An Essay On Newspaper
Writing an essay on the topic of newspapers might seem straightforward at first glance, as
newspapers are a common part of everyday life. However, delving deeper reveals the complexity
of the task. The challenge lies not in the scarcity of information but rather in the abundance of it.
Newspapers are multifaceted entities, encompassing journalism, history, societal impact,
technological evolution, and more. Narrowing down the focus while still providing a
comprehensive overview requires careful consideration and research.
Furthermore, the dynamic nature of newspapers adds another layer of difficulty. They are not
static entities; they evolve with time, reflecting changes in society, technology, and media
landscape. Thus, writing an essay on newspapers necessitates staying updated with current
events, trends, and advancements in journalism.
Crafting a coherent narrative amidst this vast expanse of information poses a significant
challenge. A writer must strike a balance between providing factual information, analyzing its
significance, and presenting a compelling argument or perspective. Additionally, addressing the
diverse audience that newspapers cater to—from casual readers to scholars—requires
adaptability in tone, style, and content.
Moreover, the task is not merely about regurgitating facts but also about engaging the reader,
provoking thought, and perhaps even inspiring action. It demands creativity, critical thinking,
and effective communication skills to convey ideas convincingly.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on newspapers may seem straightforward, it presents a
considerable challenge due to the breadth of topics, the dynamic nature of the subject, and the
need for coherence and engagement. However, with careful research, planning, and execution, it
is a challenge that can be overcome, resulting in a thought-provoking and insightful piece of
writing.

Mismatch Negativity Through Understanding The
Expectancy...
Mismatch negativity (MMN): Mismatch negativity occurs when this is an occasional
mismatch between the expected stimulus and the presented stimulus in an event
related potential (ERP). An ERP measures our brain response to an event, such as
hearing a sound, and can thus be graphed. We can understand mismatch negativity in
an ERP through understanding the expectancy theory. According to the expectancy
theory, our brains can expect what notes might come next, based on previous
knowledge or the rhythmic patterns. Thus, mismatch negativity occurs when we are
wrong about the notes we had expected to come next. MMN is important to music
psychology as it reflects a process in the auditory system for predicting future sound
events on the basis of the recent past, and the brains reaction when those predictions
are not fulfilled. (Trainor pp 172)
Echoic memory: Echoic memory is a part of our sensory memory process, and is
very brief sensory image of an auditory stimulus. Echoic memory refers to our brief
memory of sound and music received from our environment. Thus, we analyze the
pitch and tones from an auditory scene and store it in our short term memory as
echoic memory. In music psychology, we can study out echoic memory s
effectiveness in recalling the sounds from a designed auditory scene. (Snyder pp 107)
Short term memory (STM): Short term memory refers to that window of time within
which the present moment of perception and thought are grasped. Short term memory

Hopi Tribe Essay
Although the Hopi hardship had just begun by setting up their lives and villages,
not until one of the historical periods has changed the Hopi Indians lives within
their villages. In the year of 1540, when the Hopi first came in contact with the
Europeans (Hough 207). A group of Spanish soldiers arrives into the Hopis villages
searching for golds. Even though the Hopi did not produced golds, the Spanish still
managed to bypass through the Hopis villages and search. Since the Spanish did not
find any golds within the Hopi villages, the Spanish raided the Hopi village and left
them nothing but a raided village. Following the year of 1629, with the return of the
Spanish missionaries, they transformed their cultural belief. Not much with history...

Going back into the history of the Hopi Tribe, most of the building that was built

modifications to T CUAs: (1) the addition of a cellulose acetate (CA) gas
permeable membrane selective to NO and (2) the introduction of chitosan and
gold nanoparticles (CS/GNPs) to enhance its catalytic activity, sensitivity, and
limit of detection (LOD) to NO. The schematic of the modified T CUA is

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Sketch Of The Vitruvian Man
Problem: The famous and old Leonardo Da Vinci sketch called, The Vitruvian Man
, is very well known and studied because of its ties to many of the renaissance time
periods ideas. It is a sketch showing the direct correlation of a human s height and
arm span to the length and width of a square that is congruent in area to a circle
made of the man s naval cavity to fingertip the measurement. It signified two things,
that humans could fit into any form they choose whether it be a savage or a god; or
that humans were the in the middle of the universe s chain of command. This symbol
has been representing the renaissance era since because of what it has been
interpreted to represented. Knowing that there are some human bodymeasurements
that are equivalent I ve decided to study one set which are the thumb and big toes
length. There also could be a reason for some of our body parts to be equivalent to
each other; it could possibly be a physical adaptation for humans to survive in the
wild. For example the heightof a human and the arm span could be equivelant to aid
our performance at certain tasks such as swimming, or gathering food from trees.
The relationship between our big toes and thumbs could aid some tasks or just our

Sylvia Plath The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath s novel, The Bell Jar, shows that the mores of America contribute to the
mental deterioration of some of the most creative and introspective of people. The
novel is basically an autobiography one which is a strange mix of mundanity,
grotesqueness, barbarity, nature, and glamour. Something dark and insidious perturbs
the author s stand in protagonist, Esther Greenwood, in both traumatizing and prosaic
circumstances. The novel remains iconic in American culture due to its resonance
with feminists and mental health experts, as well as the shocking suicide of its
author. Plath was raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Her father, Otto Plath, was an

Speech On Grommet
Choosing The Right Grommet Type For Your Application
We have seen it already in many places. Also, we have already used it many times
for day to day applications. Anyway, people don t know the name of it. Well, we
refer to the Grommet here. Are you confused now? OK, go to your bathroom and
take a closer look at the bathtub curtain! The curtain moves along the bar on which it
is on thanks to a few metal rings. We call those metal rings; Grommet. You can see
similar items on your shoes. Anyway, those are small items, and we usually call
them eyelets. The whole purpose of this small piece is reinforcing and protecting the
hole. Without the eyelets, the shoelace holes can get damaged from day to day use.

Banners, hospital curtains. tabletop displays, metal bakeware, protective barriers, non
skid covers for RV steps, aerospace parts, and fabrics are the common applications of
an aluminum Grommet. Now, you can understand how versatile this product is.
Why aluminum?: Well, we should highlight several properties here:
* Durability: When compared to steel, aluminum is durable and light weight. While it
is difficult to which is the best from aluminum and stainless steel, aluminum is
definitely better than ordinary steel. So, can be used for outdoor applications and for
where water and moisture are present.
* Ductility: Well, this benefit is enjoyed by the Grommet manufacturers. When
compared to steel, aluminum is more ductile, hence easy to roll, processed, and
stamped. In other words, aluminum makes the manufacturing process easy and
practical.
* Lightness: The high weight is the top downside of steel grommets. Aluminum, on
the other hand; is three times lighter than steel, making it suitable for applications
where weight reduction is necessary. So, installing 3 aluminum grommets adds the
same weight as adding one steel
Compare The Respiration Rate Of Yeast
Baker s yeast is a staple in any human diet because of its usefulness in making
bread. As yeast respires, CO2 air bubbles form within the bread, giving it its fluffy
interior (Strains of Bread Making Yeast). In this experiment, the respiration rate of S.
cerevisiae was tested by placing yeast with different carbon sources within a test tube,
and using a CO2 detector to measure the carbon dioxidelevels as the yeast cells
respired. CO2 can be used to measure cellular respiration because of the 1:1 ratio
between oxygenand carbon dioxide (Measuring Respiration). Glucose, a carbon
source that could enter glycolysis directly, should be the one that has the highest
respiration rate. In comparison, sucrose and lactose must have their disaccharide
glycosidic linkages broken before entering glycolysis, and glycerol must go through
many steps before being able to enter glycolysis (Principles of Biology).
The cellular respiration rate and CO2 production will be the highest for yeast cells
that are grown in the carbon source of glucose. In comparison to glucose, the
respiration rates of sucrose and lactose should be lower because of how glycosidic
linkages must be broken. Glycerol should have the lowest respiration rate of the four
carbon sources and the control of the yeast water that contains no carbon source
should have the lowest cellular respiration rate.
To begin the experiment, five empty test tubes were obtained and labelled, W
(control), G (glucose), S (sucrose), L
Rome s Good Side And Rome
Pofue Yang Mrs. Killian English 8 Rome s Good Side and Rome s Bad Side When
people hear or see the word Rome , many of them think of the ancient Roman
culture. The Roman culture consists of the Roman Gods, myths, their way of life,
and arts. The surveyors wrote things such as Romans Gods , Jesus , Architecture ,
and Ancient . But the most surprising thing was that barely any of the surveyors
mentioned Rome s dark side; conquership, enslavement of people, forcing other
people to fight for entertainment, and most of all, the struggle for power;. This
research paper is to let all the readers know about Rome s beginning, Rome s
conquership, their culture, and the power struggle. Rome started its development
and conquership ever since the beginning of Rome. What many people do not
know was that Rome was at first a Kingdom, not a Republic or an Empire.Rome
was founded by a man by the name of Romulus in 753 B.C. Romulus made Rome
into a Kingdom, and made himself the first King of Rome. As Rome started out,
Romulus stole women from neighboring countries to populate Rome. As this
happens, Rome was separated between nationalities. Romulus was the King of
Rome from 753 B.C. to 716 B.C. Rome s second king was Numa Pompilius.
Religion was established by Numa which will influence the Romans in war,
economy, and politics. As religion grew, Numa added 2 more months in a year (10
years to 12 years) to assist in Religion rituals. Numa was king from 715 B.C. to 673

