Figurative Language In Under Milk Wood
We do not deliberately associate poetry and advertising as related concepts nor do we acknowledge
these mediums to be of equal significance. Universally, poetry is identified to be one of the greatest
accomplishments of the creative arts, attributable to the complex diction and manipulation of
figurative language presented in the nature of these literary works. Conversely, advertising is
measured as far from being an independent art it is frequently represented as abundant in deceptive
connotations to persuade a specific audience through the use of wheedling subject matter to
promote a product or company s commercial image. Despite that, it is advertising which surrounds
us today through modern day technology, while the presence of poetry... Show more content on

Additionally, this is owing to the fact that the images have already been established by the
commercial and therefore, the aesthetics are easier to perceive. This commercial follows a filmic
approach, where the quiet, landscape of the city at night is delivered by Richard Burton s
ominously articulated radio performance of Dylan Thomas s play, Under Milk Wood and
overlapped with a minimalistic and hypnotising tune from the movie Solaris. The application of a
poetic transcription and simplistic music flawlessly accentuates the thrilling commercial spot. What
makes this advertisement so individual from others of its kind and so incredibly emotive is the use
of visual language, in the absence of a concrete script. Empty classrooms, bare roads, the scenes
depicting the desolated surroundings would expectantly evoke feelings of negativity. However, the
dismal theme and subdued hues meets the expected emotional response in relation to the
impression that driving at night is liberating etc. In the graphically prepossessing imagery of vast
solitude, there is no apparent narrative; yet the tagline resonates in our minds. This feeling of
enlightenment is kindled, similar to poetry, where the aesthetics and representations of specific
ideologies involves audiences on an emotional

Public Policy Vs. Administration
Public Policy and Administration is an interesting and important knowledge for all people. Every
one on this earth, regardless of his profession, hobbies, or religious views, faces these concepts.
This paper is going to describe the concepts of public policy and administration and an importance
of this area for effective and efficient management.
A public policy is an activity that has a good combination between politics and administrative
activities. The major goal of public administration are established and introduced to political actors.
So, a public policy sets the goals for public administration.
The state policy chooses the direction, in which the state develops. Interests of the state determine
the direction of its development. An experienced politician should always be a cautious man who
knows what will be important for people tomorrow and after five or ten years. This quality will
allow him or her to motivate people and to develop the country in needed sectors.
In order to avoid a political crisis, the government should not only clearly determine a list of
priorities for people, but also represent their current and long term interests. This way, the public
policy will be properly developed and will have an accurate strategic line. The government will also
manage to control the situation inside the country and become a significant player in the
international political arena.
According to some scholars, public administration is an organizational and regulating

A Brief Note On Mechanical Engineering And Engineering
When taking a look at the world today, it is concluded that it has now been taken over by
engineers. With new inventions being innovated day by day, the world has been improved
magnificently with the help of engineers. Although there is no way to specifically define
someone as a leader, with all of the new inventions that are created by engineers daily they can
definitely be classified as leaders and creators of todays world. In almost every corner of this earth,
there is some sort of engineeringinvolved. Know as some of the smartest people in the world, they
are what improve and make a difference in our daily activities. Mechanical, civil, electrical,
computer, and biomedical engineers are only a few of the many that have and continue to change
the world daily with their inventions.
Mechanical Engineers
Mechanical engineering is one of the types of engineering that can be found almost everywhere.
For example, automobiles, it is nearly impossible to stay away from them as they are found
almost everywhere. Mechanical engineers work on the structure, the designs and re designs of
automobiles by improving their functions to benefit and them suitable for everyone. Another form
of inventions that are fun for or everyone or at least some people are rollercoaster and rides.
Rollercoaster are designed by mechanical engineers, from top to bottom, they make sure that the
structure of a certain rollercoaster or any ride is properly engineered for the safety and
entertainment of

Bioethics’s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones Essay examples
Bioethics s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones
In the article Does Shortness Need a Cure? Ronald Bailey, the author, indicates Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approval of growth hormone use offers a treatment plan for those who are
short in stature. Bailey also acknowledges bioethics as a seriously debated topic in the medical field
. Bioethics deals with the studies of moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research
(Caplan). Bailey touches on the topic of bioethics as it deals with the use of growth hormones,
specifically Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for people who are distinguished by their short stature.
FDA Ruling and the Ethics Behind it

Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money
spent on treatment.
According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children
implies it is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution
curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous
to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal
then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often
do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are
naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the
use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height.
At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people
have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at
one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele
1). If there is no completely accurate way to predict how tall a child will be, then there is no way
for anyone to decide and limit which children are getting the injections of

Compare And Contrast A Unitary And Human Needs Theory
Compare and Contrast: A Unitary and Human Needs Theory Martha Rogers and Virginia
Henderson are two theorists who have been very influential in the nursing profession, evidenced
in both scholarly and practical settings. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast
Rogers unitary theory and Virginia Henderson s human needs theory; including the background
and philosophy that influenced these theorist, along with how they defined the meta paradigm
concepts of nurse, person, health, and environment, and the usefulness of their ideas to practice.
Background, Influences and Philosophical Orientation Martha Rogers was born in Dallas,
Texas, 1914 (ANA, 2017). The American Nursing Association recognized that Rogers received
her diploma from the Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1936, and the following
year received her bachelor of science in Nashville from the George Peabody College (2017). In
1954, she was appointed the professor of nursing at a New York University, where she later
developed her science of unitary and irreducible human beings theory through the exploration of
philosophical and theoretical studies (ANA, 2017). Roger s influence was her belief in developing
an existing body of knowledge that was unique and specific to nursing, and that supported the need
for nurses to get a higher education (Wayne, 2014). Rogers s theory was deductively derived by
borrowing propositions from anthropology, psychology, sociology, physics, mathematics, and

However, shortly after McCarty completed of his new fishing boat, states along the Gulf of
Mexico banned purse seining. McCarty s career seemed over. However, the end of his fishing
career led to the development of his third career. Other fishermen who had seen McCarty s purse
seining boat and had been impressed with its fine construction approached him to build strong,
highperformance vessels to fit their unique needs. The demand for his boats continued to increase
and, in 1985, McCarty founded Silver Ships, named after the color of the aluminum used in the
boats construction. The company progressively outgrew three different rental locations and, in
1996, moved to its present Theodore, Alabama, location. McCarty renamed his obsolete purse

