Essay On J. H. Picard Othello
What is the cruelest way to punish a man: to kill him, or to rob him of everything he loves? To
imprison him, or strip him of all sense, morals and honor? J.H. Picard s production of Othello
explored these questions and more in a tale of love, deception, and hatred.
Written by the king of theater himself, William Shakespeare, Othello unfolds in an Italy overrun by
misogyny and racism. When the Moorish general Othello denies his aide, Iago, a promotion and
marries a girl who has blatantly betrayed her father, Iago becomes determined to seek his revenge.
How so? By manipulation and a bag full of the seeds of doubt, just waiting to be sown.
In a unique blend of modern and classical styles, J.H. Picard brought a level of energy to the stage
that no ordinary group of Shakespearean actors could. Although some lines were missed by the
audience due to rushed dialogue, the cast used clever gestures and voices to vocalize ... Show more

Each word effortlessly rolled off his tongue in excellent Shakespearean diction, giving the
impression of a strong, scheming character. Alongside him was Jonah Lechot as the play s
namesake, Othello. He was expressive and bold in his performance, making his presence known
from the moment he stepped on stage.
Although the play focused primarily on male characters, some of the most notable performances
emerged from the female roles. The wives of Othello and Iago, Desdemona and Emilia respectively,
were confident and charming in their roles. In song, in speech, and even in death, their interactions
were continually heartwarming and heartbreaking.
While the leads enchanted the audience at the front of the stage, the ensemble of young women,
consisting of Maddison Kingham, Daisy Brazil and Neressa Wimberly, brought humor and sass to
the show, never once dropping character. They undoubtedly became a refreshing relief from the
melancholic mood of the

Kenya Culture Vs American Culture
The country of Kenya is made up of many different ethnic groups and tribes which makes it very
broad when comes to their culture. They respect their elders and that is why ancestors play a big
role in the culture in Kenya. They do not worship ancestors but pay high respect and reverence
towards them because they are thought to be living in spirit among them. Kenyais a very group
oriented country contrasting the American individualistic culture. Family is a very important
aspect in Kenya and being group oriented many relationships are built on community. A handshake
is customary when greeting but when it is with someone who you are close to then it is a
prolonged handshake. When meeting an elder or someone of high status it is expected to grasp

The United States And Its Impact On The Nation...
There are many challenges when it comes to rebuilding failing states and retraining their
militaries. The practice is done for the purposes of advancement of political objectives, also the
attempt to provide stability within a hostile region, saving a fragile nation from collapse, and to
provide support to oppressed groups and populations aligned with similar value structures. It is not
a new policy tactic for the United States, there have been several cases where America has played a
big role in nation reconstruction and redeveloping regional armed forces. While there have been
some successful campaigns in these efforts to fight insurgency, improve conditions in regional civil
conflicts, and stabilize areas, it has not always been effective policy. The United States has had a
pretty varied legacy with these types of interventions. From different case examples, it can be
concluded that when a liberator is rebuilding a state or a military, and is dealing with a population
that is multi ethnic and has deep religious divisions, the effort is probably more likely to fail than to
succeed. Further research also indicated that acting multilaterally produced much better results with
nation reconstruction/intervention. Usually, during intervention campaigns, short term goals were
reached, although there are often issues with achieving long term goals of peace and stability.
Some scholars have acknowledged that some attempts at saving failing states have resulted in
governments

Formalism The Hershey Bar of Criticism
Formalism means a lot of different things to a lot of different people and refers to many different
types of critical work and analysis. But to make a complicated matter simple, we can say pretty
safely that formalism refers to critics or criticism that, first and foremost, emphasize the form or
structure of a work of art and assume that nothing in that form or structure is really accidental or
insignificant. That is, the formal elements in a work of art all mean something, in relation to one
another and to us. By looking at the architecture of art how it is constructed, what its elements are,
how they fit together, why they are there, and where they lead formalism assumes that we will make
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, what we mean by form can range widely not just between different works of art but
within a single work of art as well. For example, when examining a literary text, we may talk
about plot as a formal element by discussing its characters and their actions, and then we may focus
on characters and actions as formal elements by analyzing voice and motivation. In turn, we may
then decide to study voice and motivation as formal elements by considering things like word choice
, feeling, or theme. And so on and so on. Plot, character, action, voice, motivation, feelings, themes
when and where does a formalist analysis begin, and where does it end?
Some answer this question by saying it ends just before it reaches the real world. Formalist critics
are sometimes thought to ignore the real world in favor of the representational world that the work
of art creates, looking only at its intricate internal structures and landscapes. But formalist analyses
often go hand in hand with different types of criticism or concerns. For example, studying how and
when certain characters are introduced into a plot might lead to claims that sound more like
feminist criticism than formalist criticism. Similarly, someone studying those thumb prints on the
vase might end up asking us to rethink a few of our historical or anthropological assumptions about
a particular group of people who worked and played within a particular cultural context. Thus, by

Benefits Of Race Horse
Thoroughbred race horses are among the most gifted and elegant athletes on the planet. Its ability
to sustain distances of up to two miles at speeds of up to 35 mph also makes it one of the fastest
creatures on the planet. At the racetrack, they are trained to do one thing, run as fast as they can
for as long as they can against others horses that are trained to do the same thing.
Given the high costs of maintaining an active racehorse, every horse is generally required to
support themselves by running fast enough to win races and collect purses. When a horse in no
longer capable of winning races and being the object of free bets for gamblers because of injury or
the inability to compete at the lowest levels of the sport, they are retired.

Owning a Retired Race Horse
If the price is right and the details check out, you are ready to be the proud owners of a retired race

Horses sleep laying down. You want to make sure they are stabled where the stall is cleaned on a

Horses love to eat and graze. You want to make sure the responsibilities for feeding are covered.
Also, your horse will love you if you can stable them in an environment where grass is available
for grazing.

Weaknesses Of The French Crown
Importance of the Weaknesses of the French Crown in Explaining the Outbreak of the French Wars
of Religion in 1562
Previously France had been ruled by Henry II, a strong experienced ruler. It was, however, an
unfortunate jousting accident lead to the swift decline of the French monarchy. Henry s
successor, Francis II, was only fifteen years old on his accession to the throne in 1559. He was
inexperienced and easily manipulated. Charles IX, a ten year old who relied upon the help of
Catherine de Medici, his regent, then succeeded him. It was this new weak monarchy that acted as
a catalyst for the many underlying problems that had been previously controlled. The weaknesses of
the monarchy allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francis Duke of Guise quickly assumed control of the army, church and foreign affairs. The
Montmorency family had been stripped of office. The sudden shift of power towards the Guise
family heightened tensions between the aristocratic factions.
The monarchy in France operated through a clientage system. The King was at the apex and he
would give money and protection to the clientage beneath him, who, in return would offer the king
loyalty. Those beneath him included large aristocratic families and below these families were the
nobility, and further down still, the lesser nobility. The three aristocratic families were therefore
reliant on the nobility below them in the system for support. In return they would give offices
and jobs to their clients. Due to a weak monarchy this clientage system broke down. The
clientage system was a good way of exercising control over the major aristocratic families.
However, in order for such a system to function there needed to be a strong monarch and a large
sum of money, neither of which were available in 1559. After the vast amount of money spent in
the Hapsburg Valios wars the royal treasury was drained of resources. The monarchy not only
lacked a strong ruler but was also economically weak. It meant that the King could no longer keep
the aristocratic families under control by the means of the clientage system. The Guise s, who had

Why Is Paul Revere Important
The person I chose for my topic, who is the well known silver/goldsmith, Paul Revere, is quite
important to understanding the American Revolutionary War. Revere is considered by some to be
the kick starter of this revolution (Paul Revere, Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia.), so essentially,
if you are able to understand him, you are able to understand the American Revolution. In the
following essay, I will explain to you who Paul Revere is, and his importance. Revere was born
around the time of December 21, 1734, to January of 1735, which is relatively close. In his early
years, before his famous ride, he worked for his father to help support his rather large family. As
time passed, he grew up, and British Reprimands changed as well, which... Show more content on

Well, It was his ride on April 18, 1775, that etched his name into history. (Biography.com.) It was
a brisk night that had indirectly been prepared for a while. A messenger that the redcoats were
coming informed Revere, and within moments he was knocking on Dr. Joseph Warrens door.
Warren then informed Revere of the British numbers, being 700 1000. After this talk with
Warren, Revere set off to find Robert Newman who was sexton of the church, and told him if the
British are coming by land to hang one lantern in the steeple of the Old North Church, and two if
they were coming by sea. When Revere saw the signal of two lanterns hanging, he quickly went
to Charles River, where he boated past the British in stealth mode, landing in Charlestown.
Revere rode through Charlestown to Lexington warning the Minutemen (David, Lester. The
story behind Paul Revere s Famous ride. Boy s life,) whom were the colonists packing artillery if
this situation were to occur. It was said for many years Revere yelled, The British are coming!
which was incorrect. Quoting a very wise Dr. Keefer, it would not make sense taking into
account that Paul himself was British. Therefore it was determined he shouted, The Regulars
are out! When Revere finally reached Lexington, Bill Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott joined in
his ride. Along the way to Concord, a British officer stopped them, in which Revere was
captured, but Prescott Dawes were able to escape. However, it was too late. Revere was able to
escape, and he had heard firing in which the American Revolutionary War had just begun. (David,