Water Quality Analysis Of The Potable And Environmental
Water
In this research project I conducted the water quality analysis of both the potable
and environmental water at various village sites, and in the New River Lagoon in
Belize. The data collected in this project contributed to the data collected over the
past decade by previous McMaster fellows and scholars. Moreover, we conveyed the
results from this study to the community partners in the villages San Carlos, Rancho
Dolores, and with the Programme for Belize the managing entity of Rio Bravo
Conservation and Management Area ( RBCMA ) which borders the New River
Lagoon. In the project we tested for bacterial contaminants, nitratenitrogen,
phosphorous, dissolved oxygen, pH, free chlorine, and ammonia levels.
In this project we continue to analyze new samples and the baseline data for any
trends in high or low levels of chemicals, as well as to keep the Belizean community
appraised of any hazards or precautions they should be taking for their drinking water
. By collaborating with our Belize community partners, we are able to discuss
possible solutions as to better techniques for cleaner water or more efficient solutions
to using clean safe drinking water.
Water is a necessity, but, when water becomes polluted with chemicals, both
inorganic and organic, it makes it difficult to use water for the health benefits and
sanitation it is normally used for. Good water quality is especially vital for Belize,
as they are largely an agricultural country. The data collected by the McMaster
Misogynistism In The Wife Of Bath
In Geoffrey Chaucer s literary works, The General Prologue and The Wife of Bath
s Tale, Chaucer questions misogynistic ideas of the time. Within the General
Prologue, Chaucer uses each tale to convey how some people of the time did not act
as they should, most of them were corrupt and question the ideas of the church. The
Wife of Bath s Tale is mostly about a Knight who rapes a young woman, and learns
his lesson by listening to the women around him. One of his characters, the Wife of
Bath, is portrayed to be confident, sexual and independent, which is the opposite of
what women were expected to be. They were expected to be timid, dependent
solely on men and were unable to voice their own opinions. Within his literary
works, Chaucer portrays women to be powerful and manipulative, but all for the
common good. Chaucer questions misogynistic ideas by portraying women to be
manipulative but intelligent. A prime example of this is how the queen
manipulates the king in order to obtain the Knight s case So ceaselessly, he gave
the queen the case, And granted her his life, and she could choose, Whether to
show him mercy or refuse (72 74). This shows the queen s strategic manipulation
and ability to take power away from the king and give it to herself instead, which is
the opposite of what women would usually do. Women were expected to let the man
hold all of the power because they were less civilized at the time, but this shows how
Chaucer portrayed a woman that was

In the story, A Very Old Man with Enormous WIngs, Gabriel Marquez uses many

very bold and outright example of magical realism. Marquez uses magical realism

Marquez uses magical realism, I will show you examples dealing with the Old

In 1949 Alfred Jones created the first hedge fund in the United States with $100,000
and a strategy to off set the riskiness of holding long position in stocks by shorting
other stocks. Since then hedge funds have grown to control over $2.4 trillion in
assets in over 11,000 different funds. Today hedge funds employ many different
techniques and strategies to gain a positive return that actually do not involve
hedging but instead taking a more risky stance in the market to obtain higher returns.
Hedge funds are predominately funded by wealthy investors and pensions but does
this mean that they are a safe investment to make? If I had the ability to invest in a
hedge fund I would decline to do so. My reasoning for this is that while some risky
investors believe the high risk high return, lack of regulation, illiquidity, and fees
associated are the advantages of hedge funds that allow them to generate high returns,
from a conservative investor viewpoint these are all disadvantages and risks that aren
t compensated for making investments in hedge funds an unwise decision.
The first advantage or disadvantage depending on your viewpoint is the high risk and
high return associated with hedge funds. Hedge funds allow investors opportunities
to seek a return on investment that they
Machu Picchu History
Machu Picchu is the place to go if you are looking to get away. This ruin is located
in Peru between the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon Basin. It is known for it s
ancient Inca structures. The article Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu written by
UNESCO tells us what an accomplishment Machu Picchu was, Machu Picchu was
probably the most amazing urban creation of the IncaEmpire at its height. Its giant
walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous
rock escarpments. The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andes,
encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna .
The ruin has thousand year old mysteries that are still unknown. The land is
protected by a buffer zone, keeping it safe for people to explore the sites. In this area

There are many endangered animals living here, such as dwarf brockets and pampas
cats. You might also learn about Mr. Bingham.

Sarah Goldhagen
It is interesting to consider Sarah Goldhagen s text Coda: Reconceptualizing the
Modern , a systematic categorization of the branches of modernism which developed
concurrently during the beginning of the twentieth century, through the lens of
George Kubler s seminal essay The Shape of Time. It is interesting not only because
Goldhagen serves to substantiate Kubler s polemical argument, in summary, that the
evolution of art and science is a process which depends on incremental physical and
perceptual developments, but because she uses modernism, which is typically
considered a paradigm shift relative to the history of history, to depict the ebb and
flow of social, political and cultural changes that occur in the development of modern
aesthetics.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

China’s Education System
Education is the process of learning and acquiring knowledge at school from a
teacher, receiving knowledge at home from a parent, a family member, and even

The similarities include administering a nationwide exam given to all the students.
All students are equally evaluated based on these scores. The test is used to
determine which university students are able to attend. There are also significant
differences between these exams. In America the exams are called the SAT or the
ACT. In China it is named Gaokao. The Gaokao test is taken very seriously. This
test is taken for multiple days. Parents rent hotel rooms nearby so their student can
have a quiet lunch and take a nap. Some Chinese students go insane for this exam.
They study for the Gaokao while hooked up to IV drips. The IV drips contain amino
acids which would provide the students with extra energy (Kristof). This would
definitely never be allowed in U.S. And lastly, merit pay is different in China than
U.S. The Chinese believe in merit pay and in using student test scores for teacher
evaluation. For example, when the 9th graders leave middle school they are tested to
see which high school they are qualified to attend. Since the same teachers have had
those students for three years, they compare their entry score to their exit score. The
classes that showed the most academic gain resulted in that banzhuren receiving a
bonus that might range from 3000 Yuan to 6000 Yuan (one month or two months

on it. However, the reality is a little less sunshine and rainbows. Social media has
undoubtedly changed the way humans can communicate with each other, even
making it possible to contact people in a far off country. There is a bit of a catch
though. For all of its perks, social media is creating a profoundly negative effect on
those that use it. Through social media s constant influence on lives, millions are left

The Pew Research Center reports that, As of January 2014, 74% of online adults
use social networking sites. ( Social Networking Factsheet ) These networking
sites are convenient, well known, and almost essential nowadays. Because of this,
social media cannot be ignored or turned off, so whatever message it has for the
world is going to be heard by millions. Unfortunately for the world, that message
happens to be one of self hatred and thirst for fame. One of the key features of
social media sites is also a significant source of the problems. The sharing and
viewing of images is a staple of any social media site, and some are even comprised
of nothing else. Selfie generation indeed. However, what most people never
realize is that everyone of those images is a devastating attack on fragile self
images. Nearly all the images of celebrities and supermodels have been altered in
order to be more perfect , resulting on an idolization of body type that not even the
supermodels truly have. This trickery is not a well keep secret, and many people
are fully aware of the falseness, but after seeing it day after day, it start to get into
one s head. An inquiry by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image heard
evidence that girls as young as five were worrying about their size and their
appearance. Adults were not immune from these negative attitudes either, with about
60% of the public feeling ashamed of the way they looked (Roxby)
The Short Speech Of Apple
Question One: What strikes you as surprising in these videos? Why? According to the
videos, which existing assumptions must be challenged?
After watching these videos, two things surprise me. First, I am surprised by
Political frame, which presents the conflict side of an organization because I have
never think about this side of an organization. When it comes to the views of a
company, I may normally ignore the political side and just focus on the structures,
managers and employees. After watching this video, I finally recognized the
importance of the political frame for a company. What s more, the Framing
Organization put the symbolic as one of the four parts of the frames surprise me. I
would think that the symbolic of a company is important, but I have never put it on a
same importance level as structural and human resources. One thing does not surprise
me, but I want to mention is the short speech of Apple. A company, which is greatly
collaborative, like Apple, has had the basis to success.
In my opinion, there are two existing assumptions must be challenged: role of
employees and importance of collaborations. The existing assumption, which is
managers decide everything and employees are not considerable must be changed. In
new perceptions, human resources has became one of the most important parts of an
organization. Employees actually the people who creates profits and their importance
is not lower that employers and managers. The assumption that will also be
The Laws Of The United States
A number of states in the United States of America have passed right to work
legislation and the idea has recently been trending as more states are enacting the
laws. There are still plenty of states that do not follow the right to work provisions,
but in those that do, significant effects have been witnessed. Right to work
legislation allows workers to collect the benefits of any union agreements within
their company, but can choose to forego paying fees. Also, the employees in the
states with right to work provisions can join labor unions if they wish to do so
without being forced by their employers to join a union as a requirement for
employment. This paper will attempt to detail the history of right to work laws,

