Evolution Of Tennis Research Paper
Over 17 million people played tennis in 2012, according to the Outdoor Foundation.
Tennis is a steadily growing sport and industry with millions of people joining every year.
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans started a form of what we call tennis today. Many
people want to know how tennis evolved from being the game of kings to being played by many
different people. Tennis evolved from being played by kings in England and France which then has
matriculated throughout many years to many different people and places in the world.
What has shaped the growth of tennis to what it is today from all different aspects socially,
physically, culturally and historically? Socially, tennis has grown from being played by socio

The United States Tennis Association(USTA) was founded in 1881, but the Women s Tennis
Association was only started in 1973. Tennis is one of the main sports that has different playing
rules with men and women, men play best of five sets and women play best of three sets, meaning
that the first person to win six games with at least a difference of two will win that set. A match
consists of the person who wins the most games out of five for men and three for women.
Women were said to be weaker, by men, because at the first Wimbledon tournament a woman
wearing the extremely hot uniforms, that consisted of long multi layered skirts, long sleeved
blouses and corsets, passed out during a match. Recently there has been talk about making the
the women s matches 5 sets instead of three as long as people are talking about and want it, it
can always happen. The oldest wimbledon match played was only available for males to
compete. Although it didn t take long for women to join in and that was in 1884. During this
time a lot of people saw men as being the stronger sex and more capable, but it only took about
six years to add females into the tennis community. While the game has come very far with
equality, it s still not perfect. In 2014 a Forbes article discusses the wage gap in professional tennis
between male and female solely with prize money earnings. Recently women s tennis has been
broadcasted on television just as much as men s

Social Realism By Chua Mia Tee
Chua Mia Tee is one of Singapore s leading realist painter, often known for his oil paintings, which
portray Singapore s culture. Having grown up during Singapore s tumultuous years, his early
paintings reflect nationalistic concerns that occupied Singapore during our early years. More
specifically, his artist style has been called Social Realism, a school of art that responds to the
industrial revolution and urbanisation, focusing more on working class realities. Many of
Singapore s social realists blended anti colonial sentiment, nationalist aspirations and socialist
concerns in various proportions in their work.
Chua believes that realistic art helps audiences to understand and identify with the work more
easily, thus allowing the art to have more meaning and greater impact on viewers. To... Show more

The society that these individuals lived in had a significant impact on their education. During
colonial rule, many indigenous Malays and the majority of the non English speaking communities
of Singapore suffered various forms of oppression. The independence of Malaya was thus seen as
an opportunity for the diverse ethnic groups to break free from this. The slogan Merdeka, which
means independence in the Malay language, epitomises the rise of anti colonial and nationalist
sentiments. Independence in this context refers to the collective Malayan states and Singapore.
Despite being under colonial rule for a significant period of time, a strong society existed. There
was a strong notion that the three main ethnic groups of Singapore would come together to build a
nation state together. Posters could be seen everywhere promoting the study of the national
language Malay. English was not accepted by the masses back in the past, as they perceived it as
the language of the colony. Malay in essence, was as a tool to unite people from the various ethnic
groups; to enable the common people to come together to build a better

Essay about Air Pollution in Birmingham, Alabama
Air pollution continues to be a significant problem in the city of Birmingham, as it has been for
decades. No one enjoys walking the streets of Birmingham only to taste or smell the smoke and
particulates in the air, not to mention the damaging effects to one s health. Fortunately,
improvements have been made; forty years ago, residents of Birmingham could not even see the
skyline due to the immense amounts of particulates in the air, but now the skyline is visible on a
daily basis. The noticeable improvement indicates the progress that has been made over the years,
but there is still plenty of room for much needed improvement. Birmingham s air quality is among
some of the worst in the United States, but there are several feasible and... Show more content on

For decades, the air quality in Birmingham did not meet EPA criteria, but crossed the threshold this
year. This achievement demonstrates the prominent progress made by the industries and residents
to improve air quality.
Although much improvement has been made, there is still more to be done. Spencer states that In
2011, the American Lung Association ranked Birmingham the eight worst city in the nation for
particle pollution, or soot (An Old Cloud of Polluted Air Lifts from Birmingham s Shoulders).
Birmingham s attempts at improving air quality have been valuable, but the air in Birmingham is
still dirty when compared to other industrial cities. Pollution continues to pose an enormous threat
to residents of urban cities worldwide. In the August 2008 Monthly Update, it is stated that
approximately 800,000 deaths each year can be attributed to outdoor air pollution, making pollution
the single most harmful environmental hazard to human health in urban areas (Kallman). The fact
that pollution kills hundreds of thousands of people each year alone portrays just how dangerous
living in these conditions can be. Kallman writes about a study which proves an increase in upper
respiratory diseases, cardiovascular mortality, respiratory mortality, and low birth weights when
exposed to air pollutants (August 2008: Monthly Update). These can be very serious diseases and
complications which, when contracted, can lead to death or very serious illnesses. There

A Fundamental Advantage Of Ecs Adjustment For Effective...
A fundamental advantage of ECS adjustment for effective dynamic thermal storage is that it is
relatively easy to implement. Conventional air conditioning and thermostats are designed to
perform in slow control loops, on time scales of minutes. ECS adjustment can use time scale
separation and stay away from this effective dc loop action. In this sense, an ac feed forward
signal is injected into a drive to adjust power flow on fast time scales, while avoiding interference
on slow time scales. The average performance of the ECS system remains intact, and the fast
adjustment is transparent to users. Fig. 2 displays this implementation control. Bandpass filtered

A few recent papers [53] [56] have demonstrated a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) concept,
particularly for microgrid applications and usually for distributed generators utilizing the same
ac dc ac conversion stages. The same concept applied on flywheel based energy storage is
discussed in [57]. Given the similarities existed in the MEA power grid and motor controlled
thermal storage, it is deemed feasible to implement the VSM concept in this research. A high
level description is shown in Fig. 3. For a synchronous machine in the rotating reference frame,
the d q voltage and current relationship is shown in (1a b), where vg is the grid voltage, R is the
stator resistance, M is the magnetizing, and Ld = Lq = L is assumed. On the other hand, the
active front end (i.e., the hex bridge converter connected to the gird) follows (2a b) in d q
reference frame at П‰c rotating speed, where Rg and Lg are grid tied resistance and inductance,
and vc is the output voltage at the converter controlled by modulation index from the dc voltage
bus []. The analogy between (1a b) and (2a b) is straightforward. By equating the first three terms
and varying the modulation indices, md and mq, the active front end mimics the VSM proposed in
[ZhongQC]. The purpose of the ac motor tied inverter (i.e., the left hex bridge converter in Fig. 3)
is to main a constant 270 V dc bus by adjusting the motor speed and torque using conventional
vector controls. Given the limited

Analysis Of The Satirical Street Art That Sends Messages...
Introduction Known for his satirical street art that sends messages of awareness of the corrupt
society, Banksy, has remarked that a recent survey or North American males found 42% were
overweight, 34% were critically obese and 8% ate the survey. With the rising awareness and
prevalence, obesity has become an epidemic. In the United States alone, one of every five
Americans are overweight, and one of every five are obese. Among the younger ages of
childhood and adolescence, the National Health and Nutrition Examination reported that 17% of
kids age six through nineteen are obese. This problem, of course, is not limited only to America.
Studies performed by the United Nations have reported that in the year 2000, the number of
people suffering from overnutrition a billion had officially surpassed the number suffering from
malnutrition 800 million. An estimated 2.5 people are added to the global population each
second, and one of them will be deemed obese or overweight. Currently, estimates have shown
that 33% of the world population of 7.08 billion (2.26 billion) are overweight. In the United
States alone, 17% of children and adolescents are obese, and a majority will remain overweight as
adults.Furthermore a rising problem faced, revolves around comorbid conditions historically
linked among obese adult patients only, but are now seen in childhood. One disease in particular,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Lungs
Black Lungs
The media is one of the main influencers in our lives, although some of us may not like to admit it.
We rely on it to test products, provide reviews, and shape our views, among other things. With this
being the case, advertisers have found different ways to entice different audiences and provoke
emotional responses with imagery, sound, and audio cues. This essay about a media advertisement
will bring you through these aspects and explain them more in depth pertaining to my individual
piece. My advertisement was one meant to inform the audience on harmful practices that are
causing the destruction of our forests, and along with it our air. This advertisement is about
deforestation and our air quality.
Our continuous chopping of forests and trees has not only affected us and the forest, but animals
and tribes of people as well. So many living things depend on the forests to survive and without that
we may lose them. Chopping down trees increases the amount of carbon dioxide released into the
atmosphere thus making our air quality worsen. The picture ad really impacts the reader by
showing the picture of a bare forest that symbolizes our lungs, creating a double meaning and more
depth. This issue is very important to our health and the world s. The Help us save the air we
breathe advertisement uses imagery to intensify their points about deforestation and puts this issue
into perspective, causing action to be taken.

