.g 1,000,000 1 = 999,999 grains of sand, with the conclusion following that 999,999 grains of sand make a heap. This seems a valid argument as the conclusion follows from the premises and it is clear that 999,999 grains of sand being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The And Chemical Properties Of Artificial Acids Abstract: In this experiment, we made an artificial ester called pentyl ethanoate, also known as pentyl acetate, and analyzed its physical and chemical properties. The method used in the experiment is an esterification reaction. We synthesized pentyl ethanoate by mixing equal amounts of 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid in the presence of a few drops of sulfuric acid, which is a strong acid catalyst. The mixture of the reactants was heated for ten minutes in a hot water bath at a temperature of sixty degrees Celsius and was given time to cool in a different beaker for five minutes. The product formed was a colorless, insoluble liquid that smelled like banana candy. Two minutes later, a reverse reaction had occurred and the aroma of banana changed to a marker smell. The pentyl ethanoate was on the surface of the water mixture while the sulfuric acid, ethanoic acid, and 1 pentanol were dissolved into the bottom of the water mixture. These findings helped us understand the importance of synthesizing esters, the physical and chemical properties of artificial esters, and how the esterification reaction between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid such as between 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid can form a pleasant banana aroma ester, such as pentyl ethanoate. Introduction: Esters are a class of organic compounds that contain a functional group with a carbon atom double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another. She is identical with the earth goddess in her powers, and she has got to realize this about herself. The boy does not have a happening of this kind, so he has to be turned into a man and voluntarily become a servant of something greater than himself. According to Anderson (n.d.), the Reconstruction Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although more blacks were becoming qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job demand shifted to industrial needs. For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a broader, more useful education was a beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary advocate for industrial training was Booker T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly that manual labor will be more beneficial to individuals because that was the type of work available (Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E. B. Du Bois. The courtly lady...possesses a curiously hybrid gender. While maintaining stereotypically female sexuality, she also holds, in principle at least, the status of a feudal lord. Burns statement insinuates a reversal of power dynamics between man and woman in the courtly love lyric, implying that the woman s stereotypical beauty and sexuality in courtship, is a gateway to subverting and overpowering the lovesick male, making her a superior lord. The Amour Courtois lyric is deemed inconsistent with the representation of woman as an empowered feudal lord due to the sheer objectification of femininity and beauty. Poets such as Geoffrey Chaucer and William Dunbar commend a woman s aesthetic appeal or satirise the lack of it, thus elevating medieval misogynistic expectations of physical beauty as a feminine necessity that objectifies women under the control of man s advances.