For instance, a worker in a unionized workplace and in a state with right to work
legislation can decide to be represented by the union and at the same time opt not
to pay the dues required by the union. This has developed to become a major point
of contention for many labor unions which has caused them to fight back. The
labor unions oppose the right to work legislation because they have degraded their
abilities to fight for the rights of workers effectively. These unions depend on the
membership dues as they help in keeping them funded and in enabling them to be
more proactive on the issues regarding workers rights such as paid sick leave,
overtime, and minimum wage. Many labor union representatives argue that the
workers in unionized workplaces in the states that lack right to work legislation, tend
to be better paid than the employees in states with right to work legislation. As per
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (2017),
the largest federation of labor unions in America, the employees in right to work
states make around $6,100 U.S dollars less in a year than the neighbors in the states
that lack right to work legislation. Nevertheless, the push for right to work provisions
has continued to increase, thus making the labor

Nay, if you read this line, remember not / The hand that writ it;(. . .) (lines 5 6). By
referring to himself as the hand that writ it (line 6) it seems like he s trying to make
his image seem less material as if he had only existed in his lover s mind and it had
all been just a dream. This would oblige his lover to forget him as though he had
never existed. Following that, the speaker is more direct and also clearer about his
wish of being forgotten ( . . .) for I love you so / That I in your sweet thoughts
would be forgot (lines 6 and 7).; he asks his lover not to remember him when reading
the poem after his death; the speaker s love is so pure and real that he d rather have
his lover forget him and not suffer than nurture a memory of him everyday, living
in pain in consequence of these memories. In the following lines, the last argument
is presented as a last attempt to try to convince the speaker s lover: If thinking on
me then should make you woe / Oh, if, I say, you look upon this verse / When I
perhaps compounded am with clay / Do not so much as my poor name rehearse

with restating his wish over and over again throughout the sonnet, as if his lover is
stubborn and will not be willing to forget him, but this image of the speaker

Student Disengagement Reflection
Student disengagement is like a virus that spreads to everyone in the class, just
one student with their head down and you soon have a pandemic of uninterested
children. It s vital to stop this disengagement as soon as it appears to keep it
localized to one student. Currently, I am the long term substitute for a High School
Math II class featuring mostly tenth graders. At times it s difficult to hold the
attention of a room filled with snarky teenagers. I use a variety of techniques to
keep my students engaged drawling from High quality instruction, classroom
management skills, and our teacher/student relationship. Every day the lesson
plan for my class is fast paced and as exciting as possible. The idea is to keep them
busy the entire class to avoid disengagement. If we are moving at a good pace it s
harder for a student to zone out or they miss a lot of information. Next, I utilize
different types of materials to explain the topic of the day. I may start by giving
notes and lecturing, then move on to a video where the same idea is communicated
more visually. Changing up instruction methods seems to hold a student attention
better than if I simply drone on lecturing. I also like to switch up activities, class
may begin with a lecture for fifteen minutes then move on to a worksheet or some
online learning. Changing activities provides a natural brain break, although at times
I implant those by telling a joke or allowing a student to share a story. Classroom
management techniques can also ward off disengagement, when a student is
becoming disengaged I try to pull that students attention back to me. Physical
presence can sometimes redirect a child s attention back to the material. I will simply
stand near the student who is drifting and continue on instructing. If that doesn t work
or isn t possible then I call on that student to answer a question, often that student
cannot answer because of their lack of attention so I have another student help. This
usually corrects the lack of attention because they know I am aware of it. Next I use
a direct one on one conversation with the student to redirect them back to the topic at
hand. The dawn of new technology has created other ways for students to disengage.

Oceanography Analysis
For the past couple weeks, we have focused on the topography of the ocean floor in
our Oceanography class. To end this unit, we did a project of the ocean floor,
involving coloring our own map of the Pacific seafloor and reflecting on this past
unit. As tedious as the map portion of the project had been, I found it to be the
most effective teaching tool of the whole unit. The detailed notes and labs had still
been enough to teach and understand the topography of the ocean floor, the actual
color coding of the topographical map had, at least for me, given a better
appreciation of how diverse and vast the seafloor truly is. I had never given much
thought to the ocean floor before this project; I knew that it did have features just
as the continents did, but I never realized how vast and diverse it really is. One of
my favorite features that I had learned about were the trenches. Why I like them
because they are one of the more extreme features of... Show more content on

Black smokers are hydrothermal vents located on the ocean floor, which spew
superheated, mineral rich water. Although this type s mixture is black, hence the
name black smokers, different hydrothermal vents can also eject white, green, or
even clear mineral rich water. The water is actually heated by newly formed,
extremely hot crust, which is why black smokers are found on divergent plates; here
plates are spreading apart and forming new crust, often making ridges or rises. What
makes them so interesting is that they can create their own ecosystems. Black
smokers are located on the ocean floor, where no sunlight can penetrate. But, thanks
to their mineral rich and high temperature water, different organisms can survive
down at the bottom. These include gastropods, crustaceans, tube worms, and
bivalves. If fact, this is the only type of ecosystem which is completely independent
of the sun. Honestly, I find that
Sex Addiction And Drug Addiction
A New York sex addiction patient shares his story in the hope that it will help others.
To protect his real name, let s call him Peter . While he was still in college, he began
to visit prostitutes. When he couldn t afford that, he would resort to phone sex
services, porn and compulsive masturbation. As with other forms of addiction, he at
first experienced real feelings of reward, just as drug addicts enjoy a rush .
Real intimacy eluded him. He was too shy to date, but would indulge in sexual
fantasies when he should be concentrating on his work. Several times a day, he
would masturbate, and he couldn t sleep at night without masturbating first. It began
to take over his life. Although he managed to pass his coursework, he would often
be late for class. He spent less time on personal grooming, and became known for a
disheveled appearance.
Sex addiction didn t end there
Once Peter entered the professional world, he enjoyed certain aspects of his job, but
he struggled to concentrate on the present when things got dull or routine. His mind
would wonder to his most recent encounter with a prostitute or to the porn he would
watch that evening. This lack of focus affected his work performance, another
similarity between sex addiction and drug addiction that is commonly seen. He would
forget to hand in reports, turn up late for meetings, and he seemed to be in trouble at
work most of the time.
Returning home in the evenings, he felt aching loneliness, and symptoms of clinical
Medea, The Intellectual Rhetoric And Dialogue
Translated and adapted throughout time, Language stands as the key term in any
story. The play Medea, written by Euripides, is the epitome of literature that
language remains essential to accurately convey the message of the author.
Ordinarily, Medea s place in society, as an outsider and a woman, means she must
not be resilient or independent, making it increasingly difficult for her to convey her
story. Accordingly, being an outsider in more ways than one, Medeasuffers because of
her foreign origins and being a woman. Notwithstanding, Medeahappens to be a well
versed, educated woman who stands fearlessly against the patriarchy of the time. The
Jeffers adaptation loses the sense of strength possessed by this woman in society as
certain translations and adaptations of this play has. Throughout the Norton version
of Medea, the intellectual rhetoric and dialogue utilized by Medea pushes the
characters to approach decisions differently because her confrontations are persuasive
and strike fear into the characters, but the Jeffers adaptation paints Medea as a
woman that acts solely on animalistic urges and utilizes stage direction to display her
point.
Unspectacularly, the Jeffers adaptation of Medea is quite a disappointment,
painting Medea as an animal with no reason or human like thought in regards to her
decisions. Therefore this final sacrifice I intend glares in my eyes like a lion on a
ridge (Jeffers 71). Toward the finale of this piece of literature, this quote

movie as well as how your ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How did society affect this film (i.e., what currents in society led to the creation
of the film)? If you are unable to find any information about the social impact of
the film, explain the personal impact it has had on you. Note: Not every bullet point
under the four listed components will necessarily apply to your movie. However,
you will still need to discuss each of the four main components thoroughly, which
means that you may need to explain a concept even if it can‟t be directly applied
to your movie. Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that
clarifies what you will attempt to accomplish in your paper, and how you will

conclusion paragraph. Stage 2: Reflection After completing your movie analysis,
you will reflect on the analysis process and how you have learned to more

