The s Night
The first thing I noticed about the Rift was that it looked like one of those sleep pods from sci fi
movies in the early 2000 s. The machine was sleek. A silver pod, with the outline of an opening
barely visible. Perfectly ordinary for such a device, but for some reason it sucked all the light out
of the room. The weight of what I was about to experience finally catching up to me. I will be able
to see, smell, and feel everything. Everything that happened in Elie Wiesels night. I will see, smell,
and feel the holocaustthrough the eyes of Wiesel. Alright, uh, Yavin. Nice name. I m Mr. Hiraku.
Are you ready? the teacher asked, looking down at his chart for my name.
Yes sir. I answered, a bit shakily. I had used VR before for video games, but never for something so
important.
Alright. I m going to read you off some side effects involved with this experience. While
participating in the Night VR experience software, you may encounter some nausea, disorientation,
and discomfort due to the connectors. After using the Night VR experience software, you may
encounter nightmares, thoughts of suicide, depression, and other symptoms of PTSD. Would you
like to continue with the use of this VR software?
I hadn t known there was going to be so many side effects. But then again, it s to be expected. To
experience something only explainable as horrific, even through VR, is bound to leave something
behind.
Noticing my hesitation, Mr. Hiraku added Yavin, these side effects are

The Genre Of Horror Films
First of all, genre is the method categorized a film based on similarities in the narrative elements.
There are a wide range of different types of film genres: detective, action, adventure, gangster or
crime, science fiction, drama, horror, romance, comedy, musical and so on. It is quite difficult to
identify a particular filmbecause a film might have a few of different genres. That is the reason
why sub genres exist. Sub genres can help us to more clarity in identify the genreof a film. For
example, a horror filmmight involve supernatural.thriller, mystery or others. Horror is a classical
genre that has now become far more popular with audiences than perhaps at any other time in its
history. This genre has been around since 1890s and it is one of the oldest genres from
Hollywood. The iconic theme across horror films is usually revolved around mirror, superhuman
killer, curse and so on. The ending will always like return to normalcy and victory over the
monstrous. I believe that this is the ending which most audiences wish to be. There are a few of
sub genres in horror films which are slasher flicks, supernatural and psychological and they are
widely adapted in hybrid films nowadays. Slasher flicks as known as massacre is a type of
horror film that usually involves murders killing the victims in a violent manner and usually with
a tool like knife, axe or others. For examples are serial killer and mass murder. For psychological

Marx s Views On Private Property
Introduction English philosopher John Locke and German philosopher Karl Marx seem
completely opposed in their views of private property. While Locke believes that private property
is a natural right, Marx believes that private property should be abolished. Throughout this paper,
Locke s and Marx s individual philosophies on private propertywill be presented and examined.
Ultimately, this paper seeks to show the similarities between these thinkers viewpoints on private
property and demonstrate that Marx s philosophies have some roots in Locke s. Moreover, this
paper will examine how these philosophies affected the course of social, economic, and
civilizational process.
Private Property and its Relation to Government and Society
Locke saw the ownership of property an important natural rights, as well as fundamental to a
good government and society. He believed that all citizens had a right to life, liberty, and
property , if they had the means to attain it (SOURCE). He discusses his theories of property in
the Second Treatise of Government. He said that God gave man the earth to hold in common.
However, once man adds labor to the earth it becomes their private property. When a man plows a
field, for example, it becomes his and so too do the benefits (or the fruits) of this land.
The main purpose of the government, for Locke, is to protect an individual s private property.
When a state of nature is in place, there is no way for an individual to ensure that their property

Department of labor, Bureau of labor Statistics states that a geoscientist analyses the Earth s
physical aspects like its composition, structure, and processes. Their responsibilities include
planning field studies, studying aerial photographs, directing laboratory tests, making geologic
maps, and arranging written scientific reports. Geoscientists use a range of tools to perform their
job, such as hammers and x rays. They will often oversee technicians and coordinate with other
scientists (What Geoscientists Do section).
What Level of Education and Special Training is Required?
For most entry level positions, Geoscientists need at least a bachelor s degree. Some, however,
begin their career with a master s degree. For most basic research and college teaching positions, a
Ph.D. is necessary. A degree in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, engineering, or computer
science is accepted if it includes geology coursework, but a degree in geoscience is favored by
employers. Geoscience programs include courses in mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology.
Employers prefer and seek applicants who have also gained field and laboratory experience (How

The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations...
The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations
This scene, in my opinion is the dramatic centre of Translations. The scene displays that George and
Maire have fallen in love as they return from the dance together; the pair find it hard to
communicate, and exhaust every method of communication before reciting place names to one
another. The common language of the place names increases the tension between George and
Maire until, finally, they kiss. The kiss is witnessed by Sarah who uses her new found talent of
speech to tell
Manus. The scene, in my view is very important as it is the catalyst for the disastrous events
which follow, it leads to the disappearance of George, the search of Baile Baeg by new English...

The scene subsequent to the love scene (Act 3 Scene 1) has a different premise and feeling than the
fairytale love scene; it is bleak and rushed as the audience are told that George is missing, and
Manus is packing up to leave implying some guilt and is evidently traumatized. Manus goes to the
extent of ignoring Sarah, which as she represents Ireland, makes a big impact; he is giving up. The
scene has a black mood, which contrasts with the hope the lovers shared in the previous scene.
The scene has significance as it gives a romantic side to the play whilst still representing the
recurrent themes. The use of place names as communication gives a magical, mythical bond
between George and
Maire, which draws the lovers together. Firstly, they gesture to one another, the most primitive form
of communication; an example of this:
(Indicating himself) George .
George is telling Maire his name, which is his identity and what describes him as a person. As the
pair recite their names to one another, it is as if they are allowing one another into their hearts, as a
gesture of love.
The pair also try to communicate in Latin, common words of one another s language and using the
elements, which increase the audience s suspense as the lovers desperately, try to get their
meanings across. George s constant sorry sorry? and Oh my God shows the desperation with which
he tries

Theories Of Civil Disobedience
According to Wikipedia Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws,
demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. Civil
disobedience is a symbolic or ritualistic violation of the law, rather than a rejection of the system
as a whole. I think it is an important aspect of democracy and a free society.
Civil disobedience can take many forms from individual protest that goes relatively unnoticed to
larger scale protests as in the case of Mohammed Ali refusing to participate in the Vietnam War or
get vaulted to that level without an intention for that level of attention and scrutiny as in the case of
Desmond Doss refusing to pick up a weapon during World War 2. Both had to do with the
participants moral convictions based on their religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was a conscientious objector. He was initially imprisoned and his protest was public and he
did not run from his punishment. The opposition movement grew around the country from a
few disparates to a full on movement that ended up also propelling forward the Civil Rights
movement. While Ali s protest was more religious based a large group of those protesting cited
the diversion of federal funds to a war and with the support of Martin Luther King, Jr. the focus
of protest also began to include an upset around a disproportionate amount of blacks being drafted
and sent to the front lines. In this case society as a whole was forever changed, and while Ali
wasn t the first protestor nor the last of prominence, his protest vaulted the opposition into the lime
light and ended up propelling forward progress in Civil

Working with the prisoners, it is clearly truly uplifting for everyone to hear general comments
regarding overcoming their personal struggles. It is a great outcome for them to experience
opportunities and to work for a second chance at everyday life. My eyes have opened to how
important expressing your feelings can be through art. Prisoners come to rely on art to help
maintain a peaceful mind and to forget the negatives in life, allowing others to see things through
their eyes. PrisonLife and Human Worth by Paul W. Keve (1974:15) states To the person who

Nai-Ni Chen and Taiwanese-American Modern Dance
NAI NI CHEN AND TAIWANESE AMERICAN MODERN DANCE
Taiwan and America have always had strong relations since the early 1900s. However, during the
Cold War, they became even closer allies. During this time, many famous American dancers such as
Alvin Ailey, JosГ© LimГіn and Paul Taylor visited Taiwan. They brought along the ideas of
American style democracy embedded in the art form of modern dance, which also expressed
individual freedom. In addition, the United States aid to Taiwan during the 1950s and 1960s helped
Taiwan create the booming economy it enjoys today. In the 1970s, the growth of economic changes
allowed for the numbers of professionals and intellectuals to grow. This caused the middle class to
expand, and the Taiwanese people became interested in their culture, religion, and art, and how it
was distinct from that of China. Modern dance and Western classical music in Taiwan reflected the
push for modernization in society. The United States became the top training destination for
young Taiwanese dancers. Especially in 1987, after martial law in Taiwan was lifted, many
dancers began setting up their own troupes. One of the most famous American trained Taiwanese
dancers would be Lin Hwai min, who later returned to Taiwan and in 1973 founded the world
acclaimed Cloud Gate Dance Theater of Taiwan. However, this paper will be focusing on a lesser
known Taiwanese American modern dancer: Nai Ni Chen. Chen is currently a successful modern