Analysis of a Television Advertisement Aimed at Raising Awareness on the Issue of Road Safety
In order to analyse the advertisement, it is necessary to look at the different techniques used
throughout. The advertisement has been created in order to promote road safety, and is from a
series of advertisements called THINK! The specific advert I am to analyse is called Backwards ,
and deals with the decision of whether or not to wear seatbelts whilst travelling in a car. Different
techniques used in the advertisement are employed in order to increase effectiveness, these are as
follows; the meaning behind the visuals of the advertisement, the target audience and how it raises
the audiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is very the ultimate goal of the advertisement that the meaning comes across very clearly, and
also that this message be a lasting one.
Wearing a seatbelt became the law in 1983, therefore the advert is not only for to raise awareness
and show that seatbelts save lives, but it is also to demonstrate that you are breaking the law as
well by not wearing one.
Obviously being a road safety advertisement, the target audience of the advertisement is any
drivers and passengers that use cars either on a regular basis or sporadically. An important factor
to consider when appealing to a certain audience is the time that the advertisement is shown each
day, how often that it is shown and the language that is used throughout the advertisement. It is
important that the target can relate to the tone or features of the advert, if they are to take
anything away from it. This particular advertisement was shown up to 25 times a day. It was also
part of a series shown on television intermittently throughout the year. This means that the
advertisement will be shown at the start of the year for 3 weeks, then at the end of the year for a
further 3 weeks. The scene at the end of the advert emerges with a line on it reading, If you had
another chance, what would you do differently? This phrase is easily understood, and can therefore
appeal to any person of any age,

A player must demonstrate initiative to gain the trust and support of a tribe. Though efforts against
them can prove counteractive, taking away a tribe s support and just the basis of being aligned to

creating mutual relationships in the pursuit of personal gain and can be viewed on multiple levels
ranging from communities as large as countries, to smaller interactions between business s. A

Essay about Student-Centered Learning
Student Centered Learning missing works cited
Definition(s)
There are several ways that student centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to
the same basic idea, the student. First, student centered learning can be defined as a discipline that
involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real
world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the
classroom, just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the
definition of student centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the
focus, and the teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ... Show

Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on
the system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students future
accomplishment.
The first approach of student centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called
the Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were
some students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the
textbook approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students
were randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students
previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used
in both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: exploration, concept
introduction and concept application . During these three phases the students worked together in
groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the
teacher would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas
and situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could
lead the lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together
and the groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman,
Barman 1996). Dinan

Resilience Theory Applied For A Chance Essay
Resilience Theory Applied to A Chance in the World
Anthony Shohan
Bridgewater State University
Resilience, in its simplest form, is the ability for someone or something to recover after an action
has occurred against them or it, whether it be an emotional and/or physical action (Earvolino
Ramirez 2007; Dyer McGuinness 1996). Resilience is defined, more directly, as the positive end
of the distribution of developmental outcomes among individuals at high risk (Luthar et al., 2000
pg. 3). When resilience is dovetailed with the ideals of social work or psychology, resilience can be
the determining factor in the future of an individual. In the realm of social work, resilience theory
can be applied to individuals as a way to formulate whether or not that individual was or will be
successful in life. Resilience theory focuses on the strengths of individuals. Like most theories used
in social work and psychology, there are both the strengths of the theories as well as the limitations
of the theories. Resilience theory cannot escape this trend. There are numerous strengths and, in
contrast, limitations with resilience theory. Luthar, Cicchetti, and Becker (2000) identify a
limitation of resilience theory with the idea that even though a child is thriving in their current
time, as time goes on, their ability to continue adapting decreases. Luthar et al. (2000) continue to
note that the majority of studies conducted on resilience are mainly empirical

The American Of The Mexican War
In an effort to gain the Texas territory, Polk s decision to declare war on Mexico was provoked by
the Mexican government itself. His diplomatic course of action proved to have been in vain in an
attempt to gain compromise and peace between America and Mexico. Regardless of the attempts
made by the American government to peacefully coerce Mexicoto relinquish the land, America
was denied each and every time. Military presence was necessary in order to facilitate a greater
respect from Mexico and to also offer additional protection for the Americans residing in Texas at
the time; it was not meant by any means to act as a threat towards the Mexican government.
Provided these facts, it can be assumed that the Mexican War was not an exercise in American
imperialism, but rather, was instigated by the increasing fear felt by the Mexican government due
to the lack of power within their own boundaries; this fear was further perpetrated by the fact that
Mexico owed America money but could not pay, Mexico stepped onto American soil and fired the
first shots, and that the majority of residents residing in Texas were in fact American citizens.
Knowing that the internal framework of the Mexican government was very unstable, Polk guarded
the borders with troops in order to intimidate them into complying with Congress s request not to
engage in war. His use of military force was designed less to protect Texas than to support an
aggressive diplomacy which might extract a

conspiracy theories regarding the 9/11 attacks, presidential assassinations, Area 51, Jimmy
Hoffa, the English crown and Elvis. The list is endless. In this paper we are going to discuss the
moon landing conspiracy. Apparently there are people who believe the entire moon landing was

Conspiracy theorists have also argued that there should have been a freshly gouged crater where
the lunar module s descent engine blasted into the lunar soil. However Bizony rebuffs this myth
by explaining that the powdery lunar soil was disturbed by the downward pointing jet of the
exhaust, but the thrust was not enough to create a crater in the topsoil, much less even be able
to penetrate the hard rocky substrate (Bizony, It was all a fake, right?, 2009). The website,
moonlandinghoax.org explains that the lunar module had six foot long landing probes under the
foot pads and when they registered contact the engines would stop firing and the module would
fall gently the rest of the way (Moon landing hoax). Since the engines stopped firing
approximately six feet before landing, there was not enough blast pressure to create a crater. The
article stated that a firecracker would have more power than the engines did after they ceased to
fire (Moon landing hoax). The conspiracy theorists have even gone as far to say that NASA even
murdered astronauts in order to help keep this monumental hoax a secret. One of these instances
included the accidental deaths of three astronauts; Ed White, Roger Chaffee, and Guss Grissom;
that died in a fire while testing an Apollo spacecraft (Moon landing hoax). After the fire,
investigations went on and it was determined that the fire was attributed to a wide range of lethal

Morality Of Chaucer In The Nun s Tale And Flush
With varying narrators in both the Nun s Priest s Tale and Flush, the moral extracted from the
text comes to be more interpretive previously was the case in Henryson s work. Henryson
presented short, simple stories that explicitly told you what the purpose of the story was, giving
you the meaning that he wanted you to take. As J. Allan Mitchell stated medieval exemplary
narratives serve as guide to personal deliberation and action (3). Identically to Henryson, Chaucer
at the end of the Nun s Priest s Tale gives a moral conclusion, where through the Nun s Priest, he
states the supposed moral of the tale;

Obviously, morality gets drawn from both Flush and the Nun s Priest s Tale, however, little
significance is placed on the ethical preaching s of the texts. The purpose (Mitchell, 17) not
restricted to moral lessons, in fact purpose is not required at all. When Virginia Woolffirst began
Flush, she intended the biography merely for the amusement of one of the Bloomsbury group
(Smith, 356). While the text clearly grew in meaning during its creation, its inception was
purposeless, especially in with regards to morality. Morality was always going to be secondary
in Flush as the book is all about innovation. Like most modernist, Woolf was always trying to be
innovative and different in her work. While, the dog memoir pre exists Flush, Woolf radically
wrote the novella from the perspective of the dog, emphasising his point of view over all else
(Smith, 352). Most brilliantly, Woolf gave Flush an almost human understanding all the while
remaining specifically distinct from his owners. Take for example Flush s understanding of his
class as a dog. Class is a human, racial, and economic creation which Flush understands in his own
way; Flush knew before the summer had passed that there is no equality among dogs: some dogs
are high dogs; some are low (Woolf, 19). This specific human understanding coupled with his
human relief when he realises

Smoking Persuasive Essay
Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only
damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the
toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in
the United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of
smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be
banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which
leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and
inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems.
Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart
attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account
of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize
smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the
whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye
perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a
path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been
since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is