The Revolution And Reformation During The Renaissance
Revolution and reformation; these are two words that are often identified with war,
disagreement, and regional effects. While these things do indeed come along with a
revolution or reformation, they heed an array of positive and secular outcomes as
well. In addition, a revolution can, and usually will, cause a reformation.
Conversely, a reformation can cause a revolution. This can happen despite the two
things involved with the change or disagreement being seemingly unrelated. The
world is connected and affected in ways that we cannot comprehend until we look at
our world s history and see how every small occurrence leads to a landslide of
repercussions. The Renaissanceis a prime example of this interconnectedness, as it
was a time of rebirth, revolution and reformation. During the Renaissance, many
changes ensued as a result of scientists, scholars and humanists who realized that they
weren t being taught or treated properly. This idea of unsatisfactory treatment as a
result of the humanist spirit of the Renaissance led to the Scientific Revolutionand
The Protestant Reformation, movements that occurred during the Renaissance that
changed life in Western Europe, and eventually the whole world, forever.
Imagine being told that everything you have learned from school and books was
based simply on the beliefs of philosophers. All of the scientific readings that you and
everyone you know have been studying because you trusted them to be true were

Video Games Stereotypes
Video Games
Video games first started being introduced into the world around the 1970 s and since
then have evolved and made an impact on the real life and online world. Throughout
the years of video games making more and more of an impact in the entertainment
industry, the question to weather they are a form of media still remains. Media is
defined as the main means of mass communication (television, radio, and newspapers)
regarded collectively. And depending where you re coming from media can include
the video gaming industry, film industry, tv industry and of course the news and
marketing industries.

As video games is such a big medium, they are able to convey messages to the
players in a more low key way, gender representations and stereotyping are both big
things that the video gaming industry can effectively play a big part in.
Stereotyping refers to one group s generalised and widely accepted perception
about the personal attributes of members of another group (Ashmore Boca, 1981;
Dates Barlow, 1990). Within most traditional media, gender and racial stereotypes
are the most pervasive two. Increased distorted representation of women and
minorities can have a negative effect on the way that the viewer sees that particular
group. The way that video games are able to influence large masses is another
reason to why it is able to be classified as a legitimate form of media. The definition
of media as stated above being, the main means of mass communication (television,
radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. . Female characters have changed and
evolved throughout the time of video games, the first ever playable female character
in a mainstream game was created in 1986 and then another well known female
character was created by 1996, and that one being the protagonist of Tomb Raider,
Lara Croft. By 2014 it is now able to be chosen by the player in a collective of certain
games to weather they play as male or female. It isn t uncommon to see a female
characters in a video game to be over sexualised, much like mass media in todays age.
Female characters are also commonly portrayed as a damsel in distress , and the
male protagonist is usually the one to save her. Mass medias such as the news and
newspapers have this in common with video games, making it out that females
usually need some sort of male hero in their lives. There is a big push for more
women to be involved in the creation of video games
Analysis Of `` Killings `` By Andre Dubus
By analyzing the conflicts of stories help readers understand why the specific
characters act certain ways. We better comprehend the characters personality and why
the flaws of other character affect the main character. Are main characters problems
the result of other characters personality flaws? Characters endure arduous situations
and it is because of another characters flaw. Being possessiveness, overly critical, and
controlling of others are the reason for main characters problems.
When a characters flaw is dominating, it causes much problem to another character.
An example of possessiveness is by the antagonist, Richard in Killings by Andre
Dubus. Matt s problem is a result of Richards selfishness. Richard is possessive of

It generally provides either some grammatical metalanguage that refers to the
nature of the error or a word definition in the case of lexical errors. It can also be

Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) have become increasingly important to
Zimbabwe s economic growth. Given the increasing number of retrenches due to the
economic downturn Zimbabwe experienced, SMEs offer the best alternative means
of livelihood for most people. There is therefore, need to support the growth of this
sector so that it contributes more meaningfully to national economic development.
One of the major problems Practical Action Southern Africa has established as an
impediment to the growth of SMEs is lack of proper working capital management
systems. This presents a major constraint to their financial performance and their
survival. Given the current economic hardships hampering economic progress in
Zimbabwe the SMEs industry in one of the key industries where the economy is

is proving to be very difficult for the small firms to secure enough funds to
sufficiently finance their operations,
Questions On The Tax Avoidance Essay
2.2 Tax Avoidance
2.2.1 Issue
The second step of subpart BG 1 is to ascertain the tax avoidance action and the
Parliamentary contemplation test which sourced from the Ben Nevis case and

By making Will Smith appear like a typical, credible African American youth the
appeal to the viewers is strengthened.
However, the stereotypes are not the only example for ethos in the music video.
Will s clothing and vernacular make a good case for ethical appeal as well.
Throughout the video Will is dressed in loud bright colored clothing with various
trendy accessories such as hats and sneakers. The clothing helps Will to appeal to
the younger viewers because it s something the viewers can identify with. Also Will
s upbeat tone and hipster lingo help his credibility of acting as an average young
black male.
While ethos plays a large role in the appeal of the video, pathos plays a role equally
as large. The pathological appeal in the music video is present from start to finish.
The video opens with a background soundtrack of an upbeat rap tune. The tune is
catchy and grabs the viewer s attention immediately. Will Smith compliments the
catchy beat by rapping an energetic rap. The rap itself demands for viewers attention
because it appeals to their taste in music.
Whereas music is the main avenue of appeal in the video, there are other pathos
elements present. While Will is playing basketball, the ball accidently hits a nearby
thug who takes offense and physically confronts Will. The thug threatens and
bullies Will until Will s mom gets so scared for Will s well being that she sends him
to live his aunt and uncle in Bel Air. Nearly every kid in

Miniscribe was founded in the 1980s when the personal computer was on the rise. It
had great potential during this period and large growth capacity. During the first
years the company grew fast and furious. By 1983 it has outgrown its ability to
remain private and needed the public investment to continue to grow its operations
and gain greater equity. In 1983 the company went public for $11.50 a share. As soon
as it went public, new entrants into the market and the decline in consumer demand
for personal computers had caused the market to decline. Miniscribe was on the verge
of going down with many other companies that could not make it through the

Inventory becomes obsolete quickly thus having inventory that cannot be sold.
Inventory could be overstated also if it has become impaired. Increase in property
plant and equipment for a growing company is normal but for one that should be
past it rapid growth it may not be a good idea. Inventory turnover is decreasing over
time confirming inventory is becoming harder to sell or they are producing too much
in a market that is not purchasing it quickly.
Property, Plant and Equipment in a growing firm is expected to be increasing.
Property plant in equipment is increasing but the turnover or the rate at which the
assets are being used are decreasing.
Accounts payable is increasing every year with a substantial growth in 1988 which
may be due to a large amount of unpaid balances that will reduce assets. Accrued
expenses increased dramatically in 1988. The long term debt was manageable in
1985 and 1986 but in 1987 quadruples. Being leveraged is good to some extent such
as in 1985 and 1986 but in 1987 and 1988 it becomes being too leveraged.
In 1987 and 1988 the long term debt increased dramatically possibly due to
increased loans to manage cash flows. See Capital Structure and Solvency graph and

The Knights Of Wall Street Chapter 1 Summary
A main error that came from the case studies in the Set Phasers on Stun reading was
the edit function within the control system. This type of error is label as the mistakes
error. This is a mistake error because during the time of the treatment, Mary Beth
(operator) thought that her quick thinking of changing her typo before putting the
machine to work would solve the problem immediately. Yet, the computer program
was unable to keep up with the sudden changes of the edit function. Hence, the
program setting went from x ray mode to electronbeam mode without notifying the
operator.
Consequently, since there was no notification of an error that the operator could see,
she continued with the process treatment on her patients. The occurrence of this error
is categorized as a commission because the act was performed incorrectly. Since the
operator typed the key command too quickly that it caused her to mess up the
operating command, she tried to recover her mistakes by using the editing function at
a very fast pace that was not fit for the program. Some contributing events that led up
to the error are the presence of cameras within the treatment room, but it was not
checked to see if it was up and running during the treatment. Another is the

