Shot Angles
The high angleis when the camera is positioned abovethe person (lookingdown on them). It is often used to
portray how big/small someoneor something is.It can also beused to portray a character as weak and
vulnerable.Similarly, thelow angleis also used to portray a character’s importance. The lowangle is the
oppositeto the high angleso instead of the camera being above the person it is below them instead. This
often means that a character is powerful hence why you are lookingup to them.
The close up shot is when the camera is zoomed in someone’s face. This angle is often used to showa
character’s facial expression or features. Similarly, the extreme close up is when the camera is zoomed into a
particular part of someone’s face (eyes are most common). This shot is often used to draw attention to certain
features and build tension before a big action scene.
The wide shot is when the camera is positioned in a way which captures everything in view.
This angle is often used to display scenery or to showmore than one character in a shot.
This might be used during an action scene or it might even be used as a way to show a height difference.
The below the waist shot is when a camera is zoomed in on a character’s waist (mainly
zoomed in on weapons). This shot is often used to build tension just before a fight scene.
This also shows the audience something the other characters cant see.
