World War Two And Its Effect On The World
World War Two
World War Two began in 1939 and it when for six year, World War Two lasted until both the Germans
and the Japanese had surrendered in 1945, which was six years after it began. It began in September
1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded Poland. January
1933 Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and he immediately he secretly built up Germany s
army and weapons. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to build warships and
he created a German air force. Britain and France were aware of Germany preparing for war but they
were concerned about the rise of Communism and they thought that if Germany was stronger, it might
prevent the spread of Communism. In 1936 German troops entered Rhineland, they weren t very
strong at this point and they couldn t of been defeated easily by France or England but neither of them
were prepared for war. Germany s next step was to take back the land that was originally theirs and in
March 1938 German troops moved into Austria, the Austrian leader was forced to hold a vote to see if
Austria wanted to be apart of Germany. The voting results shows that were fixed and 99% of people
wanted to be in union with Germany. Austria looked for help from France and Britain and hitter
promised that it was the last of Germany spreading because he didn t want war. Hitler lied and in
March 1939 invaded Czechoslovakia. Despite the Czechoslovakian government asking for help either

Pros And Cons Of Hacking
Hacking is the process of attempting to gain or successfully gain, unauthorized access to computer
resources. Nowadays this technology has become a crime due to these aspects, we should not neglect
using the technologies for such criminal aspects, and instead we can use it in the better manner like
security purpose.
The Oxford English dictionary, states that there are three main definitions of hack in English: hacking
as cut with rough or heavy blows: hack off the dead branches, gain unauthorized access to data in a
computer: hacking private information from computers, and lastly a piece of computer code providing
a quick or inelegant solution to a particular problem: this hack doesn t work on machines that have a

Characteristics Of A Volleyball Player
Athletes; they are all talented, they all work hard, but to be a volleyball player it takes much more than
talent and hard work. Volleyball is the sport through which I am able to express my God given talents
of being an athlete. It is a sport which involves relating, pushing, and encouraging your teammates. It
has helped evolve me into the person I am today (David Beard). Volleyball players put so much into
the game that they put in their heart and their soul. It becomes your life. A volleyball player is unified
with her team, tenacious with the sport, and resilient throughout every game and every season. These
three characteristics are found in every great player and are key to this sport. Unification, it is one of,
if not the most important, characteristics of a volleyball player. Volleyball is a sport that needs its team
to be unified. The goal on the court is to score a point, you get that by getting a pass, a set, and then
finally a kill. It takes three people to accomplish this. All the while, the other three players are
covering or expecting the unexpected. Together, that s how you score a pint, that s how you win the
game, that s how you play volleyball. Being one as a team also takes trust. To play as a team you must
trust each other. You have to trust the girl beside you to get that dig. Without trust there is no way to be
banded together, and without unification a team will fail. I have seen (and been a part of) multiple
teams that have fallen apart

Essay about Bioterrorism
Bioterrorism Viral Hemorrhagic Fever
Abstract
Viral hemorrhagic fever is one of the most feared diseases of today s time. Although most people have
heard of anthrax, smallpox and the plague, viral hemorrhagic fever has become a potent weapon used
for bioterrorism, silently killing its victims and instilling fear in the rest of the population. Viral
hemorrhagic fever can be divided into 4 families. Although each family of viral hemorrhagic fever
may have some of its own unique characteristics, the four families are generally fairly similar
regarding the high fevers and hemorrhages they cause. Because of past outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic
fever, scientists have reason to believe that terrorists have easier access to the deadly viruses ... Show

The reason why the Ebola and Marburg viruses are grouped together is because they have similar
symptoms. The incubation period is about 1 week, which means it takes about 1 2 week for symptoms
to occur (Wener n.p.). The symptoms can range from something as mild as headaches and sore throats
to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which means clotting of the blood. Other symptoms
include fevers, arthritis, prostration, bleeding diathesis, thrombocytopenia and platelet dysfunction.
Some nonspecific clinical effects include nausea, pain in the stomach, diarrhea, encephalitis and
rashes (Schlossberg 53). Furthermore, viral hemorrhagic fever can potentially lead to neurologic,
hepatic, pulmonary, and renal disorders (Wener n.p.).
What makes Ebola such a serious disease is that fact that 90% of the people who are diagnosed with
this disease die, and the few surviving patients suffer from hair loss and sensory problems (Wener
n.p.). On the other hand, Marburg hemorrhagic fever has a 23 70% mortality rate. The history behind
the Marburg hemorrhagic fever helps explain why VHF is so dangerous to the public and can easily be
spread all across the globe. Marburg hemorrhagic fever was first discovered in 1967 in Marburg,
Germany when lab workers were contracted with the disease after handling imported monkeys from
Africa (Center for Disease Control n.p.). Because Ebola and Marburg hemorrhagic fever are both
zoonotic, they can be transmitted from

Crocs Research Paper
Crocs footwear Crocs, Inc., is indeed a Colorado creator of unique clogs that became popular for the
outdoor person in the late 1990s with both men, women, and children. These inexpensive shoes rely
on a proprietary resin material called Croslite. This helps produce a slip resistant and non marking
sole. The material also softens with body heat activation. This helps for molding the shoe to the foot
and providing a conforming fit. Crocs was meant for guys on boats and in other outdoor activities like
fishing and gardening, because the material of the shoe allows the foot to breathe. Crocs are also used
by working men and women who spend much time on their feet. For example, health care and
restaurant workers. Also, Crocs are widely considered

The s Secret Model By Cameron Russell
Victoria s Secret Model, Cameron Russell, delivered one of the most profound TED Talks delivered
on the Mid Atlantic stage, according to TED writer Cameron Gallo. The model explains that though
the modeling industry considered her a perfect, she does not believe her appearance defines her. Thus
she came up with the title for her speech, Looks Aren t Everything... Believe Me, I m a Model. . She
specifically addresses that children need to understand that modeling does not constitute a glamorous
career. The industry drowns out personal values, views, and appearances to warp these characteristics
into a general image accepted by the masses, according to Russell. She describes her view on
modeling, and how it essentially made her feel like a hard shell of a person with no inner value. She
ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward appearance and inner beauty.
Looks Aren t Everything.... Believe Me, I m a Model is categorized as TED talk. These talks are
powered by nonprofit organizations dedicated to spreading ideas, in the form of speeches,
demonstrations, and videos. Richard Saul Wormac, describes the talks as observations and recognition
of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design (Gallo 3). World
class speakers perform 18 20 minute presentations, within the three fields. Cameron Russell addresses
each individual field in her speech, not limiting herself to one specific category. Modeling developed a

Isolation In Sherwood Anderson s Adventure
In Sherwood Andersons Adventure explores the isolation of Alice Hindman through her overly
romanticized idea of love with Ned Currie. Alice devotes herself so completely to Ned Currie making
his love her one and only truth. Once Ned physically and emotionally fades out of Alice s life she
clings onto the possibility of his return. Alice becomes so absorbed in the possibility of Ned that she
cannot break out of the bubble she has created for her fantasy life. Alice s obsession with her fantasy
involving Ned coming to life sparks the creation of her isolation. Through her obsession with Ned,
and his connections to her youth and purity, Alice is unable to escape her isolated state. After Alice
and Ned have sex Alice believes that her body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alice runs through the rain because She thought that the rain would have some creative and wonderful
effect on her body. Not for years had she felt so full of youth and courage. She wanted to leap and run,
to cry out, to find some other lonely human and embrace him. (1435). In this section Alice finally
frees herself from her dependence on her ideas of youth and love. She imagines that the rain will allow
her to re experience her youth, and for a moment she does. Alice feels free and young, but still lonely.
Alice runs into an elderly man while she is on her naked escapade in the rain, and craves a connection
to him. Alice begins to ask him to wait for her. His responder to her is What? What say? (1435). The
inability for the man to hear Alice furthers her isolation. The one being that is out in the rain Alice
cannot communicate with. Alice becomes defeated by her adventure. In many ways the man becomes
a projection of Alice s future. He was the only other person out in the rain, and he was unable to free
Alice from her isolation. At the same time Alice could not free him of his own isolation. She and the
man are both alone, and although they are close enough to have a conversation, they are unable to.
This moment appears to capture Alice s belief that she will never be able to find a cure to her