Classical And Operant Conditioning
The behavioral model is the study of measurable, observable behavior and the way in which the
environment determines behavior. Yet, initially, most behaviorists adopted a rather extreme view
that it was impossible to scientifically measure mental process, thereby leaving observable
behavior as a psychologists only unit of analysis (Lehmiler, 2014, p. 11). The behavioral approach
was a radical departure from the dominant psychoanalytic approach leaning toward the side of
nurture and giving most of the attention to experience. The behavioral model aims to ameliorate
the behavioral problems or seek to alter behavior, this model increase control of the individual over
themselves or their environment. Corey (2016), stated the behavioral theory differed for other
therapeutic approaches in its application of principles of classical and operant conditioning(p. 233).
The classical conditioning refers to to what happens prior to learning that creates a response through
pairing (Corey, 2016, p. 235). A key figure in this learning theory is Pavlov, who conducted the
famous dog s experiment. The classical conditioning involves a particular unconditioned stimulus
that produces a specific unconditioned response, and then the original (unconditioned) stimulus is
paired frequently enough with a new conditioned stimulus that does produce identical trained
behavior. Later, both stimulus will provoke the same response autonomously.
From a broader perspective, the classical conditioning

Goldilocks Lab
he Goldilocks lab: Conclusion and Reflection
Conclusion:
The hypothesis stated was proven correct. It was hypothesized that if the distance between a light
source and a thermometer increases, then the temperature decreases. For the experiment, four
thermometers were placed 20 centimeters, 40 centimeters, 60 centimeters, and 80 centimeters away
from a lamp. The temperature of every thermometer was recorded at every minute for 10 minutes.
The data collected from the lab supports the hypothesis stated. At the beginning of the experiment,
the temperature of every thermometer at 0 minutes was between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
Halfway through the experiment at 5 minutes, the thermometer 20 centimeters away from the lamp

Knowing that the closer an object is to a heat source the greater its temperature is, data from the
last experiment can be used to form a hypothesis for the second part of the lab. In the next
experiment, a heat source would be on for 10 minutes and a prediction would be made for which
distance from the source would hit 28 degrees Celsius after 10 minutes. The hypothesis stated was
proven correct. It was hypothesized that if after 10 minutes a target temperature of 28 degrees
Celsius had to be reached, then it would be reached at 30 centimeters away from the heat source.
This is because the data from the first experiment stated that at 10 minutes, the thermometer 20
centimeters away from the lamp read 34 degrees Celsius, and the thermometer 40 centimeters away
from the lamp read 27 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the hypothesis was based on the data from the
first experiment. The data collected from the second experiment supported the hypothesis stated.
Before the lamp was turned on, the thermometer read 20 degrees Celsius. It was placed 30
centimeters away from the lamp. At 5 minutes, the thermometer read 28 degrees Celsius. At 10
minutes, the thermometer read 28 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the

Roman Empire Vs Greek Empire
The Roman Empire versus the Greek Empire
Introduction
The Greece and the Roman empires are considered to be amongst the most powerful empires in
history as their impact is still felt some 2000 years after they were conquered. The Greece Empire
is said to have lasted for approximately 350 years while the Roman Empire is said to have lasted for
between 500 and 1500 years based on how one interprets the rule of the Romans (Ahbel Rappe
530). Over time, there has been a debate on which of the two empires was strong than the other
based on the impacts to the ancient world. From the debates, it has been noted that some
individuals hold on to the fact that the Romans managed to develop a world that the Greeks only
dreamed about while others have maintained that the Greeks had built a better world than the
Romans (Roisman 410). Based on my knowledge of the two empires, I think the Romans were
better than the Greeks thus making the Greeks to dream of building a world similar to that of
Romans. As such, this paper will give points for and against my claim.
Why the Greeks dreamt of the Roman World
There are some reasons that are given to explain why the Greeks dreamt of having what the Romans
had built over time. Firstly, it is important to note that the Greeks are the people who invented
philosophy and science. On the other hand, despite having great philosophers and scientists, the
Romans produced engineers, administrators, and architects, unlike the Greeks. As a result of this,

The Slingshot Is A Weapon Used By People For Generations

Background Research.
The slingshot is a weapon used by people for generations. It was originally just a strapped sling
used to propel rocks. It usually was used as a lightweight hunting weapon and sometimes for
defense (Yoder.) People had used it by rapidly spinning the string and letting it go, sending the
rock flying at high speeds. It wasn t until the mid 1800 s that the traditional slingshot we all
know of today came into play (Yoder.) It was a y shaped stick with two elastic bands tied
between two endpoints at either of the upper ends of the Y. It is a seemingly simple machine,
where all you have to do to be able to use it was point, pull, and release. This is what made them
ideal for children to play with in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. However, slingshots are not as
simple as people originally thought. Slingshots have a lot of scientific and mathematical concepts
that are the reason it was such a useful weapon back in the day and a great form of entertainment
today.
The history of the slingshot is not what most people expect. As stated earlier, the earliest form
of the slingshot is the strapped sling. One of the earliest accounts of a single sling being used
was in The Bible s David and Goliath, where David slung a rock at Goliath. Sadly, this was
highly inefficient due to its lack of accuracy and even though it is light, you had to spin it around
to pick up enough speed to be able to

Cardiovascular medicine is one of the fastest growing area of study in the medical field. Many

Along with the advancements comes a greater understanding of the diseases, disorders and defects

[Bailliard, OJRD] Fallot s contributions gave way to significant advances in understanding the
defects and how this disrupted the correct blood flow throughout the body. Fallot is responsible
for discovering that while, usually only one of the defects occurs, rarely, the cyanotic patient
will present with two or more, then most common of the four defects being the deviated septum
and the pulmonary artery stenosis. When a ventricular septum defect occurs, a mixing of oxygen
rich and oxygen poor blood takes place. A ventricular septum defect is a hole in the septum, or
the wall between the left and right chambers of the heart. This hole happens to be in between the
lower two chambers, or ventricles. The left ventricle receives oxygen rich blood from the lungs,
while the right ventricle houses the oxygen poor blood from the body. The purpose of the
separation by the septum is to prevent a mixture of the blood. Therefore, as long as there is a
defect preventing the separation, the heart will continue to pump a mixture of the blood to the rest
of the body. This causes the cells of the body to not receive all of the required oxygen that it would
normally obtain with a fully intact septum, thus causing the cyanotic, or blue, appearance of the
patient. The second most commonly occurring defect is that of pulmonary stenosis. This affects
two areas; the

from depression being separated from Bryan, but that is of course my speculation. Anyhow, in
my opinion, this is the best example of social awareness and intelligence recognizing and showing

excitement about finally being reunited with Bryan. The main reason I choose this video was that

largely been reduced and blacks are more able to live freely as American citizens. In Early 1950

blacks decided to rally together for social justice and planned a boycott. This boycott became

These laws were applied to the use of everything such as, bathrooms, water fountains, restaurants
and buses. The enforcement of the Jim Crow laws was one of the key factors for the Montgomery
Bus Boycott, initiated by determined black women. People today know Rosa Parks as the pivotal
for the main cause of Montgomery Bus Boycott, but it was not just her, it was also Claudette
Colvin. She was one of the four women who got arrested nine months before Parks in March
1955. Colvin s situation was similar to Parks; Colvin refused to give up her seat to a white
passenger on a Montgomery bus . Claudette was only fifteen years old at the time of the arrest.
She was also a member of the NAACP Youth Council. The NAACP wanted to test the
Montgomery Bus System by assigning black women to challenging the Jim Crow law on buses
in Montgomery, AL. After her arrest, even though she was a youth, the NAACP thought Colvin
would be their key to their rebellion, but could not happen because she later became pregnant.
During her pregnancy, Colvin testified in the Montgomery federal court on the hearing of the
Browder v. Gayle case. Her performance of that civil disobedience did not spark the bus boycott

Being married was just as important in the past as it is now ( Elizabethan Wedding Customs 1).
The main difference between marriages now and in the past is that in this case, the marriages were

Analysis Of From Russia With Love
From Russia With Love (1963), directed by Terence Young is the second film in the James Bond
movie franchise. Sean Connery and Robert Shaw headline the film s actors. This film is a spy
thriller with twists and turns and puts James Bond into a position of entrapment and must use his
brains to escape and get back to England alive. From Russia With Love is a timeless classic
through its new standards of filmmaking and characters. This movie also sets the tone for the rest
of the James Bondseries.
The first reason why this film is a classic is because of the introduction of spy gadgets for James
Bond. Bond today is partly known for his use of gadgets to get out of tough situations. This is the
first Bond film that uses these.
When Bond is getting orders to go to Turkey for his mission, he is brought a briefcase that has
hidden knives on the sides and has to be open a different way than normal in order for the opener
of the case not to be sprayed with tear gas. These tools will help him later in the film multiple
when he is in the face of danger.
This scene sets the tone not for just this film but for the many other popular movies of this
franchise through the use of gadgets. A large reason why many people enjoy James Bond is
because of astonishing use of these tools. With help of these gadgets, this movie can be considered
a classic because of the memorable fights in the film.
As with all spy films, there are going to be fight to the death scenes. Although it is predictable
who will win in these films, directors can still make these scenes very suspenseful and exciting.
Young does this exactly in this film with a very memorable fight scene that could be considered
one of the best of all films.
Bond seems to be trapped for good this time when he is in the train car with Donald Grant who
was a gun pointed at Bond. Bond starts talking to Grant and eventually convinces Grant to take
the 50 gold sovereigns. When Grant opens the briefcase, which is given to Bond with spy gadgets,
he is met with a plume of tear gas. This starts the fight as Bond gets up to take the gun. A fight
ensues, going across the small train car and eventually making Bond the winner by killing Grant.
The fight however did

radiation such as UV light and other types. The earliest composites were made with a phenolic
thermosetting matrix. Then the epoxides followed, then the ureas, the unsaturated polyesters, and
the silicons, and now there are considerably more. From the usage standpoint, the most important
materials are the first three which is phenolic, the epoxies and the unsaturated

