The Worst Sort Of Husband By Daniel Defoe
The Worst Sort of Husband Daniel Defoe
The Worst Sort of Husband by Daniel Defoe was written to explain the different types of husbands
women deal with and their personalities. This analysis goes in depth on how diverse husbands can
be. There are five different husbands described in the analysis: the Drunken Husband, the
Debauched Husband, the Fighting Husband, and the Extravagant Husband. Each husband
described was a male s point of view of men for a sober woman s knowledge on who she wants to
marry. The author, Daniel Defoe was an English writer that lived in the 1700s. Daniel Defoe did
not always have this name because he changed his name to something that he personally thought
was professional. Defoe wanted his name to sound more like a gentleman s name and that is the
name he chose. Defoe was a very famous writer in the 1700s in London, England and was
acknowledged by all his written work. Personally, I believe Daniel Defoe wrote this article out of
humor, but I m also not sure of what exactly people thought was humorous in the 1700s. If not
humorous, this article was meant to be informational for woman. ... Show more content on

I m sure the audience was broad, being that Defoe was a popular writer but focusing more on
women. This article was written because of a conversation that Defoe had with a former lady. He
says that this question intrigued him to write about it. The question was, What is the worst sort of
husband a sober woman can marry? . Children, males, and elders are the excluded audience of this
article about husbands. Children have yet to get married, men aren t necessarily interested in
finding the worst sort of husband, and elders are either already married or most likely not
interested in marrying at such an old

A complex between crystal violet and iodine (CV I) is formed within the cell. The structure that
determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and
Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of
peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to
trap the purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the
Gram staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin
peptidoglycan layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located
between the plasma membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this
outer layer is dissolved during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex,
hence the pink safranin counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram
staining allows us to observe the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For
Bacillus cereus, endospores were also viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram
staining, the most crucial step in determining the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step.
If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in
peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied for 30 seconds

African, Medieval Kingdom Of Mali, Questions And Answers
1. Were you surprised by anything you read in the sources on the African, medieval kingdom of
Mali? I was surprised by how big the Mali Empire was, and how many people lived in the land
(roughly size of western Europe, 50 million people). I was also surprised by how rich Mansa Musa
was so rich that 500 slaves could go before him caring golden staffs that were four pounds!
2. As the people of medical West Africadid not generally record information through their own
written language, how do you think historians know so much about Mali? A lot of the information
known about the Mali Empire probably came from foreigners that visited a few of over 400 cities
in the Mali Empire. Since Mansa Musa built large scale projects, like palaces in Timbuktu and
Gao, architectural scholars and enthusiasts most likely visited them, and left detailed records.
Simerly, Musa also promoted education, as he built a university. Because of this, foreigners would
have come to the Mali Empire to study. During their stay, the students would also have written
about the empire. Finally, traders would have also have helped historians learn about the Mali
Empire. By recording what items were traded, and how much of each item was traded, historians
would know about the wealth of Mali. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the sources you have read thus far, what role does trade appear to play in cultural and
economic progress in the civilizations you encountered in these readings and perhaps in those you
studied in the 8th grade? In most cases, trade provides wealth to the region, which in turn stabilizes
and fortifies it. With the security the region has, the people start to flourish, and arts, learning and
technology grow. For example, when trade started to flourish in Europe, towns were established,
new farming techniques were discovered and people could start to specialize in jobs other than
farming. Also Venice, Marco Polo s hometown, was established, and also flourished, because of

Integrated Project Delivery Paper
Integrated Project Delivery or IDP is a one of the newest project delivery methods in the US
construction industry. This method focusses on the collaboration of all the parties involved during
the entire process of construction. As all the teams work together, the risks, liabilities, incentives
and responsibilities are equally shared by everyone. Even associates having more than 5% of share
in the total cost of the construction project are equally liable as any other members of the entire
group.
Building Information Modelling or BIM is usage of various soft wares which are flexible, highly
detailed, contain extensive data and can efficiently help in simulation the activities of construction.
This simulation can be rendered in various dimensions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps in making the project extremely cost and time effective. The construction manager can
provide design timelines to all the participating members of the project. Once the designs are ready,
the design conflicts can be solved in group meetings. The traditional method of construction is
inefficient in this matter as the problems in design will be faced on site and corrections to this can
be extremely costly and inefficient.
IDP is a signed contract between all the participating parties. Therefore, the BIM designs can work
as legal documents if any issues arise. The amount of importance given to these drawings and other
policies can be decided in group meeting of the various parties. This helps in making the contract
clearer. Also, the designers can copyright or have mutual understandings between the constructors
regarding the sharing of their designs with any third party or using the designs in any future

Frankle Concepts. Victor Frankle Professional Practice
Frankle Concepts Victor Frankle professional practice lies within therapy, where his ideas and
practice have aligned with philosophical thought (Batthyany, n.d.). One of Frankl most well know
through was which he believed that common anxieties could be overcome by finding meaning, no
matter how small. Today, his therapy, now termed Logotherapy

consist of three components: commitment, control, and challenge (Lambert, Clinton, Vickie, 1999,

they react to situations. Challenge refers to individual s attitude toward challenge and change.
Maddi found that individuals who were resistance to change, and did not embrace challenge had
lower levels of hardiness. Lastly, commitment, which refers to individuals sense of purpose and

important implication of high levels of hardiness, specifically in work or stressful situations,

The On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Discrimination...
Rationale
According to the latest concluding observations of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), article 14 of Maternal Health Act 1948 is problematic
since it states that [t]he women are required to get content from their spouses in order to obtain an
abortion (CEDAW, 2016, para. 38 (b)). However, the actual description in it is a doctor may
perform an Induced Abortion on a person who falls under any of the following items after obtaining
consent from the relevant person and the spouse (Maternal Health Act 1948, Art. 14 (1)). In other
words, it does not regulate the women to obtain their spouses contents, but it states that a doctor has