This whole introduction to Senor Love Daddy is done in one long take/shot.
In the second scene shot one is the introduction to the character Smiley who is standing in front of a
church. At the begin of this scene, the camera is framing Smiley in an MS (Medium Shot) that is shot
from a low angle, with no camera movement. Stan Lee shot this scene at a low angle to bring attention
to the images that Smiley is holding. Still, at an MS (Medium Shot) Smiley stutters to perch/repeat the
words he s listening to on the tape player around his neck.
In the second scene shot two is a CU (Close up shot) of the images that Smiley is holding as he stands
in front of the church. Smiley within this close up shot takes a marker and draws a big red X by
Malcolm X and draws a big red crown diagonally above Martin Luther King. These image and Smiley
s character has a huge importance within this film, the images hint the overall importance of the Civil
Right symbols to the scene, as Smiley is unable to actuality pronounce their names (Martian Luther
King and Malcolm X) because of his stuttering, reflects the film s conflict in choosing between their
contrasting positions on the race relations.
In the second scene shot three, it returns to the camera framing Smiley in an MS (Medium Shot) that

Hyperactivity In Children Experiment Essay
This experiment is for kids between the age of four and six will be tested with a new drug to diminish
hyperactivity. In this experiment there should be three groups with three different ages: four years,
five years, and six years old. In each group there should be an equal number of girls and boy. For each
experimental group there will be a control group. Children will be chosen through arbitrary obligation
to be placed in the experimental group or the control group. The six groups will be placed in a kid

Some specimens of hyperactivity the mothers can chose from include extreme running, blaring,
jumping, agitation, etc. At the end of the experiment the parents will be asked to grade their children
on a scale of one to ten of hyperactivity, with one being less hyper and ten being more frenzied. Lastly,
the results will be put into two slabs. The first slab will be the control group with a sum of the scores
from before on one side and the sum from after on the other side (the same will be done for the
experimental group results). The greater the difference between the before scores and after scores will
allow for a valid conclusion. For example, if the total for the control group before the drug was 50 and
total after the drug were 29, the difference would be 21. If the same were done for the experimental
group with a score of 48 before the drug and a score of 16 after, the difference would be

Hans Asperger And Stereotypes Of Autism
1.2 Hans Asperger and Stereotypes of Autism
In the 1940 s, Hans Asperger, an Austrian pediatrician, observed children with autistic like behaviors
and social and communication challenges. These kids had normal intelligence as well as normal
language development. Asperger syndrome is a type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).
PDDs involve delays in the development of skills, mostly around social, communication, imagination,
and abstract thinking skills. Many experts argue that Asperger syndrome is a milder form of autism,
referred to today as high functioning autism spectrum disorder (HFASD). Asperger s work consisted
of a historical review of specific Autism case studies that were not representative of the entire
spectrum even though they were a great basis for the upcoming research in the field (Draaisma, 2009).
Unlike Asperger believed, it is not true that only males have the disorder. Yet, most of Asperger s
observations on autism are still relevant to the way autism is perceived today (Draaisma, 2009).
Most of the knowledge about autism among the general public is drawn from the representations of
autism in the media, such as novels, TV series, movies, or autobiographies. This is usually a
representation of an individual with autism who also has special abilities or talents. Unfortunately,
these examples of gifted individuals are not representative of the majority of this population and have
led to some misconceptions about the disorder.

Got His Gun By Dalton Trumbo And Ron Kovic s Johnny Got...
The typical country does not approve of citizens killing other beings, and yet the typical country
approves of war. War is the term for legalized mass murdering that is organized being that not all
countries can simply live in harmony with one another. Like most horrible things, it causes more
problems than it solves. The effects of this glorified engagement are demonstrated and analyzed
within the novels Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo and Born on the Fourth of July by Ron
Kovic. These two novels are the stories of two soldiers who went into two different wars that caused
them to deal with great change that would alter their lives forever. Even though these novels
accentuate the concept of soldier s overcoming obstacles, they moreso focus on the adversity of saying
goodbye, isolation, and sacrifice that many soldiers must deal with. To begin, both authors discuss the
hardships people must go through in order to become soldiers, especially that of having to leave
behind loved ones. In Dalton Trumbo s Johnny Got His Gun, he expresses and details the difficulty
that many soldiers must go through when he writes about Joe Bonham having to say goodbye to his
family and girlfriend. For example, in chapter three it states, Oh Joe Joe I don t want you to go. You
think I want to go? I m afraid. (Trumbo 34). In this quote, it is the day before Joe Bonham s departure,
and his girlfriend, Kareen, is expressing her fear in him leaving. This shows Bonham s determination

finished by his child Jahangir in 1612 A.D. who changed the initial design of his dad. Moreover,
planned on the model of a Buddhist Vihara, it is set in the focal point of a square garden. The nook
divider on every side has a portal. The core way has four white marble minarets in the four corners

Speech Is The Major Vehicle Of Human Communication
Introduction: Speech is the major vehicle of human communication through which ideas and thoughts
are conveyed by the speakers to the listeners. During this process, the conveyed message is heard,
understood and the meaning is extracted. Here, it is important to distinguish between Hearing,
Listening and Perception. Hearing is the sensation of sound. Sounds produced by a source are
transmitted through a medium and into the ears of the listener which converts vibrational energy into
neural impulses which travel to the brain. Listening is the act of paying attention to the spoken word,
not only in hearing symbols but also reacting with understanding. A person with normal hearing
sensitivity may have poor listening skills which may result in poor Speech Perception. Unlike hearing
which is an innate process, listening is an acquired skill. Perception involves identification,
categorization and integration of input from various sources so as to make sense from one s
environment. Interactions with one s environment provides information about how stimuli result in
different sensations in different modalities, meaningfulness of different stimuli and their relevance in
the environment. We organize perception and experiences into different categories thereby making it
easy to establish order in the world and by identifying relationships shared by elements in the
environment. It basically involves hearing, interpreting and comprehending all of the sounds produced
by a speaker.

Literary Techniques Used in the Memoir of Ishmael Beah, A...
In the memoir of Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Beah states that his life
s journey has been a huge obstacle, but has learned to overcome that struggle by venting while the two
contradictory sides continue their battling. Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the reader his
point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism. Ishmael Beah s
apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country men, in a country
where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. He is able to apply his purpose using a
grotesque and bitter tone. Beah approaches his audience of ordinary people in this manner in order to

Through Beah s use of questions, the reader is able ponder on the question as if Beah is asking the
questions to him or her. Secondly, Beah describes gruesome, fearful, and horrific times and scenes
with the help of scenic narration. For example, Beah says, I am pushing a rusty wheelbarrow in a town
where the air smells of blood and burnt flesh. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last
breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their
intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and
ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the rebels.
Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long Way Gone
is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on the ground, I
start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet holes. One bullet
has crushed the Adam s apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I lift the cloth from
the body s face. I am looking at my own. Beah shows powerful and visible emotion in the way he
describes this person. When he says that he is looking at his own, that makes the reader feel as if Beah
is describing a family member or a very loving friend. Although, the last portion of this quote is
emotional, Beah still describes gruesomeness the Adam s apple being

1.3 Definition
Urbanisation is the increase proportion of people living in towns and cities. It is the outcome of social,
economic and political developments that lead to urban concentration and growth of large cities,
changes in land use and transformation from rural to metropolitan pattern of organization and
governance.
Urban expansion is part of urbanisation. It is defined as low density residential and commercial
development on undeveloped land. (CEF, 2013)
1.4 Thesis
This report will address problems brought by rapid urban expansion, especially in Port au Prince and
Shanghai, with the direct impact on families and strategies to overcome the problems.

