Edmodo is an educational social networking site that allows teachers to connect with students. It takes the ideas of social media and refines them to be appropriate for classroom use. The site was created in 2008 by Nic Borg and Jeff O'Hara who wanted to design a platform for educators to take advantage of the benefits of social media. Edmodo is free for teachers and students and provides features like assignments, quizzes, polls, discussions and file sharing to facilitate instruction while keeping student information private. Over 35 million users from around the world currently use Edmodo.

Nic Borg and Jeff O’Hara started Edmodo.
 Their goal was to design a platform so
educators could take advantage of the many
positive aspects of social media and connect
them to education practice.
 Edmodo has connected almost 35 million
people globally
