Classification of plant.
Classification of plant
• Kingdom plantae.
• Basis for classification.
• CRYPTOGAMS.
Division.I-Thallophyta.
Division.II-Bryophyta.
Kingdom Plantae.
Five kingdom classification system was propsed
by Robert Whittaker in 1959 for the study of living
Organisms.
The group of autotrophic living organisms having
eukaryotic cells with cell well is the group of plant.
Living organisms of kingdom plantae are main source
of food for all living organisms.
Kingdom classification.
Kingdom classification
Basis for classifiaction.
• The presence and absence of separate conducting tissues for
conduting water and food.
• Plant bear seeds are enclosed in a fruit or not.
• Presence and absence of fruit ,flower & seeds.
• Plant are classified as Cryptogams or phanerogams.
• Phanerogams are classified as gymnosperms or angiosperm.
• Angiosperm are further classified as monocots or dicot.
An introduction to scientist.
In 1883 Eichler a botanist
classified the kingdom plantae
into two sub kingdom.One is
Cryptogams and another one
is Phanerogams.
The First sub kingdom plantae
CRYPTOGAMS.
A cryptogams (Cryptogamae) is a plant that reproduces
by spores without flower or seeds. Cryptogams means hidden
reproduction referring to the facts that no seeds is produced.
The best groups of Cryptogams are algae, lichens, mosses & fern
‘
Division I-Thallophyta.
Characteristics of Thallophyta:-
• They are found in moist or wet places.
• They are autotrophic i.e manufacture their own food.
• Reserve food is generally starch.
• They have a cellulose call wall around their cells.
• They have a unicellular or multicellular.
• These plants have a soft and fibre like body.
Examples of thallophyt.(ulva,chara,spirogyra)
Division II-BRYOPHYTA.
Characteristic of Bryophyta :-
• Bryophyta is called amphibiansof the plant kingdom because they grow in moist
soil but need water reproduction.
• These plants are thalloid multicellular and autotrophic.
• They are reproduce by spores formation.
• The structure of the plant body of bryophytesflat ribbon like long without true roots
stem and leaves.
• They have stem like it lead like parts and roots like Rhizoids.
• They do not have specific tissue for conductingof food and water.
Examples of Bryophyta:-
Moss (funaria), Marchantia.