F. Lawrence University Jazz Workshop
On November 14th, the Lawrence University Jazz Workshop, under the direction of
JosГ© EncarnaciГіn, played a concert of five tunes in Harper Hall. This ensemble
consisted of a full rhythm section, six saxophones, a trombone and a cello making up
the trombone section, and four trumpets. The purpose of this concert was to
demonstrate what the JazzWorkshop had been working on throughout fall term as
well as function as a final exam. Over the course of about 40 minutes, they played
five pieces of different styles that featured and challenged different parts of the
ensemble. Minor Mystery, the first piece played by the group, was composed and
arranged by Ellen Rowe. This song is a minor blues that is normally set to be
played at a medium swing, however, this performance was taken at a slightly faster
pace. This allowed for the piece to be played with more energy, rather than just
standing still. Minor Mystery is a work that lets the ensemble demonstrate their
stylistic technique. This piece is riddled with dynamic contrasts and notations such
as marcatos, accents, and tenutos. This proved to be a challenge, due to the fact that
not everyone has the same concept of how these notes should be played. While
learning and rehearsing this song, stylistic concepts were probably what we spent the
most time on. In order to really sound together and like one cohesive unit, the
perfection of these articulations was crucial. The second song played was Lines for

The West in Film Essay examples
The depiction of minorities, specifically women and Native Americans, in Western
film has changed drastically from the early 1930 s to the late 1980 s. These changes
represent the changing views of American society in general throughout the 20th
century. In the early part of the century, women and Native Americanswere depicted
as a burden. Women were viewed as a form of property, helpless and needing support.
These minorities were obstacles in the quest for manifest destiny by the United States.
Western films during the early 20th centuryrepresent the ignorance of American
culture towards minorities. As time progressed, society began to develop compassion
for Native Americans and men began to see women as equals. The movie industry...

These films were made when America was struggling with the idea of what it meant
to be American and who was American. The view towards Native Americans during
this period was that they were savage , thus giving American expansionists the right
to take over their land and ignore the rights of the Indians.
Stagecoach is a classic western directed by John Ford. The central theme of this
script the passengers forging a temporary community to defend themselves against
the Indians and the desert (Slotkin, 305) represents the societal views of the time.
The frontier was a place of hope and new beginnings, with only the Indians in the
way. Americans during this time period strongly supported this view of Native
Americans as being an obstacle in American expansion. This is displayed not only in
the movie but also in the fact that these expeditions were supported by the nation. The
triumph of Americans over the Native Americans is a common theme in early
westerns.
While accurately depicting the invasion of Americans on Native American soil,
Ford makes no attempt to suggest that these acts were immoral because during the
1930 s this was not the point of view of Americans. The depiction of Native
Americans in Stagecoach is typical of the late 1930 s. The Apache s are portrayed
strictly as warriors who brutally fight the white invasion (Yeck and McGreevey, 24).
During one scene the camera alternates between the passengers on the stagecoach and

Fame Is A Fickle Food Poem Analysis
I love spring time. I love to go outside and hear the birds chirping. The sky is a light
blue color with not a cloud to be seen, just little blue birds flying high. The birds act
as if they are famous for having the ability to fly. However, sometimes being famous
isn t a path people want to live on. Some peoplethink of fame as a potion that can
make you ill. Others believe that fame is a good thing, and they want to be
famous. Some authors choose to write their idea of fame as a poem. Famous , by
Naomi Shihab and Fame is a Fickle Food , by Emily Dickinson illuminate the idea of
what fame really is.
First, Famous , by Naomi Shihab and Fame is a Fickle Food , by Emily Dickinson
are two very different poems. Fame is a Fickle Food says that fame isn t loyal and
fame is bad. The author says that fame can kill you! However, Famous talks about
how it is good to be famous to the people who are nice and kind. The author says she
wants to be famous. In the text it says, I want to be famous to shuffling men . And
that compares to what Emily Dickinson said, Man ... Show more content on

Famous have a very clear pattern through the the first stanza, but Fame is a fickle

you read the poems in your head and out loud. With the a pattern you read each line
in kind of the same voice, but with no pattern you read each line as a surprise with a
little more expression. To sum it up, the poems are contrasting in many more
Fitness And Physical Activities Analysis
A. At the beginning of the semester I was not regularly active during my weekdays
or weekends. I would go on walks, an occasional run and use my elliptical machine
at home but never on a regular basis. Once, I started this course and the training
peaks assignment, I began to incorporate a variety of physical activities in order to
make it easier for me to become active on a regular basis. I chose physical activities
that I would find enjoyable and even discovered new physical activities that I had
not tried before to be very enjoyable, like power yoga and racquetball. The second
week of using Training Peaks was when I began to be physically active on a
regular basis, which was 5 7 days a week. I made sure to invest at least half an hour
in each physical activity I would partake it. I found that I tend to spend more than
half an hour doing the physical activities that I enjoy more, like racquetball and
riding my mountain bike. I started playing racquetball and mountain biking for forty
five minutes initially and no I have increased the time to a whole hour. I also had a
lot more rest days at the start of using Training Peaks than I do now.... Show more

Critical, Theological Review of the Film Chocolat Essay
Set in 1950 s France, Chocolat is a film centred on the Catholic virtue of
temperance, or rather the struggle to achieve temperance when the church is faced
with the temptation of a 2000 year old chocolate recipe. Temperance is defined in
the catholic encyclopaedia as the righteous habit which makes a man govern his
natural appetite for pleasures of the senses in accordance with the norm prescribed
by reason , and in Chocolat it is the Comte de Reynaud, the major and self appointed
moral authority for the whole community, that attempts to keep check of the villager
s carnal passions and temptations. There is an obvious conflict between the Comte
and Vianne Rocher, the single mother who arrives in Lansquenet bringing a splash of
red to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Comte reacts by slamming the door shut against the wind, forcing it, and its
possible changing qualities, out of the church. It is the season of Lent, and the
restrictions of that religious season are strictly enforced in the village. The citizens
are ruled with an iron fist by the mayor and there is little joy in the village with the
inhabitants slaves to the religious oppression of the Comte de Reynaud. Even the
young Catholic priest, Pere Henri is controlled by the mayor. The mayor even tells
Pere Henri at one point, If you haven t seen the chocolaterie, you might want to take
a look. It s important to know one s enemies. Thus, anything and anyone who
opposes this man s rigid religious tradition is the enemy , an attitude often seen, even
today among religious extremists and legalistic believers. The Comte encourages the
villagers to resist the temptations of Vianne s sweet chocolates, telling them to
boycott immorality , and a tussle ensues between him and Vianne. Jeff Shannon, a
noted film critic, comments, The film covers familiar territory and deals in broad
metaphors that even a child could comprehend. There is nothing deep or complex
about the message, and yet the cinematic metaphors are so broad that countless
applications are possible. The film begins with the introduction, Once upon a time ,
thus some see it as a kind of superior fable or parable of the eternal cosmic battle

Afghanistan Pros And Cons
Although the Taliban was able to provide economic growth in Afghanistan, it was at
the expense of global addiction. Further, economic growth was short lasting because
in 2001, the Taliban banned opium production as a result of overproduction and a
significant price decrease. The ban did increase opium prices, however it had
devastated many farmers, who were left with large unpaid loans to drug dealers and
no source of income (Descent into Chaos 320). Opposition to the Talibantherefore
increased amongst the Afghan population (320). Moreover, even though the Taliban
was at first praised for bringing relative peace and security to the regions they
captured, their social and religious policies were widely unpopular (Barfield 289).