Athen An Ancient Goddess And A Modern World Essay
Athena: an Ancient Goddess and a Modern World
The tales of the Gods and heroic mortals originated two millennia ago in the ancient world of
Greece and Roman. Back then, the stories were shared verbally, long before they were ever put to
print by poets such as Hesiod, Homer and Ovid; however the influence of the ancient Greeks upon
modern society can be seen in many aspects of our daily life. The stories found in the ancient myths
we believe somewhat mimic the society from which they are born, and Athena, daughter of Zeus,
has played a part in many of those stories. Athena can be found a of intrigue, as she is a strong
female character in the male dominated world of Mount Olympus. The importance and legacy of
Athena can be seen throughout the centuries in the city of Athens, as well as in art, poetry and
more recently in cinema.
Athena is believed to be the daughter of Zeus, however the story of Athena s actual birth varies.
The most widely accepted story of the birth of Athena can be attributed to Hesiod in his
Theogony. Per Hesiod, Zeus impregnated Metis, known for her wisdom and who it was foretold
would have a child more powerful that their father. Zeus, then swallowed Metis and Athena sprang
from her father s head fully grown and in full armor. Athena has many half siblings which is to
say other offspring of Zeus, such as Ares, Hebe, Persephone, Aphrodite and even the mortal
Heracles. However, Athena is considered to be Zeus s favorite child, he trusted her far above

Getting Closer to God on Religious Pilgrimages in Gregory...
Than longen folk to goon on pilgrimages, said Gregory Chaucer in his book, The Canterbury
Tales, meaning people long to go on religious pilgrimages. The act of pilgrimage during the
Middle Ages had been a very popular and traditional practice in the Christian society. This visit
to shrines or holy places was an act of religious devotion and played a role in the lives of many
Europeans, especially those in the western regions of Medieval Europe. In order to understand the
importance of pilgrimages, we will emphasize the purpose of pilgrimages, the diversity of pilgrims
that took part in them, and the various shrines pilgrims visited. The motive of going on a pilgrimage

During the medieval period, the feudal system was the social structure of Medieval Europe. It
classified the social statuses from monarchs, lords and bishops, knights and clergy, to peasants
being the lowest class. Most of the pilgrims were knights. Knights that pilgrimaged were usually
former crusaders or chivalrous men of numerous wars. During pilgrimages, knights usually took
squires along with them as an act of chivalry (25). Another popular group of pilgrims was the
clergy. The clergy contained clergywomen and clergymen. Clergywomen were usually nuns
and clergymen were mostly monks and priests. (29). Members of the clergy were usually
required to partake in pilgrimages since they were men and women of God. Aside from people
of the higher classes, peasants were also a popular group during pilgrimages. Those pilgrims
ranged from serfs, millers, freemen, plowmen, artisans, and farmers (Housley 656). In The
Canterbury Tales, other types of peasants pilgrimaged. There was a reeve, a yeoman, and a cook
(Chaucer 23). Artisans or guildsmen were people that were skilled in their jobs and supplied others
with the products they mastered in creating. Besides millers, there were artisans who made tools
that were useful for several activities like spoons and spoons for eating. Lastly, criminals usually
went on pilgrimages for punishment including crimes like murder, incest, etc. (Housley 656).

What was the significance of Jewish immigration to Palestine in the 1920s and 1930s?
The investigation assesses demographic shifts to Palestine in the context of the Arab Israeli
Conflict. It more specifically inquires about the impact of Jewish immigration on Palestine in terms
of the effects it had on Jewish Arab relationships in Palestine. It seeks to determine the extent the
third, fourth, and fifth aliyahs of 1919 1939 had on the economic development of the Israeli State
and its social implications. Monographs and general texts will be used to provide background on
the conflict, including the rise of Zionism, the British Mandate, the White Paper, and the Peel
Commission. This context will also be used to critically analyze the role of Jewish immigration to
Palestine and the role it played in land reforms, rioting, and the implementation of restrictions set
by the British government on Palestine. Two secondary sources, William L. Cleveland s A

The Nazi Regime Used Propaganda Posters
The Nazi regime used propaganda posters to primarily expose the German people to a new way
of thinking. In charge of distributing and overseeing the creation of a majority of the
propagandist posters was Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels. Born in Rheydt, Germany he created and
ran the Third Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. There, his goal was to
play upon the hopes, fears, and frustrations of the German people. Then, he wished to harness
those same emotions to spark a German movement and war. Goebbels believed that the written
word, instead of the spoke word, was responsible or countless great events in history. In his
posters he hoped that: Today every German soldier, worker, and pleasant knows what we are
fighting for. This is not a war for thorn and altar; it is a war for wheat and bread, for a full table
three times a day, a war of achievement of material means necessary for a solution of the social
question. There was fire in his blood, and it would end up clearly manifesting in his work on
propaganda posters. Initially Nazi propagandists used niche marketing to connect their posters to
all aspects of German life. Under niche marketing, they concentrated their efforts on smaller, yet
influential groups of people. Some examples included woman working in homes, farmers, factory
workers, and war veterans. If the government could get the support of those distinct groups, then
they knew they would have a strong support base to rely and rally on for

Why Is Dna Testing Wrong
Even with vast majorities of new technology today, DNA testing still finds people guilty in trials
even when they didn t commit the crime. America is known for having one of the most fair minded
criminal justice systems. We give every person, who is arrested, the chance to be proven innocent
until they are found guilty through evidence. Within these trials, DNAtests account for a majority of
the convictions or exonerations.
However, how much are these DNA tests really helping in finding the guilty and freeing the
innocent? According to William C. Thompson, author of The Potential For Error In Forensic DNA
Testing, Errors in DNA testing occur regularly. DNA evidence has caused false incrimination and
false convictions, and will continue to do so. As much as this system is doing well it s actually
causing harm because of the endless amounts of errors it generates and the problems that arise from
the errors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How can we as a country allow such a horrific problem to occur? As a citizen of America, I would
estimate the inaccuracy rate of DNA tests to be around 33%. Thus, the inaccuracy accounts for 1
/3 of the DNA tests performed leaving 2/3 of the tests to be accurate. I think this would be a
reasonable level of inaccuracy because the majority amounts of DNA tests are still correct and
prove individuals to be guilty of crimes they did commit. Additionally, if I was to participate as a
member of a jury this level of inaccuracy still looks reasonably low allowing me to still have faith
in DNA testing and have positive outlook in our nation s judicial

Ivan Pavlov Essay
During the 1890s Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov was looking at salivation in dogs in
response to being fed, when he noticed that his dogs would begin to salivate whenever he
entered the room, even when he was not bringing them food . At first this was something of a
nuisance In his experiment, Pavlov used a bell as his neutral stimulus. Whenever he gave food
to his dogs, he also rang a bell. After a number of repeats of this procedure, he tried the bell on its
own. As you might expect, the bell on its own now caused an increase in salivation. So the dog
had learned an association between the bell and the food and a new behavior had been learnt.
Because this response was learned (or conditioned), it is called a conditioned response.
(simplypsychology.org) The neutral stimulus has become a conditioned stimulus. Pavlov showed
the existence of the unconditioned response by presenting a dog with a bowl of food and the

Wong, influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our perspectives (Young Ch. 6). Throughout
history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their
audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in
1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and
issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer,
lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman
and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an
independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark
headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt,
Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a
writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and,
through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her
ideals into their lives. For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband, first titled
The Brothers. The piece featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was in
charge of caring for a captured, dying Confederate captain and

Smokers in Paris who drop their cigarette butts on the ground will be fined €68, or about $76.
As a result of the 2008 ban on smoking in public places, including bars and restaurants, the 28
percent of individuals who smoke regularly have resorted to littering as a means of disposing of
their used cigarettes. City authorities said that cigarette butts take years to decompose and release
heavy metals and other pollutants into the environment, which are harmful to plants and animals
and pollute the water supply. The fine increased from €35, or about $39, to €68 on Oct.