Then I will analyze the current Japanese situation by using various literatures, not only works of
feminist scholars such as Petchesky (1985) and Norgen (2001), but also works of cultural
anthropologist scholars such as Burnlund (1989). As Okin argues, even though Japan has a
different cultural background from other developed countries, especially Western countries,
cultural exception should not be adopted (1998, p.38). I agree on her argument, therefore, I do not
intend to discuss that the conclusion of CEDAW ignores the Japanese cultural character, and it is
wrong or inadequate. However, to understand the problem and its background, analysing it within
the framework of culture might be still necessary. In addition to the works from those scholars, I
am also using research data of contraceptive use in Japan as it seems to be remarkably unique
among developed countries (Sato et al, 2006).
Structure
My research begins with a summary of the international movement toward recognition of abortion
as a women s human right. Article 98 (2) of Constitution of Japan 1947 states that [t]he treaties
concluded by Japan and established laws of nations shall be faithfully observed . Hence, it can be
said that to understand how international law regulates abortion and modify current Japanese act to
align with it are necessary. Although Tozzi introduces [n]o global UN treaty contains the word
abortion, nor can a right to abortion be inferred from

Tourism Is A Key Pillar Of New Zealand s Economy
Tourism is a key pillar of New Zealand s economy. The tourism industry in New Zealand
contributes to nearly 3.7% of the country s gross domestic product. Though a key pillar of the
economy, it is also raised a lot of problem in its environment. Tourism is gradually damaging the
environment of New Zealand and it has raised an alarm for the country to consider its pillar sector.
New Zealand has magnificent sceneries such as the Mt. Victoria, the Fiordland National Park, The
Southern Lakes and the Expansive national museum. This essay endeavors to ascertain that tourism
in New Zealand is causing environmental issues in the country.
Discussion
Tourism has adversely affected the environment of New Zealand in the following ways: its
biggest impact is on the loss of quality land. Some of New Zealand s unhampered natural
environments are experiencing human interference in their natural setting. Some environments
such as in the Fiordland National Park the tall tussock grassland is slowly degrading. Only a
small percentage of 10% of this grassland that existed is present. This grassland has slowly been
degraded since 1984. Through the reduction in grassland covered areas in New Zealand leads to a
lot of soil erosion. Soil erosion leads to the loss of rich nutrients that help improve the environment.
Soil erosion leads to desertification in the land. Reduced soil fertility has a direct impact on the
produce of the environment and farming. Deteriorated soil further leads to the

Dimond (2009) and NHS choices (2016) explained consent as the process involving a person
giving their approval to accept or refuse a treatment or interventions, after receiving detailed
information from a health care professional about the risk or benefits of the procedure. In order for
consent to be deemed valid, it needs to be given voluntarily without any influence or pressure from
either a family member or clinician. In addition, the capacity of the person is important when giving
consent and the ability to process the given information and make a decision. Tingle Cribb (2014)

The Themes Of Fate And Fate In Oedipus The King
Destiny and fate both play a similar role in this play. These are two crucial themes that are central
to the play; they have a devastating impact on the story line and unleash terror on the characters.
Fate is one of the opposition elements of the play that is influenced by one s own action but
ultimately is dictated by events beyond anybody s control. By elevating the importance of fate,
Sophoclessuggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions, but instead, they are
unaware that their destinyis controlled by a supreme power. These two main themes cause tragedy
and despair to many characters, however, the most affected one is King Oedipus.

His destiny decided by the God s is particularly cruel and pitiless since the oracle of Delphi
decided that his fate was to kill his father and marry his mother. An ancient Greek audience
would accept the wisdom of the gods. However, Sophocles skill as a playwright is to challenge
the ancient Greek received wisdom: even though Oedipus ought to accept his destiny because of
some heinous sin committed by his forefathers, he inspires sympathy in the audience by using
dramatic irony. Oedipus dire warning as he imposes on himself the penalty of exile: severe
sentence // will be exile shows the reader that Oedipus is ignorant of the fact that he is the guilty
one and that therefore he is inadvertently condemning his own future and his own life. Also, the
quotation I curse him is another example of dramatic irony since the King is unaware that he is
cursing himself and consequently, putting at risk and at danger his own future. This again shows
the strength of the God s who are able to arrange and decide people s destiny. Later on the play, the
audience discover him as being blind since he does not manage to see the truth about himself.
Therefore, this makes him exposed and vulnerable to his unknown and unwanted devastating
destiny. Sophocles uses the quote: For blind of seeing to show that Oedipus frequently

established in the early 17th century. It was told by the lead Archaeologist of the Jamestown

Kelso tells the journey of this twelve year project of discovering Jamestownin preparation for the

As a result a week later they engaged in warfare with them. On May 27, 1607 a battle broke out
between the English and about two hundred natives in which eleven English men died. This
incident unfortunately forecasts the tragic future of Euro American Native American Relations
(Kelso 2006:16). Not only was this a traumatic time for the English it was also a wake up call to
further fortified the camp and to be enclosed with palisades. According to George Percy James
Fort was complete on June 15th in a triangular shape of about two acres with three bulwarks. This
was not an easy task for these men.
They had to dig a nine hundred foot trench, along with cutting down and hauling tree that could
have easily have weight about eight hundred pounds all while having Native Americans shooting at
them (Kelso 2006:16). It is thought that the Virginia Indians played a role in the location and
survival of Jamestown. The English were in Powhatan s territory, and the island had a natural
defense from their enemies making it the safest place to be, even if it was not a geographically
ideal location. Powhatan was considered one of the most powerful chiefs claiming to have over a
hundred children. Powhatan died in 1618 and his brother, Opechancanough led an attack on the
English in 1622 and 1644. Pocahontas would befriend John Smith and marry John Rolfe in 1613