When the Taliban took control of Kabul in 1996, they banned women from
working, which was especially detrimental to widows and other women who did
not have a male figure in their life to provide a source of income. Widows were
therefore forced to beg in the streets and sell their goods (Invisible Women 7). The
Taliban also forced women to wear burqas, and if they failed to cover themselves
properly, they were subject to public beatings(7). Education for women also
deteriorated when the Taliban rose to power. Prior to the Taliban regime, Statistics by
the Feminist Majority Foundation revealed that over half of the student body of
Afghanistan s universities were women (8), but once Taliban took over, women were
prohibited from attending school. Numerous other rules imposed by the Taliban
disallowed women from equal opportunity, such as the Taliban s refusal to provide
women access to medical care, their requirement that women must at all times be
accompanied by a male chaperone, women prohibition from driving, and women
being unable to wear white burqas, white socks, or white shoes, amongst other laws
(Invisible 8). Failure to abide by the Taliban rules led to harsh, and sometimes
barbaric, punishments. Subsequently, these irrational rules left widespread feelings
of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness among Afghan women

The Information Technology (IT) Security Certification and Accreditation (C A)

Ash Trees Research Paper
Emerald ash borer First of all, seeds from as many ash trees as possible should be
collected and preserved. Diseased ash trees should be cut down and used for
applications other than mulching (ash wood is useful) to reduce easy targets for the

but local environmental agencies should spend that much money on vast areas of
public land. Japanese knotweed Non impacted waterways should be planted with

Newly found non natives which cannot be determined to be harmless are placed

Urbanization In Idaho
A little family of four from Idaho owns a potato farm. The nearest neighbor is half
a mile away. After struggling to maintain the land and profit from their crops, they
decide to sell the farm and move to Chicago. There they have jobs waiting and a
nice house with a green lawn on a street with twenty other houses. After a couple
years, they have acquired two more cars and with a rise in income are able to
consume double the products they did in Idaho. This family is an example of an
issue that impacts the environment everyday: Urbanization. Merriam Webster defines
urbanization as the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger
as more and more people begin living and working in central areas. Due to a rapidly
growing population, the world is becoming more urbanized, leading to harmful
effects on the environment such as pollution, changes in climate, and the destruction
of biodiversity.

The objective of this paper is to investigate what led to the Ford pinto criminal trial
and the impact that it had. What led up to the criminal indictment of Ford, the trial
itself, the verdict of the trial will be discussed. The Impact that this trial has had on
the Automobile industry will also be investigated.
In the late 1960 s there was strong competition from VW and several Japanese
companies in the small car market. Due to this competition Ford hurried the design
of their small car, the Pinto, to market. Since the car was rushed into market and the
specifications for the car were that it weigh under 2000 pounds and cost less than

that this information did not just stay in the pages of Mother Jones, Dowie called a

PERSONAL ADVOCACY SPEECH PLAN
Title: Your little ways make a big difference
Specific Speech Purpose: At the end of the speech, Comm 3 audience will have
been convinced to help or to encourage, in their own ways, less privileged children to
go to school.
Statement: We can help children appreciate the value of education.
INTRODUCTION
I.Attention Step: My parents are among those parents who tell their children that,
education is the most precious treasure I can give you. Growing up, the value of
education has really been instilled among the four of us and almost everything that
we need for school is being provided. I saw my parents sacrifices to make sure that
we go on with our studies conveniently. Perhaps these are some of the factors why
education is so close to my heart and why, as early as now, I want to help or
encourage children go to school. It really moves my heart whenever I see people
walking miles just to go to school or working part time job to sustain their education.
I admire them for persevering despite the challenges that they face.
II.Clarification Step: This is still the reality that we are facing that there are
Filipino children who are confronted by many challenges that hinder them from
going to school. Many of them, despite their perseverance, have already given up;
some are still persevering; and some did not even have the chance to receive
primary education. I am saying this because I believe that you too value education
as much as I do. I also believe that, in one way or another, you want to do something
for our less privileged brothers and sisters who want to go to school. And I urge you
to start doing it now.
BODY
I.Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
A.Knowledge gained through education prepares individuals for the future.
B.Opportunities for educated individuals are numerous.
1.Individuals may be offered with higher income and enjoyable career.
2.Individuals may also be offered with jobs where they can expand their natural skills
and talents and turn them into something greater.
II.Poverty hinders children to go to school.
A.Number of children enrolling in schools are fewer
Learning To Read And Write
I hate it, I hate it, I hate it I used to tell my mom when she used to ask me to read or

just did not want to go. I used to get bad grades and couldn t read and was not a

While growing up reading and writing were my worst subjects and I used to hate
them I struggled in them. I can still remember that when I was in the first grade in
the grade where I was supposed to actually learn to read and write my teacher didn t
teach. She would scream at me and scare me so much to where I remember , one day
when she called me to read in front of the class and when I messed up on a word she
would yell at me , and the whole class used to laugh at me. I remember that I cried
in front of everyone that day and I remember exactly what she had said to me that

An Essay On Newspaper.pdf

  • 1. An Essay On Newspaper Writing an essay on the topic of newspapers might seem straightforward at first glance, as newspapers are a common part of everyday life. However, delving deeper reveals the complexity of the task. The challenge lies not in the scarcity of information but rather in the abundance of it. Newspapers are multifaceted entities, encompassing journalism, history, societal impact, technological evolution, and more. Narrowing down the focus while still providing a comprehensive overview requires careful consideration and research. Furthermore, the dynamic nature of newspapers adds another layer of difficulty. They are not static entities; they evolve with time, reflecting changes in society, technology, and media landscape. Thus, writing an essay on newspapers necessitates staying updated with current events, trends, and advancements in journalism. Crafting a coherent narrative amidst this vast expanse of information poses a significant challenge. A writer must strike a balance between providing factual information, analyzing its significance, and presenting a compelling argument or perspective. Additionally, addressing the diverse audience that newspapers cater to—from casual readers to scholars—requires adaptability in tone, style, and content. Moreover, the task is not merely about regurgitating facts but also about engaging the reader, provoking thought, and perhaps even inspiring action. It demands creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to convey ideas convincingly. In conclusion, while writing an essay on newspapers may seem straightforward, it presents a considerable challenge due to the breadth of topics, the dynamic nature of the subject, and the need for coherence and engagement. However, with careful research, planning, and execution, it is a challenge that can be overcome, resulting in a thought-provoking and insightful piece of writing. • 2. Mismatch Negativity Through Understanding The Expectancy... Mismatch negativity (MMN): Mismatch negativity occurs when this is an occasional mismatch between the expected stimulus and the presented stimulus in an event related potential (ERP). An ERP measures our brain response to an event, such as hearing a sound, and can thus be graphed. We can understand mismatch negativity in an ERP through understanding the expectancy theory. According to the expectancy theory, our brains can expect what notes might come next, based on previous knowledge or the rhythmic patterns. Thus, mismatch negativity occurs when we are wrong about the notes we had expected to come next. MMN is important to music psychology as it reflects a process in the auditory system for predicting future sound events on the basis of the recent past, and the brains reaction when those predictions are not fulfilled. (Trainor pp 172) Echoic memory: Echoic memory is a part of our sensory memory process, and is very brief sensory image of an auditory stimulus. Echoic memory refers to our brief memory of sound and music received from our environment. Thus, we analyze the pitch and tones from an auditory scene and store it in our short term memory as echoic memory. In music psychology, we can study out echoic memory s effectiveness in recalling the sounds from a designed auditory scene. (Snyder pp 107) Short term memory (STM): Short term memory refers to that window of time within which the present moment of perception and thought are grasped. Short term memory is the

Hopi Tribe Essay Although the Hopi hardship had just begun by setting up their lives and villages, not until one of the historical periods has changed the Hopi Indians lives within their villages. In the year of 1540, when the Hopi first came in contact with the Europeans (Hough 207). A group of Spanish soldiers arrives into the Hopis villages searching for golds. Even though the Hopi did not produced golds, the Spanish still managed to bypass through the Hopis villages and search. Since the Spanish did not find any golds within the Hopi villages, the Spanish raided the Hopi village and left them nothing but a raided village. Preparation of the T CUAs follows previously described procedures.[references] Briefly, the fabrication consist of dropcasting polystyrene spheres (PSS) of a diameter of 1.54 Вµm onto a conductive carbon pyrolized photoresist film (PPF) electrode.[references] In a collaboration with the Stevenson group, we have reported a method for detecting H2O2 using T CUAs.[reference] We introduce two modifications to T CUAs: (1) the addition of a cellulose acetate (CA) gas permeable membrane selective to NO and (2) the introduction of chitosan and gold nanoparticles (CS/GNPs) to enhance its catalytic activity, sensitivity, and limit of detection (LOD) to NO. The schematic of the modified T CUA is illustrated in Scheme 2. The CA membrane precursor solution was prepared according to a previous procedure.[reference] The pore size of the CA membrane (~6 Г…) filters out non gaseous molecules typically secreted by cells (i.e. proteins). The average membrane thickness is determined to be ~100 nm using atomic force microscopy (AFM). This is shown in Figure 1.The second modification is introduced to the T CUAs via one step electrodeposition of chitosan gold nanoparticles (CS/GNPs). Figure 2 shows scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of an unmodified T CUA, a modified CS/GNPs T CUAs. Although, the size of the GNPs ranges from 5 to 80 nm, there is an
  • 6. How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Sketch Of The Vitruvian Man Problem: The famous and old Leonardo Da Vinci sketch called, The Vitruvian Man , is very well known and studied because of its ties to many of the renaissance time periods ideas. It is a sketch showing the direct correlation of a human s height and arm span to the length and width of a square that is congruent in area to a circle made of the man s naval cavity to fingertip the measurement. It signified two things, that humans could fit into any form they choose whether it be a savage or a god; or that humans were the in the middle of the universe s chain of command. This symbol has been representing the renaissance era since because of what it has been interpreted to represented. Knowing that there are some human bodymeasurements that are equivalent I ve decided to study one set which are the thumb and big toes length. There also could be a reason for some of our body parts to be equivalent to each other; it could possibly be a physical adaptation for humans to survive in the wild. For example the heightof a human and the arm span could be equivelant to aid our performance at certain tasks such as swimming, or gathering food from trees. The relationship between our big toes and thumbs could aid some tasks or just our overall normal abilities. Specifically our ability to grasp items could be... • 7. Sylvia Plath The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath s novel, The Bell Jar, shows that the mores of America contribute to the mental deterioration of some of the most creative and introspective of people. The novel is basically an autobiography one which is a strange mix of mundanity, grotesqueness, barbarity, nature, and glamour. Something dark and insidious perturbs the author s stand in protagonist, Esther Greenwood, in both traumatizing and prosaic circumstances. The novel remains iconic in American culture due to its resonance with feminists and mental health experts, as well as the shocking suicide of its author. Plath was raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Her father, Otto Plath, was an apiologist and professor. (Martin, Stevenson, Oxford Press University) Aurelia Plath,