Ambar Marine Inc., a New Orleans based shipbuilder producing aluminum boats, began
searching in the late 1980s for a subcontractor to build its survival of life at sea (SOLAS) boat, a
rescue boat for ships and oil platforms. Ambar approached McCarty at a New Orleans workboat
show and proposed that Silver Ships build boats for it. After a visit from the Ambar executives to

How Did Socrates Corrupt Youth
Socrates was a wise philosophical man that was in search of the truth about wisdom. However,
his answers of true wisdom and his opinions lead Socrates to be brought up on charges. Many
viewed him as a corrupting influence on other people accused him of forcing his ideas upon
others. Socrates was charged with two charges, the first one was impiety and the second one was
the corrupting of the youth. Socrates responded to these charges by denying the fact that his
wisdom and philosophical activities had caused no harm to the society he lives in. Socrates defense
against the charge that he does not believe in the gods is honest and sufficient. Socrates states that
the accusers are in the wrong for accusing Socrates that they are even contradicting... Show more

Socrates questions Meletus, one of the men that accused him of corrupting the youth. During this
trial, he says that Meletus only pretends to care and be serious of things he has never cared about
before. Socrates asks him, do you not regard it as most important how the youth will be the best
possible? (24 d), and Meletus does not respond at first but then says that the judges and the laws
are what shapes the youth to make them better. Socrates defends himself by saying that the only
reason they brought him to trial is because they did not like Socrates ignorance and find him
irritating. Socrates was the only one who cared about teaching the youth because he understood that
they were important and they were the future. For it would be a great happiness for the young if
one alone corrupts them, while the others benefit them. But in fact, Meletus, you have sufficiently
displayed that you never yet gave any thought to the young. And you are making your own lack of
care plainly apparent, since you have cared nothing about the things for which you bring me in

The Outsiders And The Outsiders Similarities
How can two people who are completely different share similarities? Dally and Johnny, two
greasers from S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders, have distinct differences as well as similarities. They
are similar because they both know what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Also,
they both care about each other in similar ways. Dally and Johnny are completely different when
it comes to the law. Dally is the least law abiding in the gang, where as Johnny is the most. Dally
and Johnny are dissimilar as they die. Dally dies a hoodlum, which is vast differencefrom how
Johnny dies a hero. Therefor, Dally and Johnny have a lot in common, but also have great
differences. Dally and Johnny are similar in a way of knowing what it is like to have abusive
and neglectful parents. Dally has no love coming from his home, which is why he does some
reckless things. The loveless life he has at home is cause of his inability to love others. His
parents do not interact with him and Dally states, my old man don t give a hang whether I m in
jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter (88). Dally s parents do not give him the attention
he needs and they neglect him to a world where he has made himself closed off and tough.
Similarly to how Johnny faces abuse and neglect when it comes to his parents. Like Dally, letting
people in is hard for Johnny because of his family. Johnny s home life is terrible and His father

The Importance Of Equal Rights In Israel
Since the Zionist movement began in the late 19th century, Jews have been treating the Palestinian
people as a minority and have been pushing them out of Palestine in an effort to create a Jewish
state. In his book Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation , Saree Makdisi, provides a
detailed account of how Palestinian people living in Israeland its occupied territories are still unable
to enjoy the same rights as Jewish people. He argues that Israel is oppressing the Palestinians and
violating international law by restricting their movement, thereby slowly diminishing the
Palestinian s presence within Israel. Makdisi believes that the only viable option to ensure
Palestinians have the same rights as the Jews is a one state solution, which I am inclined to agree
with.
The Israeli government has a bureaucratic process in place that oppresses Palestinians. Several
different international and human rights organizations have submitted that Israel s way of
supporting the Palestinians oftentimes violates international law. Palestinians have an everyday
struggle that Jews do not have to contend with, specifically due to Israel s handling of permits,
checkpoints, and zones, all of which are intended to break up Palestinian areas from each other (p.
29). As will be discussed in the following paragraphs, Israelis discriminate against Palestinians on a
daily basis, grinding down their hope for peace and equal rights.
Israel has a prejudiced permit system, which makes

Granville Oral Roberts Research Paper
Born to parents who had a strong dedication to their faith, Granville Oral Roberts was born near
Ada, Oklahoma. His father preached the gospel and established Pentecostal Holiness Churches,
and his mother prayed for the sick and led people to Christ. The family was poor, and his father
was a farmer while he pastored a church. While Roberts was in his mothers womb, she dedicated
him to the Lord. He was born with a severe stutter, but she continually told him that he would be
healed and speak to multitudes.
At age 16, Roberts left home with hopes of living a better life. He started living a worldly life and

television. Roberts started to record his crusades on film in 1954. He broadcast sermons on radio
and broadcast crusade tapes on peak time, evening television. Thousands of phone calls and letters
came into the ministry. The ministry had a prayer team, 24 hours day, to answer the phone calls
and pray for people. By 1957 1,000,000 salvations were counted. Roberts conducted over 300 major
crusades between 1947 and 1968.
Roberts name appeared on the Top 100 list of the nation s most respected people for several
years. Between the late 1950s and the early 1960s, he was making a significant impact nationally.

Most people have terms or a language that they use in the comfort of their home, coming from a

Spanish in my home. The Spanish language is important to me because it is a way I identify
myself with my culture, it defines who I am and how I view the world. Traditional Hispanic
values consist of love, respect, honesty, caring and humility all in which were installed in me by
the women and men in my family at a very young age. As a family we have experienced many

Best Practices For Managing Parent Concerns Essay
In recent years, it is now customary for professionals who work in higher education to have
interesting stories about their interactions with parents. In Lynette S. Merriman s book, Best
Practices for Managing Parent Concerns: A Mixed Methods Study of Student Affairs Practice at
Doctoral Research Institutions, she uses the 2006 national survey of studentaffairs professionals to
discover that 93% of respondents recorded that their interactions with parents had increased in the
most recent five years of research (105; ch. 7). Not only have higher educationprofessionals seen
increased parental interactions with administrators, but also with students. In 2007, the
organization CollegeParents of America surveyed parents and found that 34% of respondents
reported that they communicated with their children either daily, or more than once a day (
National Parent Survey ). Increased parental involvement is driving colleges and universities to
examine the advantages and disadvantages of having parents as a more significant influence on
collegiate processes. The frequency and medium of communication between parents, students, and
administrators is a specific interest. Much of the increased involvement originates from the
prevalence of technology such as cell phones and e mail, parents are able to talk to their students
daily, receiving immediate updates happenings with classes, extra curricular activities, friends, and
roommates. In College Parents of America s survey, 90% of

