Policies Assist users in acquiring freely available data in conjunction with the library liaison.  Attempt to purchase data sets for UNCG researchers dependent upon funding and the Library’s ability to comply with license and use restrictions.  Methodological questions or data analysis and interpretation are beyond the scope of the Library's Data Services.  The Library does not currently support GIS
ICPSR The  Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research ICPSR’s mission is to: Collect and preserve research data. Disseminate data for further analysis and instruction by researchers, scholars and instructors. Serve as a leading quantitative analysis training resource. Access ICPSR from the  Database list .
Archives for Education International Archive of Education Data Primarily includes data from the National Center for Education Statistics. Includes data sources like  Common Core of Data  and  National Household Education Survey (NHES) Child Care & Early Education, Research Connections 132 datasets and over 11,000 resources on child care and early education
Other Sources National Center for Education Statistics Data Analysis System Includes Pre-Elementary Education Longitudinal Study (PEELS) from the  National Center for Special Education Research National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 Special Education Elementary Longitudinal Study

Final Tips Find a problem that truly interests you! Establish a strong base in the literature during coursework. Read for theory AND for data sources. Take advantage of workshops (some are funded!). Explore the dataset fully and find literature on its use. Contact IRB and find out if you need a determination or exemption. Take advantage of the benefits of secondary data.
