A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Â
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation âBlue Starâ is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
Â
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesarâs dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empireâs birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empireâs society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
Â
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. ⥠Factors Influencing Behavior
ïź Behavior is always the product of-
ânature of the individual or organism that behaves and
ânature of the situation in which the individual finds
himself.
ïź Nature of an individual depends on his heredity, his
growing environment, his culture, and his learning.
ïź Individuals differ not only with respect to their
appearances but also in their sensitivities, response
repertoires, intelligence, interests, motivations, and
personalities.
ïź The psychologist is concerned with the contribution of the
organism to behavior and also with determining the liking
and differences that exist within species, races, and
groups.

3. ⥠Casual Sequence in Behavior (SOBA)
ïź Stimulus Situation: Light, Sounds, Job routines,
Other people, Actions of Supervisor, Any aspect of
the Environment to which a person is Sensitive
ïź Organism: Heredity, Biological Needs, Many
Learning, i.e., Knowledge, Skills, Certain Needs,
Attitudes and Values
ïź Behavior: Body movements, Talking, Facial
Expression, Emotional Responses, Thinking
ïź Accomplishment: Change in Stimulation, Survival

âSâ represents the situation which supplies the stimulation to the individual or organism, âOâ. The
double-headed arrow indicates that O interacts with S. The response of the organism is shown by
the single-headed arrow leading to B, which represents behavior. The interaction between S and
O, therefore, precedes the behavior. The behavior in turn acts on the outside world and this lead
to an accomplishment, A.

smskabir218@gmail.com 4
5. ⥠Purpose of Behavior
â Purpose refers to anticipations or expectations.
âșAnticipations are a product of many past learning and are a part of the
manâs make up, as are all his/her memory.
âșExpectations are to quite effective because many events of today are
duplicates of the events of yesterday.
A man is running down the street. We stop him and ask
him why he is running, and he replies, âI am running to
catch the 4:15 train to Chittagongâ.
It is reasonable to suppose the man (1) has a need for this
train (motivation), (2) knows the train schedule, the
distance to the station, and that running saves time
(knowledge); and (3) has the ability to run (aptitude and
physical make up). All these conditions existed before the
running took place and so are antecedent events.

smskabir218@gmail.com 5
6. ⥠Determine Behavior by the Nature
ïź Heredity is an extremely important factor
in determining the nature of the individual.
ïź Knowledge, skill and language are
obviously acquired and represent important
modifications in behavior.
ïź Some aspects of behavior are culturally
determined.
ïź Manâs nature is both inborn and acquired.
SMS Kabir, smskabir@psy.jnu.ac.bd;
smskabir218@gmail.com 6
7. ⥠Applications of Causation Formula to Job
â Same Behavior may have Different Causes
ïź A man working at a drawing board leans back in his chair and
gazes out the window. Immediately we can give the explanation:
â1. His eyes are tired â2. He is thinking
â3. He is worried about something â4. He is out of
work
â5. He is waiting for the supervisor â6. He is bored
â7. He is loafing
ïź The first two items suggest no need for changing the behavior;
ïź The third, that the man may require help;
ïź The fourth, that he is doing more than is expected of him;
ïź The fifth suggests the need to improve supervisory coverage or
training;
ïź The sixth and seventh indicate the exigency of improving
motivation or job placement.
SMS Kabir, smskabir@psy.jnu.ac.bd;
smskabir218@gmail.com 7
8. Same behavior might require different remedies for various individuals.
S1 OA
S2 OB BX
S3 OC
S1, S2 and S3 indicate three different situations in which individuals OA, OB and OC
find themselves. The resulting behavior, BX, can be the same for all three persons
but the best way to change BX might be quite different in each instance.
â Same Cause May Have Many Behaviors
Thoughts, ideas and behavior of a man depend on the body and the situation. A
home problem might affect an employeeâs behavior on the job. The following
behaviors are possible:
â Daydreaming â Neglecting to follow safe practices
â Poorer attention to quality of work â Increased work-pace
â Hypersensitive to supervisorâs remarks, and consequent uncooperative behavior
â Disagreeableness to other employees â Failure to report for work.
SMS Kabir, smskabir@psy.jnu.ac.bd;
smskabir218@gmail.com 8
9. How behavior varies for different individuals in the same
situation:
OA BX
S1 OB BY
OC BZ
Several people, OA, OB and OC, in the same situation, S1, may
respond quite differently by showing behaviors BX , BY, and BZ. At
the scene of an accident (S1), some people become so excited they
are more trouble than help; others act quickly and intelligently;
still others watch passively while others take action. Similarly, if
a bad work situation (S1) is remedied, the crew memberâs
performances may improve in various different ways.
SMS Kabir, smskabir@psy.jnu.ac.bd;
smskabir218@gmail.com 9
10. ⥠Nature of People
â Individual Differences â Perception
â A Whole Person â Motivated behavior
â Desire for Involvement â Value of the Person
⥠Differences between Management and Labor
Here Management is Employer and Labor is Employee.
â Economic Aspects â Ego, Intelligence level
â Different Perception of different people
â Increase of Production
â Unemployment creates psychological changes for an employee in a
negative direction. The unemployed man becomes emotionally unstable,
loses his sense of values, self confidence, and acquires habits of loafing and
killing time and destroyed his spirit.