Importance Of Reflection In Writing
I have made a phenomenal amount of progress this semester. English 101 has made me a better

from my mistakes. As a writer, I think I can still make an amount of improvement. With it being
from mechanic errors and to clear organization skills. As for providing clear and relevant
examples I have made improvements. I say I m an average, but growing writer. I have my skills
and weakness, but I still try harder. When I first came to English 101 I thought I had it down
packed. In high school, I took AP Lit, a advanced placement English class. AP Lit offered a college
level course, teaching us high school students college curricular. But when I received my first
assignment, I hesitated, not knowing what to write. Then modules were introduced, making it
better to reflect on. Constantly I relied on modules and notes, which helped me improve in my
writing, in result giving me better feedback. As I progress along the semester, my final paper
grades have improved. From starting on my political analysis project to finishing my argumentative
essay. My political analysis paper ended with a 70%. The 70% is from the lack of transition and
the lack of specific audiences. Also analyzing my information and relating back to my thesis. My

Persuasive Essay On Public Transportation
Imagine yourself sitting in traffic, you are just in your car and the engine is just going and gas
is being wasted and the fumes coming out which pollute our environment. You look out and see
that it is still bumper to bumper on I 680 going to work, you are stressing out because you might
be late for work. Then when you go back home, it s the same bumper to bumper traffic. All this
time you could have just been with your family, helping your kids with their homework, or work
on something for your job. Traffic is a major issue for 21st century cities, it is hurting our
economy and our environment. One solution to this is a major issue is to invest in public
transportation and encourage more people to ride public transportation. I am calling for the
Federal Transportation Administration, state, and local governments to invest more in public
transportation and spread the awareness of public transportation. Public transportation is
beneficial to our communities by providing a solution to traffic and the havoc it causes on our
lives. Public transportation can carry way more people per hour at full capacity than the typical
single commuter car. Freeways with cars that carry on average 1.2 persons per car in medium
traffic (around 30 mph) will only carry 1,080 people per hour. At max, a freeway can carry 1,800
cars per hour and that only results in 5,400 passengers per hour if there were 3 passengers per car.

Explore Shakespeare s Presentation of the Three Great...
During the scenes depicting the Battle of Actium, Shakespeare s presentation of Octavius Caesar,
Mark Antony and Cleopatra cause the balance of audience sympathy to change between the three
great leaders. Audience sympathy never lies by any real amount with Caesar, and in Acts III and
IV, the audience feels increasingly alienated from him. This is largely due to his calculated,
ruthless style of leadership, which becomes more evident during the battle. Caesar judges wisely,
and is successful because of this, and by Act III, Scene 7 he has already defeated Toryne В–
previously one of Antony s territories. In Act III, Scene 12, Shakespeare presents Caesar as a
callous and cruel leader, as he hears the requests of Antony for peace and... Show more content on

Also, though unwisely, Antony suggests a feast for their comfort , and this summarises his
leadership, as he is no longer presented by Shakespeare as a great and powerful leader, but as a
kind and generous man. Caesar appears to be a heartless leader, detached from the people, whereas
Antony shows his emotions and, thus, appears more human, which causes the audience to
sympathise with him. In Act IV, Scenes 5 and 8, Shakespeare presents Antony as a great leader
once again, as he defeats Caesar s land army, winning an unexpected victory and causing the
audience to venerate him once more, instead of feeling pity for his predicament. However, this
triumph is short lived, and in Act IV, Scene 12, Antony s navy surrenders to Caesar without a fight,
deserting Antony, leaving him feeling betrayed, and, once again, the audience sympathy shifts even
further towards Antony. Cleopatra develops as a character during this sequence, becoming more
sensible and less melodramatic in response to trivial problems. In Act III, Scene 7, Enobarbus tells
Cleopatra not to be involved in the battle itself, saying that: If we

Nail Polish Personal Statement
Whenever people ask me what I want to do in life, I always brace myself for the confused stares

The novel begins in the Mumbai slums where it is every man for themselves. People live on top of
one another near an international airport and luxury hotels. The living conditions are harsh, and
people must be thrifty scavengers in order to survive and overcome the challenges. It is difficult
because it seems everyone is taking advantage of the slum residence and taking away opportunities
for them to better themselves. One of the main characters is Abdul

Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse Essay
The Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse was built in 2011 to replace the office styled federal building.
This new building mirrors the Greek revival styled widespread in government buildings in the
United States. This style was used to match the authority the style has come to represent and was
inspired by other Tuscaloosa buildings including the President s Mansion and the State Capitol. The
buildingis multipurpose by housing multiple courtrooms as well as several other government
offices. Its courthouse accommodates the District Court, the Bankruptcy Court, the Probation
Office, the Marshals Service, the Attorney s Office, congressional offices, the GSA, the SSA, and
the FBI. The design needed to be modular and large in scale in order to accomplish this. Its layout

This art comes in the form of 16 oil painted murals by the artist Caleb Connor, that line the central
hallway between the pilasters. The murals are realistic in style and depict major historical events
that define Tuscaloosa. These depictions of events cover a large time period, one of which depicts
the recent tornado that occurred while the courthouse was still being built. The local art is used as a
further way to establish the building as part of it s environment. The Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse
could have easily been designed as a modern office building like its predecessor, however by
mirroring the architectural Greek Revival styles of established courthouses and other prominent
buildings in Tuscaloosa, the building becomes much more significant. The buildings purpose is
easily and immediately understood through its aesthetics in architecture. While it is only a recent
construction, the courthouse s suits its environment and is able to establish its authority as a