Dewey s Rational Problem Solving Process
When it comes to conflict in the workplace, it is not a question of if it will occur, but rather a
question of when. There is also a question of how well managers will deal with this conflict and if
it will become constructive or destructive (Hynes, 2010, p. 237). John Dewey recommends using a
6 stage process that reasonable individuals can use to solve a problem (Hynes, 2010, p. 311).
Dewey recommends first defining a problem, analyzing a problem and then brainstorming possible
answers to the problem (Hynes, 2010, p. 311). He then recommends identifying the parameters of
what must occur to eliminate a problem, choosing the best solution from identified options and then
implementing the chosen solution (Hynes, 2010, p. 311).
Dewey s Rational Problem Solving Process The conflict described in Case 10 1 is a classic case of
a non managerial employee being pulled in multiple directions by managerial employees.
Rankin, a non managerial employee in the Credit department, often helps Sims, the manager of
Accounting (Hynes, 2010, p. 238). However, sales have been increasing so Rankin has not been
able to help Sims as often as she previously had been because she has also needed to assist the
Sales department (Hynes, 2010, p. 238). As a result, Sims approached Martinez, the manager of
Sales, and told him that she needed Rankin s assistance more than he needed her help in assisting
the Sales department (Hynes, 2010, p. 238). Basically, a conflict over a resource ensued

The Power Of The Challenger Disaster Speech
The office of President of the United States has become one of the most powerful and influential
positions in the world. A president has the power to set a legislative agenda, to veto a law, and to
make crucial foreign policy decisions. While all these capabilities are important, the most
significant power of the presidency resides in his or her ability to respond to a national tragedy.
Specifically, the president must provide comfort to a demoralized nation, commemorate the fallen
Americans, and inspire hope. No president fulfilled these tasks better than President Ronald Reagan
during his Space Shuttle Challenger DisasterAddress to the nation. President Reagan comforted the
nation, memorialized the seven casualties, and culminated hope for the future of space exploration
all in a four and a half minute national address. President Reagan s address not only demonstrated
the most important task of the President of the United States, but it also became a template from
which future tragedy addresses would be given. President Reagan accomplished the first
component of this vital role by successfully consoling the nation for, in what he calls, a national
loss. The President stated, Today is a day for mourning and remembering. Nancy and I are pained
to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all the people
of our country. This is truly a national loss (Reagan). Reagan was able to paint himself as one of

The Three Branches Research Paper
The Three Branches Research Paper To start off I will be talking about the Legislative Branch.
And the definition of the Legislative branch is: the part of the United States government that
creates laws. Whenever you read about congress people in the Senate or House debating a law,
you re reading about the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates,
and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating. First is how the Legislative branch uses
the checks and balances and checks the other houses. The Legislative Branch can check the
executive branch by a couple ways: Override the presidential vetoes with a two thirds vote, may
remove president through impeachment, and the senate approving treaties. The legislative
branch can check the judicial branch by: removing judges through impeachment, creating lower
courts, and the senate approving the appointments of judges. Next is the Speaker of the House
and its role; his institutional role of presiding officer and administrative head of the House, the
role of leader of the majority party in the House, and the representative role of an elected
member of the House. The Speaker of the House is second in line to succeed the President, after
the Vice President. The Senate President Pro Tempore s job is; is similar to the Speaker of the
House but more limited. For example of the Pro Tempore s job is to act as in the President of the
Senate or Vice President when he/she is absent. Next is the Majority and

Considerations. In order to successfully design a matrix organization, though, a few key
considerations need to be planned for. First, informal communication channels need to be developed
and leadership needs to watch for any signs of organizational silos.
Effective communication among the dimensions of the matrix structure is essential for a successful
implementation. A great deal of this communication is informal in nature, leading to voluntary
coordination among employees. Informal communication relies on personal networks and
relationships built on trust. One barrier to informal communication is organizational silos. Leaders
must break down these silos whenever possible (Galbraith, 2010, p.6).
Next, it is important for cross departmental goal achievement that the rewards be aligned for all
areas. The goals of the different matrix dimensions must be aligned to work together. The more
dimensions that exist, the more likely it is that fragmentation will occur (Galbraith, 2010, p.6).
Lastly, since the unity of command is no longer in existence, i.e., there are essentially two bosses
(functional and product managers) there needs to be absolute clarity in the work priorities. When

Midterm Patient Quality And Safety Paper
Midterm Patient Quality and Safety Paper Over time the health care industry has become more
complex. Health care is rapidly evolving and continuing to complicate our delivery of care,
which in turn has the same effect on quality of care. This steady evolution and change results in
nursing shortages and an increase in the prevalence of errors being made. In hopes of preventing
these errors and creating safe and high quality patient care, with the focus on new and improved
ways of thinking, The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) initiative was developed.
The QSEN focuses on the following competencies: patient centered care, quality improvement,
safety, and teamwork and collaboration. Their initiatives work to prepare and develop the
knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are necessary to make improvements in the quality and safety
of health care systems (Qsen.org, 2014). Question One Patient Centered Care Patient centered care
refers to the view that patients and their family members are partners in developing a care plan.
This stems from the belief that the patient is in control and that the care provided is rooted in
respect that addresses the patient s personal needs and values (Barnsteiner Sherwood, 2012).
Creating a partnership with a patient that allows them to grasp the goals and methods of their plan
of care and includes them in the decision making process can prevent errors from occurring. This
gives the patient the opportunity to correct any

According To A Century Of Women Chapter 1 Summary
In twenty century, women become more independent in the society. According to A Century of
Women, Deborah Felder analyzes the history of women have their own rights through history.
The book talks about the suffrage and events in women history. The book divides each chapter
decades by decades basis, which gives clear information to readers to understand the events from
the history. I chose 1917 through 1920, because those are the time when women started to have
their right to vote. In 1917 to 1918, there was World War I, and the chapter talks how women
became important to the world. In 1919, the chapter tells about how the formation of organization
of women voters was formed. In 1920, the chapter shows how women finally have their rights to

Coin Operation And Us Involvement
COIN Operation and US Involvement in Afghanistan COL (R) Frank Hall CJ 4475 Term Paper By:
Alejandro Cespedes Northwestern State University 02 November 2014 COIN Operation and US
involvement in Afghanistan Abstract Counterinsurgency, well known as COIN, operations refers to
an activity where the armed forces in collaboration with the civilian populous try to defend the
legitimacy of existing government from internal insurgency (Paul, Clarke, 2011). According to
Field Manual 3 24, counterinsurgency is a deliberate and combined effort by both civilian and
military to resist and probably defeat in any attempt of taking power by the insurgents. In this case,
the effort may involve comprehensive war against the insurgents as well as attempts to solve the
major cause of such insurgency by addressing key issues of concern (Defense Science Board Task
Force on Defense Intelligence, 2011). By doing this, a counterinsurgency operation may yield
positive results for the local and international community. The main aim is to protect the legitimate
government from being over thrown and to strengthen its rule within the territory. Consequently,
innocent civilians also get an opportunity to help the COIN operation with necessary information
among other resources that aid in defeating the insurgents hence restoring normalcy. COIN
operations are not only done for the interest of the local community, but also the international
community (Steger, 2011). In this report, US

Political Impact On The Evolution Of Christianity
The evolution of Christianity has been a process that has taken thousands of years. Wars, laws, and
councils are all been results of this process. When one thinks of the evolution of Christianity,
politics typically do not come to mind. Surprisingly politics have had a large impact on the
evolution of Christianity. In some cases, the impact is so big, it determined the survival of
Christianity. Politics influenced Christian society when Pontius Pilate falsely accused Jesusof
treason, Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal in the Roman Empire, and the Council of
Chalcedon confirmed Jesus was God. One political event that influenced Christian society is
when Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of treason. Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of
treason because himself, and other leaders of the Roman Empire felt threatened by Jesus (
Pontius Pilate Biography 2014). These leaders felt threatened by Jesus because he preached to
follow and worship only the Christian God, and no others. This was very threatening to leaders
of the Roman Empire like Pontius Pilate because they worried Christians would not obey their
orders, and8 when they tried to reinforce them the Christians would revolt. Since Pontius Pilate
was a Roman Prefect he had the authority to order the execution of a criminal, so to end his fear
he falsely claimed that Jesus told him he was the King of the Jews ( Pontius Pilate Biography
2014). This results in Jesus being convicted of treason, so Pontius Pilate