Banners, hospital curtains. tabletop displays, metal bakeware, protective barriers, non skid covers for RV steps, aerospace parts, and fabrics are the common applications of an aluminum Grommet. Now, you can understand how versatile this product is. Why aluminum?: Well, we should highlight several properties here: * Durability: When compared to steel, aluminum is durable and light weight. While it is difficult to which is the best from aluminum and stainless steel, aluminum is definitely better than ordinary steel. So, can be used for outdoor applications and for where water and moisture are present. * Ductility: Well, this benefit is enjoyed by the Grommet manufacturers. When compared to steel, aluminum is more ductile, hence easy to roll, processed, and stamped. In other words, aluminum makes the manufacturing process easy and practical. * Lightness: The high weight is the top downside of steel grommets. Aluminum, on the other hand; is three times lighter than steel, making it suitable for applications where weight reduction is necessary. So, installing 3 aluminum grommets adds the same weight as adding one steel
  • 9. Compare The Respiration Rate Of Yeast Baker s yeast is a staple in any human diet because of its usefulness in making bread. As yeast respires, CO2 air bubbles form within the bread, giving it its fluffy interior (Strains of Bread Making Yeast). In this experiment, the respiration rate of S. cerevisiae was tested by placing yeast with different carbon sources within a test tube, and using a CO2 detector to measure the carbon dioxidelevels as the yeast cells respired. CO2 can be used to measure cellular respiration because of the 1:1 ratio between oxygenand carbon dioxide (Measuring Respiration). Glucose, a carbon source that could enter glycolysis directly, should be the one that has the highest respiration rate. In comparison, sucrose and lactose must have their disaccharide glycosidic linkages broken before entering glycolysis, and glycerol must go through many steps before being able to enter glycolysis (Principles of Biology). The cellular respiration rate and CO2 production will be the highest for yeast cells that are grown in the carbon source of glucose. In comparison to glucose, the respiration rates of sucrose and lactose should be lower because of how glycosidic linkages must be broken. Glycerol should have the lowest respiration rate of the four carbon sources and the control of the yeast water that contains no carbon source should have the lowest cellular respiration rate. To begin the experiment, five empty test tubes were obtained and labelled, W (control), G (glucose), S (sucrose), L
  • 10. Rome s Good Side And Rome Pofue Yang Mrs. Killian English 8 Rome s Good Side and Rome s Bad Side When people hear or see the word Rome , many of them think of the ancient Roman culture. The Roman culture consists of the Roman Gods, myths, their way of life, and arts. The surveyors wrote things such as Romans Gods , Jesus , Architecture , and Ancient . But the most surprising thing was that barely any of the surveyors mentioned Rome s dark side; conquership, enslavement of people, forcing other people to fight for entertainment, and most of all, the struggle for power;. This research paper is to let all the readers know about Rome s beginning, Rome s conquership, their culture, and the power struggle. Rome started its development and conquership ever since the beginning of Rome. What many people do not know was that Rome was at first a Kingdom, not a Republic or an Empire.Rome was founded by a man by the name of Romulus in 753 B.C. Romulus made Rome into a Kingdom, and made himself the first King of Rome. As Rome started out, Romulus stole women from neighboring countries to populate Rome. As this happens, Rome was separated between nationalities. Romulus was the King of Rome from 753 B.C. to 716 B.C. Rome s second king was Numa Pompilius. Religion was established by Numa which will influence the Romans in war, economy, and politics. As religion grew, Numa added 2 more months in a year (10 years to 12 years) to assist in Religion rituals. Numa was king from 715 B.C. to 673 B.C. Then came the

Water Quality Analysis Of The Potable And Environmental Water In this research project I conducted the water quality analysis of both the potable and environmental water at various village sites, and in the New River Lagoon in Belize. The data collected in this project contributed to the data collected over the past decade by previous McMaster fellows and scholars. Moreover, we conveyed the results from this study to the community partners in the villages San Carlos, Rancho Dolores, and with the Programme for Belize the managing entity of Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area ( RBCMA ) which borders the New River Lagoon. In the project we tested for bacterial contaminants, nitratenitrogen, phosphorous, dissolved oxygen, pH, free chlorine, and ammonia levels. In this project we continue to analyze new samples and the baseline data for any trends in high or low levels of chemicals, as well as to keep the Belizean community appraised of any hazards or precautions they should be taking for their drinking water . By collaborating with our Belize community partners, we are able to discuss possible solutions as to better techniques for cleaner water or more efficient solutions to using clean safe drinking water. Water is a necessity, but, when water becomes polluted with chemicals, both inorganic and organic, it makes it difficult to use water for the health benefits and sanitation it is normally used for. Good water quality is especially vital for Belize, as they are largely an agricultural country. The data collected by the McMaster
  • 12. Misogynistism In The Wife Of Bath In Geoffrey Chaucer s literary works, The General Prologue and The Wife of Bath s Tale, Chaucer questions misogynistic ideas of the time. Within the General Prologue, Chaucer uses each tale to convey how some people of the time did not act as they should, most of them were corrupt and question the ideas of the church. The Wife of Bath s Tale is mostly about a Knight who rapes a young woman, and learns his lesson by listening to the women around him. One of his characters, the Wife of Bath, is portrayed to be confident, sexual and independent, which is the opposite of what women were expected to be. They were expected to be timid, dependent solely on men and were unable to voice their own opinions. Within his literary works, Chaucer portrays women to be powerful and manipulative, but all for the common good. Chaucer questions misogynistic ideas by portraying women to be manipulative but intelligent. A prime example of this is how the queen manipulates the king in order to obtain the Knight s case So ceaselessly, he gave the queen the case, And granted her his life, and she could choose, Whether to show him mercy or refuse (72 74). This shows the queen s strategic manipulation and ability to take power away from the king and give it to herself instead, which is the opposite of what women would usually do. Women were expected to let the man hold all of the power because they were less civilized at the time, but this shows how Chaucer portrayed a woman that was

The main character in the story, the Old Man, is a very bold and outright example of magical realism. Marquez uses magical realism throughout the story to show the characters motives and truths. To show you how Marquez uses magical realism, I will show you examples dealing with the Old Man. The first and biggest example of magical realism in the story is the Old Man. Pelayo just finds an old man with huge wings in his courtyard and is weirded out but quickly becomes unphased. As soon as someone tells him the man is an angel he believes them, these would never happen in real life. Also, all the townspeople and neighbors don t find the angel