Music And Music Therapy ( N.a.m.t ) Essay
Musical Therapy Music, even in situations of the greatest of horror, should never be painful to the
ear but should flatter and charm it, and thereby always remain music. (Mozart). Music is
pervasive in everyday life. It is used as a means of communication. It allows us to better oneself,

and the use of music. A music therapist assesses the client(s) and creates a clinical plan for
treatment in conjunction with team and client goals, which in turn determines the course of
clinical sessions. A music therapist works within a client centered, goal directed framework (How

The Downside Of Teleporting In Star Trek
Teleportation
An Introduction to Teleporting
Beam me up, Scotty!
When Star Trek was first released in 1966, teleportation was only a dream. Now a days, people
are claiming that future generations as soon as great grandchildren will be able to teleport with
ease. There are, however, many things that Star Trek hasn t prepared fans for, and although there
are many perks to teleportation, people need to weigh in the risk factors as well. The pros may
sound promising but, the cons tremendously outweigh them.
The Downside of Teleportation
This paper could go on and on about the definition of life or crap like that, however that would be
a large waste of time and space. So, with that in mind, this paper shall continue on wayward.
First of all, by teleporting, all of the atoms in the human body would essentially deconstruct and
then reconstruct in a new place. With all of this assembling and disassembling taking place, an
issue that needs to be brought up and spoken about is whether or not there would be any mixed

J.S. Mill s On Liberty
The perception of liberty has been an issue that has bewildered the human race for a long time. It
seems with every aspiring leader comes a new definition of liberty, some more realistic than others.
We have seen, though, that some tend to have a grasp of what true liberty is. One of these scholars
was the English philosopher and economist J.S. Mill. Mill s On Liberty provided a great example of
what, in his opinion, liberty is and how it is to be protected. In this essay we will examine Mill s

handicapping of society, for it is true in every aspect of life that the only way to improve is to go

important ideas out there are the unpopular ones because these are the issues that are being

The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what
ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be?
Knowing where that line is tough. Mill s answer to this is that society has jurisdiction over every
aspect of behavior that, quot;affects prejudicially the interests of others. quot; More specifically
society has no interest in the aspects of one s life that affect only the individual acting, or others,
for that matter, that are affect at their own consent. Society has no right to keep a person from
doing with his life what they wish, and it is stupid to do so their own good for nobody will every
truly know what someone else aspires to do. Though Mill rejects the concept of the social contract
he does believe that people do have obligations to the society in exchange for the protection of their
freedom. And if one acts in a manner that harms the society as a whole then they are subject to

second time in 7C/PICU but my first time shadowing Megan. It was intriguing to see how two
different CCLS s handled the same units. Through my shadowing experience and observations, I
gained knowledge of how to handle grief/bereavement situations, how to properly prioritize
patients, charting techniques, and much more. This week I was able to reflect back to my
knowledge of development so that I could better relate our coursework to my practicum
experiences. In this journal, I will focus on two main patient interactions, both, which were unique,
thought provoking, and relatable to developmental theory and coursework. I will also briefly
discuss the knowledge I gained on how a CCLS can provide support during grief and bereavement
situations.
The first interaction I observed/participated in was with an 8 year old male in the PICU who was
coping with injuries from a major automobile accident and lice. Megan and I entered the room
where the patient was playing with a remote control car. His nurse had created a racetrack out of
toys and items in his hospital room. It was refreshing to see a nurse who valued play enough to
take the time to create a playful environment for her patient. Megan swiftly built rapport, explained
her role, and offered normative play opportunities. The patient was

Interracial Jim Crow Laws
The most prevalent laws to appear not just in the South but, most of the United States dealt with
marriage, with a total of sixteen states outlawing the act. Interracial marriage was an unforgiving
crime, they were considered null and void, and could be punished by a fine and up to ten years in
jail. The laws wording varied from state to state, not just outlawing marriagebetween white and
black but also, between whites and almost any nonwhite race. One eighth of any nonwhite blood
could define a person as not white and had the ability to make marriages void in many states. The
most famous interracial marriage of this time was Mildred and Richard Loving of Virginia.

Even though the South s backwardness was on display for the entire country to see, there were
still those who refused to give up their style of life. African Americans of southern states
continued during this violent time to demand equal and fair treatment. Jim Crow laws defined
them as second class citizens, required them to continue to be subservient to whites. They were
unable to receive proper health care, they had to live in certain sections of town, and were forced
to withstand abuse of all nature without protection from law enforcement. Through these times
though, civil rights groups, such as the NAACP and movements continued to face the dangers of
a hostile Southern population. In their way stood hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the
White Citizens Council, ready to fight for their beliefs. Jim Crow laws were held up at not only
the state levels but, also, the federal government. Even through adversity, the call for real freedom
was heard. Many African American and even whites were inspired by great leaders such as Martin
Luther King, Jr. and little Linda Brown. The courage of the African American community during
Jim Crow can be summed up by Harper Lee, Real courage is...when you know you re licked before

Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis
Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to
protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading
this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that
would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher
takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the
audience in the preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the
audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to
make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is
important to understand the women s role in the Puritansociety. The Puritans believe that a woman
is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to
obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of
submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands,
as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to
Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans
studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of
submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the
consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain
favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I
would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did
when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making
another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that
Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her
husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of
wandering for the

Similarities Between Jeddrich And Gatsby
Jedediah Leland is referred to as Charles Kane s closest friend, I believe the same can be said of
Nick s relationship to Gatsby. Perhaps, in the latter s instance, not so much a friend but rather
an exceptionally close acquaintance. Nick and Leland share a few similarities, their close
connection to Gatsby and Kane respectively as well as their clear admiration and endearment
towards them. They both hold high standards for these men and are disappointed when they
realize that they are capable of human error. Jedediah and Nick are similar however, they are
more different than alike. Leland is disillusioned with Kane and eventually gives up on him.
Clearly when he sent Kane the Declaration of Principles it was as a symbol of Jedediah breaking
up with him, their friendship, their partnership, their trust. Nick, however, seems to waver at
times, but ultimately only go up on the gay for Gatsby spectrum. When Gatsby finally admits
the truth about Oxford, how he hasn t technically lied, he s just extended the truth a bit, Nick isn
t faced as he can say is he wanted to congratulate him and how he experienced a renewal of
complete faith in him which he had experienced before (Page 129). Both Leland and Nick have
significant roles in the lives of Kane and Gatsby respectively, however they are very different from
one another, perhaps this is because Kane and Gatsby too are very distinct characters. Leland starts
off as Kane s closest friend, they had many memories and

Vancouver And Halifax s Climatic Differences
In Canada, two cities with the largest populations in their respective provinces share similar and
different geographical attributes. It is interesting to observe how these attributes influence the
climates that these cities experience. On the west coast of Canada, situated on the 49th parallel
four meters above sea level, the city of Vancouver exhibits a maritime oceanic climate with
typically dry summers and wet winters. , In contrast, the city of Halifax lies on Nova Scotia s east
coast 25 meters above sea level on the 44th parallel, where it is classified by its humid continental
climate with balanced rainfall with a peak in the autumn months. , Because of their 4000 kilometer

To begin, the most major difference between these two cities are their Köppen Geiger
classification. Vancouver, being situated on the British Columbian west coast with abundant
orographic rain from the westerly winds and the Coast Mountains, receives a Cfb classification that
denotes its moderate maritime oceanic climate. On the other hand, westerly continental air, a semi
permanent Bermudan high pressure system in the summer, and various aquatic moderations gives
Halifax a Dfb classification that reflects its humid continental climate with proximity to the Nova
Scotian east coast. Another contrasting topographical aspect lies in their elevation. Observing their
airports, the Vancouver International Airport lies just four meters above sea level whereas the
Halifax Stanfield International Airport sits higher at 145 meters above sea level.1,3 Relative to
elevation, Vancouver and Halifax s surrounding orographic elevation is dissimilar. In Vancouver,
the North Shore Mountains form a 1788 meter tall terrestrial horizon, and the Coast Mountains act
as another mountain barrier. However, in Halifax, the South Mountain range is the highest

Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis Of My Existence
The Metamorphosis of Franz Kafka
A picture of my existence... would show a useless wooden stake covered in snow... stuck loosely
at a slant in the ground in a ploughed field on the edge of a vast open plain on a dark winter night .
Franz Kafka
The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung 1912), Franz Kafkas best known short story, is a master
work of incredible psychological, sociological and existential malaise. Although his points are
simple and straightforward, this richly layered and textured story is open to many interpreta tions,
making it complex, yet critical to decipher. There is an incredible amount of theories based off of
what this story could possibly symbolize or represent, but it is of the autobiographical in
terpretation that is undeniably the most enlightening. This interpretation allows the reader to gen
uinely understand the tale on an intense level that would not be able to be reached, otherwise. In
order to gain true insight on the autobiographical approach to The Metamorphosis, a brief
examination of his life is required; his thoughts, his beliefs, the acknowledgment of the cruel
circumstances of his life, especially his home life, must be made clear that the anguish of his own
world is the model for the themes in his stories. Born on July 3, 1883, in the Jewish ghetto of
Prague in the Czech Republic, Franz Kafka was the eldest son in his Jewish middle class, German
speaking, family. From the start he was shaping out to be an outsider which was

The focused low cost strategy purposed to create a price advantage for the company. Usually, a

Essay on Ashton Eaton vs. Bryan Clay
Track and field is among one of the oldest of all sports competitions, such as running, jumping,
and also throwing. Track and field started in Greece around 776 BC, and they created the 1st
example of organized track and field events with the 1st Olympic Games in Olympia, Greece. As
many years went by, track and field started to expand by inventing the Pentathlon which involved
the long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, 100m dash, and also wrestling. Years later the Decathlon
added 5 more events (400m, 1500m, hurdles, pole vault, and shot put.) This event became
worldwide very quickly and now the winner of the decathlon is known as the greatest athlete of
their time. Many decathletes such as the 2012 Olympic decathlon champion, Ashton... Show more

Ashton would also sometimes eat pasta which is his weakness in food, he says I couldn t tell
you why, but if noodles were the last food on Earth, I would be set. (Tannenbaum) Also he says
when he is not training he craves burgers... Big, fatty, American burgers from a hole in the wall
family owned restaurant . Ashton Eaton s workout is very interesting because of the different
drills he did for the different events for the decathlon. For example, something he did to get
better at high jump was play basketball; he would dribble around, shoot around, go into layups
and then try to dunk over and over so he could get the feel and rhythm of the high jump. Ashton
Eaton used to train at least five hours a day, but now it s more like three or four hours and the
quality of the workout is way better then college. He says, Spending less total time training but
really making it count is a smart way to improve. It s also easier on your body in the long run.

breakfast is a couple slices of bacon done extra crispy, one egg over hard, a small bowl of oatmeal

A tidal salt marsh is a community of plants and animals that thrive in wet saline conditions
(ADBC, 2010), which rely on the tides to bring nutrients, such as oxygen, nitrogen, and
phosphorous. As the tide leaves the wetlands, pools are exposed which shorebirds can feed on
larvae without competition from fish that was impossible during the time period of water
diversion and dam construction. The land became baron; an area of waste land, until 1967,
when the water originally diverted for irrigation of fields, was redirected to the lowland area. In
2006, a tidal inlet was successfully opened after 107 years, allowing the tide to flow to various parts
of the wetlands which had previously been closed off (ADBC, 2010).
During the process of Bolsa Chica environmental change, much has been learned about ecosystem
destruction and restoration. Wetland areas are as Wright states among the most productive
ecosystems on earth, rich in breeding grounds for many species of fish, shellfish, and waterfowl
(2008). Interfering with the natural biogeochemical cycles can have devastating effects, completely
wiping out ecosystems. Lessons learned are valuable for other restoration projects, many of which
are in progress throughout the United States (U.S.). Major learning s included, the rise in water
salinity when not allowed to mix with fresh water creates a hostile environment, making it
inhabitable by the resident community, lack of tidal rhythm reduces

The Waco Siege Ended 22
The Waco siege ended 22 years ago in a colossal fire that ended up killed 76 people including two
pregnant women and over 20 children. The siege began on February 28, 1993, when the US
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) attempted to execute a search warrant at
Mount Carmel Center ranch, a property held by religious group Branch Davidians in Waco,
Texas (leppard, 2013). The government suspected a radical religious leader David Koresh of
stock piling firearms and manufacturing drugs. The raid rose into an intense gun fight that last
lasted two hours with the result four agents and six Davidians killed in action. The FBI then
launched a long term assault while attempting to negotiate with Koresh and force him to
surrender the ranch. The siege ended on April 19, 50 days after the primary raid, when the FBI
sprung a final assault against Koresh. Three fires broke out in the building, killing 76 men,
women, and children, including sect leader Koresh. A total of 82 people died as a result of the
Waco siege(Leppard, 2013).
In the spring of 1993, the Branch Davidian Christian gained global infamy from this siege on its
compound that laid a few miles just outside of Waco. On Sunday, February 28, a violent two hour
gun battle took place leaving six Davidians and four ATF agents dead. A 51 day standoff ensued.
Amid the siege, the Branch Davidians charismatic leader, Vernon Howell, a 33 year old musician
who believed himself to be the final prophet in Christian end times

Southern Women In The Civil War Essay
Women during the Civil War were forced into life style changes which they had never dreamed
they would have to endure. No one was spared from the devastation of the war, and many lives
were changed forever. Women in the south were forced to take on the responsibilities of their
husbands, carrying on the daily responsibilities of the farm or plantation. They maintained their
homes and families while husbands and sons fought and died for their beliefs. Many women took
the advantage of their opinions being heard, and for the first time supported their cause in anyway
they could. Whether a woman was the mistress of a plantation or the wife of a yeoman farmer,
her life was defined by work. Only a small number of women, those related or... Show more content

Many women were beginning to notice changes in themselves and the other women around
them. Sallie Putnam wrote, Those who had formerly devoted themselves to gaiety and
fashionable amusements, found their only real pleasure in obedience to the demands made
upon their time and talents, in providing proper habiliments for the soldierВ… the devotee of
ease, luxury and idle enjoyment, found herself transformed into the busy seamstress
(Confederate, 26). Before the war women who lived in or near cities could, if status and funding
permitted, lead slightly easier lives than rural women. General stores lined the streets, selling all
types of merchandise, from sewing machines to washboards. Newspapers advertised both ready
made clothing and the services of expert seamstresses and milliners. Produce grown in backyard
gardens was available for purchase, and local farmers carted their surplus into town. Churches,
schools, and theaters offered social and cultural outlets. The sociable elite enjoyed dinner and
card parties (Grander, 5). Once the war began many women were forced to give up the simple
luxuries they were once accustomed to. The daily things that women used became scarce, and
many women were forced to sell, or barter their personal property. Before the war many women of
high society often wore elaborate dresses made of silk and lace, but as basic goods became more

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross Theory Of Grieving
The theory of grief and loss was developed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross (1969) to apply to people
who are grieving as well as those that are dying. Different people deal with grief differently but
according to Kubler Ross suggested that when people grieve they will go through these stages;
denial, anger, bargaining, depressionand acceptance. Sometimes loss is expected and sometime it
is a surprise to people. The first stage; denial is about the person who is grieving will feel numb
and shocked and would not be willing to accept that their loved one has passed away or is
terminally ill (Kubler Ross, 1969). This relates to Jason Martins who has lost his mother due to an
illness. This theory was used to be able to understand how Jason is feeling... Show more content on

Social workers can improve empowerment to a grieving person by ensuring that they have the
support that they need (Parkes, 1986/2007) this includes support from the community and
neighbours as this experience will offer the bereaved person encouragement to continue living their
life. When service users are grieving they are vulnerable therefore social workers should establish
their professional relationship with them using honesty and transparency (PCF domain 2 Values
and Ethics) therefore, the client does not identify their social worker as a personal friend. Social
workers can prevent oppression and discrimination by ensuring that anti oppressive and anti
discriminatory policies are in place (PCF domain 3 Diversity) and they should ensure that they are
aware of the challenges that service users face due to their emotional state and their identity.
The grief and loss theory has been criticised by Corr et al (1997) who stated that there is not real
life evidence to prove that people do go through the stages one (1) to stage five (5). Also the
theory was criticised for not acknowledging the limitations of the model, for example, people do
not always go through all the five (5) stages. Another criticism of the theory is that using the word
stage to describe the grieving process implies how inconsiderate it is as it forces the bereaved to
internalise their feelings waiting for that stage to pass which will affect their life in the long

TITLE OF PAPER Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism are religions that developed in the East.
Although each of these religions possess characteristics unique to itself, they share one thing in
common in that they are all religions. Their classification as religions depend on the definition of
the word: religion. Webster s Dictionary defines religion as The outward act or form by which
men indicate their recognition of the existence of a god or of gods having power over their
destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due. Frederick Streng s attempt to define
religion as, a process whereby people reach beyond themselves to connect with the true and ... Show