Causes Of The Missouri Compromise
In 1820, the compromise that divided the country in half and caused the biggest conflicts in the
United States was born. This compromise was the Missouri Compromise which wanted everyone
happy, but at the same time wanted Missouri as a slave state so it also made Maine as a free state.
The Missouri Compromise wanted to make Missouri a slave state which caused the north to be
furious due to the equality being broken between the north and the south so the compromise also
granted Maine as a free state dividing the country in half, north and south, which led to large
conflicts.
The Missouri Compromise caused some of the biggest conflicts in United States history. One of the
biggest conflicts caused by the Missouri Compromise was the Civil War. The Missouri
Compromise was passed forty one years before the Civil War happened. It caused the disagreement
between the north, the anti slavery, and the south, the pro slavery in the United States on the issue of
slavery. The north did not like slavery and the south did. The Missouri Compromise was written
by Henry Clay and both people who promote slavery and people who are against slavery agreed
to it in Congress. The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 agreeing to Missouri to be a
slave state and Maine as a free state. It also banned slavery in the Louisiana Territory north from
the latitude line which was thirty six degrees and thirty minutes. The compromise stayed a law

Plato s Levels Of Reality
Final Essay: Plato s Levels of Reality 1.Introduction Plato, arguably one of the most famous
philosophers in history is known for his dialogues and theory of Forms. The theory of Forms
argues that ideas (non physical forms) are more real than tangible objects or what our senses
perceive. According to Plato, there is the visible realm and intelligible realm. Reality could be
divided into three different levels; the level of appearances, the real level, and the ideal level
which he explains through the analogy of the Divided Line in The Republic. By viewing reality
in this bifurcated way, it is still philosophically useful to an extent as it provides different
perspectives to worldly problems. It forces humans to critically evaluate their knowledge, along
with ethical and practical considerations and practices When adopting this view, it should be
done so with caution as there are still some flaws within this way of thinking. 2.Main Body An
extension of the Sun simile where Plato attempts to explain goodness and the nature of reality

Analysis Of Sophistication By Sherwood Anderson And...
Both Sophistication by Sherwood Anderson and Running out of Music by Constant Squires use
symbols, conflict and character development to represent the complexity of connection. The
corn field that George Willard views and the time that Nately gives Lucinda music symbolize the
fulfillment that results from being able to depend on others. George Willard takes Helen White
and wanders out into the countryside. Together and in silence, They went along a path past a
field of corn that had not yet been cut. The wind whispered among the dry corn blades
(Anderson 5). Similarly Lucinda walks back towards her house in silence until Nately says, ...so
I don t know if I can get to everything, but I ll try hard. Let s meet here same time two weeks
from today, and I ll give you what I ve got (Squires 16). In order to become tall, a stalk of corn
needs all the other corn in the field to survive. A single stalk of corn is unable to stand by itself.
In a similar manner Lucinda would not be able to grow and mature if she did not have Nately to
bring her music. Nately is like the other corn in field, supporting Lucinda and helping her
mature. If one stalk of corn tried to stand on its own, it would be blown over by the whispered
wind . The whispered wind is similar to Nately sharing music with Lucinda because Nately is not
supposed to see Lucinda, their meeting, two weeks from today , is like a whispered secret
between the two of them. As the whispered wind shares messages through the corn, Nately
shares music with Lucinda. She depends on him to meet her two weeks from today and give her
music. Lucinda depends on Nately in the same way that all the corn stalks in the field depend
on the other corn stalks to grow tall and mature. The corn in the field that George observes and
the set times where Nately gives Lucinda music represent the fulfillment that comes from being
able to rely on others. George s desire to disconnect from his past and Lucinda s desire to
connect to her past represent the struggles of remembrance. George grew up in Winesburg and he
still lives there now. George does not want to reside in Winesburg anymore, He was about to leave
Winesburg to go away to some city where he hoped to get work

Propaganda And Persuasion, Garth s. Jowett And Victoria O...
(U) Introduction (U) In the book Propaganda and Persuasion, Garth S. Jowett and Victoria O
Donnell provide a ten question framework for analyzing persuasive techniques. This paper analyzes
two political advertisements, Peace Little Girl (Daisy) from the 1964 U.S. presidential election and
Prouder, Stronger, Better (Morning in America) from the 1984 election, using Jowett and O
Donnell s Framework and other models.
(U) Peace Little Girl (Daisy) Campaign Advertisement
(U) During the 1964 election of Lyndon B. Johnson versus Barry Goldwater, the Peace Little Girl
(Daisy) commercial advocated for the audience to vote for Johnson. The commercial shows a
young girl in a field picking pedals off of a daisy. The girl is later killed by a nuclear bomb
explosion. The ideology and purpose of this propaganda campaign was to persuade people to vote
for Johnson. In this advertisement, Johnson stands for peace and stability. This advertisement
infers that a nuclear war is a reality if Johnson is not elected, and Goldwater becomes president.
This advertisement does not directly state that Goldwater could start a war, but alludes that his
extreme views could put the U.S. at risk. This advertisement s intent is also to portray Goldwater
as an extremist, diminishing his chance to build a moderate image to appeal to more voters. (U)
The context in which this propaganda occurs is an era with a prevailing mood of fear, unrest, and
uncertainty. Americans feared the threat

Corn Essay
Corn America
The demand for corn has greatly increased because of its many new found uses but mainly
because it has been discovered that corn can be use as an alternate energy source. This great
demand for corn has increased many area of farming and production of corn here and other
countries such as Mexico and South America. This great demand has lead to an increase in
farmers who are willing to cash in on these cash crops and try to earn a few quick dollars because
of the great demand for it. In 2007 Corn farmer saw record profits because famer where getting

This would create and elastic effect on the corn market because the huge demand for corn oil
will remain the same but with the discovery corn for energy it has made it a hot commodity and
very profitable amongst farmers therefore corn oil would take a back seat for now until other
resources can be used to produce energy. These farmers are going to slow down their
productions of corn for corn oil and increase the production of corn for energy because it is the
more profitable thing to do and its makes perfect business sense. Now the demand for the corn
oil remains the same, but the productions for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that
farmers and corn producers will need to raise the price of corn for corn products so they will be
able to stay on the market longer and have a longer shelf life until another year or harvest comes
around.

Dating Earth And A Theory Of Plate Tectonics
The article discusses Dating Earth and a theory of plate tectonics. In the beginning, the scientists
community was divided into two parts, where one part supported Christian believes about the
universal flood that was a proof of an existence of God and another group of scientists who rejected
theories of Catastrophism. The early geologist, В«catastrophistsВ», believed that В«catastrophic
events in the past determined the geologyof the Earth.В» In that time because of the lack of
evidence catastrophists were not taken seriously enough. An alternative theory was called
В«uniformitarianismВ» and a main idea is that the Earth is timeworn. According to the article,
there were three main theories which were doubted, such as a continental draft, the giant meteor
that killed the dinosaurs, and catastrophic flooding in the Channeled Scablands.... Show more

The theory explained how continents move and change their positions on the Earth. One of the
evidence was those rock formations and fossils from different continents were similar. Wegener
was not a professional geologist, but against any disbelieves he could prove that this theory of
Catastrophism is not a fairy tale. Nowadays a theory of В«plate tectonicsВ» became the leading
theory behind geology of modern time. The article gave a quote of Naomi Oreskes, who wrote
В«The theory of continental drift did not violate the laws of nature...but in Schuchert s view it did
challenge and seriously threaten the uniformitarian principle that was at the root of his science.В»

Essay about The Cost Of Buying A Used Car
The Cost Of Buying A Used Car
This project has been put together to show the cost of buying and using a used car for one year.
To show the different costs for cars I have made a chart on a later page. First, though, It probably
would be good to tell a little about used cars.
Used cars are, for some, a good investment. The used car is good for cheap transportation, and fun.
Used cars also have many different uses besides just driving around. Some people buy used cars
so they can restore them, while other people buy used cars for their children to drive. While still
others get used cars for spare parts. The point is that used cars are good for many different people,