Why Might Having More Folding Have Been Important To...
Question 1: Researchers found that Einstein s brain had a higher ratio of glial cells to neurons than
other brains. What are glial cells, and why might having more glial cells be important?
Answer 1: Glial cells are cells that surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between
them. Glial cells are also the most abundant cells in the central nervous system. Types of glial cells
include oligodendrocytes, which have processes that form the myelin sheaths around CNS nerve
fibers, astrocytes the most abundant CNS neuroglia, ependymal cells that line cerebrospinal fluid
cavities, microglia cells that are the defensive cells in the CNS, schwann cells and satellite cells,
which form myelin sheaths around CNS never fibers.

being extremely intelligent had a higher amount of glial cells in his brain than the average human.
Question 2: Researchers have noted that Einstein s brain had more complex folding than other
comparison brains. What are the ridges and grooves in the brain called, and why might having more
folding have been important to Einstein s intelligence?
Answers 2: The ridges in the brain are called gyri and the grooves are call sulci.
why might having more folding have been important to Einstein s intelligence?
Many scientist believe that more folding can create extra surface area for mental processes,
allowing more connections between brain cells. With more connections between brain cells a
person like Einstein would be able to make cognitive connections that would otherwise be
impossible. This extra folding may have allowed Einstein to come up with his incredible theories
like the General Theory of Relativity.

Jazz Dance Research Paper
There are many different styles of jazz dance. The first of these is authentic jazz dance. It has
influences that come from African movement, and was developed along with jazz music during the
early 1900s. Some qualities which are often seen in this style include groundedness, syncopation,
polyrhythm, polycentrism, articulation of the torso, circles, improvisation, and individuality. Two
styles of dance which fall into this category include tap dance, which developed as a collection of
native African dances combined with European dances, and club jazzdance, which developed in the
80s ad includes elements such as fast footwork, splits, knee drops, and spins. Another style of jazz

One of these people was Jack Cole. Cole trained with many prominent modern dancers of the time,
including Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Doris Humphrey, and Charles Weidman, as well as studying
ballet with Cecchetti. He danced with Denishawn, a modern company, but also spent time dancing
in nightclubs. He was also introduced to dance styles from India. His influence from ballet,
modern, and ethnic dances, helped him to create his own style, which was seen in his
choreography. He did a lot of choreography that was displayed in either Broadway productions, or
movies. Some of these included Ziegfeld Follies, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Some Like It Hot.
His style included movements such as intensity in the eyes, a low center of gravity, use of levels,
and attack. Another important figure of this period was Katherine Dunham. She received a degree
in anthropology, which she used to research dance traditions in the Caribbean and in Africa.
Although she was primarily trained in modern, her research on dance traditions within the African
American community were an important contribution to jazz dance. She opened several dance
schools throughout her career. One of them, the Dunham School of Dance and Theatre, offered
classes in not only dance, but also subjects such as eukinetics, dance notation, psychology,

Assesment of Level of English Proficiency
CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Because English is so
widely spoken, it has often been referred to as a world language , the lingua franca of the modern
era, and while it is not an official language in most countries, it is currently the language most often
taught as a foreign language. English is widely spoken in the Philippines. It is used as the business

Also, youth is now affected by this low proficiency. Sadly, some methods scare if not bore
students or fail to spark their enthusiasm that they end up sitting in the classroom simply staring
at teachers who do all the talking. The quality of education according to Dela Rosa (2000) has to
start going up or we can call the whole deal off. Government owes us the services of good
teachers, especially language mentors. The researcher, in her seven years of teaching the English
language , is saddened by the students lack of confidence in communicating in English. Many
students prefer to keep quiet in class for fear that when they speak, they might commit errors in
grammar pronunciation, and that their classmates might laugh at them. This is alarming most
especially when a student is in an Oral Communication class and the whole quarter slips away
without a word from a very shy student. With these, the researcher was motivated to assess the
level of English proficiency of the grade 7 students at Payapa National High School which she
believes would be a great basis on designing an action plan in order to further enhance the English
proficiency among students. Conceptual Framework In an attempt to validate the viewpoint that

Modern Meteorology And Its Effects On The Earth
I. Introduction and History Venus and Earth are often called twin planets due to their similar sizes
and locations, so Venus might seem like a reasonable interplanetary vacation spot. However, upon
arrival, the crushing ninety atmospheres of surface pressure and strongest greenhouse effect in the
solar system will render the trip a massive failure (Natural History). Despite their similarities, Earth
and Venus differ greatly with regards to their atmospheres, making Earth a much more hospitable
environment for human habitation. Even though Earth s atmospheredoes not receive nearly as much
appreciation as its oceans or rivers, the layers of gas enveloping Earth are even more essential to the
human race, making atmospheric destruction even more alarming. Although modern meteorology
is considered inaccurate, and precise information about atmospheric conditions is not always
available, understanding of the atmosphere has evolved and improved greatly over the millennia. In
antiquity, atmospheric phenomena was interpreted as a supernatural, often reflecting divine
opinions of man s actions (Fleming). Ancients thought of rainbows as a pathway from mortal Earth
to the Heavens, and observation was limited to the crude human senses. As modern scientific
principles became more prevalent in the 16th and 17th centuries, weather was increasingly seen as
a physical result of atmospheric conditions. For example, RenГ© Descartes discarded the
supernatural view of rainbows, instead

Smart Grids Technologies Can Be Put Into Four Functional...
Generally, smart grids technologies can be put into four functional categories: Information
collectors; information assemblers, displayers, and assessors; information based controllers and
energy resources. Smart grids collected data from various types of sensors. These sensors
measure performance related characteristics of electricity system components. Assessors are
used to analysis and display the information they received from the devices. The information
based controllers devices will use the information that they received to control the other devices
behavior to achieve the goal. Energy or power resources include the technologies that can used to
generate, store, or reduce demand for electricity. However, renewable energy sources have been
used in so many countries to reduce CO2 emissions and provide sustainable electrical power. The
power electronic interface between a renewable energy source and the grid can be used to control
reactive power output and hence the network voltage as well as curtailing real power output, and
so enable the generator to respond to the requirements of the grid. Advanced metering infrastructure
(AMI) is one of the smart grid technologies that have been used in many homes and business. Their
objective is to enable to let the users can use wattage readers to check how much juice their
appliances and gadgets use. They measure energy usage with less than one hour intervals,
communicate usage data back to the utility regularly like up to