Buddhists certainly recognize the existence of gods, and they practice many outward acts and
forms to show this. Buddhists show their obedience, service, and honor to the Buddha, who is not a
god, by memorizing and preaching his teachings, praying to him, dedicating temples and rituals to
him, and making offerings to him. This is Webster s lone strong point in its definition of religion
regarding Buddhism, and it fails to hold true. The Gautama Buddha claimed that people should
not worship him, because he is now in Nirvana gone from existence. Therefore, there is no true
obedience, service, or honor that is due to the Buddha or any god in Buddhism, because they
have no power over one s destiny. If one were to exclude having power over their destiny, to
whom obedience, service, and honor are due from Webster s definition, then perhaps Buddhism
could be a religion according to Webster. This is certainly not the case in Buddhism. Gods do not
hold any power over any being s destiny outside of their own. The good or bad karma a being
generates is the destiny one constructs for itself. These myopic flaws of Webster s definition are
impossible to ignore; based on its definition, Buddhism would not be a religion, and its definition
would relegates Buddhism to nothing more than practices that appear to be religious but are

Thesis Statement In this research paper, the author will examine the theology of the Emerging
Church and discuss the dangers this kind of Christianity threatens on the church as a whole. The
Need for the Study For many years, preachers and teachers have warned congregations about a
church that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12).
It has been said in casual conversation that the Emerging Church is a modern day effort to
transform the church into a place that is accepting of all truths and all faiths no matter their origin.
If this is true, it could bring interesting challenges to the true church that was launched on the Day
of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. 2 Timothy 4:3 4 says, 3 For the