Angle Analysis Lab Report
The table shows me that Image E gives a very accurate value, correct to the nearest thirty seconds
and meaning my precision in calculating angles has achieved an average (mean) between 0.1 and
0.2 degrees from the true value. The range (difference between small and largest values) is also
less that 5% of the average result, suggesting that my anglecalculations with different star trails
produced repeatable results.
However, Image D is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum, giving a value wildly out by
over 14 hours when minute precision is required. This margin of difference is so large that it
cannot possibly be caused by measurement errors of the angles, as using the known value for the

based on three images, a small sample size and an unfortunately anecdotal suggestion. However, it
would be an extension to see if a repeat of the observation produced the greatest accuracy with
interval timer photography images a second time round, which would suggest that the most

The Power of the Family in White Noise Essay examples
The Power of the Family in White Noise
Don Dellilo s protagonist in his novel White Noise, Jack Gladney, has a nuclear family that is,
ostensibly, a prime example of the disjointed nature way of the family of the 80 s and 90 s what
with Jack s multiple past marriages and the fact that his children aren t all related. It s basically the
antipodal image of the 1950 s nuclear family. Despite this surface level disjointedness, it is his
family and the extrasensory rapport that he shares with them allows Jack to survive in his world.
Murray, Jack s friend, argues that The family is strongest where objective realityis most likely to be

So in recounting the smell of panties etc., and viewing such encounters with either irony, sympathy
and fond amusement, Jack is able not only to affirm the present and escape the past, but
accomplishes something much larger: namely the ability to affirm the realness of such feelings.
Thus the family, in this instance Babette, serves as the medium through which Jack is able to
overcome Heinrich s skepticism (which is representative of modern science (24)) as to the reality of
human emotions. DeLillo s image, moreover, of Jack and Babette rescuing themselves from the
past also suggests that without family or someone to commune with, man can become lost in the
past.
DeLillo s novel is almost obsessively concerned with appliances: TVs, radios, microwaves etc.
They are omnipresent, not only in the characters worlds but within the narrative itself. DeLillo
repeatedly interrupts his narrative with sentences like The TV said: And other trends that could
dramatically impact our portfolio (61) or MasterCard, Visa, American Express (100) or That
chirping sound was just the radiator (94). Just as Jack s world is one suffused with such objects,
so too is the narrative, a technique which DeLillo uses to force the reader into Jack Gladney s
world. Objects play a dualistic role in Jack s familial life. Jack tells us that

Dunkirk, the Battle of Midway, the fall of the Alamo, the War of 1812 and the enrollment of James

Mr. Lord s writing technique, said Stanley Walker, reviewing A Night to Rememberin the Book

What Is Airport Security Setting

president started to get concerned about the people s safety in America. So they decide to heavy

same range of products. Glanbia s Global Performance Nutritionbusiness comprises of three global
brands Optimum Nutrition, BSN and Isopure. What Glanbia s GPN business has done
effectively, since acquiring the companies, is it has created a strong brand image globally which
means it can offer higher prices for its products compared to weaker smaller companies. As there
is a huge growth in this market, GPN are able to grow and expand their business globally without
taking markets away from other competitors. Traditionally Glanbia s products were perishable

Nitration of Methyl Benzoate
NITRATION
OF
METHYL
BENZOATE

 Purpose:
The main objective
of this experiment was to synthesize methyl nitrobenzoate from methyl benzoate, using the mixture
of nitric and sulfuric acid by performing the process of electrophillic aromatic substitution. During
this reaction, the combination of HNO3 and H2SO4 made a nitrating solution. The crystallization
was done to accomplish pure product. The melting point and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)
were performed to test the purity of the product. Using the methyl benzoate reaction product,
methyl nitrobenzoate, one can determine the meta substituted, para substituted and orthosubstituted
of the final products. Furthermore, HNMR and IR used to investigate the quality of the product....

This would indicate that during the recrystallization there was a reduction in the percentage yield
of the production. The obtained final product melting point rang was 76.2 780C. This would
show that the experimental melting point was very close to the literature value of 78 80В°C
which denotes the meta substituted of the product. So, the analysis of the melting point confirmed
that the product was methyl meta nitrobenzoate as it was anticipated. Additionally, use of the
melting point analysis shows that NO2 group could be added to the methyl benzoate at the meta
position successfully. The ortho and para products could have been also analyzed during the
experiment; however, they were not chosen for the product (methyl benzoate) because they have
unstable resonance forms that have positive charges near one another. The two positive charges
that are next to one another can make the product to be unstable and as result ortho and para
substituted products are not favorable in this electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. Also,
an IR of the product confirmed that methyl m nitrobenzoate as a favorable. A peak located at

Explain How The SRMS Changed The Capabilities Of The...
The creation of the SRMS changed the capabilities of the United States space program. Before the
system, everything which needed to be captured required risky docking maneuvers involving highly
trained pilots. With the advent of the system, the Space Shuttle only required close proximity and
allowed the SRMS to perform the delicate movements needed to capture and release objects near
the Space Shuttle.
The entire system was innovative for space capabilities, but it also changed robotics on Earth at
the same time. The first thing the SRMS brought to the space program was the space robotics
which did not exist before it was launched20. The proof of concept set the standard for all future
robotics equipment in space. In addition, the earlier design choices to engineer the system like the
human arm in control were part of a paradigm shift in robotics which has permeated the area
robotics21.
In addition to changing technology, the creation of the SRMS had a major impact on relations
between the United States and Canada in terms of space. First, the deal to develop the system
included the United States providing preferential access to Canada to help build its space