Do they think that it is in good driving condition? Do you think it is in good driving condition?
3. Look at the car s paint job. Is it what you would want? are there any rust spots, dings, or
scratches?
4. Finally one must ask themself if the total car is what they wanted.
If there is any doubt then they might want to rethink whether they really want this car.
The chart below is a comparison of five cars each with a different set of options, price, and look.
Make Price Options 1986 Ford Taurus Wagon
$ 3,500 AC, AM/FM Cassette, PS 1969 VW Bug $ 2,000
Convertible, AM/FM Stereo, Dual Exhaust 1965 Pontiac GTO $ 8,500
Convertible, 4speed, PB,PS,New Top 1979 Mercedes benz450slc $11,000 Garaged,
51,000 mi. sunroof, AC, V8 1975 Ford Maverick $700 New Valve job,
3 speed Manual, Steel Wheels
Am Fm Cassette
As one can see from the chart above you cannot always judge a car from it s price. Now it is time
to calculate the price of using the car for one year using set values for gas and insurance.
The average gas consumption for these cars should be about three tanks of gas every two weeks. At
52 weeks a year we get 78 tanks of gas a year. Then we need to multiply by the amount it costs for a
tank of gas. In our case that gas is about $13.00 a tank. That comes to about $1014 dollars a year on
gas.

Literary Devices In The God Of Small Things
Arundhati Roy s The God of Small Things, a twisting tale seemingly centered on a case of family
tragedy, unravels to form a critique on rigid social structures. This renders Iser s quote significant
to a huge extent, as proven by the novel s fragmented narrative. By building the narrative around a
crucial lack of information, readers are pushed to engage thoroughly with the text, as they have to
piece together the jigsaw pieces that make up the story, so as to make complete sense of it,
henceforth enabling a better understanding of the explicit when the implicit comes to light. In
doing so, the meaning of the text comes alive in the readers imagination (Bennett 1682) through the
readers realization that the seemingly irrelevant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

timelessness of the destruction that can be brought about by these Love Laws . Along with the

with Untouchable Velutha which had led to the massive literal and figurative destruction of
many lives, Roy argues how both obedience and disobedience of these laws will lead to
destruction as human s passion can never be contained by them. As such, by inviting the reader to
piece together the puzzle pieces of this critique, the boundaries between the writer and reader is
blurred as the reader writes the text as well. Hence, the reader becomes more receptive to the
sensitive, painful questions that Roy pushes, not only about India s caste prejudice but social

Different Reactions of a Modern and Elizabethan Audience...
In the Elizabethan era, many of the issues Shakespeare included in his plays were socially
accepted by the audience. In contrast these issues are in large not accepted in today s modern
society.
The first decisive opposing reactions by a modern and Elizabethan audience to a Shakespeare play
such as Othello, is the status of women in this period. Othello among other plays of its era,
introduce the idea of women as possessions.
quot;O heaven! How got she out? quot;
Here Brabantio is talking about his daughter Desdemona as if she is locked up in his prison. Later
examples of this also include Desdemona herself admitting in sorts to being a possession:
quot; How to respect you; you are the lord of all my duty...
But here s my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once more as a modern audience we find it hard to appreciate the impact a woman speaking up
for herself in this situation may have had on an Elizabethan audience. This is because in our
society women speak up fro themselves everyday and this is taken for granted.
The fact that Desdemona is given a voice is due to the controversial character of Othello. Because
he says quot;let her speak quot;, he is showing not only respect and trust for Desdemona, but also
great compassion.
This understanding maybe comes from the fact that he was once a slave himself, and has sympathy
for women because of his past experiences.
Othello is an important character in showing other divided reactions by an Elizabethan and modern
audience.
In this era slavery was widely accepted, as of course is not the case today.
Men such as Othello were extremely honoured to have a status such as a general, and again like
the fact that Desdemona has a say, a black man being a general in the army would have been a
highly unlikely event.
Still this event would have had an exciting impact on am Elizabethan audience as Shakespeare is
venturing out of the ordinary and into the unknown
This also gives a modern audience a good insight into how Shakespeare was an exceptional scripter

the audience can sit on while watching the bands. Some of the performances are outside, while
some of them are in tents to protect the audience from the wind and cold. There are also other
booths, like shops and such. My dad and I went in one where they use a green screen to make it

There are many things that students can enjoy there. There s many kinds of foods, like escargot,
chocolate croissants, and french onion soup. As mentioned earlier, there is also a fancy castle hotel
which people can stay in. You can visit stores there which sell all different kinds of products.

Causes Of The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl began in the 1930s and lasted a decade. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty
Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The
lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust
Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and
part of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds
took the dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy?
How did it contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression?
How did the people of the United Statespersevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go
through another devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start
of the Dust Bowlwere farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase
profit and minimalize spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on.
This made the demand for wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their
crops. Our nation was making money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn
every foot of land into farming land. ( United States History. 1) In an effort to help boost the
economy, the government provided cheap federal farm policies which allowed many people to
take on the job of farming. In order to maximize profit,

My Family Is Not The Typical Caucasian Family Dynamic
As with any family, ours is not the typical Caucasian family dynamic. We began with my

our first son. Three months later my spouse would suffer a great tragedy and was no longer able

Some similarities that our family has had with our African American ethnic families is that of the

our home when they were struggling to find work. Our house guests have ranged from: his
brother, my brother, nephews, and even a great nephew. Some of them have lived with us a few

History of the Funeral Rule Essay
HISTORY OF THE FUNERAL RULE
The roots of the Funeral Rule are found in two books that were published in the late 60 s Unsafe
At Any Speed by Ralph Nader and The American Way of Death by Jessica Midford. In the late
1960 s, the FTC was a paper tiger. Ralph Nader, who began the consumer protection movement in
this country with the publication of Unsafe At Any Speed, was a sharp critic of the Federal Trade
Commission for its lack of consumer protection. Specifically, the FTC was criticized because it
relied too heavily on consumer complaints and brought enforcement actions only on a case by case
basis. The consumer protection movement wanted the FTC to proceed against entire industries
rather than individual businesses. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In March, 1976, the FTC received over 9,000 comments on the proposed rulemaking. The Final
Notice of Rulemaking was published in 1976 and identified 30 disputed areas of fact. These were
the focus of six public hearings that were held from April through August of 1976. There were 315
witnesses, many of which provided anecdotal evidence. There was very little empirical data such
as surveys and valid economic studies. Following the hearings, the presiding officer issued his
report. Additional comments were submitted by the public and the Final Staff Report was delivered
to the Commission in 1979. The FTC tentatively approved the Funeral Rule in March, 1979. The
funeral industry went to Congress and was able to obtain some relief in the form of the FTC
Improvements Act of 1980. That statute imposed new procedural safeguards in the FTC
rulemaking process. It also required the FTC to republish the Funeral Rule and take additional
comments using the new procedural safeguards. In 1981, the FTC republished the Rule and began
a new proceeding. That led to the promulgation of the Funeral Rule in 1982. After the NFDA
unsuccessfully appealed the Rule to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Rule took effect on
January 1, 1984. The Funeral Rule which was finally adopted was less onerous then the one
originally proposed. NFDA was successful in having certain provisions deleted from the original
Rule such as a requirement to have written

John Adams And George Washington Essay
John Adams and George Washington were two instrumental leaders during the American
Revolution. Both men were quintessential to the success of the revolution in their own way. John
Adams pushed the revolutionary agenda and George Washington lead the continental army. The
methods for which they led our nation to success varied due to their differing leadership styles. In
consequence, George Washingtonhas gone down in History as a larger than life hero whereas John
Adams has nearly been forgotten. Though both Adams and Washington rose to become influential
figures during the revolution, their origins differed. Adams was born into a middle class farming
family in Massachusetts. His father was a farmer/deacon who decided John should go to university
and learns a noble trade. John received a formal education from Harvard and went into the
admirable profession of the Law. On the other hand, George Washington, although born into a
respected aristocratic Virginian family, did not receive a proper formal education because his father
died before Washington was of age to study in England, as was planned. Nonetheless Washington
gained knowledge from experience and observing those around him. The personal connections
Washington had resulted in many job opportunities for him. Though his education was cut short by
his father s death, he still had many important mentors such as Colonial Fairfax who granted