Faith, hope, and sensitivity are also crucial elements to the development of a self oriented toward
the ability for adequate nursing care. In what might seem like a departure from the more esoteric
elements of Watson s philosophy of care, the factors Watson crafts include an explicit reliance upon
scientific methodology in decision making. The environment of care is defined by Watson across
several variables, including the domain of mental, spiritual, physical, sociocultural, and emotional.
The importance of attending to human physical needs is also underscored, highlighting the
pragmatic elements of nursing care. Trust and a safely didactic environment are also cited as
elements of Watson s philosophy of care (Taylor and Lillis 2001). The focus of the carative factors
includes a greater spiritual dimension and provides for caring and love to transform the self and
others being cared for (Blais, Hayes, Kozier, Erb, 2006). Friedrich Nietzsche was one of the greatest
writers and psychologist amongst all the philosophers scathing, funny, profound, sad, and yet
ultimately beautiful and inspiring. He had a very astute understanding of human nature, and thus
realized that most humans lived by myths that they believed to be true (very Socratic). His fame

The Generation Of The Technology
The generation of the technology, the delayed life choices, the impatience, the reliance on our
parents, more commonly known as Generation Y or Millennials, is the generation born between
1980 and 2000. Older generations are always finding fault with what we, the Millennials, do or
say or didn t do or didn t say. The world is changing so fast, we can hardly keep up. It is bad
enough we have to push to learn as much as we can and apply the knowledge effectively, let
alone being criticized for every move we make by our elders, who don t really seem to help
matters but complicate them. There are many labels, mostly negative, on my generation. Some
common terms include incompetent, ghetto, lazy, apathetic, tech savvy, procrastinators, and
lacking potential for the world. In some ways these aim to be true, but in other ways they are far
from the truth. I believe that my generation has more potential than we are given credit for. We
are about to graduate, or have recently graduated high school or college, with some not even 18
years old yet. What has always baffled me is that we are expected by adults to know what we
want to do for the rest of our lives before we re even legal adults. Yes, colleges have undecided
majors, but what happens after college when some people still don t know exactly what they
enjoy? Because of this, we are criticized for not having our lives together and delaying life choices
that traditionally signaled adulthood (Evans, 1) as discussed in Boomerang

The Issue Of Legalizing Abortion Essay
Introduction State your Ethical Position on the issue upfront, with its ethical motivation. The
argument surrounding abortion is a very topical issue in our society and dates way back to
ancient days. The issue of legalizing abortion is a growing social concern as all life is sacred
and valued. However, in recent years there have been two ethical arguments by the Supreme
Court in legalizing abortion that of pro life and pro choice. Despite the legal acceptance of
abortion in some countries, the matter remains an ethical concern (Jones Chaloner, 2007). With
this is mind, the writer s position is pro life from a deontological perspective. According to the
Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), deontological emphasizes the relationship between duty and
morality of human actions. The term deontology derives from the Greek deon, duty, and logos,
science. Thus, pro life seek to advocate for the defenseless human being whose life is being
unjustly taken away (Alcorn, 1994). Since all human life begins at conception the act of abortion
can then be seen as murder because it is the act of taking someone s life. Abortion is an
infringement on human life. In retrospect no civil society would allow for someone to take the life
of another; for that reason, abortion must be viewed as morally wrong. Subsequently, the bible
recognizes no crucial difference between the being in the womb and the being after birth. Hence,
from conception and onwards, the individual is a person. Genesis

Finding Yourself for Another in Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton
Many times in people s lives they are faced with big decisions that revolve around two ideas of
success, following the rules and securing their future within their society, or going outside their
comfort zone to purse their dreams. In Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton, Ethan wants to have a
secure future in his town but desires a more intellectual profession and passionate spouse. There is
a sense of stability in having a reliable job, likeability, and a perception by other as well off. In
Ethan Fromethis is expressed: After his father s death it had taken time to get his head above
water, and he did not want Andrew Hale or, anyone else in Starkfeild, to think he was going under
again . (Wharton 40)
Although these features of society are consolatory, it must be realized that first and foremost
should come the discovery of one s self and what will ultimately make them happy. An individual
s career struggles tend to depend on this decision. They must choose between a safe job at a desk
with acceptance by government benefits and local society, or chase their passion without any
support. The decision for security is often to be part of a prestigious company that is praised by
society, or in Ethan s case, a man sticking to his family business in the eyes of a small town.
However this sense of security is often a fabrication. The job presents itself as protected and
reliable, which most people long for, but in that context the security is for the job itself rather than

Generally, the disparity implies inconsistency of the development potentials or rates of certain

The play Fence by August Wilson s has a connection with real world fence. The yard is a small
dirt yard, partially fenced, except for the last scene, with a wooden sawhorse, a pile of lumber,
and other fence building equipment set off to the side. The Opposite is a tree from which hangs a

and sit near the house at right to complete the setting (Wilson 2). He mentions that the fence has

Social Interaction In Human Society
Social interaction is what make up our human society. Through interaction, we socialize with our
family, friends, people in the community to strengthen our relationship with each other. Through
socialization, human society is established and become the foundation for everything inside the
society. Our society is more complex than any society found in nature, but it s not perfect nor
ideal for every member inside the society. Thus, the thought of an ideal society as well as how to
achieve that society is very fascinating among sociologists, whose role is to solve social problems
and develop this theory. Human society is composed of multiple factors: individuals who work
together in the same environment and contribute to the society; cultures which were passed down
by previous generations and become the foundation for the future in spirituals, values, beliefs and
norms; materials that people consume or use to develop society and improve their live (agriculture,
infrastructure...); social organizations and institutions which regulate the behavior of people like
laws, religions, government, religions...to help guide them down the path accepted by the majority.
All these components work together to maintain order, and thrive human society forward,
eventually lead to an ideal society where every individual can have their need fulfills, and most of
the social problems solved. As human society advance forward, so will the structure of the society.
There have been many type of societies

Asian American Self Regulation
Similarly, Iyengar and Lepper (1999) examined the cultural differences on children s self regulation.
They compared European American and Asian American on their self regulation. The participants
could either make their own choices on the features of the task or assigned by their authority figures
or peers. They found that European American were less motivated when they were doing the task
that was assigned by someone else. In contrast, Asian American preferred to the task that was

between European American and Asian American.
Different cultures have different practices of teaching children. These differences cause a
discrepancy in the way of self regulation. Hence, cultural factors may predict children s ability to