Guns are usually put into three main types: handguns, rifles, and shotguns. In the United States, in
2014 there were around 14,249 murders committed, 68% of them committed with some sort of
firearm. (http://www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp). According to procon.org most Americans,
gun owners included, are in support of the new gun laws and restrictions. (http://gun
control.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=006436). Also, on rense.com it states that,
though crime and gun control are often associated with one another, they aren t always partners
in crime when the crime occurs. While yes there are approximately 30,000 deaths by firearm
each year, not all of it is criminal related. 65% of those deaths are suicides, and 15% of the deaths
are caused by the police or other law enforcers. That makes up 80% of the deaths by firearms.
These are things that are rarely discussed by media. In contrast to this, it is not required for
someone to pass a background check before purchasing a gun. This includes people who are
known to have severe mental illnesses, felons, and/or criminals. From January of 2012 to
November of that same year the government completed nearly 16.8 million background checks
on gun purchases. That number was the highest since 1998. In an article on U.S.A. Today it
states that December of 2015 was the last time that the Senate held a vote in regards towards gun
legislation. This vote was held after two shooters, husband and wife, killed 14 people. This was
the event that took place in San Bernardino. At the time of that vote there were four proposals.
After the voting took place all four of them were shot down. In addition to the San Bernardino
shooting, the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school, which killed twenty six people had
created proposals on the issue of gun control as well. Those were, too, defeated. It has become

Nations peoples. When in class talking about residential schools could be summed up with
discussing displacement and how the Europeans would take indigenous children to schools far from
their homes, cut their hair, and feed them food they weren t used to. According to Eric Hanson, Two
primary objectives of the residential school system were to remove and isolate children from the
influence of their homes, families, traditions and cultures, and to assimilate them into the dominant

Throughout history countries all over have gone through processes of continuous control, and
dominance being held over them which we know as colonization. And through colonization cultural
practices have been taken along with languages, and spiritual beliefs with the opposites of whatever
those may be imposed on them. Residential schools, one of many elements of colonization when it
comes to the Indigenous peoples had a number of these included; as stated by CBC news (2008),
Students were discouraged from speaking their first language or practising native traditions. If they
were caught, they would experience severe punishment. Native traditions can include spiritual
practice, beliefs, language, clothing and more which were all forbidden to be participated in. This
not only oppresses the child, but causes anxiety knowing that if they re caught punishment would
follow afterwards. These elements that make up the Indigenous culture were forbidden to the
children attending these schools, and in turn are replaced with western beliefs systems. Belief

The And Progression Of Schizophrenia
Two Hit Model of Schizophrenia, Discussion, Criticism, and Application to The Onset and
Progression of Schizophrenia
LA14495
University of Maryland Baltimore County
December 2016
Abstract
The purpose of this paper will be to discuss the two hit model of schizophrenia, including what it is,
how it may inform treatment and prevention of schizophrenia, how it applies to schizophrenia for
the duration of onset and progression, and how various primary sources support or challenge the
model. We are finding that despite some inconsistencies between numerous findings and the model,
the model serves as a suitable general explanation of schizophrenia onset and progression.
The two hit model of schizophrenia proposes that disturbances to central nervous system
development, leaves a person exposed to the onset of schizophrenia symptoms caused by various
gene environmental interactions. The disturbances to central nervous system development are the
first hit in the two hit model, and the gene environmental interactions that are able to cause the
onset of schizophrenia in conjunction with the disturbances to central nervous system development
are the second hit in the two hit model.
Schizophrenia is usually grouped into three phases, the prodromal, active, and residual phases.
Usually the prodromal phase occurs during the teen years or early twenties, and most of the time it
occurs before the active phase. There is on occasion, mention of a fourth phase called

Yellow In Crime And Punishment
The novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is filled with many techniques and
images that give it meaning. The techniques and imagery used by Dostoyevsky help develop a
deeper meaning throughout and assist in analyzing it. One of these techniques is color imagery,
specifically with yellow. The color yellow may seem like an insignificant detail but within this novel
it serves a great literary purpose. It is a technique that is used frequently which suggests that this
was done on purpose and that there is a relation between the different scenarios yellow is used in.
By examining the significance of the color yellow and the characters associated with it, Fyodor
Dostoyevskysuggests a clear separation between the lower class and the upper... Show more content

The first example is a description of the old woman s clothes, a mangy fur cape, yellow with age
(5). Over time clothes will age and can slowly change colors, so when Raskolnikov first sees the
old woman and describes her as wearing yellow clothing, it emphasizes how old Alyona
Ivanovna is because her clothes have turned yellow from wearing them so long. This further
emphasizes that she has put herself into a life of poverty because not only does she live in a
deteriorating apartment but she also wears old clothes. Another example of aging is when
Raskolnikov was in the streets and he saw a man staring at him. Raskolnikov decides to follow
him through the streets but eventually loses him and ends up wandering into a parlor looking for
him. The narrator describes Raskolnikov looking around the parlor and seeing that everything
there was as before, the chairs, the looking glass, the yellow sofa and the pictures in the frames
(III, VI). Raskolnikov noticed that nothing had changed from the last time he was there. All the
furniture was the same and the sofa was yellow which suggests that it was very old and had aged
since his last visit. This is significant to the entire novel because aged items are only described with
the lower class and people in poverty don t have the ability to buy new things, they have to live with
what they have. This emphasizes the apparent poverty throughout

The Modernist era was a social and cultural movement characterised by rapid social and

innovative artists and art critics who challenged preconceived ideas about what good art was, and
redefined expectations. Modernismaffected the ideas and practices of artists, increasing the attitude
of the Avant Garde to be original. Abstraction was explored visually and artists moved away from

He aimed to distil the core essence of each artwork through visual vocabulary; using non genre
based subject matter such as distorted shapes, squiggles and motifs. For example, in his painting
Composition IV, 1911, Kandinsky has partially disguised symbols of subject matter from the
outside world, such as boats, reclining figures, and a castle on a hilltop, beneath vibrant blocks of
colour and harsh black lines. The notion of battle is conveyed in the chaos of the composition
particularly in the way Kandinsky has juxtaposed the clashing vibrant high key colours, with the
calm of the flowing forms. This alludes to the peace and redemption to
follow. Kandinsky s formalistic approach to the biomorphic painting with a specific focus on
colour, shape and arrangement was challenging to the deeply ingrained notion that subject matter
was required to tell a narrative and realistically represent society. Kandinsky was criticised for
devaluing art in the Modernist era and promoting the notion of art for art s sake due to the
abstract nature of his work. However he argued that such artwork could create a corresponding
thrill or contrast of emotion in the audience. He said Such works of art at least preserve the soul