Richard Owen, A Prominent Biologist
Richard Owen, a prominent biologist, however, suggested that the tracks found on Devon belong to
a badger that had been distorted by freeze thaw action16. Additionally, the biologist also pointed at
the possibility of the tracks belonging to rats, raccoons and swans that inhabited the Devon area at
the time of the appearance of the tracks. Owen argued that the small animals moved on haystacks
and wall constantly, thereby leaving a trail of tracks. However, this explanationis hard to believe and
is not supported by evidence. As a matter of fact, small animals like rats, raccoons and swans would
not like foot like prints on the surface of the snow. Rather, it would be expected that the tracks will
be continuous and not take any definite pattern since small animals like rats tend to move
haphazardly. Additionally, the animals being nominated here can all fit in four inch drainpipe,
effectively disapproving the argument that they must have caused the tracks that appeared on the
haystacks and wall in Devon.
Another suggestion that the majority have agreed upon is the suggestion that the tracks must have
been left by a Devonport Dockyard experimental balloon that was released by mistake and travelled
across Devon area following its mooring shackles17. However, this explanation is further from the
truth, considering how a balloon would naturally behave from the scientific point of view. As much
as the movement of the balloon would explain the shape of the prints, it is

the terms like cultural imperialism and cultural diplomacy are relatively young, and are mostly

culture/customs or being constructed in a plain and simple fashion. Thus creating a new
invention, a design made from logic owing itself to science rather than to emotion. The house at
Regensburg has the pure prism form and rational plan that make it seem machine like , (Davies,

the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the
hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the
house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground.
Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of
the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to
heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving
features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house
like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates D.I.Y aesthetics.

addition to the conventional house . Herzog merged the two together by creating a two storey

The brand can be one they build themselves or one that they can partner with, as Kripalani did
with Dr. Seuss and was the recognition they need to stand out in the competitive marketplace of
apps. Entrepreneurs shouldn t overspend on development. Entrepreneurs don t know how
successful their app will be until it s out there so they should plan and spend wisely and be
conservative with their ROI predictions. They should also continue to monitor their apps and
watch market trends. From this, they can apply that knowledge to creating their next apps or
updating their existing apps. That applies to developing the app as well as marketing it. One of
the most important lessons for entrepreneurs is to be passionate about their work and love the

The Great Recession Of 2008 Was A Worldwide Economic Downturn
The Great Recession of 2008 was a worldwide economic downturn that impacted the global
economy. Economists consider the economic decline as one of the most damaging recessions that
occurred since the Great Depression of 1930 s. Several documentations and research regarding
the recession have been made to make a better understanding of the economic downturn in 2008
as well as the global economy as a whole. The book used as reference in this essay, the Diary Of A
Very Bad Year: Confessions of an Anonymous Hedge Fund Manager, captured the events
corresponding to the length of the Great Recessionthrough separate interviews of an anonymous

HFM s experience as a hedge fund manager gives value into this information and the authority to
describe what started the crisis. The advantage that follows from the source regarding this idea is
that it recorded information that described the creation of the mortgage bubble in the financial
market, and the damage dealt to the financial system when the mortgage market crashed from a
finance expert. The disadvantage is that the subprime market might not be the only reason of the
misallocation of resources, given the fact that HFM s hedge fund was involved in the subprime
market which might have formed a biased opinion on that matter (18 19). The nature of the source
does not complicate the idea of the cause of the crisis, although concluding that the subprime
market was the main cause could complicate the subject. This clearly shows that the idea of the
misallocation of resources within the book had negatively impacted the financial system that built
the momentum of the economic decline. Another main idea in the book is the linkages of the
financial system to the real economy during the recession. In the duration of the financial crisis,
unemployment as well as job loss increased, wage eroded, and companies and businesses closing
were in significant numbers (66; 83). In a more specific example, the Reserve Primary

The Importance Of The Fourth Crusade
Throughout 11th, and 12th century, the Catholic Church had a keen interest in the religious areas
ruling the Holy Land, it must have been taken for granted in western Christendom that another
major campaign to recover the Holy place would be attempted . The Holy Land represented a
critical historic point for the Christian Orthodox, and Islam on account of its religious monuments
and the power that accompanied the control of the city. To both religions, the significance of the
city was essential, since Jesus and Muhammad were viewed as higher beings in Jerusalem, so
pressures increased all through the Crusadestwo hundred year permanence. With the Muslim
religion on the rise in the Middle East and Asia Minor (Asia Minor, a peninsula also called Anatolia,

The First Law Passed By The Massachusetts Bay Colony
1.PAST LEGISLATION In the mid 1600 s, the first law passed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony
mandated that children start learning the fundamental of education; learn basic reading and writing
by reading the bible and the town s laws. It was believed that for the success and evolution of the
world and specifically their colony, children needed to be educated and knowledgeable.
Furthermore, to strengthen the educational foundation that was forming and with some resistance
from parents, a law was passed in 1647 commissioning the towns create and maintain public
schools. Moving forward, Smith Hughes Act of 1917 commissioned federal revenue to create and
support of secondary and postsecondary vocational training. Emphasis were placed on instruction in
agriculture, home economics, and trades and industry. This act along with the demand for change
and other outlets for education, open the doors for trades that prepared people for jobs. Legislation
during this time contended that this was the best step moving forward to focus on skills to ensure
people were workplace ready. Several years later in 1958, the National Defense Education Act
contributed additional federal dollars to the schools to raise awareness and to heighten the
fundamental importance and priority to focus on STEM. STEM provides instructions in Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math. During this time, emphasis was also placed on strengthening
the foreign languages and provided financial resources and support

Zoos And The Best Interest Of The Animals Essay
Nowadays, you can find a zoo in any state. They are continuing to pop up everywhere, which
raises the debate surrounding whether zoos are actually beneficial or if they serve a purpose at all.
However the argument that zoos provide a way to observe, learn, and for entertainment purposes
may not always be in the best interest of the animals. As there are far more negative view points
against the value of zoos, such as the use of whips electric prods, and other blunt instruments. By
doing so forces innocent animals to do as humans say and what they want only for the pleasure of
pleasing a crowd. The provided statistics and facts show just how wrong and completely cruel
keeping animals in captivityis not right in anyway. Unfortunately, zoos cannot provide adequate
space necessary for animals to roam freely and possesses an overabundance of breeding, with
minimal room for offspring.
Although, zoos may be used for several reasons such as: Wildlife observation, for educational
purpose, conservation of near endangered species, and for entertainment. Further, even if an animal
is facing extinction zoos have no right to capture, confined, and breed an animal. These awful
places say they are educating the community. When in reality they are just trapping animals and
forcing them to live in captivity for a profit. Millions of people frequent Zoos and Aquarium
habitats yearly, for observation and entertainment purpose. Annually more than 700 million people
visit zoos and aquariums

How Does Music Impact A Movie Scene
How does music impact a movie scene and what would happen if it was different music?
Hello everyone, so this is my third vlog and I think I am getting the hang of it. Today, I am going
to answer Taylor s question for this week: How does music impact a movie scene and what would
happen if it was different music?
I will first address the impact of music and sound effect in a movie. A movie is typically only 2 to 3
hours long; and so with every frame, filmmakers and videographers are trying to convey a specific
emotion. From the characters outfit to the lighting and the location, these are very carefully thought
out. And music is among the most critical point, certainly a very powerful one also.
Music creates the film s vibe, transcend the

How Far Were The Jeffersonians Successful In Achieving...
To what extent were the Jeffersonians successful in achieving their goals between 1801 1809?
Thomas Jefferson was the second vice president and the third president of the United States. During
his time as president, the Jeffersons were highly successful in achieving their goals. In 1800, the
nation had a choice between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Federalist feared Jefferson would
return power to the states, dismantle thea army and the navy, and overturn Hamilton s financial
system. The Revolution of 1800, the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, and the success against
Barbary Pirates of 1801 to 1805 were all success for the Jeffersons between 1801 and 1809. The
Revolution of 1800, also known as the election of 1800, was extremely successful for the
Jeffersons. This election was unlike any other election in history. This was the first time parties