The Impact Of Modern Day Vietnam On The Vietnam War
After the Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson was given full authority
to support any Southeast Asian country who was under communist pressure. This authority is what
eventually led to the all out war between the South Vietnamese backed by the U.S. and the
communist forces of North Vietnam known as the People s Liberation Armed Forces of South
Vietnam(Viet Cong). On March 29, 1973, the last U.S. troops were withdrawn from Vietnam, and
soon after in 1975, the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon fell to the hands of North Vietnam.
Modern day Vietnam (Known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) was founded a year after in
1976.
During the Vietnam War, the U.S. was faced with an unfamiliar, grueling environment. The hot,
humid forests and jungles combined with deadly animals like the infamous Two step snake were
radically different compared to the European city warfare experienced in World War II. Because of
this, the country developed new strategies and tactics to accommodate this new environment. The
Viet Cong, the main military force of North Vietnam, however, were in their element, and used
several guerilla tactics to try to overpower the United States. Strategies ranging from spike pits to
surprise attacks at night, were all commonly used. In the end, the U.S. withdrew from Vietnam in
1973 and in 1975, the capital of South Vietnam (The U.S. s allies during the war) was captured by
North Vietnam. Therefore, it is important to know if America s

In the past thirty years, hip hop culture has grown from its respectful beginnings in the South

correlation with Intention to enlist. With respect to Attitude towards military, the four dimensions
such as Evaluation of working Condition and benefits, Self and physical development, Perceived

The departure from childhood is evident by the children fostering the manners and

The Theory Of Scientific Abuse
Scientific Abuse
Darwin, the name widely recognized as the grandfather of evolution, describes evolution as organ,
instinct, or any whole being...arriving at its present state by many graduated steps (Darwin 158).
The struggle for survival forces organisms to evolve gradually and adapt to their environment,
therefore increasing their chances of survival. Darwin furthers his theories into the origins of species
in which he explains how several breeds to which each has attended, are descended from
aboriginally distinct species (Darwin 103). The observation of the animals suggests that they
further originate from a single ancestor. Darwin s points are biological in nature. Other notable

Spencer then points out how the evolved division of labor characterizes an advanced nation and the
more society move towards specialization, the better it is as a whole.
Similarly, Galton talks about the evolution of society as whole, however, he brings up
methodologies in which society can be improved. He states The possibility of improving the race
of a nation depends on the power of increasing the productivity of the best stock (Galton 24). In
simple terms, the level at which society improves is determined by how well the upper class can
reproduce. Galton is, thereby, implying selective parenthood. In theory, as generation continue, the
increase in intellects would result in a more able society.
Adding on to Galton, in the early 20th century, Davenport puts the use of human harvest in his
study of eugenics. He singles out the criminal minded, the feeble minded, the mentally ill, and the
impoverished groups in society. He proposes control by the state of propagation of the mentally
incompetent (Davenport 4). He does, however, qualify that he does not mean control by means of
extermination, but sterilization of the mentally incompetent is not out of reach. Davenport believes
that such characteristics are inheritable ... and they may be combined in any desirable mosaic
suggesting selective breeding of the human population in order to build a better class of humans.

The Gothic genre explores dark and secretive events that challenge the reader themselves and
this is highly shown in the novel Century, written by Sarah Singleton. In this novel the characters

residents in the Deerfield Massacre of 1704. Demos precisely described the Deerfield raid along
with the process of traveling to Canada. Throughout the book, Demos also covered some
individual captive experiences and events. Demos showed the life of Eunice before her life was
changed and how it would be if she was not taken. He stated why the raid was the way it was and
showed the success of it.

The three hundred mile journey to Montreal has begun. As this moment, The Williamses know
they are destined for a march . . . into a strange land, as prisoners (Demos 19). Things began to get
rough as the trail elongated. Out of all the captives, only ninety two captives survived the actual
march to Canada. Many of the captives were killed along the journey. Many were women including
John Williams wife. Before the captives reached Canada, the group split into smaller groups. They
all ended up going in separate destinations. As days and months eventually went by, the Williams
children along with many other remaining captives were eventually dispersed amongst the
numerous participating Indians tribes. Upon coming to New France, the prisoners were sold to the
French, and later exchanged for release by the governors of the English and French colonies.
For John Williams, he was redeemed by the French governor. There would be no hope of his
children being released for a while. Not until Mr. Williams made his way back to New England,
which ended up being almost three years he eventually got the French governor to release all of
his children after a negotiation. Only one was left captive, her name was Eunice. She ended up
staying a captive for many years at the starting age of six years old. The Kahnawake Indian tribe
took her and refused to sell her to the French.

Fruit Fly Trap
How to Make a Fruit Fly Trap
Oh, those pesky fruit flies! They seemingly appear out of nowhere taking up residence in your
kitchen and home. While they re most attracted to ripened fruits and vegetables, they can also be
found breeding in drains, garbage disposals, empty bottles and cans, trash containers and even mops
and cleaning rags. So, what can you do about these nuisance pests before they contaminate your
food with bacteria trap them and eliminate them!
A day in the life of a fruit fly
You can clean your kitchen until it gleams, but until all potential breeding areas are located and
eliminated, fruit flies will spread no matter how much you ve scrubbed. Generally, they lay their
eggs near the surface of fermenting foods and materials. Once they ve hatched, the tiny larvae
continue to feed near the surface of the fermenting mass. What s worse, the reproductive potential
of fruit flies is huge. So, if conditions are right they will lay about 500 eggs. And the entire
lifecycle from egg to adult happens in about one week. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is, finding the source of attraction can be somewhat challenging. The best approach for
eliminating these pests suggests the University of Kentucky, Entomology, is to build a trap and
attract adult flies, where they can be eliminated for good.
Homemade apple cider vinegar trap
First toss out any overripen fruit, and then try this effective remedy to banish fruit flies from your
kitchen. Fruit flies are naturally attracted to fermented foods, and apple cider vinegar is made from
fermented apples. It s a match made in heaven!