Hymns In America
I needed a more detailed account of the history and practices of the Swedish American Church.
What were the interactions like between the churches in America and the churches in Sweden?
How did different denominations function and interact? I choose to include this article because the
author answers these questions in the specific context of hymns. Hymns embody the experiential
nature of religion as songs of adoration and worship. The author of the article, George Ericson,
begins by detailing the evolution of hymns through various religious movements in Swedish
history. He focuses on the transatlantic transfer of hymns between America and Sweden. This
source reiterates the importance of Martin Luther and the Reformation. Olavus Petri published the
first Hymnal in the common language as a result of the Reformation (Ericson 103). Hymns shaped
the experience of religion for the common person. Different waves of religious revival inspired new
hymns to be written. The pietism movement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baptist, Methodist, and Pentecostal hymns were translated from English to Swedish during the
19th century. Often these songs would be sung to traditional folk tunes (despite some criticism).
Some immigrants would even return to Sweden and share lively tunes and inspiring lyrics on
preaching tours (Ericson 106). Unlike other countries, there was not an official connection between
the state church in Sweden and similar congregations in America. The adoption of new hymns
demonstrates the free churchly attitude apparent in the American Lutheran church. Free church
refers to a movement in Sweden in opposition to the state church which resulted in immigration.
From my other sources, I determined that religious motivations did not dominate Swedish
immigration. However, the love for certain hymns demonstrates a trend for Swedish believers to
distance their religious practice from the official church of

Disadvantages Of Bottled Water
If a person conducting a social experiment were to pass out two label less water bottles, one filled
with tap water and one filled with bottled water, the number of people that cannot tell which bottle
contains tap water might be surprising. The difference between tap and bottled water can vary
depending on brand, location, and other factors, but there will always be those that stand out. Tap
water has many advantages over bottled waterin frequent use. While bottled water might have its
own convenience, tap water costs less, is tested more frequently and publicly, and there is safety in
tap water despite the stigma stating otherwise. Tap water cost less due to not having to spend
money on the plastic needed to create the bottlesof bottled water. The cheapest bottled water found
in the local area could be a pack of twelve for $3.00, meaning the price per bottlewould be around
0.25 Вў; this amount is much greater than the average cost of tap water. Cost per bottle is not the
only cost of bottled water, there are also costs of transportation and production of the bottles
necessary to consider. According to Standage, This year, Americans will spend around $9.8
billion on bottled water (1). The amount spent in America alone on bottled water, if reallocated
elsewhere could provide large changes in places of need. Finance is not the only cost that bottled
water could impact however. The plastic in the bottles is made from petrol made from an oil base.

carnage of the battle and gives us insight of the feelings and emotions of the Japanese soldiers who
fought in the siege and what it was like to be there. It provides a unique perspective that is not
commonly found in most sources. Finally, Sakurai s account differed greatly from public opinion,
and the common narrative of the battle, by choosing to portray the event in a much different way
and showing that not everyone agreed with public opinion at the

Examples Of Imagination In Kubla Khan
According to Eagleton imaginative is what the mind can create using its originality and
exceptionality, it is something that has not occurred in real life, or cannot be claimed as something
factually true. It is conceived in the minds of individuals, but not projected into real life. He uses
terms like did not exist literary untrue , inventive to further state his opinion on what imaginative is.
Imaginative for the Romantics had three main functions; the capability to transcend reality, to
recreate memory, and to notify the creation of art.
Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a bright example of the transforming power imagination has. The poet s
usage of diction and allegories transform this poem into a symbol for imagination. It is said that
it was written after Coleridge s encounter with the sublime while still being under the effect of
opium, and when he went to record it, he was disrupted by a visitor and the remaining of the
poem was lost even to him. In the poem he shows how possibilities are limitless as long as our
imaginations are; Coleridge uses caverns measureless to man as a ... Show more content on

Again this piece by Coleridge is a demonstration of this principle. The lyrics flow up to a moment
of clear recollection of the scenery, leaving the poem incomplete so that the faculty of imagination
would not be diluted. Coleridge in the 3 stanzas which he relived captured the sublime, and the
striking feature of this poem is in its deconstructed syntax which eagerly captured the scenery. But
oh! That deep romantic chasm which slanted/ Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! / A
savage place! . This is a scene that Coleridge experienced in a dream, and its recollection in reality
must express the resplendence of what he felt. We can see that grammatical requirements were not
fulfilled since they would merely limit the true

Oppressive and Repressive Social Institutions, Value...
Oppressive and repressive social institutions, value systems and codes of behaviour are central to
the horror, science fiction and fantasy genres. Focusing on 1 2 examples of your choice, consider
how these genres mediate the problem of the social. How significant is ideology, as well as genre
theory, to your case study?
This essay will explore the ways in which the horror genre perpetuates repressive and oppressive
social institutions, value systems and codes of behaviour surrounding the homosexual subject. It
will be suggested that the generic conventions of horror films sustain repressive understandings of
the normative order which position the homosexual subject as a threatening other . This essay will
offer the opinion that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic
conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo
establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster
(1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the
conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or
destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force
ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our
minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was
successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the
restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15).
The clear coding of threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality
can be considered an important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body
horror and postmodern horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred
boundary between the self and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. In the post
modern

Differences Between Greeks And The Mediterranean Sea
Greeks have been in America since about 1528. Greece is located at the southeast end of Europe on
the Mediterranean Sea. The first recorded Greeks colonized in Florida, which is where about 77
thousand Greeks still inhabit today as well as a majority of the East Coast. Greeks believe in a
simple four step process to being healthy and if these four basic kinds of things are in order they
will be healthy but if they are out of order, illness will occur. I chose to do my research on Greeks
because I had heard of the popular Mediterranean Diet talked about for years. I have also seen
movies about Greek culture, like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but did not know all the traditions of
the Greeks.
The four step process of health maintenance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example Epione is the goddess of the soothing of pain and Iaso is the goddess of
recuperation from illness. As far as my research shows, most modern Greeks go to physicians to
restore their health. There are also Greeks who use a new alternative form of medicine used
today called Hellenistic pagans, these are people who pray to the Greek Gods to help them heal.
They also use dietary management using foods that are easy to digest like soups to detoxify
their bodies. Another way to restore health is to correct the four step process if you are doing
something wrong. To protect their health from the evil eye, Greeks wear garlic, amulets, or make
a cross out of ash behind a child s ear. The evil eye curse is when someone has envy for another,
and this superstition has been around for many years and symptoms include headache, nausea and
confusion. Greeks also knock wood to guard against misfortune.
Many cultures also have rites, which are ceremonial acts. Birth rites in the Greek culture are very
important, because family is important, so birth is celebrated. Gifts are given to pregnant women
like little amulets to guard against evil eye or gold coins. Families also often honor traditional
names in the family by bestowing the name on the baby. For the marriage rites the ceremony is
spoken in Greek or English, but there are traditional parts that

Assess each of the above for a few selected years over the last decade: Have there been any
important changes in the level of trade, types of trade, or trade partners? Any ideas for the reason
for the changes? (When you select years, start with the most recently available then go back 10
years, and then pick at least one year in the middle. If there was some important economic event in
your country s recent history, you might choose the year after that too to see if there were any
important changes.)
From 1990 to late 2008, Japan s export increased from 2698.92 billion Japanese Yen, to 7681.69

trading partners did not change much. Imports went down, but trading partners stayed the same

The Development Of Catholic Worship
The development of Catholic understanding is expressed through Cristian doctrines and features of
Catholic communal life. Catholic Christianity raises and attempts to answer questions of ultimate
meaning and value through rule of faith and Catholic worship. Sacraments are a part of Catholic
worship as they are involved in the liturgical life within church. The rule of faith is a community s
measurement of someone s faith. The kerygma is six discourses that are referred to as proclamation
and summarize Christian faith (125). Some of the ultimate meaning and value questions include:
what is the ultimate meaning of Jesus Christ; what is the ultimate meaning behind baptism; and how
is the liturgy a part of Catholic value these questions will be answered through information provided
in Cunningham s text.
Firstly, belief in Jesus Christ is a major part of Catholicism. Throughout time, there s been much
discussion about whether or not Jesus was a human. There was much suspicion about the bread
and wine actually being Christ s body and blood. In chapter 5, Catholic Worship, it was
explained that Catholics believe that the coming of Jesus Christ, who was the Word of flesh was
a great sacrament (101). Christ was considered to being a great sacrament because he was the
visible sign of God s presence which symbolized God s love for Earth. Christ should be considered
God made man. The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament that is related to the center of Christian life. The
Eucharist is