Review Of Biosemantics Millikan s Goal For ``...
Jessica Scruggs Phil 307 Response Paper #3 11/11/16 Millikan s Biosemantics Millikan s goal for
Biosementaics is to explain what connects a representation with the thing it represents. To reach this
goal, Millikan has to explain that there are special conditions that need to be met to form a
connection between a representation and its object. These content fixing conditions cannot be
statistically normal conditions, because normal is a relative term. An example Millikan gives is
that of a red face. Is it a sign of sunburn? Exertion? Overheating? Embarrassment? Or, often times in
my case, alcohol flush? There are numerous views that focus on the idea that what produces a
representation is what makes it what it is. Millikan brings up views by Fodor, Stampe, Matthen, and
Dretske. Millikan dismisses Fodor s idea that content is fixed by a causal connection, but the
representation s role in a functional system is what, in the end, determines how the content is fixed.
She dismisses it because having fixed content means to act like a representation. Stampe, Matthen,
and Dretske say that the representations have a detecting or indicating role, but Millikan also
dismisses this as unenlightening, because the terms detect and indicate basically meanto represent.
Millikan refutes all of these notions so that she can explain that the way a representation is used is
what fixes the content, not how it was made. The object of representation stands for something
because there is

Unit 207 Understand Person Centred Approaches Essays
Unit 207 Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings.
Outcome 1 Understand person centred approaches for care and support.
1.1 Define Person centred values.
Person centred values means the people whom we support are treated as equals and are involved
in all aspects and areas of their care and that they are respected and valued as individuals. This
means being involved in their assessments, care delivery and support planning, basically person
centred values is making sure all approaches, policies and procedures and care practices put the
residents at the centre of the day to day activities. It should also include the residents and their
families in the planning and maintaining of this.
1.2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of a support plan is the perfect example of how person centred working operates.
Instead offering people a choice of what is currently available and finding what best fits their
needs, person centred working looks at someone s needs and built the support package around
them. One of the important aspects of person centred planning is to look at what people are able
to do for themselves and to ensure that services are not taking over aspects of a person s life that
they could perfectly well manage without support.
Outcome 3 Understand the importance of establishing consent when providing care or support.
3.1 Define the word consent
Consent is the informed agreement to an action and/or decision. Permission for something to
happen or agreement to do something.
3.2 Explain the importance of gaining consent when providing care or support.
When working with an individual it is important to uphold their rights to be fully involved in their
own care, whilst adhering to legal requirements. It is also the individuals right to refuse any care,
support or treatment they do not want. It is also essential that people not only give you their
consent but also that they understand what they are consenting to and the implications of this.
Gaining consent protects not just the career but the individual receiving the care and support as
well. If no consent is given then you cannot proceed with the care. It is illegal to pressure anyone

Reincarnation Is A Belief Of The Soul After Death
Reincarnation is a belief that has existed since ancient times. Not everybody believes in the theory,

others. Reincarnationis an intriguing belief that could explain what happens to people after death.
I.A.
The one person who started the theory of reincarnation is unknown, but there are a few religions
believed to have started the theory in ancient times. Many Americans like to think of reincarnation
as a fantasy of supernatural Buddhists, Hindus, and aboriginal tribes, but there are many more
religions whose teachings say to believe. First, the subject of reincarnation comes up in the

the theory ( Reincarnation ). Next, many people claim ancient Egyptians taught reincarnation. It is
also believed to be in ancient Greek mythology ( Reincarnation Mark ). Another believed culture to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Corporations Using Debt To...
Expanding globally can be very lucrative for a corporation, however it is very risky as well. To,
have a smooth transition when expanding globally, a corporation is going to require capital. When
looking to raise capital, corporations have several options to choose from. One of the most
common options to raise capital that corporations have is debtfinancing. Debt financing is when a
corporation sells bonds, bills, and notes to individuals. (Investopedia) Another form is equity
financing, which allows corporations to raise capital by the sale of shares. (Investopedia) In this
assignment, I will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of corporations using debt to
gain capital. First, I will discuss the advantages of corporations using debt to gain capital. The
first and obvious advantage of debt financing is having the funds that are necessary to purchase
new buildings, equipment, and assets that are needed for the expansion of the FedEx
corporation. When a corporation decides to use debt financing to gain capital, the lender has no
say in the way the corporation is being managed. The management team gets to make all the
decisions on the behalf of the corporation. The lender is not involved in any of the planning of

The Importance Of Being Earnest Value

The Importance of Value In the drama The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde, Lady
Bracknell is right to say that We live, I regret to say, in an age of surfaces (Wilde 1604). This play
emphasizes that the Victorian eradid not value sympathy for the underprivileged, responsibility, or
even true honesty. Only wealthiness, class status, and style were what the Victorians cared about.
An example of this would be when neither Lady Bracknell nor Algernon exhibited much
compassion when Bunbury had died. The drama offers the idea that Earnest and Bunbury are very
similar in this play, because they are both completely made up and that they also symbolize the

The handbag that Jack was found in was described as being normal, but a little ragged from
overuse. The handbag Jack was placed in as a baby was found in a cloakroom, which is no
coincidence considering that this ordinary handbag was found in a common place where
garments such as coats, scarves, and cloaks are hung. Those pieces of clothing could all be worn
to disguise an identity or a face. The fact that Jack is found at the intersection of two lines of
trains heading two different places really puts him in an identity crisis. Even though Lady
Bracknell has no idea of Jack s original origin, she still tends to look at the negatives and judges
him based on his past. But what she does not take into consideration, is that since he was found
at Victoria Station, the reader could interpret that his social life would be very successful and
eventually hold a very reputable position. Although this idea is foreshadowed by the fact that Jack
was found on Brighton Lane, which happens to be the road that leads straight to the richer parts
of town. The story of Earnest focuses mainly on Jack s social advancements. At the end of the play
it is actually divulged that he is a true member of the aristocracy, being a part of the