Essay about Ancient Athens
Ancient Athens The last Olympic swimmer just touched the wall and the race has ended. Cameras
are replaying every single movement from the race and a winner has been clearly decided. Just as
these Olympic swimmers will gain a medal for placing, ancient Athens had numerous
accomplishments of its own. Athensprosperity ... was due in large part to its stable and effective
government (SOURCE 1). When analyzing the history of ancient Athens, is easy to see how the
accomplishments of a democracy, Greek philosophy, and Greek literature all shape Athens. Athens
is the home of democracy. It is the first known example of where people began to govern
themselves. The democracy of Athens slowly developed around 500 BC, during the Classical...

Solon is the second person to reform the laws of Athens. He began revising laws in the 590s BC
and allowed all men in Athens to take part in the assembly that governed the city and to serve on
the juries that heard trials (SOURCE 1). Along with participation in the assembly, Solon forbade
the practice of debt slavery and set up a fund to buy back Athenian slaves who had been sold
abroad (SOURCE 2). Solon based eligibility for political office on property qualifications, not
birth, permitting those not born of high social status to have the opportunity to hold an office
(SOURCE 2). Through all of these events, society still did not accept the laws and because of
this, more problems arose. During the troubles and chaos, a man by the name of Peisistratus
took advantage of the renewed conflict to seize power (SOURCE 1). Peisistratus is a tyrant
among the Athenians, however, is a popular person. This is because he proceeded to institute
Solon s reforms (SOURCE 2). The men of Athens who participated in the democracy were to
vote in all elections, serve in office if elected, serve on juries, and serve in the military during the
war (SOURCE 1). Cleisthenes, another law reformer, divided Athens into 10 tribes based on
where people lived and made these new tribes...the basis for elections (SOURCE 1). The tribes had

Dependence On The Feed Analysis
I believe that science fiction is definitely providing cautionary tales of our dependence on
technology. We can see examples of this in feed in the way it portrays dependence on technology
in our society. In the future, our Reliance on technology could lead us to a society much like Feed
s . For example in the book feed, everyone is dependent on a technological brain implant called the
Feed . It provides them with access to the internet, social media, communication, and
advertisements. This example in the book represents our dependence on smartphones. Everyone
seems to have one now in our society and it also provides us with communication and the internet.
We can also see in the book that the people s dependence on the feed is making them

Challenger And Columbia Shuttle Disasters Essay
Portfolio Project: The Challenger and Columbia Shuttle Disasters Introduction While driving
frantically through the lush farmland of the Livermore Valley to rescue a 9 year who, along with
her classmates had just witnessed the destruction of the Challenger on live television, the
question of why was all consuming. Growing up in the sixties and witnessing the moon landing
led many to believe NASA was infallible. However, nearly twenty years before Challenger, this
proved untrue, as the dangers of space travel were tragically demonstrated when the crew of the
Apollo 1 died in an onboard fire during a test run (Howell, 2012). Following the Challenger
tragedy, President Reagan (1986, para. 8) stated, We will never forget them, nor the last... Show

While root cause analysis of both sentinel events revealed mechanical and debris problems as
causative factors, the underlying problem was much worse NASA s lax safety oversight and
slipshod management. These findings uncovered what dozens, and likely lucky, successful
missions had hid from the public. The country mourned the first tragedy, but demanded change,
which made the loss of Columbia for similar reasons so stunning. Therefore, much of this paper
concentrated on change resistance, as the inability to change organizations is usually attributed to
the difficulties in changing people. Despite the distractions, leadership must push through this
resistance or risk irrelevance in the marketplace. It is for good reasons, organizations use the
lessons of the Challenger and Columbia disasters in all levels of leadership as a warning of the
potential for harm when budget constraints, tight schedules, and deadlines allow flawed reasoning
and egos to undermine safety and the decision making

Identifying Potential Genres of Viral Videos Essay
Can a medium be a genre? If we casually substitute genre for more general synonyms like
category, class, or group, then the answer is yes, as demonstrated by the information architecture
of online super retailers like Amazon.com. Amazon subdivides its massive inventory first by
medium, like Books or Movies, before incrementally working toward a finer degree of granularity.
Taking books as our example medium, we can navigate by sub genres to find a title in Books
Science Fiction Fantasy Science Fiction Adventure. But this understanding of genre as synonym
largely ignores the more formal identification process performed within the established field of
genre studies. Frow (2005) provides several structural dimensions to use when... Show more content

In the absence of more helpful and readily definable structural dimensions structure of address,
formal features, thematic content that we could find in more traditional literary or film genres, we
are forced to determine whether viral videos constitute a genre by looking at which videos have
gone viral to see what, if anything, they have in common. These common elements are elusive,
however, much to the consternation of those seeking to cash in on this digital phenomenon.
Because of their ability to reach a large audience from a grassroots approach, viral videos are of
particular interest to marketing firms. And yet, a telling sign of why viral videos may not
constitute a genre is the inability of marketing gurus to define a set of must haves for producing
a video that goes viral, gaining popularity on its own apparent volition. This doesn t stop self
proclaimed Internet marketing experts from claiming they know what causes a clip to explode in
popularity, using the language of virality as a metaphor to describe how digital media spread.
Elsewhere, I have criticized this practice in depth, as have scholars like Henry Jenkins (2009) who
argues instead for calling Internet phenomena spreadable media because of the emphasis it places
on human decisions to popularize certain artifacts over others:
This winnowing down of cultural options is the product not

Man s Fate And Woman In The Dunes
Both Man s Fate and Woman in the Dunes exemplify the ideas of existentialism. Existentialism as
existence being absurd with no meaning. In order to deal with life s absurdity, you must invent
your own purpose and individual system of value. In Man s Fate, existentialism is expressed by the
decisions the characters make and the way the characters fulfill their decisions no matter the
consequence. For example, Ch en creates his own meaning of lifethrough joining the revolution to
fight for communism. In the beginning of the novel, Ch en assassinates a man believing it will
bring success to the revolution. He then ties his meaning in the revolution and in life to killing. Ch
en also commits suicide believing he is going to kill Chiang, and

French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman
Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete
achievements which... create a de facto solidarity.
Schuman plan was a proposal by French foreign minister Robert Schuman on May 9, 1950. It was
for the single authority to be able to control the production of steel and coal in France and West
Germany. The plain laid foundations for the 1958 establishment of the European Economic
Community after the proposal were realized in the European Coal and Steel Community. The