  • 2. The s Night The first thing I noticed about the Rift was that it looked like one of those sleep pods from sci fi movies in the early 2000 s. The machine was sleek. A silver pod, with the outline of an opening barely visible. Perfectly ordinary for such a device, but for some reason it sucked all the light out of the room. The weight of what I was about to experience finally catching up to me. I will be able to see, smell, and feel everything. Everything that happened in Elie Wiesels night. I will see, smell, and feel the holocaustthrough the eyes of Wiesel. Alright, uh, Yavin. Nice name. I m Mr. Hiraku. Are you ready? the teacher asked, looking down at his chart for my name. Yes sir. I answered, a bit shakily. I had used VR before for video games, but never for something so important. Alright. I m going to read you off some side effects involved with this experience. While participating in the Night VR experience software, you may encounter some nausea, disorientation, and discomfort due to the connectors. After using the Night VR experience software, you may encounter nightmares, thoughts of suicide, depression, and other symptoms of PTSD. Would you like to continue with the use of this VR software? I hadn t known there was going to be so many side effects. But then again, it s to be expected. To experience something only explainable as horrific, even through VR, is bound to leave something behind. Noticing my hesitation, Mr. Hiraku added Yavin, these side effects are ... • 3. The Genre Of Horror Films First of all, genre is the method categorized a film based on similarities in the narrative elements. There are a wide range of different types of film genres: detective, action, adventure, gangster or crime, science fiction, drama, horror, romance, comedy, musical and so on. It is quite difficult to identify a particular filmbecause a film might have a few of different genres. That is the reason why sub genres exist. Sub genres can help us to more clarity in identify the genreof a film. For example, a horror filmmight involve supernatural.thriller, mystery or others. Horror is a classical genre that has now become far more popular with audiences than perhaps at any other time in its history. This genre has been around since 1890s and it is one of the oldest genres from Hollywood. The iconic theme across horror films is usually revolved around mirror, superhuman killer, curse and so on. The ending will always like return to normalcy and victory over the monstrous. I believe that this is the ending which most audiences wish to be. There are a few of sub genres in horror films which are slasher flicks, supernatural and psychological and they are widely adapted in hybrid films nowadays. Slasher flicks as known as massacre is a type of horror film that usually involves murders killing the victims in a violent manner and usually with a tool like knife, axe or others. • 4. Marx s Views On Private Property Introduction English philosopher John Locke and German philosopher Karl Marx seem completely opposed in their views of private property. While Locke believes that private property is a natural right, Marx believes that private property should be abolished. Throughout this paper, Locke s and Marx s individual philosophies on private propertywill be presented and examined. Ultimately, this paper seeks to show the similarities between these thinkers viewpoints on private property and demonstrate that Marx s philosophies have some roots in Locke s. Moreover, this paper will examine how these philosophies affected the course of social, economic, and civilizational process. Private Property and its Relation to Government and Society Locke saw the ownership of property an important natural rights, as well as fundamental to a good government and society. He believed that all citizens had a right to life, liberty, and property , if they had the means to attain it (SOURCE). He discusses his theories of property in the Second Treatise of Government. He said that God gave man the earth to hold in common. However, once man adds labor to the earth it becomes their private property. When a man plows a field, for example, it becomes his and so too do the benefits (or the fruits) of this land. The main purpose of the government, for Locke, is to protect an individual s private property. When a state of nature is in place, there is no way for an individual to ensure that their property ... • 6. The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations... The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations This scene, in my opinion is the dramatic centre of Translations. The scene displays that George and Maire have fallen in love as they return from the dance together; the pair find it hard to communicate, and exhaust every method of communication before reciting place names to one another. The common language of the place names increases the tension between George and Maire until, finally, they kiss. The kiss is witnessed by Sarah who uses her new found talent of speech to tell Manus. The scene, in my view is very important as it is the catalyst for the disastrous events which follow, it leads to the disappearance of George, the search of Baile Baeg by new English... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scene subsequent to the love scene (Act 3 Scene 1) has a different premise and feeling than the fairytale love scene; it is bleak and rushed as the audience are told that George is missing, and Manus is packing up to leave implying some guilt and is evidently traumatized. Manus goes to the extent of ignoring Sarah, which as she represents Ireland, makes a big impact; he is giving up. The scene has a black mood, which contrasts with the hope the lovers shared in the previous scene. The scene has significance as it gives a romantic side to the play whilst still representing the recurrent themes. The use of place names as communication gives a magical, mythical bond between George and Maire, which draws the lovers together. Firstly, they gesture to one another, the most primitive form of communication; an example of this: (Indicating himself) George . George is telling Maire his name, which is his identity and what describes him as a person. As the pair recite their names to one another, it is as if they are allowing one another into their hearts, as a gesture of love. The pair also try to communicate in Latin, common words of one another s language and using the elements, which increase the audience s suspense as the lovers desperately, try to get their meanings across. • 7. Theories Of Civil Disobedience According to Wikipedia Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws, demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. Civil disobedience is a symbolic or ritualistic violation of the law, rather than a rejection of the system as a whole. I think it is an important aspect of democracy and a free society. Civil disobedience can take many forms from individual protest that goes relatively unnoticed to larger scale protests as in the case of Mohammed Ali refusing to participate in the Vietnam War or get vaulted to that level without an intention for that level of attention and scrutiny as in the case of Desmond Doss refusing to pick up a weapon during World War 2. While Ali s protest was more religious based a large group of those protesting cited the diversion of federal funds to a war and with the support of Martin Luther King, Jr. the focus of protest also began to include an upset around a disproportionate amount of blacks being drafted and sent to the front lines. In this case society as a whole was forever changed, and while Ali wasn t the first protestor nor the last of prominence, his protest vaulted the opposition into the lime light and ended up propelling forward progress in Civil ... • 9. Nai-Ni Chen and Taiwanese-American Modern Dance NAI NI CHEN AND TAIWANESE AMERICAN MODERN DANCE Taiwan and America have always had strong relations since the early 1900s. However, during the Cold War, they became even closer allies. During this time, many famous American dancers such as Alvin Ailey, JosГ© LimГіn and Paul Taylor visited Taiwan. They brought along the ideas of American style democracy embedded in the art form of modern dance, which also expressed individual freedom. In addition, the United States aid to Taiwan during the 1950s and 1960s helped Taiwan create the booming economy it enjoys today. In the 1970s, the growth of economic changes allowed for the numbers of professionals and intellectuals to grow. This caused the middle class to expand, and the Taiwanese people became interested in their culture, religion, and art, and how it was distinct from that of China. Modern dance and Western classical music in Taiwan reflected the push for modernization in society. The United States became the top training destination for young Taiwanese dancers. Especially in 1987, after martial law in Taiwan was lifted, many dancers began setting up their own troupes. One of the most famous American trained Taiwanese dancers would be Lin Hwai min, who later returned to Taiwan and in 1973 founded the world acclaimed Cloud Gate Dance Theater of Taiwan. • 11. Dewey s Rational Problem Solving Process When it comes to conflict in the workplace, it is not a question of if it will occur, but rather a question of when. There is also a question of how well managers will deal with this conflict and if it will become constructive or destructive (Hynes, 2010, p. 237). John Dewey recommends using a 6 stage process that reasonable individuals can use to solve a problem (Hynes, 2010, p. 311). Dewey recommends first defining a problem, analyzing a problem and then brainstorming possible answers to the problem (Hynes, 2010, p. 311). He then recommends identifying the parameters of what must occur to eliminate a problem, choosing the best solution from identified options and then implementing the chosen solution (Hynes, 2010, p. 311). Dewey s Rational Problem Solving Process The conflict described in Case 10 1 is a classic case of a non managerial employee being pulled in multiple directions by managerial employees. Rankin, a non managerial employee in the Credit department, often helps Sims, the manager of Accounting (Hynes, 2010, p. 238). However, sales have been increasing so Rankin has not been able to help Sims as often as she previously had been because she has also needed to assist the Sales department (Hynes, 2010, p. 238). As a result, Sims approached Martinez, the manager of Sales, and told him that she needed Rankin s assistance more than he needed her help in assisting the Sales department (Hynes, 2010, p. 238). • 12. The Power Of The Challenger Disaster Speech The office of President of the United States has become one of the most powerful and influential positions in the world. A president has the power to set a legislative agenda, to veto a law, and to make crucial foreign policy decisions. While all these capabilities are important, the most significant power of the presidency resides in his or her ability to respond to a national tragedy. Specifically, the president must provide comfort to a demoralized nation, commemorate the fallen Americans, and inspire hope. No president fulfilled these tasks better than President Ronald Reagan during his Space Shuttle Challenger DisasterAddress to the nation. President Reagan comforted the nation, memorialized the seven casualties, and culminated hope for the future of space exploration all in a four and a half minute national address. President Reagan s address not only demonstrated the most important task of the President of the United States, but it also became a template from which future tragedy addresses would be given. President Reagan accomplished the first component of this vital role by successfully consoling the nation for, in what he calls, a national loss. The President stated, Today is a day for mourning and remembering. Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all the people of our country. This is truly a national loss (Reagan). Reagan was able to paint himself as one of the many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Three Branches Research Paper The Three Branches Research Paper To start off I will be talking about the Legislative Branch. And the definition of the Legislative branch is: the part of the United States government that creates laws. Whenever you read about congress people in the Senate or House debating a law, you re reading about the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating. First is how the Legislative branch uses the checks and balances and checks the other houses. The Legislative Branch can check the executive branch by a couple ways: Override the presidential vetoes with a two thirds vote, may remove president through impeachment, and the senate approving treaties. The legislative branch can check the judicial branch by: removing judges through impeachment, creating lower courts, and the senate approving the appointments of judges. Next is the Speaker of the House and its role; his institutional role of presiding officer and administrative head of the House, the role of leader of the majority party in the House, and the representative role of an elected member of the House. The Speaker of the House is second in line to succeed the President, after the Vice President. The Senate President Pro Tempore s job is; is similar to the Speaker of the House but more limited. For example of the Pro Tempore s job is to act as in the President of the Senate or Vice President when he/she is absent. Next is the Majority and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to successfully design a matrix organization, though, a few key considerations need to be planned for. First, informal communication channels need to be developed and leadership needs to watch for any signs of organizational silos. Effective communication among the dimensions of the matrix structure is essential for a successful implementation. A great deal of this communication is informal in nature, leading to voluntary coordination among employees. Informal communication relies on personal networks and relationships built on trust. One barrier to informal communication is organizational silos. Leaders must break down these silos whenever possible (Galbraith, 2010, p.6). Next, it is important for cross departmental goal achievement that the rewards be aligned for all areas. The goals of the different matrix dimensions must be aligned to work together. The more dimensions that exist, the more likely it is that fragmentation will occur (Galbraith, 2010, p.6). Lastly, since the unity of command is no longer in existence, i.e., there are essentially two bosses (functional and product managers) there needs to be absolute clarity in the work priorities. Health care is rapidly evolving and continuing to complicate our delivery of care, which in turn has the same effect on quality of care. This steady evolution and change results in nursing shortages and an increase in the prevalence of errors being made. In hopes of preventing these errors and creating safe and high quality patient care, with the focus on new and improved ways of thinking, The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) initiative was developed. The QSEN focuses on the following competencies: patient centered care, quality improvement, safety, and teamwork and collaboration. Their initiatives work to prepare and develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are necessary to make improvements in the quality and safety of health care systems (Qsen.org, 2014). Question One Patient Centered Care Patient centered care refers to the view that patients and their family members are partners in developing a care plan. This stems from the belief that the patient is in control and that the care provided is rooted in respect that addresses the patient s personal needs and values (Barnsteiner Sherwood, 2012). Creating a partnership with a patient that allows them to grasp the goals and methods of their plan of care and includes them in the decision making process can prevent errors from occurring. Coin Operation And Us Involvement COIN Operation and US Involvement in Afghanistan COL (R) Frank Hall CJ 4475 Term Paper By: Alejandro Cespedes Northwestern State University 02 November 2014 COIN Operation and US involvement in Afghanistan Abstract Counterinsurgency, well known as COIN, operations refers to an activity where the armed forces in collaboration with the civilian populous try to defend the legitimacy of existing government from internal insurgency (Paul, Clarke, 2011). According to Field Manual 3 24, counterinsurgency is a deliberate and combined effort by both civilian and military to resist and probably defeat in any attempt of taking power by the insurgents. In this case, the effort may involve comprehensive war against the insurgents as well as attempts to solve the major cause of such insurgency by addressing key issues of concern (Defense Science Board Task Force on Defense Intelligence, 2011). By doing this, a counterinsurgency operation may yield positive results for the local and international community. The main aim is to protect the legitimate government from being over thrown and to strengthen its rule within the territory. Consequently, innocent civilians also get an opportunity to help the COIN operation with necessary information among other resources that aid in defeating the insurgents hence restoring normalcy. • 20. Political Impact On The Evolution Of Christianity The evolution of Christianity has been a process that has taken thousands of years. Wars, laws, and councils are all been results of this process. When one thinks of the evolution of Christianity, politics typically do not come to mind. Surprisingly politics have had a large impact on the evolution of Christianity. In some cases, the impact is so big, it determined the survival of Christianity. Politics influenced Christian society when Pontius Pilate falsely accused Jesusof treason, Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal in the Roman Empire, and the Council of Chalcedon confirmed Jesus was God. One political event that influenced Christian society is when Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of treason. Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of treason because himself, and other leaders of the Roman Empire felt threatened by Jesus ( Pontius Pilate Biography 2014). These leaders felt threatened by Jesus because he preached to follow and worship only the Christian God, and no others. This was very threatening to leaders of the Roman Empire like Pontius Pilate because they worried Christians would not obey their orders, and8 when they tried to reinforce them the Christians would revolt. Since Pontius Pilate was a Roman Prefect he had the authority to order the execution of a criminal, so to end his fear he falsely claimed that Jesus told him he was the King of the Jews ( Pontius Pilate Biography 2014). • 23. Plato s Levels Of Reality Final Essay: Plato s Levels of Reality 1.Introduction Plato, arguably one of the most famous philosophers in history is known for his dialogues and theory of Forms. The theory of Forms argues that ideas (non physical forms) are more real than tangible objects or what our senses perceive. According to Plato, there is the visible realm and intelligible realm. Reality could be divided into three different levels; the level of appearances, the real level, and the ideal level which he explains through the analogy of the Divided Line in The Republic. By viewing reality in this bifurcated way, it is still philosophically useful to an extent as it provides different perspectives to worldly problems. It forces humans to critically evaluate their knowledge, along with ethical and practical considerations and practices When adopting this view, it should be done so with caution as there are still some flaws within this way of thinking. 2.Main Body An extension of the Sun simile where Plato attempts to explain goodness and the nature of reality and knowledge, the Divided Line extrapolates on the relationship between the two realities and their corresponding knowledge. The line is divided into two unequal parts the smaller part would be the Visible Realm while the larger part would be the Intelligible realm . The two parts are then divided into two unequal parts again of the same ratio the smaller part of the Visible realm is labelled Shadows and Images while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Analysis Of Sophistication By Sherwood Anderson And... Both Sophistication by Sherwood Anderson and Running out of Music by Constant Squires use symbols, conflict and character development to represent the complexity of connection. The corn field that George Willard views and the time that Nately gives Lucinda music symbolize the fulfillment that results from being able to depend on others. George Willard takes Helen White and wanders out into the countryside. Together and in silence, They went along a path past a field of corn that had not yet been cut. The wind whispered among the dry corn blades (Anderson 5). Similarly Lucinda walks back towards her house in silence until Nately says, ...so I don t know if I can get to everything, but I ll try hard. Let s meet here same time two weeks from today, and I ll give you what I ve got (Squires 16). In order to become tall, a stalk of corn needs all the other corn in the field to survive. A single stalk of corn is unable to stand by itself. In a similar manner Lucinda would not be able to grow and mature if she did not have Nately to bring her music. Nately is like the other corn in field, supporting Lucinda and helping her mature. If one stalk of corn tried to stand on its own, it would be blown over by the whispered wind . The whispered wind is similar to Nately sharing music with Lucinda because Nately is not supposed to see Lucinda, their meeting, two weeks from today , is like a whispered secret between the two of them. As the whispered wind shares messages through the corn, Nately shares music with Lucinda. She depends on him to meet her two weeks from today and give her music. Lucinda depends on Nately in the same way that all the corn stalks in the field depend on the other corn stalks to grow tall and mature. The corn in the field that George observes and the set times where Nately gives Lucinda music represent the fulfillment that comes from being able to rely on others. George s desire