Nasi Lemak Make You Fat
Nasi Lemak Make you Fat?
A packet of my breakfast last week
Do you really think eating Nasi Lemak will make you fat? Is it because of its high coconut oil
/ santan content? I once read some articles of coconut oil, I came to know that it has many health
benefits than other oil. Here is one of the Health Benefit of Coconut Oil you can read on.
I really want to know if there are some other reasons why Nasi Lemak is said to make us Malaysian
fat or obese. I would support the idea of controlling the sales of those processed food, like nuggets,
fried fries, fried mashed potatoes cakes, oily noodles, and sausages in the school canteen.
Whenever my girls ask for sausages in their meals, I would stare at them with my sharpest eyes, ...

  • 2. The Worst Sort Of Husband By Daniel Defoe The Worst Sort of Husband Daniel Defoe The Worst Sort of Husband by Daniel Defoe was written to explain the different types of husbands women deal with and their personalities. This analysis goes in depth on how diverse husbands can be. There are five different husbands described in the analysis: the Drunken Husband, the Debauched Husband, the Fighting Husband, and the Extravagant Husband. Each husband described was a male s point of view of men for a sober woman s knowledge on who she wants to marry. The author, Daniel Defoe was an English writer that lived in the 1700s. Daniel Defoe did not always have this name because he changed his name to something that he personally thought was professional. Defoe wanted his name to sound more like a gentleman s name and that is the name he chose. Defoe was a very famous writer in the 1700s in London, England and was acknowledged by all his written work. Personally, I believe Daniel Defoe wrote this article out of humor, but I m also not sure of what exactly people thought was humorous in the 1700s. If not humorous, this article was meant to be informational for woman. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m sure the audience was broad, being that Defoe was a popular writer but focusing more on women. This article was written because of a conversation that Defoe had with a former lady. He says that this question intrigued him to write about it. The question was, What is the worst sort of husband a sober woman can marry? . Children, males, and elders are the excluded audience of this article about husbands. Children have yet to get married, men aren t necessarily interested in finding the worst sort of husband, and elders are either already married or most likely not interested in marrying at such an old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A complex between crystal violet and iodine (CV I) is formed within the cell. The structure that determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to trap the purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the Gram staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin peptidoglycan layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located between the plasma membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this outer layer is dissolved during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex, hence the pink safranin counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram staining allows us to observe the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For Bacillus cereus, endospores were also viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram staining, the most crucial step in determining the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step. If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied for 30 seconds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. African, Medieval Kingdom Of Mali, Questions And Answers 1. Were you surprised by anything you read in the sources on the African, medieval kingdom of Mali? I was surprised by how big the Mali Empire was, and how many people lived in the land (roughly size of western Europe, 50 million people). I was also surprised by how rich Mansa Musa was so rich that 500 slaves could go before him caring golden staffs that were four pounds! 2. As the people of medical West Africadid not generally record information through their own written language, how do you think historians know so much about Mali? A lot of the information known about the Mali Empire probably came from foreigners that visited a few of over 400 cities in the Mali Empire. Since Mansa Musa built large scale projects, like palaces in Timbuktu and Gao, architectural scholars and enthusiasts most likely visited them, and left detailed records. Simerly, Musa also promoted education, as he built a university. Because of this, foreigners would have come to the Mali Empire to study. During their stay, the students would also have written about the empire. Finally, traders would have also have helped historians learn about the Mali Empire. By recording what items were traded, and how much of each item was traded, historians would know about the wealth of Mali. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the sources you have read thus far, what role does trade appear to play in cultural and economic progress in the civilizations you encountered in these readings and perhaps in those you studied in the 8th grade? In most cases, trade provides wealth to the region, which in turn stabilizes and fortifies it. With the security the region has, the people start to flourish, and arts, learning and technology grow. For example, when trade started to flourish in Europe, towns were established, new farming techniques were discovered and people could start to specialize in jobs other than farming. This method focusses on the collaboration of all the parties involved during the entire process of construction. As all the teams work together, the risks, liabilities, incentives and responsibilities are equally shared by everyone. Even associates having more than 5% of share in the total cost of the construction project are equally liable as any other members of the entire group. Building Information Modelling or BIM is usage of various soft wares which are flexible, highly detailed, contain extensive data and can efficiently help in simulation the activities of construction. This simulation can be rendered in various dimensions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps in making the project extremely cost and time effective. The construction manager can provide design timelines to all the participating members of the project. Once the designs are ready, the design conflicts can be solved in group meetings. The traditional method of construction is inefficient in this matter as the problems in design will be faced on site and corrections to this can be extremely costly and inefficient. IDP is a signed contract between all the participating parties. Therefore, the BIM designs can work as legal documents if any issues arise. The amount of importance given to these drawings and other policies can be decided in group meeting of the various parties. This helps in making the contract clearer. Also, the designers can copyright or have mutual understandings between the constructors regarding the sharing of their designs with any third party or using the designs in any future ... Rationale According to the latest concluding observations of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), article 14 of Maternal Health Act 1948 is problematic since it states that [t]he women are required to get content from their spouses in order to obtain an abortion (CEDAW, 2016, para. 38 (b)). However, the actual description in it is a doctor may perform an Induced Abortion on a person who falls under any of the following items after obtaining consent from the relevant person and the spouse (Maternal Health Act 1948, Art. 14 (1)). Then I will analyze the current Japanese situation by using various literatures, not only works of