Belgium and Luxembourg. The European Union is a union of 28 members stated that are located in

The Maastricht Treaty, which is formally known as the treaty on European Union represented a
major step towards European economic, political and social integration. The main condition of the
treaty was the immediate creation of the European Union and by the late 1990s the establishment
of the Economic and Monetary Union. The Maastricht Treaty is a part of an evolutionary

  • 2. Figurative Language In Under Milk Wood We do not deliberately associate poetry and advertising as related concepts nor do we acknowledge these mediums to be of equal significance. Universally, poetry is identified to be one of the greatest accomplishments of the creative arts, attributable to the complex diction and manipulation of figurative language presented in the nature of these literary works. Conversely, advertising is measured as far from being an independent art it is frequently represented as abundant in deceptive connotations to persuade a specific audience through the use of wheedling subject matter to promote a product or company s commercial image. Despite that, it is advertising which surrounds us today through modern day technology, while the presence of poetry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, this is owing to the fact that the images have already been established by the commercial and therefore, the aesthetics are easier to perceive. This commercial follows a filmic approach, where the quiet, landscape of the city at night is delivered by Richard Burton s ominously articulated radio performance of Dylan Thomas s play, Under Milk Wood and overlapped with a minimalistic and hypnotising tune from the movie Solaris. The application of a poetic transcription and simplistic music flawlessly accentuates the thrilling commercial spot. What makes this advertisement so individual from others of its kind and so incredibly emotive is the use of visual language, in the absence of a concrete script. Empty classrooms, bare roads, the scenes depicting the desolated surroundings would expectantly evoke feelings of negativity. However, the dismal theme and subdued hues meets the expected emotional response in relation to the impression that driving at night is liberating etc. In the graphically prepossessing imagery of vast solitude, there is no apparent narrative; yet the tagline resonates in our minds. This feeling of enlightenment is kindled, similar to poetry, where the aesthetics and representations of specific ideologies involves audiences on an emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every one on this earth, regardless of his profession, hobbies, or religious views, faces these concepts. So, a public policy sets the goals for public administration. The state policy chooses the direction, in which the state develops. Interests of the state determine the direction of its development. An experienced politician should always be a cautious man who knows what will be important for people tomorrow and after five or ten years. This quality will allow him or her to motivate people and to develop the country in needed sectors. In order to avoid a political crisis, the government should not only clearly determine a list of priorities for people, but also represent their current and long term interests. This way, the public policy will be properly developed and will have an accurate strategic line. The government will also manage to control the situation inside the country and become a significant player in the international political arena. Ronald Bailey, the author, indicates Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of growth hormone use offers a treatment plan for those who are short in stature. Bailey also acknowledges bioethics as a seriously debated topic in the medical field . Bioethics deals with the studies of moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research (Caplan). Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money spent on treatment. According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children implies it is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height. At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele 1). If there is no completely accurate way to predict how tall a child will be, then there is no way for anyone to decide and limit which children are getting the injections of ... • 6. Compare And Contrast A Unitary And Human Needs Theory Compare and Contrast: A Unitary and Human Needs Theory Martha Rogers and Virginia Henderson are two theorists who have been very influential in the nursing profession, evidenced in both scholarly and practical settings. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast Rogers unitary theory and Virginia Henderson s human needs theory; including the background and philosophy that influenced these theorist, along with how they defined the meta paradigm concepts of nurse, person, health, and environment, and the usefulness of their ideas to practice. Background, Influences and Philosophical Orientation Martha Rogers was born in Dallas, Texas, 1914 (ANA, 2017). The American Nursing Association recognized that Rogers received her diploma from the Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1936, and the following year received her bachelor of science in Nashville from the George Peabody College (2017). In 1954, she was appointed the professor of nursing at a New York University, where she later developed her science of unitary and irreducible human beings theory through the exploration of philosophical and theoretical studies (ANA, 2017). Roger s influence was her belief in developing an existing body of knowledge that was unique and specific to nursing, and that supported the need for nurses to get a higher education (Wayne, 2014). Socrates was charged with two charges, the first one was impiety and the second one was the corrupting of the youth. Socrates responded to these charges by denying the fact that his wisdom and philosophical activities had caused no harm to the society he lives in. (24 d), and Meletus does not respond at first but then says that the judges and the laws are what shapes the youth to make them better. Socrates defends himself by saying that the only reason they brought him to trial is because they did not like Socrates ignorance and find him irritating. For it would be a great happiness for the young if one alone corrupts them, while the others benefit them. Also, they both care about each other in similar ways. Dally and Johnny are completely different when it comes to the law. Dally is the least law abiding in the gang, where as Johnny is the most. Dally and Johnny are dissimilar as they die. Dally dies a hoodlum, which is vast differencefrom how Johnny dies a hero. Therefor, Dally and Johnny have a lot in common, but also have great differences. Dally and Johnny are similar in a way of knowing what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. His parents do not interact with him and Dally states, my old man don t give a hang whether I m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter (88). Dally s parents do not give him the attention he needs and they neglect him to a world where he has made himself closed off and tough. • 11. The Importance Of Equal Rights In Israel Since the Zionist movement began in the late 19th century, Jews have been treating the Palestinian people as a minority and have been pushing them out of Palestine in an effort to create a Jewish state. In his book Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation , Saree Makdisi, provides a detailed account of how Palestinian people living in Israeland its occupied territories are still unable to enjoy the same rights as Jewish people. He argues that Israel is oppressing the Palestinians and violating international law by restricting their movement, thereby slowly diminishing the Palestinian s presence within Israel. Makdisi believes that the only viable option to ensure Palestinians have the same rights as the Jews is a one state solution, which I am inclined to agree with. The Israeli government has a bureaucratic process in place that oppresses Palestinians. Several different international and human rights organizations have submitted that Israel s way of supporting the Palestinians oftentimes violates international law. Palestinians have an everyday struggle that Jews do not have to contend with, specifically due to Israel s handling of permits, checkpoints, and zones, all of which are intended to break