1. BBC Apprenticeship – at Sunderland College
Sophie Gibson
She was a student at Sunderland College who now has an apprenticeship at the BBC. She does
design engineering technology in Newcastle.
I learned more about the BBC apprenticeship scheme, and how you apply. She told us about the
application process and the questions you might have to answer. I found out that I might have to
play a mini game, so they can understand how I read situations. She advised that we learn editing
software’s whilst we’re in college, because the BBC require you to edit videos using their own
software.
She told us that the BBC will send us to university, and it could either be in London or on Zoom. If
we get sent to London, the BBC will pay for your food, travel, and accommodation. I asked Sophie
about this, and she confirmed that this is true. After this, she showed us the inside of BBC Look
North, and we got to see where she works. She works on the vision mixer, and you must make
sure you do everything in time.
It was helpful to learn more about the BBC apprenticeship, especially considering I’m applying to
one. We even got a message from the weather man Paul Mooney.