to disconnect from his past and Lucinda s desire to connect to her past represent the struggles of remembrance. George grew up in Winesburg and he still lives there now. This paper analyzes two political advertisements, Peace Little Girl (Daisy) from the 1964 U.S. presidential election and Prouder, Stronger, Better (Morning in America) from the 1984 election, using Jowett and O Donnell s Framework and other models. (U) Peace Little Girl (Daisy) Campaign Advertisement (U) During the 1964 election of Lyndon B. Johnson versus Barry Goldwater, the Peace Little Girl (Daisy) commercial advocated for the audience to vote for Johnson. The commercial shows a young girl in a field picking pedals off of a daisy. The girl is later killed by a nuclear bomb explosion. The ideology and purpose of this propaganda campaign was to persuade people to vote for Johnson. In this advertisement, Johnson stands for peace and stability. This advertisement infers that a nuclear war is a reality if Johnson is not elected, and Goldwater becomes president. This advertisement does not directly state that Goldwater could start a war, but alludes that his extreme views could put the U.S. at risk. This advertisement s intent is also to portray Goldwater as an extremist, diminishing his chance to build a moderate image to appeal to more voters. In the beginning, the scientists community was divided into two parts, where one part supported Christian believes about the universal flood that was a proof of an existence of God and another group of scientists who rejected theories of Catastrophism. The early geologist, В«catastrophistsВ», believed that В«catastrophic events in the past determined the geologyof the Earth.В» In that time because of the lack of evidence catastrophists were not taken seriously enough. An alternative theory was called В«uniformitarianismВ» and a main idea is that the Earth is timeworn. Literary Devices In The God Of Small Things Arundhati Roy s The God of Small Things, a twisting tale seemingly centered on a case of family tragedy, unravels to form a critique on rigid social structures. This renders Iser s quote significant to a huge extent, as proven by the novel s fragmented narrative. By building the narrative around a crucial lack of information, readers are pushed to engage thoroughly with the text, as they have to piece together the jigsaw pieces that make up the story, so as to make complete sense of it, henceforth enabling a better understanding of the explicit when the implicit comes to light. In doing so, the meaning of the text comes alive in the readers imagination (Bennett 1682) through the readers realization that the seemingly irrelevant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As such, by inviting the reader to piece together the puzzle pieces of this critique, the boundaries between the writer and reader is blurred as the reader writes the text as well. In contrast these issues are in large not accepted in today s modern society. The first decisive opposing reactions by a modern and Elizabethan audience to a Shakespeare play such as Othello, is the status of women in this period. Othello among other plays of its era, introduce the idea of women as possessions. quot;O heaven! How got she out? quot; Here Brabantio is talking about his daughter Desdemona as if she is locked up in his prison. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once more as a modern audience we find it hard to appreciate the impact a woman speaking up for herself in this situation may have had on an Elizabethan audience. This is because in our society women speak up fro themselves everyday and this is taken for granted. The fact that Desdemona is given a voice is due to the controversial character of Othello. Because he says quot;let her speak quot;, he is showing not only respect and trust for Desdemona, but also great compassion. This understanding maybe comes from the fact that he was once a slave himself, and has sympathy for women because of his past experiences. Othello is an important character in showing other divided reactions by an Elizabethan and modern audience. In this era slavery was widely accepted, as of course is not the case today. Men such as Othello were extremely honoured to have a status such as a general, and again like the fact that Desdemona has a say, a black man being a general in the army would have been a highly unlikely event. The Dust Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and part of Nebraska. How did the people of the United Statespersevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go through another devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start of the Dust Bowlwere farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase profit and minimalize spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on. This made the demand for wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their crops. Our nation was making money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn every foot of land into farming land. What were the interactions like between the churches in America and the churches in Sweden? How did different denominations function and interact? The author of the article, George Ericson, begins by detailing the evolution of hymns through various religious movements in Swedish history. He focuses on the transatlantic transfer of hymns between America and Sweden. This source reiterates the importance of Martin Luther and the Reformation. • 45. Examples Of Imagination In Kubla Khan According to Eagleton imaginative is what the mind can create using its originality and exceptionality, it is something that has not occurred in real life, or cannot be claimed as something factually true. It is conceived in the minds of individuals, but not projected into real life. He uses terms like did not exist literary untrue , inventive to further state his opinion on what imaginative is. Imaginative for the Romantics had three main functions; the capability to transcend reality, to recreate memory, and to notify the creation of art. Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a bright example of the transforming power imagination has. The poet s usage of diction and allegories transform this poem into a symbol for imagination. It is said that it was written after Coleridge s encounter with the sublime while still being under the effect of opium, and when he went to record it, he was disrupted by a visitor and the remaining of the poem was lost even to him. In the poem he shows how possibilities are limitless as long as our imaginations are; Coleridge uses caverns measureless to man as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again this piece by Coleridge is a demonstration of this principle. The lyrics flow up to a moment of clear recollection of the scenery, leaving the poem incomplete so that the faculty of imagination would not be diluted. Coleridge in the 3 stanzas which he relived captured the sublime, and the striking feature of this poem is in its deconstructed syntax which eagerly captured the scenery. But oh! That deep romantic chasm which slanted/ Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! / A savage place! . This is a scene that Coleridge experienced in a dream, and its recollection in reality must express the resplendence of what he felt. We can see that grammatical requirements were not fulfilled since they would merely limit the true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster (1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body horror and postmodern horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred boundary between the self and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. • 47. Differences Between Greeks And The Mediterranean Sea Greeks have been in America since about 1528. Greece is located at the southeast end of Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. The first recorded Greeks colonized in Florida, which is where about 77 thousand Greeks still inhabit today as well as a majority of the East Coast. Greeks believe in a simple four step process to being healthy and if these four basic kinds of things are in order they will be healthy but if they are out of order, illness will occur. I chose to do my research on Greeks because I had heard of the popular Mediterranean Diet talked about for years. I have also seen movies about Greek culture, like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but did not know all the traditions of the Greeks. The four step process of health maintenance ... As far as my research shows, most modern Greeks go to physicians to restore their health. There are also Greeks who use a new alternative form of medicine used today called Hellenistic pagans, these are people who pray to the Greek Gods to help them heal. They also use dietary management using foods that are easy to digest like soups to detoxify their bodies. Another way to restore health is to correct the four step process if you are doing something wrong. To protect their health from the evil eye, Greeks wear garlic, amulets, or make a cross out of ash behind a child s ear. The evil eye curse is when someone has envy for another, and this superstition has been around for many years and symptoms include headache, nausea and confusion. Greeks also knock wood to guard against misfortune. Many cultures also have rites, which are ceremonial acts. Birth rites in the Greek culture are very important, because family is important, so birth is celebrated. Gifts are given to pregnant women like little amulets to guard against evil eye or gold coins. Families also often honor traditional names in the family by bestowing the name on the baby. For the marriage rites the ceremony is spoken in Greek or English, but there are traditional parts that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The Development Of Catholic Worship The development of Catholic understanding is expressed through Cristian doctrines and features of Catholic communal life. Catholic Christianity raises and attempts to answer questions of ultimate meaning and value through rule of faith and Catholic worship. Sacraments are a part of Catholic worship as they are involved in the liturgical life within church. The rule of faith is a community s measurement of someone s faith. The kerygma is six discourses that are referred to as proclamation and summarize Christian faith (125). Some of the ultimate meaning and value questions include: what is the ultimate meaning of Jesus Christ; what is the ultimate meaning behind baptism; and how is the liturgy a part of Catholic value these questions will be answered through information provided in Cunningham s text. Firstly, belief in Jesus Christ is a major part of Catholicism. Throughout time, there s been much discussion about whether or not Jesus was a human. There was much suspicion about the bread and wine actually being Christ s body and blood. In chapter 5, Catholic Worship, it was explained that Catholics believe that the coming of Jesus Christ, who was the Word of flesh was a great sacrament (101). Christ was considered to being a great sacrament because he was the visible sign of God s presence which symbolized God s love for Earth. Christ should be considered God made man.