up Palestinian areas from each other (p. 29). As will be discussed in the following paragraphs, Israelis discriminate against Palestinians on a daily basis, grinding down their hope for peace and equal rights. Israel has a prejudiced permit system, which makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Best Practices For Managing Parent Concerns Essay In recent years, it is now customary for professionals who work in higher education to have interesting stories about their interactions with parents. In Lynette S. Merriman s book, Best Practices for Managing Parent Concerns: A Mixed Methods Study of Student Affairs Practice at Doctoral Research Institutions, she uses the 2006 national survey of studentaffairs professionals to discover that 93% of respondents recorded that their interactions with parents had increased in the most recent five years of research (105; ch. 7). Not only have higher educationprofessionals seen increased parental interactions with administrators, but also with students. In 2007, the organization CollegeParents of America surveyed parents and found that 34% of respondents reported that they communicated with their children either daily, or more than once a day ( National Parent Survey ). Increased parental involvement is driving colleges and universities to examine the advantages and disadvantages of having parents as a more significant influence on collegiate processes. The frequency and medium of communication between parents, students, and administrators is a specific interest. I am calling for the Federal Transportation Administration, state, and local governments to invest more in public transportation and spread the awareness of public transportation. Public transportation is beneficial to our communities by providing a solution to traffic and the havoc it causes on our lives. Public transportation can carry way more people per hour at full capacity than the typical single commuter car. Freeways with cars that carry on average 1.2 persons per car in medium traffic (around 30 mph) will only carry 1,080 people per hour. During the scenes depicting the Battle of Actium, Shakespeare s presentation of Octavius Caesar, Mark Antony and Cleopatra cause the balance of audience sympathy to change between the three great leaders. Audience sympathy never lies by any real amount with Caesar, and in Acts III and IV, the audience feels increasingly alienated from him. This is largely due to his calculated, ruthless style of leadership, which becomes more evident during the battle. Caesar judges wisely, and is successful because of this, and by Act III, Scene 7 he has already defeated Toryne В– previously one of Antony s territories. In Act IV, Scenes 5 and 8, Shakespeare presents Antony as a great leader once again, as he defeats Caesar s land army, winning an unexpected victory and causing the audience to venerate him once more, instead of feeling pity for his predicament. However, this triumph is short lived, and in Act IV, Scene 12, Antony s navy surrenders to Caesar without a fight, deserting Antony, leaving him feeling betrayed, and, once again, the audience sympathy shifts even further towards Antony. • 26. The Issue Of Legalizing Abortion Essay Introduction State your Ethical Position on the issue upfront, with its ethical motivation. The argument surrounding abortion is a very topical issue in our society and dates way back to ancient days. The issue of legalizing abortion is a growing social concern as all life is sacred and valued. However, in recent years there have been two ethical arguments by the Supreme Court in legalizing abortion that of pro life and pro choice. Despite the legal acceptance of abortion in some countries, the matter remains an ethical concern (Jones Chaloner, 2007). With this is mind, the writer s position is pro life from a deontological perspective. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), deontological emphasizes the relationship between duty and morality of human actions. The term deontology derives from the Greek deon, duty, and logos, science. Thus, pro life seek to advocate for the defenseless human being whose life is being unjustly taken away (Alcorn, 1994). Since all human life begins at conception the act of abortion can then be seen as murder because it is the act of taking someone s life. Abortion is an infringement on human life. In retrospect no civil society would allow for someone to take the life of another; for that reason, abortion must be viewed as morally wrong. Subsequently, the bible recognizes no crucial difference between the being in the womb and the being after birth. Hence, from conception and onwards, the individual is a person. Genesis ... On March 29, 1973, the last U.S. troops were withdrawn from Vietnam, and soon after in 1975, the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon fell to the hands of North Vietnam. Challenger And Columbia Shuttle Disasters Essay Portfolio Project: The Challenger and Columbia Shuttle Disasters Introduction While driving frantically through the lush farmland of the Livermore Valley to rescue a 9 year who, along with her classmates had just witnessed the destruction of the Challenger on live television, the question of why was all consuming. Growing up in the sixties and witnessing the moon landing led many to believe NASA was infallible. However, nearly twenty years before Challenger, this proved untrue, as the dangers of space travel were tragically demonstrated when the crew of the Apollo 1 died in an onboard fire during a test run (Howell, 2012). Following the Challenger tragedy, President Reagan (1986, para. 8) stated, We will never forget them, nor the last... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The country mourned the first tragedy, but demanded change, which made the loss of Columbia for similar reasons so stunning. Therefore, much of this paper concentrated on change resistance, as the inability to change organizations is usually attributed to the difficulties in changing people. Despite the distractions, leadership must push through this resistance or risk irrelevance in the marketplace. It is for good reasons, organizations use the lessons of the Challenger and Columbia disasters in all levels of leadership as a warning of the potential for harm when budget constraints, tight schedules, and deadlines allow flawed reasoning and egos to undermine safety and the decision making ... If we casually substitute genre for more general synonyms like category, class, or group, then the answer is yes, as demonstrated by the information architecture of online super retailers like Amazon.com. Amazon subdivides its massive inventory first by medium, like Books or Movies, before incrementally working toward a finer degree of granularity. Taking books as our example medium, we can navigate by sub genres to find a title in Books Science Fiction Fantasy Science Fiction Adventure. But this understanding of genre as synonym largely ignores the more formal identification process performed within the established field of genre studies. Frow (2005) provides several structural dimensions to use when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the absence of more helpful and readily definable structural dimensions structure of address, formal features, thematic content that we could find in more traditional literary or film genres, we are forced to determine whether viral videos constitute a genre by looking at which videos have gone viral to see what, if anything, they have in common. These common elements are elusive, however, much to the consternation of those seeking to cash in on this digital phenomenon. Because of their ability to reach a large audience from a grassroots approach, viral videos are of particular interest to marketing firms. And yet, a telling sign of why viral videos may not constitute a genre is the inability of marketing gurus to define a set of must haves for producing a video that goes viral, gaining popularity on its own apparent volition. This doesn t stop self proclaimed Internet marketing experts from claiming they know what causes a clip to explode in popularity, using the language of virality as a metaphor to describe how digital media spread. Elsewhere, I have criticized this practice in depth, as have scholars like Henry Jenkins (2009) who argues instead for calling Internet phenomena spreadable media because of the emphasis it places on human decisions to popularize certain artifacts over others: This winnowing down of cultural options is the product not ...