The United States And The Sharing Economy
The United States has serious labor market challenges as a result of rising wage inequality between
people and the slow middle class wage growth. The need to provide individuals with variety of goods,
service and information raise specific economic phenomena called sharing economy . This model of
economy includes different types of industry categories: sharing information (YouTube), property
(Airbnb), transportation (Uber) and more. The sharing economy works in the same way as a
traditional market, where individuals exchange different goods and service. The central concept of
sharing economy (collaborative consumption) is the access to the goods. The application of regulation
is the major issue with this type of innovated economy. The sharing economy is a nontraditional,
because the workers luck of benefits and the type of economical market system that creates an income
and job opportunity. On the other hand this type of market provides a different type of benefits as:
flexible schedule and employment; saving energy and less waste; self regulation; lower costs of the
product. The context is of a great interest since participation in sharing communities and services is
characterized by obligation to do good for other people and for the environment, such as sharing, and
engaging in sustainable behavior (Prothero et al, 2011). The challenge of any market includes and

Lab Report: Environmental Control of Sex Determination
Introduction
Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations, which
consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are important in
that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self fertilize. However,
some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life cycle of Ceratopteris
richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces haploid spores. These spores
then undergo mitosis to produce a haploid gametophyte, which can be either hermaphrodite(

Results The graph of our results showed the percentage of male gametophytes increasing and then
leveling off (Figure 1). This was our trend because most of the points followed this pattern, however;
there was a potential outlier at point (68, 32.3). The distribution of gametophytes on the culture plates
varied. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes, while plates D
and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. Plate E had clumping of gametophytes in
the top left corner and plate B had clumping the the bottom right corner.
Figure 1. The relationship between the population density and the percentage of male gametophytes.
Discussion
The prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would increase as the population density of
the gametophytes increased, and the prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would
decrease as the population density of the gametophytes increased were not supported by our results.
When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low
because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the
hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was
high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the
same reasons. The data from our results did support our

Yorktown Case Analysis Essays
Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS
Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis
Case Recap
Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish
industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago.
Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized
nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies commercializes a genetically modified fish
called GloFish, which appear to glow in the dark (Mueller, 2010). GloFish are zebrafish that have
been genetically modified with fluorescent colors. They are the first genetically modified animals to
become publicly available as pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms
(GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant to
approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and distribution
strategies.
Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically
modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three
colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011).
Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial
number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the
production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval of
Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish and
makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them.

Tension In The Crucible
On the 8th of October 2015, we visited the Royal Exchange Theatre; the largest theatre in the round in
Britain seating 750 people, situated in the centre of Manchester. We watched Arthur Miller s The
Crucible directed by Caroline Steinbeis. The original play was performed at the Martin Beck Theatre
and won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1953. Set designer, Max Jones managed to capture the
audience s attention immediately with his minimalistic but intriguing set design. Wooden poles stood
towering outside the stage, baring a striking resemblance to gallows in which women who were
accused of being witches were hung on in the 1600s. The prominent poles were used as a metaphor for
the constant reminder of death in Salem; this was further emphasized ... Show more content on

As Proctor made the decision to retract his confession water began to stream out from the centre of the
stage in which he was stood. This was a symbolic use of water to represent cleansing that he was
accepting the truth. For me, it symbolized that he was going to die an innocent man alongside with
Rebecca Nurse. I didn t think the use of water, as a special effect was relevant to the narrative; it
confused me, as it wasn t clear exactly why the water had any relevance to the plot. Alternatively, for
Elizabeth who was stood next to John trying to persuade him to confess so that he ll live, the water
could have represented devastation. Although she wasn t crying in the scene the flowing water was a
metaphor for her tears and told us about her inner emotion, which she was keeping enclosed as a
typical obedient Puritan wife. This made the audience feel deeply moved, as we were able to
understand the sacrifices Elizabeth was going

The Agony Of Rejection From Friends, Family, Schools, And...
By the time I was fourteen ... the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the rejection
slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and kept on writing. This quote from Stephan
King really hit me. The famous, successful man that we all know for his works Carrie or The Shining ,
had once been rejected. It s crazy to think that someone so successful had once been struggling.
Maybe I choose this quote because that s how I m feeling right now and the quote gives me some sort
of hope. Unsuccessful, down, rejected are a few words to describe it. The agony of rejection from
friends, family, schools, and jobs all contribute. There s the pain of boys denying you at my age, or
applying for a job that you never hear back from. The constant pressure to fit in with groups of girls in
sororities and the fear they will judge you. The pressure of school and the four tests coming up next
week along with the everlasting point to make your parents proud is a constant cycle in my life. These
all are reasons that brought my attention to Stephan King s quote. The thing is, he gives me hope for
the future. Hope. That s a strong word. It s not a promised outcome, or a permanent solution but it is
something. It is something to look forward to in the future and having a better outcome then before.
Stephan King may have been rejected from many schools and many jobs, but he decided to push
through and keep going and look where is he is now. That s what I have been

Booker T Washington Dbq
Two important figures in history who were well known for educating African Americans and who also
changed the way the U.S education system worked were Booker T. Washington who focused on
having education for real life jobs and not asking for equality from whites. He just focused on getting
help from whites and accepting their place on earth. And W.E.B. du bois who focused on the exact
opposite things that of booker t Washington. Du bois focused on a strategy called gradualist strategy.
The gradualist political strategy focused on blacks being book smart to get anywhere in life. Booker t
Washington was born April 5, 1856 into slavery by his mother Jane. Jane, booker, and his older
brother john were 3 of the six slaves working on a small farm. Booker s father was a local white
farmer. There isn t much to say about booker s father because a white man impregnating a black
women slave was not tolerated, especially not in the south. Because of that Jane guarded his identity.
The emancipation proclamation was the event which changed Booker T. Washington s fate, making it
possible for him to be free and get and education. Jane left the plantation with Booker and John. They

A Transgenic Lines
Three independent homozygous transgenic lines with significantly higher Os08g01480 expression
were selected for further characterization. In early stages of vegetative growth on
Soilrite, no phenotypic difference was observed in transgenic lines in comparison to WT.
However, there was clear difference in bolting time between WT and transgenic lines
(Supplementary Fig. S2). The visible changes in early plant growth between WT and transgenic lines
were analyzed through measuring root length after growth on ½ MS plates for 11 days. All the
transgenic lines showed significantly increased root length compared to
WT plants. To study whether increase in root length was due to early germination, germination rate of

At the same time, significantly lower (~25%, 20%, 40%, and

NT transgenic plants. (Fig. 1).
For salt and osmotic stress, WT and transgenic line were grown on NaCl (50 mM) and mannitol (150
mM) for 11 d. Root length of WT showed significant decrease (70%) as compared to transgenic line
(30% 50%) during salt stress as compared to NT; WT and transgenic seedlings, whereas in osmotic
stress, ~50% and up to 40% decrease was observed in WT and transgenic lines compared to NT; WT
and transgenic plants. It is concluded that in WT there was ~40% and 20% more reduction in case of
salt stress and osmotic stress respectively (Fig. 2).
For studying effect of cold and heat, after stratification seeds were kept at 20˚C and
37˚C respectively for 4 h and then transferred to control conditions. As much as ~60% and
40% decrease in root length of WT was noted during cold and heat stress, respectively when
compared to NT; WT plants, while ~25% and ~15% decrease of root length was recorded in
transgenic lines at time of heat and cold stress, respectively when compared to NT transgenic plants.
This result indicated ~40% and ~20% reduction in root length of WT compared to transgenic lines

Formal Analysis Of An Art Work Essay
Primary Research: Formal Analysis of an Art Work
The art work that I have chosen for this formal analysis of an art work is the Painter of Paestum s
piece titled Red figure lebes gamikos (marriage vessel) it was made with terracotta red clay. This piece
was made between 340 330 B.C. It is approximately 10 inches in height. The present location of this
art piece is at The San Antonio Museum of Art in the Greek Late Classical section. The collection is a
permanent collection from Gilbert M. and Denman, Jr. whose funds were used to purchase the vessel.
( San Antonio Museum of Art Wall Text ). These marriage vessels are frequently shown in marriage
scenes on Greek vases. This marriage vessel could have been given as a wedding gift or used to
contain water for the bride s bath before the wedding ceremony. Also, it could have been placed by the
bride s door and was possibly used in a ritual of sprinkling the bride with water before the wedding
ceremony. The Red figure lebes gamikos (marriage vessel) has an oval shape where it is narrow at the
lip, the neck and the foot of the vessel while the lip and body of the marriage vessel are round. The
marriage vessel contains two high looped handles and a lid with a very intricate knob which is a
smaller marriage vessel which has two small high looped handles and an open lip with no lid. The
stand for the smaller vessel is a conical stand on top of the knob. On the top of the lid, there is a figure