feminist scholars such as Petchesky (1985) and Norgen (2001), but also works of cultural anthropologist scholars such as Burnlund (1989). As Okin argues, even though Japan has a different cultural background from other developed countries, especially Western countries, cultural exception should not be adopted (1998, p.38). I agree on her argument, therefore, I do not intend to discuss that the conclusion of CEDAW ignores the Japanese cultural character, and it is wrong or inadequate. The tourism industry in New Zealand contributes to nearly 3.7% of the country s gross domestic product. Though a key pillar of the economy, it is also raised a lot of problem in its environment. Tourism is gradually damaging the environment of New Zealand and it has raised an alarm for the country to consider its pillar sector. New Zealand has magnificent sceneries such as the Mt. Victoria, the Fiordland National Park, The Southern Lakes and the Expansive national museum. This essay endeavors to ascertain that tourism in New Zealand is causing environmental issues in the country. Discussion Tourism has adversely affected the environment of New Zealand in the following ways: its biggest impact is on the loss of quality land. Some of New Zealand s unhampered natural environments are experiencing human interference in their natural setting. Some environments such as in the Fiordland National Park the tall tussock grassland is slowly degrading. Only a small percentage of 10% of this grassland that existed is present. This grassland has slowly been degraded since 1984. Through the reduction in grassland covered areas in New Zealand leads to a lot of soil erosion. Soil erosion leads to the loss of rich nutrients that help improve the environment. Soil erosion leads to desertification in the land. Reduced soil fertility has a direct impact on the produce of the environment and farming. Deteriorated soil further leads to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Themes Of Fate And Fate In Oedipus The King Destiny and fate both play a similar role in this play. These are two crucial themes that are central to the play; they have a devastating impact on the story line and unleash terror on the characters. Fate is one of the opposition elements of the play that is influenced by one s own action but ultimately is dictated by events beyond anybody s control. By elevating the importance of fate, Sophoclessuggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions, but instead, they are unaware that their destinyis controlled by a supreme power. These two main themes cause tragedy and despair to many characters, however, the most affected one is King Oedipus. In the Greek tragedy, Oedipus the King , the irony of fate and destiny is ... His destiny decided by the God s is particularly cruel and pitiless since the oracle of Delphi decided that his fate was to kill his father and marry his mother. An ancient Greek audience would accept the wisdom of the gods. However, Sophocles skill as a playwright is to challenge the ancient Greek received wisdom: even though Oedipus ought to accept his destiny because of some heinous sin committed by his forefathers, he inspires sympathy in the audience by using dramatic irony. Oedipus dire warning as he imposes on himself the penalty of exile: severe sentence // will be exile shows the reader that Oedipus is ignorant of the fact that he is the guilty one and that therefore he is inadvertently condemning his own future and his own life. Also, the quotation I curse him is another example of dramatic irony since the King is unaware that he is cursing himself and consequently, putting at risk and at danger his own future. This again shows the strength of the God s who are able to arrange and decide people s destiny. Later on the play, the audience discover him as being blind since he does not manage to see the truth about himself. Therefore, this makes him exposed and vulnerable to his unknown and unwanted devastating destiny. Sophocles uses the quote: For blind of seeing to show that Oedipus frequently ... Not only was this a traumatic time for the English it was also a wake up call to further fortified the camp and to be enclosed with palisades. Thus the family, in this instance Babette, serves as the medium through which Jack is able to overcome Heinrich s skepticism (which is representative of modern science (24)) as to the reality of human emotions. DeLillo s image, moreover, of Jack and Babette rescuing themselves from the past also suggests that without family or someone to commune with, man can become lost in the past. Purpose:
The main objective of this experiment was to synthesize methyl nitrobenzoate from methyl benzoate, using the mixture of nitric and sulfuric acid by performing the process of electrophillic aromatic substitution. During this reaction, the combination of HNO3 and H2SO4 made a nitrating solution. The crystallization was done to accomplish pure product. The melting point and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) were performed to test the purity of the product. So, the analysis of the melting point confirmed that the product was methyl meta nitrobenzoate as it was anticipated. Additionally, use of the melting point analysis shows that NO2 group could be added to the methyl benzoate at the meta position successfully. The ortho and para products could have been also analyzed during the experiment; however, they were not chosen for the product (methyl benzoate) because they have unstable resonance forms that have positive charges near one another. • 29. The And Progression Of Schizophrenia Two Hit Model of Schizophrenia, Discussion, Criticism, and Application to The Onset and Progression of Schizophrenia LA14495 University of Maryland Baltimore County December 2016 Abstract The purpose of this paper will be to discuss the two hit model of schizophrenia, including what it is, how it may inform treatment and prevention of schizophrenia, how it applies to schizophrenia for the duration of onset and progression, and how various primary sources support or challenge the model. We are finding that despite some inconsistencies between numerous findings and the model, the model serves as a suitable general explanation of schizophrenia onset and progression. The two hit model of schizophrenia proposes that disturbances to central nervous system development, leaves a person exposed to the onset of schizophrenia symptoms caused by various gene environmental interactions. The disturbances to central nervous system development are the first hit in the two hit model, and the gene environmental interactions that are able to cause the onset of schizophrenia in conjunction with the disturbances to central nervous system development are the second hit in the two hit model. Schizophrenia is usually grouped into three phases, the prodromal, active, and residual phases. Usually the prodromal phase occurs during the teen years or early twenties, and most of the time it occurs before the active phase. There is on occasion, mention of a fourth phase called ... • 30. Yellow In Crime And Punishment The novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is filled with many techniques and images that give it meaning. The techniques and imagery used by Dostoyevsky help develop a deeper meaning throughout and assist in analyzing it. One of these techniques is color imagery, specifically with yellow. The color yellow may seem like an insignificant detail but within this novel it serves a great literary purpose. It is a technique that is used frequently which suggests that this was done on purpose and that there is a relation between the different scenarios yellow is used in. By examining the significance of the color yellow and the characters associated with it, Fyodor Dostoyevskysuggests a clear separation between the lower class and the upper... Over time clothes will