The United States paid around 15 million dollars for France for over 800,000 square miles of
land. This land deal was one of the greatest accomplishments for Thomas Jefferson presidency
but also caused a major philosophical problem for Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson felt that this deal
was so necessary because in 1801, Spain and France signed a secret treaty ceding Louisiana to
France. France then became a potential threat to America. He feared if America did not purchase
New Orleans from France, war would break out. Jefferson sent envoys to France to secure the
purchase, they returned with an agreement to buy the whole Louisiana territory. Napoleon needed
the money to help pay for the war against England. American did not have the money to pay the 15
million dollars up front, however they borrowed the money from Great Britain at 6% interest.
When America purchases this land, the land area of America nearly doubled. Jefferson is known

Division or Analysis: Memento
The film Memento, directed by Christopher Nolan, is an American neo noir, mystery
psychological thriller film that was released in cinemas in the year 2000. The movie was inspired
and based off one of Nolan s younger brother s short story; Memento Mori. Despite not widely
known, the movie is critically acclaimed for what it was able to accomplish. The movie did not do
well in theaters nor were its box office statistics notable, however the movie is well received by
critics and cinema centric websites. Memento is astounding and astounding film because of its

The film has one overall branching storyline but is told through two different time lines. The
film begins at the end of the story and is told backwards, colored, in fifteen minute intervals.
Each scene going backwards is told in these specific intervals to juxtapose Leonard s condition,
where the overall storyline is confusing and doesn t make a lot of sense, similar to how Leonard
feels constantly. And his general length of memory is also about fifteen minute parallel to the
lengths of scenes in the movie. While most of the plot is told backwards and new information is
revealed in these intervals, the story s reverse order sequence is broken off and alternated by no
color, black and white scenes. These scenes are shown interchanged with the main backwards plot
and alternate every scene. The colorless parts are depicted in standard chronological order to give
the story better overall rhythm. As the main story is nonlinear, the plot starts to become more and
more difficult to understand, so the director uses related black and white scenes that connect with
the colored story line. This structure is used to keep the flow consistent. In written material
sentences are usually structured so that old previously established information is shown at the
beginning of the sentence and new, untold information is organized toward the end. Without these
black and white interludes, the story would be constantly

Essay On Black Colleges
Historically Black Colleges and Universities were established for African Americans during a time
of strict segregation. During slavery, to keep African Americans afraid and submissive, White
Americans had laws in place making it illegal for them to learn how to read and write. For most of
America s history, African Americans who received a college educationcould only get it from an
HBCU. Today, HBCUs remain one of the surest ways for an African American
, or student of any
race, to receive a high quality education. The first Historically Black College and Universityto be
established is formerly known as the Institute for Colored Youth founded by Richard Humpreys in
1837, approximately 26 years before slavery ended. Today, this school is better known as Cheney
University of Pennsylvania, the oldest African American institution of higher learning. Two other
institutions that were later established prior to the Civil War are Lincoln University founded in
1854 and Wilberforce... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Uveitis Is An Eye Disease That Mainly Affects Golden...
Pigmentary Uveitis is an eye disease that mostly affects Golden Retrievers. Pigmentary Uveitis is
also known as Golden Retriever Uveitis, cystic glaucoma, or the shortened name of PU. PU is
thought to have originated from the Northeastern part of the United States, and was mostly in
Golden Retrievers. PU also affects crossbred dogs with Golden s such as Goldendoodles. Although
it is present in crossbreds, the disease still mainly affects Golden Retrievers. This is a genetic
disease that affects the eye, and the eye only. Uveitis is an inflammation of the uveal tract, which
includes the iris (Golden RetrieverUveitis). PU is usually diagnosed around the age of 8.6 years.
Which means if they were breeding dogs, they would have already passed it on to their
offspring. This genetic disease could spread very quickly, considering the signs are not visible
until after they have had offspring. Since breeding programs outside of the United States have
different certification standards, researchers do not know if PU has spread to other countries at
this time. Pigmentary Uveitis is usually diagnosed around the age of 8.6 years, although there
are cases that have reported as early as 2.5 years old (Sullivan, T., DVM) and the oldest was 14.5
years old (Sapienza, J., DVM). Most breeding dogs get diagnosed at one of their eye tests, called
CERF (Canine Eye Registry Foundation), and then go for further testing. Other non breeding dogs
get diagnosed by concerned owners that

Critical Thought And Popular Culture
Mid America Christian University has become my home in the four short months I have been
here. It was a scary and tough decision for me to attend MACU but I wouldn t want it any other
way. Critical thought and popular culture was a required course to take and to be honest, I thought
it was going to be a super boring class. But, it taught me a lot about myself and made me examine
my calling in life a little deeperthan before. In turn, I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Critical
thoughtand popular culture taught me a lot about who I am. These realizations came from class
discussions, learning my strengths, and even a little bitfrom reading Unlikely Disciple. For one, I

I have been able to really figure out in depth what my calling is and what the next step in life
might hold for me. During one of our discussions, we discussed homosexuality and how we
should treat those who live that lifestyle. I came to the conclusion that although I strongly
disagree with that way of living, I do not think that it is our job or our position to try and make
them live the way we do. That was something that I went back and forth with ever since I moved
to Mississippi. I moved at the end of my junior year, and the only person that talked to me was
Colten Nugent, and Colten was gay. We became super close and he knew my view on his
decisions but not once did I feel like it was my place to tell him to stop. He believed in the Lord
and I think that things like addiction and homosexuality are things that the Lord has to work
through with the person, not people. I discovered through this class that this is a social issue
that I am passionate about. Although, I do still believe that we should set a good example of
what being a Christian should be. This was a topic that was very apparent throughout the book
by Kevin Roose, The Unlikely Disciple. I think my biggest pet peeve when it comes to religion is
when people call themselves Christians but do everything in their power to act otherwise. I always
knew that my heart was built around kids, but MACU has helped shape the exact group of kids
that my ministry is going to

Analysis of Wing Safety Using Full-Range Leadership Model...
During the past eight months this wing has endured a horrific string of safety accidents resulting
in the death or serious injury of multiple individuals. Unfortunately service members and/or
dependents have been identified as the root cause. As the new Chief of the Wing Safety office
this is my number #1 priority. I cannot solve this problem alone and will rely heavily on my
team. This paper will explain how I analyzed the current environment using the Full Range
Leadership Model (FRLM) as well my plan to build them back up using the same model.

committed to solving this problem and will do so without cutting corners. Second, I will make it
clear that I cannot do this alone. Following the intellectual stimulation model I will communicate to
them the need to come up with new ideas, but just as important, I want them involved in decision
making process. Third, I will address the morale issue by using the inspirational motivation
model. They need to hear we will succeed. By using this technique I will convey to them that
despite the awesome challenge that lies before us, we will succeed and save lives. This will be a
theme throughout our problem solving process in order to eliminate self doubt and instill
confidence. Finally, like any team in a sport or work environment, not everyone is the same and
each person may require different levels of attention. Simply put, I need to know who these people
really are. It is my responsibility to provide the proper feedback, guidance and mentorship to each
of them using the individual consideration trait. In this role I will be developing safety experts
today, who in turn, can spread their knowledge and successful techniques to the troops of tomorrow.

