Throughout the lockdowns, the internet saw a surge in search volume on self-development and distance learning. The term “practical skills” was thrown around haphazardly, which kind of made me look further than the google search could provide.
It’s December 2020. We all have been through a tough year. In recognition of the sacrifices made in these difficult times, I only want to say, “well done!”.
Moving on from that point, 2021 is right on our doorstep. A NEW YEAR means new challenges and new opportunities to overcome them. I don’t believe there is a better way to prepare for this than to consciously develop a unique skill that adds value to you as an individual. With that in mind, I wanted to take a look at what practical skills are and which ones you can benefit the most from.

The tech industry in the US has generated more than 200,000 new jobs every year since 2010, with more jobs still being created as we speak.
Tech Jobs globally are surging at an all-time high with more people’s talents in demand than ever, and new roles being created as a result of the overload in the industry. The need for more division of labour has made Tech a juicy role for anyone with or without a degree.
Before now, we had the nerdy people constitute the majority, but now it’s becoming a different case. We now have tech roles for code and no-code individuals.

IT Leaders Aren't All Coming From Tech
COLLAPSE
I noticed that many of my classmates also chose this article, but I still decided to discuss "IT Leaders Aren't All Coming From Tech" because I felt like I connected with it the most. Although I am a millennial that grew up in the tech era and am able to quickly grasp new technologies, I do not have a tech background. I found it very interesting that the leadership roles in IT are evolving to include those with business expertise as well. As we have learned from Magal in our textbook, the global marketplace is becoming increasingly competitive, and IS is an important tool for businesses to keep up in this fast-paced environment. So, it is important for non-IS managers to still possess some general knowledge of IS in order to make informed IS decisions to benefit their company's IS strategy. This article reinforces the concept of the Information Systems Strategy Triangle, reminding us that business strategy, organizational strategy and IS strategy are interdependent to a company's success. As stated in the article, IT is increasingly becoming "a business strategy enabler", meaning that technology is an integral part of business. The example used int he article of Francis Li is a great example of the importance of the Information Systems Strategy Triangle. Li's experience in multiple fields of business allow him to be more innovative and to make the most informed decisions possible. He is able to relate his IS experience with his marketing and sales experience to develop successful strategies for his company by linking these two fields together.

Digital and Innovation Chiefs Among Most In Demand C-Level Jobs
COLLAPSE
In order for a company to stay relevant today, they have to adapt to the changes through technology and news. I enjoyed this article because it gave me hope and confirmation on what I want to do with my future. My goal when I first started grad school was to find a job that I could ultimately see my self doing for the long run. The Term CMO came up and I researched it and realized that this is exactly what I wanted to do, and the demand for this position will only continue to increase from this year forward.
It is not always about what product or service a company can provide but the brand identity and how it is precieved to its customers. Consumers want to feel comforted and have that trust when buying into a brand. Digital and Innovation chiefs are in demand because they are able to understand what is in the now and apply that to the company or brand they work for. It can be difficult.
After I made the decision to turn my financial crisis around, I began to ask myself some valuable questions.
The first question being, "Why is it that most people do not make it?"
With all the wealth that still exists, why is it that so few people get to be successful?
What is going on that limits us to sharing in only a fraction of this country's wealth, and what can we do about it.
The other thing I was very curious about was why there are some people that start with nothing and become millionaires, some people even in their early 20s, and there Some people in their 30s, 40s or 50s.
There is no age limit for financial success. But there are other people who seem much more intelligent, often with a higher education, that in terms of achieving financial success, fail and their lives are filled with hard work and struggle.
What is the difference between the two? Is it luck that has some people acquire wealth, perhaps they buy more lotto tickets? Do they marry into money, or inherit it? Or is there a bit more to it?
Let us then look at the "success formula" that most people have been following. That of going to school, getting a good education and then working long and hard until retirement.
It is interesting to note people following this formula, which is nearly 96% of the population the ones who generally by the age of 65 end up dead, dead broke pension or need the family to support them.
Being broke is temporal, being poor can become permanent if not properly checked.
Nobody becomes broke by accident, it happens by our actions or inaction. As you know, not taking action in itself is an action.
I guarantee you that if you read this book to the end and follow the principles laid out, you will eternally divorce poverty out of your life.
What right do I have to write a book like this? I have been broke to the point of breaking into two. I know what it means to be on the other side of the financial fence.
However, after applying the same principles I have written here, I have completely won the fight.
I want to congratulate you for picking this book, I know it will go down in the sand of time as a turning point in your financial life.
Within this module, you will learn about what a digital footprint is, and how this can impact your professional life. The second topic you will learn about digital overload, and how it can impact us at work. The third topic introduces how digital technologies can impact self esteem and potentially take a toll on our physical health. Finally, you will also be given some tips and methods that you can use to help ensure that you are able to switch off and rest better.