age and can slowly change colors, so when Raskolnikov first sees the old woman and describes her as wearing yellow clothing, it emphasizes how old Alyona Ivanovna is because her clothes have turned yellow from wearing them so long. This further emphasizes that she has put herself into a life of poverty because not only does she live in a deteriorating apartment but she also wears old clothes. Another example of aging is when Raskolnikov was in the streets and he saw a man staring at him. Raskolnikov decides to follow him through the streets but eventually loses him and ends up wandering into a parlor looking for him. The narrator describes Raskolnikov looking around the parlor and seeing that everything there was as before, the chairs, the looking glass, the yellow sofa and the pictures in the frames (III, VI). Raskolnikov noticed that nothing had changed from the last time he was there. All the furniture was the same and the sofa was yellow which suggests that it was very old and had aged since his last visit. This is significant to the entire novel because aged items are only described with the lower class and people in poverty don t have the ability to buy new things, they have to live with what they have. This emphasizes the apparent poverty throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The art movement revolved around a group of innovative artists and art critics who challenged preconceived ideas about what good art was, and redefined expectations. Modernismaffected the ideas and practices of artists, increasing the attitude of the Avant Garde to be original. He aimed to distil the core essence of each artwork through visual vocabulary; using non genre based subject matter such as distorted shapes, squiggles and motifs. For example, in his painting Composition IV, 1911, Kandinsky has partially disguised symbols of subject matter from the outside world, such as boats, reclining figures, and a castle on a hilltop, beneath vibrant blocks of colour and harsh black lines. The notion of battle is conveyed in the chaos of the composition particularly in the way Kandinsky has juxtaposed the clashing vibrant high key colours, with the calm of the flowing forms. This alludes to the peace and redemption to follow. Kandinsky s formalistic approach to the biomorphic painting with a specific focus on colour, shape and arrangement was challenging to the deeply ingrained notion that subject matter was required to tell a narrative and realistically represent society. Kandinsky was criticised for devaluing art in the Modernist era and promoting the notion of art for art s sake due to the abstract nature of his work. However he argued that such artwork could create a corresponding thrill or contrast of emotion in the audience. He said Such works of art at least preserve the soul from coarseness; they key it up...as tuning key the strings of a musical instrument. He aimed to reveal the inner life ... • 33. Review Of Biosemantics Millikan s Goal For ``... Jessica Scruggs Phil 307 Response Paper #3 11/11/16 Millikan s Biosemantics Millikan s goal for Biosementaics is to explain what connects a representation with the thing it represents. To reach this goal, Millikan has to explain that there are special conditions that need to be met to form a connection between a representation and its object. These content fixing conditions cannot be statistically normal conditions, because normal is a relative term. An example Millikan gives is that of a red face. Is it a sign of sunburn? Exertion? Overheating? Embarrassment? Or, often times in my case, alcohol flush? There are numerous views that focus on the idea that what produces a representation is what makes it what it is. Millikan brings up views by Fodor, Stampe, Matthen, and Dretske. Millikan dismisses Fodor s idea that content is fixed by a causal connection, but the representation s role in a functional system is what, in the end, determines how the content is fixed. She dismisses it because having fixed content means to act like a representation. Stampe, Matthen, and Dretske say that the representations have a detecting or indicating role, but Millikan also dismisses this as unenlightening, because the terms detect and indicate basically meanto represent. Millikan refutes all of these notions so that she can explain that the way a representation is used is what fixes the content, not how it was made. The object of representation stands for something because there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Outcome 1 Understand person centred approaches for care and support. 1.1 Define Person centred values. Person centred values means the people whom we support are treated as equals and are involved in all aspects and areas of their care and that they are respected and valued as individuals. This means being involved in their assessments, care delivery and support planning, basically person centred values is making sure all approaches, policies and procedures and care practices put the residents at the centre of the day to day activities. It should also include the residents and their families in the planning and maintaining of this. 1.2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The development of a support plan is the perfect example of how person centred working operates. Instead offering people a choice of what is currently available and finding what best fits their needs, person centred working looks at someone s needs and built the support package around them. One of the important aspects of person centred planning is to look at what people are able to do for themselves and to ensure that services are not taking over aspects of a person s life that they could perfectly well manage without support. Outcome 3 Understand the importance of establishing consent when providing care or support. 3.1 Define the word consent Consent is the informed agreement to an action and/or decision. Permission for something to happen or agreement to do something. 3.2 Explain the importance of gaining consent when providing care or support. When working with an individual it is important to uphold their rights to be fully involved in their own care, whilst adhering to legal requirements. It is also the individuals right to refuse any care, support or treatment they do not want. It is also essential that people not only give you their consent but also that they understand what they are consenting to and the implications of this. This play emphasizes that the Victorian eradid not value sympathy for the underprivileged, responsibility, or even true honesty. Only wealthiness, class status, and style were what the Victorians cared about. An example of this would be when neither Lady Bracknell nor Algernon exhibited much compassion when Bunbury had died. The drama offers the idea that Earnest and Bunbury are very similar in this play, because they are both completely made up and that they also symbolize the empty ... The handbag Jack was placed in as a baby was found in a cloakroom, which is no coincidence considering that this ordinary handbag was found in a common place where garments such as coats, scarves, and cloaks are hung. Those pieces of clothing could all be worn to disguise an identity or a face. The fact that Jack is found at the intersection of two lines of trains heading two different places really puts him in an identity crisis. Even though Lady Bracknell has no idea of Jack s original origin, she still tends to look at the negatives and judges him based on his past. But what she does not take into consideration, is that since he was found at Victoria Station, the reader could interpret that his social life would be very successful and eventually hold a very reputable position. Although this idea is foreshadowed by the fact that Jack was found on Brighton Lane, which happens to be the road that leads straight to the richer parts of town.