Book Thief Effect
Don t judge a book by it s cover. Unless, of course, the cover hints at a major literary element used
throughout the entire book. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is printed with a series of
dominoes on the cover. Simply picking up the book for the first time, a reader would not know
the meaning behind the image; but as the story unfolds, its significance and meaning is realized.
Cause and effect has a major impact on our lives. Actions all have a reaction and a consequence.
The Book Thief is an excellent example of this. When Hans helped the Jewish man in the street,
he was viewed as a Jew lover which resulted in fear that his house would be searched for hidden
Jews. Because of the fear, Max was forced to leave for all their safety. When... Show more content

Babbitt By Sinclair Lewis And How The Other Half Lives
GENERAL INTRODUCTION. GIVE HISTORICAL CONTEXT. Both Babbitt by Sinclair
Lewis and How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis expose injustice in society; however, Lewis
establishes a connection between the unfulfilling American dream and hypocrisy of society in the
1920s in the middle class, and Riis exposes the gap between the impoverished and dangerous
conditions of the poor and the uncaring or uneducated middle and upper class in the context of
New York. Set in the 1920s, Babbitt captures both political and personal unrest, as well as social
rebellion. Written in third person narrative, Babbitt s characters include political extremists and
those with overt mistrust of the opposing political party: how Seneca Doane, a radical lawyer, is
treated by society embodies this notion. In fact, most men that influence society blacklist Doane;
men like William Enthrone and Virgil Gunch view Doane as a communist threat, and when Babbitt
suddenly defends Doane and radical politics, these men are caught between complete disbelief and
threatening mistrust. QUOTE. How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis is a nonfiction story that
recounts Riis s life after immigrating to the United Statesfrom Denmark in 1870. When Riis first
immigrated to the United States, he took low paying jobs, and during this time, he experienced the
utter povertyin New York City. After rising in social standing, Riis found work as a police reporter

Pip And Magwitch And Money In Great Expectations By...
Throughout Great Expectations, money is a huge force that determines the layout of people s
lives. Although necessary to survive, Charles Dickens shows how too much wealth can be
detrimental for a relationship. This is clearly seen in the relationship between Pip and Magwitch
and also evident in Estella and Miss. Havisham s relationship. The gaining of wealth for
Magwitch is not good for Pip later on. Magwitch gains a fortune working in Australia and sends
it back to Pip in the hopes of making [him] a gentleman (Dickens 321). He feels ownership over
him from that point onwards. In that way, he is rebelling against society with Pip as his pawn.
He also expects an unconditional loyalty from Pip due to the fact that Magwitch is the reason for
him progressing in society. For Pip, the sudden accumulation of wealth is harmful to his character.
He loses sight of who he is and disregards people who have loved him all because of his new status
increase. Pip is no happier with the money and mentions numerous times within Great Expectations
how he feels if he had been left at the forge he would have been far from contented, yet, by
comparison, happy (Dickens 321). Money was something that he had always wished for but was
not the key to happiness, as he had once thought. Magwitch s wealth causes him to disdain Joe, his
original father figure. Pip even looks toward Magwitch in the same light of disgust because of his
past actions. The only reason Pip does not turn Magwitch in

Ultrasound Position Papers
Position Paper My first experience with physical therapy occurred in my small hometown of
northern Michigan. The clinic was a local private practice which had been around for years.
Looking back, some of the techniques used in this location did not seem to be exclusively
evidenced based. One specific instance I recall is how my physical therapist used ultrasound on my
knee after I tore my ACL. This treatment technique in the physical therapy setting is what I would
like to focus this paper on. Never being employed as a physical therapy aide or even in the
healthcare setting my experience and knowledge on the subject was minimal. The physical therapist
had my full trust and any technique he performed went on without question. One could assume...

Therefore, if you do or do not decide to use ultrasound in your practice, there should also be
exercise and movement based treatments in the plan. Through researching this topic, I have made
some great conclusions. I believe it is paramount that additional research is conducted regarding the
effectiveness of ultrasound as treatment. If I had to choose between using or not using ultrasound
in my practice, I would not use it. I believe our profession is capable of problem solving and
developing new techniques that will be even more effective and most importantly, evidenced based.
I want to be known for my integrity and trustworthiness with my patients. I feel as though the 5 10
minutes it takes to treat with ultrasound could be used in a more effective way. Now, if a patient
were to specifically ask for ultrasound as a treatment, I would explain what the research states. If
they still wanted to, maybe because of previous experience, I would continue with the ultrasound
treatment. In the vast majority of cases, ultrasound is completely safe. If the patient shows
improvement from ultrasound, placebo or not, it benefits the patient. The patient is the most
important aspect of this argument, we cannot forget