Learning "Digital Skills for the Workplace" sessions. These are in person workshops in Rochdale, sponsored by RBH and New Pioneers and delivered by No Worries IT Ltd
First Launched in 2019, this digital wellness collaborative paper aims to have a positive impact on people like us who went through a wake-up call and are trying to make a change in the ultra-connected society we live in by joining forces with thoughtful leaders in the community.
The format is very easy to digest as it brings personal perspectives from top leaders and pioneers in the industry. We carefully selected a diverse and enriching group of people from tech engineers, mindfulness teachers, and entrepreneurs, to therapists, artists, writers, and retreat owners, and asked them to share some tips and inspire the community. Along with their recommendations, this year we launched our #TechSatire series; a parody of the everyday use of technology in our modern society. These pieces of entertainment showcase realistic and socially acceptable situations, which, in reality, are often quite paradoxical. Perhaps, then, tech is not as simple and flawless as how it was sold to us.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. The Changing World of Remote Working, Teaching, and Learning
1. The Changing World of Remote Working,
Teaching, and Learning
The world’s not what it used to be. Gone are the times where noblemen used to sit around and do
nothing.
We’re seeing an almost tectonic shift in people’s thinking. Now we respect people who have
skills. Skills are what determines your value in today’s changing world.
So much has changed and so much will change. From living in caves to living in skyscrapers, we
humans have come so far. We’ve achieved so much. For better or for worse, we live in modern
society now.
Through our skills and knowledge, we’ve made great innovations. We’ve achieved what was
previously thought unachievable. Think about it, if you go back in time and tell a person living in
the 1800s about smartphones, computers, other technologies that can communicate via waves,
nuclear bombs that can wipe out entire countries, vehicles that can go at ungodly speeds, would
that person believe you? Probably not. But these things appear common to us now. Nothing
special….
Before we begin, want to hear something ironic? The most negative word of 2020 is- positive.
Just food for thought.
Let’s begin
The world is going through a crisis right now, namely, COVID-19. And history has taught us
that with crisis comes change.
2. After the 2 world wars, the entire world changed. Great technological leaps were made. The
modern society that we live in today is built on the innovations that were made during those
crises.
And the significant change that has come due to this COVID-19 crisis is in the form of remote
working.
With this COVID-19 crisis, the world has unanimously agreed on one thing, and that thing
is, remote working is the future.
Welcome to the changing world of remote working
Although we all knew this was the future, we just didn’t think it’d come this fast. After the
COVID-19 hit, almost all countries were put on lockdown, all non-essential offices, schools,
colleges and universities were shut down. And everyone thought this would bring society to a
halt. BUT….
Almost everyone all over the world said NO, this is the modern society we live in, just because
we can’t go outside doesn’t mean everything will stop.
Everyone started working from home remotely. And they still are working from home. I myself
am writing this article from the comfort of my home. Schools and colleges are conducting
classes online. We, as a society, have indeed come far.
Most of our works are done online now anyway, so this isn’t really a big problem. I mean, what
is it that you need to work remotely, what are the remote working tools, the remote working
essentials if you will. I think for most people it’s this, and be warned the list might surprise you.
Remote working essentials-
1. A computer
2. An internet connection
That’s it!!
WHAT! Am I mad? What am I saying? All you need is a computer and an internet
connection? Blasphemy!!
Before you start typing angrily in the comment box, just wait a minute and listen. Despite what
you may have read on the internet, the article that said “10 essential things that you need to work
from home”, “20 must-haves to work remotely” all of them were saying the same thing just in a
different way, all of them intended to catch your eyes with the biggest number possible.
Before falling for such marketing themed articles that are designed to make you think you need
something that you actually don’t. Think for yourself, and you’ll realize what I’m talking about.
Yes, I understand that your job may require you to have specialized equipment and other tools.
But for the majority of people out there who are doing regular 9 to 5 jobs, a good enough
computer and an internet connection is all you need.
3. Remote working Skills you must have.
Unlike the £300 comfy chair that your article said you’d need, the thing that you will genuinely
need is skills. And this is the perfect time to tell you about this.
Remote working is not like your typical blue-collar jobs. The thing about remote working is this,
it mostly comes down to your skills. The more skilled you are, the easier it is for you to work
remotely.
Technical skills that you should have
Some technical skills have become a must nowadays, for example
1. Knowing how to use MS Office,
2. Knowing how to use Google’s Office suite,
3. A little bit of coding,
4. A bit of graphic design,
5. Basic skills in photoshop,
6. Basic web design
7. Knowing how to edit photos and videos
8. Basic photography and videography
All these are basic skills that you should have as a human being living in the 21st century. It has
become challenging to get by without these skills. And you will need these skills for any type of
job that you apply for.
Now don’t worry if you don’t have these skills yet. These are really not that hard to learn. All
these things are straightforward, and the internet is filled with great online courses that’ll teach
you these skills within days. They also provide certificates after completing such courses, so you
can add them to your CV, and that’ll significantly improve your career opportunities.
Here are a few excellent courses that I found, these will benefit you greatly and will teach you
the essential skills you need.

Essential Soft Skills
Apart from these technical skills, you should also have some soft skills. What I mean by that is
you should be able to interact with people efficiently. You and I live in a world where there is
no shortage of people, but most of them don’t have the necessary human skills that are needed.
For example,
1. knowing how to properly communicate and talk to people,
2. having a positive attitude and having leadership traits,
3. knowing how to dress appropriately.
These things go a long way to help you succeed.
You might think that these soft skills have nothing to do with working remotely, but you’d be
wrong. Necessary skills like these will forever pay off and will benefit you in every step of
the way.
6. Certificate Course on Self-Leadership

Why I think a change in education is important
Remote Learning & Teaching
If we can work remotely, we can also learn remotely. And everyone has realized that. The way
schools and colleges have quickly adopted online classes has really made me think moving
forward, online education will have a massive role in the future.
We already have online courses that are great and provide excellent education and professional
level degrees. So it makes sense that online classes also become mainstream in the future.
Online teaching will also provide excellent employment opportunities for teachers and
individuals who have skills.
The world is changing, it’s becoming increasingly mobile, we work on the go, we value skill
over everything else. We are indeed evolving, and it’s terrific.
As the world continues to put emphasis on remote working, you should do what you can to keep
up and gain the skills needed to keep up with this changing world.