The Conflict Between Tradition And Western Influence On...
In 2014, Binyavanga Wainaina, a well known Kenyan author and journalist, wrote, There is no
country in the world with the diversity, confidence, talent and black pride like Nigeria. There is
certainly truth to these words. The west african country of Nigeria has proven itself to be a successful
and enduring land. As the English began exploring and colonizing the land grounded in tradition and
folklore, Nigeria effectively adapted and grew. Even when torn apart, Nigeria has pulled itself back
together and grown stronger. There are many aspects to Nigeria s culture that are worth considering.
But one aspect of Nigeria has proven itself to be rich, transformative, and long lasting: literature.
Nigeria has produced rich literature that shows the conflict between tradition and western influence as
well as dividing war. Further, Nigerian literature answers to this clash with a call to reconciliation and
balance of the two.
A brief look into the history of Nigeria would be beneficial before considering the literary culture and
history of the country. Nigeria contains the greatest amount of historical cultures and empires than any
other African country. The land is filled with a variety of peoples and tribes, such as the Fulani and the
Bornu, the Igbo people and the Yoruba people. In the early 19th century, the unique land began
attracting British explorers, Christian missionaries, activists, and traders. The British acquired the land

The Enzymatic Browning Of Apples
The Enzymatic Browning of Apples
Practical experiment:
The purpose of the experiment is to measure the level of browning, due to the effects of the enzyme
called polyphenol oxidase (phenolase), on apple slices exposed to different Ph. levels.
When exposed to oxygen the enzyme catalyzes the reaction creating melanins (brown pigments) on
the fruit. Soaking the apple slices in acetic acid, orange juice (ascorbic acid), tap water and calcium
carbonate (alkaline) will affect the rate in which the apple slices brown. The reduction of the browning
is dependent on the Ph. levels of the soaking solutions, also soaking the apple slice in water will
restrict the amount of oxygen that comes into contact with the apple thus temporarily inhibiting the
effects of the phenolase.
Understanding the Prac:
By peeling or cutting fruit and vegetables the enzymes that are stored within the plant cells are
released. When in the presence of oxygen the enzyme phenolase catalyzes the biochemical reaction of
converting phenolic compounds into melanins. Enzymatic browning occurs optimally between a PH
of 5.0 and 7.0.
Browning can also occur via the bruising or other injury to the plant tissue, exposing the enzyme to
oxygen. Although enzymatic browning is not always a defect, for instance it is required in the process
of making raisins, coffee, prunes and cocoa, it does however have significant effects on the fruits and
vegetables that do not require browning such as apples. Enzymatic browning not only

Evaluation Of Single Cylinder Direct Injection Essay
This paper presents exergetic evaluation of single cylinder direct injection, water cooled diesel engine
at varying operating conditions. Normally, first law of thermodynamics has been used to analyze the
engine cycle process. However recent research indicates that the first law of thermodynamics is
inadequate to study the diesel engine performance. Exergy analysis is used to determine in detail the
amounts of losses in a system and locations where they occur, and the processes that cause them so the
application of exergy analysis for diesel engine allows determining the sources of irreversibilities and
obtaining more accurate information about engine efficiency. An Exergy based performance analysis
is based on the second law of thermodynamics that overcomes the limitation of an energy based
analysis.
Consider the advantages of second law of thermodynamics over first law, this study includes exergy
analysis of single cylinder, 4 stroke, water cooled, on a single cylinder 8.1 kW direct injection, diesel
engine. In this study first and second laws of thermodynamics ae applied to analyze the quantity and
quality of energy in diesel engine cycle. The experimental data were collected using steady state test
condition which enables the accurate measurements of air, fuel, and cling water flow rates, engine
load, and all relevant temperatures. Each experiment was performed at five different speeds between
1300 rev/min and 2400 rev/min at intervals of 300 rev/min for five different

a great way to engage in personal growth. I have learned so much in this class alone about educational
technologies from this class alone, and I know there is still so much out there for me to learn about.

Essay about Causes of the French Revolution
The French Revolution was caused by many factors; some were significant and played a large role
while others were of minor consequence. France was one of the richest and most powerful nations
even though they were facing some economic difficulties. The French Revolution was a pivotal period
in the history of French, European and Western civilization. During this period of time there was the
formation of republicanism which replaced the absolute monarchy in France. Before the French
Revolution Louis XVI was in power, but in due time his old regime of absolute monarchy was brought

When prices got so high that peasants and other third estate citizens couldn t afford food there was an
inevitable uprising. The peasantry became a class with the ambition to counteract social inequity and
put a stop to escalating food prices. This unrest caused a riot, known as the bread riot, which became a
central cause to the French Revolution. Economics also played an important role in the French
Revolution. In France there was an abundance of debt and taxation. The French monarchy managed
their fiscal affairs by using an unequal system of taxation, borrowing money, or selling noble titles and
other privileges. This led to a long running fiscal debt. France could not solely rely on tariffs to
generate income. Although other countries had higher taxation rates, the burden on the common
people was greater in France. Peasants and other third estates were taxed harshly which in good times
was burdensome and in bad times it was devastating. Nobility and clergy were exempted from paying
taxes. This left the peasants, wage earners, and the professional and business classes with the burden
of taxes. This burden caused the unrest, which eventually led to the French Revolution. Many things
caused the French Revolution. I believe that absolutism and privilege, famine, and economics were
three of the most significant factors causing the French Revolution. These three elements led people to
be unhappy with the current government and want to overthrow it.

Memory Distortion Research Paper
INTRODUCTION
Over three decades of research on memory distortion leaves no doubt that memory can be altered with
the use of suggestive techniques (Loftus Pickrell, 1995). Such suggestive memory manipulation
procedures strongly encourage people to recall past happenings and have repeatedly been used to
create reccollections of events that never took place (Lynn, Lock, Loftus, Krackow Lilienfeld, 2003).
Elizabeth Loftus pioneered research into the effects of misleading suggestive information on memory,
(Loftus, 1979; Loftus, Miller Burns, 1978, Wells Loftus 1984) and since, , researchers have
successfully implanted memories of a wide variety of ficticious events through use of suggestive
questions and statements; eg that individuals spilled punch at a wedding (Hyman, Husband Billings,
1995), that they broke a window with their hand (Garry, Manning, Loftus Sherman, 1996; Heaps
Nash, 1999), or that they got lost before age 3 (Mazzoni, Loftus, Seitz Lynn, 1999), amongst many
others.
People are often astoundingly confident in their distorted or false memories, often going on to
describe the pseudomemories in substantial detail. Sometimes, the memories persist even ... Show

The Constitution And The American Constitution
When our founding fathers decided to separate from England, it was understood that they would have
to form their own government. Their first official form of government failed, but they learned from
their mistakes and promptly followed up by making quite possibly the most successful constitution
ever in 1776. To ensure that American citizens would enjoy their new freedom, our founders kept in
mind what John Locke had said in his An Essay Concerning Human Understanding life, liberty, and
property, by coining life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness into the final draft of the constitution.

more words (87,000) (Collier). The national constitution has never been replaced; however, it has been
amended twenty seven times. Texas s constitution has been replaced a total number of 5 times due to
how detailed it is. Depending on the era, a constitution may have certain rules which as time
progresses become more hurtful to its constituents. Only a century ago, women and people of color
had little to no rights as a human being. It took America, Land of the free , a little more than a century
to allow women to vote. It is obvious that the ability to amend a constitution is a valuable one. The
issue in Texas is that it has had a unique history and vast spread of land; therefore, it s constitution is
quite detailed. Texas was once its own republic, it was one of the later states to be admitted to the
United States, and that it occupies so much land that counties within its lines often differ drastically.
Texas first constitution was made in 1836, when it stood as a country, there were no lower units of

reside in the state, priests could not hold office (corruption in Mexico), slavery was legalized, and
slaves could not be freed without permission from the legislature. Those