  • 2. Evolution Of Tennis Research Paper Over 17 million people played tennis in 2012, according to the Outdoor Foundation. Tennis is a steadily growing sport and industry with millions of people joining every year. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans started a form of what we call tennis today. Many people want to know how tennis evolved from being the game of kings to being played by many different people. Tennis evolved from being played by kings in England and France which then has matriculated throughout many years to many different people and places in the world. What has shaped the growth of tennis to what it is today from all different aspects socially, physically, culturally and historically? Socially, tennis has grown from being played by socio economically privileged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States Tennis Association(USTA) was founded in 1881, but the Women s Tennis Association was only started in 1973. Tennis is one of the main sports that has different playing rules with men and women, men play best of five sets and women play best of three sets, meaning that the first person to win six games with at least a difference of two will win that set. A match consists of the person who wins the most games out of five for men and three for women. Women were said to be weaker, by men, because at the first Wimbledon tournament a woman wearing the extremely hot uniforms, that consisted of long multi layered skirts, long sleeved blouses and corsets, passed out during a match. Recently there has been talk about making the the women s matches 5 sets instead of three as long as people are talking about and want it, it can always happen. The oldest wimbledon match played was only available for males to compete. Although it didn t take long for women to join in and that was in 1884. During this time a lot of people saw men as being the stronger sex and more capable, but it only took about six years to add females into the tennis community. While the game has come very far with equality, it s still not perfect. In 2014 a Forbes article discusses the wage gap in professional tennis between male and female solely with prize money earnings. Recently women s tennis has been broadcasted on television just as much as men s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Realism By Chua Mia Tee Chua Mia Tee is one of Singapore s leading realist painter, often known for his oil paintings, which portray Singapore s culture. Having grown up during Singapore s tumultuous years, his early paintings reflect nationalistic concerns that occupied Singapore during our early years. More specifically, his artist style has been called Social Realism, a school of art that responds to the industrial revolution and urbanisation, focusing more on working class realities. Many of Singapore s social realists blended anti colonial sentiment, nationalist aspirations and socialist concerns in various proportions in their work. Chua believes that realistic art helps audiences to understand and identify with the work more easily, thus allowing the art to have more meaning and greater impact on viewers. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The society that these individuals lived in had a significant impact on their education. During colonial rule, many indigenous Malays and the majority of the non English speaking communities of Singapore suffered various forms of oppression. The independence of Malaya was thus seen as an opportunity for the diverse ethnic groups to break free from this. The slogan Merdeka, which means independence in the Malay language, epitomises the rise of anti colonial and nationalist sentiments. Independence in this context refers to the collective Malayan states and Singapore. Despite being under colonial rule for a significant period of time, a strong society existed. There was a strong notion that the three main ethnic groups of Singapore would come together to build a nation state together. Posters could be seen everywhere promoting the study of the national language Malay. English was not accepted by the masses back in the past, as they perceived it as the language of the colony. Malay in essence, was as a tool to unite people from the various ethnic groups; to enable the common people to come together to build a better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Air Pollution in Birmingham, Alabama Air pollution continues to be a significant problem in the city of Birmingham, as it has been for decades. No one enjoys walking the streets of Birmingham only to taste or smell the smoke and particulates in the air, not to mention the damaging effects to one s health. Fortunately, improvements have been made; forty years ago, residents of Birmingham could not even see the skyline due to the immense amounts of particulates in the air, but now the skyline is visible on a daily basis. The noticeable improvement indicates the progress that has been made over the years, but there is still plenty of room for much needed improvement. Birmingham s air quality is among some of the worst in the United States, but there are several feasible and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For decades, the air quality in Birmingham did not meet EPA criteria, but crossed the threshold this year. This achievement demonstrates the prominent progress made by the industries and residents to improve air quality. Although much improvement has been made, there is still more to be done. Spencer states that In 2011, the American Lung Association ranked Birmingham the eight worst city in the nation for particle pollution, or soot (An Old Cloud of Polluted Air Lifts from Birmingham s Shoulders). Birmingham s attempts at improving air quality have been valuable, but the air in Birmingham is still dirty when compared to other industrial cities. Pollution continues to pose an enormous threat to residents of urban cities worldwide. In the August 2008 Monthly Update, it is stated that approximately 800,000 deaths each year can be attributed to outdoor air pollution, making pollution the single most harmful environmental hazard to human health in urban areas (Kallman). The fact that pollution kills hundreds of thousands of people each year alone portrays just how dangerous living in these conditions can be. Kallman writes about a study which proves an increase in upper respiratory diseases, cardiovascular mortality, respiratory mortality, and low birth weights when exposed to air pollutants (August 2008: Monthly Update). These can be very serious diseases and complications which, when contracted, can lead to death or very serious illnesses. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Fundamental Advantage Of Ecs Adjustment For Effective... A fundamental advantage of ECS adjustment for effective dynamic thermal storage is that it is relatively easy to implement. Conventional air conditioning and thermostats are designed to perform in slow control loops, on time scales of minutes. ECS adjustment can use time scale separation and stay away from this effective dc loop action. In this sense, an ac feed forward signal is injected into a drive to adjust power flow on fast time scales, while avoiding interference on slow time scales. The average performance of the ECS system remains intact, and the fast adjustment is transparent to users. Fig. 2 displays this implementation control. Bandpass filtered varying power must be applied with band and amplitude limitations before getting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A few recent papers [53] [56] have demonstrated a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) concept, particularly for microgrid applications and usually for distributed generators utilizing the same ac dc ac conversion stages. The same concept applied on flywheel based energy storage is discussed in [57]. Given the similarities existed in the MEA power grid and motor controlled thermal storage, it is deemed feasible to implement the VSM concept in this research. A high level description is shown in Fig. 3. For a synchronous machine in the rotating reference frame, the d q voltage and current relationship is shown in (1a b), where vg is the grid voltage, R is the stator resistance, M is the magnetizing, and Ld = Lq = L is assumed. On the other hand, the active front end (i.e., the hex bridge converter connected to the gird) follows (2a b) in d q reference frame at П‰c rotating speed, where Rg and Lg are grid tied resistance and inductance, and vc is the output voltage at the converter controlled by modulation index from the dc voltage bus []. The analogy between (1a b) and (2a b) is straightforward. By equating the first three terms and varying the modulation indices, md and mq, the active front end mimics the VSM proposed in [ZhongQC]. The purpose of the ac motor tied inverter (i.e., the left hex bridge converter in Fig. 3) is to main a constant 270 V dc bus by adjusting the motor speed and torque using conventional vector controls. Introduction Known for his satirical street art that sends messages of awareness of the corrupt society, Banksy, has remarked that a recent survey or North American males found 42% were overweight, 34% were critically obese and 8% ate the survey. With the rising awareness and prevalence, obesity has become an epidemic. In the United States alone, one of every five Americans are overweight, and one of every five are obese. Among the younger ages of childhood and adolescence, the National Health and Nutrition Examination reported that 17% of kids age six through nineteen are obese. This problem, of course, is not limited only to America. Studies performed by the United Nations have reported that in the year 2000, the number of people suffering from overnutrition a billion had officially surpassed the number suffering from malnutrition 800 million. An estimated 2.5 people are added to the global population each second, and one of them will be deemed obese or overweight. Currently, estimates have shown that 33% of the world population of 7.08 billion (2.26 billion) are overweight. In the United States alone, 17% of children and adolescents are obese, and a majority will remain overweight as adults.Furthermore a rising problem faced, revolves around comorbid conditions historically linked among obese adult patients only, but are now seen in childhood. • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Lungs Black Lungs The media is one of the main influencers in our lives, although some of us may not like to admit it. We rely on it to test products, provide reviews, and shape our views, among other things. With this being the case, advertisers have found different ways to entice different audiences and provoke emotional responses with imagery, sound, and audio cues. This essay about a media advertisement will bring you through these aspects and explain them more in depth pertaining to my individual piece. My advertisement was one meant to inform the audience on harmful practices that are causing the destruction of our forests, and along with it our air. This advertisement is about deforestation and our air quality. Our continuous chopping of forests and trees has not only affected us and the forest, but animals and tribes of people as well. So many living things depend on the forests to survive and without that we may lose them. Chopping down trees increases the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere thus making our air quality worsen. The picture ad really impacts the reader by showing the picture of a bare forest that symbolizes our lungs, creating a double meaning and more depth. This issue is very important to our health and the world s. The Help us save the air we breathe advertisement uses imagery to intensify their points about deforestation and puts this issue into perspective, causing action to be taken. • 8. Athen An Ancient Goddess And A Modern World Essay Athena: an Ancient Goddess and a Modern World The tales of the Gods and heroic mortals originated two millennia ago in the ancient world of Greece and Roman. Back then, the stories were shared verbally, long before they were ever put to print by poets such as Hesiod, Homer and Ovid; however the influence of the ancient Greeks upon modern society can be seen in many aspects of our daily life. The stories found in the ancient myths we believe somewhat mimic the society from which they are born, and Athena, daughter of Zeus, has played a part in many of those stories. Athena can be found a of intrigue, as she is a strong female character in the male dominated world of Mount Olympus. The importance and legacy of Athena can be seen throughout the centuries in the city of Athens, as well as in art, poetry and more recently in cinema. Athena is believed to be the daughter of Zeus, however the story of Athena s actual birth varies. The most widely accepted story of the birth of Athena can be attributed to Hesiod in his Theogony. Per Hesiod, Zeus impregnated Metis, known for her wisdom and who it was foretold would have a child more powerful that their father. Zeus, then swallowed Metis and Athena sprang from her father s head fully grown and in full armor. Than longen folk to goon on pilgrimages, said Gregory Chaucer in his book, The Canterbury Tales, meaning people long to go on religious pilgrimages. The act of pilgrimage during the Middle Ages had been a very popular and traditional practice in the Christian society. This visit to shrines or holy places was an act of religious devotion and played a role in the lives