Editor's Notes
- WHAT Provides academic enrichment for rising seventh through tenth grade Scholars. Curriculum includes: Writing Workshop, English Literature, Social Studies and Math. Scholars are also offered a choice between Spanish and French. In addition Scholars are offered a selection of extra-curricular activities. SEP also provides a forum for teacher-facilitated conversations on non-academic issues that affect Scholar success. WHY SEP is part of the array of services provided by the Support Services Department to facilitate the achievement of the organization’s goal of ensuring that every Steppingstone Scholar attends college. WHO Steppingstone Scholars entering grades 7-10 are eligible. SEP is best suited to Scholars who faced academic challenges during the school year.
- Hold a more full family, Scholars and faculty orientation, as well as a true closing. Schedule will change to accommodate offering an elective period twice a week as well as physical education. A class addressing non-academic issues (leadership, character, diversity) will be offered for each section, meeting 1-2 times per week. Include regular “Scholar Talks” assemblies, with Scholars signing up to deliver the addresses. Continue regular weekly faculty meetings with SEP teachers. SEP Scholars will have regular access to the computer lab.