  • 2. Essay On J. H. Picard Othello What is the cruelest way to punish a man: to kill him, or to rob him of everything he loves? To imprison him, or strip him of all sense, morals and honor? J.H. Picard s production of Othello explored these questions and more in a tale of love, deception, and hatred. Written by the king of theater himself, William Shakespeare, Othello unfolds in an Italy overrun by misogyny and racism. When the Moorish general Othello denies his aide, Iago, a promotion and marries a girl who has blatantly betrayed her father, Iago becomes determined to seek his revenge. How so? By manipulation and a bag full of the seeds of doubt, just waiting to be sown. In a unique blend of modern and classical styles, J.H. Picard brought a level of energy to the stage that no ordinary group of Shakespearean actors could. Although some lines were missed by the audience due to rushed dialogue, the cast used clever gestures and voices to vocalize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each word effortlessly rolled off his tongue in excellent Shakespearean diction, giving the impression of a strong, scheming character. Alongside him was Jonah Lechot as the play s namesake, Othello. He was expressive and bold in his performance, making his presence known from the moment he stepped on stage. Although the play focused primarily on male characters, some of the most notable performances emerged from the female roles. The wives of Othello and Iago, Desdemona and Emilia respectively, were confident and charming in their roles. In song, in speech, and even in death, their interactions were continually heartwarming and heartbreaking. While the leads enchanted the audience at the front of the stage, the ensemble of young women, consisting of Maddison Kingham, Daisy Brazil and Neressa Wimberly, brought humor and sass to the show, never once dropping character. They undoubtedly became a refreshing relief from the melancholic mood of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The United States And Its Impact On The Nation... There are many challenges when it comes to rebuilding failing states and retraining their militaries. The practice is done for the purposes of advancement of political objectives, also the attempt to provide stability within a hostile region, saving a fragile nation from collapse, and to provide support to oppressed groups and populations aligned with similar value structures. It is not a new policy tactic for the United States, there have been several cases where America has played a big role in nation reconstruction and redeveloping regional armed forces. While there have been some successful campaigns in these efforts to fight insurgency, improve conditions in regional civil conflicts, and stabilize areas, it has not always been effective policy. The United States has had a pretty varied legacy with these types of interventions. From different case examples, it can be concluded that when a liberator is rebuilding a state or a military, and is dealing with a population that is multi ethnic and has deep religious divisions, the effort is probably more likely to fail than to succeed. Further research also indicated that acting multilaterally produced much better results with nation reconstruction/intervention. Usually, during intervention campaigns, short term goals were reached, although there are often issues with achieving long term goals of peace and stability. Some scholars have acknowledged that some attempts at saving failing states have resulted in governments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Literature Formalism The Hershey Bar of Criticism Formalism means a lot of different things to a lot of different people and refers to many different types of critical work and analysis. But to make a complicated matter simple, we can say pretty safely that formalism refers to critics or criticism that, first and foremost, emphasize the form or structure of a work of art and assume that nothing in that form or structure is really accidental or insignificant. That is, the formal elements in a work of art all mean something, in relation to one another and to us. By looking at the architecture of art how it is constructed, what its elements are, how they fit together, why they are there, and where they lead formalism assumes that we will make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, what we mean by form can range widely not just between different works of art but within a single work of art as well. For example, when examining a literary text, we may talk about plot as a formal element by discussing its characters and their actions, and then we may focus on characters and actions as formal elements by analyzing voice and motivation. In turn, we may then decide to study voice and motivation as formal elements by considering things like word choice , feeling, or theme. And so on and so on. Plot, character, action, voice, motivation, feelings, themes when and where does a formalist analysis begin, and where does it end? Some answer this question by saying it ends just before it reaches the real world. Formalist critics are sometimes thought to ignore the real world in favor of the representational world that the work of art creates, looking only at its intricate internal structures and landscapes. But formalist analyses often go hand in hand with different types of criticism or concerns. For example, studying how and when certain characters are introduced into a plot might lead to claims that sound more like feminist criticism than formalist criticism. Similarly, someone studying those thumb prints on the vase might end up asking us to rethink a few of our historical or anthropological assumptions about a particular group of people who worked and played within a particular cultural context. Its ability to sustain distances of up to two miles at speeds of up to 35 mph also makes it one of the fastest creatures on the planet. At the racetrack, they are trained to do one thing, run as fast as they can for as long as they can against others horses that are trained to do the same thing. Given the high costs of maintaining an active racehorse, every horse is generally required to support themselves by running fast enough to win races and collect purses. • 7. Weaknesses Of The French Crown Importance of the Weaknesses of the French Crown in Explaining the Outbreak of the French Wars of Religion in 1562 Previously France had been ruled by Henry II, a strong experienced ruler. It was, however, an unfortunate jousting accident lead to the swift decline of the French monarchy. Henry s successor, Francis II, was only fifteen years old on his accession to the throne in 1559. He was inexperienced and easily manipulated. Charles IX, a ten year old who relied upon the help of Catherine de Medici, his regent, then succeeded him. It was this new weak monarchy that acted as a catalyst for the many underlying problems that had been previously controlled. The weaknesses of the monarchy allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Francis Duke of Guise quickly assumed control of the army, church and foreign affairs. The Montmorency family had been stripped of office. The sudden shift of power towards the Guise family heightened tensions between the aristocratic factions. The monarchy in France operated through a clientage system. The King was at the apex and he would give money and protection to the clientage beneath him, who, in return would offer the king loyalty. Those beneath him included large aristocratic families and below these families were the nobility, and further down still, the lesser nobility. The three aristocratic families were therefore reliant on the nobility below them in the system for support. In return they would give offices and jobs to their clients. Due to a weak monarchy this clientage system broke down. The clientage system was a good way of exercising control over the major aristocratic families. However, in order for such a system to function there needed to be a strong monarch and a large sum of money, neither of which were available in 1559. After the vast amount of money spent in the Hapsburg Valios wars the royal treasury was drained of resources. The monarchy not only lacked a strong ruler but was also economically weak. It meant that the King could no longer keep the aristocratic families under control by the means of the clientage system. The Guise s, who had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why Is Paul Revere Important The person I chose for my topic, who is the well known silver/goldsmith, Paul Revere, is quite important to understanding the American Revolutionary War. Revere is considered by some to be the kick starter of this revolution (Paul Revere, Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia.), so essentially, if you are able to understand him, you are able to understand the American Revolution. In the following essay, I will explain to you who Paul Revere is, and his importance. Revere was born around the time of December 21, 1734, to January of 1735, which is relatively close. In his early years, before his famous ride, he worked for his father to help support his rather large family. As time passed, he grew up, and British Reprimands changed as well, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, It was his ride on April 18, 1775, that etched his name into history. (Biography.com.) It was a brisk night that had indirectly been prepared for a while. A messenger that the redcoats were coming informed Revere, and within moments he was knocking on Dr. Joseph Warrens door. Warren then informed Revere of the British numbers, being 700 1000. After this talk with Warren, Revere set off to find Robert Newman who was sexton of the church, and told him if the British are coming by land to hang one lantern in the steeple of the Old North Church, and two if they were coming by sea. When Revere saw the signal of two lanterns hanging, he quickly went to Charles River, where he boated past the British in stealth mode, landing in Charlestown. Revere rode through Charlestown to Lexington warning the Minutemen (David, Lester. The story behind Paul Revere s Famous ride. Boy s life,) whom were the colonists packing artillery if this situation were to occur. It was said for many years Revere yelled, The British are coming! which was incorrect. Quoting a very wise Dr. Keefer, it would not make sense taking into account that Paul himself was British. Therefore it was determined he shouted, The Regulars are out! When Revere finally reached Lexington, Bill Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott joined in his ride. Along the way to Concord, a British officer stopped them, in which Revere was captured, but Prescott Dawes were able to escape. However, it was too late. Revere was able to escape, and he had heard firing in which the American Revolutionary War had just begun. (David, Lester. The story behind Paul Revere s Famous ride. Boy s ... Analysis of a Television Advertisement Aimed at Raising Awareness on the Issue of Road Safety In order to analyse the advertisement, it is necessary to look at the different techniques used throughout. The advertisement has been created in order to promote road safety, and is from a series of advertisements called THINK! The specific advert I am to analyse is called Backwards , and deals with the decision of whether or not to wear seatbelts whilst travelling in a car. Different techniques used in the advertisement are employed in order to increase effectiveness, these are as follows; the meaning behind the visuals of the advertisement, the target audience and how it raises the audiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is very the ultimate goal of the advertisement that the meaning comes across very clearly, and also that this message be a lasting one. Wearing a seatbelt became the law in 1983, therefore the advert is not only for to raise awareness and show that seatbelts save lives, but it is also to demonstrate that you are breaking the law as well by not wearing one. Obviously being a road safety advertisement, the target audience of the advertisement is any drivers and passengers that use cars either on a regular basis or sporadically. An important factor to consider when appealing to a certain audience is the time that the advertisement is shown each day, how often that it is shown and the language that is used throughout the advertisement. It is important that the target can relate to the tone or features of the advert, if they are to take anything away from it. This particular advertisement was shown up to 25 times a day. It was also part of a series shown on television intermittently throughout the year. This means that the advertisement will be shown at the start of the year for 3 weeks, then at the end of the year for a further 3 weeks. Essay about Student-Centered Learning Student Centered Learning missing works cited Definition(s) There are several ways that student centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to the same basic idea, the student. First, student centered learning can be defined as a discipline that involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the classroom, just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the definition of student centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the focus, and the teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on the system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students future accomplishment. The first approach of student centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called the Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were some students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the textbook approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students were randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used in both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: exploration, concept introduction and concept application . During these three phases the students worked together in groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the teacher would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas and situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could lead the lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together and the groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman, Barman 1996). Dinan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Resilience Theory Applied For A Chance Essay Resilience Theory Applied to A Chance in the World Anthony Shohan Bridgewater State University Resilience, in its simplest form, is the ability for someone or something to recover after an action has occurred against them or it, whether it be an emotional and/or physical action (Earvolino Ramirez 2007; Dyer McGuinness 1996). Resilience is defined, more directly, as the positive end of the distribution of developmental outcomes among individuals at high risk (Luthar et al., 2000 pg. 3). When resilience is dovetailed with the ideals of social work or psychology, resilience can be the determining factor in the future of an individual. In the realm of social work, resilience theory can be applied to individuals as a way to formulate whether or not that individual was or will be successful in life. Resilience theory focuses on the strengths of individuals. Like most theories used in social work and psychology, there are both the strengths of the theories as well as the limitations of the theories. Resilience theory cannot escape this trend. There are numerous strengths and, in contrast, limitations with resilience theory. Luthar, Cicchetti, and Becker (2000) identify a limitation of resilience theory with the idea that even though a child is thriving in their current time, as time goes on, their ability to continue adapting decreases. Luthar et al. (2000) continue to note that the majority of studies conducted on resilience are mainly empirical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His diplomatic course of action proved to have been in vain in an attempt to gain compromise and peace between America and Mexico. Regardless of the attempts made by the American government to peacefully coerce Mexicoto relinquish the land, America was denied each and every time. Military presence was necessary in order to facilitate a greater respect from Mexico and to also offer additional protection for the Americans residing in Texas at the time; it was not meant by any means to act as a threat towards the Mexican government. Provided these facts, it can be assumed that the Mexican War was not an exercise in American imperialism, but rather, was instigated by the increasing fear felt by the Mexican government due to the lack of power within their own boundaries; this fear was further perpetrated by the fact that Mexico owed America money but could not pay, Mexico stepped onto American soil and fired the first shots, and that the majority of residents residing in Texas were in fact American citizens. Knowing that the internal framework of the Mexican government was very unstable, Polk guarded the borders with troops in order to intimidate them into complying with Congress s request not to engage in war. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems. Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. Yet, initially, most behaviorists adopted a rather extreme view that it was impossible to scientifically measure mental process, thereby leaving observable behavior as a psychologists only unit of analysis (Lehmiler, 2014, p. 11). The behavioral approach was a radical departure from the dominant psychoanalytic approach leaning toward the side of nurture and giving most of the attention to experience. The behavioral model aims to ameliorate the behavioral problems or seek to alter behavior, this model increase control of the individual over themselves or their environment. Corey (2016), stated the behavioral theory differed for other therapeutic approaches in its application of principles of classical and operant conditioning(p. 233). The classical conditioning refers to to what happens prior to learning that creates a response through pairing (Corey, 2016, p. 235). A key figure in this learning theory is Pavlov, who conducted the famous dog s experiment. The classical conditioning involves a particular unconditioned stimulus that produces a specific unconditioned response, and then the original (unconditioned) stimulus is paired frequently enough with a new conditioned stimulus that does produce identical trained behavior. Later, both stimulus will provoke the same response autonomously. From a broader perspective, the classical conditioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roman Empire Vs Greek Empire The Roman Empire versus the Greek Empire Introduction The Greece and the Roman empires are considered to be amongst the most powerful empires in history as their impact is still felt some 2000 years after they were conquered. The Greece Empire is said to have lasted for approximately 350 years while the Roman Empire is said to have lasted for between 500 and 1500 years based on how one interprets the rule of the Romans (Ahbel Rappe 530). Over time, there has been a debate on which of the two empires was strong than the other based on the impacts to the ancient world. From the debates, it has been noted that some individuals hold on to the fact that the Romans managed to develop a world that the Greeks only dreamed about while others have maintained that the Greeks had built a better world than the Romans (Roisman 410). The slingshot is a weapon used by people for generations. It was originally just a strapped sling used to propel rocks. It usually was used as a lightweight hunting weapon and sometimes for defense (Yoder.) People had used it by rapidly spinning the string and letting it go, sending the rock flying at high speeds. It wasn t until the mid 1800 s that the traditional slingshot we all know of today came into play (Yoder.) It was a y shaped stick with two elastic bands tied between two endpoints at either of the upper ends of the Y. It is a seemingly simple machine, where all you have to do to be able to use it was point, pull, and release. This is what made them ideal for children to play with in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. However, slingshots are not as simple as people originally thought. Slingshots have a lot of scientific and mathematical concepts that are the reason it was such a useful weapon back in the day and a great form of entertainment today. The history of the slingshot is not what most people expect. As stated earlier, the earliest form of the slingshot is the strapped sling. One of the earliest accounts of a single sling being used was in The Bible s David and Goliath, where David slung a rock at Goliath. [Bailliard, OJRD] Fallot s contributions gave way to significant advances in understanding the defects and how this disrupted the correct blood flow throughout the body. Fallot is responsible for discovering that while, usually only one of the defects occurs, rarely, the cyanotic patient will present with two or more, then most common of the four defects being the deviated septum and the pulmonary artery stenosis. When a ventricular septum defect occurs, a mixing of oxygen rich and oxygen poor blood takes place. A ventricular septum defect is a hole in the septum, or the wall between the left and right chambers of the heart. This hole happens to be in between the lower two chambers, or ventricles. The left ventricle receives oxygen rich blood from the lungs, while the right ventricle houses the oxygen poor blood from the body. The purpose of the separation by the septum is to prevent a mixture of the blood. Therefore, as long as there is a defect preventing the separation, the heart will continue to pump a mixture of the blood to the rest of the body. This causes the cells of the body to not receive all of the required oxygen that it would normally obtain with a fully intact septum, thus causing the cyanotic, or blue, appearance of the patient. Now, in the 20th century, segregation has been abolished and discrimination has largely been reduced and blacks are more able to live freely as American citizens. In Early 1950 s, blacks did not have civil rights, so they had to fight for their freedom by protesting. In 1955, blacks decided to rally together for social justice and planned a boycott. This boycott became known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott was pivotal in the Civil Right Movement by energizing blacks, particularly in the South, to become more involved in politics. The enforcement of the Jim Crow laws was one of the key factors for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, initiated by determined black women. People today know Rosa Parks as the pivotal for the main cause of Montgomery Bus Boycott, but it was not just her, it was also Claudette Colvin. She was one of the four women who got arrested nine months before Parks in March 1955. Colvin s situation was similar to Parks; Colvin refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery bus . Claudette was only fifteen years old at the time of the arrest. She was also a member of the NAACP Youth Council. The NAACP wanted to test the Montgomery Bus System by assigning black women to challenging the Jim Crow law on buses in Montgomery, AL. After her arrest, even though she was a youth, the NAACP thought Colvin would be their key to their rebellion, but could not happen because she later became pregnant. During her pregnancy, Colvin testified in the Montgomery federal court on the hearing of the Browder v. Gayle case. Her performance of that civil disobedience did not spark the bus boycott as Parks did, but did started something that Rosa Parks finished. The elevation of the bus conflict increased on December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white person. There was a law that allowed white bus drivers to expand the whites ... • 34. Analysis Of From Russia With Love From Russia With Love (1963), directed by Terence Young is the second film in the James Bond movie franchise. Sean Connery and Robert Shaw headline the film s actors. This film is a spy thriller with twists and turns and puts James Bond into a position of entrapment and must use his brains to escape and get back to England alive. From Russia With Love is a timeless classic through its new standards of filmmaking and characters. This movie also sets the tone for the rest of the James Bondseries. The first reason why this film is a classic is because of the introduction of spy gadgets for James Bond. Bond today is partly known for his use of gadgets to get out of tough situations. This is the first Bond film that uses these. When Bond is getting orders to go to Turkey for his mission, he is brought a briefcase that has hidden knives on the sides and has to be open a different way than normal in order for the opener of the case not to be sprayed with tear gas. These tools will help him later in the film multiple when he is in the face of danger. This scene sets the tone not for just this film but for the many other popular movies of this franchise through the use of gadgets. A large reason why many people enjoy James Bond is because of astonishing use of these tools. With help of these gadgets, this movie can be considered a classic because of the memorable fights in the film. As with all spy films, there are going to be fight to the death scenes. Although it is predictable who will win in these films, directors can still make these scenes very suspenseful and exciting. Young does this exactly in this film with a very memorable fight scene that could be considered one of the best of all films. Bond seems to be trapped for good this time when he is in the train car with Donald Grant who was a gun pointed at Bond. Bond starts talking to Grant and eventually convinces Grant to take the 50 gold sovereigns. When Grant opens the briefcase, which is given to Bond with spy gadgets, he is met with a plume of tear gas. This starts the fight as Bond gets up to take the gun. The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be? Through my shadowing experience and observations, I gained knowledge of how to handle grief/bereavement situations, how to properly prioritize patients, charting techniques, and much more. This week I was able to reflect back to my knowledge of development so that I could better relate our coursework to my practicum experiences. In this journal, I will focus on two main patient interactions, both, which were unique, thought provoking, and relatable to developmental theory and coursework. • 43. Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the women s role in the Puritansociety. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her husband. Three fires broke out in the building, killing 76 men, women, and children, including sect leader Koresh. A total of 82 people died as a result of the Waco siege(Leppard, 2013). In the spring of 1993, the Branch Davidian Christian gained global infamy from this siege on its compound that laid a few miles just outside of Waco. On Sunday, February 28, a violent two hour gun battle took place leaving six Davidians and four ATF agents dead. A 51 day standoff ensued. Amid the siege, the Branch Davidians charismatic leader, Vernon Howell, a 33 year old musician who believed himself to be the final prophet in Christian end times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Southern Women In The Civil War Essay Women during the Civil War were forced into life style changes which they had never dreamed they would have to endure. No one was spared from the devastation of the war, and many lives were changed forever. Women in the south were forced to take on the responsibilities of their husbands, carrying on the daily responsibilities of the farm or plantation. They maintained their homes and families while husbands and sons fought and died for their beliefs. Many women took the advantage of their opinions being heard, and for the first time supported their cause in anyway they could. Whether a woman was the mistress of a plantation or the wife of a yeoman farmer, her life was defined by work. Only a small number of women, those related or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many women were beginning to notice changes in themselves and the other women around them. Sallie Putnam wrote, Those who had formerly devoted themselves to gaiety and fashionable amusements, found their only real pleasure in obedience to the demands made upon their time and talents, in providing proper habiliments for the soldierВ… the devotee of ease, luxury and idle enjoyment, found herself transformed into the busy seamstress (Confederate, 26). Before the war women who lived in or near cities could, if status and funding permitted, lead slightly easier lives than rural women. General stores lined the streets, selling all types of merchandise, from sewing machines to washboards. Newspapers advertised both ready made clothing and the services of expert seamstresses and milliners. Produce grown in backyard gardens was available for purchase, and local farmers carted their surplus into town. Churches, schools, and theaters offered social and cultural outlets. The sociable elite enjoyed dinner and card parties (Grander, 5). Once the war began many women were forced to give up the simple luxuries they were once accustomed to. The daily things that women used became scarce, and many women were forced to sell, or barter their personal property. Before the war many women of high society often wore elaborate dresses made of silk and lace, but as basic goods became more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross Theory Of Grieving The theory of grief and loss was developed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross (1969) to apply to people who are grieving as well as those that are dying. Different people deal with grief differently but according to Kubler Ross suggested that when people grieve they will go through these stages; denial, anger, bargaining, depressionand acceptance. Sometimes loss is expected and sometime it is a surprise to people. The first stage; denial is about the person who is grieving will feel numb and shocked and would not be willing to accept that their loved one has passed away or is terminally ill (Kubler Ross, 1969). This relates to Jason Martins who has lost his mother due to an illness. This theory was used to be able to understand how Jason is feeling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social workers can improve empowerment to a grieving person by ensuring that they have the support that they need (Parkes, 1986/2007) this includes support from the community and neighbours as this experience will offer the bereaved person encouragement to continue living their life. When service users are grieving they are vulnerable therefore social workers should establish their professional relationship with them using honesty and transparency (PCF domain 2 Values and Ethics) therefore, the client does not identify their social worker as a personal friend. Social workers can prevent oppression and discrimination by ensuring that anti oppressive and anti discriminatory policies are in place (PCF domain 3 Diversity) and they should ensure that they are aware of the challenges that service users face due to their emotional state and their identity. The grief and loss theory has been criticised by Corr et al (1997) who stated that there is not real life evidence to prove that people do go through the stages one (1) to stage five (5). Also the theory was criticised for not acknowledging the limitations of the model, for example, people do not always go through all the five (5) stages. Another criticism of the theory is that using the word stage to describe the grieving process implies how inconsiderate it is as it forces the bereaved to internalise their feelings waiting for that stage to pass which will affect their life in the long ... • 54. Rn 1320 Unit 1 Research Paper TITLE OF PAPER John Lee 7725719 RLGN 1320 A01 November 21st, 2014 TITLE OF PAPER Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism are religions that developed in the East. Although each of these religions possess characteristics unique to itself, they share one thing in common in that they are all religions. Their classification as religions depend on the definition of the word: religion. Webster s Dictionary defines religion as The outward act or form by which men indicate their recognition of the existence of a god or of gods having power over their destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due. Frederick Streng s attempt to define religion as, a process whereby people reach beyond themselves to connect with the true and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buddhists certainly recognize the existence of gods, and they practice many outward acts and forms to show this. Buddhists show their obedience, service, and honor to the Buddha, who is not a god, by memorizing and preaching his teachings, praying to him, dedicating temples and rituals to him, and making offerings to him. This is Webster s lone strong point in its definition of religion regarding Buddhism, and it fails to hold true. The Gautama Buddha claimed that people should not worship him, because he is now in Nirvana gone from existence. Therefore, there is no true obedience, service, or honor that is due to the Buddha or any god in Buddhism, because they have no power over one s destiny. If one were to exclude having power over their destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due from Webster s definition, then perhaps Buddhism could be a religion according to Webster. This is certainly not the case in Buddhism. Gods do not hold any power over any being s destiny outside of their own. The good or bad karma a being generates is the destiny one constructs for itself. These myopic flaws of Webster s definition are impossible to ignore; based on its definition, Buddhism would not be a religion, and its definition would relegates Buddhism to nothing more than practices that appear to be religious but are ... • 55. Emerging Church Research Paper Thesis Statement In this research paper, the author will examine the theology of the Emerging Church and discuss the dangers this kind of Christianity threatens on the church as a whole. The Need for the Study For many years, preachers and teachers have warned congregations about a church that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). It has been said in casual conversation that the Emerging Church is a modern day effort to transform the church into a place that is accepting of all truths and all faiths no matter their origin. If this is true, it could bring interesting challenges to the true church that was launched on the Day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. 2 Timothy 4:3 4 says, 3 For the ... • 56. Helen Keller Obstacles A person with devastating handicaps is like a three year old who cannot reach the chocolate chip cookies. He knows exactly what he wants, but his goal seems impossible to achieve. Helen Keller, a young woman who became blind and deaf at an early age, knew she wanted to communicate and overcame what some might have considered impossible obstacles. After analyzing several online biographies, it is clear that Helen Kellerwas a woman who refused to accept defeat. Helen Keller, even though blind and deaf, proved to be a very intelligent child. For example, after Keller lost her sight and hearing at only 19 months of age, she did not learn to communicate until Annie Sullivan arrived at the Keller home on March 3, 1887 (Daniels).
