Business Social Networking - part 1: cultural and historical perspective #BSN...Roberto Lofaro
This book is based on two drafts/concepts (on social networking and marketing, and social networking and security) that I had registered with WGA in 2008, before giving a non-exclusive license to part of the material to contribute to a marketing book, and preparing to contribute to a book on networking (technology and methods; eventually my participation was scuttled), extensively revised and updated in 2013.
The second volume, initially forecast for 2015, was not published due to a potential conflict of interest (a contract started in 2015 that ended in 2018)
Therefore, it will be revised and published in late 2018, with a focus on social networking and marketing, six months after the enforcement of GDPR (i.e. forecast for early December 2018).
This short book (or extended essay) is just part of a series of collected thoughts and analysis.
Focus: the impact of social and technological change on traditional management practices.
Aim: to raise informed questions, not to provide answers

This is a facts & figures overview of the Digital Scholarship Training offered by the Library & IT Services at the University of York over the last 18 months.
We've found the academic community (specifically academics, postgraduate researchers and support staff) extremely receptive to the workshops, which cover themes such as Twitter (for teaching and for research), blogging, the presentation tool Prezi, and Google Apps for Education.
If you work in a library or IT department at a Higher Education institution and have relevant expertise in this area, find a way to deliver it to the people who want it!
This chapter focuses on the trends that are changing The World Wide Web, electronic commerce and business in general. Web 2.0 refers to to dynamic web applications that allow people to collaborate and share information online.Besides, Web 2.0 applications have spawned the emergence of social software that people widely use for communicating and socializing.
A presentation about the fact that Learning and Development is broken. How we are all navel gazing, focused too much on benchmarking and best practice and not aware of the Cynefin framework. The solution is to go to the edge. There are three examples of "edges" here: Automattic as an example of distributed virtual teams really working, experimental academics finding out how to scale personalised education in Massive Open Online Courses and Mozilla coming up with Open Badges as an alternative to competency management. The story closes with the lean startup methodology as a way to set up your own experimentation.

I believe that the read/write Web, or what we are calling Web 2.0, will culturally, socially, intellectually, and politically have a greater impact than the advent of the printing press. I believe that we cannot even begin to imagine the changes that are going to take place as the two-way nature of the Internet begins to flower, and that even those of us who have spent time imagining this future will be astounded by what happens. I’m going to identify ten trends in this regard that I think have particular importance for education and learning, and then discuss seven steps I think educators can take to make a difference during this time.

Its part of my quest to get more Indigenous People on social media - blogging, sharing etc. I developed this for a friend at the Australian Catholic University teaching in Indigenous Education. I'm basically trying to develop a really easy how-to document. I want to use it this semester with my own students, but its too big to email - so we'll see if it works here!

Deadly Bloggers: Indigenous narratives enduring through digital participation
Abstract: In 2012, Deadly Bloggers was created as a blog list, within a few months it became it’s own Twitter account, and twelve months later became its own website. Deadly Bloggers is the first directory of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander blogs. It supports and encourages people to blog and to have their ideas and culture recorded and shared within families, communities, as well as nationally and globally. It is also a tool for sharing educational knowledge to a broader audience. This workshop will provide an overview of Deadly Bloggers, and then will provide guidance to those new to social media about how to start their own blogs.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