Strengths
Uber has an extremely wide outreach with their business functioning across 60 countries, and
counting.
The tie up that Uber has with Paytm enables very easy payment on the go for most customers as they
do not have to have cash on them at the moment of the ride.
Uber, with their Paytm collaboration, has the possibility for a customer to share their bill with other

Weaknesses
Demand for Ola is increasing rapidly and despite being financially sound, catching up to this pace is
difficult.
Overall, the body language and demeanour of the drivers is not as polite as that of others in the
industry.
As in Uber, the pricing structure that fluctuates this much is not something that is taken well by
customers.
Their technology standards are not as strong as Uber.
Their promotions, although catching up, are not as strong as Uber s.
Opportunities
Their fleet size is very large but the vehicle quality has major scope for improvement.
Offer additional incentives for repeat customers to ensure they can retain their customers as well as

Oppression of Women in 19th Century Literature
In the stories The Jewelry by Guy de Maupassant, The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, and The

than the men in society. The duties of women during this time period did not consist of much more
than seeing to her husband s needs and caring for the home and children. The authors show the lack of
independence women were allowed in the 1800s, especially in marriage. The stories express women s
cry for equality and their feelings of entrapment in their marriage. Each story elaborates on the

she feels relieved more than she is upset. She knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind,
tender hands folded in death...but she saw beyond that bitter moment a long procession of years to
come that would belong to her absolutely (Booth 307). Her desire for freedom overcame the despair of
her husband s death. Chopin includes that Mrs. Mallard tried to fight off these ideas with her will
(Booth 307). Her embraced feelings of independence could have been viewed as forbidden. Although
she is excited by these thoughts, she tries to resist the pleasure she truly feels when she realizes the
freedom that she has gained. The words free, free, free! escaped from her mouth (Booth307). She
attempted to hold back the overwhelming desires for her own life. Perhaps she is hesitant to welcome
these feelings because of the public view on women s rights, and the potential consequences for those
who opposed such views. Despite the faithfulness and love Mrs. Mallard showed for her husband, the
extreme relief she felt in no longer having a marital obligation overpowered her feelings of sadness
and loss. At the end of the story, Mrs. Mallard s husband walked through her front door in the flesh,
but Mrs. Mallard s heart could not handle the excitement. The

Why Is The Catcher In The Rye Banned
Rationale: In Language and Literature, my class studied The Catcher in the Rye, a controversial novel
by J.D. Salinger. During the interactive oral, my group discussed the cultural context surrounding the
work and became aware that the book had an infamous history it had been banned in many schools
and libraries across America. Immoral statements, profanity of the language and discrimination topped
the list of reasons for the ban. An interesting point that stirred my curiosity was how the novel has
been implicated in the murder of John Lennon. The murderer, Mark David Chapman had been
influenced greatly by the novel. He was arrested at the scene of the murder clutching a copy of The
Catcher in the Rye so I have decided to explore the implications of this event in the form of a
newspaper article in the arts section of the New York Times published one week after this tragic event
on 15th December, 1980. A journalist for the New York Times, Les Ledbetter broke the news on the
front page on December 9th, 1980, the morning after the murder. I ve taken on the persona of Les
Ledbetter to promote a view that the book should have been banned with my goal being to convince
the readers of the New York Times that this view needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Salinger has inadvertently targeted the mentally troubled and Holden s first person narrative
draws them into his own existence through the subjectivity in content. Holden s audience can only
progress down a one way street into a world of alienation and introjection surrounding him, accepting
his view of it, When I was all set to go, when I had my bags and all, I stood for a while next to the
stairs and took a last look down the goddam corridor.... and then I yelled at the top of my goddam
voice, Sleep tight, ya morons! . Readers can only view Holden s world through his eyes and this is
inherently dangerous to the mentally ill who see Holden as their

Yankee Stadium Tragedy
The reason for the subsidies of these stadiums over recent years has been the incredible cost of
construction. There are over 100 various sports stadium in the U.S. with sixty four new major league
facilities alone have been built over a 16 year span beginning in the early 1990 s at a combined costs
of over $20 billion (Sanderson). One high profile example is of the new Yankee Stadium in New York:
The construction cost is expected to be around $1.3 billion... New York City is projected to spend
$220 million on infrastructure and various other improvements across the area (Robertson). The extra
expenditure is the type of costs that investors primarily like to argue as the reason for the subsidies.
Since the money is being spent on increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the time construction of a new stadium commences, construction jobs of all types have been
created, from welders to painters, from foremen to day laborers. Many of the workers needed for the
new construction projects are not local and will typically move temporarily or permanently into the
communities as construction can take years to complete. The moves can generate an increase in local
and state tax dollars from hotel lodging, home sales and spending on items necessary for daily living
such as clothing, food, gas and entertainment. When searching for funding for these stadiums and
workers to construct the project, many cities opt to subsidize the cost. Subsidizing is when the city
makes use of tax payer funds to help limit the private cost of the project. However, many economists
say that the subsidies are not beneficial to the average taxpayer. In spite of all of these economic
arguments, economists generally oppose subsidizing professional sports stadiums (Wolla). Many
economists agree that, Providing state and local subsidies to build stadiums for professional sports
teams is likely to cost the relevant taxpayers more than any

The Petition Of Lyddie In The Textile Mill
Young girls, working 13 hour days in dust filled, hot textile mills, just to get a wage and serve their
families. Lyddie is one of these girls and at just 14, she is one of the older girls in the factory. Lyddie
is a diligent hard worker and very independent. Lyddie is the mother figure of her family and her
closest friend, who was her brother, were both sent off to work. Lyddie started work at a tavern and
moved later to the Lowell mills for more money. Lyddie had a quick adjustment and the money began
to roll in. Lyddie was making $3 above board and she was quickly gaining money to pay off the debts
of the farm. Diana Goss, one of her friends at the factory, is circulating a petition for shorter working
hours. Lyddie is faced with the tough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Getting blacklisted would ruin Lyddie. She would have nowhere to go and would run out of money
quickly. Most in the corporation get released and blacklisted if they signed the petition. Lyddie s dear
friend faced the same situation and Lyddie tried to convince her Should you sign the petition Betsy,
they ll release you (91).Lyddie does not want Betsy to sign because she knows she ll get released and
this is even more of a problem if Lyddie signs. Another reason Lyddie cant sign the petition because
she ll get blacklisted comes from when Lyddie was sick coughing. During this part, Lyddie says They
ll bleed me of every penny I ve saved, between fits of coughing. If Lyddie where to get blacklisted,
she wouldn t make any more money and if god forbid she got sick, Lyddie would quickly lose her
money. Lyddie can t get blacklisted because she has nowhere to go to if she were to be released. This
proves that Lyddie can t sign the petition because she will be in a poor financial and living situation.
To summarize, Lyddie can t sign the petition because she ll be

Situational Analysis An audience with an ability to grasp concepts based on their college experience
and intelligence, I welcome my class members and my professor with amazing credentials to be able
to lead and teach this course. The title of the article is Paper beats plastic? How to rethink
environmental folklore written by Leyla Acaroglu. As you analyze life cycles, do you know someone
who plays a part of the system that affects our natural environment? How does a person know if there
actually reducing environmental impacts through their actions involving natural environment? There
must be a common ground when it comes to an effective analysis in order to get a clearer picture of
what effects the natural environment. Paper beats plastic, the fact that paper beats plastic can be
monitored in how our interactions affect life on earth. There is a financial gain when we accept that
plastic is a small amount used when creating plastic bags; paper is actually being used more than
plastic. What we produce and design in society can make a huge impact on the natural environment.
Individuals can gain knowledge and find ways to address complex situations in knowing how to make
better choices. Getting rid of plastic should not be an option. Paper usage can be good but not if were
throwing paper and plastic away in our garbage bins we are not helping our environment. Throwing

Differences In The Middle England And The New England...
In the early 1600 s, English people, attempting to escape the economic crisis that had plagued
England, began migrating to the Americas and establishing colonies. The New England colonies and
the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by populations of people of English origin. Despite
this similarity, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. The difference in the kind
of people that settled, the shared communal values, and the profitability of the land in these areas are
what shaped these regions into contrasting societies.
Understanding the types of people that settled these lands is essential to understanding why
differences in these societies emerged. The New England area was settled by large families for the ...