of many Europeans, especially those in the western regions of Medieval Europe. During the medieval period, the feudal system was the social structure of Medieval Europe. It classified the social statuses from monarchs, lords and bishops, knights and clergy, to peasants being the lowest class. Most of the pilgrims were knights. Knights that pilgrimaged were usually former crusaders or chivalrous men of numerous wars. During pilgrimages, knights usually took squires along with them as an act of chivalry (25). Another popular group of pilgrims was the clergy. The clergy contained clergywomen and clergymen. Clergywomen were usually nuns and clergymen were mostly monks and priests. (29). Members of the clergy were usually required to partake in pilgrimages since they were men and women of God. Aside from people of the higher classes, peasants were also a popular group during pilgrimages. Those pilgrims ranged from serfs, millers, freemen, plowmen, artisans, and farmers (Housley 656). In The Canterbury Tales, other types of peasants pilgrimaged. There was a reeve, a yeoman, and a cook (Chaucer 23). Artisans or guildsmen were people that were skilled in their jobs and supplied others with the products they mastered in creating. Besides millers, there were artisans who made tools that were useful for several activities like spoons and spoons for eating. • 12. The Nazi Regime Used Propaganda Posters The Nazi regime used propaganda posters to primarily expose the German people to a new way of thinking. In charge of distributing and overseeing the creation of a majority of the propagandist posters was Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels. Born in Rheydt, Germany he created and ran the Third Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. There, his goal was to play upon the hopes, fears, and frustrations of the German people. Then, he wished to harness those same emotions to spark a German movement and war. Goebbels believed that the written word, instead of the spoke word, was responsible or countless great events in history. In his posters he hoped that: Today every German soldier, worker, and pleasant knows what we are fighting for. This is not a war for thorn and altar; it is a war for wheat and bread, for a full table three times a day, a war of achievement of material means necessary for a solution of the social question. There was fire in his blood, and it would end up clearly manifesting in his work on propaganda posters. Initially Nazi propagandists used niche marketing to connect their posters to all aspects of German life. Under niche marketing, they concentrated their efforts on smaller, yet influential groups of people. Some examples included woman working in homes, farmers, factory workers, and war veterans. If the government could get the support of those distinct groups, then they knew they would have a strong support base to rely and rally on for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America is known for having one of the most fair minded criminal justice systems. We give every person, who is arrested, the chance to be proven innocent until they are found guilty through evidence. Within these trials, DNAtests account for a majority of the convictions or exonerations. However, how much are these DNA tests really helping in finding the guilty and freeing the innocent? According to William C. Thompson, author of The Potential For Error In Forensic DNA Testing, Errors in DNA testing occur regularly. Ivan Pavlov Essay During the 1890s Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov was looking at salivation in dogs in response to being fed, when he noticed that his dogs would begin to salivate whenever he entered the room, even when he was not bringing them food . At first this was something of a nuisance In his experiment, Pavlov used a bell as his neutral stimulus. Whenever he gave food to his dogs, he also rang a bell. After a number of repeats of this procedure, he tried the bell on its own. As you might expect, the bell on its own now caused an increase in salivation. So the dog had learned an association between the bell and the food and a new behavior had been learnt. Because this response was learned (or conditioned), it is called a conditioned response. Generally, smart grids technologies can be put into four functional categories: Information collectors; information assemblers, displayers, and assessors; information based controllers and energy resources. Smart grids collected data from various types of sensors. These sensors measure performance related characteristics of electricity system components. Assessors are used to analysis and display the information they received from the devices. The information based controllers devices will use the information that they received to control the other devices behavior to achieve the goal. Energy or power resources include the technologies that can used to generate, store, or reduce demand for electricity. Additionally, the biologist also pointed at the possibility of the tracks belonging to rats, raccoons and swans that inhabited the Devon area at the time of the appearance of the tracks. Owen argued that the small animals moved on haystacks and wall constantly, thereby leaving a trail of tracks. However, this explanationis hard to believe and is not supported by evidence. As a matter of fact, small animals like rats, raccoons and swans would not like foot like prints on the surface of the snow. Rather, it would be expected that the tracks will be continuous and not take any definite pattern since small animals like rats tend to move haphazardly. Additionally, the animals being nominated here can all fit in four inch drainpipe, effectively disapproving the argument that they must have caused the tracks that appeared on the haystacks and wall in Devon. Another suggestion that the majority have agreed upon is the suggestion that the tracks must have been left by a Devonport Dockyard experimental balloon that was released by mistake and travelled across Devon area following its mooring shackles17. Thus creating a new invention, a design made from logic owing itself to science rather than to emotion. The house at Regensburg has the pure prism form and rational plan that make it seem machine like , (Davies, C. 2006) whilst using wood that is seen as non typical Modernist material. The appearance loses the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground. Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates D.I.Y aesthetics. Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times, but this was always an addition to the conventional house . Economists consider the economic decline as one of the most damaging recessions that occurred since the Great Depression of 1930 s. Several documentations and research regarding the recession have been made to make a better understanding of the economic downturn in 2008 as well as the global economy as a whole. The interviews contain information shared by HFM that describes the Great... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... HFM s experience as a hedge fund manager gives value into this information and the authority to describe what started the crisis. The advantage that follows from the source regarding this idea is that it recorded information that described the creation of the mortgage bubble in the financial market, and the damage dealt to the financial system when the mortgage market crashed from a finance expert. The disadvantage is that the subprime market might not be the only reason of the misallocation of resources, given the fact that HFM s hedge fund was involved in the subprime market which might have formed a biased opinion on that matter (18 19). The nature of the source does not complicate the idea of the cause of the crisis, although concluding that the subprime market was the main cause could complicate the subject. This clearly shows that the idea of the misallocation of resources within the book had negatively impacted the financial system that built the momentum of the economic decline. Another main idea in the book is the linkages of the financial system to the real economy during the recession. Both Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis and How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis expose injustice in society; however, Lewis establishes a connection between the unfulfilling American dream and hypocrisy of society in the 1920s in the middle class, and Riis exposes the gap between the impoverished and dangerous conditions of the poor and the uncaring or uneducated middle and upper class in the context of New York. Set in the 1920s, Babbitt captures both political and personal unrest, as well as social rebellion. Written in third person narrative, Babbitt s characters include political extremists and those with overt mistrust of the opposing political party: how Seneca Doane, a radical lawyer, is treated by society embodies this notion. In fact, most men that influence society blacklist Doane; men like William Enthrone and Virgil Gunch view Doane as a communist threat, and when Babbitt suddenly defends Doane and radical politics, these men are caught between complete disbelief and threatening mistrust. Before commencing the experiment, the rats are allowed a week to become accustomed to the facility. After they have become 8 weeks of age, the rats are randomly placed in two groups, one that is exposed to a 12 hour light: 12 hour dark cycle (n=30 per group) and another that is exposed to a 12 hour light:12 hour dim light cycle (n=30 per group). The rats will be examined under experimental lighting for 3 weeks. The intensity of the light will be measured using a Traceable Dual Display light meter [1]. In order to ensure that this experiment will give us an outcome, we can compare it to a study that has already been conducted. Siberian hamsters were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 56. Pip And Magwitch And Money In Great Expectations By... Throughout Great Expectations, money is a huge force that determines the layout of people s lives. Although necessary to survive, Charles Dickens shows how too much wealth can be detrimental for a relationship. This is clearly seen in the relationship between Pip and Magwitch and also evident in Estella and Miss. Havisham s relationship. The gaining of wealth for Magwitch is not good for Pip later on. Magwitch gains a fortune working in Australia and sends it back to Pip in the hopes of making [him] a gentleman (Dickens 321). He feels ownership over him from that point onwards. In that way, he is rebelling against society with Pip as his pawn. He also expects an unconditional loyalty from Pip due to the fact that Magwitch is the reason for him progressing in society. For Pip, the sudden accumulation of wealth is harmful to his character. He loses sight of who he is and disregards people who have loved him all because of his new status increase. Pip is no happier with the money and mentions numerous times within Great Expectations how he feels if he had been left at the forge he would have been far from contented, yet, by comparison, happy (Dickens 321). Money was something that he had always wished for but was not the key to happiness, as he had once thought. Magwitch s wealth causes him to disdain Joe, his original father figure. Pip even looks toward Magwitch in the same light of disgust because of his past actions. The only reason Pip does not turn Magwitch in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Ultrasound Position Papers Position Paper My first experience with physical therapy occurred in my small hometown of northern Michigan. The clinic was a local private practice which had been around for years. Looking back, some of the techniques used in this location did not seem to be exclusively evidenced based. One specific instance I recall is how my physical therapist used ultrasound on my knee after I tore my ACL. This treatment technique in the physical therapy setting is what I would like to focus this paper on. Never being employed as a physical therapy aide or even in the healthcare setting my experience and knowledge on the subject was minimal. The physical therapist had my full trust and any technique he performed went on without question. One could assume... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, if you do or do not decide to use ultrasound in your practice, there should also be exercise and movement based treatments in the plan. Through researching this topic, I have made some great conclusions. I believe it is paramount that additional research is conducted regarding the effectiveness of ultrasound as treatment. If I had to choose between using or not using ultrasound in my practice, I would not use it. I believe our profession is capable of problem solving and developing new techniques that will be even more effective and most importantly, evidenced based. I want to be known for my integrity and trustworthiness with my patients. I feel as though the 5 10 minutes it takes to treat with ultrasound could be used in a more effective way. Now, if a patient were to specifically ask for ultrasound as a treatment, I would explain what the research states. If they still wanted to, maybe because of previous experience, I would continue with the ultrasound treatment. In the vast majority of cases, ultrasound is completely safe. If the patient shows improvement from ultrasound, placebo or not, it benefits the patient. The patient is the most important aspect of this argument, we cannot forget ...