S P 500 Table of Contents High Risk High Return3 HFRX Global Hedge Fund vs. S P 5003 Long Term Capital Management4 Lack of Regulation4 Withdrawing Funds 5 Hedge Fund Fees 5 Bibliography 7 In 1949 Alfred Jones created the first hedge fund in the United States with $100,000 and a strategy to off set the riskiness of holding long position in stocks by shorting other stocks. Since then hedge funds have grown to control over $2.4 trillion in assets in over 11,000 different funds. Today hedge funds employ many different techniques and strategies to gain a positive return that actually do not involve hedging but instead taking a more risky stance in the market to obtain higher returns. Hedge funds are predominately funded by wealthy investors and pensions but does this mean that they are a safe investment to make? If I had the ability to invest in a hedge fund I would decline to do so. My reasoning for this is that while some risky investors believe the high risk high return, lack of regulation, illiquidity, and fees associated are the advantages of hedge funds that allow them to generate high returns, from a conservative investor viewpoint these are all disadvantages and risks that aren t compensated for making investments in hedge funds an unwise decision. The first advantage or disadvantage depending on your viewpoint is the high risk and high return associated with hedge funds. Hedge funds allow investors opportunities to seek a return on investment that they

It is known for it s ancient Inca structures. The article Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu written by UNESCO tells us what an accomplishment Machu Picchu was, Machu Picchu was probably the most amazing urban creation of the IncaEmpire at its height. Its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andes, encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna . The ruin has thousand year old mysteries that are still unknown. The land is protected by a buffer zone, keeping it safe for people to explore the sites. After the Spanish Conquest the Spaniards enquired the land along with the structures. The land was later discovered by a Latin American History student from Yale University. The student, Hiram Bingham was searching for the lost ruins of the Vilcabamba, and in 1911 he came across what he believed to be the ruins of that ancient Inca village. Duane Damon, the author of the article The Stones of Machu Picchu wrote about what Bingham saw, The explorer gaped in awe at a huge altar carved from the mountainside itself the intihuatana, or hitching post of the sun. He marveled at El TorreГіn a graceful semicircular tower. A pair of three sided temples with triple windows held him

Sarah Goldhagen It is interesting to consider Sarah Goldhagen s text Coda: Reconceptualizing the Modern , a systematic categorization of the branches of modernism which developed concurrently during the beginning of the twentieth century, through the lens of George Kubler s seminal essay The Shape of Time. It is interesting not only because Goldhagen serves to substantiate Kubler s polemical argument, in summary, that the evolution of art and science is a process which depends on incremental physical and perceptual developments, but because she uses modernism, which is typically considered a paradigm shift relative to the history of history, to depict the ebb and flow of social, political and cultural changes that occur in the development of modern aesthetics.... Student Disengagement Reflection Student disengagement is like a virus that spreads to everyone in the class, just one student with their head down and you soon have a pandemic of uninterested children. It s vital to stop this disengagement as soon as it appears to keep it localized to one student. Currently, I am the long term substitute for a High School Math II class featuring mostly tenth graders. At times it s difficult to hold the attention of a room filled with snarky teenagers. I use a variety of techniques to keep my students engaged drawling from High quality instruction, classroom management skills, and our teacher/student relationship. Every day the lesson plan for my class is fast paced and as exciting as possible. The idea is to keep them busy the entire class to avoid disengagement. If we are moving at a good pace it s harder for a student to zone out or they miss a lot of information. Next, I utilize different types of materials to explain the topic of the day. I may start by giving notes and lecturing, then move on to a video where the same idea is communicated more visually. Changing up instruction methods seems to hold a student attention better than if I simply drone on lecturing. I also like to switch up activities, class may begin with a lecture for fifteen minutes then move on to a worksheet or some online learning. Changing activities provides a natural brain break, although at times I implant those by telling a joke or allowing a student to share a story. Classroom management techniques can also ward off disengagement, when a student is becoming disengaged I try to pull that students attention back to me. Physical presence can sometimes redirect a child s attention back to the material. I will simply stand near the student who is drifting and continue on instructing. If that doesn t work or isn t possible then I call on that student to answer a question, often that student cannot answer because of their lack of attention so I have another student help. This usually corrects the lack of attention because they know I am aware of it. Next I use a direct one on one conversation with the student to redirect them back to the topic at hand. The dawn of new technology has created other ways for students to disengage. My

The play Medea, written by Euripides, is the epitome of literature that language remains essential to accurately convey the message of the author. Ordinarily, Medea s place in society, as an outsider and a woman, means she must not be resilient or independent, making it increasingly difficult for her to convey her story. Accordingly, being an outsider in more ways than one, Medeasuffers because of her foreign origins and being a woman. Notwithstanding, Medeahappens to be a well versed, educated woman who stands fearlessly against the patriarchy of the time. The Jeffers adaptation loses the sense of strength possessed by this woman in society as certain translations and adaptations of this play has. Throughout the Norton version of Medea, the intellectual rhetoric and dialogue utilized by Medea pushes the characters to approach decisions differently because her confrontations are persuasive and strike fear into the characters, but the Jeffers adaptation paints Medea as a woman that acts solely on animalistic urges and utilizes stage direction to display her point. Unspectacularly, the Jeffers adaptation of Medea is quite a disappointment, painting Medea as an animal with no reason or human like thought in regards to her decisions. Therefore this final sacrifice I intend glares in my eyes like a lion on a ridge (Jeffers 71). Toward the finale of this piece of literature, this quote

While these things do indeed come along with a revolution or reformation, they heed an array of positive and secular outcomes as well. In addition, a revolution can, and usually will, cause a reformation. Conversely, a reformation can cause a revolution. This can happen despite the two things involved with the change or disagreement being seemingly unrelated. The world is connected and affected in ways that we cannot comprehend until we look at our world s history and see how every small occurrence leads to a landslide of repercussions. The Renaissanceis a prime example of this interconnectedness, as it was a time of rebirth, revolution and reformation. The Red Scare was a postwar hysteria fed by labor strikes, bomb scares, and the fear of Germans. During the time of race riots and labor strikes, home made mail bombs being sent to the homes of popular or important people were becoming a familiar fear to the public. The postal service attempted to intercept them all, but a few bombs slipped through killing people and destroying houses. This caused the fear of immigration to rapidly increase throughout the United States. This ensemble consisted of a full rhythm section, six saxophones, a trombone and a cello making up the trombone section, and four trumpets. The purpose of this concert was to demonstrate what the JazzWorkshop had been working on throughout fall term as well as function as a final exam. Over the course of about 40 minutes, they played five pieces of different styles that featured and challenged different parts of the ensemble. Minor Mystery, the first piece played by the group, was composed and arranged by Ellen Rowe. This song is a minor blues that is normally set to be played at a medium swing, however, this performance was taken at a slightly faster pace. This allowed for the piece to be played with more energy, rather than just standing still. Minor Mystery is a work that lets the ensemble demonstrate their stylistic technique. This piece is riddled with dynamic contrasts and notations such as marcatos, accents, and tenutos. This proved to be a challenge, due to the fact that not everyone has the same concept of how these notes should be played. While learning and rehearsing this song, stylistic concepts were probably what we spent the most time on. In order to really sound together and like one cohesive unit, the perfection of these articulations was crucial. The second song played was Lines for Lions, written by

Women were viewed as a form of property, helpless and needing support. These minorities were obstacles in the quest for manifest destiny by the United States. The view towards Native Americans during this period was that they were savage , thus giving American expansionists the right to take over their land and ignore the rights of the Indians. Stagecoach is a classic western directed by John Ford. The central theme of this script the passengers forging a temporary community to defend themselves against the Indians and the desert (Slotkin, 305) represents the societal views of the time. The frontier was a place of hope and new beginnings, with only the Indians in the way. Americans during this time period strongly supported this view of Native Americans as being an obstacle in American expansion. This is displayed not only in the movie but also in the fact that these expeditions were supported by the nation. The triumph of Americans over the Native Americans is a common theme in early westerns. While accurately depicting the invasion of Americans on Native American soil, Ford makes no attempt to suggest that these acts were immoral because during the 1930 s this was not the point of view of Americans. The depiction of Native Americans in Stagecoach is typical of the late 1930 s. The Apache s are portrayed strictly as warriors who brutally fight the white invasion (Yeck and McGreevey, 24). During one scene the camera alternates between the passengers on the stagecoach and the

Statement: We can help children appreciate the value of education. INTRODUCTION I.Attention Step: My parents are among those parents who tell their children that, education is the most precious treasure I can give you. Growing up, the value of education has really been instilled among the four of us and almost everything that we need for school is being provided. I saw my parents sacrifices to make sure that we go on with our studies conveniently. Perhaps these are some of the factors why education is so close to my heart and why, as early as now, I want to help or encourage children go to school. It really moves my heart whenever I see people walking miles just to go to school or working part time job to sustain their education. I admire them for persevering despite the challenges that they face. Many of them, despite their perseverance, have already given up; some are still persevering; and some did not even have the chance to receive primary education. I am saying this because I believe that you too value education as much as I do. I also believe that, in one way or another, you want to do something for our less privileged brothers and sisters who want to go to school. And I urge you to start doing it now.