Being intent on maintaining this reputation, towns had homes placed relatively close to each other,
allowing neighbors to ensure each other s religious faithfulness as well. Overall, in the New England
area, settlers communal dedication to their faith built a unified, amicable community. In Chesapeake
however, the thirst for gold resulted in selfish ways from the very beginning. There was no talk...but
dig gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold . (History of Virginia, 1624) In the south, the focus was on
finding riches in order to become self sufficient. People were intent on getting more and more, and
thus the gap between the rich and the poor increased. This increasing gap as well as the unfair
advantages landowners had in society would lead to Bacon s Rebellion. Chesapeake s selfish ways
differed greatly from the union the New Englander s formed with each other because each community
valued different things. The shaping of these colonies does not stop and social factors however. Land
capabilities would also contribute to shaping these two areas differently. For the New Englanders,
massive plantations and mass crop production was not an option with their rocky soil. The inability to
use massive plots of land for crop production, contributed to the closeness of the New England
settlers. This closeness allowed for the establishment

Unconditional Positive Regard In Psychology Essay
Psychology is all about human minds and how people behave. Psychology today are more based on
social, lifespan development and personality. There are several parts of psychology, which individuals
are more likely to involvement such as, unconditional positive, conformity and personality parenting
styles. Unconditional positive regard is in roger s theory that based on the child s sense of being
unconditionally loved and valued even if a child, do not conform to the standards and expectation of
others. For example, when I was babysitting a child, I was able to disagree of child s specific behavior
without completely refusing the child himself. As a babysitter, I said to a child that I love her,
nevertheless I cannot do what she like because it is not good behavior. The reason that this is an
example of unconditional positive regard it is because the objectifying tendency is fully operational
and she makes selections that move her in the way of greater growth and fulfillment of potential.
According from Rogers, he believes that it is through consistent knowledge of unconditional positive
regard that one develop a psychologically healthy and fully functioning person. Moreover, this was the
only way which the child s vital sense of self worth can continue intact. Conformity is the tendency to
regulate one s behavior, attitudes, or beliefs to group norms in reply to real or imagined group
pressure. For instance, in fall 2016, I was taking a mathematic course and our professor

David Foster Wallace The Is Water Summary
One cannot truly change the world without first mastering the art of looking beyond oneself and into
the outside world. This idea of looking beyond oneself has been the focus of ancient and modern
philosophers throughout the world. In The Is Water (2005), a commencement address, David Foster
Wallace, a modern day philosopher, implies that people generally view the world from a selfish
perspective and elaborates on how the world should work to reverse its self centered ways. Wallace
reveals his topic through a series of anecdotes, each highlighting a different way we are focused on
ourselves and then providing a way to view each situation different perspectives. Wallace s purpose is
to point out the faults in thinking only for oneself in order to emphasize as well as open up to a
different ideology of thought but remaining to maintain a defensive approach without imposing his
views on his audience. Although the address was created for college graduates, his speech is able to
apply to a broader audience of readers and listeners today. Wallace employs a large expanse of literary
strategies in order to emphasize his main purpose. The most prominent of all of his strategies is his use
of anecdotes, dispersed generously throughout his speech. His most recognizable anecdote holds in it
the underlying truth that will be shared later on in his speech. Wallace begins with two young fish
swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them
and says, Morning, boys, how s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then
eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, What the hell is water? (Wallace 1). This
anecdote helps to ease the listener or reader into a comfortable mood to take on the powerful topic
discussed later, that peoples realities are often hard to see and talk about. Anecdotes can be found
scattered throughout the entire speech, though the first is the most recognizable, Wallace chooses to
use a more serious anecdote to convey the intense and serious tone of his topic. He tells of an average
day... you work hard for nine or ten hours, and at the end of the day you re tired, and you re stressed
out, and all you want is to go

Walt Disney World s Theme Parks Have Changed Their...
Walt Disney World s theme parks have recently changed their pricing strategy to demand based
pricing (Barnes, 2016). Demand based pricing is when consumer demand or perceived value is used to
set the price of the service or good (Boundless, 2017). Demand based pricing is well known for being
used in the hotel and airline industry. It was not until early 2016 when Disney decided to make the
switch to this as well (Sampson, 2016). Ticket prices now cost up to 20% more during holidays and
weekends (Barnes, 2016). Seasonal changes were also included, where peak tickets for visits during
December, Spring break, and July weekends come at a higher price (Barnes, 2016). A three tiered
system based on the date of the visit was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Direct and indirect competitive brands for pricing strategy
The anticipation of heightened demand dynamically affects admission price for theme parks. Walt
Disney World and Disneyland recently introduced variable pricing in 2016 so that park tickets will
cost more during holidays and peak period weekends. This only applies to one day tickets, and not
multi day packages. Disney s major competitor, Comcast s Universal Studios, has also adopted
demand based pricing. One difference though, is that their system provides incentives for visiting on
off peak days, and/or booking tickets online in advance. Guests can get $5 to $20 off the walk up
price, with the bigger discounts saved for midweek, low demand periods. A variety of other discounts,
packages, and promotions are available to guests that are all designed to bring down the per day
admissions cost for visitors, while simultaneously ensuring a longer stay for guests. A longer stay is a
win win situation because it means more money spent overall at theme parks, restaurants, hotels, and
gift shops.
SeaWorld has still struggled to bounce back after the loss of visitors from its killer whale controversy,
and the boom of expansions with its competitors. SeaWorld has very price sensitive customers. Disney
s customers are less price sensitive , said Robert Niles, editor of ThemeParkInsider.com (Pedicini,
2016). SeaWorld said it moved away from discounting too

Life, Liberty, And Pursuit Of Happiness In The Declaration...
The United States, one of the most powerful nations in the world, was founded less than two hundred
and fifty years ago. Since 1776, the year when the thirteen original colonies ratified the Constitution,
three cornerstone ideas have been the drivers of the country s progress Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of
Happiness. Found in the Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas Jefferson, these
three concepts have been crucial in the lives of all Americans throughout the existence of this nation.
Liberty, which includes personal and economic freedom, was the main reason why the colonies
decided to break away from the United Kingdom in the eighteenth century. The U.S. went through
many economic booms, various recessions, and several major economic depressions throughout its
history. Yet, here it is, mostly unscathed and in full glory, still dominating the world stage in economic
and foreign affairs. However, in the past two three decades, the economic conditions have changed
adversely, especially for the younger generations. It is an undeniable fact that the consumer and labor
markets have undergone tremendous adjustments, partly due to people s changing lifestyles, as well as
globalization. According to Janet Yellen , the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman s, statement to
Congress, the [country s] financial conditions have worsened and the United States economy has
become less supportive of growth in recent years (Web). The combination of these various factors and

It began in September 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded Poland. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to build warships and he created a German air force. In 1936 German troops entered Rhineland, they weren t very strong at this point and they couldn t of been defeated easily by France or England but neither of them were prepared for war. • 4. Characteristics Of A Volleyball Player Athletes; they are all talented, they all work hard, but to be a volleyball player it takes much more than talent and hard work. Volleyball is the sport through which I am able to express my God given talents of being an athlete. It is a sport which involves relating, pushing, and encouraging your teammates. It has helped evolve me into the person I am today (David Beard). Volleyball players put so much into the game that they put in their heart and their soul. It becomes your life. A volleyball player is unified with her team, tenacious with the sport, and resilient throughout every game and every season. These three characteristics are found in every great player and are key to this sport. Unification, it is one of, if not the most important, characteristics of a volleyball player. Volleyball is a sport that needs its team to be unified. The goal on the court is to score a point, you get that by getting a pass, a set, and then finally a kill. It takes three people to accomplish this. All the while, the other three players are covering or expecting the unexpected. Together, that s how you score a pint, that s how you win the game, that s how you play volleyball. Being one as a team also takes trust. To play as a team you must trust each other. You have to trust the girl beside you to get that dig. Without trust there is no way to be banded together, and without unification a team will fail. I have seen (and been a part of) multiple teams that have fallen apart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about Bioterrorism Bioterrorism Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Abstract Viral hemorrhagic fever is one of the most feared diseases of today s time. Although most people have heard of anthrax, smallpox and the plague, viral hemorrhagic fever has become a potent weapon used for bioterrorism, silently killing its victims and instilling fear in the rest of the population. Viral hemorrhagic fever can be divided into 4 families. Although each family of viral hemorrhagic fever may have some of its own unique characteristics, the four families are generally fairly similar regarding the high fevers and hemorrhages they cause. Because of past outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic fever, scientists have reason to believe that terrorists have easier access to the deadly viruses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why the Ebola and Marburg viruses are grouped together is because they have similar symptoms. The incubation period is about 1 week, which means it takes about 1 2 week for symptoms to occur (Wener n.p.). The symptoms can range from something as mild as headaches and sore throats to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which means clotting of the blood. Other symptoms include fevers, arthritis, prostration, bleeding diathesis, thrombocytopenia and platelet dysfunction. Some nonspecific clinical effects include nausea, pain in the stomach, diarrhea, encephalitis and rashes (Schlossberg 53). Furthermore, viral hemorrhagic fever can potentially lead to neurologic, hepatic, pulmonary, and renal disorders (Wener n.p.). What makes Ebola such a serious disease is that fact that 90% of the people who are diagnosed with this disease die, and the few surviving patients suffer from hair loss and sensory problems (Wener n.p.). On the other hand, Marburg hemorrhagic fever has a 23 70% mortality rate. The history behind the Marburg hemorrhagic fever helps explain why VHF is so dangerous to the public and can easily be spread all across the globe. Marburg hemorrhagic fever was first discovered in 1967 in Marburg, Germany when lab workers were contracted with the disease after handling imported monkeys from Africa (Center for Disease Control n.p.). Because Ebola and Marburg hemorrhagic fever are both zoonotic, they can be transmitted from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward appearance and inner beauty. Looks Aren t Everything.... Believe Me, I m a Model is categorized as TED talk. • 12. Hans Asperger And Stereotypes Of Autism 1.2 Hans Asperger and Stereotypes of Autism In the 1940 s, Hans Asperger, an Austrian pediatrician, observed children with autistic like behaviors and social and communication challenges. These kids had normal intelligence as well as normal language development. Asperger syndrome is a type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). PDDs involve delays in the development of skills, mostly around social, communication, imagination, and abstract thinking skills. Many experts argue that Asperger syndrome is a milder form of autism, referred to today as high functioning autism spectrum disorder (HFASD). Asperger s work consisted of a historical review of specific Autism case studies that were not representative of the entire spectrum even though they were a great basis for the upcoming research in the field (Draaisma, 2009). Unlike Asperger believed, it is not true that only males have the disorder. Yet, most of Asperger s observations on autism are still relevant to the way autism is perceived today (Draaisma, 2009). Most of the knowledge about autism among the general public is drawn from the representations of autism in the media, such as novels, TV series, movies, or autobiographies. This is usually a representation of an individual with autism who also has special abilities or talents. Unfortunately, these examples of gifted individuals are not representative of the majority of this population and have led to some misconceptions about the disorder. Asperger ... War is the term for legalized mass murdering that is organized being that not all countries can simply live in harmony with one another. Like most horrible things, it causes more problems than it solves. The effects of this glorified engagement are demonstrated and analyzed within the novels Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo and Born on the Fourth of July by Ron Kovic. These two novels are the stories of two soldiers who went into two different wars that caused them to deal with great change that would alter their lives forever. Even though these novels accentuate the concept of soldier s overcoming obstacles, they moreso focus on the adversity of saying goodbye, isolation, and sacrifice that many soldiers must deal with. To begin, both authors discuss the hardships people must go through in order to become soldiers, especially that of having to leave behind loved ones. In Dalton Trumbo s Johnny Got His Gun, he expresses and details the difficulty that many soldiers must go through when he writes about Joe Bonham having to say goodbye to his family and girlfriend. For example, in chapter three it states, Oh Joe Joe I don t want you to go. You think I want to go? I m afraid. (Trumbo 34). Speech Is The Major Vehicle Of Human Communication Introduction: Speech is the major vehicle of human communication through which ideas and thoughts are conveyed by the speakers to the listeners. During this process, the conveyed message is heard, understood and the meaning is extracted. Here, it is important to distinguish between Hearing, Listening and Perception. Hearing is the sensation of sound. Sounds produced by a source are transmitted through a medium and into the ears of the listener which converts vibrational energy into neural impulses which travel to the brain. Listening is the act of paying attention to the spoken word, not only in hearing symbols but also reacting with understanding. A person with normal hearing sensitivity may have poor listening skills which may result in poor Speech Perception. Unlike hearing which is an innate process, listening is an acquired skill. Perception involves identification, categorization and integration of input from various sources so as to make sense from one s environment. Interactions with one s environment provides information about how stimuli result in different sensations in different modalities, meaningfulness of different stimuli and their relevance in the environment. We organize perception and experiences into different categories thereby making it easy to establish order in the world and by identifying relationships shared by elements in the environment. It basically involves hearing, interpreting and comprehending all of the sounds produced by a speaker. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the memoir of Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Beah states that his life s journey has been a huge obstacle, but has learned to overcome that struggle by venting while the two contradictory sides continue their battling. Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the reader his point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism. Ishmael Beah s apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country men, in a country where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the rebels. Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long Way Gone is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on the ground, I start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet holes. One bullet has crushed the Adam s apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I lift the cloth from the body s face. It is the outcome of social, economic and political developments that lead to urban concentration and growth of large cities, changes in land use and transformation from rural to metropolitan pattern of organization and governance. Urban expansion is part of urbanisation. It is defined as low density residential and commercial development on undeveloped land. (CEF, 2013) 1.4 Thesis This report will address problems brought by rapid urban expansion, especially in Port au Prince and Shanghai, with the direct impact on families and strategies to overcome the problems. 2.0 Problems Impacts 2.1 Port au Prince The average annual rate of urban population change in Haiti is 2.4%. (World Urbanization Prospects: The 2014 Revision). Being the capital of Haiti, Port au Prince has experienced rapid urban expansion in recent years. However, problems in different aspects of life have aroused people s concerns. 2.1.1 Inequality: 40% of the total population in Haiti has access to less than 6% of the national income, whereas the richest Haitians (around 1%) control more than 26% of the aggregate property. • 18. The United States And The Sharing Economy The United States has serious labor market challenges as a result of rising wage inequality between people and the slow middle class wage growth. The need to provide individuals with variety of goods, service and information raise specific economic phenomena called sharing economy . This model of economy includes different types of industry categories: sharing information (YouTube), property (Airbnb), transportation (Uber) and more. The sharing economy works in the same way as a traditional market, where individuals exchange different goods and service. The central concept of sharing economy (collaborative consumption) is the access to the goods. The application of regulation is the major issue with this type of innovated economy. The sharing economy is a nontraditional, because the workers luck of benefits and the type of economical market system that creates an income and job opportunity. On the other hand this type of market provides a different type of benefits as: flexible schedule and employment; saving energy and less waste; self regulation; lower costs of the product. The context is of a great interest since participation in sharing communities and services is characterized by obligation to do good for other people and for the environment, such as sharing, and engaging in sustainable behavior (Prothero et al, 2011). Bio Term Essay Lard WEeduck Dr. Lerdkig Lab Report #2 November 9, 2011 Lab Report: Environmental Control of Sex Determination Introduction Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations, which consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are important in that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self fertilize. However, some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life cycle of Ceratopteris richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces haploid spores. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes, while plates D and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the same reasons. The data from our results did support our ... The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago. Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms (GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant to approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and distribution strategies. Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011). Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval of Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish and makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them. • 29. The Enzymatic Browning Of Apples The Enzymatic Browning of Apples Practical experiment: The purpose of the experiment is to measure the level of browning, due to the effects of the enzyme called polyphenol oxidase (phenolase), on apple slices exposed to different Ph. levels. When exposed to oxygen the enzyme catalyzes the reaction creating melanins (brown pigments) on the fruit. Soaking the apple slices in acetic acid, orange juice (ascorbic acid), tap water and calcium carbonate (alkaline) will affect the rate in which the apple slices brown. The reduction of the browning is dependent on the Ph. levels of the soaking solutions, also soaking the apple slice in water will restrict the amount of oxygen that comes into contact with the apple thus temporarily inhibiting the effects of the phenolase. Understanding the Prac: By peeling or cutting fruit and vegetables the enzymes that are stored within the plant cells are released. When in the presence of oxygen the enzyme phenolase catalyzes the biochemical reaction of converting phenolic compounds into melanins. Enzymatic browning occurs optimally between a PH of 5.0 and 7.0. Browning can also occur via the bruising or other injury to the plant tissue, exposing the enzyme to oxygen. Although enzymatic browning is not always a defect, for instance it is required in the process of making raisins, coffee, prunes and cocoa, it does however have significant effects on the fruits and vegetables that do not require browning such as apples. Normally, first law of thermodynamics has been used to analyze the engine cycle process. However recent research indicates that the first law of thermodynamics is inadequate to study the diesel engine performance. Exergy analysis is used to determine in detail the amounts of losses in a system and locations where they occur, and the processes that cause them so the application of exergy analysis for diesel engine allows determining the sources of irreversibilities and obtaining more accurate information about engine efficiency. An Exergy based performance analysis is based on the second law of thermodynamics that overcomes the limitation of an energy based analysis. The peasantry became a class with the ambition to counteract social inequity and put a stop to escalating food prices. This unrest caused a riot, known as the bread riot, which became a central cause to the French Revolution. Economics also played an important role in the French Revolution. In France there was an abundance of debt and taxation. The French monarchy managed their fiscal affairs by using an unequal system of taxation, borrowing money, or selling noble titles and other privileges. This led to a long running fiscal debt. France could not solely rely on tariffs to generate income. Although other countries had higher taxation rates, the burden on the common people was greater in France. Peasants and other third estates were taxed harshly which in good times was burdensome and in bad times it was devastating. Nobility and clergy were exempted from paying taxes. This left the peasants, wage earners, and the professional and business classes with the burden of taxes. This burden caused the unrest, which eventually led to the French Revolution. It also meant that school was getting ready to start back up and I would be fresh meat as everybody call the new upcoming freshman. I was excited to be around new people in a new environment from middle school. Also a little nervous but who wouldn t be nervous starting high school. I was ready to be on the sideline at games cheering the team on, going to the different pap rally s, basketball games, and just everything high school had to offer for me. I made a promise to myself that I would be an active student throughout my four years there, and I m going to do just that. Me and Lenzie worked things out we told each other how we felt and what we could do to improve our friendship before letting outsiders in. I was half that we could sit down and talk things out I didn t want to lose someone that know literally everything about me. We both made the junior varsity sideline cheer team but our games were on Thursday s so we could get dressed up to go see varsity on Fridays. I called Lenzie to see what she was wearing to the game and ask her for her opinion on what she think went together. I don t know why but I just felt that I needed to be really cute tonight. Maybe I will find my high school sweetheart tonight who knows. She told me she was wearing a skirt and a pretty top that she had ordered we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their first official form of government failed, but they learned from their mistakes and promptly followed up by making quite possibly the most successful constitution ever in 1776. To ensure that American citizens would enjoy their new freedom, our founders kept in mind what John Locke had said in his An Essay Concerning Human Understanding life, liberty, and property, by coining life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness into the final draft of the constitution. It is obvious that the ability to amend a constitution is a valuable one. The issue in Texas is that it has had a unique history and vast spread of land; therefore, it s constitution is quite detailed. Texas was once its own republic, it was one of the later states to be admitted to the United States, and that it occupies so much land that counties within its lines often differ drastically. The duties of women during this time period did not consist of much more than seeing to her husband s needs and caring for the home and children. The authors show the lack of independence women were allowed in the 1800s, especially in marriage. The stories express women s cry for equality and their feelings of entrapment in their marriage. During the interactive oral, my group discussed the cultural context surrounding the work and became aware that the book had an infamous history it had been banned in many schools and libraries across America. The moves can generate an increase in local and state tax dollars from hotel lodging, home sales and spending on items necessary for daily living such as clothing, food, gas and entertainment. When searching for funding for these stadiums and workers to construct the project, many cities opt to subsidize the cost. Subsidizing is when the city makes use of tax payer funds to help limit the private cost of the project. However, many economists say that the subsidies are not beneficial to the average taxpayer. There are several parts of psychology, which individuals are more likely to involvement such as, unconditional positive, conformity and personality parenting styles. Unconditional positive regard is in roger s theory that based on the child s sense of being unconditionally loved and valued even if a child, do not conform to the standards and expectation of others. For example, when I was babysitting a child, I was able to disagree of child s specific behavior without completely refusing the child himself. As a babysitter, I said to a child that I love her, nevertheless I cannot do what she like because it is not good behavior. The reason that this is an example of unconditional positive regard it is because the objectifying tendency is fully operational and she makes selections that move her in the way of greater growth and fulfillment of potential. According from Rogers, he believes that it is through consistent knowledge of unconditional positive regard that one develop a psychologically healthy and fully functioning person. • 49. David Foster Wallace The Is Water Summary One cannot truly change the world without first mastering the art of looking beyond oneself and into the outside world. This idea of looking beyond oneself has been the focus of ancient and modern philosophers throughout the world. In The Is Water (2005), a commencement address, David Foster Wallace, a modern day philosopher, implies that people generally view the world from a selfish perspective and elaborates on how the world should work to reverse its self centered ways. Wallace reveals his topic through a series of anecdotes, each highlighting a different way we are focused on ourselves and then providing a way to view each situation different perspectives. Wallace s purpose is to point out the faults in thinking only for oneself in order to emphasize as well as open up to a different ideology of thought but remaining to maintain a defensive approach without imposing his views on his audience. Although the address was created for college graduates, his speech is able to apply to a broader audience of readers and listeners today. Wallace employs a large expanse of literary strategies in order to emphasize his main purpose. The most prominent of all of his strategies is his use of anecdotes, dispersed generously throughout his speech. His most recognizable anecdote holds in it the underlying truth that will be shared later on in his speech. Wallace begins with two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, Morning, boys, how s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, What the hell is water? (Wallace 1). This anecdote helps to ease the listener or reader into a comfortable mood to take on the powerful topic discussed later, that peoples realities are often hard to see and talk about. Anecdotes can be found scattered throughout the entire speech, though the first is the most recognizable, Wallace chooses to use a more serious anecdote to convey the intense and serious tone of his topic. He tells of an average day... you work hard for nine or ten hours, and at the end of the day you re tired, and you re stressed out, and all you want is to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Direct and indirect competitive brands for pricing strategy The anticipation of heightened demand dynamically affects admission price for theme parks. Walt Disney World and Disneyland recently introduced variable pricing in 2016 so that park tickets will cost more during holidays and peak period weekends. This only applies to one day tickets, and not multi day packages. Disney s major competitor, Comcast s Universal Studios, has also adopted demand based pricing. One difference though, is that their system provides incentives for visiting on off peak days, and/or booking tickets online in advance. Guests can get $5 to $20 off the walk up price, with the bigger discounts saved for midweek, low demand periods. A variety of other discounts, packages, and promotions are available to guests that are all designed to bring down the per day admissions cost for visitors, while simultaneously ensuring a longer stay for guests.
